You can tell Brother Baron is young in his teaching career. He is a VERY intelligent person, which I feel is the reason he gets frustrated with people asking redundant questions. The class mini-projects are graded by his TAs and they usually do not grade them correctly so if you think you've earned a higher grade than what you got, contest it.
His grading criteria is unclear. He releases the rubric after assignments are graded. He will dock 15% of your test score if you don't show up to the class period following the test. He somewhat knows the subject but not how to teach it. When asked a specific question, he will simply respond by telling you to look it up on the internet.
Please don't take his courses or classes! He claims to be so chill, but in reality he's extreme and doesn't have mercy when it comes to anything! Your camera has to always be on, you can't ever use your phone, he so extreme about following every rule perfectly! Don't even began to start eating!! Everything locked and super weird explaining things.
Dropped this class on day 1. You MUST do the assignments to then be allowed to participate in class. 85% of this class will be spent with your group. You can't contact him until you've exhausted ALL other resources. Im sure he is great in his field of expertise but the bar he sets for students (some of which are new to excel) is ridiculously high.
I asked him a question because I didn't understand how he got the answer and if he would help explain it. He told me "it was possible and to try again" then moved on to "answer" someone else's question. He never knows the answer and has to look it up with the answer key, and then tells you to do it a completely different. NOT HELPFUL "CHIEF"
I had nothing against Brother Baron as a person. He was alright, but he just wasn't a very good teacher. The prep-assignments were not that difficult, but the Mini-Projects and the Exams were unnecessarily hard. The instructions for the Mini-Projects were very vague. If you have to take this class, I wouldn't do it online or with Brother Baron.
In my experience with this professor he was a horrible teacher who did not care about his students or the class he is even teaching. The class itself is extremely hard and he doesn't help at all or even seem to understand what he is even teaching. It is very easy to get left behind in this class. Would never recommend
Brother Barron is great and a master of Excel. He spends time helping out with any questions. Because of course restrictions, he can't give you answers directly, but he tries to help you find solutions to help you succeed. Since I am about to graduate, he shared his job experience with us, and gets us thinking about ours, I found very helpful.
Brother Baron is an excellent teacher and expects you to do your best. At times he may come off very stern, but it is because those subjects/policies are important to learn or follow. He is very knowledgeable about excel and is an excellent instructor. Be prepared to develop your excel know how.
Eric Baron was a fantastic professor, and you could tell that get cared for his students. He gives great advice for school and life in class, and I would highly recommend taking him as a teacher in any class he teaches.
What I liked the most about the professor is his passion for the course he is teaching; that inspired me to become more interested. Excel is now my new passion thanks to this professor.
Follow instructions EXACTLY. Any instructions not followed will result in a loss of points
Brother Baron is a great instructor and I am very glad I took this course from him! He motivates you to do your best with trying to solve the problem but is very helpful when you need guidance! He spends time getting to know his students and he is very kind! Not a harsh grader! My advice is to take this course with him! You won't regret it!
Brother Baron is a great Professor. It take time to know him but he is great. He will help you with if you call on him for help. He
I really enjoyed taking Brother Baron's BA 215 class. Brother Baron does a very good job at demonstrating the usefulness of excel and teaching how to research questions via the internet about excel. I really liked Brother Baron's career skills section of the course and thought his lectures on his own personal career were very helpful.
It is critical not to get behind on assignments- they build up and not completing one, means you cannot complete the next. Bro Baron is available for help outside of classroom hours. Ask for more time because you are stuck, he can point you in the right direction and grant more time (within reason). Google is your friend in this class.
Brother Baron is honestly one of my favorite professors I have had at BYUI. He is very chill and he's pretty funny without even trying. The course itself is hard, there is nothing to blame on Bro. Baron. He is willing to help but he also wants you to try your best. He cares for his student's success in class and in their future careers.
The course has strict guidelines emphasized to students at the beginning of the semester. Brother Baron is super knowledgable, enthusiastic, and inspiring. Some Excel background will help, but you will likely rely more on your group and the internet for help. He is receptive to student's needs and sometimes extended deadlines for difficult projects
Brother Baron is the best! This class was super helpful, the work in this class is doable and straight forward. The "projects" you do in class are meant to be challenging. Even though this is the case you get help from your team mates and the proffesor. Truly such a great class! Learned so much and feel so much more ready to work in a real job
I really enjoyed this class. I learned a lot and feel I have a better tool belt in Excel. Brother Barron knows this topic well and does a good job relating it to future careers and real-life experiences. He also does a great job of including spiritual discussions in his class. Overall I really enjoyed learning from him!
He is a good professor that always gives you second opportunities. He knows a lot of excel. He is always willing to meet with you after class or anytime and help you.
Brother Baron knows how to connect with you and find ways to make the learning experience more personalized. He cares about your professional and personal development and will constantly push you to achieve your potential. He is super smart and knows by experience what he teaches. Great professor. Totally recommend.
Brother Baron knows excel in and out. He is very passionate about helping students prepare to enter the workforce with skills. He responds to emails very quickly. He's happy to meet and answer course-specific and career questions while also encouraging you to learn on your own.
I made sure I am taking him for 315. He helped us master excel and basic coding. I used what I learned outside of class more than any other business class. He also focuses a lot on our future careers more than any professor I have ever had. His perfect blend of teaching and inviting us to learn was vital. He passed on his passion for data.
The class is very centered around group projects and most of it can be done in class time. There is a bit of prep work that takes 20 - 30 mins to complete and 5 exams that aren't very difficult they just take a small time sink. IF you do the work there's nothing that will catch you by surprise. You Learn excel very well. Highly recommend.
Dude was solid. I would probably hang out with him outside of class. He knows the material well and has real life experience with it all. He is a little cocky and also wastes too much time at the start of class, but I like him a lot, and would def take him again.
Great professor! I would take him again. His teaching style is unique because he pushes you to think intuitively. He's got a good sense of humor! He gave our class a lot of great real-world advice. I didn't know anything about excel before the class and now I am proficient! The class period is mandatory if you want a good grade. Take him!
He is a great professor, He gets to know his students by name, and he always tells you relevant information. Professor Baron does a great job of telling you about his work experience and lets you know what skills that are covered in the class will be useful in the work force. He is extremely passionate about his subject matter Highly Recommended
Brother Baron cares 110% for the students and their future. He very career oriented, like a professor should be. Isn't afraid to talk about uncomfortable topics that makes us better. Respect him and he will respect you, visa versa. Great professor overall!
Brother Baron is just a sweet guy overall and truly shows that he cares about your success in learning the material. One of the better teachers I have had
Bro. Baron is incredible. He cares about the success of each student. If you are willing to work hard then you will be very successful in this class. Participate and get to know him and you will have a great semester and learn a ton. Such a great class and such a great teacher!!!
Brother Baron is a ship-wreck. He walked out of our class (wish a student could do that) due to us not asking enough clarifying questions. He doesn't really teach, you just learn from videos made by another teacher. He has no empathy for students and if you miss class you can't do the assignment. He is also the cockiest teacher I have ever met.
He is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff, however he is really quick and doesn't slow down enough for the slow or visual learners. In my opinion he's a good teacher for excel smart and quick learners, but it's almost intimidating to ask him questions and get straight answers.
Brother Baron is awesome and has a very buoyant personality with a bit of dry humor. I had him for both BA 215 and BA 315 and I learned much more than in other classes I've had with similar topics. His classes are one of the few classes where I feel I can say what I think and fully participate because of the easygoing atmosphere that is created.
He is a super knowledgeable person. Outside of this class, he is a valuable resource both for in-class and professional applications. He is enthusiastic about excel and business topics. It is easy to keep up with his class as long as you dedicate an hour or two a week to it. Keep skinning your cats or dicing your pineapples
I would argue that brother Baron is the best teacher at Brigham Young University. Great class structure and organization. The only frustrating thing is the students who clearly don't do their homework ask Brother Baron to explain everything that was already in the homework videos. If anything this class is too slow. No cap, this class slaps.
Brother Baron has been my favorite teacher in all of my college experience. He has the ability to make a course on the seemingly monotonous topic of Excel enjoyable and positive. He is very knowledgeable in topics of business and Excel but not at all afraid of admitting he's wrong or unsure of the answer to a question. Baron is a man of the people.
Bro Baron is a G. The class is time consuming, but tbh I think it's cause you're actually learning something valuable as opposed to a lot of business classes where its easy to put minimal effort. Brother Baron is relatable to students, and super experienced with Excel. 10/10 Professor. He's also an author so ask him about his books.
Brother Baron is Epic! I was not expecting an excel course to be both interesting and enjoyable but Brother Baron has somehow found a way
He is very knowledgeable and you can learn a lot from him. My criticism would be that he is more focused on teaching than actually understanding and helping his students. He is very fast and hard to understand, and he is open to meeting outside class but offers little help because he is always in a hurry. His very very energetic and hard to keep up
Baron wants you to ask questions at the beginning of class but he didn't answer them in a way I understood and made my question feel invalid. He walked out of class when we didn't have questions. He's strict so don't miss class because you can't do the assignment. Don't take it from him if you are a slower learner. He won't slow down.
bro failed me when he said he would pass me, attendance is required but he wont tell you that, I had a 90 in the class and he failed me bc i had either missed/ was tardy a few times despite me doing the required work. he is also extremely rude and uncaring. I hope you do not mind being criticized in front of the entire class as well. awful teacher.
This is the worst class you'll take. If you can do any other class do it. Bro Baron is ok. Hate asking him questions. Makes you feel dumb and like you should already know it. No tutoring allowed which is stupid. Need to know excel before hand. This class stressed me out bad. They teach you basics and throw you into super hard stuff right after.
Don't listen to the haters, he's a real one. only counts me tardy when I deserve it!
Brother Baron is awesome. He will happily answer any questions you have about excel and works hard to make sure students become excel masters. He also does an amazing job bringing the spirit to every class.
B215 was definitely one of my harder classes but I learned the most in this class. As long as you work well with your group and go back to all the prep videos for guidance you will do very well in this class. When exams come around don't do what I did and wait until the last min to finish them slowly chip away at the exam before its due.
This class isn't to hard if you have any if all at excel experience. Make sure to use you group when finishing the MP, you can still search the web for your questions for exams. BEST PROFESSOR FOSHO!!!
Good guy. Cares about his students and his class. Made me excited about SQL.
Brother Baron is 100% a great professor. His teaching style is very easy to understand and he is great at responding to emails when you are confused. He does grade a bit heavier on quizzes and tests but he is very helpful when you have questions. Lots of group work which gives opportunities to bounce ideas off of classmates.
From a childhood we know that SQL can be a difficult topic for some people, but Brother Baron teaches in an easy-to-understand manner. You may wish for some of the assignments to be optional, but I found that the assignments will help with real-world scenarios and I found the class worth it if you put in the time.
Bro Baron is a great professor. The only issue I had was that he goes too fast for me. If you are a slow learner, then he might be too fast. Make sure to ask questions.Overall, I think that this is a very important class for BA majors. It is structured in a way that you can solve real-world questions for analysts by the end of the semester.
Brother Baron loves his job--and is good at it. I learned so much from this class in a short amount of time that will have real world applicability. I don't think I've ever had a professor that has listened and accepted feedback more than Brother Baron. Be prepared to put in effort and do all the assignments he requires, they will only benefit you.
I would definitely recommend taking a class from Bro Baron! He is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and accessible (I've also never laughed that hard in a class). There wasn't a single thing taught in this class that wasn't useful/relevant. I went from having 0 coding experience to feeling confident with SQL and even liking it! Take this course.
Brother Baron is an outstanding professor! His commitment to helping students succeed in class is truly impressive. I believe this course is essential for all business majors, and I've gained valuable insights not only from my professor but also from my classmates. I had a really fun semester; I would definitely recommend it!
Bro Baron is very knowledgeable, and most of the time you might feel he's going really fast. Get prepared for the quizzes, those are tricky cause he's not looking for the right answer, but the "most correct answer". Some homework, quizzes, and projects are optional, so make sure you ask him if it's optional.
It is very clear that Brother Baron wants to be a religion professor. He spends about the same amount of time on the spiritual thought and/or life lesson at the beginning of class as he would spend actually teaching material. We have to watch videos that actually teach the content in class, and class is just an application. He's really cool though.
Great class, very useful. Brother Baron was a great professor, if you put in the work an A is achievable.
I loved this class. lots of group work, and spiritual thoughts are very long. Brother Baron teaches you to be self sufficient in excel, but cares about your success.
Incredible person to work with. He is a spiritual legend, always starting class with very good and personal spiritual thoughts, and he is a reasonable professor who is very caring for his students. He is very smart with excel, and is willingly to help his students always. Loved it, one of the best classes I've ever taken.
Brother Baron does a really good job at helping students learn to apply the materials on their own. He is always willing to help but he doesn't just give you the answer.
Always ask how to specifically get a good grade in the class as the hardest thing was figuring out what was needed from analyses.
Bro will dock you 2% of your final grade for every class you miss. Homie strict, and makes NO EXCEPTIONS. Never learned more from a class though.
He is a cool guy but classes are completely pointless. He breaks you into groups to do the "Mini-Projects" then when you have questions he pretends to answer it without answering it. Doesn't teach you a thing about excel unless everyone is confused about the same thing or if its convenient for him. Some spiritual thoughts he shares are too much imo
TBH run. Literally take anyone else. I got docked two percentage points for walking in a minute late. One minute. Yells at you for being on your phone when he's talking about pointless things. Never fully answers questions. Very self righteous. So many double standards. He should teach high school if he wants to force people to listen to him.
This course was designed by another professor, so there are some small organizational issues with content and homework that make several projects more difficult than needed. Bro. Baron is super knowledgeable about the material, and I definitely came away from this class with applicable skills which is way better than most college classes can claim.
He's good, but didn't like the occasional cold calling in class and I thought he graded a little harsh
Really great teacher! Encourages involvement within the course and does a great job leading discussions.
Compared to other BA315 sections: Pros: Builds stronger skills; no Tableau required. Cons: Harder, no Tableau taught, basketball project is not useful for business majors. Feedback on Bro. Baron: Limited office hours and reliance on self-learning with ChatGPT have pros and cons.
This was probably one of the worst classes I have taken. He will not help you out when you have questions and the only thing that that he will tell you when you ask for help is, "did you ask chatgpt?" He is extremely self righteous and acts like he is the king of the classroom. He does not like to help with the work and does not repsond to emails.
Brother Baron is truly a good guy, however his teaching style hindered my learning. He requires you to shut your laptop and constantly talks about off-topic or irrelevant things. If you are a go-getter or naturally have common sense, going to class is a waste of time, but mandatory.
BA 315 is a challenging class, but Brother Baron makes it manageable. He gives valuable feedback and avoids busywork. If you take his class, be sure to stay on top of the material. He doesn't allow late work.
Learned alot from his class. I really don't understand his strict attendance requirements. It seems to me that he could have been alot more effecient with how he teaches so that students don't have to spend so much time there. Not good or patient about answering questions but has some really funny stories.
Unless he changed the way he teaches this class, it's very difficult. Attendance is mandatory and he has a crazy attendance policy for missing more than 2 classes. I missed 3 and it took my letter grade down from B- to C+. At class, he doesn't even teach you anything. He just asks about the prep assignment and then you work in your group.
Brother Baron is a good guy but I went into the class expecting to learn about analyzing business but it turned out more to be a coding class. I had never heard of Power BI or Dax and he just kind of expects you to pick it up so easily. he lets you use Chat GPT all semester to help you learn Dax then last minute takes it away for an exam.
Brother Baron is a good guy, and he grades pretty leniently. I wish he focused on using Power BI to create dashboards/reports. Instead you use PowerBI to create presentations and things that would be easier in excel. His instructions were never clear and I didn't feel prepared for any of the upcoming projects. He has a loud, but he makes you laugh!
This professor gives clear instructions and really tries to make sure you understand the grading criteria. That being said, it was still one of the hardest courses I have ever taken, so be prepared. I do feel like preparation for using Power BI could be improved instead of just jumping right in, but that is a course issue, not a professor issue.
This professor gives clear instructions and really tries to make sure you understand the grading criteria. That being said, it was still the hardest class I have ever taken. There should be more focus on what Power BI is in the beginning, rather than just jumping right in. Overall, the class is hard but the professor is good.
Brother Baron is a super fun and intelectual guy. There are a few cons with the class and its structure. Instructions for assignments are never super clear, so always ask if you are confused.I just wish we prepped a little better for the DAX (The coding behind the formulas) because I still have no idea how to do any of it with out ChatGPT.
Brother Baron is a tough grader with attitude issues and is egoistic. His lectures drag on for 30–40 minutes about the Gospel and unrelated topics. Group mini projects can't be finished in class, forcing extra work. He gives confusing directions, and graders mark you down for following them. This leads you to suffering, low-grade & frustration
The course design has its flaws, but Brother Baron makes it even harder with his improvisations and constant diversions. Be prepared to feel helpless, as you won't have anyone to turn to for help. Mini projects become useless; he tends to deviate from the main topics, which can make you feel uncomfortable. Be ready for a frustrating experience.
His class feels a lot harder than it should be. He grades tough, gives unclear instructions, & often goes off on long, unrelated tangents that eat up class time. You rarely feel supported. Ask him about re-grading - you will be insulted & given bad grades for every assignment for the rest of the class. I strongly don't recommend him for any class.
His class ends up feeling much harder than it needs to be. Grading is harsh, instructions are unclear, and he often drifts into long, unrelated tangents that waste class time. Support feels limited, & asking for regrades can backfire. The overall experience leaves most students struggling more than expected daily. Highly not recommended. Avoid him.
Amazing! Truly one of the best professors! So many good conversations and insights! A must take professor!
This is literally my favorite professor! Best spiritual thoughts and best teaching style in all of BYU-Idaho. Super hilarious and down to earth as can be! He seeks improvement and wants the best for every student. The only students who have a hard time are those who suck at deadlines and being responsible; It's the student who will never get a job.
