very interesting lectures
He is a terrific, and fun instructor.

The only way to pass this class is to attend every single FOUR HOUR class. Two hours of old, boring movies and then two hours of lecture every week. After the movie, it is hard to stay for the indepth analysis of the ****.
I took the night class and it was horrible. There isn't a lot of room for individual thought... he mostly tests you on 'his' impression of the movie. Avoid if possible.
He forced us to watch A.I.: Artificial Intelligence and for that I will never forgive him.
The was the most biased film class I have ever experienced. If your impressions differ from his, you will be humiliated if you voice them! My advice--just sit through it like a zombie, stare at his white sock/black shoe combo and be content with a C!
He dropped the F-BOMB a few times; For that I give him props. Otherwise, he sucked, and his tests were STUPID HARD.
His class mostly bored me....
His lectures were very interesting, that's the only reason I actually gave him second worst. Then he gives you these tests and makes them really hard. It's a freaking film class not psychology he has no right trying to make his students feel stupid.
I found his film class to be one of the most interesting and engaging classes I have taken at USI. The films were great, and his discussion skills are excellent.
He dresses like he's from Miami Vice. Boring and stupid. Talks the ENTIRE 2 hour lecture about the very boring movie. Avoid if possible, especially the night class.
You guys are crazy. I took the night class and loved it every night, except the first one. I missed maybe 8 points all semester. It's the easiest A I've ever had. And he made me laugh. The clothes were bad, yes, but humorously so.
The movies are alright and the explanations are pretty interesting. Be prepared to have some loser "movie buffs" who participate all the time and think they know everything.
This class is just plain dumb. Braysmith's watered-down opinions and lack of original thought left me wanting my $233 back for the class. He finds most of his film opinions online and then shares them with you on an over-rated test, designed to fail.
Very cool guy. Knows hist stuff. The tests were stinking easy. As for boring, not at all. Take this class, you will never watch movies the same way again! You owe it to yourself!

Holds you until the end or longer the first 8 weeks. Night class was enjoyable bc of the movies, lectures are boring, unless you like having things repeated 4 & 5 times. Dresses funky, cusses a lot & is set in his opinion.

This class is extremley boring! You watch a movie for 2 hours and then notes 2 hours. He never lets you out early! He gives you these notes and says that if you take notes you will do good on the tests-YA RIGHT.Have fun with the wanna be movie buffs. Boring
this class is so easy... all you have to do is show up for the lecture day and take notes...what other class can you get an A for watching movies?
I thought his class was very easy. He is very carefree.
Braysmith is a great teacher. His test are easy and all you have to do is show up and take notes. If you belong in college at all you should get an A.
I HOPE YOU LIKE HIS OPINION ON A MOVIE, BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY ONE YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR!!!
He puts some notes on the chalk board, but mostly you need to write what he says. You need to be there for every class because you watch a movie the first half and take notes the second half.
I loved this class and I thought it was very easy. As long as you go to every class and take down notes not only one what he writes on the board but also what he says you will be fine. Pay attention to things he repeats because those will be on the test.
Hey was a funny teacher. Made a lot of jokes. Easy class as long as you showed for it. Don't think you are going to pass if you don't show up. A lot of people don't take the class seriously!
Fun class and good professor depending on the movies you are watching that semester. He's interesting, but get ready to watch some terrible silent films and really strange foreign films.
BEST CLASS EVER! You watch cool movies and learn all about the little things that go into making movies. You can just go on Tuesday and watch cool movies and not actually take the class. It is open to the public and is recomened if you have time from 1-4 on Tuesdays.
Anyone who found Braysmith's tests hard doesnt need to be going to school. i literally studied for 5-10 minutes before every test, had 5 pages of notes for the entire semester, and got an A in his class. all you have to do is listen in his class.
Easy class if you go and take your notes. The movies are okay.
I liked him so much i took his film class also. awsome guy. lots of fun. has a lot of useful information
It's a fun class especially if you like to watch movies.
I enjoyed this class a great deal. There isn't any outside work, aside from studying for the tests, so it's easy in that regard. His tests are easy if you listen to the instructions he gives on how to take them. He is pretty opinionated, but it makes the students think about what's going on.
You usually watch a few good films the first 3-4 weeks then he gets the crappy ones out. find a friend to sit by and make sure you take notes. and as everyone else has noted, have a good time laughing at all the wanna-be tarentinos there. they flock to him like groupies.

This class was super easy... All I ever had to do was show up, watch a movie and then just listen to the lecture!
hes the best professor i think I've had IN AN ART CLASS. he was extremely helpful, etc.
I thought the class was fairly simple. I can count on one hand the number of times I stayed after the movie was over and I still got a B+.
On his tests he puts question like: "C. Answers A and B, D. All of them, E. None of them" which are completely retarded. The logic of it is mesmerizing because the correct answer will be D, which is counterintuitive because E says "none of them" which would mean A, B, C, and D are all inherantly false. I brought this to his attention and he became confused and abrasive. He gave me a C because I made him look like an idiot. -matt
I loved this class. For those who say the movies are boring, the movies were extraordinary. Whether or not you enjoyed the plot of the movie is irrelevant. You were to see the beauty of film, not walk out and be like omg what an awesome story. I really enjoyed the discussion after movies and it made you think about what you had just viewed. I now have a completely different view on movies and what makes them good. He did an awesome job explaining everything you would need for the tests. GREAT CLASS!!!

If you don't pass this class then you never even showed up. If you get bellow a C you watched the movies and never came to lectures. If you got a b or a C you listened cme to lectures and probably took notes, but zoned out somewhere... If you got an A you obviously were'nt there to check outt he women like I was... Is it me or does he look like Freddy Mercury?
He tried to be funny the entire time but just got really annoying. This was a very easy class but I dreaded going to it EVERY time. He stretches the class out to be longer than needed by giving a fifteen min break when there is only 35 min left. If you want to boost your gpa then take this class but it will suck.
Easy class, but i never wanted to go, the night class is 4 hours long. There is a period of time where you watch really bad movies. The tests aren't too bad, but u have to be there for the letcure.
Great class!! Don't cut out early!
Easy A...just make sure you suffer through the entire boring ass lecture.
I got a B in the class and I skipped 2 of the movies and most of the lectures, this is a common sense class.
he was the worst teacher ever! he was so disorganized with his notes!! he always thought he was funny and he wasn't and is always laughing at his own jokes that wernt even funny! and he took all these stupid breaks and randomly went off subject just to kill time i think! it was so boring and so long
He is sort of an ass but nice at the same time. This is a good class, I really learned a lot. Some of the movies are really dreadful to watch.
the tests can be kinda tricky, but not a bad class
i loved this class! i did horrible on the quizzes and okay on the tests but i got a B. i just think he's awesome and knows his stuff. i learned a lot and it's nothing i'll ever use but it was really interesting. plus you get to watch movies. the lectures are long but they aren't bad. ALWAYS STAY AFTER THE BREAK! its the most important.
Good teacher, teaching a fun class. What's better than a class based on watching movies? It's easy, a few quizzes and tests over the movies you watch. You won't get a chance to take many classes like this, so don't miss out.
The class is good......and its a shame he is teaching it. Its not that you don't learn from him you do, and the films are not that bad. But he is a jerk! There is no way to get over that if you actualy have a conversation with him.............Good Class, BAD Professor
GRRRRREAT
This class is pretty interesting. As long as you pay attention when he gives notes you'll be fine. I wouldn't say it is an easy A but some of the movies you watch are pretty cool. He does skip around on his notes alot so be prepared.
Great teacher! He is extremely knowledgeable about films. He has a great sense of humor. Makes you understand movies in a way you never have before. Seriously, you watch a movie every week. Take this class, it's really fun.
The class was fun, notes are important. there was 2 ten questions quizes and three 50 question test. Overall not a hard class, listen and take some notes and youll be fine
He is a very exciting and open person. I didnt take interest in the class and skipped came out with a c+. watch the movies and listen to lectures ull do well.
Really easy class. Just show up, attend lectures, don't cut out early. Take some notes!
The tests sucked and were hard to study for!! He was interesting though.
he rocked!!! you have to go to class and he will make it worth while.
really interesting class, really need to go and write good notes, his quizzes are easy but you have to study for the exams, not a hard class.
this class should of been easy, but because his tests are difficult, the class was not so easy afterall!
Even if you attend every class and take thuro notes, there is no guarantee that material will be on the test. Good movies, but the tests were hard. He also has a very wierd sense of humor.
Film 285 is not that hard. If you take this class you have to watch the movie and go to the lectures. The night session is killer, but sticking around for the entire lecture is a must. Cell phones and talking are dscouraged greatly, but it is also very distracting when watching the movie. You have to study your notes to do well on tests.
ya i was told during freshman orientation by an advisor that the class would be cake...he was wrong. i went to every class. took notes. studied for all the test. and failed as a freshman. he was extremely hard to approach and was useless for help. i will do anything except have him as a professor. the questions on the test set you up for failure.
I expected this class would be any easy A. I was def. wrong. The questions on his tests are worded weird and make no sense. His notes are all over the place which makes it hard to study and follow during lectures. The only thing i liked about this class was watching him trip up the stairs everyday or laugh at his own jokes.
Notes made absolutely no sense. His tests were even worse. The way the questions were worded made it confusing. Movies were good for the most part, but I dreaded going to the lecture part. If you go to every class and take notes you should get a decent grade.
He is a JERK! But, he will tell you that right off the bat. He doesn't bs with you and tells you the rules at the get go. I enjoyed this class! The test are worded weird, but to get around that is:stay for all of lecture (or actually show up for lecture) and watch the WHOLE movie. He will call you out if you make him mad!
Not a bad class...just didn't like him as a teacher. He expects you to know everything he knows about movies. You can't even read the notes he writes on the bored, he covers it up with circles and lines. The questions on the tests have nothing to do with what he teaches.
Best class ever
He is a Jerk and doesnt care to be! I pay money to learn not to be disrespected! Class so far is ok as long as you can put up with him being a smart ass! He hasnt even said anything to me, but I dont respect how he talks to others! Just an ok class so far!
This class is just plain ridiculous. None of the notes that he gives the class are on the tests, as far as lecture.. his clarity is terrible, and it is actually kind of hard. He expects you to know stupid, pointless information from the movies and tests you over it. I would NOT recommend this class, unless you want to drag you G.P.A down.
If you appreciate films and what they are about then you'll love this class. He is extremely knowledgable about film history aswell. An interesting class. WATCH THE MOVIES and come to class....that simple. I enjoyed practically every movie shown in this class. Excellent straight forward, tell it like it is professor.
amazing teacher..i only wish that i could take more classes with him..i have never met anyone who was as passionate about thier job than he his...i learned a lot more than i could have imagined..and now want to change my major because of his class...highly recommend!!!
He is a great teacher. He makes this class so interesting. If you come to class, watch even the boring movies, and take good notes you will have an A for sure. And he gives extra credit opportunities too. I would recommend him to anyone!
Awesome teacher! Would definitely take him again if given the choice. Some movies incredibly boring, but he is a lively person and makes coming to class worth your while. He can be a bit of a smartelic and if you are doing something in his class against the rules, he will let you know. I like that about him.
its a long class and you wont want to go at all. but to get a good grade you pretty much have to. the tests are not that easy. for the final just study the test you got back and you will do fine. movies are pretty terrible for the most part
very opionated, comes off rude at first and sometimes goes too into detail. i dreaded going to this class each tuesday night and sitting through it for four hours, but i did end up learning quite a bit. his tests are very detailed take good notes and be in class when he goes over past test and quizzes so you can get the right answers for final.
Terrible teacher. This fella makes students feel like morons when they may honestly be trying or have legit questions. I've never dreaded attending any class more than his.
terrible class and professor. what a joke..good way to drag your GPA down over a stupid class that he makes more difficult. don't take this guy.
don't take this class. he is ridiculous, rude, and this class will drag your gpa down. don't take his class
This class is way too difficult for being a core class that is FILM....He makes it difficult because he knows what a joke the curriculum is. He will ask pointless questions on the exam & just makes the class hard on you. Don't take this class.
This class is just horrible. I agree w/the comments below. He is rude & I never really knew what the exam/quiz would be over bc he is so unclear. His tests were way hard considering they were over movies. I would not take this class. I was very disappointed to say the least.
Worst class I've ever taken. I had a horrendous experience with this guy because he is so ridiculous with grading. I got a C & studied my butt off when I needed to pay more attn. to other important classes. What a waste of money & time. Learned nothing, and it was hard as heck. TERRIBLE!!!!!
I dont know what these people are talking about, he is a great teacher. Tests come straight from the notes.. if you take notes that is. He is "mean" only when students call films "stupid". Gives reasons why! He offers extra credit but I did none and still got an A. I learned so much about film and it's history. I have a new found respect for films.
horrible class. take theatre for the art requirement. he makes you watch silent and foreign films which are a joke. and i agree that his tests are out of no where. he gives like 6 choices for an answer on his test. kinda ridiculous if you ask me.
He is an intresting professor, but you watch some films that are completely boring :( his quizzes and exams arent hard but there are alot of "none of the above," "all of the above" questions. it can be tricky sometimes, but the class is generally easy. get someone's old material from the class. this will help.
RUN AWAY...NOT INTERESTING AT ALL AND HE MAKES A CLASS THAT SHOULD BE SIMPLE WAAAAYYYYY TOOOOO HARD! TAKE THEATRE!
He's not that bad, It is just hard to keep interest in a film class period. You can tell he loves what he does and he is very passionate about film. Yes, his notes are a little confusing and all over the place, but as long as you pay attention you'll do fine!
I thought he was halarious but in a cruel way. Don't have your cell phones on trust me he makes you look dumb. people thought he was hard I thought it was an easy class didnt study till the night before...people who struggled were just lazy and never came to class. come to class ull do well...i never missed a class and i got an A.
Fun and easy class as long as you attended (or watched the movies out of class and attended the lectures).
He is hilarious, but dont be on your cell phone or having a discussion with your neighbor or he will call you out. You definitely have to go to the lecture day of the class and take notes if you want to pass the class. It is easy as long as you take notes and study a little before the test. All of the movies he shows are actually pretty good.
If you keep an open mind you will enjoy the films. Go to class and take GOOD notes! I wrote down almost everything he said and got a high A. This class was easy and interesting. He's a good teacher. The only people who didn't like this class were close-minded, missed class, or didn't study. Go to class, watch movies, take notes, and study = easy A!
Braysmith is a genius. The people that don't like him are just idiots who don't go to class because they're idiots. I took his 4 hour once-a-week and was scared it'd be dreadful. However, the class kept my attention and I truly enjoyed this class. If you lvoe film, you'll love him (and his mustache)
Very interesting guy. Make sure you attend every lecture and take notes, if you do that it is an easy class. He offers some extra credit.
Great class. Attend every lecture and movie, if you don't you will hate this class and not do very well. The movies are all pretty entertaining. I don't recommend the 4 hour class though, he will be sure to talk the entire time. Other than that great guy, hes funny too :)
Great class.. If you take down his notes each week after watching the movies and study them you will do great. Only 2 tests, 2 quizzes, and the final. Gives ex. credit for going to movies Friday night. I loved him, it made me mad to hear lazy students complaining about the course, it was literally so easy, I thought. Good professor and person!!! A+

Gives ex. credit for going to movies Friday night. I loved him, it made me mad to hear lazy students complaining about the course, it was literally so easy, I thought. Good professor and person!!! A+
It is a little difficult. You have to take great notes and study them. If you go to every class and take notes you will do fine. He really makes you think about movies, and you do learn a lot. He knows what he is talking about. It is a very interesting class. Although it can be challenging, I recommend it.
People complain that he was hard. But it honestly was not that bad. Just study and show up and you'll get an A. I would recommend the class that meets twice a week though -- four hours is too long. He is a very nice guy... until you start texting in class. Then he will throw things at you.
DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE DURING CLASS!!!! He tends to take offense to people who don't pay attention to him. Easy class though. I would recommend the two time a week class. Just go to every class and you won't have to study for the tests. Three tests and a comprehensive final (multiple choice.)
Braysmith is the man. He is very opinionated, but he is hilarious. He really loves film and if you don't intend to pay attention, don't take the course. If you show up it is easy though. He also offers extra credit. I will actually miss his humor.
Stick around for the lecture or else you'll fail the tests. this class can get boring, but i love the prof. he is hilarious and just a rare breed. he is pretty scatterbrained, but if you pay attention you will learn to understand his way of thinking. i learned a lot from this class. the tests weren't hard but they are worded oddly, so be careful.
This professor can push your buttons. He is persistent with the no cell phone rule (come on were in college not kindergarten). His tests are confusing. If you have to guess, guess all the above. You need to study your notes or you wont pass.
I found this class very interesting and kind of fun. It lets you look movies in a new way. Braysmith can be a jerk I'm not going to lie. but to be honest I found him hilarious, if you like sarcasm you will love him. He really is a nice guy if you talk to him one on one. I would tell anyone to take this class. it is great to fill the art credit.
The way he does notes is super crazy, but just write everything down in whatever way you want and you'll be fine. Tests weren't too bad either. He's a pretty cool/weird guy. I liked him. DO NOT GET CAUGHT USING YOUR CELLPHONE! You'll get called out and he'll actually take it away like back in high school. Overall, easy, fun, and interesting class.
I found that he was a very hard orifessor to follow and his teaching was not at all helpful to me personally. He wrote on a chalkboard in from of 200 students to take notes that I could not read. Most of his notes were just random words he would think up and ramble from there. Most of what I would learn in a sitting would not be on a test.
Very interesting class, but only if you have a love or interest in film and all the components of it. Some think it's boring because he teaches you about technical terms and the history of film, but I found it interesting. DO NOT get caught with your phone. I was more annoyed by my peers that don't stop whispering in class.
Overall it is a pretty interesting class, especially if you take it with friends. The first half of lecture usually isn't too bad, but the second half is a snoozefest. He is pretty nice but NEVER use your phone. He will be straight up pissed. Oh and good luck reading his handwriting.
A very interesting class. Attendance is highly recommended considering the only material of the course is covered in class. It is a long class that can get boring, but I enjoyed it.
Just show up on time to every class and you'll do fine! The movies he picks are very interesting and different but if you can make it through the silent you can make it through all of them. Has a great sens eof humor and is helpful!
He is a very good teacher. I took the 3 hour and 50 minute class and it was slightly boring but it never bothered me to go because it's a very relaxed atmosphere. All you do is watch movies, take notes afterward, and then every few weeks you take a quiz or exam. Quizzes are online and you can use your notes and friends. I recommend him to anyone!
easy material, just stay awake in movies you may dislike, it has movies for everyone. jsut get through the first few classes on the small details and the rest is cake! interesting class! fun teacher
Braysmith's intro to film class is very interesting. He tells you so much about films that you were never aware of before. Some of the movies are really boring, but it's still interesting. It's important to go to class on lecture day because there is no book. Overall, He's a pretty funny guy. He knows what he's talking about, even if it's boring.
Wasn't quite sure exactly what he wanted us to study for on tests. He gives us so much information that I'm not sure what's important to remember and what's not. I have an A in my Organic Chemistry class and have a B in Film, even though I've gone to every movie and lecture. I wouldn't recommend this class if you're looking for an easy art credit.
Easy class, pretty interesting. Didnt see all the movies but just listen to the lecture notes. His exams throughout are the exact same as the cumulative final. Just all the test combined and he gives you the tests back to study from! Lots of extra credit too!
Absolutely on of the best classes I decided to take this semester. You actually learn something interesting! Very clear and the movies shown were actually pretty good! I would absolutely take this class again if I needed to. Easy A, didn't even have to study for my tests and I still got high A's on all of them, just attend each class and movie!
Professor Braysmith's class is very interesting and not hard at all. You watch a movie on one day, and he gives you the notes the next day. There is no homework, no book, and allows different opportunities for extra credit by going to view different movies showing at USI. Very entertaining lectures, just good pay attention and take notes. Easy A.
Go to class, watch the movie, take the test, and get an A. Its that easy, but you actually have to go.
Professor Braysmith's class is very easy. Attendance isn't required, but it's a good idea to go so you know what's happening. Lectures are lengthy, but very informative and he makes them pretty interesting. Tests and the final were a piece of cake. Great professor, cool lectures.
Some of the films are crazy, but it's a nice change up from what I usually see.
I thought this class would be easier since you watch movies and take notes over them. I was WRONG. You MUST attend, especially on note taking days. The class is difficult and I have been using extra credit to bring my grade up. If you're struggling, definitely watch the extra credit movies. The professor is really hard, too. Would NOT recommend!
This class wasn't bad. The only thing that stinks is your grade is solely based on tests, but if you take notes and study, the tests aren't bad. He also offers easy extra credit. Before the final, he gives out the previous tests to help you study, which really helps! I would recommend taking this class if you need it for CORE credit!
I highly recommend this class. There is no book, just the notes that are taken during class. He doesn't put anything on blackboard, so it is important to come to class. You have to watch the film. Treat this like any other class, study and you will pass. He does a great job teaching and makes the class interesting.
An elective, but I really enjoyed it. No text book, just need to show up to class. Tuesday is movie day, thursday is lecture day. Tests are a bit difficult only because he doesn't spell out exactly what needs to be studied and wording of questions can be confusing. Overall it's an easy course if you show up. The movies are odd but not bad.
He is a very nice teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to show up to class. There is only tests and quizzes no homework grades. Although you can attend movies on selected Fridays for extra credit. The tests dont have any plot its all about the things around it. Such as close and medium shots, color, music, etc.
I really enjoyed his class. He is really funny and makes the lectures interesting. The tests were a little difficult, but I definitely learned a lot from the class. Attendance isn't counted against you, but your grade will suffer if you don't attend. I definitely suggest him as a professor and this class in general.
Intro to film is a good class to take. He has good lectures that really help you on the tests! You could probably go with skipping the film and watching it at home but you should probably show up for the lectures if you want to pass! NO ELECTRONICS! You learn a lot from this class about films.
Hes a funny guy, but if youre just looking for an elective course then I would avoid this one. The movies we watch are pretty good but his wording on tests can be confusing and he has no sympathy when grading them, regardless of how devoted you are to the class. The tests have a lot of trick questions on them & he can be rude if you question him.
Not super clear lectures so if you don't "get" films and don't understand the notes this class can be tricky even though its not meant to be. He is a good guy and wants people who show up to do well. It is a class that takes up a lot of time going to the class itself but no work is needed outside of class.
Was a funny professor. He was just really frustrating when it came to the tests. He words them in ways that even if you knew 100% of the movie's script, you'd still probably get a few questions wrong.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but it would be stupid not to show up. There is an exam every two weeks that covers two separate topics/films, but they are the easiest tests you will ever take. The concepts are not hard to grasp, you just need to put in the effort. This guy is also really funny and down to earth, so the lectures are bearable.
1. No electronics- will take phones, won't even post notes online 2. I've showed up to every class and still didn't do good. He should go back into our tests and give partial credit for all the correct responses we gave but maybe got one part wrong. 3. Doesn't respond to emails
