Interesting subject; intellectually stimulating professor
Always came into class with lots of enthusiasm which helped keep a three hour night class awake and enjoying his lectures.
One of the few who enjoy what they do. I loved the class.
This guys is lame, but not a bad teacher. his antics confuse and mystify.

He's really knowledgable on anthropology, but is a little boring at times. He tries to crack jokes that only he himself laughs at. Nice teacher, just prepare to be bored out of your mind. Easy midterm, probably easy final (haven't taken it yet.) No essay tests!
A bit boring but overall not bad.
Boring but easy. If you want an easy "A" take him. 2 exams total, final isn't cumulative. There is also a 5 page paper. 2 easy assignments. Midterm is 30% Final is 30% Attendance/Participation 10% Assignments 10% and Paper is 20%
wayy to boring....just do the study guides and u shuld do fine on the tests..
Class is relatively easy but boring. Make sure you DO the study guide because it closely resembles the test but dont wait till the end because it does take some time to fill out but is well worth it. Also the project takes time as well so dont put it off till the end. As long as you give some attention to this class you will have no problems.

Fairly straight-forward class. I took it during summer, so it was more difficult. Two tests, one paper. Must do the readings. Dr. Canin is very educated and very funny. I enjoyed his class a lot.
I thought that this class was about comparing existing religions (Judism, Islam, etc...) and its more about the flip-side of religion. (How and why it started.) The study guide is extremely helpful- DO IT! Project is easy but time consuming. Dr. Canin is a bit boring but likes what he teaches. don't take it right after lunch, you'll fall asleep.
I was always day dreaming. it's really hard to concentrate in the class if you think u have even a little bit of ADD .lol. he's very interested in the subject and gives alot of extra credit. DO the EC because they are worth alot. DOn't get fooled that they are worth 1 point because that's % points he's talking about!! subject matter was pretty easy
Pretty easy class. The project is really easy, just answer the questions that he asks on his website. Nothing too difficult. Dont need to read the books. Just use them to answer the study guide. Do the study guide, majority of test is on it. It was pretty easy class for me. Did not have to do put in any hard work except for the final and midterm.
he's really really boring!! he does hand out study guides, but the tests are much more complex than they look. there's also a 5 page essay about a non-western culture. don't take him!! the hardest thing about this class was staying awake, seriously.
I RARELY went to class... the few times I did I must have caught the interesting ones though, I thought the weird stuff like cults was interesting. Just use your book to fill out the study guide and exams are easy. And the project is really simple too. You should do great if you have a brain at all.
This guy is so nice, but unfortunately, pretty boring. Still, the assignments and internet research project are VERY easy. Gives study guides for tests. Recommended for easiness, but not if you want to be in an interesting class.
Don't take for GE...for the love of G-d. He's pretty damn boring. One project (or research paper if you choose), 2 1-pg. assignments, a midterm, and a final. Tests are really difficult. Really need to READ the book.
boring
Took him Summer 2006. Enjoyed his class- it was easy. Is a good professor. Is very nice and very helpful Lectures= clear and interesting. I do reccomend him. 1 easy internet project was required or paper if you choose.Gives a very detailed and helpful S.G for midterm and final- do it. Midterm & final were not hard and were fair. Take him- he is EZ.
lots of fun... a bit slow on going over the subjects... but his enthusiasim shows through, and alot of opportunitys to think for yourself and come to your own conclusions. Learned alot, had alot of fun... if your at all intrested in the subject, take him, and very helpful. and not at all hard
I took him for summer 2006. easy class and nice Teacher.
Nice guy but very boring! I barely went to class because each time I went I would fall asleep. There is one research project that u do throughout the semester, pretty easy, just follow directions. 3 tests including final, all scantron. Got a B easily. If I tried... an A.
Dr. Canin is a great professor, he knows his material and is motivated by students who has somethinh to say. Straight forward, no tricks, you know what is expected. Challenge yourself in this class by doing a longer research paper (I did), but there is a shorter easier internet assignment that he accepts. Take him if you truly enjoy learning!
This course is straight-forward and has thought provoking material. Pick the essay over the internet assignment.
Very good teacher. I took this as an online class but he always responded to my emails promptly.
Excellent teacher !!
Online class, easy A. Just do whats asked, not alot of work
Answered questions, liked the videos.
AWESOME! EASY A!
I'm an Anthropology minor and oh my god so boring. I didn't even show up to class after the first 3 weeks. Repeats everything in the book, just read the chapters and stay at home! Easy class, though if you really wanna learn take someone else.
My god this class is so boring!!!!! but its an easy A
Took the class online for summer. Pretty simple. Just read and wrote 4 papers. Subject matter pretty simple and this is a subject not very interested in. Exams were simple and basic. Good teacher for my first online class. Make sure you get involved in the discussion part.
Nice professor, however he does not know how to motivate students. He changes his mind often on assignments and is unorganized. Although he is willing to help you if you need it, you might find yourself struggling to stay awake.
Very interesting topic, but he was unorganized and repeated himself frequently. You have to go through the book for answers to the study guide, because he doesn't mention anything in class. Not a hard class... But I wouldn't say it's an "Easy A." I didn't learn anything. You're better off taking the class and just showing up for the final... dull.
Took his online class,he was unorganized and while he wanted to help his students, he didn't know how to get the class motivated. Considered changing my major because of him. He's not that difficult, HOWEVER if you want to learn something, take ANY OTHER PROFESSOR!
I took his online class. He did try explaining what he wanted in the class, but it was always unclear. Very unorganized, i would stay away and pick another class.
Unorganized, i have no idea what my grade is going to be. Don't take
I took him for the online Anth 100. He posts directions but they are very difficult to understand. He ridicules student's who do not follow directions on his posts. Completely inappropriate. There are not many points available so if you lose say 5pts. you're in the hole. Very difficult class for the 100 level. AVOID!!!
nice guy but very unorganized. changes his mind on assignments and tests all the time. he lectures all class time but about pointless things. no need to attend just read the topics on what the tests will be on & ur good. hes boring. i sat & read my book and was on my laptop most of class. he lectures off topic all the time & tests arent on lectures
Prof Canin does try. It had a huge class so I can only imagine his work load. But I did learn, and put some time in it. And overall I got an A. College grades arn't suppose to be given to you. Easy class though :)
Took online Anth 100 and reviews are accurate. Way harder than expected. He is unorganized and very lazy. I got an A but it was very hard. 3 papers, 2 are fairly easy but the term paper is horrible and is 20% of the grade. Expects a lot of posts and participation. Does not answer questions. DO NOT take if he's teaching online anthro.
took DE course with 220 students. broke into smaller groups and played virtual tribes. Participate often. tests are about 20questions. does not reply to emails/DB posts often. 2 big papers (know your stuff, hes a pro you cant b.s.)
Took this class over Fall 2010 online. Instructor was accessible for the most part. We had to do 6 short essay's, 2 debates, and one 5-7 page term paper. Grades hard. He does offer extra credit. I found his teaching style was informal and he contradicted himself alot. All in all, I would give him a C rating as an instructor.
It's a 481 level class so reading the book is definite require to be able to participate and understand discussion. Very precise as to what he wants on term papers and essays. Grades easy, lenient on due dates, reasonable. Class is interesting. I would take him again. Responds to email fast too.
I read many comments saying that this teacher is "boring." What? I might agree that the content of the class can be boring, but definitely not the teacher himself. This professor is very funny/charming/smart. He is like Woody Allen meets Tron Guy or something.
VERY boring class, but interesting stories. He gets sidetracked A LOT before we even get to thesubject of the day. He conmbines a lot of what he teaches with his religion class which becomes confusing. He offers A LOT of extra credit and his exams are multiple choice and use 1 page of notes and sometimes open book. He gives out 3 essays. do not take
It was fairly simple.I probably would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't a three hour class. Its a pretty good GE class though
Canin is a nice guy but not a great teacher. He does try to help his students and wants everyone to pass the class. His tests are a little tricky but otherwise the class is simple. Sometimes the textbook is more helpful than his lectures.
Okay this guy is REALLY boring and rambles ALOT. I mean "goes through 2 or 3 slides a class" boring. But study guides are pratically the exams which is amazing. Our final was open note and book which again is amazing. Only hard part would be the paper which isnt too hard if you follow his format, kind of writes itself really. Boring but EZ.
Dr. Canin is a good professor. The online course was not difficult, but time consuming. The chapters are long and boring plus the papers tend to be tedious. Over all worth taking with this professor.
This class was interesting, although it was a bit boring at times. The professor reminds me of a giddy ol' chap who is always smiling and laughing and I liked that vibe. Very easy to approach and he is very smart. 3 exams, 2 essays, some quizzes. Not too hard. I liked it.
So boring, he is really rude and if he doesn't feel 'respected' then he walks out and marks you all absent whether you've been there the entire time or not. Don't take this class with this teacher
Extremely easy professor. Very boring and his lectures seem to go off topic but really they aren't. Everything on the tests he says, and if you take really good notes you don't have to read the book. Recommended if you always show up to class, but if not you will get lost.
Professor Eric Canin. He has his jokes, but for himself. The topic is very interesting, but it gets very long and repetitive. This class is very boring. The tests are based on his lecture. Has couple assignments and grades hard on essays. Take him, only if it is required.
Easy lecture class, just go to class, do the reading, take notes, study. I mean if you just do the work, an A is easy to get. He is quirky. Quite a character I think. Yeah its a boring class but I thought it was fine. :)
Nice prof, just the workload is at times overwhelming, also hard grader on written assignments. It was difficult to get high scores even if one works hard.
TAKE HIM! His lectures are interesting and the tests are really easy. The homework consists of a few short essays you have to write but they are short! He allows you to turn in all papers up to a week late for FULL credit no questions asked!!! He is really nice too and quirky
Took the class this summer. Professor Canin really knows his stuff. He's pretty funny too (sometimes just to himself). The class is boring though. It's lecture & group work for a tribe activity. But it's easy: there's 4 quizzes, two essays, and three exams. Exams open book. Essays aren't bad but the 2nd essay took a lot of time/research.
Boring class but easy A Easy midterm and easy Final One long, easy, term paper
Canin is a great guy. Took him for both 481 and 480 specifically because i Like his seminar formatted class. Be ready and prepared to do A LOT of reading, but if you stay current on the readings the papers (3 of em) shouldnt be an issue. Doing the reading keeps you on your feet during discussion and just makes the class more enjoyable. 1010
The entire first two months of lectures could have been condensed into two class periods. He goes on and on and on and isn't funny or engaging. My notebook is full of doodles from just trying to stay awake in class. The class is definitely an easy A, but man it's boring for such an interesting topic. Open book, open note tests (don't need book).
Typical online class with discussions, 3 essays and 3 tests. The entire class is out of 100 points, so make sure to complete every assignment. Grades the essays a little hard for an online class. The book is essential to get a good grade on the tests. I didn't learn much, but at least I earned the credits for the class.
3 essays, 1 term paper and 1 discussion leader. NO tests or final. He's not really harsh on seeing if you really read the assigned readings but it would be nice if you chimed in during the class discussion. Too many times we were sitting there with crickets in the background because no one read. Easy A so it's the least you can do.
I took Cr. Canin's anthro of religion class. It was one of the most boring classes I've taken, and I love anthro! His lectures are very unstructured, and his assignments are not very clear. I would not recommend this class if you haven't taken anthro before; you'll be totally lost on the papers. Nice guy, not a good professor.
I took online class. Interesting material. Super short forum posts every week. Tests are EASY, HOWEVER, the three short essays required are graded pretty hard. A bit unclear on instructions for essay, but just email or see him for clarification. He's very personable and willing to help. Would take again.
Good professor to take assignments are clear as well as the grade scale. However, there is quite a bit of writing. Besides that make sure to read and understand the material to get a good grade. He is there for you if you need assistance.
Class is very interesting. Took the class during Winter (4 quick weeks). 3 quizzes 3 essays. Got an A in the class. The instructor encouraged the student to critically think and analyze the topic in a fun and refreshing way through the essay assignments. Would recommend to buy digital version of the book for the open book quizzes.
Read the assignments. Do some outside research on the articles that are hard to understand. Participate and you'll do fine. Oh, word of advice he is a HARD grader on Essays and final project. There are 3 Essays and one 6-8 page final paper. Follow instructions on format and content to a T. Not joking.
Tells you what to do for the week, Take Quiz 1 and Quiz two for this week. Easy small (3Qs) can use textbook. Deadlines are a thing since it is online, but he extends due dates sometimes. Really Easy Class, you wont regret
Great Class to Take online, Not to tough, the book is intresting, class is an easy A. Just make sure you take the quizzes. Easy not to time restricted either deadlines are made clear weeks ahead and theres always a reminder
There are only 3 essays and 3 quizzes. Quizzes can be found on quizlet. He grades pretty hard on the essays.
He has interesting ideas to integrate the material. Interesting class. For this particular course online there were absolutely no essays or research papers, which was awesome. Quizzes/tests/assignments pretty easy and they are pretty few and far between. Easy A.
I thought I was an easy class taking him again for urban anthropology
Cares more about references than the actual essay portion. Gave me an 8/10 on a essay because the website I used did not have a date. The next essay he gives me an 8.5/10 because it wasn't a scholarly reference. The class should be a Reference class instead of Anthropology.
3 quizzes, 3 two page papers, and a discussion boards. Probably one of the easiest 300 level class youll ever take. Dont get me wrong professor Canin is a hard grader on essays but as longest you follow his guidelines youll be fine. Tells you what to write in each paragraph and what citations to use. Follow his instructions!!!
I took ANTH 329 online, which is a class on the people of the Caribbean and I learned a lot of interesting things in this class. I enjoyed it because I love the Caribbean and Dr. Canin was very nice and graded fairly. You have to read to get a good grade but it very interesting and worth your while.
Amazing class!!Easy discussions (not every week), one small paper (1500 words) very correctly graded, just pay attention to your references cuz he wants them to be in alphabetical order (that's very important). And 3 quizzes also acceptable just use your book as notes. Very good professor, he is willing to help and gives you the opportunity to succeed.

If you're interested in taking a class that fairly understands all branches of anthropology, get ready to be disappointed. The problem with Canin is that it's his way or the highway. If you're an anthropology major focusing on the evolutionary/biological track, get ready to put up with his dismissal of your area. Has no respect for natural sciences
Dr Eric Canin is a great professor. His class has 3 essays and the rubric for each one tells you exactly what to write in each paragraph. Feel free to ask him if you need help. He is very helpful. Definetly one of the best online professor. 3 Exams, 3 Essays and a discussion question every other week or so. Highly recommended.
Professor Canin is a great Professor and it is very easy to get a good grade in this course. This was the easiest class I had during this semester. You only have to get 2 different books for the semester and I easily passed by just skimming through the pages to find the answers to the study guides and he is very easy to contact.
You can tell Eric is really into what he's talking about. His class is mainly lectures and they get boring. He counts attendance so just show up. 1 group project which is new this semester (easy don't worry). 2 papers, 1 mini project/paper, 2 midterms, and final. No homework. Minimal things for grades. Open note/book for midterms.
Easy A, highly recommend. Essays are outlined for you, discussions weekly, and a group project.
Group project is required but is not difficult. Assignments are not difficult, they cover interesting topics. Fairly easy online class, just make sure you are on top of the due dates and don't fall behind.
His online class if fairly straight forward but I hope you do not have any questions. Many of my peers and I emailed Prof. Canin for clarification and he instructed us to read the directions and not to bother him with our "annoying" emails. His syllabus and instructions are outdated. We are in FALL19, everything says its due in March etc.
This class was probably the most disorganized, confusing college class I have taken. He constantly changes the syllabus and the points for projects last minute. His entire class consisted on him going off on tangents and we had to study for tests on our own because he barely covered topics in class. He should have a much lower rating. Terrible prof
2 research papers and 1 short paper that is only 1 page. A group project which is very simple online, you just do your part and turn it in. Respond to discussion post questions. 3 exams which are pretty easy. Easy and not time consuming online class.
If you study and read the textbook you should be able to get an A.
Great professor! Easy class although sometimes he was a little disorganized but nothing too bad!
His fully online class is pretty easy. He is very responsive, and gave clear grading criteria for every assignment. He also curved our final grades, and I would take him again if I needed to.
The most reasonable, understanding, and nicest professor by far. If you need a GE done take him for sure. No regrets. Super nice and is always willing to get feedback from the students. He is not tech savvy but that doesn't matter. Great guy all around and very passionate about his lectures. Take him!!
Professor Canin is a great professor who is very passionate about Anthropology and what he teaches. There was two easy discussion posts (relating a song to the topics learned), three (easy) quizzes, two 3 page papers, and an easy group project. Class is in person but he made it optional to attend in person or on zoom. Easy class you will pass!
The most unorginized teacher I have ever had! he's also very unprofessional and I did not enjoy his class what so ever. I don't understand how he has such good reviews on here.
Overall, this class was organized well, and it was clear when all the assignments were due. He graded tough on the term paper, but the quizzes and homework were relatively easy. The class is great if you put in the effort and submit all assignments on time. He's an awesome professor and is very understanding, so don't be afraid to reach out.
Professor Canin is a remarkable teacher and lecturer. I got 100% in his class, the assignments were simple and straight forward, there is no honest reason not to pass if you put in effort. He will help you succeed if you ask for help on anything you're confused on. I did the papers last minute but they're enjoyable enough, albeit a little tough.
Took online course, class was structured very easy, weekly discussion posts and a few MC exams as well as two term papers based on text and a religion project. Overall, the course is based on about 100 points so don't slack weekly posts and you should be fine. Easy online course, but beware of losing easy points as semester passes by!
Graded by very few things so don't mess up. "As long as you do it you pass", this isn't the case. You have to do it well. Very Very lecture heavy and attendance is mandatory however he reads the slides. He allows us to miss class if you give him an excuse however I rarely do that so be careful.
No textbook required. Attendance is taken randomly. Super easy class for a ge and there's 2 essays that are easy but make sure you address the prompt. Lectures can be boring but professor is very passionate about the topic. Easy group project. Exams are easy and taken at home. You can miss half the class sessions and still pass with a B.
Really nice and caring guy and the subject matter he presents is fairly interesting but if you've already taken a similar class at a community college or other a lot of material is repeat. Tends to ramble a bit during lectures but classwork is laid out clearly with an essay final project and three quizzes. Great for a credit anthro course.
Online, caring prof. Easy class. Only have 3 quizzes, discussions, 2 essays, and group project. All very easy. No exams. Group project was a bit confusing but all you had to do was participate in group discussions on canvas and do a single slide. The essay was the hardest assignment, make sure to research early on, grades strictly, follow rubric.
3 quizzes, 3 assignments, 1 essay, and 1 group project (can be subbed to do individually). 1-2 discussion posts per unit (3). textbook is free & most content is taught through powerpoints, lecture videos, and a few documentaries. very manageable workload and very helpful prof! passionate about his work & is very helpful if you attend office hours.
Professor Canin's ANTH305 class is fairly straightforward, with easy assignments and tests. While attendance is mandatory, the lectures can be a bit dry. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep. Overall, a solid class if you stay on top of the work.
Chill class and super easy! Highly recommend.
Amazing professor that genuinely cares about his students!
This class was pretty easy in a great way, I enjoyed the assignments. Professor Canin cares about his students. Has one extra credit opportunity, but other than that pretty straight forward with what he expects as far as grades go. I would take him again.
Very jovial guy. Has a talent to link any conversation to anthropological concepts. Amazing general knowledge of just about any subject.
