awesome professor, teaches a variety of classes including archeologym AH, classics and history
He is the best prof at GWU. His teaching tripled the size of the Archaeology majors in 3 semesters. WOW! :-)
He was one of the best professors I ever had at GW.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Really what more is there to say?
Great arch. and history teacher, one of the best I've had here, actually manage to stay awake through slides.
is a little tough on the tests, but is very fair and the lectures are fairly intersesting. I really enjoyed his class.
One of the best ever here! Really knows his stuff (BBC & Disc Channel are huge fans). He's also really nice and fun. Plus you actually want to come to class. (Hist109/Clas119)
Amazing professor. I would recommend him anytime.
This is the best professor on the entire GW Staff. He has knowledge, humor and isn't afraid to let his students debate their issues. He is interesting and his knowledge of classics and archaeology is amazing. A must for any student.
my favorite GW professor. funny, smart challenging and his class was so great, and interesting, i actually didnt miss a class all semester.
I have had nearly every class that Eric H. Cline teaches, and he has been wonderful in each one. His lectures are interesting, well illustrated, and sometimes even amusing. I VERY highly recommend any course he is teaching.
amazing prof! he really tries to get to know you, which is great...he knew my name by the second class! his courses fill up really quick...and most people actually go to class! yes, he's that good
Most certainly one of my favorite teachers on campus- I can't wait to take another class from him. His lectures are interesting and amusing annd even with the most boring topics he manages to add in something that will keep you awake
The best professor I've had here. Highly recommended.
He's great. Eric Cline is one of the greatest professors on campus. Great professor makes the class interesting and fun.
Love love love him! He's hilarious and very knowledgeable about his subject (written a few books, been on tons of digs!) He teaches in a way that gets you really interested in the subject and keeps you involved in the class. Definitely recommend, I'm taking him again!
Very nice, fun, easy to talk to. Gives very clear lectures and is very helpful at getting you into extracurricular activities.
funny, very visual (uses slides, images), very helpful, super nice.
Wow! Cline is an amazing professor. He is witty as hell and always on top of it. Only class I have here that I enjoy going to lectures. You can't fail this course, he grades on exactly what he teaches in class. Plus, if your looking for an expert in the field of archeaology, you've found him. Great professor and great guy.
very nice, easy going, funny guy, exams are easy if you go to class and take notes, very interesting lectures and material for the most part
Cline is a great prof. If you go to class and pay attention his tests are easy and u barely have to study. However, u don't have to go to class as long as you can get someone to sign you in when the sheet goes around. The TA also holds review sessions which are very helpful. I recommend this class.
Superb professor, lectures are extremely interesting and I've never missed a class. I'm taking another class with him next semester. His tests aren't that bad if you take decent notes and pay attention, as they only cover the relevant info from his lectures.
My favorite professor so far. He's so funny and intersting to listen to. The tests are pretty straight forward. I highly reccomend taking a Cline class...they fill one or 2 of the GCRs and are very entertaining to show up to. the material isn't difficult...
amazing! so easy and so fun! he takes attendance, but the classes are a BLAST! he travels some too, so classes are sometimes cancelled. best class!
This is my third class with Cline and he is simply an amazing professor. He is highly knowledgeable, passionate, entertaining, and if that isnt enough he has two adorable children who sometimes come to class!
Egomaniac. He spends A LOT of time bragging about how he was on National Geographic and showing us personal pictures when he should be lecturing. He also tends to prefer obnoxious students who suck up to him, so if that's you, take his class!
Great elective. He's funny and interesting and got me excited about a subject I had never studied before. Reading and writing to do, but worthwhile. It's also pretty easy to drink during class.
With both of the classes I've taken, I went into them completely uninterested in the topic and came out wanting to make that field my major. His tests are very fair, but long. There was nothing on them I didn't expect His lectures are very clear and comprehensive. Although he does like to add personal anecdotes, I think they only add to the class.
Cline is an amazing professor, but don't come into the class thinking he is easy though, cause he's not. He expects a lot and teaches a lot of information which he expects you to remember.
this class was extremelly interesting and rewarding. cline is a great professor but because he is so knowledgable in the subject which i knew nothing about, it was very rewarding to do well--with that said, in order to do well you really need to invest yourself in going to class and studying hard for the midterm and final. no surprises on the exams
alot of work, good class but a lot of work. He is knowledgeable and intersted in the subject.
Too much Hollywood, too little scholarship. Undisciplined approach to teaching.
I absolutely loved this class! Cline adds in lots of "cocktail trivia" and is genuinely interested in the subject (which makes the class worth it even if you have only a passing interest in archaeology). : )
This class is sort of easy..the averages on the tests are high, but don't think you don't have to study for them! most of the questions on the test come from the lectures...so be sure to go to class! i do agree that he is a bit too hollywood...but he's funny and like to add in bits of fun facts....i recommend it if you want to fulfill gcr's
Awesome teacher Im a theatre major. His class was so interesting Im picking up an Arch Minor. one of the best Profs on campus. well known in the buisness he wrote me a rec letter to a Pompeii dig site and Im now goin this summer. Fun to talk to as well. stop by during his office hours. make sure he knows your face.
The best teacher I had this fall by far, made me interested in going on a dig in the future. The class is not an easy A, you must study for the tests, but the tests are extremely fair. When people say he is egotistical dont listen to them. The fact that he can teach us about a famous archaeological site and then show pictures of him there is cool.
Try not to fall asleep. Unless you really love archaeology, you're going to be bored out of your mind. NOTHING like Indiana Jones. Stay awake for powerpoint slides and remember all the picutres and their significance, you'll need to for the tests.
So easy and the nicest guy ever. Very knowledgeable and clearly likes what he does. Light reading, clear lectures, and an open note final.
Took into to Archaeology with Cline. He was easy, but really interesting. Attendence not mandatory. The techniques are a little dry... but that's the course. Easy exams.
awesome prof. great class
One of the greatest professors at GW. Pretty easy class too. As a polisci major, I wish there were polisci professors who were as helpful as Cline is to anthro majors.
One of the best professors I've ever taken. Loves what he does and makes class really interesting. Really funny and very helpful. Only short 3 exams and a short essay, which was really interesting. Easy exams, mostly multiple choice and slide id's. Highly recommend to take this class
He's a sweet guy who loves what he does. I don't think most people found him funny, but his humor is just so cheesy that you have to laugh. The material was incredibly intriguing and the classes were worth attending.
Excellent professor. Tests are easy if you read the book and complete the review sheet he e-mails out. Good, quirky sense of humor.
This guy is awesome! definitely my favorite prof this year. Nice guy, funny, tons of personal experience, and throws in silly little tidbits of information. one paper, midterm, and a final. he let us choose what types of questions we wanted on the midterm, so there were 5 picture ID's, 7 matching, and the rest multiple choice. great class!!!
Professor Cline is one of those professors who takes an incredibly dull subject and makes it amazingly interesting. Attendance is mandatory, but you really want to go for Cline's jokes anyway. The class is very, very easy; exams are multiple choice and there's only one paper. Professor Cline really wants everyone to do well in his class!!
By far one of the best professors at GW. Professor cline made arch. so interesting and a ton of fun! Highly recommend
Cline is by far one of the best professors at GW. He makes the class extremely enjoyable and the lectures are interesting! Take good notes in lecture, pay attention, do your work, and you'll have an A
I love Professor Cline. One of my favorite professors at GW. He makes class really fun and interesting. His jokes are a bit corny but still make you laugh. If you pay attention in lectures and skim the book you'll do well on the tests. Take him!
Still the man. Always will be.
He is one of the best professors at GW, and he knows it :). There can't be a more qualified person to teach archaeology- he's done it all, and is extremely knowledgeable. Very funny guy, class is not difficult if you take notes and read the text book. TAKE THIS CLASS!
AMAZING! Take him for intro to Archaeology - so fun, not hard. Just come to class and take notes and pay a lot of attention to the pictures on the slides.
Easily one of the best teachers at GWU. He is extremely invested in what he is teaching and wants to make teaching as interesting as possible. He does not use the text book EVER. go to class, read the slides online, and you will do great.
Go to class and pay attention, and you'll do great. Study a lot before the exams - make sure you know all the info on all the sites and theory, and you'll do well. Most of the class ends with an A or B. Dont underestimate the exam material. He is very well qualified, and has some pretty good stories. Fun class.
The Man is unbelievable. I found he very funny and quite engaging. He makes a fairly boring concept seem fascinating. I plan to take another class with him because I found him to be my favorite teacher at GW. Go to class, take notes, and read outside slides. Study for tests, and I got an A. He changes his tests quite often... for forewarning.
cline has a good sense of humor. 3 exams that aren't that bad, but they do get progressively harder- he adds slide ids. so study more for each one. or don't. i didn't study for the last two and i ended up with an A- in the class
This is my second class with Cline. His jokes are the same, a bit hollywood. But, he knows his stuff. IF YOU THINK HE'S AS EASY AS HIS INTRO CLASS HE IS NOOOT! I took both ANTH 003 and this class. he takes upper levels MUCH MUCH more seriously. So beware if you're taking his upper levels out of interests. favors students in arch. majors a lot more.
By far my favorite professor at GW. Cline is one of the coolest people that I've ever met, his stories are incredible and the class is always entertaining and funny. If you have any interest in archaeology - TAKE THIS CLASS!
Professor Cline is fantastic. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he will having you as interested in Archaeology as he is in no time. I sincerely had no interest in Anthropology whatsoever before taking this course, but now I am seriously considering going to a dig with him. Doesn't use the book much, just study his lecture notes and you'll do well.
Honestly, this was my favorite course this semester. Don't buy the book because you really don't need it, but you can't just go to class and get an A. Study as much as you do for your other courses, and you will get an A or a B. Take notes during class, study them, and do well. THIS CLASS WAS SO INTERESTING.
seriously... you don't need the book whatsoever. save some cash and cut down on study time.
Professor Cline is so interested in his subject, and it shows in his teaching. He's passionate and very funny, always ready with an Indiana Jones reference or corny joke. I read the book all the time in the beginning but realized it wasn't worth it. Make index cards with everything on his powerpoints, and it's an easy A. Take this class! Amazing!
Really interesting class, tests weren't too bad, techniques are easy to memorize, know your dates!! Paper is a total joke. Cline is really interesting, tells great stories about digs (which he will never test on).
He's an interesting guy, but he spends most of lecture time telling stories that aren't always relevant to the topic (and slides are mostly pics from his digs). I ended up teaching myself many of the definitions and going online to learn more about the sites he discussed briefly. Exams are not difficult if you are comfortable with the material.
you dont need the book unless your class notes arent that great. he posts lectures online but they dont have all the information on them so notes are really important.
The class is extremely interesting and he engages the class with great stories. each week is divided into lectures on material and then different archaeological sites. The class is great and he is an amazing professor that is funny, witty, and is always there to help. TAKE his class! best decision I have made
Professor Cline is one of the best teacher's I've had since middle school. His passion for the subject matter is infectious and he keeps the class entertaining and informative (as long as you're already interested in the subject to some degree). Highly recommend taking any course taught by him.
Fun intro class. I signed up hoping that it would be mostly about cool ancient civilizations and was not disappointed. Prof. Cline's a friendly guy with obvious passion for the subject, and (in the intro class) he wisely sticks to showing sweet pictures of great archaeological sites. I took this as an elective and always looked forward to it.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! Really good lectures, works in some personal stories and humor. You can tell he loves what he does and that makes it easier for you to follow. Not hard class if you just listen. Im not a anth major but I still really enjoyed his class, he applies lessons to other subjects and life in general. Take Cline!!
Cline is an amazing professor. Very clear, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. Exams are a breeze if you attend lecture, which is totally worth it. Take him if you can. You won't regret it
Tries very, very hard to be funny, which I respect. Powerpoints are online and you can bring your laptop to lecture which is really helpful because you can just type your notes on the Powerpoint. He also has been absolutely everywhere, met everyone, and seen everything, so his lectures are personal, which is cool. Good class overall.
Professor Cline is an incredible teacher. Not only does he keep his classes interesting by including side-stories about his own experiences, but he is also very funny! He is not the kind of Professor to ask trick questions on his exams, so it is very easy to do well in the class! Even if you think you would be bored with the topic, take this class!
Cline is one of the best professors I have ever had at GW. He is interesting, funny, and noticeably interested in the subject. He makes everything interesting and rewards students who simply come to class and take notes. If you do those things you will get an A. Attend class and take good notes and you will get an A and learn an amazing amount.
Professor Cline is absolutely wonderful. He's very funny and self-deprecating, and even uses his test questions to crack jokes. The TAs that we had this semester were also wonderful and are a testament to his teaching skill, as they are handpicked. If you take notes in class and go to the TA review sessions, you'll be fine on tests.
BEST PROFESSOR AT GW. I could not recommend him enough!! This is the best class at GW if you take with Cline. He's fascinating and makes it very interesting. He's also extremely fair and makes it fairly easy to get an A with effort and interest. Complete the assignments on time and you'll do fine. A must take before graduating
He is a really good professor. His lectures are interesting and fun to listen to. If you pay attention in lecture and study the lecture notes you'll do well. His tests are fair and you know what to expect on the tests. He clearly loves what he does, and it shows when he talks about his work. Great professor, I recommend him.
Super clear teaching and a really fun class! I felt like I understood everything and all of his expectations. Tests are not too difficult and you do in-class reviews to prepare which is really nice!
Professor Cline is a great lecturer who is extremely passionate about the subject and really knows the material. The exams and projects are very straightforward, and if you do the reading and attend class, a good grade is absolutely attainable.
Great class. Really easy if you pay attention in lectures and take a bit of notes. Also go to discussion section and you are guaranteed to get a good grade. Great for knocking out GPAC
Cline is the best! Tel Kabri was my favorite study abroad experience!
Professor Cline is seriously one of the best professors at GW. He is really, really good at what he does (archaeology) and even if you just want to take one of his classes to knock out GPAC you will end up loving it. He also runs really cool study abroad in Israel. If you take Cline, you will not regret it.
One of the best Teachers I've ever had.
So I saw the other posts about him before I took the class and thought it would be great but in reality it was ehh. You have a midterm and a final that basically determine your grade--they were very hard in my opinion. His study guide for the midterm was "if we took class time to cover it, it will be on the test" so it is just too much information.
Midterms are easy-- I got above an 80 without studying. That said, this guy is a god: He's one of the foremost experts in his field with degrees from 3 Ivy league schools, gives engaging and funny lectures, and is the highlight of my week, every week. If his class wasn't before noon, it would be the perfect course.
Lectures are very interesting. Although attendance is not mandatory, going on blackboard and studying off the slides will not help because all of his slides are just pictures and he explains what the pictures are in class.
Cline is a prominent figure in the archaeology field. Unfortunately, this status has gone to his head. While his anecdotes can sometimes offer insight into archaeology, they often come across as arrogant. I found myself rolling my eyes more often than I was taking notes. Despite this, he seems like a nice guy and the class is fine.
Cline is fantastic and fun, & a great lecturer, with a lot of opportunities, but this course is a pretty solid intro course with a LOT of busy work, the criteria is clear, but if you're not interested in the subject or willing to do the busy work it's not gonna be a good time.
Great professor, at the top of his field. Very funny anecdotes, knows everyone in the archaeological field, extremely well published, has received many awards for his teaching as well as his publications, definitely take him, this class is amazing even if it's not part of your major
Cline is awesome. His grading criteria is extremely clear and he doesn't expect you to know anything he doesn't talk about in class or assign in the reading specifically. That said, he does reward intellectual curiosity and extra knowledge. He's helpful & approachable if you want or need to talk about the class or anything archaeology related.
Cline is awesome! Lectures are mandatory bc he takes attendance. Midterm and final are straightforward, just make sure to read both textbooks and memorize the artifacts bc he focuses a lot on those. Two short, easy papers that boost your grade. Pretty easy elective/GPAC, an A is definitely manageable if you just read the textbooks.
One of the best classes I'm sure I will have taken at GWU.
He is great at teaching his subject, and is a leading expert in his field. He lectured for the first half of class, and then usually showed some kind of video for the second half. If the video was a History Channel or BBC episode, he was usually in it too. He definitely knows his stuff and leaves you with a deep understanding of the subject.
I've been in 3 classes with Cline now and I have loved every single one. I've never learned more, yet every class is funny and entertaining. The hour and fifteen minutes goes by like nothing. I really enjoy his lectures. Very straightforward.
LOVE Professor Cline. Couldn't be happier with my decision to take this class. She is so sweet and helpful. She is also super passionate about what she teaches and makes seemingly dry and confusing material engaging and clear. Would love to be able to take another class with her. Not too many assignments and very fair grades. She's the best.
Dr. Cline is amazing! He is really passionate about what he teaches, and it comes across in his lectures. I learned a lot in his class. He gives extra credit chances as well. Tests are easy, just remember to memorize date of creation, importance, and country of discovery of key artifacts.
SOOO engaging and tests were easy as long as you went to class and reviewed the notes
Very enjoyable class that everyone should take as a social science requirement. Tests were easy as along as you read the readings at least once, study important dates, and scanned the PowerPoints. Make sure to participate during discussions!
Cline is so engaging and I loved his class!
Super chill and smart guy, really knows what he's talking about.
Fun guy, knows his stuff. Tests are relatively easy, though its a bit tougher if you aren't super into classics/archaeology as most of his classes are. Still highly recommend
No need to waste money and buy books; everything you need to know will be covered in class. Very knowledgeable about his field, would take again. Did come off as a bit braggy at times. Be prepared to see a whole bunch of his vacation pics
Absolutely LOVE EHC!!!! He is always entertaining in lecture and makes it very clear what will be on his exam. I will 100% be taking another one of his classes.
Cline is a great professor. While I have never been interested in the subject area of this class, he is always sure to make his lectures fun.
Great professor very engaging and really cares about his students. Very easy class as-long as you read and show up to lectures and take good notes. Really recommend this class for anyone even if you're not interested in the topic Cline makes it very interesting!
I love this man with all my heart and soul, and he's my favorite professor at this university so far. Entertaining lectures, clearly defined readings and assignments. I wish all my professors taught like him, and he has so much experience in the subject area. No matter your major, you need to take this class.
Professor Cline was my favorite professor of the semester and really made the topic interesting as he is so passionate about it. He is very clear on his expectations and loves to help out. His tests are not easy but they get easier to study for as you go on with the course.
Professor Cline was my favorite professor in the first semester of my Freshman year. He is knowledgeable and good at teaching. His lecture was interesting and I really have learnt a lot. Highly recommended for someone who is interested in this topic.
A real legend. This is a professor with a Wikipedia page.
I think this might be the easiest class at GW. You can choose to either read the book and take notes on that, or take good notes at lecture, they're pretty much the same thing. The lectures are fine, but it's not the most intellectually stimulating class offered at GW.
Had Cline for two classes now. Dude is a riot. He is super respected in his field and so passionate about the subject. Took his class for a requirement but now I can't imagine not having him. The tests are long but pretty easy. You don't really need to do the readings, just pay attention in lectures. Has tons of experience and loves to share it.
The lecture is engaging and he makes a lot of "Dad jokes". Homework very manageable - do the reading and then you take a quiz (open note) on what is going to be covered in the upcoming week. Purpose is to make sure you've "at least opened the book". Attendance is mandatory - he passes a sign in sheet at the beginning of class.
BORING if youre not into history
Has definitely changed how he does this class. Heard it used to be so easy and there were take home tests but he is HARD. Makes you know very specific details and his lectures drone on and on. Would never take a class with him again if I could pick another prof. Respected though.
He is a good professor and is very knowledgabe about his field of study. Pay close attention to what he says in class, basically everything thats on the exam is what he emphasizes in class; barely any material from the textbook.
Material is really easy. Exams are very easy to do well on if you do the study guides he gives. He occasionally gives some extra credit opportunities. Attendance is mandatory, but lectures are really chill. You don't really need to read the textbook. Highly recommend this class if you need yo fulfill a g-pac!
Easily one of the nicest and most passionate professors at GW. You will look forward to going to this class.
Genuinely really interesting class and professor Cline is super nice. You learn about cool stuff. I just took this as an elective and I'm glad I did. It got to a point where I stopped taking notes in class and just did all the readings in the few nights before the test and I got an A. Highly recommend this class and this prof :)
Cline is a great professor and has inspired me to minor in archaeology. Definitely go on the trip to Tel Kabri if you have the chance! He is my favorite professor at GW so far.
You definitely have to study for the tests especially if you don't listen in class, but the material is easy and really interesting. I enjoyed learning about archaeology even though its a lot of memorization. If you want a relaxing class, take this but know that you do have to put in some work to get an A.
Lovely man! Amazing class and great lecturer. Really cares about students and will do a lot to help.
Prof Cline is just amazing. I loved this class so much and I always looked forward to going to lecture. The course material is so interesting, and if you pay attention and study a bit, you'll do great :)
Easiest class you can take at gw.
I love Eric Cline and ANTH 1003. Easy class, but you'll look forward to it! His love for archaeology is contagious!
Wonderful professor and class. My advisor signed me up for this class freshman year and I loved it! Professor Cline was especially great with the online environment. He stayed engaging during lectures and allowed our exams and quizzes to be open-note which reduced our stress tenfold. Take this class!
You would have to try to not get an A in this class.
great class. i'm not a classics major but found the class super accessible and interesting. prof cline clearly cares a lot about students and wants people to learn. class is graded by three exams and a final, but the tests were fairly easy. he's not trying to give anyone a bad grade.
Professor Cline is great. His classes are easy. Very lecture heavy but easy to do well.
As long as you pay attention to the lectures and use the review guide to prepare for the exams, it's really hard to NOT get an A. Eric Cline is very nice and funny and makes the course very fun.
Cline is one of the best professors GW has to offer. He is able to turn boring material into a very interesting lecture. He made all of our exams open notes and although attendance was not required, I found myself actually wanting to go to class because he is such an amazing professor!
This guy thinks he eminem . 10/10
Professor Cline was amazing to take! He was so funny and engaging with the class. His lectures are the textbook verbatim, so if you miss a few lectures, just give it a read and you should be fine.
Amazing and incredibly accomplished professor. Class is divided into two midterms, a final, and a writing assignment, all not too hard if you put in some effort. This class is very lecture heavy and some material may be a little boring to some. However, he is super engaging and makes good jokes. The textbook is the lecture, so be sure to read
I would literally die for this man. He's great--really knows and cares about the class content so while classes are very lecture heavy, they're super interesting. He assigns textbooks but you don't need to read them. Grading is only 3 tests, but they're usually open-note so it's not too bad. Highly recommend this man for any class.
Literally sobbing I love this man. He captures your attention, so while the class is very lecture based, it feels like no time flies. I've often been taking notes and listening and realized that an hour has magically passed. Two midterms (one in october and one in november), one final, and one writing assignment that's 3-5 pages long. Take him!
This class was amazing! Attendance was mandatory as your grade would drop if you miss 4 classes. You will want to attend lectures as they are super engaging. There are only 3 exams but they are open note which makes them super easy. He is easy to reach outside of class and is happy to accommodate. I would take any class he is teaching.
- Extremely passionate, engaging lectures - He gives a link to a free pdf of the textbook - a lot of reading - one big paper at the end of the year - easy grading on exams and assignments - has a lot of review material available online
Easy and interesting class to take! I never read the textbook and slightly payed attention during lectures since they were boring at times, but made sure to memorized everything the day before, and I was fine. There's also easy extra credit! Definitely recommended for a gpac class.
His lectures were really fun. There was a LOT of reading he assigned, but I found that the content that was on the midterm/final was all based on his lectures, not reading. He's switched to offering open note for the midterm and final, which was super helpful, especially considering that those two are where the majority of the grade comes from.
Great lecturer, and very knowledgeable about anthropology and history. If you come to class and take assignments/quizzes/exams seriously then the class isn't hard at all. Readings are very helpful but not mandatory.
Prof cline is super knowledgeable and enthusiastic on his material. The class has 3 exams, a map exercise, and a though piece added to the third exam/final. The tests are fairly easy (open note/book) and he's genually interesting, even for a 2 1/2 hour class.
Prof. Cline proves time and again that he is among the best professors GW can offer, and would highly recommend taking a class with him. That being said, this class is significantly harder than Intro to Archeology in the amount of material you are expected to memorize for tests, but he made all of them open note and book, which was nice
Cline made the 3 hour once a week lectures enjoyable. He is very experienced and knowledgeable in his field of study which makes for great lectures. The class is very content heavy but he goes at a great pace. The tests are fair and open book. Great class and one of my favorite professors!!
Great survey course and keeps lectures engaging. Tests were open note. Class was easy for me as an art history major who was interested in the material. If you don't have a passion for history, it's still an interesting class, but you might have some trouble with the textbook readings. Super helpful outside class and willing to help all students.
Cline is insanely well-versed in the topic and obviously immensely passionate about the subject matter. The tests are open-note and easy, as long as you pay attention and do the readings. There are no daily hw or quiz grades, basically just your tests and discussion participation. Cannot recommend enough for those in the major or gen ed.
Professor Cline is one of my favorite professors I had this semester. He cares about content of the class and you can tell from his lectures. There are 3 exams in the class and writing assignment. This class is amazing and I highly recommend it to anyone.
I literally love this man so much, I would take his class every semester if I could. Intro to Archaeology and Civilizations were so interesting and Cline is such an amazing professor. Super approachable and funny and the workloads are extremely manageable. Really easy to do well, but also easy to fall behind. Absolutely a must take professor at GW.
Dr Cline is a really nice and caring guy who knows A LOT from memory. If you're not into history (like me) you might find the lectures feel very long but the material is not hard. DW abt textbooks, all the exam material was in lecture. I think he gets the vibe that it can be boring so he tries his best to make it fun for us. Overall great class.
Really nice professor and person. Lots of things to memorize for exams, but relatively easy and he compiles a study guide for you.
Literally the best professor ever, he's very helpful and even though his lectures are long he makes them VERY entertaining because he's passionate about what he teaches i have a short attention span but managed to genuinely pay attention throughout the entirety of his lectures because of how he teaches.
I took his HIST 3111 Excavating Armageddon course after taking two other courses with him and it was just as great as the others. It was very archaeology heavy so don't let the HIST part fool you. Definitely a more challenging course but it is expected as approval is required and its a small class. He is one of the best professors at GW.
Fun lecturer and very clearly wants the best for his students and for them to be engaged. 3 exams but allowed a double-sided cheat sheet for all of them. If you do poorly on an exam just talk to him and he will help out. Super easy to talk to and is well-respected in his field and department. Everyone who takes a class with him loves him
This class with Professor Cline is a must-take. He makes the lectures engaging and enjoyable, even for those without a strong interest in history. unstuck study was a game-changer for study prep, alongside the open-book exams.
Prof is one of the smartest and nicest I have ever had at GW. However, his class is somewhat difficult because it is only based on 3 exams (90%) of your grade, and a 1 quiz (10%). All lectures are recorded, and he offered 3 extra credit points. Overall, I would recommend because he is an amazing person (plus you get a cheat sheet on exams).
If you can take a class with Cline, TAKE IT! He has so much experience (check out his wikipedia page) and his lectures are interesting. Class includes one paper, two midterms and final, and he does test review and lets us bring a full paper cheat sheet to exams. The TAs for this course are very chill as well.
Professor Cline is the GOAT. Incredibly respected, incredibly knowledgeable, and his lectures are always great. Your grade is based on 2 midterms, a final, and a writing assignment- all graded by your TA. Lectures are recorded and the textbook contains relatively the same information as the lecture. If you get the opportunity- take him!
If you're a freshman thinking about taking this class, do it! It's a great first semester course to ease you into college life. Prof Cline is incredibly fun to listen to and makes it very clear that if you attend and listen to lectures, you will do well. The double sided cheat sheet for tests is very generous as well.
Such a good professor, very easy class generally. Absolutely loved him and the class I had with him.
If you have the chance, TAKE THIS CLASS! Prof. Cline is amazing and extremely experienced, making his lectures highly entertaining, hilarious, and enjoyable. For all the tests you can make a double sided cheat sheet based on the review done in class. His ties always change each class, and he makes archeology really interesting to study.
Very passionate about the subject and his lectures are easy to understand are not very boring. Class grading is mostly on a few tests which are pretty difficult, but cheat sheets are allowed and test outlines are always given out.
