Dr. Crumpler is great at explaining organic chemistry to students who aren't chem majors. He made a point to describe connections between the concepts we were learning and our future medical careers. His exams were fair (they covered exactly what he lectured) and he was very accessible outside of class. Highly recommend him if he continues at UCF.
Grading scale: 80% (3 midterms, 1 final), 20% (hw, attendance, quizzes). Exams were easy except the ACS final (got an A on 2 midterms), gave a BUNCH of extra credit that helped students with lower grades. He made orgo seem easy, but I recommend reading the book. For reference, I got an A in orgo 1. The class is an easy A if you practice the book.
While professor Crumpler is undoubtedly very good at teaching orgo concepts, I believe the short duration of the summer semester left most of the class unprepared. However, he was very lenient and gave a bunch of EC and allowed the final to replace the lowest exam. Would def take again if he was available in fall/spring. Cool dude.
Lectures are a complete waste of time and sanity, and then homework assignments are never posted on canvas. They are instead uploaded to a separate website sporadically with no communication what so ever. We have not covered any material in class that is relevant to homework, labs or exams. He is rude and openly mocks students. Dixon is better.
Terrible communication. Attendance is taken by UCFHere(graded). No exam make ups, terrible lectures (reads from screen) No don't recommend.
I am a pretty independent student and I struggled to keep up with what was going on. No schedule to follow, does not review power points that he uses to lecture beforehand, struggles to stay on topic and to refrain from sarcasm with students. Also unclear about assignments. Syllabus wasn't given until 2ndweek of class, and was still not complete.
Crumpler is the worst professor I have taken while attending UCF. He has absolutely no care for his students and instead of helping students when they ask questions, he provides nothing but sarcastic responses and puts blame on the student rather than anything. His lectures are no help and provide no valuable information for what is on the exam.
One of the worst professors I've ever had at UCF. Does not care for his students and course is EXTREMELY unorganized. Students always left in the dust. Study guides are always posted the day/hours before an exam. Attendance is graded (UCFHere). ALL exams are cumulative. Gives extra credit but takes forever to grade. Has no set schedule to follow.
Crumpler seemed ok originally. However disregarded the syllabus on multiple occasions causing detrimental issues for many. He failed to cover the full course material, only getting halfway through chapter 8 when the course goes through 11, however our final covers all 11. Every exam is cumulative and sets students up for failure in every way.
Highly recommend not taking Professor Crumpler, he did not prepare his class for any of the exams or the final, you have to teach yourself throughout the entire course and he didn't even get through all the chapters this semester. He is very disorganized and if a student asks a reasonable question he will only respond with sarcasm or with a laugh.
Easily one of the worst professors I have ever encountered. He is super unorganized and is horrible at communicating with his students. He is also super sarcastic and not in a funny way it's more of attitude than sarcasm. Be prepared to teach yourself and to receive no feedback from him. If you struggle with science courses do not take him at all.
Absolutely awful teacher. I'm pretty good at Chemistry so I studied for exams completely on my own and did pretty well, but on my OWN. No help. I wouldn't be as upset if he just had any sort of structure to the course, the reason I won't be getting an A is because he is SO unorganized, impossible to plan or prepare. Randomly puts up assignments.
very disorganized. We didn't get through the entire curriculum and taking ACS. Never knew what to expect when preparing for exams as we were so far behind in class. Attendance is graded Always put hw on MasteryChemistry without linking them to eCampus until after they were due. sarcastic & rude. Expects us to take him for orgo i will 100% avoid
Crumpler is rude to students. He hardly teaches. My class was a solid month behind every other CHM 2025 class so by the time finals came around he rushed through the last chapters. He uses premade slides that he doesn't like and hardly teaches. I would avoid him at all cost.
Only taught up to chapter 7 out of 11 when the final is on all 11 chapters, and didn't mention until the week before finals. Emailed regarding a technical issue with one of my exams which cost me my grade and never responded, but told others who experienced the same thing 'too bad'. Assigns homework without saying announcing it, not on dashboard.
I think Mr. Crumpler wants to be a good professor but just isn't. He makes many promises such as extra credit, looking over issues, releasing study resources, etc. However, many of these promises are never acted upon or take too long. My class barely got through 75% of the content and even then much of the learning was rushed and incomplete.
Unbelievable how bad his communication is. Doesn't update or send notifications out about exams, drops crucial information last minute, and we're behind by 4 chapters. Maybe this was just an off semester, but we wouldn't know because he doesn't communicate. I'm sure he would be a good teacher and all, but I never got the chance to see.
worst teacher i've ever had in my entire 21 years of life. extremely disorganized, uncommunicative, and unhelpful. do not expect to know anything about what's going on in class. do expect to teach urself literally everything. do expect to figure out dates/grading ON UR OWN since he doesn't wanna announce anything or post anything helpful. wasted $$
This was by far my worst college class I have ever taken, we were behind 4 chapters by the end of the year. Our final exam was 11 chapters but he only covered 7-8ish. I highly recommend UCF to find literally anyone else to teach this class, YOU WILL HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF EVERYTHING, so enjoy having your semester ruined. 0/5 professor.
Avoid this prof at all costs, wait another semester if you have to. Lectures are mind-numbing and attendance is mandatory. Takes forever to grade. Provides no study guide for final he doesn't even make, and is not like any other exam. He's rude when you ask questions and takes forever to answer emails. Theres more, but can't fit it all in 1 review.
Professor Crumpler has to be the worst teacher I have had at UCF. His class was so unorganized. He did not finish teaching all of the content, yet gave the ACS exam as a final. He did not mention that was going to be the final until a week before. Left us 4 chapter to study by ourselves in a weeks time. Take someone else if possible.
Not a good professor whatsoever. Assigned and graded hw without telling us, sporadically canceled lectures, horrible communication, left us all unprepared for the final which was ch 1-11, yet we were only taught 1-7. Attendance is graded but lectures are hard to learn from.Extremely rude to students and never responds to emails. Avoid if you can.
Nice guy but as a professor don't expect to be prepared for other chem courses. He gets distracted and does not have a teaching plan. He tells us 1 week prior we have to take a ASC mandated exam without covering 5 chapters of material. I had to teach myself the rest of the course. I wanted to like him, but this is unacceptable.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had, and I am in my senior year. I wish he were more thorough; everything was brushed past. Chemistry is a complicated subject, and he made it more challenging. Also, I wish there were more CHM class options idk what was up with that, but this was my only choice.
Many students would check in, then immediately walk out because staying was pointless. Grades are almost entirely from exams you are never prepared for, the content on the final wasn't even taught. This class is partnered with a lab and was never paced properly so the few assignments that weren't exams were nearly impossible to get a good grade on.
SO disorganized. Gave us 1 of 10 planned quizzes, chaotic exams, kept contradicting the syllabus. Has a fluidic schedule where he randomly posts assignments and often without warning. Will say he will give assignments then won't. Very rude and disrespectful to students. Bad lectures. Cancelled many lectures and would tell us watch 10 hrs of videos.
Very unorganized and unprofessional. Skipped multiple chapters and over half the slides in class saying "you should know this." Bounced between multiple PPTs and would say smth was wrong on a slide then not clarify why. Only gave one EC assignment. 6% of our grade was 1 quiz (supposed to be 10). Did not learn anything from him. Would avoid!
Besides all of the complaints I personally played clash of clans in class an got an A. As long as you came with the intention to learn you will. This course is hard, but easier with this professors amazing lectures. There is a lot of extra credit opportunities presented to the class and practice exams to help big time with upcoming exams (4+final)
Everyone here is mad for no reason. The exams were easy, and I don't consider myself a "genius person." The people who failed didn't put any effort at all. All you need to do is complete the practice questions from the book or "Pearson exam prep," and you will be fine.
I like Dr. Crumpler as a person quite a bit. He's funny and can be quite charming. I'm not sure what happened this semester but did not make it through all the material we were supposed to. Maybe there was something going on his life, but he failed to prepare us for our final. We missed 2 chapters. I believe I'll pass with B/B+ but this wasn't good
Worst professor I've taken in my 7 years in higher education. Disorganized, sarcastic, uncaring, unclear grading criteria, mandatory attendance to lectures that don't help, didn't get through 25% of the class content but it was still on the final, went back on his word multiple times, changed syllabus info without announcements, and more.
He is extremely unorganized with his modules, His lectures are not good. The first two exams were only on ch.1,2,& 3. as we barely learned anything. The final was in a diff format and had content that we did NOT learn. the final dropped me from an A to a B-. Has an attitude. Would not recommend.
Honestly, Crumpler's a funny & cool person, but if you wanna learn something, it really won't be from his class. Extremely disorganized & grades last minute. Gives extra credit. Attendance is mandatory. Pay attention to the practice exams (exams are based on the same questions!). Prepare for a lot of self-teaching. Exams are harder than lectures
Promised quizzes, assignments, and a final review that he never uploaded. Took forever to upload test grades and was very rude to students asking questions. Did not teach 2 of the chapters on the ACS final and quickly went over 2 others that were included on the test making it hard to understand. Overall he was very unorganized and unprepared.
Professor made this class more difficult than it needed to be. The syllabus had no real structure. There was little to no communication. Practice exams were posted right before exam. Prof was often rude/sarcastic to students. Contradicts the textbook and slides he uses. We only took 1 quiz (it was meant to be 10). Would not recommend.
He was by far the worst professor I have experienced. Assignments would be posted with no warning so people would get zeros for assignments. Attendance is mandatory but they were not helpful I found myself teaching myself. If you have him as a professor be prepared to use a lot of Khan Academy and the organic chemistry teacher.
Wrong grades to everyone, no answers to emails, do not teach well. No words to describe, do not take it.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR This is coming from someone who tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and got As on all exams. He does not teach well. He has no respect for students and makes you feel dumb when asking a question. He does not communicate anything and will leave you wondering many things about the course and your grade.
Sarcastic professor. Limited/IMPOSSIBLE communication. Did not cover the whole curriculum. Uneven curve. Some people got the grade corrected and others not. The class was not supposed to be as difficult as he made. If you love your live and your sanity, do not take it. I am sick of so much stress that this class caused me.
Lack of communication made the class extremely difficult. Responses to questions were rude and made students feel dumb. Gave us a final exam with 4 chapters that we never got to learn, because he was so behind. Syllabus was wrong and grades were finalized at the very last minute. Take chem with any other professor if you want to do well.
avoid this professor at all costs. began the semester with no office hours and refused to answer emails. his lectures were pointless most of the time because he would skip major portions and claim
These other reviews just yap and complain. If they put in minimal effort and went over the practice exams like three times they could have averaged 85s on the exams. I went to every lecture and played retro bowl or napped the entire time and still had ease with the exams.
Great professor for Orgo. Do the practice exams and pay attention in class and getting a B is easy.
Though the class was really disorganized and we didn't learn half the stuff on the final, Crumpler did give a lot of EC in the end, a curve for the final, and boosted our grades to half a letter grade. Honestly, he's not that bad. Most of his tests were not too difficult, and if you regularly check Mastering Chem, you won't miss the HW.
Sarcastic at first but then toned down. Use all the resources available. Stay in lecture. Class overall is not hard to pass.
If you like empty promises and a professor who is full of sarcasm and negligence take him! I should have gotten an A but he lied about adding extra credit to one of our exams and stressed us out the entire semester. He needs to be fired he is an awful teacher and the only reason we passed was because the exams were similar or the same as the review
Professor Crumpler is ridiculous, lied to everyone about extra credit which we did and turned in but was never applied. He told us to dress up for Halloween and we'd get extra credit five points for that which he also never applied. He didn't reply to anyone and submitted the grades before even fixing anything.Beware of false promises!!!!!
Dr. Crumpler was an amazing professor. I can understand how he can be seen as sarcastic at first but the guy is genuinely funny and cares. Tests were really easy if you just attended TA reviews and did practice exams. 90% of the people who did poorly consistently skipped lecture and didnt try. Gave plenty of EC and curved the final grade a ton.
Syllabus changed so many times that expectations were unclear. He is sarcastic, does not teach well, and never responds to emails. Tests were fair as long as you studied and utilized the TA lectures. However, the overall class structure lead to unnecessary stress. He did not finish "teaching "the chapters setting us up to failure for the final exam
This professor was so difficult to deal with, his lectures were just powerpoints and he constantly went off-topic and would go on random tangents for over 10 minutes. He is also very sarcastic with students and would refuse to answer questions that students should just "know the answers to". I wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone.
Wasn't able to get through all of course content and missed the last 3-4 chapters which left most unready for the final and future chemistry courses. Very unorganized. It was clear that this class was not his priority and students suffered because of that. Material isn't difficult but 100+ slides in presentations made it seem worse.
If you can avoid him, do yourself the favor. The most disorganized professor I've ever had. He doesn't explain himself and he's awful at answering questions. He won't post things like exam reviews on time and you'll only have like 2 days to do it. I will never know peace after taking this class. If you're naturally good at chem, you should be ok.
Got an A, because I was reading book before class. Attendance is required. He has office hours and is very open if students bring up specific questions. Will poke fun at students if they ask particular questions so one needs thick skin. Says whats on exam. Extra credit brings up test grades, 15 pts on extra credit means 15 pts to exam grade.
Half these people that rated Crumper low didn't trust the process... Just stick it through he comes in clutch trust me. This is coming from someone that's lowest test grade was a 6% lol. He's way better than Lawrence, although he lacks communication but that's just how he is. he's funny tho. Love Crumpler
Professor Crumpler = disorganized & poor time management; being 4 chapters behind with the final being in 4 days. He can be sarcastic and rude; it's funny when directed at others. He teaches well, offers easy exams, somewhat good study guides. What I disliked the most was the ACS final. The textbook was helpful but be prepared if you take him.
1. Trash lecturer 2. Unresponsive to emails 3. I am writing this as a student in Orgo II. I've taken 2 exams, 44 questions in total. He's given us maybe 5 questions total across both tests that are about topics taught in Orgo II. He is awful at all aspects of being a professor, and he has lost the class as well. Avoid at all costs.
Would not suggest taking him for this course (or possibly others) if you have a choice. His exams focus barely on anything we recently learned and all on stuff we learned in CHM 2210. He gives some extra credit (especially when everyone does bad on the exams), but it is not enough to compensate. He also isn't the best lecturer.
The Orgo II experience was a complete dumpster fire. Not only was every exam cumulative from BOTH Orgo 1 & II but most of the content was tested on Orgo I, so for every exam you'd have to study everything because he wont tell you what chapters specifically will be on the exam. He also talks during exams and is a very rude lecturer.
Crumplers the best. I was scared to take orgo, but he made it easy to understand. Puts grades in late, but he's helpful & has no TA's. BE PATIENT. I cried so many times during this class and he encouraged me to keep trying. Attendance is mandatory. Exams are cumulative. Pls take him before he retires cause I doubt you wont find anyone like him lol
Be prepared to teach yourself. He was behind the entire semester on material. The chapters on the exam never matched the course schedule. We ended the semester being multiple chapters behind than what we were supposed to get through. Attendance is necessary. Tests were semi-easy, but we were not prepared for the ACSM final.
Genuinely the most unorganized class I have ever been in. He doesn't post the hw/quizzes on time, the tests are worth 60% and cumulative ACS like final worth 20%. He is all over with his mandatory lecs with no structure at all. No one is learning anything in this class. PLSSS avoid. He is also kinda rude and uncaring. Idk why he is teaching :(
Exams sucked (60%)! First two were ok the third online exam was all over the place with questions that was orgo 2 material. Fourth was in person and not a single question on the exam was anything like the practice exams he gave us, so do not rely on them to study. Final was the same as well no practice exam Qs(20%). No quizzes either so exam heavy.
Professor Crumpler I think was my worst professor here at UCF and I'm about 4 semesters deep into my degree. I find his humor during lecture to be dry and rude, and is a terrible lecturer so you will need to teach this entire class yourself. And let me just say organic chemistry is not something you wanna teach yourself nor do I think it's possible
Take literally anyone else. Take Lawrence over Crumpler. Dont care what anyone says. Lawrence was the only reason I passed orgo 1 and I should've taken him for orgo 2.
Eric Crumpler is a very knowledgeable person about chrm
Professor Crumpler is too smart for his own good. He really does want to teach his students and make sure you pass his class, he offers lots of homework and quiz assignments to get a good grade on. He is a smartass, so if you can't handle his attitude don't take him. Otherwise he is brilliant and I thought he was a good professor.
LAZY!! Does not grade on time whatsoever. Took the final without a grade for the 4th exam. Made mistakes grading the 2nd exam and has not fixed them. Does not claim accountability for mistakes. Cancels class but does not record lectures.
Not much to say, but the tests were some what difficult.
Lectures where confusing and all over the place and they are mandatory. Majority of grade comes from 5 exams, 2 online and 3 in-person exams. Did provide some extra credit which is worth 20 exam grade points and extra 10 points .Went into the final without knowing what my grade was for the 4th exam. Not a horrible prof just a very difficult class.
Do not take him. The only reason myself and majority of the class passed was from his curves. We had 4 total exams and a final. The 4th exam was not graded before we took the final. In person exam averages were between 45-30%. He only reads the slides that he posts online in class verbatim and does not teach, but attendance was mandatory. AVOID.
Didn't write any of the exams which were cumulative of org 1 & 2. Two were given online through wiley so make sure you know every bit of the textbook from orgo 1 and 2. One exam was graded wrong and never corrected. The wiley synthesis software is buggy, practice it before the exam. Practice exams are completely irrelevant to the tests.
Worst professor to take for organic chem. Lazy with grading due to not posting any grades until 2-3 weeks later. Second semester at UCF where the final grades were posted without them being accurate. In-class lectures are pointless, just reads from slides yet attendance is mandatory. Lecture-wise, Paul Lawerence was better.
AVOID. This professor lacks the ability to properly teach and all exams are cumulative with Orgo 1 + Orgo 2. Unclear grading criteria, doesn't follow syllabus and condescending in class. I have learned absolutely nothing from this course, if you are pursuing classes that require a strong understanding of Orgo, this class will fail you.
The worst class I've taken at UCF so far. Syllabus was never updated and unclear, exams make up 60% of your grade. Lecture was mandatory but he read from slides. Third exam had Orgo II stuff we weren't taught. Wiley was okay but buggy. VERY slow with grading, we didn't know our exam 4 grades until after the final. I barely learned anything. AVOID!
terrible professor. run. you will learn nothing. the syllabus said he would replace your lowest grade with your final if you did better on the final and guess what he didn't. I had to get the dean involved for him to even change that part and it still has to be processed via a grade change to show up properly in myUCF. Trust, don't take him.
took forever to grade, grades still not final after semester ended. 2 online exams 3 in person exams last exam (final) is 70 questions.
I could write more words than allotted in this review to describe how anxiety-inducing this professor was. To put it simply, he would jump back and forth between multiple PowerPoint slides in class, making note-taking nearly impossible. To make the excessively disorganized lectures worse, they were all mandatory. Final grades were also weeks late.
VERY disorganized lectures. Hard to take notes because he does not explain things well and jumps between slides a lot. Needs a lot of outside work. Avoid if you can.
Wow. Hands down the worst professor I have taken. "Teaches" material that he does not test on. 2 online exams with computer programming that will not be explained prior. 2 written tests are a mess, class average 40. Will make you feel stupid for asking any question and is blatantly disrespectful. Breaks his own syllabus. Should not be teaching.
Most of grade came from 4 tests and the final. Wiley homework is all in the back of the book so find those answers, but avoid this professor if possible. He is not worth your time and mostly doesn't understand the basics of organic chemistry. Do not under any circumstances take this professor.
Crumpler really is as bad as these reviews say. He has horrible, mandatory lectures that are difficult to follow and take notes on. He does not communicate with his students and puts homework out way late. On top of the disorganization in the class, grades were due May 3 and he just now entered the final grades into the gradebook (May 16). AVOID.
No organization. Didn't have a schedule all semester. First exams were on nothing we learned. Took a long time to grade exams, homework is autogenerated and questions you on topics Crumpler says is insignificant. You won't learn in his class, and can be a little rude when students ask questions.
Do not take this professor!!!! Not organized, lies about what's on exams, lectures are all over the place, expects you to know everything from day one. He is very rude and does not prepare you for anything. Drops quizzes and homework randomly, and he is VERY UNFAIR.
Condescending professor, wasted (mandatory!!) lectures with frequent sarcasm towards student questions and reviewing slide material word for word. Frequently repeated material and multiple chapters had to be learned on our own. Called female students dear when answering questions which was weird?? didn't release grades until 3 wks after finals
lol git good, his class was fun
Worst Professor I've ever taken. 0 organization, the whole class is "fluidic" The exams were all orgo 1 final material, but he lectured on orgo 2. Didn't get grades properly input until 1 week after grades were due (had to specially submit for each student) Will not respond to email/ canvas questions ever. AVOID, I wish I could go back in time.
This is a difficult class no matter what professor you have but if you're going to have a hard class at least have the class with someone who cares and doesn't belittle his students every single class period. He doesn't really teach just reads off slides. I watched Dr. Lawrence's videos on YouTube to pass.
I agree with reviews saying he can be condescending and seem rude, but his real understanding for the concept and tests that were directly from his homework were what saved me in orgo 1. Getting feedback from him is super helpful, as long as you have thick skin and can take some harsh words. SI leaders in this class were great.
My Opinion: If you DON'T need Orgo 2 and have the discipline to teach yourself the material, take Dr. Crumpler. His tests are not the worst and you can get away with not knowing a lot and still pass the course. If you NEED to take Orgo 2 later on, do not take this professor because you will be behind and have an incomplete understanding of Orgo 1.
I have no understanding of orgo 1 after taking his class. I now will have to teach myself outside of school in order to prepare for orgo 2. If you do take him 2 tests are online, 2 in person, and 1 cumulative final that he writes. If you take him you should watch Paul Lawrences videos as they are easy to understand (orgo is hard either way).
