Danhart made exams unreasonably difficult and if you question anything he will respond with attitude or Im unsure. Although you have to read each chapter to be prepared for all exams, he demands you attend his boring lectures that cover NO material needed for exams so you can do a five point class activity.
Engaging lectures, even though it was at 8am. As long as you go to class and pay attention, and keep up with the material, you will do well. Nice guy and always willing to help out in person or by email.
Tough class, but not too bad if you keep up with homework and stuff. Exams are tough, but there are lots of other points in the class to help your grade.
Loved his class!
Danhart wasn't a bad professor and his exams weren't terribly difficult. If you took AP Bio in high school, this class will be a breeze. Going over lecture slides and in-class TopHat questions will be your most sure-fire way to pass, and honestly his lectures mainly consisted of him reading the PowerPoint slides so attendance isn't that important.
He likes to use in class activities and Tophat questions. (the attendance is the questions not actual attendance). The activities worked better than I though they would for a lecture size of 500. He is a solid choice for introductory biology. You have to work for an A but a C should be achievable with minimal work.
Professor Danhart was such a great professor. He likes using Tophat and in-class activities to help with your grade and also to see who does attend, but attendance isn't a mandatory thing. Just a fair warning if you skip this class, you will have a tough time passing exams because he makes his exams a little tougher in order to test your knowledge.
I took Biochem 5621 with Danhart. Although I struggled through the class, he made it worthwhile. His lectures are comprehensive and he cares about his students. If i had any other professor for this class, I would've given up immediately.
Dr. Danhart really cares about his students. He gives numerous other point opportunities to better your grade if you're not a good exam taker. Overall, just go to class and you will do fine.
Super nice guy and professor, cares about your grade and wants you to learn (definitely isnt a I teach for an hour so I can pay for my research kind of guy). The textbook is nice but not necessary to get an A. His slides are an amazing study tool, though they can be a little unclear at times. Responds to emails quickly and very willing to help.
Pre-lecture assignments over readings before every lecture. In-class activities every day for attendance. Very nice guy but lectures were confusing and easy to lose focus. A lot of outside reading necessary to understand the material, and you pretty much have to teach yourself. However, tests not weighted super heavy, therefor room for error!
Dr. Danhart is a nice guy, but his class was not set up in a great way. Pre-lecture assignments were not helpful at all when preparing for lectures or midterms. His exams proved to be very difficult, even after going through all of the material. His powerpoints and lecture recordings are online, but in-class activity points and TopHat do matter!
Lectures have TopHat questions throughout for credit. It's not hard to do well. No homework except online prelectures and no textbook use. He taught the first half of the class but it was definitely the better half. Very clear in his lectures, fair on exams, helpful with questions. Genuinely cares about his students. Would definitely take again.
Danhart is a solid professor who cares about his students' success. His exams are incredibly straightforward and although you have to put in work, you can be successful as long as you thoroughly study his lecture notes. Lots of opportunities for points besides exams. Great at responding to emails and meeting outside of class to offer help.
Danhart is a great professor. He cares about his students and if they do well, and hes always willing to help/meet with you outside of class to answer questions. He does in class TopHat questions that seem tedious, but theyre super helpful for review. I recommend reading the book sections before and after lectures. Easy A if you put in the work.
Dr. Danhart seems to be a very nice guy and is a pretty good teacher. Says class isn't mandatory, but there are graded TopHats and in-class activities. Some of the lectures are hard to follow, but reviewing through them afterwards does help. Overall, not a bad choice for a professor.
I highly recommend taking him for biology. He is very straight forward. You need to attend lecture to get in class activity and top hat points which are capped so most people get 100%. His tests are directly from his slides but you DEFINITELY need to read. Reading topics he lectures on get you an easy A as long as you do your homework and show up.
So Danhart is a nice enough guy, but I struggle with the very fine details of the cell, which is what 1113 is. So I found his tests very difficult, and I worked really hard for my grade. Independent of that, he answers emails quick and is overall okay. Go to class though, we did tons of TopHat that really helped my grade and helped me study.
Great class, lectures clear and at steady pace, recorded so you can rewatch later for review. Online study materials through Pearson/Mastering were helpful but honestly if you pay attention in lecture and ask questions in recitation you'll be fine. Labs didn't always line up with covered lecture material, but were covered well in Lab manual.
Sometimes staying awake during his lectures was tough. It may be because it was at 9:10AM, but his slideshows can sometimes be lengthy and arduous to endure. Nonetheless, Danhart is a great professor who knows how to teach biology and truly cares about his students' success. He also has a sense of humor that displays his love toward teaching.
Danhart makes it really clear what he expects for students to know for tests in his slides. TopHat points and in-class activities give several opportunities to make up points if you don't do great on the tests. He is super genuine, subtly funny, and cares about his students a lot, even in a giant lecture hall setting
Dr. Danhart is overall a good professor. His exams are based on his lecture notes, however the exams go a lot more in depth than the lecture notes so I would recommend watching a lot of videos outside of class or going to his office hours. The grading and weight of assignments in this class is very fair.
Very good instructor. Lectures were always pretty interesting and grading was pretty lenient - most of the points were very easy to earn. Exams were super straightforward (but he expects you to know all the details he gives in lecture). Very nice guy.
Dr. Danhart is a very straight-forward professor and keeps his slides simple and "to the point". This class has a reasonable amount of mastering/homework outside of class. There are also in-class activities and Tophat, so you earn points by doing those, but he usually offers more point opportunities than needed, so you can miss a few.
My mistake was not doing the online Mastering Bio before lectures. Other than that, an easy A. Exams are pretty straight forward, but do require you to know the material well. In-class activities used a lot and at random times, so its in your best interest to attend class. Lectures could be boring, but Danhart was good at conveying the information
Dr. Danhart was a great professor. You could really reach out to him at any time that you need any assistance and he would be there to help you. I will admit that there was a lot of material covered in every lecture and the exams were a bit difficult. Thankfully, the class is structured in a way that failing an exam won't mean failing the class.
Super straightforward. If you look at the learning outcomes and study the things written well, you will get an A.
Class can be challenging but they make it easy to do well if you put in the work. Overall amazing teacher and very accessible. Always answered emails and questions in class. Make lab a great experience!
Really cares about his students and his lectures are genuinely entertaining. Covers a lot of material in lecture but it flows well. Requires you to apply a lot of material for quizzes, but this is all to aid in mcat prep.
Danhart did his best to make the material easy for everyone. The exams were fair, but definitely have to study a good amount for them. Overall, not a bad class.
He doesn't give busy work. There's not much homework but it actually helps you learn. Textbook is a good tool, but not necessary. Dr. Danhart likes to make his lectures interesting, and they're not mandatory. He's a fair grader and is willing to help outside of class.
Dr. Danhart was one of the professors for this biochemistry lab. Although he wasn't my specifc professor, I always went to him for questions on the lab reports, homework, etc. He would answer so quickly and helped me a ton with confusion about questions/topics. He always implemented jokes into his emails which helped lighten the mood!
I absolutely loved Dr. Danhart. He is such a helpful, down to earth guy. He was willing to meet with me outside of office hours numerous times, too. Lectures are not mandatory, but TopHat points add up so be careful! The textbook itself wasn't a necessity, but very helpful as he teaches to the book curriculum.
Dr. Danhart is one of the best professors Ive ever had. He is an amazing teacher and sets you up for success. Hes a great lecturer and answers any questions that you have in a way that is easy to understand. He will make sure that you can do well on the tests just by listening to the lectures. I would have Dr. Danhart again if I could.
Danhart is a very good Biology professor. The class was a little difficult online however he was very accessible outside of class so it seemed to be fine. The Lab portion of this class seemed very disconnected from the lecture. But there isn't much that can be done about that with the online stuff at the moment.
Dr. Danhart was the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are interesting and he does a really wonderful job of explaining concepts instead of just expecting us to memorize facts. An A is definitely possible especially if you listen to lectures, go through learning outcomes, do tophat, and the course engagements.
Dr. Danhart did amazing with the online format and was very accessible outside of class. Any homework or questions he was always more than willing to help in office hours. You can do well in his class as long as you try and are willing to ask for help. He is a very personable professor and teaches an enjoyable class.
I loved Dr. Danhart. By far my best professor this semester. While the stuff he is teaching isn't easy, he does a phenomenal job of explaining it. He makes it clearer than the book. He's funny, easy to reach out to, and very kind. A great professor, especially for kids right out of highschool. He makes you work, but it won't useless. I love his dog
Dr. Danhart is hands down one of my favorite professors at OSU. He is friendly, kind, and extremely knowledgeable, but never makes you feel humiliated for asking a question or not knowing how to approach something. He consistently made himself available outside of class times to provide personalized help, and you can tell he really cares about you.
Exams are very difficult. Overall helpful, will go into way more detail on biochem than necessary. Recitations with him are very chill.
If you are a non science major trying to get GEs done, don't take this class. It's bad and Dr. Danhart definitely does not have the patience to explain the material to you. And in COVID years, the labs are basically ONLINE and AWFUL. My advice is drop the class if you don't have the pre-reqs or even the time to learn the material
Hes a really funny guy and he does his job very well. He explains things very thoroughly and you will learn a lot if you are willing to put in the time. He is a great prof to have straight out of high school, but he does have high expectations though.
Dr. Danhart is a great professor, he explains materials and information very thoroughly. He takes his time to make sure you understand the material. He is also very funny, relatable and considerate of the students. The lecture was online but that labs were in person and they great as well. Tests aren't necessarily easy but that's biology.
Dr. Danhart was a great professor! He was very caring and made lectures interesting. He would occasionally crack some jokes, which made class not always feel so serious. The content is moderately difficult though, so make sure to study VERY far in advance.
Dr. Danhart was a great professor but was very difficult with the exams. He is a 50/50 professor in learning and the difficulty level.
Great prof. He's funny and kind. He teaches well and tries to make sure you understand everything. He also lets you choose songs and makes a playlist for the beginning of class! He cracks a lot of jokes which helps with engagement and is very interactive with his students! It's a moderately easy class and very fun if you study and interact w/ prof.
Lots of easy points in this class and exams are pretty straight forward.
BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you attend and rewatch lectures, you'll do fine in the class. It's really easy to improve your study habits over time as well. Dr. Danhart does a great job at describing difficult concepts. Additionally, there a lot of "easy" grades and room for improvement
Dr. Danhart could not have been a better professor for this class. He provides plenty of opportunities to practice and is very clear on what he wants you to know (he also gives specific learning outcomes for each lecture). He truly cares about what he teaches and wants to help students succeed. He was by far my favorite professor this semester.
Dr. Danhart was an amazing professor. I have never really "understood" biology until after completing this course. He was such a fun guy to listen to during lectures and was super good at explaining topics. There was a fair amount of homework, but never overwhelming. As long as you pay attention during lectures, you should do pretty well
I personally loved Dr. Danhart. He was a very solid professor; however, I felt sometimes the questions he asked on the exams were pretty hard. I by all means could have given more effort, but I was taking ochem at the same time. If you study and practice a lot you will do well. The lab portion sucked and made me HATE life. It was very pointless.
Dropped my grade on the last day for no reason. Went from a B+ to a C+
Hes so bad I wanted to give him a zero but thats not possible so I give him a 1.
His class is hard but if you figure out how to study early on for exams you'll be completely fine. He's a super nice guy who knows what he is talking about during lectures. He also encourages you to go to office hours and emails back pretty quickly. It's clear that he cares about his students. If you can take him for bio I would recommend it.
Dr. Danhart is an amazing professor to say the least. Having him straight out of high school is a great transition into college. This course has many available points, but you have to do well on the exams if you want to get a good grade. Also, go to lecture or you will be very confused
Dr. Danhart is a very good professor who explains difficult concepts well. He gives a lot of easy or free points throughout the semester, which makes up for the slightly difficult exams. Provides good practice problems before exams. If you attend lectures and study you will be fine.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Danharts lectures, even on zoom. His slides were concise, organized, and easy to understand. He was very accessible outside of class and his office hours were very helpful. I loved this class and would definitely recommend!!
Dr. Danhart was a cool professor! I had him for an online/in-person lab hybrid kind of class. His lectures were not boring and fun to listen to. I was kinda lazy and didnt attend class all the time but make sure you do. The tests can be difficult but studying ahead of time helps lots. I recommend Bozeman Science videos as supplemental videos.
Dr. Danhart is a real gem despite the mixed reviews people have about him. He's extremely structured and has a clear cut agenda for his students to succeed in. Also TA was extremely nice and easygoing. All in all this is a science course so expect to see many application and analysis questions on exams.
The only way to get a good grade in his class is to laugh at his jokes and to try to get his attention in the zoom chat. The class was horrid along with the TA's who are awkward and are confused half of the time during lab. Class was bound to make you fail unless you spend all of your effort studying solely for his class. The worst professor ever.
Dr. Danhart is an amazing professor. Hes kind, chill, and actually cares about the students. The exams are not hard, and the tophat questions are good tools for review. I had him as a lab instructor also and hes even better in person.
He’s the best! His class is pretty average difficulty wise like the average for most tests is about 75%. But he writes all his own tests and the final isn’t cumulative. Attendance to lab is mandatory and lectures have tophats so they’re kind of mandatory.
He wears polo shirts on top of his polo shirts is really funny and has this cool plant named Phil. An impeccable lecturer gives detailed notes and tells you exactly what’s on the test. Read the text book as supplementary material and study and you will do well
Awesome professor. The absolute best and really cares about his students. His lectures are interesting and his tests are fair.
You are probably on here to see if this professor is horrible... wrong place. Dr. Danhart is a GOD. He is the best professor you will ever have and he truly cares about his students and their success. Do not take anyone else. He is the best at OSU!
dr. danhart was amazing. have him currently and his use of discord is super cool and very immersive. he was responding to students mid hospital when his baby was being born!!!
I used to think that I was really bad at bio but taking it with Dr. Danhart changed my whole thought process and I actually enjoy bio now.
Try to get him as your professor if you can! Down to earth young professor who really wants his students to succeed
Danhart is an awesome professor. Makes himself very accessible to students. The exams are based pretty much on the lectures, study the learning outcomes and vocab you will do great in this class. He cares a lot about his students and wants them to succeed. He simplifies everything. Highly recommend if you plan on taking bio 1113. Very funny too!
AMAZING PROFESSOR so helpful in and out of class, what he expects out of you is super clear. He says he only tests whats on the slides and its true. It's bio so theres a level of difficulty but it's entirely doable and having Dr D makes it so much better. Attend the lectures, read the textbook if you're confused, and ask for help if you need it
I would recommend taking any class by him because he is such a great professor. He truly cares about his students and its easy to meet outside of class. Make sure to do tophat questions during lecture, they will definitely help your grade and are good review. His lectures move fast but are recorded so you can go back and review missed material.
Dr. Danhart is a great professor. The class is structured well, and grading criteria is clear. Class isn't mandatory however Tophat q's during the lecture are important to answer. There is a lot of content, some easy some hard. The exam q's were also like that. There are nice grade cushions. He's always available to talk, even when becoming a dad.
He is a very tedious grader, but he was amazing. I have nothing but good things to say. He was patient with us, made us do a virus project which was fun and something different. He made sure that we understood everything not only in lab, but lecture as well. He is very understanding, so if you have a problem, he is helpful.
Went too fast in lecture and was often condensing if you didn't understand the content. Did not care to help when seeking advice on how to do better in the class. The class is more difficult than expected if you have not taken a previous biology course.
THIS IS THE BEST MAN ON THE PLANET!!!! TAKE HIM YOU WILL BECOME BESTIES!!! BEST PROFESSOR IN THE WORLD!!
Eric Danhart made me remember why I wanted to be a biochemistry major. He made everything he taught the most interesting thing ever and explained everything beautifully. He also runs a Discord server for the class so if you have a question you can just ask him or a TA.
Dr. Danhurt is amazing. Lectures are easy to understand, he live streams and uploads recordings. Also a very down to earth person in office hours, never condescending.
For as much as I dont like biology, this class was surprisingly not that bad, mostly thanks to Dr. D. He genuinely cares about the success of his students and he is very passionate about the material. The class discord server was a great idea, and he was always accessible there. Overall, great professor who you should try to get if possible.
Dr. Danhart did a great job at communicating the lecture material as well as caring for students. Although the course was set up in a manner similar to a death of a million paper cuts (SO MANY POINTS) and the labs were at time unbearable, I found myself enjoying the lecture. If you're more into plant bio, this class in your alley.
Dr. Danhart did a great job at communicating the lecture material as well as caring for students. Although the course was set up with too many points and the labs were at time unbearable, I found myself enjoying the lecture. I did not enjoy the pre-med scope of the class as well.
Dr. Danhart is a very good professor. Lectures are very helpful and information heavy. His learning outcome based class makes it easy to study and focus in certain things. The labs are a little annoying, but bearable. He also has a class discord server, which is very helpful. Highly sarcastic and humorous.
Dr. Danhart really cares about his students. Personally, I'd say if you have any background of Biology, you will do completely fine in this course. Just make sure you utilize his notes and practice questions when studying for his exam. If you have questions, Dr. D will be more than happy to help you out. Good luck!
This class is manageable if you put the time in. Dr. Danhart is phenomenal! Definitely read the textbook, do not cram for exams (they're hard), and go to lecture - homework and TH points will help your grade in the end! Overall, solid class and great professor. The labs are ridiculously annoying, however.
It is evident that Dr. Danhart prepares for his lectures. The material is quite dense, but he makes it manageable and interesting. You simply have to put in the time and effort to study his lecture notes and you should be able to get an A in the class. The labs are a little annoying, but just make sure you do your best to keep up.
Dr. Danhart is funny and smart. Lectures are over only about 12-20 slides. Always read the Mastering book to get a more in-depth understand. Do the Exam Reviews before the exams. Test are based around the learning outcomes provided. There is a discord server made where one can asks questions and the professor replies instantaneous at anytime.
Amazing Prof. Cares a lot about his students and provides them with all resources necessary to succeed. Love the discord server as my questions were answered within minutes by him or a TA. Labs sucked, but that was because my TA sucked. I would have had a better grade were it not for my lab group and my TA. Try for a TA that cares about their job!
Dr. Danhart is one of the best professors at osu and I highly recommend taking him. The class is difficult but he is extremely helpful and accessible through discord. When studying I recommend looking over the application questions, learning objectives, and tophat questions (his form of attendance). I loved this class and am going to miss it!
Good Class all around, and Dr. Danhart is an excellent lecturer.
Awesome.
Great class and great teacher. He is always available to answer questions and his lectures were so helpful.
Dr. Danhart is a great professor who really cares about his students. He is very accessible outside of class. This class is difficult and it covers a lot of content but he is a good lecturer. You definitely need to put in a lot of time studying in order to do well. The labs are often annoying, but your lab grade is very dependent on your TA.
Dr. Danhart loves his to use tophat in class for every lecture, but honestly as long as you pay attention to the lecture you'll be fine. The midterms are also kinda easy because they are exactly like the tophats.
This class wasn't super hard but be prepared to study a fair amount for the exams. Danhart has specific learning outcomes that are perfect to study with because he makes the exams off those. Over 1000 points in the class so not horribly test heavy. I recommend going to lectures because he gives a lot more detail that the slides don't have.
Dr. D is an amazing professor. 420 out of the 1000 points come from exams. To get an A, all you need to do is rewatch old lectures and be able to answer each of the learning outcomes. The labs are harder than what we learn in class. Dr. D is a good teacher and one of the best professors at OSU - he explains the 'why' behind everything!
If you can get Dr. Danhart for Bio 1113, PLEASE take his class. He explains things in the same amount of detail as he expects you to know for exams, and often provides mnemonic devices to help remember more of the difficult stuff. If you go to his office hours, he will like you and help you a lot with homework/projects/lab work/studying etc.
Absolutely amazing professor. Knows how to teach and explains everything in great detail. This class is not an easy A, be prepared to study. If you follow the learning objectives you will be fine. Has lots of Tophat and HW points so take advantage. Lab is very dependent on your TA. Enjoy him while you can because he is one of the best at OSU.
Dr. Danhart is a great lecturer. However, his tests are a little harder than other bio 1113 teachers. However, I think this is offset by the quality of his explanations. Definitely would recommend.
Dr. Danhart is such a gem! He genuinely cares about his students and is very kind and approachable. Exams were a bit difficult because there's a lot of memorization but he did his best to make lectures straightforward and not overwhelming. Labs were long but not challenging. I wish he'd teach every biology class I took.
Dr. Danhart is a really great prof. I am not good at biology, but going to his office hours helped me so much. The class is definitely a lot of studying and not a lot of homework assignments, but there are a good amount of extra credit opportunities to get your grade up. The class is weighted heavily on the 3 exams throughout the semester.
I've taken 2 classes now with Dr. Danhart and i have no complaints at all.
I love Dr. Danhart. He is clearly passionate about biology and provides an in-depth understanding of basic biology. He includes TopHat questions in his lectures and talks through the slides more thoroughly in class but he provided a Zoom option and recorded his lectures. The exams can be difficult but he provides enough resources to preform well.
Take Dr. Danhart's class! He is probably the best professor for biology by far! Some topics may be confusing but he does a great job explaining them. The difficulty of the lab is really based off of which TA you get. But I wouldn't say his exams are super difficult if you know how to study. Find a rhythm and go over the application questions!
His exams are kinda tough, you really have to have a good understanding of the material. He did a good job of explaining everything, and there was never an exam that had stuff that we didn't cover.
The class is pretty easy overall and there were plenty of assignments throughout the semester. He provides learning outcomes for each chapter in his slides which directly correlate to what will be on the exams. Labs were confusing at times, not necessarily his fault but more of the TA I had.
Lectures have Tophats but are accessible through Zoom. He's decent at explaining concepts and if you know the slides and application questions well then you're set. Nice and funny guy. Most exam are 80% MC with a few short responses. Overall, easy class with a good professor.
Professor Danhart is amazing. Really engaging lectures and clearly cares about his students and their success. His exams are fair and he makes sure you know what study.
Dr.Danhart was a good professor and clearly loves biology. His lectures were a bit dull as he read off of slides in a vaguely monotone voice, but it wasn't bad overall. If you don't have any biology experience (like AP Bio or the intro to bio courses) and take this class, then be prepared to play catch-up. Overall an A is achievable with effort.
Dr. Danhart was a great Bio 1113 professor! Would defiantly recommend him.
Dr. Danhart is an engaging lecturer who makes complex topics understandable. Exams require solid preparation, but his teaching style and helpful resources like unstuckstudy make the class manageable. Definitely worth taking if you're interested in biology.
Dr. Danhart was really clear on how to succeed in his course, if you follow the learning outcomes you should be good. However, his exams were very difficult compared to other bio 1113 instructors.
Dr. Danhart is a great dude. His midterms are brutal, but he gives plenty of opportunities to raise your grade through other assignments. You can tell he loves what he teaches and is overall very genuine. His streams his lectures on Zoom and posts them, and he also emphasizes his office hours.
Exams were extremely difficult compared to other Bio 1113 sections. Lectures were so boring and he reads directly off the slides.
Danhart was great for Bio. He explains things well and is super helpful in office hours. Covers maybe 15-20 slides per hour lecture and does plenty of tophat questions to break up the lecture time.
Great professor! Lots of points available in the class so one bad exam doesn't kill your grade.
Eric danhart single handedly ruined my gpa. Nice guy but cannot teach the class and it's set up for you to do badly. I got an A- but that was in studying 8 hours a day weeks before exams and still getting B- exams average. His lectures are so vague and the exams look like they're written in spanish. Don't know a single person that got an A.
I studied way too much for this course. His exams were significantly harder than the material on his slides. For an introductory biology course, it felt way too difficult, especially considering how little information was on the slides. He's really sweet and willing to help, but the exams were just harder than they should've been.
Great class great prof. Class is set up well and provides lots of points so one thing won't kill your entire grade. Very quick to respond to email and Teams messages.
Exams were a little on the difficult side for and entry level bio, but Dr. D was always willing to answer questions and explain concepts. It's a large class so be prepared to grow up a bit and learn to seek help because it won't find you.
Professor Danhart was truly so great to have. He cares a lot about his students and is willing to help out. lot. His tests are hard, but not unreasonable. If you attend his lectures he pretty much tells you what will be on the exam.
I really did not like the flipped learning environment, it made the class so much harder than it needed to be. Having to read the long material before class and then do problems in class was so dumb and unhelpful. Lectures were boring, exams were moderate, lec. not recorded. He is a sweetie though and will help out during office hours if needed
No exams- 6 quizzes. Quizzes are very straightforward and he tells you usually what he will and will not ask about. Labs are pretty easy and fun. He is funny and nice and really wants what is best for every student.
