He is a very frustrating professor. He does not give much notice on assignments, however he is an easy grader. This class is super easy. There are hard readings assigned, but you can get away with not reading it.
I was constantly frustrated with him. He doesn't give instructions properly, and he didn't tell us about the due dates for assignments. He's an easy grader but there's alot of work involved.
Pretty easy class. Very nice professor. Lots of assigned readings, but you don't need to do them all to get a good grade. He didn't give much advance notice on due dates, but he wasn't a super tough grader. His papers were easy enough though sometimes hard to make the required length. Tests were SUPER easy (we made them together in class).
This professor made the stories we read interesting. There were 2 papers and 2 tests, and the grading was a little strict.
Dr. Dodson-Robinson is very knowledgeable, and his passion for literature is evident. He did something different with his class almost every time, which made it worth getting there at 8AM. There's not much reading, but there are lots of notes.
He's super helpful in his comments on papers and makes the stories interesting. I'd recommend this class to anyone.
He is one of the University’s best professors, he knows his subject matter and is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. The assignments are all straight forward.
Brilliant and educational without being boring. The readings were often blah, but his explanations made them come alive.
I am not an English major, and this was probably the best W requirement I could have taken. Great knowledgeable teacher. Tons of reading, but if you turn everything in, you can easily make an A.
An awesome teacher! He got really involved with everyone’s project, and was willing to go above and beyond for his students.
Fantastic Professor! Inspires you to challenge yourself.
He really knows what he is talking about and he loves what he does. Speaks with clarity, plays movies in class, and makes sessions fun.
Dodson-robinson is one of my favorite three profs. he's a brilliant professor w/a real love for mythology which made it so clear and so interesting. the readings are demanding but he’s very funny and makes class entertaining.
He is an excellent professor, but you should expect to do a lot of reading (8 plays + articles) and a lot of rewriting (3 drafts of your paper). Classes are interactive. He's always willing to explain anything you didn't understand, and his feedback is super helpful.
very understanding but pushed me just enough to get my paper done when i was stuck, and the work for my other classes too. theres no hiding out in his class. he knows your name; he'll call you out. he has a way of making you feel like you're the most important student, like he's known you for years. he'd do this for anyone, and that is a strength.
Dr. Dodson-Robinson is an extraordinary professor and advisor. He engaged with my ideas in a meaningful way and offered the most illuminating comments I've received during my graduate education. As my advisor, he was honest with me about the challenges I would face; he compelled me to ask myself the difficult questions; he inspired me to succeed.
This was my favorite class this semester! He does a good job of relating the myths to the students and guiding discussions. You can tell he loves to teach.
He is obviously passionate about his subject and extremely knowledgeable. He uses modern day references to make discussions fun. Everyone chooses their own project, and he tells you exactly what you need to revise to make an A.
This is my favorite class this semester, although it is somewhat different from what I expected. The class focused on classical revenge tragedies. He connects the myths with our day and time and makes you think about what the Greek world was like. Everyone is doing presentations during the last part of the semester.
EDR is honestly one of the best professors I've had here at WCU. He gets the information to you in a way that is easy to understand without causing you a lot of stress. It is a W course but required less than 10 pages of writing for the whole semester. You also write your own tests. Love this guy!
Prof. Dodson-Robinson makes class fun and worthwhile, and he cares about your progress. He showed Powerpoints and movie clips during the semester, and we had contests in class to write questions for the tests! The final paper is only five pages. There is a lot of reading during the first part of the semester.
Amazingly GREAT teacher.
Prof. Dodson-Robinson is a phenomenal teacher who really inspires students to think critically and understand more deeply. He changed the way I read and think about literature.
The man's knowledge is amazing to the point of being scary, but he is very approachable. He'll give the most detailed answers to questions and quote an entire passage IN GREEK from memory on the spot, but then explain what every word of it means and how it relates to the class. He loves what he teaches and makes you care about the subject.
Dr. D is my favorite teacher of all time! Respects everyone's viewpoint, wants you to succeed, always makes it interesting.
Awesome professor! I would definitely take again.
Great teacher! Our groups chose films to watch, and he took every discussion to a deeper level without making it boring. He gave tons of great feedback on assignments that made revisions straightforward. This was not a typical writing class. I would definitely recommend it.
Dr. Dodson-Robinson is incredibly knowledgeable, and he inspires you to do your best thinking and writing. I'll never forget performing a scene from Agamemnon for his class in the shadow of the Old Main arch. It was a powerful, awesome experience. His explanations and discussions of the performances and culture made everything we read vivid.
I love Dr. Dodson! He made this class fun and educational. Very compassionate and helpful.
Awesome Professor!
I LOVE Dr. Dodson-Robinson! He is brilliant, fun, funny, and encouraging. I enjoyed the discussions this class had and the ability to let them move in various directions. Unlike my other courses, Dr. Dodson-Robinson actually inspired daily group learning. It was a truly collaborative effort, as opposed to professors full of "sound and fury."
Simply put, Dodson-Robinson is a great professor. This is the best class I could have taken for humanities requirement.
Inspired me to become a literature major. The lessons and discussions about the Odyssey went far beyond what we talked about in high school. Enthusiastic, excited about the material, interested in your ideas.
Very helpful, funny, nice, but will cold call you if you dont participate. The downside - theres a lot of revising, but he is very clear about what he expects.
Professor Dodson-Robin always provoked me to think and connect up the readings with my own experiences and just made everything really clear. Makes you rewrite parts of your papers to get an A, but he spells out exactly what he's looking for. This is a teacher who was encouraging and made me llook forward to every class.
Lots of feedback, extra-credit, films, fun discussions. He is tough on grammar, but lets you revise. REally enjoyed the class!
Expect tons of reading and writing. still HIGHLY recommended!
Made literature interesting to me for the first time ever. He linked the readings to real life and events. I would take this again!
He's an Absolute legend. Readings are basic and his sense of humor is great. Fun and easy going.. Wish I could take more classss with him.
Such a nice guy. He really knows a lot about what he's teaching and is very passionate about it. If you like the subject, you'll do well. If not, the class may be hard. He holds great class discussions and really gets you thinking about the material. But once he starts lecturing, it's be hard to stay awake. He has a very soft, slow, boring voice
This turned into my best class this semester because of the discussions and interaction with the prof. Asks difficult questions, but really respects everbody's views even if he disagrees and makes you rethink it. The films he paired with the myths matched up well to make the ancient Greeks relatable to today.
The classes and readings were difficult sometimes but interesting. It was a good choice for the humanities requirement. The prof is very understanding, but takes the class seriously. The paper at the end is only five pages, but involves alot of work.
This was by FAR my favorite class this semester, and the best professor. The focus of the course was revenge and justice in Greek culture. The professor was really interested in listening to everyone's point of view during discussions. He sent me a huge bibliography of things I had missed and suggestions when I was working on the paper.
Dodson-Robinson listens to student input and takes you seriously in discussions even if you don't agree with his views. You can tell he believes in what he's doing.
Very smart and kind professor good at explaining things. The reading was hard, the papers were hard, only the tests were easy. There was so much extra-credit available if you showed up, which turned out to be a good thing since the book was no help with the stories so you had to come to class to understand them.
Made me love literature again!
Encouraging, brilliant teacher, incredibly kind and patient. Awesome professor!
This is a fun class that made me want to read literature again!
Wonderful teacher with easygoing attitude. He's super at communicating and kind and open to everyones opinion during discussion. Tests were easy if you came t oreview but writing assignments took more time for this class.
Yes tests were easy but writing assignments were WAY too hard for nonhumanities. He is also helpful, very intelligent, but talks abstractedly and uses words I have never heard and had to go to office hours to have him explain everything. Failed first paper and had to revise second paper twice.
The literature for this class was super challenging sometimes, so the discussions were pretty much essential. He emphasized the history and culture alot and had slides and films for every work we read. His help with the paper was very detailed and valuable. If you love reading I would highly recommend it!
Dr. Dodson is a brilliant, very sweet and understanding professor. Thank you so much for teaching such a fantastic and meaningful class.
Great prof! He's serious, but with occasional flashes of humor that catch you by surprise and keep you awake. This class was inspiring for me even though I don't plan on taking any more humanities courses. You can tell he cares about your writing and learning.
Professor Dodson-Robinson is my favorite teacher of the semester hands down. I would definitely recommend his class to anyone!
This was a good class and professor Dodson-Robinson made it enjoyable. His explanations and Powerpoints really brought the stories to life.
I LOVED this class! Dr. Dodson-Robinson is passionate, very intelligent, also very understanding. He is open minded in discussion and doesn't push any agenda but really listens to your point of view and digs deep into the texts. The tests were very easy, and he gives tons of feedback on the major paper before you turn it in.
We watched films (Tempest and Avatar), read literature and wrote most of the papers during class, with examples for everything. Thanks for a great semester!
Thoughtful, super sharp, expects you to think for yourself but makes it interesting. Best prof and one of best classes here.
This was a great class, and I learned a lot about Greek mythology and its modern influences. Most of the grade was the final paper and presentation. We worked on these in groups and with the professor. He was very knowledgeable but understanding of what it's like to be a student.
This is easily one of the most confusing classes I've ever taken. He lectured about three times all semester, and the whole rest of the time was student-led, but no one ever knew what was going on. He seems like an incredibly smart guy, but I'm just so unsure about his teaching. The class is, however, such an easy A.
This class is literally a joke and the easiest class I have ever taken. You have to do a 6-class presentation (super easy) and write a 6-8 page paper but that is literally it seriously take this class with this professor.
This class is akin to a brief jaunt into the Twilight Zone. I'm authentically unsure of his expectations. Far from teaching, his lectures more closely resemble mumbling ambiguous directions, followed by surreal silences. I have not learned a single thing about Greek culture. However, he does seem like a nice person.
The easiest class I have ever taken. The exams are made together in class and an easy 100. Also, the most boring class I have ever taken. There is absolutely no structure to the class. I would have preferred to watch paint dry on the walls. Do not bother buying the textbook, you can find pdf versions of everything online.
awesome class!
I enjoyed the connections of Greek stories to today's and the freedom to choose the final paper topic. All the grades were writing assignments. Feedback was helpful.
His class is super easy but all you do is group work. It gets kind of annoying. Id rather just come in learn and go home. Papers are super easy and the exams are easy As. You dont really need to pay attention. There is in class assignments for points so you have to go. Not a bad class if you need to take this for gen ed.
He seems like a genuinely nice guy, but I don't recommend him as a professor. The class was very disorganized and his grading requirements and expectations were generally unclear. I never really knew what he expected when I turned in an assignment.
Writing assignments were a challenge for me. The class is more about participating in discussing and writing about literature than testing facts. I enjoyed it.
He only taught about ancient civilization the whole semester. Doesn't discuss fundamentals of writing at all. The readings are long and hard to understand. He is very unorganized and doesn't seem to know what he's teaching. Can be uncomfortable but sometimes nice. Only a few papers and not a lot of quizzes. Lectures are long and boring.
Difficult class, especially the writing assignments.
he's annoyingly disorganized, and sounds as if he never taught a class before. I don't have high hopes for this class in general because every time he speaks I cringe; too bad he was "best rated" out of every professor I looked up for this course.
This professor is friendly, but timid & awkard. I honestly dont know what goes through his mind. He is INCREDIBLY unclear on his instructions and wont ever be specific on anything. No rubric for assignments, he doesn't even post the assignment online, bc its all oral so you'll have to go to class.
Very kind professor with tremendous knowledge. This class had readings from different stories of world literature like The Odyssey and Gilgamesh. I mostly enjoyed going to class, even early in the morning. You have time to think about your ideas and work on the assignments in class, and the professor was helpful with everything. I'd recommend it.
This professor took an interest in students from the beginning of the class. We did lots of smaller writing assignments in class, plus papers-a letter, a comparative paper and another essay. The early readings were difficult, but he related the readings to films later in the semester around the problems fo civilization and being human.
Dr. Robinson was the most helpful at the end of the semester with the final papers, when we had time to talk about the readings and get feedback. Before that, the class was more about exploring the literature and writing responses to it. Theother writing assignments are short and very easy if yo u do the practices in class.
I took this for the distributive requirements and wasn't looking forward to it, but Dr Dodson-Robinson made it a relaxed class where you could give your opinion and he made some of the stories seem interesting. I did not like the textbook, but this teacher is worth taking and very helpful with everything.
Terrible professor. He is completely unorganized & no one in the class is able to follow his lectures. He barely discusses the readings & expects you to write lengthy papers on subjects he didn't even touch upon in class. He doesn't provide a rubric for the assignments and won't even post them online. Worst professor, definitely wouldn't recommend
I enjoyed the class (except for the early morning part). He is very thoughtful and willing to help with your ideas. Everything was clear, and there was plenty of time to work on the paper at the end of the semester.
He's not a bad professor, but he's not a good one. He cares about his students, but his lectures are boring and the assignments usually are just as boring. On the other side, he's a nice guy himself.
This was a great class. Very understanding professor during lockdown and transition to online classes.
This was a difficult semester for me, and Professor Dodson let me have an extension so I could finish the work for the class. It meant the difference between an A for the class and no credit. All of his lectures and presentations made the readings understandable.
I appreciated the time this professor took explaining the literature we read. My favorite for the semester was Robert Frost's To Earthward. Professor Dodson helped me understand that poem better, and made it interesting. The grading took a while and I thought the question and answer time got too repetitive most classes, but it was a great class.
Great class! Very knowledgeable professor. Our class read classical epics and wrote about film adaptations of the Greek classics. I read the Odyssey in high school, but I enjoyed getting to go into more depth in this class.
Best professor I have had. Caring heart. Brilliant mind. Classes that are sometimes boring and sometimes amazing.
Professor Dodson is impossible to reach outside of class, he takes forever to grade and the lectures are insanely boring. He's an easy grader, however I received a zero on my last two assignments that I summitted on time but have no clue why because he doesn't respond to emails.
pretty good class, pretty interesting when he would discuss the readings and get into it. It's mostly read, then he talks about the context and history, discussing passages, then writing close reading in class. Two papers - two pages and five pages.
Despite it being an overall easier class, I would say that Professor Dodson is a little socially awkward. Sometimes, he would talk like he didn't know what he was teaching and his instructions for assignments were a little confusing/unclear at times. The majority of assignments are turned in class. Although he was rather boring, he grades easily.
buh buh buh boringgggggg. so sorry to this man but he put absolutely zero effort into making this class interesting. in case you didn't know, his curriculum revolves around books like the odyssey, kebra nagast, don quixote, etc. some of the first books ever written basically. super kind guy, but if you're not into the classics i wouldn't recommend
I would say overall the class is pretty boring. He talks a lot and sometimes it has no relevance to the assignment due. A lot of the time we post on discussion boards because i don't think he knows how to use D2L that well. He grades fairly easy and there aren't that many big assignments but the instructions are very unclear and confusing.
I was very, very bored by this class. Dr. Dodson is a nice guy, but seems nervous in front of a classroom. I did not do the readings and got by fine. If you have to take him to fulfill something, it won't be an extremely difficult time, just boring. He saves all grading til the end so I have no idea what my grade is yet.
I think the professor is very nervous. He does give background/analysis to the historical texts we read, but I wish he would expand on what he knows. You have to go to every class because he sporadically decides to do a discussion board. Easy grader.
Professor Dodson's class is a mixed bag - lectures can be dry, but he genuinely cares and will work with you. Utilize Unstuck AI and the free textbook to stay on top of the heavy reading. Worth taking if you're into the classics.
Worst teacher I've had here. Confusing grading system and boring lectures, most of the class stopped showing up. Don't take him.
I took this class because it was both humanities and writing emph. So far its not a bad class, I am not intrested in world lit at all which doesnt make the class difficult. You have 1 test and two explications 2 pages each double spaced which arent hard at all. His grading is odd because it is a contract way but do the work and youll be okay.
Do NOT take this class unless you want to waste your time. Dr. Dodson seems like a nice guy, but he cannot teach in front of the class for the life of him. Very awkward and looks borderline uncomfortable during the "lectures," if I can call his mumbling and fidgeting that. Very unclear most of the time and somehow makes Shakespeare boring.
Honestly a pretty boring class, but makes up for it with dumb easy assignments. There are only 2 essays that make up the bulk of your grade, but each one only needs to be 2 pages and 3 paragraphs minimum. Attendance is also mandatory for a good chunk of your grade. There's also supposed to be 2 tests, but he skipped them for my class, easy A.
