he's kinda annoying sometimes, and his attitude, but overall, he's helpful
No Comments
Good teacher, very understanding. 3 papers and 2 in-class essays, it's a lot of work but very worth it.
Short Story Workshop. Most of us were English majors and aspiring writers. Made me, and the entire class, never want to write again.
good teacher, if you take his class once a week its the same amount of work as english 110
A lot of writing involved, but very helpful if you are an English major.
He is a good professor. His grading is fair. he makes u read short stories. I think It's an easy class to pass. HE HAS ATTITUDE. He calls on people alot. yes, u can take him.
Alot of work. Be prepared to take in class essays. Eventually you get used to him and class becomes less stressful. Calls on everyone, be prepared with readings.
relatively hard grader, seems like a bitter writer who's still trying to make it. will chomp up your creativity to a degree that is understandable and pleasing for him. even if you disagree with him but want a good grade, you should make the changes he wa
Very particular.Wants his papers and in class essays done in a certain way but does not make clear what way that is.Calls randomly on students.participation is a must. Don't eat in his class.one thing in his defense though: hes very knowlegeable.u learn.
can be pretty condecending at times. has annoying attitude. a helpful teacher though. improved my writing although he is a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to grading. an A paper to another teacher is a B for him. take if you want to learn about ENG
I learned alot from him because he was truly concerned about each and every student. Only short stories, can be read in one night. Gives quizzes sometimes, but if you did your readings, they are fairly easy. Do your work- He gave me an A.
The essays for his reading assaignments are very difficult. The essays he makes you right are hard as hell and do not have any direct question. Boring essays and boring work. Class seems to take longer than they really are.
Prof. Lehman is the real deal. Extremely knowledgeable and thorough. I left a survey part one course with enough information to practically skip part two. Do the reading and open your mouth. Slackers and know-it-alls need not apply. Queens is lucky to have him.
I don't like him or his teaching techniques! A whole bunch of writing OMG!! Always making us write down a new word and what language it comes from, such a nerd! I ABSOLUTELY DON'T RECOMMEND HIM!
This is what teaching is all about! You can tell he loves his subject (and the school!). QC's Library was #1 until Brooklyn re-did theirs, by the way! His class discussions are great, and his essays are done very well- a few drafts for each so you have time to make many corrections. HE LOVES TURTLES!
hes really clear and he knows alot of languages which is fun, but his essays are sooo easy, he gives you like two weeks to revise it totally
He's a nice guy, but he's a stickler for everything! Though we learned a lot about the actual writers' live's, we didn't learn how to actually write a thesis until our last paper! If you want to learn english, take another class
Taking this class summer 06, gets the class involved. Gives insight on writers. Good teacher. Would recommend just don't eat in his class or he'll shout you out.
Extremly, extremly, particular. creates an envirement that makes you fell like you're in second grade. I would absolutly NOT recomend him. Quiz and written response every single week.
Wants one to write as he does. Writing intensive, and is a stickler about EVERYTHING! Not a great experience at all...
Take him if u want to learn to write and work hard. Not for people who r looking for an easy time. Very particular. Gives a lot to write 5 essays n 16 journals plus a couple of quizes. Knows everybodys name n gives personal attention.
He givees a lot of papers, journals and homework. No eating in his class. Attendance is mandatory. He is an extremely hard grader. However, If you want to learn then I would recommend him because he is very knowledgeable and willing to assist any student.
i'm chinese came here for a few year. this professor was the first one who opened up my mouth. i used to be very shy and never talk in class especially in front of people. this professor forced me to express myself to other classmates. i used to hate him so much, but now i actually appreciate for what he did to me.class was hard for me ilearn alot
it's not an easy class: 3 essays, 3 in-class essays, weekly response/quiz/ readings/talking pts & if you miss 3 classes you get penalized. but, he is one of the best English profs (which is rare) and he has a witty sense of humor. + no final. AND he cycles from union sq to kissena and back every classday, which still amazes me!!
This professor is fun and entertaining. Other than his handwriting being very poor, I have no complaints. We did a lot of work throughout the semester...one 3-page essay each week. But they were easy. We spent a lot of time laughing in class
coming from a person who hates reading, writing and long classes... i loved his class. he is always making corny jokes and gives everyone such personal attention. he was a great professor and although he gave alot of work, i would take him again anyday!!!
This man is an absolute riot! We differed in taste, but he didn't hold it against me. My only issue was toward the end I started feeling like I was running out of juice from pouring my soul out in the essays. He is funny AND fun. I dont think i've had this good a time or made so many nutjob friends in a class before. he revived my pen. y'know?
take him. you won't regret it.
Brilliant and passionate professor. If you have to take American Lit II, this is the professor for you. His sense of humor keeps the laughter going throughout the whole class, every class.
I'm taking him for a summer class right now and he is a complete nightmare. The reading assigments are up to 70 pages a night and a written response is due each day. There are 4 papers in total. He never comments on content when grading only grammar. I would run as fast as I could away from this professor unless you have an abundance of free time.
DO NOT work ahead as will change assignments at whim and short notice. Is condescending & mocks wrong answers. Treats students like 2nd graders "I'm thinkin of a word that starts with E"...Really?! Doesn't ever comment on writing except grammer so don't expect feedback to improve. Inexperienced, disorganized or doesn't care? Who Knows? A horror!
Great prof, wish i could take his class all over again. Very funny and helpful. Ilove this Prof
Professor Lehman is a great professor. At first I wasnt sure if I could handle his class but after speaking to him one on one he made me feel very comfortable. He is funny and very nice, he gives you time to finish your work and hand it in late if you really have to. You will learn a lot from him.
I wouldn't recomment this professor at all to anyone! His class feels like your taking 5 classes. He is very strict about little things and he lets the class give opinions, he doesn't clarify or go over the assigned readings. He quizzes every week along with a hand in assignment, and the quiz is one out of 15 things you have to read that week so yo
Prof Lehman is wonderful. He really teaches you how to write and think critically. He does assign work, but it's maneagable. He's a professor you'll actually learn something from. Be warned: don't just expect to show up and get a good grade! And if you can't contribute to class discussion in a positive & smart way, you'll be miserable so stay away.
He has talking points in each class,in which you MUST participate. He forces his students to sit in a circle even if there is no room to get in.2 papers and secondary sources are very important to him.One journal a week that consists of 3 text and must include quotes. He will not accept a journal if it does not meet his format.
Really involved and fun professor. He requires participation in class discussions from all students, but you get a real sense of community out of it. Lots of reading and analytical writing, but that's how you learn.
Prof. Lehman is a rare breed. You have teachers who became teachers for no apparent reason, but this guy here came to teach. He is extremely knowledgeable and engages the students by demanding participation. It takes weeks to get used to, but honestly this guy knows how to teach. Take him if you are serious about learning.
Great professor!! He helped me so much & improved my writing greatly! I would 100% recommend this professor!!
Not the best, not the worst. Expect to read and participate, but that's gonna happen in every english class. he's a good professor, but gets on my nerves sometimes.
He may be a little intimidating at first with all the work he expects, but once you get used to him everything will be okay. He helped my writing improve drastically :)
I really like this guy. He can be a little intense so I can see why he's not for everyone. Hes really smart and has alot of intersting stories to share. Participation in class disscussions is manditory but the work load is manageable. Alot of reading and he has a unique format for essays but not too bad. Id take another english class with him
Its an interesting class, if you show up and participate. Expect to write a lot, as it is a W class. He assigned 2 page papers every week, and 3 longer 5-7 pg papers. Not a hard class but you'll need to work for it.
Prof. Lehman is a good professor, he will address any question you may have. The class itself is very routine, it is the same thing every week. He will go off topic very easily, and most of the times it feels like jeapordy trying to guess what word he is thinking about. At the end of the week my notes consist of words with definitions.
Professor Lehman is a great professor. He has experience in the writing fields and is very passionate about what he is teaching. He is brilliant in literally everything and makes you feel comfortable in his class. He teaches you how to really write and is entertaining as well. He only wants the best for his students.
He loves to impress his student with his multilingual skills. He speaks really fast. Helps students to think. Sometimes he calls out a student although I do not mind some of my friends hate it. You would have to write journal for each week and submit three papers. He conducts the class as a discussion. He is a cool guy to hang out and discuss with
Participation is mandatory and at certain points in class he will call on you whether you're ready or not. He is always playing a guessing game of the word he is thinking. He goes into detail analyzing and speaking on urban issues. He assigns a journal every week (1pg),a quiz every week (2-3sentences), expects you to annotate articles and 4 essays
He is a good, passionate teacher. He keeps the flow of work pretty light for an English teacher and is very into what he does. His class does get a lil boring sometimes, but it happens. I would take another class from him.
Very interesting topic of conversations. You do have to work for your grade, but it is definitely manageable. He gives good advice when writing your papers. He does have a strict cell phone policy, but being that the everyone was always talking to each other, you almost feel as though you don't need it. I would take him again if I had the chance.
While this professor is intelligent and has a lot to discuss, his class is very intense in terms of his guidelines and what he expects from students. He is very nit-picky and wants things done his way and his way ONLY. Forget anything you have ever learned about writing an English essay, you MUST write your essays only his way.
honestly a good professor and deserves a higher rating. 3 essays 1 on each book , 1 question quiz once a week on the assigned reading , but a really straight forward question , and a response due each week on the reading . hes funny . hell call on u randomly sometimes so pay attention . its honestly one of the easier english teacher at qc TAKE HIM
He is a great professor who helps you to understand things from different points of view. But his class is somehow difficult to understand. And he usually calls on students to answer his questions. However, he is a responsible teacher, and he cares his students. Three 5-6 pgs essays, 2 in-class essays. Quiz and journal attach to every reading.
I'm not sure how I feel about him. His class was not difficult, but you did have homework every week, 6 essays (3 in class, 3 outside), and 6 books. He's not an easy grader, but I wouldn't say the toughest either. He's nice, but he likes things a certain way.
He's very strict in how he wants his papers being written. If you deviate slightly from what he outlines for you, he'll make you change it. Everyone has to participate and share their opinion, so if you don't read you'll look like a goof. He's very knowledgeable and makes the class fun to be a part of. 6 papers (3 in-class) but they're not too bad.
No eating in his class, No cellphone. And just read the text on the syllabus, if its complicated just google the info but at the end what is required is 1 paragraph on the text due once every week. Essays arent horrible, just wish he was better at communicating our errors. You need to write essays HIS way which shouldnt be an issue bc its easier
He is really nice and is very knowledgeable but Im only taking this class for an elective and since it is a summer session I thought it was going to be really easy. Nope, you have to read 4 novels that are long and wright a journal every night and he does 2 in class essays and 2 at home. But if there not done his way he makes u change it. Stay away!
He has a system via weekly Journals and quizzes. Usually will drop in 4 essays within the course but his class was easy to understand and you can tell he does the best he can. He will call on random students for questions so you better pay attention.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR you need to read 6 books in the semester Every week you need to read the first half of the entire book write a discussion board post on each chapter with talking points he put together then create a journal entry to submit On top of that you will have an essay exam in every book He is SUPER UNORGANIZED and poor grader
One of the worst professors I've had. Easy to access outside of class through email but he is very blunt and not helpful. I would ask something and he wouldn't give me an actual answer. He's a tough grader as well. You'd think you're doing good and then your grade shows and it's not good. Constantly unhappy with your work unless it's done his way.
Don't listen to the other reviews. It's a writing intensive course for creative writing, so of course the grading is going to be strict. You can skim the readings and the discussion boards are easy for the most part. He gives ok feedback, considering he is grading a bunch of students, but you can get a meeting in order to go more in depth.
I don't see how a reviewer called this a "Creative writing" course. Writing intensive? Yes. Creative? Absolutely not. This course leaves no room for individuality or creativity. It's a cultish stroking of an elective English professor's ego. He gives zeros for the most trivial issues rather than an actual grade. He forces you to write in HIS voice.
Unorganized syllabus and teachings. PLEASE READ ALL THE REVIEWS do not just look at the good ones. You don't do the papers exactly as he wants you to do and he gives you an instant 0 on it. He would focus on one point in class and then for the essay make you talk about something unrelated. DO NOT TAKE, save yourself the trouble.
Unorganized class lectures and no creativity or individuality in writing. The only thing we would talk about were the guides on how to create essays and paragraphs. The class in itself was very boring and repetitive. Half of the students stopped coming to class because of how draining this class is. DO NOT take this class!!
I get he teaches a Writing Intensive course but he takes that to another level. He cares about commas HEAVILY. Weekly Discussions + Journal entries are fine but annoying. His essay exam topics have NOTHING to do with what we talk about in class and the structure he wants it in is weird too. AVOID if you want an easy writing intensive class.
Summer/Online - Prof teaches in a engaging, conversational manner. Be prepared to discuss the readings.Keep up with the online submissions, discussion board posts, journals, and four papers. Make sure you follow his guidelines. and rules, he expects you include the formal considerations and other tools used to analyze poetry. Allows resubmissions.
The professor gave back good feedback on assignments and gave everyone the opportunity to correct their mistakes and resend their assignments for full credit. He cared about the students and wanted everyone to succeed in his class.
Honestly, Prof. Lehman is not as bad as people say. I didn't even read the textbook and still passed by doing his homework and 4 essays. You have to show up to class because he takes off points for not showing up. I disliked his class because he wasn't flexible with attendance. He calls on you to participate in class. He lets you redo assignments.
I LOVE PROFFESOR LEHMANK, HE'S SUPER NICE AND WILL HEAR YOU OUT
Don't bother with this guy, he is disrespectful, it's his way or you will get an F
Terrible professor. Assignments don't make sense, don't give clear instructions. Argues with students about the Bronx being the best borough, no one cares about the Bronx or Manhattan, people are here to learn not argue with him about which borough is the best
Taking this professor was my biggest mistake. He is horrible.
Don't bother, find a different professor.
Run!!!
If you miss a "comma" he will give you a F
He is a nightmare!!!! DON'T
DON'T TAKE HIM
he will ruin your GPA
Disrespectful
If you ask him a question, he will not give you a straight answer
this dude is disrespectful
Find a different professor, don't bother with him
Instant regret
DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS MAN. RUNNN
Dude was obnoxious. Would criticize anyone who had an opinion that contradicted his. Also picked on the same group of people, that he did not like.
Dreaded this class. Very obnoxious guy. Would always grade papers with two grades like A-/B+. Very difficult to have a class discussion because he's judgy
