Very straightforward teacher, will answer any questions you have, and help you do well.
Eric is a very helpful and knowledgable teacher. He is always there to make sure you understand the material. He gives complete reviews of test material and tries to make chemistry more interesting with demonstrations and clear examples. A++++++++++++
If your not good at science, take Goll for Chem and lab life. Teaches you only what you need to know for the exams. Very good teacher, explains everything and wants you to learn. Everything on his website.
Eric Goll rocked.. i recommend this teacher for everyone.. Made Chemistry fun... Take him.. It is well worth it!
took him for both chem 101 and 102..makes class as easy as possible. tells LOTS of corny jokes. he's a little unclear and not that approachable, but he's a fairly new prof. recommended for science majors.
Eric Goll was an excellent teacher for chem136. He was very helpful with any questions anyone had, and gave very good test reviews. Very easy going guy, and a very fair grader. Overall one of the best teachers!
E. Goll was a great teacher. When he says, 'study your notes', STUDY THEM! All of his quiz and exam questions come directly from the examples he gives in class. IF you attend class and study a little you will get a B at least. He makes class fun with his corny jokes. Overall this guy was great.
Prof. Goll is an excellent chemistry teacher, and will help you if you need it. I would recommend him to any student who is taking general chemistry. His only downside is his affinity for tight pants, this does not affect his teaching ability.
Took this during Summer 1, in 6 weeks, it wasn't easy and it consumes tons of time, but Prof. Goll, was excellent. He answered all questions via email, no matter how many I sent, he never made me feel like the idiot I thought I was. He is kind and supportive and really wants you to do well, he'll help you every step of the way.
Don't take this class in 6 weeks. It's organized well, but too much information. Spent hours just getting the required work done, not studying. Also not enough time for him to respond to emails. He's not responsive, rude and not apologetic - but knows his stuff and keeps it interesting.
Great teacher. Good guy. Funny in that corny way but always willing to keep your interest. Loved his class and didn't want it to end! I loved Eric!!!
He a good teacher but still pretty hard at times....lots of corny jokes
even though he seems unapproachable sometimes, because he is quiet and very shy, he is still very willing to help you better understand the material,he was one of my favorite teachers, and im happy that he enjoys going to the beach also.

Good teacher, helpful with study guides, review questions for tests and quizes. Class easy to understand. Take this guy.
So adorable... can't help but love going to class everyday. He is a really nice guy who loves what he teaches and it shows. That's why I'm taking him again for next semester. Trust me, it's so worth it!
Eric's okay. He's a pretty hard teacher but is willing to help you out if you aks for it.
Best science professor ever. He should be teaching at a really good 4 year university but he's not so take advantage of it, he's the greatest.
Slightly standoffish. Feel his shyness and lack of confidence is the cause of his notes being a regurgitation of the textbook. Not original, inspiring or seemingly excited by teaching. Nothing special here. Not bad, nor exceptional.
REALLY GOOD TEACHER GREAT NOTES STUDY NOTES AND JUST READ THE CHAPTERS
very clear - descrirtion of material as well as what you are to know for test.
I found his class extremely hard. You must attend all classes and study! His tests are hard. He loves to mix things up and give tricky questions on tests. He does offer extra credit, but does NOT curve at all. I DON'T RECOMMEND TAKING THIS COURSE IN THE SUMMER!
He gives good notes but you still have to read the book for his tests, he gives tricky questions on tests. He is hard! He can drop your grade even because of poore participation in class.
doesn't return graded material promptly at all. 2 weeks & still waiting for my midterm grade. doesn't return graded assignments either. waaaay too much work for this class.
he gives so much work that he can't even get it graded. and i don't like that he gives a lousy grade on an assignment & doesn't even return it to you to see where you went wrong. take this class if it's your ONLY class for the semester..it's that much work
Hes an awesome teacher.. can be hard sometimes with grading but he explains everything very well and his jokes are very corny but funny at the same time because of the way he says it. but dont miss any of his classes and try to work on the homeowrk problems during exam time. overall he is a very good teacher!
Hard, long tests. Nice guy though.
Very good, precise professor. A little dry in the presentation, but he throws some jokes out later on in the semester.
TERRIBLE! MISLEADING IN HIS LECTURE, ALWAYS THINK I KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT TO FIND OUT I REALLY DON'T AFTER I TAKE HIS HARD QUIZZES AND TESTS
Ive had him 3 simisters straight, excellent professor! Test is directly from notes-don't need book-just show up to class and follow his lecutre. But if your braindead and lazy don't take this guy.
Great professor, grades fairly and the only one I know that offers extra credit.
VERY NICE BUT TOUGH
the best chem teacher jst take good notes and he hints on tings dat will b on d exams
anybody who doesn't pass this class is brain dead . give up taking general chemistry anywhere else cause it does not get any easier anywhere else.
NOT a great Professor. He's the Chemistry Dept Chair, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's a great teacher. He shows little interest in the concern or grades of students, little pride or enjoyment out of what he does, and just rolls through his lesson plans. With past years test averages in the 70s, be warned, test questions are misleading.
Great Teacher, Gets right to the point and tests come directly from the notes. Do your work and Eric will work his magic. If you don't want to put time into the class then don't bother, otherwise this teacher is your best bet for success. Also learn cool words like eye candy haha.
His classes are boring. He's NOT a good teacher. I would not recommend him to anyone. He's never concerned about your progress during semester. Students were cheating during tests and quizzes right in front of him and I doubt he did anything about it.
Prof. Goll is not an easy grader. You have to actually LEARN something in his class to do well. He is organized and uses time extremely well. He is prepared for class and knowledgeable about his lectures. You might find an easier grade with a different professor but you probably won't learn as much! Study his notes and you'll do well.
I had professor Goll for chem 101 and he was the best teacher I've ever had. He went out of his way to help me when I needed extra help and he actually made a difficult subject both fun and interesting. Those of you who gave him a bad rating are just showing sour grapes because you probably didn't put the effort in and wanted an easy grade.
This is the second rating by me for Goll because it's the second chem class I've taken with him. You be hard pressed to find a better chemistry instructor who prepares you for the future. He's not easy, but he is thorough.
Not the best, but at least he's a better teacher then Bill Boyke
Good teacher. If you take notes, do the homework, and ask questions in class, it's easy to get good grades on the quizzes and tests. He's funny and loves corny chemistry jokes.
He is a good teacher that I've ever had!!! Recommended.
I had this professor for a basic chem class. Everything taught was very easy to understand. He is a very fair grader. There were many out of class quizzes and 4 tests. Studying was necessary if you hoped to pass but all the notes given in class were exactly what would be on the test.
Eric is a good teacher if you grasp Chemistry quickly! If you take longer to understand it, then you may not want to take him, he does move quickly through the material. The thing I did like is that he told you what exactly would be on the quizzes and some questions on the tests! Also gives extra credit!
Eric is a very good teacher. The material is fast, but if you study you will get a good grade. If you don't understand things in class use office hours because he is always at school. He gives handouts and the quizzes and tests are modeled after the handouts. Also a lot of extra credit is offered so take advantage!
Very organized. Returns tests and quizzes quickly. Dry sense of humor. Makes material accessible to all students, but makes tests challenging. A very fair guy. Hard worker. Very cool guy out of classroom. No reason not to take his class.
great teacher, not an easy A..but if you put work into it, you'll do well.
Easier than Boyke (although less funny) because you don't need to practice additional problems from the book. Know how to do every type of problem from the packets and from class and you'll get an A. Goll actually can be funny but has a dryer sense of humor compared to Boyke. Very straightforward with what you need to know and super helpful.
Very good professor. Though chemistry can be utterly confusing, he explains things very well. Goes over lots of problems and gives many hints as to what you can expect on the exam. Returns test and quizzes quickly. Like every science class he gives a couple tough questions no big deal. I would definately take this professor.
Goll is a great professor and really knows his stuff. In order to get an A though you have to study really hard! Weekly quizzes are given which are easy if you put the time in. Exams though are very challenging and tricky and you have to be really prepared for them! Also gives a lot of extra credit so take advantage! Would recommend!
Great professor, clear concise. Lecture notes are the key. Some supplemental references in the book. But mostly do all assigned problems, ask questions and you should be fine.
Goll is a nice guy but this class was extremely hard. His test are out of 150 points and every single thing you learn in class is on there. He gives quizzes every week and the extra credit helps but there was a time that it was 1st come 1st serve and only 5 people out of both of his 102 classes got to participate. I would not recommend him.
Very good at explaining chemistry. Straightforward and easy to understand. Recommended.
Amazing professor, takes the time to explain everything step by step, and even gives you packets of his lecture notes. If you FULLY understand his lecture notes, you will ace his class. He is very approachable, you just have to really spend time on this class b/c it is a lot of material. Use flashcards! I loved chemistry even more after this class!
Not a fan. His test are extremely hard and he seems to not care about the class. He is not friendly. The test are not always what is on the notes.
Tests match the notes exactly. Very helpful.
Professor Goll is a little rough around the edges. Compared to horror stories I heard about other professors. YOU WILL NOT GET AN EASY A . However, if you're willing to put in the work he will help you. Tests and quizzes are hard, but that is to be expected, because chem is not easy. He has pretty good office hours, take advantage of them.
He's great, but extremely tough! If you are not willing to learn and work for your grade take somebody else! Gives easy extra credit stuff. Tests are very hard (don't expect multiple choice), NOT IMPOSSIBLE to get As. Study his notes and examples thoroughly and you'll be fine. I'm taking him again for 102 because he is the only ONE who teaches!
Professor Goll gives you packets for each chapter. If you study those you will get a decent grade. Most people have trouble with conversions. He is a straight to the point and tells you what will be on the quizzes.
Goll is one of the best professors I've ever had. He gives you the packs for the some units and then you must print them out on your own. He offers extra credit opportunities and his lectures are straight forward. The tests are only hard if you do not study and do not pay attention in class. Tests have the problems you do in PLTL and in class.
best professor at brookdale. he's very understanding, smart, and funny. I enjoyed everyone of his classes. his exams are tough, but if you study you will be fine, i cant wait to take him again in the fall!
After taking him for 101 I decided taking him for 102 as well. Chem 102 was definitely one of the hardest classes I took during my time at Brookdale, I almost did not manage to get the grade I wanted and the tests are extremely hard. You should definitely study a lot for this class because it is so heavy on notes. Goll is accessible outside class.
he's good at explaining. He gives out a packet for each chapter to make it easer for you to follow.
He's not terrible, I have him now and we only get about an hour and 15 min for a lecture so he does kinda push a lot of info on you. The tests are difficult for the one who don't do the work outside of class, lots of questions are taken from there. He is a little drab, doesn't seems too excited but he knows his stuff. Personally I wouldn't take him
Well, I have to admit... I'm not really a fan of Eric. His exams, yes they're hard, even though he uses some problems from homeworks and study guides. He grades you very harshly, taking off points for brackets or lack of work shown. He knows his stuff, but doesn't relay that info back to his students very well in his lectures...
Science majors will candidly agree that having a solid foundation in earlier coursework is critical in predicting their success in future classes. From the perspective of a post-bac student currently in organic chemistry and studying for the MCAT, I can say Professor Goll has overwhelmingly prepared me in all aspects. Take him, you won't regret it.
Goll is an amazing teacher! As long as you pay attention in class and study his notes you will easily pass. His tests come straight from his notes with maybe a few numbers changed in a couple of problems. If you don't understand something don't be afraid to ask him. He may seem a little scary to approach at first but inside he's really a great guy.
Goll is awesome! He explains things thoroughly and genuinely wants to see his students do well! I will definitely take him for 102. He wouldn't allow me to take a quiz at a later date even though my friend's dad's girlfriend died (but in all fairness, I never met her before)... Eric is great and I cannot wait to have class again with him!
Good teacher, knows his stuff and explains it well, but VERY rough grader. will not be an easy A, but it is possible. you will get points off for any mistake you make even if you demonstrate a high level of understanding for the concept
This is Lauren from chem 102! I really enjoy Eric's class. However, there were numerous times when I asked to see copies of the quizzes or tests in advance and he refused! This is very disappointing, as I am a very busy individual. Eric, if you are reading this, your welcome for the positive rating! I would definitely take his class again.
Overall, Goll is a great teacher. However, he takes off points if you make an error on a quiz or test. I found this to be upsetting because I am only human and we all make mistakes...I would take his class again
Eric is a nice guy that definitely knows his stuff, however he has trouble sharing his knowledge efficiently. His lectures are monotone and boring, and they seem to drag. He is nice and smart but definitely boring and not personable.
Goll is the best science professor Ive ever had. Before I took his class, I could barely use a calculator or round a significant figure. but after having Him for chem, I won 1st place at the stem bowl and Im considering getting my BA In chem. He is the catalyst that has Lowered my activation energy and helped me to reach my full potential
Goll is the best professor at Brookdale and makes Chemistry more simple and enjoyable. If you go to class and take all notes, you should have no problem doing really well. He tells you exactly whats on quizzes/exams. He really is a personable and funny guy, but you have to pull him out of his valence shell and reconfigure his electrons to see :)
Eric is a great teacher... before I met him, I really struggled with chemistry. In fact, I was a few electrons short of an octet. However, Goll has provided me with the knowledge and encouragement necessary to undergo hybridization and form new orbitals! I would def take his class again!
His notes are good, and should be enough to study for a test. He also offers plenty of extra credit. Work off his notes, pay attention to stuff he says in lectures, and you should be fine. He likes to tell stories of dumb things students have said/done in the past too. I know this because it's the only thing I remember from his lectures. Funny guy.
Theres no way of getting around the fact that chemistry is just a difficult subject. If you want an A, itll be like the 1st ionization energy of Fluorine; it requires a lot energy. Goll does tend to fly through lectures but if you read the Unit Review sheets, do the practice problems he sends out and take good notes, youll be fine.
Goll understands the material but doesn't understand how to teach it in a correct fashion. he always has a very condescending tone when answering a question making you feel really stupid for even asking it. his grading is so harsh that i advice you not to take this class it will leave you being more stressed than it needs to be.
Im no genius in chemistry and its challenging but Eric is a great teacher. He is accessible outside of class and his notes in his packets are on point with the material on tests and quizzes. He gives plenty of extra credit to boost your grade and wants to see you pass but you HAVE TO STUDY. Highly recommend taking him.
He is an amazing professor. He is a bit tough on grading, but only Becca he wants you to learn whats right and wrong. He. Has funny stories and really wants his students to succeed. He is also has you take really notes during lecture. I wish he taught every chemistry here!
Goll is a great professor. Although the material can be challenging, his lectures are very straightforward. His notes are clearly outlined and potentially become study guides for Exams. He is good at explaining the topics that appear to be tough and really makes sure everyone understands the material.
took for an online course, had to drop. To give you insight I have gotten all A's in microbio, AP 1, AP 2 and bio. Online chem is hard and this teacher doesnt seem to care about that. the way his material is broken down in canvas is hard to follow/incohesive. tests are 60% of the grade! These were the HARDEST tests I have ever taken!
I would never take this professor again. He went on and on about all his qualifications, but I noticed he never mentioned taking a class about LEARNING HOW TO TEACH. Therefore, he DOES NOT explain the information very well. Also a very harsh grader. I did all the outside class work he offered and still greatly struggled on the tests, as did others.
Although Prof. Goll is a funny guy and seems to be very smart, it does not at all correlate to his teaching abilities. The lectures will drag, and if you don't have the slightest clue about chemistry before taking this class, don't expect the end result to be any different. The tests are extremely hard so bust your tail if you do end up taking.
Funny guy, good professor. Knows his stuff, has outlines for all the chapters plus powerpoint so it's easy to follow along and pass with a good grade. Loves his signs. Lots of extra credit. Honestly I'm upset that I couldn't take him for 102 as well. If you show up, pay attention, and know how to study it isn't hard at all to pass with an A.
This professor just need to do a better job at teaching the content of the course in general, very intelligent man however, just not a great teacher. Would never take again very disappointed with what I saw
At the end of the day, chemistry is not an easy subject no matter who teaches it. If you want to learn, it'll be hard. Goll is not easy, but he has one of the highest ratings in the department for a reason. He's funny and knows how to teach. Failing a class doesn't make the professor bad, contrary to what many of the ratings on here seem to think.
Really smart guy that lacks the ability to teach. The whole class is guided notes which you fill out during the lectures from his monotone voice. He provides a couple funny stories that have little to no relevance of the material we are currently learning. You could replace him with a powerpoint slide and the class would do just as bad as before.
DONT TAKE HIM! He barely explains his lecture and all you do is notes via packet. Since the virus hit, we are ALL struggling through online. Its mandatory to do homework online but its crap we havent learned. (So have fun teaching yourself) His tests and quizzes arent on material weve learned. Hes also only up around 2am¿ so hard to reach.
Goll is an interesting person some say they love him some say he is mean. Personally, I like his humor and he does teach very well. you can always ask him questions if he sounds annoyed, he's not. gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and drops a test and quiz grade
I took Goll last term, but this review is over due. At first I though Goll was tough but I realized he's one of the most helpful teachers, and wants to see you pass. After completing Chem 101 and 102, I am able to apply that knowledge to other courses and it has helped my understanding so much. He really is a great teacher just don't be lazy!
Can be intimidating in class, but very nice guy who is easy to reach. Use the note outlines he provides for lectures and memorize terms. Do practice problems on Canvas so you can apply the concepts to different types of questions. Take note of small facts he mentions in lecture and check email attachments as both could be extra credit questions.
Not a good professor, tough grader, long boring lectures. Trys to be funny but is definitely not, the entire class pretends to laugh so we dont hurt his feelings.
if youre here looking for a sign, this is it if i were you id look for another professor for chem
if you ask him to explain a problem he tells you to look up videos on youtube, he is just plain awful.
Not a class to take if youre lazy. Hard but okay. do the lectures. Doesnt post exam highs and lows so you dont know how you compare to everyone else? pretty sure everyone did bad
I would not recommend taking this class. I took it for credit because it was required for my major and he was not helpful. Took forever to answer emails and was reluctant to having a 1 on 1 meeting when kids had problems. If you arent good in chem dont take it. You have to pretty much teach yourself and not worth the stress even after doing work
The fact that he feels the need to justify his teaching by responding to people's posts on rate my professor sums it up. It is extremely unprofessional for a professor to be on this website responding to students. I have never seen a professor do such a thing.
This guy is NOT for everyone. I had to drop this class due to lack of teaching that was presented in this class. You can watch all the lecture videos and take extensive notes and STILL FAIL. Waste of my time and money honestly. Hes very smart but, I cant wait to retake this class with another professor.
I just finished an online class with prof Goll and he's not as bad as these reviews make him out to be. I didn't do great, chem isn't my thing, be sure to study hard for his exams, they're worth 60% of your grade, just don't be lazy. He sends tons of practice problems, records/copies the lectures, and gives extra cred. sike, worst prof ever
Professor Goll is a nice guy, but when it comes down to it who cares. He's a terrible teacher for the sole fact that what is on the tests AND quizzes is only 30 % of what he covers in class. I studied for hours, and on both my average were low F's and low C's. The only reason I passed was because of my lab grade being a 95. Also quizzes every week.
Lectures can be intense. Print out the handouts and make sure you know them inside out for weekly quizzes and exams. No mandatory homework, 5 exams (lowest gets dropped), 10 EC pts towards the lowest exam, plenty of EC on exams. Pay attention, do all the problems you can find in the book + the ones he gives you, and you'll do good. I liked him!
Professor Gol was one of the teachers most focused on what he taught. Even when I didn't get an A, he helped his students get a higher grade even with the opportunity to take an extra test to improve. The videos are clear enough to understand them, if for some reason you did not understand them, it is as easy as contacting him.
Make sure you check here before taking ANY classes, rating says it all.
He shouldnt be teaching this class,. He is a good teacher but he makes things overcomplicated. This class was supposed to be on a high school level, but not with him. I studied, went to office hours, watched videos, etc. and still didnt get an A. Tests are very hard. If you ask something he just repeats what he just said. I lost all interest inCHEM
Professor Goll genuinely goes out of his way to help his students succeed. Although I decided to Withdrawal from his class after the first few quizzes and exams, he messaged students through Canvas and told them that he'd be at the College on weekends (Pre-Covid) if they needed his help. He made practice problems prior 2 exams & sent videos as well
Worst teacher I've ever had. I don't want to study Chemistry anymore.
I took Goll for Chem 101 and 102; definitely a great teacher. He doesn't use the textbook at all, goes through notes in class. All you really have to do to pass is fill out the notes and read them over a couple times before an exam. Occasionally puts extra credit questions on exams. Gives an optional cumulative final if you want to drop a testgrade
I took Chem 102 with Professor Goll several times, and felt he taught with clarity. The material is tough but his outlines that he provided made it easier to understand. Attend class, take the notes and youll pass. Everything that is in his outlines is exactly on the exams, makes them easy to study for.
I took Professor Goll for General Chemistry and even though I did well, it was the toughest class I've ever taken. Chemistry is not easy so prepare to work for a decent grade. I will say he was personally nice to me, but I have seen evidence of him being not so nice to others. Please consider all criticism and not just the good reviews.
My first chem professor was not great as he just read powerpoints and offered no help. Professor Goll actually goes through the lessons making sure you are actively paying attention and sometimes a sneaks a joke in here and there to keep things fresh. Really appreciated that. Uploads blank outlines of the lesson you can take notes as he teaches.
You must work for your grade in this class. Skimming material won't cut it. Took the Chem102 course originally in summer 1 then again in summer 3. Goll offers extra credit so don't worry if you slip up on a quiz or exam. DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS!!! Exams are really in-depth so you must know the material in and out.
I decided to ignore the ratings and take this class and now im dropping out. His quizzes are NOTHING like what he teaches. I studied for hours reading the book and following the outline and still managed to fail, and almost everyone in the class did too. If you're going to give a quiz/exam I would expect you to teach about it.
This professor was difficult. You really have to find a way to do practice problems on your own and use Khan Academy or YouTube to help you understand things a lot better or else you will have a hard time following. He doesn't seem to have patience for students needing a lot of extra help who that have not been in school for a long time. STUDY!!
I had to work quite hard to do well but his lectures are clearly laid out. His quizzes were harder than his tests. Do lots of practice problems and reach out if you need help. If you think you know what you're doing, that's not enough. You really need to know the material. He's a bit dry, but crack him open and he's got a good sense of humor.
This class challenged and made me reevaluate how I study as a student. The content is tough, but it comes down to how much you want it. Goll was a great teacher, and his lectures were fun. Gives extra credit and an opportunity to drop an exam, which is more than anyone can ask for. Just do the practice problems over and over. Learn from mistakes.
I took professor Goll's classes several years ago. I was several years out of high school and didn't take chem in high school. I worked full time and went to Brookdale full time and genuinely enjoyed his class. He was an awesome, understanding professor, happy to help when asked. Pay attention, study the notes, use study groups and you'll do fine.
I took CHEM101 a few years ago online, and it honestly wasn't hard. I did terrible in APCHEM & thought I was a lost cause, but the class had clear guidelines which helped me understand the material quickly. Goll is generous with grading! He offered a optional exam that would replace our lowest grade + extra credit. My current profs would never.
Nice guy and knows what he's teaching. used outlined notes and had no homework. lots of quizzes. a little nitpicky on the grading, but offered extra credit. you have to pay attention and study to do well. sometimes there's a random question on the test, but overall a good teacher with good notes. study and you'll be fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! CLASS IS SO HARD FOR NO REASON AT ALL. HE MAKES THINGS MORE DIFFICULT AND THINKS HE IS TEACHING KIDS GETTING THEIR DOCTORATE AT CORNELL. HE IS RUDE AND MAKES YOU FEEL DUMB. TESTS HAVE ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU LEARN, SO GOOD LUCK PASSING WHEN YOU'VE NEVER SEEN HALF THE QUESTIONS EVER. HE COULD CARE LESS
DO NOT TAKE THIS IN THE SUMMER! he was helpful everytime i needed it and provided extra credit. but his canvas page is a bit of a mess tests are vhard and he seemed uninterested in students succeeding. mainly the chemistry courses arent properly adapted for a summer semester the workload is ridiculous which cant be blamed in him but is my warning
Ive never worked so hard for a class before. Ive never done this poorly in a class period. There is a disconnect between what he teaches and ends up on quizzes and exams. Guy cares more about catching cheaters than students doing well. Only class that doesnt show high low mean grades on tests because he sucks and everyone fails so he turned it off
poor video lectures. not much study material. always emailing about academic integrity at 4am and not helping us. took the canvas page down with 5 ungraded labs so we cant even see how we got our final grade. class is poorly adapted to summer semester, workload is crazy and if im working my ass off i expect my stuff graded on time at least. avoid
I despise chemistry and this professor made the course tolerable and easy to understand. He had notes for us to fill out and had insightful lectures (def pay attention to those!) . To pass I recommend taking the time to do the textbook problems and practice exams. Exams were consistent and not that difficult if you paid attention. Great teacher!
Do not take him. Drop him immediately. Just failed a summer course- wasted time and money working so hard with a teacher that could care less. I think he actually likes to fail people. He is the worst teacher ever. Believe the reviews. He is awful. He prob wrote the positive reviews himself lol. Avoid at all cost!!!! The worst!!!!!
I thought I had some bad professors until I took this class. Prof Goll makes everything more difficult than it should be. When contacted, he was very unprofessional and rude. Tests/quizzes have nothing to do with his lecture videos. He is more concerned about catching students cheating than anything else and he clearly does not want to do his job.
I took 101 and 102 fully online with Prof Goll. Canvas organization was a bit of a mess, but the video lectures were thorough, the quizzes reflected exam questions, and extra credit is offered on exams and as an additional assignment to boost your grade. If you do the practice questions and exam reviews, you'll do well on exams. Exams are LONG!
Omg I literally love this guy. Even if you get some questions wrong on the quizzes or exams, he tries to give partial credit. Try to do the extra credit on the exams because they will save your grade. Just follow and study the notes, pay attention to lectures, also participate because he does grade on that. Overall funny guy and I miss his class:,)
Not a lot of review for exams, only abt 15 questions. Also I think its unfair that for an inperson class we were expected to watch zooms and teach ourselves a lesson that would be on a quiz and final exam?? I specifically choose&paid inperson bc I cant learn on my own. Besides that his notes were good and matched with exams just different wording
Worst professor ever. I should have listened to these reviews yet I decided to give this class a chance. Big mistake. Cares only about catching people cheating and sending emails at crazy hours of the day about Academic Integrity. None of his notes make sense, there is no correlation to the quizzes or tests. Doesn't care about teaching his students
Most difficult class I ever took
One of the toughest professors I have ever taken. Shows no enthusiasm for the class, does not explain when you ask a question and does not care about students' success. If you are planning to take him please do not because you will regret it.
Worst professor I've ever had. Lectures barely teach you anything; learned using other sources, his examples of concepts are completely different than the ones on the tests. This is not an intro course! I feel that maybe he has been teaching it for so long that he doesn't even know what is difficult for someone who has no chem background.
I feel like people forget that they're taking Chemistry and that this class was never going to be easy. He presents the info in an organized manner, gives you access to things that will help including textbook questions, other videos, and worksheets. It's a tough course but if you do all of your work it's definitely possible to get an A/B.
This professor is acting like he's teaching at Harvard or something, the lectures aren't clear and they only have half of the info needed for exams, you have to memorize all formulas and constants and I have friends at 4 year universities who don't even have to do that. This was a summer course and harder than almost any other science I've taken.
Every chem course is difficult, but if you're planning on taking the 6 week course over the summer I would highly recommend you do not take it. There's a lot of work for this course and its gonna be hard to do well if you have other responsibilities outside of the class. His lectures are ok but I had to use outside resources.
Chem is hard as it is but this was horrid. Friends in other Unis don't even get into half the stuff this guy crams into a "general" course. Saw in previous posts he claims to get his test questions from lecture and study guides...maybe like 5% of the test. Don't know why he expects us to memorize every single equation...I have other classes too!
This professor is good however he has clearly been teaching this course for so long that it doesnt resonates that he is course is taken mostly by student fresh out of high school. For a chem 101 and 102 course he is an extremely difficult grader. What he cares most for is catching students cheating. He takes it extremely personal.
I took Professor Goll during my first semester at Brookdale. Coming into the class I knew it was going to be difficult. Goll is not a terrible professor as long as you take notes and pay attention in class. The exams and quizzes are known to be similar to the notes taken in class. If you're looking for a challenge but also like Chemistry take Goll.
If there were a bad professor hall of fame, he'd be first ballot. unbelievably hard for no reason most friends in their university chemistry courses don't even learn what we're learning at community college, terribly disappointed with the course and the professor. I would never recommend taking this course or any course taught by this professor.
I want to express my dissatisfaction in Chemistry class. The unclear teaching style and insufficient feedback on assignments significantly contributed to my failure in the course. Worst professor I have ever had.
Save your sanity and just don't. Chem is hard, having a good instructor makes it understandable to learn. I learned nothing with Goll.
Professor Goll is awesome, he is a very nice guy once you get to know him. He seems like a hard a $ $ at first but you gotta crack him like an egg. He is so funny and an amazing professor. I had him for 101 and 102 which means he was great enough to take his class a second time. Forever grateful for him putting up with me and my 3 annoying friends
this guy is the worst teacher ever
This class was unique. Hes a very funny awkward person but wasnt the best at explaining. His tests& quizzes were too easy and you get partial points for literally everything. I did have to teach myself alot at home but i think this is the easiest class ive ever taken. Hes so personable and loves to talk abt random things going on in his life lol
He's a great professor and made things as easy to understand as possible. Definitely try not to miss a lecture because he covers a lot of material very quickly. He is pretty funny and tends to rant about things. He is a bit harsh with grading but just remember all the units. Also try not to get stuck with 4 obnoxiously loud girls, ruins the class
Chemistry already is a very tough subject to learn and let alone teach. The professor cannot magically transport the information straight to your head. That being said do not blame the professor. Grab a redbull, get the zyns and stay up studying. The organic chemistry professor on youtube helps a lot.
DO NOT TAKE SUMMER I ONLINE ONLY Professor Goll seems like a decent teacher IN PERSON, from what I've heard. However, after taking his class all online there are a few notable things. Lectures; structured horrendously Outlines for units are unfollowable unless you follow his videos exactly Questions are put on tests to purposely catch cheaters
If what you think is general language when trying to answer something to the best of your ability, he will contradict it, stretch his accusation creatively far and say its plagiarism! Beware of an email response, he will treat you with the utmost rudeness he possibly can whilst degrading your intelligence. I'm very upset of the way I was treated.
The worst experience of my college career and it was a 101 level course??? My 500 level courses are easier to follow.
He's more interested in playing detective than actually teaching. His Facebook confirms he's got a weird obsession with catching "cheaters." He only contacts you between 1-3 am, which is beyond creepy. The course content is a joke, & the exams are a total crapshoot. You won't learn anything useful. I wasted more time on this course than any other.
Chem 101 with Professor Goll can be a real challenge. His lectures can be tough, but engaging with the material and using resources like Unstuck ai can really help. It's a tough but manageable class if you put in the work.
One of the most disrespectful, belittling, unprofessional professors I've ever met. Abuses his title and stance to catch cheaters by manipulating protocol and inappropriately handling any form of accusation. He's an insult to Brookdale, the only negative experience I've had here. I'm definitely not the only student who feels this way.
The class can be difficult at times but he's really good at explaining the concepts and has the online textbook available in canvas. He expects you to participate in class, which can be embarrassing if you answer incorrectly. He gives tons of extra credit opportunities.
This guy is extremely unhelpful and offers little material to refer to on the course page. You can attend all lectures but I recommend recording the audio using your phone because as someone with a learning disability, it was nearly impossible to keep up with anything he said. Had students play guessing games on problems rather than teach them.
I took Goll for Chem I & II. He explained both concepts & math very clearly. He provides u with lecture note packets & lecture videos on canvas, & no homework. He gives test & quiz study guides that directly correspond to the exam. In doing this, he's doing much more than other STEM prof. to give students the best chance to pass exams. Just study!
I had Professor Goll for chem 101+102, and I am very sad he doesn't teach organic. He is an amazing professor. He has a clear outline structure for every class and explains concepts very well. His exams are very straight up. If you took notes and wrote the examples in class and practice the extra ones he sends - you will pass with flying colors.
Avoid. This. Professor!!!! Please take this class with a more honest human being who would rather focus on the student learning rather than playing games. Sad to have wasted my time and money with pinky and the brain instead of learning.
he was accessible outside of class and responded to emails quickly he had a habit of making students feel embarrassed when they asked questions. if you need to see him after class, it's very awkward but, there were some extra credit opportunities. i would recommend taking his class if you plan to take organic chemistry the following semester
I just walked out of the last exam and needed to write this. He truly is not a bad guy or a bad professor. This is college it is a college level course and he treats it as it is. There are 5 exams and around 8-9 quizzes. He gives 2 extra credit opportunities outside of class and extra credit on every quiz/ exam. Do not listen to everyone else.
READ THE REVIEWS!! 50+ people aren't going to lie, just saying. Take chemistry outside of brookdale, In my opinion, the chemistry department at brookdale is substandard, the professors included. This is especially when compared to other departments that shine well (like biology).
DO NOT TAKE FOR SUMMER ONLINE ONLY!!!!!!!! I am a straight A student until this class. Worst professor ever. Only contacts you in the middle of the night, lecture videos are 5 years old, doesn't allow you to teach yourself using youtube etc. Swears everyone is "cheating." I wish I could drop the course because I am going to most likely fail.
simply searching for cheaters. his lectures are from 2020 and not updated. they are long and boring. he only emails you in the middle of the night and makes you feel unintelligent. he gives a few extra credit opportunities. don't take him
I took chem 101 and chem 102 with him over this summer. He accused me of cheating in 101 because I answered questions that I knew how to answer but I didn't use his EXACT phrasing of the answer from his 6 year old videos that he posts which aren't helpful. You are not allowed to use ANY outside source to study so it's almost impossible to do good.
