If you don't take good notes and study you are screwed. Don't take this class if you're not prepared to work hard!
If you want to learn take he is a great teacher but be prepared to work really hard he is very smart but is a hard grader.

Very interesting and passionae teacher. First history teacher I've ever liked. It's true, you have to work your butt off, but you learn so much. He makes history make sense. I'm taking him again asap.
The best teacher I've had in two years at BCC. Very interesting, professional, and passionate about his subject. You will learn a lot, but do be prepared to work your butt off.
It's true that he's a tough grader and you have to work hard to remember everything, but you'll be happy when you do. TAKE GOOD NOTES! His lectures are completely packed with information. I'd like to sit in on another of his classes some time just to soak up the solid hour of pure knowledge. Awesome
Too much note to take. I don’t want to be a history major; I just want to learn something about history. Reduce the lecture and the notes man. We are junior college students.
this teacher is waaaay too hard for history. Its impossible to get an A in teh class. IF you want a challenging teacher, this class maybe for you.
This guy thinks he is a Yale professor. He talks the entire period and refuses to be wrong in a debate. Don't take his class unless you want to just be pissed off and hate history
He is an excellent teacher! This man wants his students to succeed in a 4-yr college! He prepares his student with the necessary analytical skill required to succeed in life! Hard work, yes, but worth it!!!
avoid at all costs
If you are expecting to just slide by with an easy history class, this is the wrong teacher to do it with. It's a very hard class. He is extremely intelligent, and he treats his classes as if ther are, as said before, Yale classes. He was a good teacher, hard grading though.
Very Hard. Have to know text word for word.
The results that he expects out of you are pretty harsh, but I find myself recalling what I learned because I had to drill it into my head everyday. You won't breeze by in this class, but it will prepare you for a four-year institution.
Well, at the start of this quater he did say that it wouldn't be an easy course, but I figured every teacher says that. HE WASN'T JOKING! you have to know tons of obscure detales that are irrelavent. Only "easy"-er part was the multiple choice section on the quizes. Only take him if you don't need to maintain your GPA.
Be prepared to do a sh*tload of studying! Reading in Haines' class requires a minimum of 4 hours a night to guarantee at least a C grade. Definitely the HARDEST course so far, but well worth the time and effort. The man is extremely intelligent, and is a gifted orator. He doesn't take attendance, but for godsakes...go to class! You won't regret it.
Took his class for a telecouse-- if you want to get all the information for the tests-take the day classes--ok teacher--but very hard. His class will entail a lot of studying and tutoring to pass.
very hard class and this instructor even makes it more hard for you. very very tough grader . u don't want to take his class unless u want to fail.
Hard class. Essay, essay, essay. If you aren't great at being able to remember details, then watch out. I didn't attend class a lot but still pulled a B. I read the book. You're better off to attend class.
I loved this class! I learned SOOO much. There's a lot of reading and he does expect a lot in tests, but just take good notes and make good flashcards and you'll do alright. I'd like to sit in and listen to the lectures again sometime--they were that interesting.
Amazing teacher! You will only fail if you don't want to learn... and well, isn't that what you are paying for? HIGHLY RECOMMEND! :)
He is a very difficult teacher but well worth it. His lectures are lengthy and intense but interesting and sometimes funny. Also make use of his tutor, if you're a girl he'll like you and possibly try to help you out.
Good teacher, tests are very hard.

He knows history! He is a professional, but I prefer teachers who help students to survive, he on the other hand was the teacher who helps you sink. He likes to cover outside materials, never gives links to those materials. I liked history a lot, with him I started hating it.
I LOVED THIS CLASS!!! Even with it being so hard and me not getting a good grade in there, it was so informative. I absolutely would go in there and take it again and get a D just because I loved how much stuff I learned in there.
Hardest teacher I've EVER had! Talked to many people who have said the same. He's a GREAT lecturer and is extremely interesting to listen to. Don't take the class unless you want to really are ready to study.
Hard class... so worth the bad grade though.. Eric is a history connoisseur! And I find quite sexy.
Really knows his stuff!!! Very hard, isn't there to help you pass... wants you to do it on your own. Hard Tests. Lots of outside matieral, but so very interesting...!!!
OH GOODNESS. Hardest class I'v ever taken in my life. He doesn't respond to emails no matter how many you send. Lectures long, very detailed. If you don't know every single detail he's ever said, you will FAIL. If he doesn't like what you write or know, he will mark you down. Don't take unless you remember details well.
The teacher is really interesting and his lectures are never boring, the only good thing about this class i guess! But his grading and attitude are for univercity! He practically wants you to write his thoughts and expressions... really hard to get a good grade on his essay tests.he wants you to write a full, grammatically and spelling correct good e
ridiculously hard quizzes/tests
He knows his material and his tests are very difficult. Must know the material covered in order to do well in the class.
Dont take his class if you go to school full time and you work. I had to drop the class to keep my other grades from slipping. If you seek to keep a good GPA, then stay away. You likely will not walk out with an A. Better off auditing the class if you just want to learn history, as he is a good teacher.
The man taught at Oxford and has the same expectations here. If you love to learn take him, but only if your willing to sacrifice your GPA. Amazing passionate lecturer. Had to drop to save my GPA but I wish I could audit or something just to here him teach. Tests are ridiculously hard he expects you know every detail in relation to every other
Do not take any of his classes. I repeat, do not take him. If this is your only class then I MIGHT recommend it. You can study all day everyday and unless you know the book cover to cover, word for word, you might get a C+ if you lucky. I had to drop his class and settle for a W on my transcript instead of a failing grade. If you’re looking for a
This guy is difficult. Do not take his class if you're looking for an easy A. You must be willing to attend evry class and take good notes. A lot of outside reading. His quizes and test always have essays and are pretty hard. He isn't helpful and showed up when he felt like it. I got an A but worked my ass off.
This isn't so much a history class as it is an english one. you can know every single detail about the topic, but if you don't present it in an organized and clear fashion on the test you won't get the grade that you thought you would get when you were memorizing the material. You have to be a good WRITER. good luck even if you are!
Do not take this class, he will crush your dreams... I have always done very well in history courses because both of my parents are history teachers. I was so close to failing I had to withdraw... He is an awful teacher and NEVER there. He cancelled class all the time and expected us to understand everything. He is awful. STAY AWAY
This guy is rediculously hard. He is absolutely brilliant, but you must know every little detail to score well on his quizes and tests. To get an A you probably need to study every night for 3 hours and keep on the reading and study your notes. I am in his class now and i have a B, but i will probably drop his class like most people do. hahahha
Mr. Haines is incredibly intelligent and passionate about history. He does expect the student to really know the material. Be in class EVERY day, take good notes, and do the reading and you'll be fine. It helps to write at a college level because his tests include essay questions. I would recommend him, overall. He's kind of dapper in a way, too.
This guy is the worst teacher I have ever come across. Don't TAKE this. Take Perry at 6am if you have to, he's so much better!!
I DROPPED IT CAUSE I FAILED.
****. This pompous piece of crap only seems smart because of his accent. I honestly believe he finds joy in failing students. By the time we had reached the end of the quarter, only 15 students remained in the class. Im sure half of them failed. I busted my ass for that guy and walked off with a C. TAKE NOTES.
Ruined my near perfect GPA. Got a b-. He's a horrible teacher. History is typically an easy subject; all you have to know is basic facts, dates, and how to critically anaylze these things to draw a conclusion. you can do that in this class, but even if you do you won't be successful. He is very vauge in what he looks for.
Hard,Hard,Hard. you can read recomended and still fail test. Very unclear test questions. DO NOT TAKE
Pretty hard, but not impossible, you need to read the books and pay attention in class, can't stress that part enough, his lectures are the basis of his tests and quizzes. I didn't have the books till after the first quiz and I still got a B because I payed attention to his lectures.
Believe me. My whole class got about 50 percent on the first quiz of this class. This professor doesn't take attendance everyday at all. But if you don't show up, you will probably have nothing to write on your exam. Read book and it will help you a lot. I'm very sure that no one can get A in this class. Hard, but interesting.
Rough! Worst class I've ever had...
Hard, very hard class
I really liked just listening to everything that we discussed in class. He is really good at describing what happened in the past and what the goals of societies were. Although the class was very interesting for me, it was by far the most difficult i have taken. You must go to clas(or get a buddy) and you MUST take notes!(especially 4 the readings)
I got a "C" out of his class. Even though he messed up my grades, I am not gonna say how bad he was. Just one thing that his grading system doesn't make sense. Spending hours trying to memorize all the dates, names, etc. It makes up 20% of your test. 80% of his test are dedicated to essay type questions. 3 of these questions in 45min. You gonna fail
What an interesting class! Eric has this passion for history that makes even the dead-beats interested. He is a wity man as well. Pay good attention to discussions, because what you talk about is going to be an essay question on the test. No real homework though, so sit back and enjoy the past!
Hard class, but completely worth it. If you pay attention and do the readings, you'll be okay. He rarely gives out As, but earing a B feels like an A.
Great teacher from S. Africa. had a great time in his class, even though I ended up getting a bad grade, I learned a lot from him and his lectures. Took his class back in 2000 but still hear he teaches the same way, which is great.
Never take his class. the worst techer ever. I took it online. never got any feedback from him about my quizes. I haven't gotten my final grade after 3 weeks from the end of the quarter.
This class was so interesting! It was really hard, but totally worth it in the end. People complain about how harsh he grades, but I worked hard and got an A-. If you come to class and take good notes you'll do fine.
Great Teacher, hard, but you can learn a lot from him. He gives a totally different point of view than normal history teachers that shows you not just how something happened, but why as well.
Knows what he's talking about and will help you learn to your core. Taking his class early in college will prepare you to do well for the future, but it is a hard class. If you want an easy A not the class for you, but if you want to work for your grades and learn a large quantity of information he's the man for the job.
Show up everyday! He never takes attendance and cares little for homework. Everything on his tests are discussed in class. Tests are extremely difficult and have essay questions about in class discussions. Read the textbook and if you miss a day, get notes for a friend. You have to work hard to pass, but will prepare you for any 4 year college.
HARDEST TEACHER I EVER HAD @ BCC! I came to class at 7:30am every morning, listened, took notes, mapped rediculous time-lines, wrote essays, unclear on test questions, doesn't grade on curve, went to tutoring sessions, and still barely passed the class. He won't bore you, he keeps you interested, if that positive out weights anything?
I am happy with my B. Did I learn anything? Yes! Do I remember it? No. That is the sad part.. When he said "What do you think..." and I tried to answer what I think, he would say you're wrong in front of the whole class. Why ask what I THINK, if you're looking for what YOU think. Anyway, he was okay.
Lecture class! Low HW (Only 3 homework assignments), 4 quizzes(you get to drop lowest score), mid term and final. Attendance optional, but you DEFINITLY should go to class to take lecture notes. Most quiz/test questions based on lectures rather than book. Interesting and passionate teacher, tests are challenging but study and you'll will be fine!
Don't take this teacher for an online class. He was basically non-existent. Though his reading guides for the first 3 weeks were good, the rest were photocopies of the book. His instructions were contradictory and he NEVER participated in group discussions. Nor did he provide commentary after the discussion. He hated having to teach online.
Do not take Haines for an online history class. There is not only a lot of reading, he also expects a very high caliber of writing for all of your discussions and papers. His responses to essay questions are not helpful, and he nit-picks very minute details when the overall essay is clear, correct and adds value to your papers.
Fair but strict. A good teacher but be prepared for lots of study. If you get a good grade, you deserved it. I recommend him.
Tough but fair, this guy will tell you what you need to do and when it's due. I think overall Haines will kick your butt to be a better student. It's not so much you learn from the content but you learn from doing the work. His class helped improve my concentration and study skills.
Hardest teacher ever. He doesn't even go by the text book! if you do not attend class you will fail b/c his quizes and test are from his lectures. He's really intimidating, not helpful, boring, and HARD. 3 hw assignments,6 test including midterm and final, and 3 pop quizes. There is NO EXTRA credit options. Dont take him because you'll be doomed!
Haines is a fantastic lecturer. If you don't plan on coming to class you will not do well because his lectures are heavily weighted. There is no warm and fuzziness to him but he is very fair, straight forward and you will get exactly what you earned. Great for teaching yourself better study habits.
Talks way too quietly. Incredibly confusing.
Enrolled in online class; very difficult. Assignments aren't clear, you need your own research resources, in addition to study materials. Wants essays that exceed the demands of my English courses. I would love to have stayed in his class, but I had to drop with my course load. Not interested in creating class atmosphere online.
Despite his aloof and oftentimes intimidating demeanor, Eric Haines is probably the darndest thing I have ever seen. Incredibly passionate about history. Attend class daily, study hard, and think critically! He is not interested in mere regurgitation of facts; you must fit the pieces together. A tough, but amply reasonable grader. Quality teacher!
He demands much, but this will in turn make you a better student.
I was taking classes considered to be way harder than history(o-chem, calc, biol.etc)However when I took history with Hanes, and learned chapters assigned in the book for 1 test from A to Z, still got a C.Wow. talked to his assistant and he replied:"Maybe this class is too hard for you?".Hmm.without thinking I dropped the class!! Run.Run if you can
Instructor was not helpful at all. Does not respond to e-mails. Quizzes and tests are extremely difficult unless you've memorized the material. It is still possible to pass but you won't get a very good grade. He grades very hard and you never know how to improve because he never gives feedback on anything.
Eric's online classes are well-nigh impossible. Be prepared to take copious notes and to give thorough, critical responses. The upside is that Eric displays excellent command over the course material, and he is willing to meet students on campus. All in all, I highly recommend this teacher! Just avoid his online classes.
Demands a lot of memorization, took it online and he grades pretty sternly. If your good at reading a lot and memorizing its good, if not you'll have a tough time.
I normally really like history, however I am not a historian....Haines needs to keep that in mind when he is dealing with his students... You can read the book all you want, take notes, work extrememly hard on those discussion topics and still come out with a bad grade...He tends to have sarcastic tendencies... He is definitely a people person...
DO NOT TAKE if you do not want to bust your butt just to even earn a "C," you are emotionally sensitive, or if you know you are going to miss more than two days of class. Apart from being difficult, Haines is harsh and mean, and he won't put up with even the smallest shortcomings. He is only for the most resilient and intellectually capable student
He's very passionate about history and will always ask at the start of class if anyone has any questions. Cares about his students. Just study very hard. I studied for about 8 hours for his test and got a C on it! This is my favorite class though so far this quarter.
Eric makes this class very difficult, especially for a 101 class. His quiz questions are more interpretive than literal, meaning you have to fully understand the reading and have it memorized to get a good grade. I like history, but he has put me off from the subject.
Eric is a poignant reminder that not all instructors are nice people. He is a history wizard, and he may help to improve your skills, but is it worth it when he ignores your e-mails, interrupts you, or yells when you are incorrect? The most prominent thing I learned from him was how to be a ****. He cares about performance, not your feelings.
This instructor is extremely passive aggressive.
Worst teacher I've EVER had. His lectures will put you to sleep, his tests are on material that's not in the textbook or his discussions, and he brags to classes that no one has ever received an A in his class. Typical example of someone who couldn't make it in the real world.
Worst class ever. The directions were very unclear. The tests were extremely hard. Though this was an intro history class we were expected to fully grasp the content. At times Mr. Haines expected us to know topics that were not even covered in the course material. WARNING: Do not take his onlince class!
I took this course online several quarters ago, and he was little to no help. I would email him with questions, and he would tell me to check the confusing blackboard page. Unfortunately the BB page was very vague. He also has his own grading scale, and an A is nearly impossible to come by. If your itchin for a painful quarter take this teacher!!
Online class. Instructor seemed absent for most of it, but the instructions were extremely clear and he sent e-mails clarifying when necessary. Tests were difficult.;;
Rigorous history lessons, lots of detail. This class requires dedication. Prepare to give precise short essay answers for homework and exams and quizzes. Eric has a passion for history. It is enjoyable to listen to his lectures. He expects you to share the passion!
Very intelligent, very knowledgeable. However, he was very rude and unkind to my classmates and me! I felt I could have learned better if he were more respectful and friendly.
This professor would never email me back, and would rarely be active.
I just flat expect more from a college level professor. From poor English and grammar to homework questions that are far from clear, it is painfully obvious the amount of time he took for preparation. When a text books material is clearly mostly is based off of theories, he continues to ask for facts that support ?insightful responses?. It?s really
This teacher is absolutely horrible. I took his history class online, and so regret it. Whenever I emailed him with a question, he was extremely condescending, if he answered me at all. I worked my butt off and my final grade was a C. The lowest grade I had ever received at Bellevue was a B+, so what does that tell you? DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
If I didn't know any better, I'd say this guy prides himself on being disrespectful towards his students.
After just taking this class, my overall feeling is that Eric Haines, like other online instructors, hands out reading materials and assignments but doesn't involve himself in teaching the class. If you take his class, you must be extremely dedicated and motivated, or you will fail. This is a very difficult class considering it's a lvl 100 course.
Took his online summer class. The reading was intense and the lectures useless. The quizzes and exams covered minute details and the information was not always found in the text OR the lectures. Professor was inactive and condensing. This was one of the WORST classes I have taken and the professor was horrible, avoid if possible!
Reading assignments didn't match up with the discussion questions asked.
I'm taking this class online, and I have to say, he is not very helpful at all. He frequently sends out condescending emails to all of us about how we "missed the point" of the discussion posts. For tests, he gives us 25 minutes for 25 questions, making it near impossible unless you REALLY know all the answers. Take this class in person if possible
Mr. Haines was by far the worst online class I've ever had. He was condescending, absent for weeks at a time, his study guides did not match up with the tests, and he generally participated very little within the class. Don't take this class if you think you're going to get an easy A...for a 100 level class, the amount of work was ridiculous.
I took two courses from Haines years ago (in person). I learned SO much information from him. I failed both of his classes and he wasn't pleasant but ironically the information and passion for history and learning he passed onto me has been invaluable in my life since then. I'm forever grateful!
I took this class online and ended up having to withdraw. The discussions were basically impossible to complete without being the first to post, and the requirements for each post were completely ridiculous. He was condescending and not helpful at all. Do not take this class if you like your GPA where it is.
Haines gave us a book for the quarter that did not have all of the chapters we needed. When we asked him about it he said oops you need to go buy another book for 120 bucks. His study guides never lined up and he gives you little time on the test to answer his abstract questions that require you to memorize the text or look for an answer in 5 secs.
Exceedingly unpleasant personality. Insults students. Does not respond to e-mails. Does not care about student success.
He told me he was too busy to give students feedback.
Worst class I've ever taken. Ridiculous workload for a 100 lvl class. I'm an A student and I'll be lucky to pull a C. I spent 6 hrs studying for a quiz(in addtn to MANY hours of reading and note-taking) and still did badly. Asks you to hypothesize why historical events occurred, and if he disagrees, you fail. Questions are about minute details. RUN
Honestly the worst professor I've ever encountered at BC. Quiz questions are misleading with multiple completely correct answers. When you ask him why you got it incorrect he literally shrugs you off as if what you think doesn't matter. Another things is that he doesn't grade your big point discussion posts until near end of the quarter. AVOID!!!!!
Terribly arrogant, petty. I have a BA already and took this class for additional Master's prereqs. Baffling behavior. "Discussion" assignments ask you to analyze and theorize why historical events took place but if he disagrees at ALL with any detail ofyour analysis, you lose points and risk failure in the class. Agree with previous rater: "RUN."
This man effectively made me hate history. Study notes poorly written with spelling/grammar mistakes, and totally useless for tests. Studied for hours only to barely pass. Way too much work for a 100-level course-this class literally gave me ulcers. Got the feeling he didn't actually read my essays. Was a 4.0 student, not anymore. Avoid if you can.
Listen to the other reviews! I didn't read his and I highly regret it. Only 30 minutes for 25 questions on all quizzes including the midterm and final. Condescending and is impossible to get a hold of.He grades based upon his opinion and not what your writing holds. I'm normally an A-B student and I will be getting out of this with a C maybe. AVOID
He never ever EVER answers e-mails regardless of importance or how many you send. Baffling and infuriating! I could have learned more than just what was in the text if he bothered to answer.
Pretty much the worst teacher possible. His directions were vague and confusing, he hasn't graded anything in a month, his tests are difficult, and he does little to teach except assign readings from the text.
He assigns readings and grades discussions at the last minute - that's it. He doesn't respond to emails about course material or grades and doesn't participate. If you continue to press the issue with him, he will finally respond and tell you that he is "too busy" to help you. (Too busy with what? Too busy with not doing his job?!) Utterly useless.
Be prepared for self-driven work. Online class had no instructor interaction unless you called his office. Lots of book reading/memorization. Quizzes were hard. Take in person if you need more interaction.
I'm taking his 102 class online right now and it will be the first history class I have ever failed. His quizzes and midterms often times do not cover what he has in assigned readings or his syllabus over all. He took my love of history and ruined it and possibly my entire academic career.
Has you read textbooks then test on material either arguing text or even from text. Online notes and tests often include information not from text. Tests are on very specific information over a broad spectrum of material. Has told a student that he himself has not written a perfect paper, when the student was inquiring about how to improve essays.
This was the hardest class that I have ever taken. Expect tons and tons of reading from the textbook for homework. His tests are super confusing. I would study for hours and yet fail my tests. He doesn't take attendance which is really nice. He is super hard to talk to after class too.
He is clearly a professor who knows his history, but does not necessarily have any business teaching it. Having received my BA at a top 20 university I did not expect to encounter one of the hardest classes I've taken at BC. Often, I will read the 3-4 chapters required for a week and the discussion will be on a completely different chapter.
This class was extremely difficult for a 100 level class. I will never take any of his classes again. If you have a good GPA and are thinking of taking this class, RUN!!!!!
I took three courses from him--online and on campus--and I went on to a top-25 university where I am now studying history. His tests and assignments are DIFFICULT but they will prepare you for university expectations. Show up to office hours in person if you have trouble contacting him. Great teacher but don't take if you don't major in history.
He always had an excuse not to meet during office hours. Every time I have attempted to talk to him about the course material after class he has literally walked away from me as I'm mid-sentence. AVOID. He does not care about students AT ALL.
He rarely responds to emails. When or if he does interact with you he is disrespectful and rude and comes up with reasons not to meet with you. He has standards, which is fine, but he is completely unwilling to help, participate or be involved with students WHATSOEVER beyond grading them -- which he does at the last minute.
One of the worst professors I've had. Quizzes and test were difficult and used phrases and terms never discussed or used in any of the material assigned. I personally got very little out of this course other than the credit, definitely not recommended.
Took this class last summer and was definitely the worst class I have taken at Bellevue College. Prof Haines was rude and insensitive. Takes forever to grade, does not teach AT ALL, responds with only negatives. Syllabus and assignments were wrong (read chapter x but respond to chapter y) Complain to higher ups! It is the only way to make it stop!
Passive aggressive and unhelpful.
Teacher was unclear in instructions, and provided unhelpful and insulting feedback. Be prepared for large amounts of reading, in which most of the information won't be relevant to the quizzes and midterm exam. Overall experience: Ambiguous, lots of work, unhelpful feedback, and a shot to the GPA. Not worth it, don't take the class.
Disrespectful, insulting, unprofessional, frequently cancelled class, rarely provided feedback, ignored emails, incompetent.
He crushed my hopes and dreams.
Lengthy guidelines for discussions, leading to uncertainty about what he wants. Also if you half ass it you receive a c but if you try but are not a perfect student you may squeak by with a b
Feedback is abusive, when he deigns to respond at all.
Behaves unprofessionally towards students and grades accordingly. Do not take.
Extremely difficult class - around 30% of quizzesfinals are outside any material covered in the textbook or lecture notes. Professor difficult to get hold of - you have to be very persistent. I spent around 20 hours study timeweek. I will never take another history class even though it was my favorite subject.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. If you don't listen I warned you. The first month of class, there was 1 assignment. No communication on anything. . The course page is a MESS! I check the site one day, everything is still undated. Next day, 2 midterms and a discussion. The midterm is based on "note taking assignments" that don't exist..
Zero guidance on anything. Mostly guesswork on what to do. I'm amazed the teacher is even employed
This is probably one of the worse professors I've ever taken. He did nothing at all to interact with his students. He's condescending in his emails and gives us questions that argue it rather than having a direct answer. He hasn't graded any assignments and takes like 10 days to respond to your emails. Way too much work for a 100-level class.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. It is two months into the quarter and Haines hasn't graded one assignment. We have had no interaction from him. He takes forever to respond to emails. He added that we were having 2 midterms 5 days before the due date. He also said we were going to online conferences, which never happened.
There is a ton of reading, tests don't match up to the information provided in each chapter. With 2 weeks left of the quarter, not one assignment had been graded. Zero communication with his students. I was registered to take another history class spring quarter and dropped it, based on my experience with this class.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. There was little communication with the students. Even the teacher that took over the class at the end of the quarter did not respond to my e-mails. I do not recommend this class unless you are really good at reading large quantities and enjoy history.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Don't take him, or you'll end up here where I am, full of regret attempting to warn everyone from this joke of a human being. Why even teach if you so clearly hate it? He's an unhappy, failure at life and it shows. Only bright side to this class is you know everyone there will end up better than him.
didn't give any feedback to any assignments when he did grade them, and had one assignment graded two weeks before the end of the quarter. tests were difficult and for the most part, not covered in the textbook
Does not respond to emails and takes forever to grade.
This instructor is awful. Took Hist101 online and had a terrible experience. Hasn't graded papers from 2 months ago. Tests are mostly interpretive questions that don't have answers you'd find in your notes or a book. No one in my entire class has ever received 100% on ANYTHING. Highest test score is a 90. AVOID.
Very unorganized. Tests are impossible. Doesn't respond to emails. Worst class I've ever taken. If you have him... good luck.
This class was a giant mess. I was constantly confused on assignments and expectations. A class which was 100 level turns into a class geared for more experienced history students. I didn't learn anything through this professor, only through the book.
For a 100 level class, the workload was ridiculous. It was impossible to keep up with the reading. There is one week left in the quarter and not one assignment has been graded. Haines completely ruined history for me. Stay away from this instructor.
Not engaged & expects a lot for a beginning History class. We've only heard from him start of the Q & when posting assign & quizzes. Discussion questions weren't graded till end of quarter!! Also, since quizzes and test are based off of analytical understanding answers on quizzes/test may become confusing as 1/more answers maybe relevant to you.
His quizzes are impossible and the discussions get graded harshly. If you have to take a history class take any one but him. The worst part was the tests because he tells you what to study and none of that matters because it won't be on the test he also words questions weirdly you almost cannot understand them. Pass on his class
Took this professor online. Was exceedingly rude, rarely responded to emails and the entire course was disorganized. Would not recommend. I'm amazed his level of "professionalism" is tolerated.
There was hardly any guidance; If i remember correctly we had an analysis report every week on the chapters we read, and I really did try my best to make these really thought out; I couldn't break past anything better than a D+ and i never got feedback on them. One of my worst investment decision I've made, But i wouldn't take it back, Cheers m8.
Abysmally condescending, unprofessional attitude. This instructor would benefit largely from a professional development course on basic people skills. Those whose professions involve people must have the skills to deal with people, period. VERY rude.
Low empathy. Rarely answered e-mails and furnished insulting and unhelpful comments in feedback. Tests were disorganized and sometimes contained topic material that was never covered. He waited until the end of the quarter to grade assignments so you could never gauge your own performance. Completely disengaged, bad attitude and unhelpful.
