Very helpful and informative. Goes slow through the material and even provides the student with a practice exam the weekend prior to the test. Best math teacher I've ever had.
You can't help but love him. Great teacher. You can't bomb the final though because it is 40% of your grade !
I went to class maybe 10 times the entire semester and finished with an A+, however I had taken precal in high school. The material is pretty easy to teach yourself, but he goes slow to make sure everyone gets it. He gives practice exams a few days before the test which are by far the best way to study. Laid back guy, and decent teacher.
This guy is really nice and goes slow with the material. If you will take the time to do the homework, there is no reason why you should not make an "A." He grades the test on a 105 pt scale, but he takes the grade out of 100, so there is a chance for 5 bonus points on every test. I highly recommend this teacher.
Does not care one bit about the student. I needed a D to graduate and he wouldn't bump me the one extra point. Also he has an incrediably monotone voice and is in general an ass. My Dad had a stroke so I missed a month of class and he still wouldn't help me. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE NOT A MATH GENIUS!
Great teacher. Grades tests 105 out of 100. Gives practice exams before each exam. Practice problems help.
There are 5 tests in a semester including the final. He gives practice test which are extremely similar to the actual test. The thing I did not like about his class is there are no other grades besides the test and he does not round. So if you rely on homeworkquizzes to help your grade then don't take him. I had a 79 and he would not round to a B.
Good teacher. Very clear. A little harsh when it comes to grading, but pretty simple class
An A requires effort, but not much. I barely went to class and still got a B. Gives about 5 bonus points every test. I got As on the first two tests, then got overconfident and stopped going to class or studying and got Cs on the next two. Just go to class consistently and you will probably get an A. Also he is American so that helps for clarity.
Easy class if you attend regularly and pay attention. Doing the homework really helps for clarity. He is very good at explaining so ask questions if you're confused. The 5 extra bonus points on every test really helps.
Easiest math class I've ever taken. Gives partial credit and got 100 on almost every test. Homework is not required, but is helpful. He's a nice guy.
He speaks clear english, gives you a study guide for the tests that are exactly what will be on the test, and leaves time in class for any questions you have on the NOT MANDATORY homework or on the material in general. At Auburn I can not stress enough how often math teachers can not be understood due to language barriers. I have him for Pre-Cal.
Mr. Harshbarger is a very good teacher. He does problems on the board and was very helpful when I was having trouble in another math class. Even though I did not take his class, my sister did, he allowed me to sit in on his lectures so that I could understand the material better.
If you get him for math, you're lucky! Super easy class, he sends out identical practice tests before the real ones and grades the tests with a 5-point safety net. Technically you don't even need the book and you don't have to do the homework, he's a cool dude and I would definitely take his class again.
As someone who has struggled with math in the past, Mr. Harshbarger was a serious blessing. He taught the material in a way that was super easy to understand, and an A is very easy to obtain in his class. Homework is not required but helpful. Attendence is also not required, but it can be difficult to understand the material without the lectures.
There are 8 take-home quizzes and a take-home final. All are relatively easy. If you aren't good at math, go to class. If you are, you can ease by only going on the days he hands out a quiz. He is a nice guy who is willing to help you understand. If you just need the credit, take this class!
Lots of homework but its optional. Gives clear instructions during class and is very easy to understand. Attendance is not mandatory but it helps a ton in the end. Only grades on the semester however are the tests, there are 6. 5 throughout the year and the final exam at the end.
He is an excellent teacher. He always explains math problems thoroughly and does not skip over the "easy steps" so to speak. He is very clear and his practice tests are almost identical to the actual test, but the test questions are a little bit harder than the practice test. Homework is optional, but it is best to look over a few of the problems.
He genuinely cares about his students and makes us laugh as he lectures. No matter how hard or boring the topic he is teaching is, he continues to keep our attention and make it easy to understand.
He is a great teacher. If you go to class and do at least some of the homework, you'll make a good grade. He spends the first part of every class going over that hw so you can catch up if you're lost. You have a practice exam before every test (that he goes over in class), and only the 5 tests and final count towards your final grade.
Good at explaining everything in very clear examples and his practice tests were useful for last minute studying
This is a truly amazing professor. He needs to be recognized for how good of a job he does. He genuinely cares about his students and wants us to do well. He answers any questions you have and explains everything thoroughly. His tests are very fair and he isnt trying to trick you or put horrible problems on the exam. If you can take him, DO IT!
This is hands down the best math professor at Auburn. Literally such an amazing teacher that doesn't make it complicated, he teaches the most basic way and isn't trying to confuse you. Always answers questions and is willing to explain anything. It's hard material but he does everything he can to really help you learn it right. So much respect.
This is a guy that truly cares about his student's success and wants them to do well. He lectures very clearly and teaches everything extremely well, even if you arent a "math person". He doesnt skip the "simple steps" or assume that we should know the easy stuff, he covers literally everything to make sure you aren't confused. Class act. Take him!
He is a great teacher and makes practice exams that are almost identical to the real exams. He gives you plenty of practice and times to get help, he really wants you to do well!
Harshbarger may be the best math teacher I've ever had. He gives solid lectures and his material is easy to understand. He doesn't take attendance, but you need to go to his class if you want to pass. He also gives a lot of homework, but none of it is graded. If he's teaching a math class, you want him to be your professor.
Lectures everyday
He goes over notes quickly, but they are very helpful. He gives out practice tests which are always a very good basis for how the next test will be. He also gives a lot of homework, but the only grades in the class are tests. He is a very nice guy and will always help students as much as possible after class.
Good at explaining difficult problems and doesnt make the tests harder than they need to be
I love Eric Harshbarger! He does not assume that you already know the information which is great. Homework and attendance are not mandatory but I recommended doing both anyway. Your grade is dependent on 4, 100 point test and the final
I love Mr. Harshbarger. He was the best math teacher I have ever had. Paying attention to lecture and doing some of the homework for practice will totally help on the tests. He explains the information super clearly and will answer any question you have. He also is a super fair grader and gives you as many points as possible on the tests. Take him!
There are 6 exams all semester, including the final. Your final grade comes from these test grades alone, but he is an amazing lecturer and doesn't assume you know the material previously. He really starts with the basics. He never cancels class and lectures everyday, but I never did the suggested homework and made an A. I would take him again!
Not a hard class. Grade is based on 5 tests and final. Homework isn't graded. If you don't show up to class, the tests don't really make sense, but attendance isn't mandatory.
by far the best professor I've ever had. You can tell this man is a genius but he doesn't expect you to be. study guides are given for every test and the exam is just a slightly harder version. attendance isn't mandatory but I highly recommend going anyways or attending office hours, he wont disappoint!
Amazing lecturer, very clear about what is expected of you. Gives study guides for every test that are the same format as the test. Textbook is used for homework questions, but the homework isn't required even though you should do it. Tests also have 5 built in bonus points so you automatically get an extra +5 on them.
The sweetest professor! I took this math even though i couldve taken math 1000 or something easier and I do not regret it one bit. Only grades are the 5 tests and finals but its not bad. I am not a math person but I went to every SI session and am gonna end with an A.
Great teacher, very good at explaining problems, sometimes oversimplifying them (in a good way.) Suggests homework but doesn't grade it. If you come to class, you will know what to expect and he also emails a practice test with answer key out for every test. He also seems very reasonable when it comes to questions, help, and grading.
Attendance is not really mandatory but if you show up to class you will pass his tests. He gives a practice test that is almost identical to the actual exam. He is very detailed in his explanations and is not hard at all. He does assign homework but it is for you to do. He will not grade it. 10 out of 10 and would take again.
Dr. Harshbarger doesn't require you to go to class but if you do you are guaranteed a good grade. His practice exams are always identical to the exams. He assigns homework that is optional, but do it!! it helps a ton, and he'll go over it the next class.
If you can take this man, do it! Most Auburn math professors make their classes harder than necessary, but Harsh does not. Attendance not mandatory. The practice tests are basically the same as the real tests. No homework. For the final, study the study guide the department posts. The questions are very very similar! Go through that&youve got an A
His lectures are clear, concise, and extremely helpful from start to finish; he wants you to learn. 5 tests and the final are your grades, which helps IF you study. It's a tough subject but he makes it understandable for you. If you put forth good effort and participation, you're solid. He is very nice and helpful, and will make sure you understand
By far the BEST math professor I've ever had!! He explains things in a clear, concise way, and genuinely wants you to understand the material. If you are ever confused you can talk to him after class or go to his office hours, and he will clear things up for you immediately. He doesn't grade homework but what he does grade, he grades fairly.
If you have the chance TAKE THIS CLASS. He was easily the best math teacher I've ever had. You don't need to buy web assign (because all homework is optional, and from the book) If you go to class and do the practice tests (which he gives you) you will be fine. There is no extra credit or homework grades (There are 5 tests, each worth 20%)
Harsh knows what he's doing and he is a nice guy but the lack of literally any grades other than tests makes his class the hardest one I have ever taken. I like the guy but you couldn't pay me to take one of his classes again unless he were to give more than just test grades.
This professor is so good, the only downfall to his class is there are no other grades than the test. So you have to be sure to do really well on every test.
Eric is a really professor and you should do fine as long as you go to class and do the homework.
Best math teacher I ever had. He gives hard tests, but he assigns "suggested problems" to do at home and spends a good chunk of the beginning of class answering questions about them (even if you dont do the problems, the review helps). Only downside is your entire grade is tests. But compared to his tests, the final was cake. I made a 99 on it.
I'd say that Professor Harshbarger is by far and away the best mathematics professor I've learned under and is among the best of any other kind. He has a very clear way of articulating concepts for those who are unfamiliar or have been out of school for a while. His grading criteria is limited, but there are opportunities for extra credit.
When it comes to Calculus teachers, Harshbarger is probably the best you'll get. He enjoys working out homework problems and explaining any questions you have so even though it's not for a grade, DO THE HOMEWORK and ASK QUESTIONS. He will spend plenty of time making sure you'll understand. And study because the only grades are the tests!
TAKE HIM! He is one of the best math teachers I have ever had!! Do the suggested problems and ask questions and you will be good. I learned a lot from him and didn't mind coming to class everyday. If you go to class and do the work you will be successful!!! A really nice guy and a great teacher
This class is very simple, go to class, do the homework and do the practice exams. He is very straight forward and wants you to do well. He takes time to make sure you understand the concepts and will go over examples until you do. He only grades on tests(5) and they are very similar to the practice ones he sends out. Would for sure take again!
Attendance isn't mandatory but notes from lectures are more useful than trying to learn it yourself. Homework isn't required either but keep up with it, it's not that much. His practice tests are VERY similar to actual tests and he doesn't grade very harshly. Only grades are 5 tests + final which all count for the same so STUDY and it's an easy A/B
Mr. Harshbarger was a great math teacher, he explained the why behind why we do those problems and it helped a lot, he also is kind of old school in the way he teaches which I personally liked but I know some don't, he doesnt use canvas but as long as you come to class to get your tests you should be fine he explains math very well
Believe the hype! Mr. Harshbarger is the man. Some tips to succeed in this class: go to every lecture, take great notes, DO THE HOMEWORK, go to office hours, work the practice tests multiple times before exams. The homework is not mandatory but exam Qs are pulled from there. Honestly, the best experience I've had with a math class/math professor.
Fail 1 or 2 tests and you fail the whole course. I have to retake the class, but overall though he is a pretty decent professor. he gives partial credit on tests which is a plus but make sure you memorize formulas, some tests had 26 formulas. I failed 2 tests and made A's and B's on the rest and an 85 on the final and still failed the class :/
Lectures are easy to follow, but tests are a lot harder than what is reviewed in class. He gives study guides, but are very easy compared to what is on tests. Your grade is made up of 5 tests and that's it.
Great, clear, easy to reach teacher. Just sucks that it is math. The best teachers teach the hardest subjects is true here. Great guy, lectures are a need, and you must study. Otherwise you will not pass and he can't grant that much wiggle room being in the math department.
This class was very easy for me because I knew the material already. The prof is pretty boring but he does a very good job of explaining how to actually do the math, so what more can you ask for? He seems caring enough for his students and the tests were pretty easy and exactly like the homework. I would recommend.
He is a good teacher and I think he does a great job considering how hard the actual course is. It is gonna take a lot of effort, but it is definitely passable.
I had him online. He did synchronous classes, which were helpful because you could ask questions in real time. He's very forward about his grading process and goes over the material well. Honestly would take him again.
Harshbarger's class is not difficult at all. He lectures during class time and you usually have 2-4 quizzes due every Sunday. The homework is not for a grade, but I would definitely recommend doing it, it's great practice and it definitely helped. He doesn't give extra credit, and attendance is a part of your grade, so go to class. It was an easy A
This course was different for me than most because it was entirely online; however, this course is pretty easy if you are good at math and put in effort. You will have to attend class and do your homework, but Harshbarger is a great teacher. He will do as many examples as you ask, and genuinely is nice! Highly Recommend!
Dr Harshbarger is a great professor. I highly recommend him. He takes time before every class to answer homework questions and his office hours are useful. He cares for the students and has a good way of explaining and teaching the material. Very friendly and funny and his test are not bad as long as you study. Sign up for him you won't regret it.
The only grades are from unit exams, but they aren't hard if you pay attention. He makes sure to leave time in class if anyone has questions. Very straightforward, would definitely take again.
He does not round up grades. 89.6 B not an A!
Hes very great at what he does. Hes caring, friendly, easy to listen to and very clear. I wish I could take him for all my math classes.
This professor is such a great math teacher. He makes everything very clear, will answer any questions you have, and makes sure to give you plenty of material to prepare for his tests. He also gives practice tests that are extremely similar to his real tests. He actually makes me not hate math.
Such a good math professor. If I could take him for all the math classes I need I would!! Tests are exactly like the practice tests he gives. Pay attention in class and youre fine. He explains it very well.
As someone who has taken this course in high school, this class was a breeze, but the way he teaches makes everything so much easier to understand if you're new or need a refresher. He offers optional homework and answers any questions at the start of class. Never stay the full 50 minutes, super kind, take him if you can.
The class is test heavy with the only other graded assignments being the test reviews. The last couple of tests were harder even for someone who took AP calc in high school but the class overall was very manageable with a busy schedule. Eric is super awesome in explaining everything clearly for anyone with any level of math.
This professor is a very good teacher and I loved him but the test was very hard later in the semester and there are no other grades other than reviews.
I loved his class!! Attendance isn't mandatory, but I would go because he gives helpful info in class. Grades based on tests and theyre pretty easy except for one. Hes a great guy and is really helpful if you need it!! I would 100% take him again!!
Eric Harshberger was an amazing professor! He helped make math approachable and easy to understand. I enjoyed how he structured the class and always felt prepared for the exams. There were only 5 tests and he warned us ahead of time if they were traditionally difficult. Homework isnt required but you should. There is a graded review before tests
Dr. Harshbarger is an amazing professor. He really helps you understand the math and teaches it in a way that is easy to learn. The only grades for this class are the 5 exams and the exam reviews plus the final. The homework is optional, but it's extremely important to do if you want to succeed in this class. Very respectable and knowledgeable man.
This is the first year I actually liked math. He does very good at teaching so that everyone understands, but is not bored of the context he is teaching. Attendance is not for a grade but you really should go to get the info!! He tries to give points where he can when grading the tests. No hw for a grade but there is a graded review before tests.
You are graded on very few things only 5 tests the 5 reviews and the final all tests including the final were work 15% of your grade and the remaining 10% was the reviews. Gives practice test before each test and they are basically the same thing as the test. Assigns a ton of homework but it is all optional and not for a grade
Very good teacher as long as you go to class you will pass. Homework and attendance are not mandatory, but I highly recommend doing the work and going and asking questions because he is good at explaining. 11/10 he was funny too
I absolutely loved this class! Eric Harshbarger is a wonderful teacher. I learned very well in this class and you will do well if you apply yourself. I would suggest attending every lecture and completing the homework assignments. He is always open to answering questions.
Was awful will never take his class again. Only gives 5 grades and hard to understand his teaching. Math is my best subject and he made me hate it. Can not get any help from him so be prepared to teach yourself. Could say a lot more but I felt I got my message across.
Hes very nice! Dont have to come to class and his tests arent hard except for the 3rd and 4th. Most students had taken Pre-Cal during COVID so we only learned half the material. We covered in 1 test what I learned in 1 semester in private school. No homework! Only 11 grades. Web Assign is rude. I made an 84 on exam and only studied for 3 hours.
While class is not mandatory I recommend going. He is not helpful at all and hard to talk to. While I had taken pre-cal before in highschool, I still did not do well in the class. I made As on all tests except for one and there are no other grades to help you.
Good professor but he goes a little fast sometimes. Homework is optional. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't show up each day then you'll be very behind. The practice test are literally the test with different numbers so you know exactly what to expect each test. There are 5 test and the 4th is by far the hardest, the rest are easy.
This man is a king for no reason. It's not hard if you actually study which I didn't nor did I go to class. Homework is optional, so basically just the tests are your grade. He gives a practice test that is very close to the real one. lectures I did go to, he seemed to explain well and doesn't mind answering questions. I actually tried on final-82
The only grades for this class are a few tests and the final, but if you come to the lectures and study its pretty easy. He gives out practice tests and goes over them in class. He wants to help you and make sure you do well.
I hate math but I loved taking Harshbarger's class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but going to class helps SO MUCH. Only have 4 or 5 exams with graded reviews before, so not a lot of wiggle room with grading but the tests are easy and he's really good about helping students if you ask questions or stay after. Would definitely take again.
I really like and recommend this professor! I took him for pre-cal and he was great. As long as you go to class you will pass! He does test reviews and practice tests before each test. The practice tests are gone over in class and are almost identical to the real test.
He was a great professor and explained stuff well. His class was just difficult for me, not his fault. show up to class! Structured where only 5 exams make up final grade. No extra credit and does not drop an exam. The webassign reviews are overly complicated and never helped on test, but they raise your grade. He grades super fairly.
Although class is not mandatory, if you do not go you will fail. During class, he will tell you similar problems to expect on the tests. Your entire grade is based solely on tests. He is a good lecturer and explains things if you ask him. As long as you do homework problems and pay attention in class you should make a good grade.
I do personally like professor Harshbarger, he did crush my dreams a little when he refused to round by 79.97 to a B at the end of the year after having a B all semester, the final is hard. Anyways, he is hard to speak to and he teaches so fast. He gives insane amounts of homework problems too, but overall a very likable guy.
This man is a legend. Walks in wearing timbs and a plain colored Tshirt everyday and you know he throws on that sweater when it gets cold. I thought this class was fun and he the best professor in auburn and I forgive him for counting my 89.46 as a B.
HE IS THE BEST. Gives practice exam that is the test just different numbers. You dont have to turn in homework. Funny guy super chill. Use textbook for homework he provides extra problems if you need help. He is also a professional Lego builder!
Hands down the best math professor I ever had so far. He explains concepts very well and lays them out so it was easy to understand. He also works out example problems similar to ones on the exams. He dedicates a day to going over a practice exam before the actual test and works out homework problems that students had questions about.
Attendance is not mandatory, but it is in your best interest to show up. He does a very good job teaching and explaining the material, and gives a study guide the week before the test and then goes over it the day before the test. The study guide is usually exactly the test just different problems, which lets you know what exactly you need to know.
If you have to take math 1150, take him! He is good at what he does. I liked his class because it was straightforward. Attendance and homework problems not mandatory but highly encouraged. Class is mainly in person and he never cancelled. Going to the math tutoring center, office hours, and participating really helped me do well.
I loved this professor. The only grades are test grades but he is really good about partial credit. I personally have not gone to office hours but when I have asked questions after class he has been more than happy to help. I really enjoyed his teaching style and learned well from him. I would recommend him to everyone! He's the best
Very straightforward. Wouldn't push back tests for personal emergencies. All tests were almost exact copies of the practice exams, and all the questions came from the textbook. Explains things really well and always encourages the class to ask questions. Will not drop any grades, offer extra credit, or round up grade. Grade is 4 exams and final
He was my favorite professor this semester by far! Although I did not do as good in the class as I wanted to I think the way he teaches is very easy to understand. He makes the material difficult without making you want to drop out. You have 5 tests and a final. Attendance is not mandatory but you have to go to class to do good. I highly recommend!
I love Harshbarger!! His lectures are thorough about explaining the topic. He also provides a schedule at the beginning of the semester that tells you what sections he will cover that day. My only problems with the class are that your grade is only based on 5 tests and the final and he doesn't round your grade. But overall he is an amazing teacher
Dr. Harshbarger is a very good lecturer, I really felt like I left class understanding the material we went over. His class is composed of 5 test grades + the final grade, so you have to study for tests. Its a great class, as long as you show up and study for tests! He's very helpful outside of class and the study guide is exactly like the test.
He was a good professor. I liked his class well enough. Textbook was online, and in my opinion, not even necessary. Go to class and take notes and you'll be fine for tests. Very understanding when I emailed him about possibly missing an exam date. He's very clear with examples on the boards and will answer questions.
Attendance is not mandatory but going to the lectures really helps. The study guides are virtually the same as the tests, and homework is not taken for a grade. His class is well organized, and he teaches the material well. He will not give you any sort of extra credit, and is strict about makeup tests, but other than that he is a great professor.
He is a great teacher but not so great of a person. I got covid for the last regular test and sent him a University approved excuse from the doctor and still made me come in while sick to take the test.
Honestly, not a bad professor. This class is a little difficult because there are very little graded opportunities. You will have 5 tests and then the final and those are the only grades you will have. There is no homework that is required or any quizzes. He does provide practice exams, except for the final, which will help you on the tests.
This is class is going to be difficult but Mr Harshbarger makes it bearable. Class isn't mandatory but you should go or you won't do well. There are 5 tests and the final and that's it, so you have to do well on those. I recommend doing the homework he assigns bc it will help your grade. Ask questions if you have them bc he is willing to help.
Your grade depends on 4 tests and a final which all have equal weight. He doesn't scale or round. He's pretty good at teaching the material though and while he doesn't require attendance I definitely recommend going to class.
I really liked him, I paid attention in class but never did the homework. You will have 5 tests and a final all worth the same. There is built in 5 points extra credit on every test which is very nice. The 4th test was super hard so be sure to do well on the first three tests so that your grade will still be good if you do bad on the 4th test!
Great professor, just make sure you go to every class and take notes. Class is not mandatory, but you will not make a good grade if you do not go and take notes. The tests are mostly just like the study guides, but the tests are the only things that go into Canvas so you have to make sure you do well on all of them, or there's no coming back.
10/10 recommend. Absolute chad.
Harshbarger's class was overall a great experience. Your whole grade is calculated based on 5 regular exams and one final exam. The exams themselves were not bad. Studying is definitely a must. Important to note - he does not round grades AT ALL (i.e. an 89.9 would be a B, not an A). However, he is a great lecturer and always willing to help.
hes great. hw is not required but encouraged. he gives study guides that are the same as test just numbers changed. go to class.
i love this man. his class is just so simple and easy to understand. do the homework!!! it's not required but very helpful. gives 5 built-in points on exams b/c he doesn't drop any (6 total). his practice exams are pretty similar to the real exam. he's very willing to explain something to you in class if you don't get it. don't be afraid to ask
I'll start off by saying Harshbarger is not a bad teacher. Just beware the only grades come from 5 exams and a final. There is no homework or quizzes for credit so if you are not a good test taker, you probably won't pass. Also, he gives out practice exams but the real exams are always harder than the practice exams are.
Prof. Harshbarger is actually a great teacher BUT your grade is only dependent on 5 exams + the final. I made 3 100s on exams (4 including the final) but still ended up with a C because the 2nd & 4th exams were his hardest. its hard to get a good grade in this class after failing 1 exam. practice as much as possible & go to study partners
Easily my favorite teacher. He really does care about his students and how they learn. He is happy to explain anything and does not make you feel bad for asking a question. He is the only teacher I have had that does not refer me to the GTA's if I email him, he wants to help himself. Attendance not mandatory but go to class.
I could not imagine a better math professor. Harshburger is a great person, great teacher, and ensures content is covered extensively. He provides resources to succeed and opens up every lecture covering homework questions (homework is not required though). Only downside is your grade is the average of the 5 test given over the semester.
Grade was solely based on tests. Attendance is optional, but I would recommend attending his class to score well. Overall, his lectures were clear and I understood the way he taught.
Overall he is an amazing professor, but your grade in the class is determined by only 5 tests and a final. He has homework, which is not mandatory but would definitely recommend and his practice tests are just like his tests.
Class is very lecture based and this professor really cares about his students. Grade is determined by 6 tests including the final, offers no extra credit (besides 5 extra points on the tests), and does not round up grades. Try not to fail any exams because it can be hard to recover. Do the homework even though it is not required.
If you can do every problem on the practice tests, you'll more than likely do good on the exams. He also grades the exams out of 105 points and usually gives partial credit on missed exam questions.
Your grade in this class is purely based off of 6 exam scores, since HW is optional. Usually as long as you either take notes on the lecture or the textbook the exams won't be too bad. Gives practice exams that are more simplified versions of the test and as long as you can do them the test will be doable. Exams 4 and 6 (the final) are crazy hard.
He is a real interesting guy. Only grades 5 exams plus final exam with no drop grades. Just have to study good and go to class if your not exceptional at math.
He teaches the content well and he makes sure you understand the problems by going over homework at the beginning of each class. He gives out practice tests and goes over them too. Homework and participation are both optional, but very helpful. Your grade in the class is determined by only a few tests and he doesn't drop any grades or round grades.
He seems scary in class but if you meet him one-on-one, he is pretty nice and wants you to do well. There are only 5 exams and a final for a grade so study. I did not do good because I did not go to class but you should go b/c they are really helpful. Study, do the optional homework, do the study guides, and go to class and you should be fine.
He is a great professor that clearly teaches you what are on his test. There is no graded homework but gives out practice problems. Gives practice tests that are similar to the real thing. Attendance is not mandatory but is needed for a good grade. Has office hours that he will help teach you.
He gives homework problems but they are optional. I suggest doing them because they will help you understand the material better. His lectures are great for learning and he goes very in depth. He will go over homework problems that you need help on in class or individually. Overall he is a great teacher.
Hes overall a good professor but his lectures can get boring because he was a monotone voice, but he's a good teacher. he does a good job at going slowly in the different sections and gives a lot of practice problems in class and optionally for homework. pay attention in class and do the homework cause he goes over any that you ask him to in class.
He is a cool guy, he just really cares about math and wants you to care too. Very stern on memorizing formulas for a good grade. The math is hard but he takes good time explaining it most of time and is always available for help.
He expects a lot of formulas memorized, so be ready to study those. Your entire grade is made of 5 tests, but the final weighs just as much as a test. optional homework problems that you definitely should do. however, if you fail one test it's pretty hard to come back from
He is a very nice guy! He is a good teacher and im not the smartest but I would say its overall easier. He gives us a pracitce exam before the test and the exams are the exact same just with the numbers changed and little mixed up. He dosent take attendence but its hard to do good on test if you skip.
He was a great professor. Fairly easy if you go to class. There's only 5 tests that the class is based off of so your grade could be great or terrible, depending on if you're a good test taker.
Gives a lot of examples in class of what we are learning and goes over the homework at the beginning of each class if you ask him. Really good at explaining the material!
Maybe good professor, but did not work for me. Talks through material quickly and almost like it's a review and you should already somewhat know it. I did good on homework and the exams were different. Nice guy, but I struggled. Says you need specific questions to come to office hours, so I'm not sure what to do if you just don't understand
This professor is very good at describing the materials given to you and explaining it in detail. Its very important to attend each lecture even though attendance and homework aren't graded. The only grades are 6 tests (including the final) so it is important to study and take notes.
Do not take this class. The grade is only compiled of 6 tests, bad pacing of lectures were too fast in confusing parts and too slow in easy parts, huge amounts of homework for no credit, and no rounding grades. Unless you have the time to sit down and do approximately 40-60 homework problems every night, I wouldn't take this class.
If you do not do well on tests, stay away!!! It is very hard to recover if you do poorly on one or two exams, but get high A's and B's on the rest. Personally I wish I had found someone who had other opportunities for things to be graded other than 5 exams.
Attendance isn't enforced. Tests are based on practice tests given the day before and only strayed a little from it once (personally). He takes time to ask and answer a lot of questions. Homework is optional. Final has no study guide whatsoever except old tests.
This professor's teaching style is very structured, but engaging if you put in the work. Attend class, do the optional homework, and use resources like Unstuck AI to ace the exams - they can be challenging but fair. With dedication, this class is manageable.
Professor is very straight forward about what he teaches and what he expects. No questions will be unanswered and he is very thorough. Go to class and you will succeed especially if you do the optional homework to help yourself. Professor Harshbarger is the epitome of professionalism and knowledge
Good teacher, but veryyyy test heavy. Your entire grade is based of 5 tests and a final. Test 4 is the hardest. Made a 86,97,86 of the first 3 so I have a 92 in the class. Made a 46 on the 4th exam and my grade dropped to a 78. Brought it back up with the 5th exam.
his tests aren't hard if you study, you get a study guide before that he goes over that is almost the exact same as the tests. However, your whole grade is an average of 5 tests including the exam, so if you mess up on one, it's hard to get your grade back up
Really good lectures, only bad thing is that your only grades are test which for me was ok. His first 3 tests are relatively easy so do good on those because his 4th test is HARD. Overall great guy and cares about his students
Definitely go to the lectures if it's your first time taking pre-calc, but the tests aren't too hard and he does practice tests that are basically the same as the test. Also 105 points are available out of 100, but that is his only type of extra credit.
Gives GREAT lectures and cares a lot about making students succeed. Your grades are only 5 exams but are all relatively easy if you go to class and do the practice exams. Do good on the first 3 exams because exam 4 is the hardest. He's an awesome guy.
Harshbarger is an absolute GOAT, the guy tries to give you as much credit as he can. All tests are graded out of 105 and homework optional. Apart from the fact that the only grades are from 5 tests, the final is multiple choice and is pretty easy. You are in good hands with this absolute legend. Top 2 math professors and he isn't number 2.
Awesome professor! He doesn't take attendance but I still go to class every day. He is very easy to understand and explains the problems well. The grade is based on 5 total exams so if you mess up on one it will be hard to come back from it. Great teacher!
Attendance wasn't mandatory, but the lectures were extremely helpful. He explained everything well and told us what types of problems would be on the exams. The final grade he gave was the average of 6 exams and nothing else. He would suggest homework for practice, but it was completely optional.
Attendance isn't mandatory but lectures are extremely useful. Builds in time at the beginning of class to answer questions. Take advantage of this and you will be successful in this class. Great professor
Professor Harshbarger is a pretty funny guy, and an incredible teacher. You do not have to go to class, but it definitely helps. The only grades in his class are the 6 exams. This makes the margin of error available small, but he is so good at teaching the material that the tests are not bad at all.
Graded solely by Tests, no out of class assignments.
This guy is the goat. If you have already taken a precalc course then this class is a breeze. If you go to all the lectures and do some of the homework there's no reason you shouldn't get an A.
The professor is super strict with the grading policy. He doesn't allow retakes, extra credit, or drop the lowest test score. Homework problems aren't graded so if you do poorly on a test you're screwed. I did poorly on a test due to a personal struggle and had a doctor's note to prove it and he didn't care. Don't expect any grace or understanding.
The entire grade is the average of only 6 tests. Very clear lecturer, and moves at a slow pace. Tests are free response, but he gives partial credit if your work is right but the answer is wrong. Cares about answering questions, and helping students.
Pretty strict with grade negotiation and no extra credit, but he's a super nice dude that will help you when asked, and gives practice tests that are super similar to real test.
The overall grade consists solely on test scores. On the first day of class, he told us he doesn't care if you had a 89.99, and getting an A was the only way to keep your scholarship/ only way to stay in Auburn; he wasn't rounding it up. So he was very upfront, just harsh.
I expected precal/trig to be somewhat a light class based on my experience with harder subjects and based on the ratings for this professor but I have probably the lowest grade I've ever had in a math class. To me I have a hard time keeping up with his face paced lectures and the fact that the grade solely depends on test scores.
Mr. Harshbarger is very straightforward. Personally, I had trouble keeping up with the lectures. If you do not ask him to slow down, the class will be over in 20-30 minutes. Exams are similar to practice exams, except for the final, which has no practice exam. Homework is important, around 30 questions a night during the week, and is not graded.
This class was way harder than it should have been. He gives you 5 tests and that is all you are graded on. The tests get increasingly harder each one. On exam 4 our class average was around a 60% he did not care. He makes his tests way harder than his study guides. Took this class in high school and made a 98. Here I made a C. Do not recommend.
I've never ended with a C in math before taking this. He is very harsh and does not care who you are or what your grade is. He laughed at me when I told him what I had to make on the final to get a B. (It was a 90) which typically is pretty doable but I guess not in his class. Wouldn't recommend taking any math through auburn in general.
He is a good professor and gets straight to the point, but he will go too fast when lecturing, and I had a difficult time keeping up with him. There is homework, but it isn't graded. Your grade is dependent on the six exams you take for the whole semester. He doesn't drop any exams, but he has a built-in five extra points for every exam.
If you are not very good at math/haven't taken pre-calc before Harshbarger is prolly not for you. He moves fast and assumes you have learned a lot of the material. As someone who struggles with math this class was rough. Go check out Eric Harshbarger. org tho.
I'm someone thats always done well in math and I even did well in his class but if you want a teacher who cares about you he is not your guy. I emailed him about the fact I have 539/600 pts for the final grade and need 540/600 to have an A in his class. He didn't take the time to respond but just announced on canvas he doesn't round. So good luck.
