Eric is a funny and interesting professor who is passionate about Anthropology.
Great class! Best teacher I've had thus far at HCC and he really made the experience enjoyable (even if i didn't do to hot in class lol!)
Eric Joost is known as HCC's best professor hands down. People come over from USF to take his course. If he wasn't such a free spirit, he would be teaching at Harvard or one of the Ivy league schools.
Joost is an AWESOME teacher, one of the best I have ever met. He really wants to help his students and is very easy going, approachable teacher.
enthusiastic, enjoyable, and enlightened. a joy to have in any semester. he knows his subject. despite the appearence of his office, his curriculum is organized. he has a welath of information available for students including movies and visual aids.
I had him a few terms ago, he was really good. Liked him a lot. Great class
great teacher
such a great teacher. Easy to take notes, funny, interesting, very layed back, and very easy to approach. i love his class, and will miss it.
Excellent teacher. He is the type of professor that you can visit anytime and he makes you feel welcome. Share a story with him, he loves it.
eric joost is a funny & laid back teacher, but dont be fooled. he presents his class in such a way that doesn't help you with the tests at all. he also does nothing in class to suffice the gordon rule requirements. those are things you have to do yourself
awesome teacher.. cares about students and is passionate about what he's teaching. He's easy going but grades fair so definitely not a push-over. Take his class seriously and he'll take you seriously. Great guy! Love his sense of humor.!!
Joost is a pleasure to learn from. Vivacious and enthusiastic about his subject. Easy to talk to and approach about problems. This does not mean his course is easy, take it seriously and you will do well.
nice teacher. very funny.
Prof. Joost is a nice guy and is very dedicated to teaching. His tests are too lengthy if you ask me, but you must review in order to do well. Very clear, hence easy note-taking.
enjoyable
Class reminds me of an episode of Beakmans World. He takes complex things and makes them simple, espcially the scientific stuff. Uses humor to make the class light and easy to understand. Good Teacher. Even has a place to doodle at the end of tests.
I took joost for anthro and cultural anthro and he kicks ass. He is funny and his teaching style is laid back. He reminds me of a hippie!
GREAT! One of my alltime favs...Awesome sence of humor too!
What a great guy?! He doesn't use the textbook at all but that makes it even better. He has an extremely funny sense of humor. And he is actually very clear on what is going to be on the test. You just need to make sure that you are there to take down notes. Highly recommend him!
He is a very nice, very helpful man. The class was easy, but there is a lot of writing and out of class work. You get to do your own ethnography.
Very funny and laid back attitude, however, you must study well and take good notes if you want to pass his class. He really appreciates it when you share your experiences relating to anthropology with him.
he is such a great teacher! HILARIOUS! he makes the class very fun. i have such a good time in that class and i have learned so much. the tests are kind of easy and the papers to write are simple. i would highly recommend him to anyone!
He is the bomb. I took him years ago over the summer and he was awesome!
Excellent Teacher and his test is entirely of the lecture notes so you have to attend class.
awesome guy. very nice, very funny, and very helpful. what more could you want from a professor?
He is a great teacher..he is funny and makes his classes interesting!!!Take his class!!!just make sure u study some 4 his tests
Great personality. Makes class interesting. Everything that is on the test is discussed in class. Very clear speaking, so easy note taking. Tests aren't the easiest, so make sure and attend class so that you have all the notes to study from.

His passion for Anthropology make it easy to learn. Take good notes & study them, & know Word List terms to ace the tests. Very logical and clear lectures. He brings in ancient artifacts, fossils, books, & videos to ~every class!! Talk to him during office hours, he's awesome!! BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD!! :) INSPIRING, HILARIOUS! A+, ERIC :)
He was so entertaining
Such a great class! He really made the class fun. Don't bother buying the book, he goes through the word list in his lecture. Go to class and study the word list and you'll be fine.

VERY helpful, very knowledgeable, and a great teacher overall. Quite funny in that dad-humor kind of way. Worth getting up early for. Learned a lot.. Would recommend!
excellent class!
HE IS VERY FUNNY AND MAKES THE SUBJECT INTERESTING
Very intersesting. He brings in a lot of artifacts and videos.
Joost was the man that helped show me the door. I passed through years ago & am still doing anthropology to this day. You are lucky to have him as a teacher.
extremely easy class, just pay attention, take notes and review for the tests because they are few and are worth 300 points. He's the man!,funny, smart, clear.
Terrible teacher. I'm an A student but as soon as he found out I'm not an American hating liberal like him, he came down on me. If you like ex-hippies who think they know eveything and hate many of America's traditions, then you will love Joost.
Very easy class. Professor Joost is funny and always cracking jokes. he keeps the class interesting. You should definitely take this class. But don't miss a day of class or you'll be very behind. I 'A'ced all of his exams

VERY amazing professor. Makes learning soooo fun and you remember what he talks about...so, when test time comes, its so simple that I never even had to study! You will pass with an A as long as you just listen. Hes very animated and visual in the way he teaches, which is rare to find. He's also very educated in his subject. A++++ prof!!!
Best professor I have had yet! Love him and his class!! Highly recommend to anyone!! I wasn't interested in the subject at all before the class, took it b/c of requirement for major, but ended up very interested and loving the class! It was easy and fun. :)
His manner of being make him hot! His enthusaism and intelligence make him riveting! This is a class you want to take. Show up, take notes, and the test's are a breeze!
Cool teacher. Knows his info. Easy A!
Prof. Joost always has lecture-related items to bring to class to look at, which makes it more interesting than just the lecture. Interesting class. Lots of memorization!
Very good teacher, makes class interesting! Take lots of notes!
awesome teacher
He's very nice but lectures get a little boring. BRING YOUR CAFFEINE! Would like to see him get the class more involved. Test are tough so study... but overall the class was quite interesting.
Class can be boring at times, but a lot is learned. Only three exams which are very hard so take lots of notes and study a lot. Overall professor is down to earth and friendly.
He doesn't teach from the book, but everything you need to know is said in the lectures. The test are pretty straight-forward. Attendance not required but highly recommended. He doesn't dock points for not attending, but you miss the information that will be on the test. I enjoyed his class so much that I am taking the cultural anthro for fun.
Very easy class. Show up and take the notes and get a good grade. I should have taken my own advice. I only got a B because I decided not to study too hard for the final 2 tests. His jokes are terrible but I'm pretty sure he knows that and I like corny jokes so I was usually the only one laughing. He can be very boring but at least it is easy.
really cool & chill guy
He is sooo great! he made me love going to class. Im not the type of kid that likes school but he made me love it! TAKE HIM!!! Its the best advice I could give :)
I loved Mr. Joost. His classes were very interesting and he kept you up on current events relevant to Anthropology. There were 4 tests and a long word list but just study it and it will be easy to pass his class. I had fun writing his paper also!!! Definitely recommended!!!
Very spunky! Prof. Joost's classes were always fun to attend; he definitely knows how to keep the attention of his class. Nearly all test content came from the text book; if you pay attention in class, you won't need to use the book. Recommend!
The course was fun at first, but once we got to the end of the semester we were cramming for back to back tests in which I studied and none of it was helpful on the test. At the end of the class I hated him, he is not serious and is horrible with giving notes. I will never take another class with him nor will I recommend him to other students.
For intro Joost was a good teacher.I took him for Cultural Anthro because I am getting my BA in the subject but his class is extremely boring. It is an easy A but he doesn't offer any stimulating learning experiences. Too many movies and he reads from books rather than putting together an interesting cirriculum.Good for INTRO. Not good for CULTURAL
easy A if you attend, even if I got a B. He gives you everything in his notes and he makes it interesting to learn. He has a corny sense of humor but he knows that.Really cool but it is hard to stay awake so at 8am for a slow-moving class. If anyone failed then they should not be in college and keep the immature students at home with mommy.
He looks like a hippie and is very funny and corny. He's an easy going guy and obviously loves anthropology. MAKE SURE YOU STUDY. The first test was a nightmare because the questions were SO specific. When we were 3/4 through the year we had only taken 1/4 tests so we were cramming tests in at the end. Very funny though sometimes boring.
Very interesting and free spirited. No homework or classwork...just a few tests. Tests are not hard, nor easy. It is pretty hard to get an "A" or "C", but a "B" is very easy to attain.
Joost is a great teacher!!! Explains the material very well. Class is fun, I look forward to going to class... that's a first. He is definitely a hippie-always singing John Lennon. I was unsure about the class at first but now my perspective has changed. I'm very much interested in anthropology and consider taking further courses.
take good notes & pay attention. if you do that, the tests will be easier! the class is pretty boring and monotonous though.
Dude, joost is AWESOME, I had alot of fun in his class, there is no homework, 3 tests, 1 ridiculously easy project, 1 paper. If you come to class everyday and take good notes, you'll pass with flying colors.
Class is fun and interesting! I had no idea what Anthropology was about until I took Joost's class. Tests come from lecture notes and study guide. Every test has easy extra credit. NO HOMEWORK! One simple kinship chart, and 4 page experience paper due by end of term. Take this class!! It might change your life!! (It did mine...)
awesome teacher! he will actually get u interested in the class. The tests come straight from the study guide but if you want to get a good grade on tests, you need to come to class. You have the option of writting 2 short papers or 1 longer one. No reason why someone should get lower than a B.
Fun professor. Tests are not too hard, but not easy.
Prof Joost is enthusiastic about Anthropology, so I took him for ANT 2000 and 2410. The class is fun and easy. Attendance is mandatory, and you watch lots of films. Take good notes because you will need them for the take home mid-term and take home final. The entire semester is focused around one project, so don't procrastinate! Highly recommend!!
great, great teacher!!! and funny too!
Joost is SO funny! He tells lively stories about the cultures that you discuss in class. He makes jokes and knows a lot about current modern culture, which makes him more personable to young students. He wears the funniest T-shirts and he is EXTREMELY helpful. His papers are short and his tests are pretty easy. Take him!
Awesome teacher! I got a D the first semester I took his class and that's because I didn't put forth an effort. I took him again studied and got a B. Its an easy class to pass if you come regularly and take good notes. Listen to his little side stories because I swear one of them were on the test.
funny dude. Exams were difficult. he gives a review.
He is VERY enthusiastic about anthropology. The information given should have been learned in high school. He is very nice, and wants the class to be as excited as he is.
Mr. Joost is a fantastic teacher. He is incredibly enthusiastic and funny, and he has endless knowledge about his subject. He helps you realize how much you encounter Anthropology in your everyday life. You never need the book, so don't waste your money. He supplies key words for each test which is all you need to study.
Took him for cultural anthro. One of my fav teachers of all times. Has awesome props for his class, his **** gourd (worn by the kalahari)was the best.Funny guy.
He talks too much. we spent the whole semester on the first test(3 into chapters). after spring break we have 2 test(10 ch. total) to complete in 2 weeks. 2 "cultural papers" due. 3 test.Wears funny/interesting t-shirts. He loves anthropology but not great on time management! take at your own risk
Very nice guy, but he spends 3/4 of the class showing newspapers and rocks then rushes to get his notes done and usually ends up keeing you a few minutes after the class is supposed to end. His tests are easy for the most part, if you know everything on the review sheet and take notes of the random things he throws on the board.
He is a really nice guy & loves anthropology BUT he talks too much. He spends over 1/2 the class on 'cultural news' and then has to rush to get the notes done.we spent the practically the whole semester on the first test[3 introduction chapters]. After spring break we had 2 test[10 ch. total] to complete in 2 weeks.
AMAZING TEACHER! yes, he does talk a lot, but he talks about everyday stuff related to anthropology. I love his class. He is funny, and has endless knowledge on the subject. I deffinetely recomend him!!
Very interesting class; Joost is enjoyable. Very liberal, but you kind of expect that in a class like this. I enjoyed his newspaper articles and the other things he used to bring in. Take good notes and know the word list. Requires two two-page essays.
He is a great teacher the only thing I did not like is that he does not list the dates for tests.try not to miss class a lot. Anthropology is interesting with him
Anthropology became my favorite class. He keeps anthropology updated by showing the latest news in each class, from newspapers, national geographic and other sources. He encourage you to learn on your own by telling the different tv programs related to anthropology. If you study his word list and his notes then you will do fine. Great teacher!
GREAT TEACHER! although it could be boring at times but the material is good. all you need to know for his tests are the word lists and your notes. =)
My favorite professor within HCC. It is a class where you can actually learn about life and use the knowledge to better understand others. He is very open to other opinions, and grades well. I love this teacher. TEAM JOOST
Great teacher! He makes learning fun even if you are not particularily interested in subject! Retiring soon so i'd definitly recommend taking him before he goes!
He spends 30 mins going over goldon rule paper throughout the year when its only worth 150pts. Tests are extremrly hard and he is not clear on whats going to be on the test. The word list doesnt really help. He focuses on little things and tests are worth 300 pts ...think prior to taking this class !!!
People are saying tests are sooo hard, there really not unless you don't study. If you study you have an A. Last exam is open note. Tests are worth 300 so there is room for you to get some wrong and still get a good grade. Take him before he retires!!!!
THE BEST TEACHER AT HCC. I love his class, the material is great. A real eye opener. DOUBLE JOOST ALL THE WAY
He's an awesome teacher. Funny and makes learning fun and easy!! He is retiring after spring 2012 so of you're interested in taking anthropology take it now!! Gave me more of an appreciation of others.
Great teacher. Never boring.
