Good teacher, very clear and understandable! Always there for help!

Great teacher, and very helpful! His lectures are very clear, and its easy to understand what he is talking about.
SUCH a good math teacher. He explains everything sooo well, and he is always willing and able to answer questions.
flips and violas
My favorite teacher so far at Western. He made an 8 am class easy to go to. Not really an easy class but his teaching style was really helpful.
The best math teacher I have ever had. He made math fun and interesting, not to mention that he is such a cutie :)
Keene, just FYI
he is one of my favorite profs at western so far. he is one of those teachers who can make any subject interesting. he's very good at explaining concepts and making sure that everyone understands them before moving on.
The best math teacher around, he's young, can relate to the students, fair grader, funny, & very easy to understand. I advise everyone to take him if you can!
This guy is ridiculously entertaining! Class was easy to pass, and easy to follow.. even though we hardly spent all of class focused on math. He's a funny guy.. great sense of humor, i'd take the class again!
He's so funny!! I like going to class...it's actually interesting!
I hate math with a fiery passion and I still enjoyed his class. He's hilarious and intelligent and remembers the names of his students, even in large classes.
Oh Man! Kean made every math class fun and interesting. He even remembers who I am and I haven't taken his class for two years.
Has a lot of enthusiasm for the topic and keeps you awake. Also, he is very willing to help and is great at explaining ideas and concepts.
Keans is very entertaining. Very funny, would recommend.
Good fella, even if he does wear the exact same outfit every single day
dude...eric is awesome. if he taught all the math classes i might take more. this is the best i've ever done in a math class before!
Eric totally rocks. I would reccommend him for any math class.
For the first time in my life, I am enjoying (and doing well) in math ... at 8 in the morning, nevertheless! Eric is entertaining and easygoing, and really tries to get to know his students and help them out. Lectures are concise, and tests are not overwhelming difficult - highly reccomended.
Oh diggity! Kean makes math entertaining AND easy! He is humorous, smart and fair! I loved this class simply because of who taught it! The math is easy but having Kean creates a math atmosphere I've never encountered before!
eric rocks!!! math is a hard subject for me to begin with and he helped me understand it and learn to like it. the lectures flowed really well. eric's enthusiasm and comic relief made class enjoyable. always there to help...gets to know you...take a class from eric!
He's an excellent teacher who makes himself truly available-on the syllabus he gives his office hours, office number, email, AND home number. He takes as much time as is needed to explain concepts, and in different ways if you don't get it the first way. He's also crazy funny-a GREAT teacher! :D!!!!
Totally HOT teacher... if only he wasn't a prof!! Subject (Probability & Statistics) was difficult, but I wouldn't have learned nearly as much if he wasn't the teacher. Very organized, prepared for class, and explains well.
Really cool prof. wants everyone to do well and is extremely willing to do what he can to help. Tests are not cakewalks - you can't breeze through off-the-cuff. I Probably would have failed with most profs but got a C+. Type of prof you could probably have a beer and joint with.

even if... Especially if you hate math, take it from him! he makes it a lot of fun and makes sure you understand. plus hes hilarious!
Eric is AWESOME. Very patient, understanding, clear, organized. He helps you look at the problems a few different ways until you get it. Takes amazing notes on the board to help you study for exams - he hightlights key points/equations. He's funny & cute too!
Eric is the best teacher I've had at Western so far...if you can take his class, do it. He is so funny and always very willing to help, he is organized and clear and encourages asking questions. Always at office hours, always prepared to help and truly wants his students to succeed.
Awesome teacher. Funny, empathic- just alround cool. He makes what should be an aweful early morning class something that I'm actually willing to drag myself out of bed and go to. He's a fantastic teacher, and you should really try and get him, if at all possible!
Best teacher I've had yet
This cat was the best professor I've ever had
The best Maths instructor who I have ever met. His jokes appear everywhere in the class. You can be laughing even while doing his tests with various kinds of food on them. Trendy, hair style looks like Kenny G.

The best math professor I have ever had. (EVER)

Great Professor always puts the students first and is very clear and concise. He goes over and answers everything. Office hours are also a lot of help.
Professor Kean has a good feel for students' comprehension and makes a point to answer as many questions as clearly and fully as time allows. The class was organized, well-paced, and the lectures were clear. Good balance of time spent between lessons, practice, and Q&A. Test and quizzes were of the same content and difficulty as the homework.
This was the most enjoyable math class I have taken. Kean presents the material in a fun way with examples about lead doughnuts and puppies in burlap sacks. It is an informal setting which was very interactive and I could count the number of people that skipped each day on one hand (in a class of like 50, that is pretty damn good).
HE ROCKS!!!!!
Eric Kean is absolutely the best math teacher I have ever had. He explained everything very clearly, provided lots of examples, and somehow made calculus interesting! He is very funny and very nice, and always willing to go above and beyond to help his students understand.
Kean is probably the best math teacher around. he is amusing and smart at the same time. i felt i got a lot out of his class.
I LOVE THIS GUY!!! He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He is very clear and it's important to him that his students do well. He is very approachable and always helpful. I am not someone who enjoys math, but he inspires me to actually do my homework because I like the class so much. I highly reccommend him.
Probably one of the BEST math teachers I have ever had!! He is very clear in his lectures and makes sure that EVERYONE understands before moving on to the next thing. He offers outside help. His quizzes and tests are challenging but nothing I couldn't understand. It's nearly impossible to do bad out of his class!! Highly recomment the guy!!
Great math teacher. Teaches you WHY math works in addition to HOW it works, which makes it so much easier to understand.
He is the best math prof. I can't say a bad thing about him...The only thing I can say is, TAKE HIM!!
Great teacher, very helpful, but its Math, so yeah it was hard.
Kean actually cares about how students do in his class which seems to be something the WWU math department lacks in my experience.
He's a great teacher, and is very clear about everything. He always goes over the homework and his tests arent any harder than the homework usually. Overall great teacher
Great teacher. Always enthusiatic about what he teaches even if its at the buttcrack of dawn. Definetly take his class. You won't regret it~
Eric was really nice and great at teaching calculus. He went through everything step by step. You don't want to skip class because the book doesn't teach as well as he can. Hadn't taken math for two years when I took this class and still got an a. Just do the homework and stay ontop of things and you will do fine.
Great teacher, nice guy, has a great teaching style. You still have to work hard for your grade, but at least he knows what he is doing.
funny
Awesome Prof, definitely recommended. Homework was never turned in - and he answered all of the questions you had about the homework. If there wasn't time in class, he posted solutions for everyone to view. Great guy.
Great teacher! Amazing explanations. Just take notes in class and pay attention and you'll go far. Quizzes are EZ. Tests are slightly more difficult but he gives you ALL the equations you need. Very fair grader as long as you pay attention to detail and ask prior to turning in assignments (labs/projects) what exactly he wants on them. Cool guy
Basic statistics is a breeze to get an A in for anyone who is mathematically inclined. Just GO TO CLASS. His lectures are GOLDEN. The entire course in ****ulative and everything builds continuously so if you don't get something ask in class right when you realize you're lost. Study a half hour for all the tests and quizzes.
Best professor at western. He's funny and he's lectures and explinations are crystal clear. I must say, I left the class with a bit of a crush.
Very solid. I had his class at 9 every morning, and it wasnt a bad way to start off my day. He is an interesting, friendly, and helpful teacher.
I was not too excited about taking math.. specially 156 but Kean is the best math teacher I have had. You don't have to do your hw, just go to class and he goes over the 'difficult' problems for students. Follow along and take good notes. I never did hw, just went to class and studied my notes night before quiz/exam. He is funny and helpful
Great Teacher! I learned a lot and looked forward to class. He is extremely helpful and available if you need help. Take his class!
Eric is a ridiculously good teacher. He goes above and beyond to make math a bearable subject. And he is so reasonable about things. Provides extra info after test/quizes to help study for next time and truly cares about how well students do in his class.
I would DEF RECOMMEND!! homework was not collected but it was nice to not have to worry about doing it all the time. He explains things very well. and plus he has a great sense of humor! I felt like I learned alot and you can definelty see that he wants his students to do well in his class.
Eric is awesome!! He explains everything really well and he knows when the class is confused. He has this nervous laugh and crazy sense of humor that make you shake your head and laugh. He's a great teacher.
Awesome teacher. Makes a boring subject fun. He is always clear and makes it really easy to understand the material. highly recommended.
Eric Kean was not a bad teacher...his lectures were easy to understand. Unfortunatley his grading wasn't so great. He was very nit picky and his grading scale was horrible, 95% was an A.
By far the best prof for math! If you have the opportunity to take him, do it. He goes step by step and makes sure that everyone understands his lecture. He gives you practice quiz and test problems too which are very helpful for the real thing. He has a great sense of humor and makes class enjoyable. Take him, you won't regret it.
Dude is super good at explaining stuff and as long as you show up everyday and do the non-graded homework, you'll get a B atleast. Really cares that everyone understands concepts clearly! First Math teacher I had here and no ones been better.
He is awesome! Definitely the best so far, he has alot of energy and you can tell he loves what he does. Great at explaining things and his office hours are very helpful as well. Do the non graded hw and go to class--you will do fine. I'm not exceptionally great at math but I've done the best with him. Take it with him and I can't say it enough! :)
always funny and in a good mood, answers questions thoroughly and clearly, has flexible office hours for extra help
Great math teacher. His lectures and explanations are always clear and he is always willing to give students extra help when needed. Tests were not too difficult if you come to class and do the homework. Eric was always in a good mood and made the class bearable, even though it was really early.
This guy is amazing. I'm working my schedule around making sure i have him next quarter. His quizzes are fair, expects attendance but it isnt mandatory. He's a fair grader and is really helpful. Tries to explain everything so everyone knows whats going on.
Kean is such a nice and funny guy. He makes class entertaining and gives lots of partial credit on labs, quizzes, and exams. He grades labs kind of harshly though but there is a project at the end of class that's really easy points. I highly recommend this class with Kean!
Kean did it again! He's a great professor, and he'll do a round off in class if you get a class average of A on any of the quizzes! HA! If you don't understand something he will explain until you WILL get it! HW isn't graded but I highly recommend doing them. Quizzes and tests are fair. Overall GREAT! TAKE HIM! You wont regret it.
This guy is the absolute best. I've never been great at math but I have an A and it feels great. Just go to class and do the homework, I swear the time flies by! One of the best, I highly recommend him.
Took him for 124 as well. Absolutely infectious energy, even at 8:00 a.m. Very intelligent, but also goofy in a charming sort of way. Well-planned lectures and homework assingments, challenging but fair tests. Excellent understanding of student comprehension. He'll revitalize your interest in mathematics.
Kean is a wonderful professor. His lectures are well planned out and taught with clarity. His office hours are always packed, most likely because students simply can't get enough of him. His laugh is infectious and makes an 8 a.m. class seem not so bad. I will take as many classes from him as possible.
This guy rocks! Answered any and all questions, great analogies and examples, unrivaled enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor to boot. He made perfect sense out of some concepts that can be initially baffling. There's too many things to say about all the things that many other professors make no effort to be (ignore grammar). Take this guy!
Eric is the best math teacher I have ever had! He is really enthusiastic and helpful! He makes sure everyone understands the material. The test and exams are not too hard if you study. I really recommend taking his class.
Energetic, very funny, enthusiastic and engaging. The tests are just like the homework.
Hands down greatest math teacher I've ever had....TAKE HIS CLASS!!
eric kean is the best math teacher i've ever had. very funny. kind. and EXTREMELY helpful. he will go out of his way to help you understand concepts. however the class grade is entirely based solely on tests. he is a great teacher though and my favorite ever.
Great prof, great class. Eric is funny and his lectures are clear, detailed, and to the point. His tests and quizzes are straightforward and fair. Take this class from Kean!
Eric is an extremely helpful and enthusiastic prof. I was really dreading taking statistics but I ended up enjoying it a lot. I didn't do so well on one exam but I ended up with a B. I recommend him.
Great professor! So energetic and funny, explains things well, a fair grader. Take him if you can!
Very approachable. Made subject interesting and funny. Very clear notes. Cannot skip class. Provides notes online.
He's one of the best and easiest professors out there. Really easy class if you show up to class and listen to what he says. You will NEVER use a calculator in his class, so dont even bother bringing one. Other than that he's probably one of the best professors I've ever had.
Eric is quite literally the best Calculus teacher at Western. I took this course in high school and aced the AP exam, but with Eric it all made so much more sense. His tests are easy, he is helpful in and outside of class, and his sense of humor is great. I would definitely recommend him.
Awesome. He's great, helpful, energetic, and tests are straightforward.
After having horrible experiences with math professors, Eric Kean is by far one of the best math professors i have had! he is very helpful and really wants to make sure that you understand the concepts and the math behind it! If you have a chance to take his class do it! you won't regret it!
Best Math teacher I have ever had, take him!
Best professor I've had at WWU so far! I am NOT a math person, but his statistics class was my favorite class this quarter! Makes the material super clear and makes class fun. Just be sure you go every day or get notes from someone because he doesn't usually spend more than one day on each section. Also, gives "celebrations of knowledge" not tests!
By far the best math teacher I have ever had! Eric really wants students to succeed in math, and does a great job helping them. Lectures are well organized with good examples, and he is great at explaining the material. Has no problem spending alot of time reviewing hw if necessary. Very friendly and entertaining. Very approachable for extra help.
Okay, so let me start off by saying that this class gave me my first ever B. I went to class everyday, took notes yadayadayada. Prof.Kean definitely knows the material, however this mattered very little when he had break up into small groups-high school style- for test reviews. Labs were easy, tests were killer-and with no review...
Eric Kean is very clear and provides alternative explanations for those confused. He is organized and his grading is fair. I strongly recommend him.
definitely one of the BEST math profs at wwu. he does a great job slowing things down and clearly explaining new concepts. take his classes! hes awesome.
Eric teaches the class at a nice, easy pace and really will go in depth on material that he thinks people aren't understanding. Couldn't ask for a better professor. The class got much harder in the last couple weeks but he slowed accordingly and ensured everyone understood adequately before advancing. Take 124 with him for sure.
Fair grader, funny, down to earth. make sure you go to class, his schedule is not very rigid and make sure you study since his final grades are based solely on tests.
Very clear and high energetic lecturer, makes having an 8am class not so bad. HW is not mandatory, tests are straightforward and are similar to homework problems. Take him if you can.
Eric is a great professor! His lectures are clear, organized and full of useful examples. Homework is not mandatory but essential for doing well. His office hours are super helpful as well.
I liked him. It took me a couple weeks to get into the course but ones I did and understood the material I was able to answer questions in class which he gets very excited about. He has great energy and enthusiasm! I would definitely take another class with him.
Eric is a super funny guy, makes learning a boring subject like math, somewhat enjoyable. If you don't understand something he will take the time to explain it. A very fair grader, and all of his tests are comprehensive which makes the final and later midterms easier. Definitely a great class and great professor!
Eric is one of the best profs I have had at Western. He is always available for extra help and really goes out of his way to help you succeed. Calc is a tough subject but he made it enjoyable and understandable.
Eric is very positive, fun, and helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he's always glad to help.
GREAT PROF!
There is really no words to describe this teacher. He is honestly the best teacher I have ever met in my entire life. He takes a complicated subject and makes it easy to understand. The only regret I have is that my time with him was so short. I wish other teachers could use him as an example.
easiest grader, tests are easiest you will find for math 124. homework is not turned in or graded. only went on testquiz days and got an A
Eric has a great personality and is definitely willing to help his students when they ask. This subject was tough for me. Be prepared to really learn the concepts of calculus because he doesn't lecture from the textbook at all, so the homework can be quite different from his tests. Great professor overall.
He is probably the best math professor I have ever had. He is very energetic and likes to makes jokes in class and is an easy grader.
Easily the best professor I have had at WWU. He goes over ALL the homework questions and his lectures really make sense. He gives partial credit a lot!! He is funny and has a good upbeat personality. He calls tests celebrations and quizs mini-celebrations.. yeah he is one of those teachers haha. BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!
Much better then my previous teacher, He really want the people who care to succeed. Is know to sometimes take whole class days to go over the homework, which is often SUPER helpful, but still stays on track with the secudual. Office hours are also useful. All around nice and pretty funny guy.
he expects a lot from his students.
Good professor! Going to his office hours saved my life, very helpful!
Eric Kean is the best professor that I had so far here at Western! The guy is energetic and he really cares about his students so its worth getting up for and 8 am class. He is happy to help you understand the material. Some days we go over homework problems and it helps you prepare for exams. If you have to take any Math class, take it with Kean.
Good at teaching individual concepts but not good at explaining combined concepts. Also, test questions are not clear whatsoever, which causes major confusion.
Eric Kean is the best math professor that I had here at Western. He explains things really well and some days he will go over homework during lecture and it helps you prepare for tests. Go to office hours and do the homework and you will be fine. I'd love to take another math class with him again.
Eric is a great professor and made calculus tolerable! He is really funny and cares about his students. The hw wasn't graded but I would recommend doing the hw because he goes over hw questions in class which is very helpful! All of his exams were cumulative which made studying for the final much easier!! Also he looks like Sayid from Lost.
Eric Kean was a great professor. He wants his student to pass and succeed in his classes.
Great teacher! Explains things very well.
Eric is a cool guy. He makes a lot of jokes and you can tell he enjoys math. We only had 3 exams and a few quizzes. No graded homework. The only thing I don't like about the exams is that they are only out of 20 or 25 points so missing one question can hurt your score.
really nice guy, but doesn't give any practice problems. all exams are cumulative, and his grading scale is set up so that your final grade is determined by how well everyone in the class does as a whole
Eric was a great guy and a great professor. Statistics is a pretty dull subject but he made it fun to go to class and I'm very glad I took him. I asked the most basic questions in office hours and he was super understanding and kind w/ his answers. Take him if you can!
Lectures are easy to follow. You will have no problem with this class if you attend the lectures, do the homework, and come to class when he reviews the homework. He will quiz you on new material before the test (Quizzes: 5% of grade vs Tests: 95%) and the questions on the test are nearly identical. There's a pdf of the textbook online, find it.
Hello Math Department, Many of you may not know that Eric Kean happens to also be a Viola Professor in the music department. I've spent 4 years with this professor, and can assure you, he's seemingly never had a bad day (and never shows it). He always pushes you to your limit, and past that. If you play viola, join his studio, you'll go very far.
Kean is a great professor. He's very smart, funny, and friendly. His lectures are good and he frequently checks to make sure that people understand what he is teaching. 10/10, take him. Homework isn't graded, but DO IT ANYWAY! It really helps you learn, trust me. Graded only on exams and quizzes. Go to every lecture! This is a math class.
Best math class ive taken in years!
Eric was wonderful, so enthusiastic and kindhearted. He really wants all his students to pass. His class is very difficult and he gives very frequent quizzes and tests. Or should I say "celebrations of knowledge." He doesn't grade homework but YOU HAVE TO DO IT. This class was a struggle for me but he taught it very well. Tough grader though.
Eric is one of the best math professors I have ever had. He is very intent on making sure everyone understand what's going on before he moves to the next topic, and assigns very relevant problems on the test. All in all I would leap at the opportunity to take him for any higher math class
Let's be honest, Western's math teachers are usually really bad, Eric is the best math teacher I have ever had. He makes complex things seem simple and understandable. He makes you laugh and he engages well with students.
Coming from someone who has been terrible at math forever and was absolutely terrified at taking calculus, I have to say that Eric was seriously a life saver. Definitely the best math teacher I've ever had, he makes tough concepts really understandable. He truly cares about the success of his students, I would 100% recommend taking a class with him
Eric's enthusiasm, positive attitude, great teaching style, and caring nature made Calculus a positive, enjoyable learning experience for me (a person who is terrible at math). He explains concepts multiple ways, asks the class if they understand before he moves on, and is always available for extra help. One of the best math teachers at Western.
Eric is incredible. I hadn't taken pre-calc since junior year of high school, three whole years ago, but he made the class super do-able. He doesn't expect you to know more than basic algebra and doesn't mark down a lot on algebra mistakes. Amazing lecturer, he actually explains stuff so it makes sense. Overall the best math teacher I've ever had!
One of the best math professors I have ever had! He averages your test scores at the end of the quarter and compares it to the grade you get on the final. Whichever is higher is your overall grade for the course. He goes over all of the optional homework in class and the tests are very similar to the questions on his quizzes.
One of the best math professors I've ever had!! He explains the concepts in terms the class can understand, instead of just doing the proof from the book. He checks in with the class for comprehension, before moving on AND he doesn't mind people asking him to explain something again or where he got a number from. I would take an 8am class from him!
SO caring! He's always available for help. Go to office hours, he's willing to re-explain course concepts and show multiple examples. Homework is optional but if you don't do it then the likely-hood of passing is unlikely, it is calc. He likes to make jokes during lecture, would take classes from Eric over and over!
By far the best math professor in the department. Great lecturer. Homework optional. Three tests and a final, and if you do better on the final than all the other tests combined, you just get your score on the final.
Eric keen is an amazing professor. He is the best professor I've ever taken. His tests are fair and he calls them celebrations of knowledge. If you can, take this man he is that good.
Eric Kean is an amazing professor! He grades very fairly, even though the only grades come from the quizzes, tests ("Celebrations"), and the final. The environment of the classroom was very open and engaging. I'm not a math lover but I'm actually sad that I will not have the opportunity to take another class with him. Highly recommend!
He's nice and seems to really like math, but I wouldn't reccomend him. He only gives about 7 questions on the midterms and they're really difficult, so its hard to even get close to a B, let alone an A. I know Calculus is hard but it feels like he makes it even more diffcult with the way he rushes through things and structures his test questions.
He's really cool, in all honesty I didn't really connect with him but he is by no means a bad teacher, he really cares about students and takes the time to really make sure they are doing okay. I loved his class and decide to major in Math because he inspired me to learn more about math and I can't thank him enough.
Eric is a phenomenal professor! He assigns homework regularly but it is not mandatory (he doesn't even collect it) so the homework is really just for practice. The midterms are fairly easy if you've studied the material a little bit and his grading system is super friendly and benefits the students. I had him for MATH125 as well. Take this class!
He is confusing and vague. His tests are usually 6-7 questions long worth 20 points, and quizzes are 5 points. I think he has such a high rating because he's nice, but he kind of has an "aw shucks" attitude if you are struggling with the subject matter, office hours are unless. Go to the math center and go over problems early on if you want to pass
Eric was a wonderful professor. He always approached the material in multiple ways to try to help everyone get a grasp on what he was trying to say. He was extremely enthusiastic and always encouraging. I highly recommend him as a professor for Math 124, whether you consider math your strong-suit or not.
Eric was the best math teacher I could imagine for this course. The way he lays out your final grade saved my GPA. He lets you choose to either keep your average grade for the three "midterms" throughout the quarter or keep the grade you got for the final. He's also very very helpful outside of class and explains concepts very well.
Eric has been the best math professor I've ever had. He has an amazing grading policy which makes it almost impossible to not pass. He's definitely the best math professor at Western.
Eric is seriously the best professor I've had at WWU. I took him for both Math 124 and 125. He's a funny, caring, and intelligent guy. Just show up, do the homework even though it isn't graded, and don't be afraid to ask questions and you'll do well. He's able to take complex/scary concepts and make them understandable. Just take a class from him!
BEST CALC PROF EVER! He made calc 2 so easy! He has a wonderful teaching style and is very understanding and caring towards his students. He does not make you feel dumb when you ask questions. I will recommend him always!
Eric was not only funny but did a great job teaching different concepts. You need to not only watch his lectures but go to class, going to class allows you to clear up any uncertainties you have about the content. He also adjusted very well to online learning, so if you want an online friendly teacher choose him!
There is no mandatory homework that has to be turned in. Eric gives partial credit on exams and quizzes. His lectures are tough, but that stems from the material being tough. He does not give extra credit, but if you attend office hours and class you will do just fine. I took this course because it was required and it could have been a lot worse.
Eric is super friendly and explains concepts in simple terms to help you understand.
Eric made Calc 2 from being a scary stem major weed out class into a fun, easier than pre-Calc and Calc 1 combined class. His lectures are really helpful and he posted his records zoom meetings on canvas, which means no mandatory 8-9 am class despite what canvas says. Take him and hell make math great again for you.
I really liked Professor Kean. The homework load was fair, and his lectures were generally really well done (a few times, I was a little confused, but he helped clear things up). There is a test (called "celebrations of knowledge") about once every two weeks, but they're on the short side and not very hard. I highly recommend him as a professor!
It's been a couple years since my class with Eric and now I'm taking higher math, but I wanted to come on here and give him praise. Eric makes Calculus 1 relatively easy to understand! His tests are fair as well as his homework. He really cares about his students' learning and he tries to make class engaging and fun. Best Calc prof at WWU. The GOAT
I took this online, but Eric was really available during class to answer questions, and his lecture videos were reasonable-length and really clear. I really love math but have struggled with it in the past and Eric made it super doable!
Professor Kean is an incredible professor! I have to admit this class was hard, but in his lectures, he made sure that everybody was able to understand everything. He offered three midterms that are called celebrations and the final exam. He is easy going and enthusiastic, but the tests were cumulative so you gotta study!
Eric is friendly and easy to talk to. He really cares!
His lectures are WAY too fast and he expects you to know everything he is talking about going into the class w/o explanation. He does not provide any hw keys w work shown and all of his lecture examples do not correlate with the calc hw we are doing. I showed up to EVERY lecture, and it did me no good. Hes a nice guy but not such a good prof.
The lectures I thought were great. They were both clear and concise. The course was structured so we would watch two 10-30 minute lectures per week, and class sessions were for asking questions. NOTE: I took this course summer quarter, so my homework load was likely higher than a full 10-week quarter, since it would have been spread out better.
I really loved Eric he is by far the best math prof I have had at Western. I took him for 124 and 125. He is available outside of class, good at answering questions, and a good person overall. I wish I could take him for 224 as well.
Professor Kean was a great teacher! Its just lectures 4 times a week, and homework after each one, kinda like a class from high school. He goes over homework questions for about 30 mins of class so actual new info in the lectures are pretty short. If you do all of the homework/study you will be fine! He grades pretty easy and tests are realistic
Professor Kean has been by far the best instructor I've had at Western. I was really nervous about taking this class because I have ALWAYS struggled with math. His teaching style has helped me more than any other prof I've had. I actually really looked forward to doing my math HW and going to class! And for the 1st time in my life got an A in math!
Almost 25 years later and still left quite an impression due to desire to help a struggling student.
Attendance isn't mandatory for this class and neither is homework, but your grade will drop if you don't go to class and do the homework. He also works out many of the proofs so you learn the concepts and why they work, not just memorize how to solve the problems. He responds to emails almost immediately, and is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
His class is only 50 mins but it's everyday except Wed. You have a mini quiz every Tuesday. He doesn't review at all. If you miss one class you are sure to fall behind and if you don't do the homework you are probably going to be confused in class even though the homework isn't being graded. If you are not good at math its going to be difficult.
A great guy, but the class is so difficult. The grades are only based on quizzes, exams, labs, and projects. This made it super difficult to get a good grade. Labs are easy, and the project is fairly easy, but the quizzes take a heavy toll on our grades. Miss a class you won't pass. My word of advice is to do the show even though it isn't graded.
Professor Kean is a great teacher and also super kind. Attendance and homework aren't required but to be successful you need to do both. When studying for this class make sure to do lots of practice problems!
He was amazing about going over homework/anything students were confused about. One of my favorite professors at this school.
I loved him, but his class requires availability. Sweetest guy ever. BUT he locks your letter grade, assigns hw thru canvas email, and closed book quizzes each week. Average of exams measured against the final exam for overall test grade (60%). He takes the highest. HW is honor system, ungraded. However, labs are very easy, and the project is easy.
One of the best math professors at WWU! Comes to class prepared, knows the subject very well, explained difficult concepts clearly and responds to emails very fast. Highly recommend.
Eric Kean is awesome. He's a great lecturer and really understands his students and the material.
Eric is awesome! Attendance was not mandatory but the lectures are so engaging and interesting. Would recommend showing up to every one. The grading system for the tests is great if you struggle at them. He gives lots of partial credit and the test grade is either the average of all 4 or just the final (whichever is higher)
He was a nice professor but was not very reachable outside of class. You miss one exam and you will fail the class. I had a death close to me and had to miss an exam, I reached out to try to make it up but was told it was too late. I appreciated his lectures but was disappointed with his lack of compassion and accommodation.
Eric is awesome! Very clear explanations but just so people know, this class is likely near impossible to pass without showing up to lectures as there is nothing in canvas. But really, he's a great professor. Sometimes, he spends a lot of class time going over homework but that's the only "bad" thing I'd say.
Second time taking his class after not passing by 2% a few quarters ago. It's most important to show up to lecture and to memorize calculator functions before quizzes/tests. He has a very generous grading scale on the midterms/finals. Don't let yourself underestimate this class though. He overhauled the HW system and it's much better. Great guy.
Super great guy, and was not a tough grader when it came to tests. It was obvious that he took time to get to know each of his students which made his class really great to be in. Although, if you don't show up to the lectures the class is pretty much impossible as the textbook was super hard to understand.
As someone who struggles with math a lot jumping into calculus was very scary. However, prof Kean very clearly cared about his students success. He had very open office hours where he was understanding and patient, delegating time to each student. He is very generous when it comes to midterms/finals, giving lots of half points. Would recommend him!
Decent course and a decent professor. One thing I wish there was improvement on was actually getting study guides before exams instead of being told to study with ChatGPT and to make your own study questions with classmates. Try not to miss this class because it is very lecture heavy as the textbook is very confusing.
hes fine
he was not a good teacher because he refused to communicate with his students in a respectful manner.
The exams were 60% of the final grade which made it very disrespectful of peoples DAC accommodations and refused to speak like adults about it.
Professor Kean's class is challenging, but manageable with regular attendance and utilizing resources like the textbook and Unstuckstudy for study prep. Lectures are worth attending to grasp the concepts.
