He was a great teacher! He made speech class infinitely better. He definitely knew what he was talking about, and he graded accordingly. He wasn't a pushover. He was helpful though, and gave clear instructions on how everything should be done. I would reccomend this teacher to anyone! Especially someone who is nervous about taking speech.

Eric Long is hilarious. He is an incredible speaker and never makes class boring. I was so nervous going into Speech and he made the class much less nerve-wrecking. If you need help he is willing to help out, answers his emails in a fair amount of time. He even has a Facebook page for his classes! Great guy, definitely recommend!

He was super funny and really helpful. Every other sentence he would say would end up being a joke. He had realistic expectations for the students, although the work load got pretty packed towards the end of the semester. You don't really read the book, but it becomes helpful around the midterm and final. I would totally take him again if I could.

He's funny which makes you WANT to attend class! Lenient but realistic. Emphasizes exactly what you need to know. Connects to students and doesn't overload you. Realizes how busy college students are. Doesn't penalize for late assignments (within a reasonable time at least). Very cool.I highly recommend him. Favorite teacher I've ever had.

I hate giving speeches but I really enjoyed this class. Eric makes it funny. Only had 2 tests in his class and 2 quizzes. He give you a grading rubric, so you'll know how and what he's grading on.

All of the lectures are very clear. He makes sure to evaluate the class's understanding before moving on. 100% sets you up to get an A in this class. Eric is a genuine professor. He states he won't teach us anything we wouldn't have to use in the future - and he did just that! He's inspirational, hilarious, and relatable. His rubrics and assignments are straight to the point and easy to follow. I never skipped because you truly learn and get entertained at the same time! You won't regret him.

In order to pass this class you will need to do homework and attend class. Does not take attendance. Is somewhat funny and class goes by pretty fast. Not a hard grader at all. Grades speeches very well. Will let you know exactly what he expects for each speech. No quizzes only Mid term test and final. Would recommend. Don't bother to purchase book

Eric long was the coolest teacher I've ever had. He was hilarious and inspirational. He broke the awkward ice the first day. I felt comfortable speaking. Professor Long is freakin' hilarious! He makes a not so great required class totally bearable. His attitude is upbeat and he is willing to help along the way. He understands that not everyone is a "speech giver" and grades fairly. You will have a fair amount of speeches and not a lot of tests. I highly recommend!

Eric is a swell fella who made a class that I was dreading into something really fun. He gives some flexibility on the topics you talk about. He also has some really great methods for how we would give our speeches.

You will be doing speeches worth 125-150 points. You will be taking 150 point miderms along with essays and mandatory outlines. This class is a lot of work but it's not too difficult. You just have to put in a lot of time. He's a great teacher and a great person who really has a passion for what he teaches.

Eric loves his field, and is passionate about showing people how to love it too. Show up to class, rub some brain cells together to create and give a good speech, and you'll be just fine.

He tries to make people laugh which is always good. The only class I've had where no one has dropped. He makes everyone feel included and is nice. Good teacher and explains things well, just a little jumbled and late to class sometimes. Wants a "cool boss/coworker" relationship. Doesn't mind if you turn things in late once in a while. Eric is by far my favorite college professor I've had. From day one he was super funny and continued to be every class. There wasn't a day I didn't want to be in class learning. There's five speeches the whole class. Didn't buy the book or need it. I'm really uncomfortable giving speeches and I got 90% on all of them. Very few assignments too.

I'm going to miss Eric. He's seriously the best and you should only take Speech with him. He's hilarious and explains everything clearly. You know exactly what he wants you to do and if he sees you making effort you'll get good grades. Eric is hilarious and is quite honestly a very good speaker. He was anywhere from 5-30 mins late to my class everyday, even on speaking days! He doesnt necessarily use his time wisely, but overall I would take him again. He is very easier grader so, you should be able to pass with a B without much effort.

Each speech was like a research paper, and very exacting requirements in his outline. If you can write, you'll score better. Just giving speeches was less important than learning APA. Better than a disorganized prof, but I wouldn't easily take him again.

I had Eric for my speech 101 class, he's probably one of the nicest professors I've had. The assignments were very clear despite them being online. Overall a very nice man and gives good feedback on assignments.

Take. This. Professor. The requirements are the same as any other Speech 101, but he is hilarious, he is super helpful, he only teaches you what you need to know. He makes a boring mandatory class something I looked forward to attending every time even though attendance wasn't mandatory. I legitimately got sad if I missed class. Take it!

I have Professor Long for Fundamentals of Speech 101 and I love it. Amazing guy, really specific and clear, easy class and even pretty funny. As as long as you do the work each week then you will be fine. Hope to do well the rest of the way. I would so take him again in a heartbeat. Overall awesome professor.

Eric was amazing. I was thinking to myself when this semester began that I would not like it, especially since I am not really good at speech. But I was wrong and I ended up loving it. He was such an easy grader and gave really good feedback. He was also very funny and caring. I am sad its over but I would so take him again in a heartbeat.

Had him for an asynchronous class, but he was still great! He gave a lot of information through his lectures and it gave me a lot of confidence in public speaking. He's genuinely very funny and gave some of the best feedback I've ever gotten. The speeches have a different feeling online but are still tough, but practice makes perfect!

Nice and caring professor. Online lecture attendance is not necessary, just review posted material. As long as you know how to write an essay the only grade you need to focus on is the presentation.

Being someone who hates speech, i actually enjoyed going to his class every week simply because of the class environment overall. This professor is not at all like any professor. He will make you do work (obviously) but also make it fun by relating to students by talking to you like a friend. His class is not easy but also not impossible :)

Professor Long was an intriguing professor. He was very clear on what was needed and what was expected. Textbook was cheap ($30) and not even necessary for most things. Sorry Professor Long, but I stopped reading after chapter 4. Would seem to wander off topic sometimes, but was very good at tying it back into the lecture. Overall fun and chill.

The professor is great. Eric shows up late to every class, but he always makes jokes and puts a smile on everyone's face. Class is easy, but it can be time-consuming.

His only negatives were drawn out stories and bad dad jokes. I do think he could've been clearer on some of his instructions. Regardless, he was always willing to listen to questions and give answers. He was caring - he gave us a lesson on how to use APA just because he knew us new students would need it. He taught the importance of speech.

Great Professor! Very funny, always making jokes nonstop. I have never seen him not smile! I 100% recommend an excellent professor. There are quizzes, a midterm, a final, 3 speeches, speech outlines, one group project, very easy, and a group follow-up assignment. Took this course in the summer for three weeks.

He's funny, in a very fatherly way, which you can immediately see when he starts telling stories and making jokes. The class is pretty easy as well. All assignments add up to 600 points and speeches, which there are 4 of, are from 100-150 points. He's VERY flexible with all assignments and attendance. Great guy I will always recommend for CMS101.

Actual most fun class I've ever taken. Very fun professor, not hard work at all just make sure to come to class and get your work done, it's a few speeches, an APA paper, a group project, and other small assignments. He really knows how to keep you entertained and focused during lectures.

I had a love-hate relationship with his class. His lectures were always enjoyable because he is very funny. However, I despised having to give speeches, despite them being fairly easy and him not being a tough grader. Overall, the class is not difficult, and even though he says you need the textbook, truth is you really don't so save your money.

SUCH a fun class. Eric's style of teaching is incredibly laid-back, but he never fails to get his message across. If you are a nervous speaker, this is the class for you. The atmosphere is non-judgmental and comfortable for those with little public speaking experience. Grading is quite generous, but not unfair. I'd 100% take this class again.

There are 3 speeches in total, 2 can be done on zoom. Have to have 6 people for the speeches. Pretty easy class for the most part.

He is very lenient and understanding when you have stuff going on. Absolutely absolutely take this professor. He made a normally boring class into an amazing one

Professor Eric is amazing - funny, caring, and creates a positive class environment. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is manageable. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for speech prep.

This class is a psy-op where Professor Long does stand up for an hour and still manages to give insightful, easy-to-metabolize lectures that set you up for the class and American communication. He's very clear about how you will be graded, what you will be graded on, and why he is teaching you what he teaches. Amazing communicator and educator.

Cool guy and he's an easy grader, honestly just laugh at his jokes and pay attention and it seems like he grades you a bit better, speeches weren't hard to do. Nice guy

If you are taking your first ever public speaking class, Eric is the man you want as your professor. He made the class environment fun and is super easy going. P.S - you do not need the book. Yes, it's only $40, BUT I only used it about twice during the semester.

You don't just learn about the fundamentals of speech, you learn a lot about life and you laugh a lot in this class. Eric was a great professor, if you are nervous about speaking in front of others, by the end of this class you won't be. This class felt like a real college class and comedy show at the same time. Best professor ever!

Eric is very kind and wants to help you to the best of his ability. All of the assignments are pretty easy, and are important. Speeches are easy, he's pretty lenient on some things, just make sure to do them right. He's funny and I've honestly never been bored in class.
