I have no idea how the hell I even passed this class.It's ridiculously hard, he does not prepare you for the tests, and he is totally unclear in his lectures.
This man is the worst science teacher I have had even back as far as 1st grade. He is a big time jerk, and will not make any special effort to help a student. I only made a B- because of my high school sciences. Simply put, our class avg. was a 59 - F
He might be a good teacher if he didn't speak in a monotone, helped his students, and had tests that had anything to do with his lectures. But, he doesn't. I can't believe I even passed this class. Don't take this man. Whatever you do.
Not fun. You will have 20 hermaphroditic worms and a multiple choice question that says: which of the following is hermaphroditic? Don't do it! He's very intelligent but belongs in a research lab, not a classroom. blah.

Brilliant man, but his tests are really hard and the questions are worded in such a way that they can be really confusing. He does have an online site with all the notes and study guides, which helps a little, and he lets you do lots of extra credit in the lab.
I had to drop his class because it was so freakin hard. The tests had nothin to do with his lecture. He belongs in a research field. He has no people skills and is monotonous. He's boring and stale.
Unless you are just crazy about critters, avoid his zoology class. This is the only class I've ever flunked and I do a good job studying and giving effort. I'm sorry but I just can't tell the difference between one blood parasite from the next......
I had him for an intro bio class and he was acting like we were all bio majors.....everyone failed his first test....he had to have us retake it....twice.....not a good teacher at all!!!

This guy has apparently spent his entire life in a lab! Teaching methods and PERSONALITY are monotonous and just plain BORING! The man has a Ph.D. in Biology and can't even pronounce Nucleus it is NU CLEE US not NU KU LUS!!! BEWARE!

I had Lovely for Zoology and Coastal Ecology. His tests are difficult, but he makes you learn your stuff and I thought he was an excellent teacher, always willing to help you outside of class. I would recommend him.
Dr. Lovely has been my absolute FAVORITE professor. If you're going to take Zoology, take him. He knows his stuff. He wants you to do good, and if you study hard, go to lab, and are interested in the material, you will do great. Take any class with him; he's a great professor!!

Unnecessary hard for intro bio. Take somebody else, quick... Hard tests and quizzes. No fun at all. Belongs to museum or such.
Brilliant man, not so wonderful a teacher..
He does not go out of his way for students. He was supposed to be my advisor and I tried to go by his office or schedule an appt to set up my classes. Turns out, he was only available the week before school started... when every class is already taken anyways. Didnt really seem to care about students, cares more about the animals in there.
This is the hardest class I have ever had and would not recomend this class to anyone, not even a major!
Awful, awful professor. Will not help students at all! I went to him and asked him what I was not understanding for the test (because I studied for 3 days straight and then failed) and he said to read the chapter and write everything I thought was important down. Well we went over 8 chapters. He is difficult to follow and I would NOT recommend.
This guy is a terrible professor. And it is the hardest class i have had. He gives powere points, but they are completely useless. His tests are all open response questions and are way too hard for an intro course. Almost half of my class dropped. I highly recommend everyone to take another professor.

DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! I'm a 4.0 student, and attempting to get an A is damn near impossible. He drones incessantly about nothing, pop-quizes you couldn't answer w/out a P.h.D, and his tests are PURE essay. I could rather eat my left nutt than take this guy again

Way too hard for an Intro. class. I was really excited about taking biology but it faded quickly. His test and quizzes are ridiculous! I failed every one of them. They are worded weird and have little to do with lectures. You have to know ALL the terms in the book. Or be a biology major. He's just boring, although smart. DON'T TAKE!
I would never ever take this man again. I might as well have taken the class online because I got nothing at all except a bad quiz grade from going to the class. He gave essay quizes almost every day and did not teach me anything. EVERYTHING I learned during the semester was self taught. I should have been paid for teaching me, not him!

Horrible professor. Tests are ridiculous. Gives study guides for tests but they are composed of 60 or more essay questions and he only picks about 10. Lecture is composed of him droning on and on from his useless power points. Very smart man, but he should just stay in the lab with his critters

Very intelligent man, a treasure trove of knowledge about invertebrates. Only problem is that he does not know how to communicate said knowledge. He babbles, and drones on in a horrific monotone. Take his class, do the study guides, lectures are a bust. Loves life cycles and worms.
Lovely has powerpoints that he teaches from. Bad thing is: they're nearly completely different from the book. And the tests are from the book. So you could totally not go to class at all, do the bookwork, and still pass the tests. But you might get griped at.
I took him for Parasitology and I don't know why all of these people are complaining. Sure he gives a 60 question study guide..but at least he gives one! He tells you what is on the exam and you have the job of memorizing it! He is amazing and very informative and precious! screw all you lazy freshmen who want everything bottle fed to them
Took his class during Summer semester. His test were crazy study guides had 100 essays and 300 vocab but he only would put 10-15 essays on test. His power points had nothing to do with test for most part. He is very boring to listen to.
Lovely does out of date powerpoints that are different from the book and the test are mixed both from book and lectures. Listening to a monotone lecture was diffucult but his powerpoints and lectures were all off, some very incorrect information (according to the 2011 book)!!
Not an easy class. Be willing to give up most of your free time because you will be studying your butt off. His lectures are basically overviews of the subjects and he expects you to learn things on your own. Very challenging, but very informative. Do the study guides and review them often to make a good grade in here. You get out what you put in.

He rambles all over the place and uses "Ah" and "Um" a ton. If you have a voice recorder to later type out notes to his lecture, use it! But, he also tends to get off track and somehow manages to only semi-answer your questions and his study guides are long and tedious.
This class took dedication and lots of hardwork, lovely may not have the best communication skills but he is very very knowledgable and hes a good teacher. Attend class cuz he covers study guide questions..look forward too taking coastal ecology

Dr. Lovely is GREAT for Parasitology and Coastal Ecology. I didn't have him for zoology, but I heard that class is tough w/him. Parasit- take good notes, fill out ALL of study guide, and the test will be about 20 questions straight from the study guide. Coastal Eco- best class tech offers! Very hands on. But a few papers due @ the end.
This was a tougher class for me. But the best part is, is that he gives you a review and if you do all of it and memorize the whole thing you should be ok. Be prepared to hear "uh" or "um" 100's of times in the 50 mins you're with him becuase I counted one day and it went to 414, kinda gets annoying.
This class is not that hard. He will give you a study guide at the beginning of the year. If you pay attention to his lecture you can usually pick out which question from the study guide he will use. Beyond those, the rubric he used for our class made it almost impossible to fail. HOWEVER______YOU_______MUST______STUDY
He gives you study guides for the test, but they are ALL ESSAY. Difficult course, especially if you're a science major and in other courses. He will almost never answer your questions because he wants to "see how you interpret it" and be prepared to do a LOT of independent study. Doable, but very difficult.
This class was very difficult for me. I dropped as soon as I saw the second study guide. 160 essay questions and around 90 fill in the blanks. He only takes about 10-12 questions from the study guide. My friend who is still taking him said that several people ripped up their tests and chucked them into the trash on the way out.
I dropped and changed my major as soon as I saw the second study guide. I just couldn't handle this class plus chem 2 and cal 1 all at the same time. He's very knowledgeable about this subject. Just can't teach it very well. If you can't do essay questions don't take his class. Tests are all essay.
Dr.Lovely gave an extensive review of the study guide when attending class. If you decide to skip class and not pay attention, you will fail. I received a good grade because I read the book to answer the questions chronologically. If you do this you will succeed. It isn't that hard...
I had Dr. Eric Lovely for Principles of Zoology. Dr. Lovely is REMARKABLY knowledgeable in the zoological sciences. It's imperative that you punctually complete, comprehend, and mentally retain the content of the study guides assigned to you upon the introduction of the semester. This class is not incredibly difficult; however, it is demanding.
If you take Dr. Lovely, be prepared to spend most of your time studying for his class alone, not that it will help you.
I had Dr. Lovely for Principles of Zoology and he was awesome. I never made below a 96 on any of his tests and even made a 100 once. His test are essay style and the questions aren't stupid easy, but if you pay attention in lecture and do the study guides you will pass. Also, he is always available for help and has a great personality.
Lovely is not an easy teacher, but he is a good lecturer. He gives very long study guides, and the tests are only 8 questions long on average, and he always has one day specifically for review, and if you ask him he will tell you some of the stuff to focus on. if you focus on this stuff, and some of the bigger topics you will be fine. lab is tough
This is by no means an easy course. But if you do the work, keep up with the assignments, attend class, and study then you should pass. He has long lectures and essay style tests and gives you a study guide. A very knowledgable man and willing to help. If you're not prepared to work for your grade then don't bother taking this course.
Tests are 100% essay, but do the study guide and you'll do great. Don't. Cheat. Read the units and know your life cycles. He's not kidding about the homework- stay on top of it. As long as you do the study guides you'll be fine. If you don't know the answer at all at least write something down. You get at least a point even if it's wrong.
I took two of his classes; Zoology and Parasitology. He is very passionate about the classes that he teachers even if he doesn't show it in lecture. As long as you take notes and do your homework you will do fine on the tests. Be sure to work hard in lab because that can help with your grade. ATTEND CLASS; part of your grade is attendance!
This is a tough class, but it does get better towards the end. DO THE HOMEWORK! All tests are essay based. The tests come straight from the homework - but here's the kicker, out of the 60ish homework questions, he will only choose 8 for the test. I've never studied so much in my life.
If zoology is not your hardest class, where you can spend plenty of time reviewing the homework, this class will be a struggle. Between mechanistic chemistry and genetics, zoology is not even close to priority and study time is low. The lecture is usually irrelevant to test and test is all of your grade. Hate the teaching style.
Lecture not relevant to the tests. Mostly independent study/ homework prepares you for the test. Will NOT help, answer questions, or even return phone calls outside of class.

Dr. Lovely turned out to be a really great prof. His courses are difficult but at the end of the semester you are very knowledgeable about the subject. I plan on taking another one of his courses next semester. Hang in there, it will get better. He truly cares about his students.

Dr. Lovely is great! He seems to have a bad rep because he makes the tests where you have to study. Dont fret, lab is worth a huge chunk. Take your time on the tests and you will be just fine. Started off the semester with an F and got a high B for the class.

Make sure you do all the hw because those questions are what will be on the tests. Make sure you get a good lab grade because it will help a lot on the overall grade. Lectures are good but sometimes he will go out on a tangent about things that aren't relevant with test/hw, but still interesting.

Be prepared to invest a lot of time into homework and studying. You will essentially be teaching yourself in this class, as lectures are useless since Dr. Lovely will go off on a tangent about something irrelevant to the course. In summary, the workload is abysmal and lectures are useless.
First mixed class for COVID. Relied heavily on homework questions posted on Tophat. GET THE TEXTBOOK; many questions were taken directly from it, so you can use that to find what chapter you need to be in, and in the long run it's less stressful and more helpful than googling. Smart but not a great teacher- ask lots of questions to mine for info.
Dr. Lovely is a great professor. The lectures may not go into as much detail as the textbook but he makes it clear you should read. He genuinely cares about his students and it shows since he always makes clear when he is available. It's not a hard class unless you make it a hard class. If you struggle with this class, choose a different major.
The homework on mcgrawhill is absolutely ridiculous but if you actually do all of your homework (which requires you to read the book) you will do well on test. There are open-ended questions on the tests and that's the hardest part. Lectures aren't mandatory but if you go to class and do all of your homework Dr. lovely will help you out if needed.
I don't know if people took a different zoology class than I did, but it is the hardest class that you can take at Tech. The tests were impossible. I studied 40 hours for each one of his tests. The subject is so hard and Dr. Lovely does not make it easier. His lectures are painfully boring and he just babbles on and on. I hated this class so much.
Dr. Lovely can be tough. His ratings are all over the place because it seems like he changes his course layout every semester. I think I had him for an easier year. His tests were tough but he curved or gave us the chance to correct out test answers. READ and REREAD THE TEXTBOOK. His tests are worded like the textbook. His lectures are not enough.
Dr. Lovely is a very knowledgeable man, but his teaching method is not for everyone. He reads off slides full of pictures and says words you probably have never heard of, which makes it pretty hard to take notes and understand the material. All of the multiple choice test q's came from the McGraw Hill Chapter Reviews. Labs are interesting and easy.
Dr. lovelys lectures consist of an hour of nonsense ramblings. He jumps right into the course talking about advanced zoology stuff without giving any basic knowledge of it first. Atleast attendance isn't mandatory. his test are extremely difficult. The only way to pass his test is to study the chapter reviews on Mcgraw Hill. They are word for word.
Dr. Lovely can get a bad rap. I came in already with a negative outlook on the guy. He has proven me wrong tho! He has helped where he could, and grades relatively leniently. He can be quiet and reserved and YES, he might not be the most welcoming fellow up front, but besides that, he is a good professor. TIP: Ask him question! He loves those!
Yes, this class is very difficult. That said, he cares for the success of his students. The lab reports for principles of Zoology aren't as bad as they seem when you are assigned your first one. Pay attention in lectures and you will do fine on the essay portions of the exams. Do connect practice tests and you will be fine on multiple choice.
Dr. Lovely gets a bad rap because people are not willing to put in the work in his class. He literally gives you the exam questions before every exam all you have to do is study them. I went in there several times to study specimens for taxonomy and he was always happy to let me in the specimen room and even helped me identify several specimens.
Dr. Lovely really isn't that bad. He is genuinely interested in the things he teaches, so he uses more terms that are very specific. You don't have to go to lecture, but you should as the things taught in lecture are the open response questions. As long as you actually put in the time to read the book and study what he gives you, you will succeed.
Lovely is a zoology guru! He gets a bad rap for having high expectations and not spoon-feeding his students, but his wealth of knowledge and passion for zoology is incredible. Although he can seem a bit intimidating and standoffish, I highly recommend participating, asking questions, and communicating with him. I promise he wants you to succeed!
Taking Professor Lovely's Zoology class was a letdown. The class average was only 68%. Before dropping, I had a 42%, and although Lovely was aware of my current disability related struggles he refused to offer any type of assistance or curve to my grade. When e-mailing him for this it felt like an automated response. He's smart, but isn't helpful.

While Dr Lovely is incredibly smart, he is a TERRIBLE teacher. It feels like expected students to already have a good grasp on what is being taught. He recommends you buy the McGraw Hill online textbook/"homework" but I didn't find it to help me on the tests. I have had all A's throughout college but I barely made it out of this class with a D.
Lovely's Zoology class requires dedication, but he's a knowledgeable professor. Attend lectures, utilize the free textbook, and consider Unstuck study for effective study prep. While he has high expectations, engaging with the material can lead to success.
He's not a bad guy but should definitely try to put in more effort with this job. Dr. Eric was constantly late with grading our tests, didn't bother showing up for the labs, and was up to 10 minutes late most days. It is crucial to attend every class. It is up to the student to determine what kinds of questions will be on the tests
Dr. Lovely is... interesting. I took him my first semester in my freshman year. Lectures were more or less helpful most days. However, the material discussed isn't 'difficult'. Furthermore, I found the online textbook *incredibly* helpful. Lab reports can help boost grade, be sure to do good on them! Consider visiting his office hours as well.
