I think he is laid back and cool. He's cute to!
He is a very fair and precise teacher. If you need help, he will explain the concept over and over until you get it. He cares very much about whether you pass or, but at t he same time, he treats you like an adult. If you're responsible you pass.
he's so nice and so easy to talk to. i love going to his class, mostly cause he's really hot.
This teacher makes learning so interesting! Especially because he uses his own stories to explain things. Very easy going. Totlly eye candy too! Mmmmm!!
Interesting teacher, although he isn't very clear on presentations and sometimes waits until the last minute to tell you what exactly he is expecting from you. Not an easy grader either. Otherwise...nice teacher, ok material, not as easy an A as other COMM classes.
Total****.
he gives you to many assignments at a time. and he grades unfairly he wants your presentations to be (president speech material) in order for an A. He also gives exams and speeches at the same time. Too much work for a communication class!
Damn this guy sucks, I wouldnt take his class again if it was the only open section in comm. Naw he not too bad easy A (i hope) if you put some effort.
He is a really cool teacher, his class is easy, but his grade is not hard you just have to work for it. And he is hot!!!
Really awesome teacher...he is so hot...I went to class just to see him. Easy class as long as you show up and put forth some effort. Easy extra credit assignments...did i mention he is hot. ;)
He is an extremely cute professor and he is an awesome teacher. His class is interesting and fun.
take him you'll like him hes great i got an A so umm yeah, theres a lot of research involved for speeches but hes good, and hes cute and adorable(comming from his "worst class" haha
Orale! He is a very cool teacher, his assignments are easy if you do them on time. Ask questions if u don't understand. It is an easy A, then again it is easy to fail as well. His lectures are not boring but make sure u attend class!
An awesome guy, he's helpful, humble exciting, and always interesting with his stories and spin off comments. if you don't get an A in his class you weren't trying at all. His open mind and attitude to help the students in any way earns him great respect as a teacher. open up and he's a very fun guy, close off and he'll still try to reach you.
I loved this class. We did do a lot of research especially for our persuasive speech. But I always had fun in his class. There was never a dull moment. What I liked most was walking in that class to see a sexy young professor. He is so hot.
Great teacher. A great alternative to Eng 116. It is a fun class whee everyone gets involved in. He is very respectful of people's opinions and very passionate about debate. Few homework, and you are mostly graded by your performance (as long as you really try, you'll get a good grade).
Great fun instructor. Work is needed to pass his class. Great having you here
this teacher is nice and funny he helps you before your debates with enthusiasm his class is very fun i would recommend this teacher to anybody!
The best teacher ever. He's pretty strict when it comes to your outlines for your speeches but he makes the class feel comfortable so it's not as hard to get up in front of the class. Hes funny and real nice. VERY CUTE!! If you have to take this class I highly recommend this teacher. He realy does help you.
Very cool guy. Easy class. Just make sure you meet all the requeriments for his out lines
I took his course last semester and he is awesome. Although, the outlines for the speeches are rather tedious and he is very strict on them as long as you do enough research you should be fine. He is funny, he makes the classroom environment light. This works especially well when your really nervous about presenting your speech. Good times.
I definitely recommend him. I just took his winter class and it was great! He makes everybody laugh. Really good man. Everybody likes him: boys and girls. As long as you follow his instructions and work on your assignments you will pass with a good grade!
I took this class over the winter session and i cant express how much good of a teacher Eric is.He respects his students, hes funny and he is serious about students respecting other students when delivering speeches Over the winter session was kind of hard but if u have determination and Eric in your corner it seems like nothing Plz TAKE HIS CLASSE
He is one of those rare teachers that you find that act like your friends yet act like teachers at the same time. He is a great person and he makes class fun and interesting and you learn a lot from him
The teacher should be more clear with his requirements and with the class. He should be more helpful and support his students.
There isn't anyone I wouldn't recommend him to.
The best teacher you can wish for.He is always very clear about his assignments, very supportive, and extremely helpful. He was very organized and explained the concepts so anybody could understand them. The debate class was kind of hard but I wouldn't see making it with any other teacher.
E Maag is one of the coolest humans I know he is a ****, if you are taking this class and are scared of talking don't worry this guy makes it fun although this is not an easy class but this teacher makes it fun and since you are graded only on two or three debates you have to earn your grade.
His class structure and lessons are boring. He tries making the class fun by using lame jokes. Theres about 3 speeches and two test.
Good teacher if you are a young student and interested in going to 13th grade after high school. For those of us who are older, work full time, and are going to school to actually get a degree, I wouldn't recommend. Very unaccomodating to varying schedules & inconsiderate towards working adults. Pick someone else if you're older than 20.
very helpful teacher. do what he asks and you'll get an a. show that you enjoy the class and it'll be an even easier ride. his jokes aren't that lame, only tedious. good guy all around.
eric is one of those chill teachers who is more than a teacher, hes a buddy. His class is pretty easy, just show up when needed, take notes and do the few assignments he gives out. three speeches, two tests(one is group). He is a funny dude and will make u feel comfortable getting up infront of others to speak. Take em. Easy A if u do work
He is an amazing teacher and debate coach! Don't get it twisted.
Eric is really chill. He is more like a friend than a teacher, but he does a good job at teaching communication and making even those who are shy feel comfortable. Class is easy. Tests are simple if you pass your notes. One personal narrative, one group project, and one speech (and yes you must present them all in front of the class). Take him.
A really calm, laid-back guy who he leads a fun class. This articular class isn't that easy if you aren't interested or don't put forth any effort, but, regardless, I would recommend him to anyone.
maag is a easy going guy he makes the class fun, really interesting, highly recommend him, easy A, if you do the work, which is not that much, plus its kinda fun
Eric is an awesome teacher! He goes out of his way to make things clear and doesn't mind repeating himself when needed. He is very easygoing and makes it easy to participate in debates and get over shyness. I highly recommend taking this teacher.
He's funny, he curses a lot and you can't win in an argument with him. He's also very young and lively.
I took Prof. Maag for Com103 and got an A. The semester's grade consisted of 3 speeches: a personal narrative, a group project, and a persuasive speech; 3 tests: 1st one you do by yourself, 2nd one group test, and 3rd is cumulative final that you do yourself, all of which are true/false & multiple guess questions. The tests are based on class notes
HE IS VERY FUNNY , HE SHOULD BE INTO ACTING!! LIKE HOW HE SHOWS EXAPLES. TEACHES SOME CHAPTERS AND THE STUDENTS PRESENT OTHER CHAPTERS AS A GROUP. FINAL WAS WITHOUT ANY OUTLINE AND "JUST GO OVER EVERYTHING WE COVERED". DID MY BEST AND GOT B. YOUNG, FUN AND REALISTIC APPROACH. HAD FUN!
Class was easy and fun. Other than prepping for the debates There wasn't much homewrk and debating was enjoyable.
Class requires work, but he makes it fun and worthwhile. Young, so he's entertaining and able to relate to the kids. Funny dude. Would take him again, without a doubt
Maag is a good teacher but he's really strict about attendance. So be careful. The class is interesting so long as the people enrolled are involved and opinionated. My advice is to REALLY pick a good partner who will not flake on you because trust me, the more you study together the better you'll debate as a team. This class WILL require studying.
Eric is a Great teacher. He's super funny and HE'S SUPER HOT! what else do you want? TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!
Very moody teacher! But hes very motivated by what he does. I took him for debate, and he'll beat any argument in the world. Its a really fun class but you have to work at it.
this is one of the best teacher you can have super fun chill and you learn alot without alot of work he gets a little moodie but thats only if you a pain toatlly worth the time take the class
Great instructor.. (Debate Class) Overall as long as you prepare you will do fine. As a final debate winner I can personally say that this class is one of the best I have taken at this school. Eric is smart, funny, moody, but very devoted to his teachings. GREAT CLASS!!!!. BTW have you shaved? or do you still look like Jesus?
He is hilarious. Has great/funny examples to help us remember and understand. I took him this summer so it was a fast track but didn't feel like it cause he wasn't in a rush to cover material like some are. He's not the cutest at 1st glance but his personality makes him HOT. If I wasn't taken I'd show him a few things ; ]
great teacher!!!
This class was confusing at the begining.Professor didnt keep our work, so at the end of semester, we all had to start all over again if we hadn't saved our work.He kept adding and removing assignments. In the end, everyone did farely well. The debates were great, a little nerve racking but fun. TAKE THE CLASS.Stay on top of it & save your work!!!!!
He's a pretty cool guy. I think he leaves his own ratings especially the ones where they say he's cute! LMAO kuz he is not! He's a laid back and great teacher he will make you presentate infront of the class 3 times but it's nit that bad. Practice and you will go far, ask him about best group projects!
He is okay. A little into himself and the ladies. Decent class.
The debate course and eng 116 are the same... so unless you want a person to(your debate partner)have an affect your grade, spend 3-4 hours studying material at home, or feel this high sense of confusion/frustration then i suggest you stick to writing simple essays in eng 116. This debate class takes alot of work and isn't for procrastinaters.
If your struggling with this class withdrawl before it's too late it's a hard class that needs much dedication ! * Tip- he gives you 2-3 weeks to choose a debate partner so within those few weeks sit at a different seat to see how other students work ,the end result is one of these people will indeed affect your grade in the class (scary i know!)
Fun and involved. Relates to students as opposed to separation of roles. Pretty to look at. :-) He also requires attendance and participation.
You will burn alive if you do not do everything according to his time frame. He gives plenty of time to do assignments. I think young college kids over look his friendliness and take advantage of it, or so they think and it back fires on them in the end because they don't take deadlines seriously. He'll help you, if you help yourself and initiate.
Okay class, he's cool/laid back but serious academically speaking. Ugh, I do not like him, he has a kind of arrogant/sarcastic personality, I wouldn't take him again.. but everybody else seemed to like him
He has a fun personality and is passionate about debating. Definitely one of the cuter teachers in the school, but also one of the more serious ones. His COMM160 class engages students and if you never liked debating before, you will after taking his class! The course could be difficult to understand at first so make sure to pay attention and study
Maag is a cool dude. He is really funny. Sometimes he will cuss, however it is funny when he does. Comm. 160 is no joke its hard, but maag makes it enjoyable.
HE LOOKS REALLY CHILL BUT DONT MISJUDGE HIM, HE KNOWS HIS STUFF. JUST DO REALLY GOOD ON THE GROUP FINAL, GET GOOD CLASSMATES IN YOUR GROUP THEN YOU'L BE FINE. HE LIKES TO GET THE CLASS TO GET TO KNOW EACHOTHER FROM THE START WHICH WAS AWESOME.
This guy is the jesus of education and communication.Simply an amazing person. Teaching skills are excellent. Definition of a perfect teacher? I think so.
Had this guy in 3 different classes so I know him pretty well. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He gives great examples and works hard to ensure his students understand the material. His only flaw is currently he has been really busy, and may not be putting all of his attention to his teaching. Take him
Very interesting and down to earth. He clearly enjoys speaking to his students and keeps things entertaining. Hardly any work to do, though when there are group projects you need to step up your game for the sake of your grade. Tests were easy so long as you pay attention and read the book. You'll learn to be a better public speaker for sure.
The best teacher i''ve ever had so far and probably among the best in Southwestern. He really enjoys teaching and interacting with his students. Hes got some amazing stories to tell and hes really funny. Not a lot of homework except for group projects. Class is really fun and I would definitely take it again. Great guy great teacher
I'm a very timid person. When i realized i had to go up in front of everyone in class to speak, i was very scared. Although, professor Maag changed that. He made the class feel comfortable while talking with you & sharing his own life with the students. Expect to participate or else you won't pass.
Maag is that professor you are likely to not forget because of his teaching style. It is evident that he is the chair for the communications department because of his extensive knowledge, experience and genuine care for us students and staff members. He made debate so interesting and fun, that I will like join the team during fall. Highly recommend
He is a good teacher. If you pay attention his class is easy. Beware though that first test you take be sure to really study because there were a lot of definitions. Overall it is a fun class and he is pretty funny.
Maag was GREAT! His tests were a bit difficult since I was half asleep in his class since it was at 7am. However, his lectures are easy to understand. I got D's on each of my tests but I guess I did good on my oral presentations because I passed the class with an A. Your final is a group project so choose your partners carefully!
Maag is so far my favorite, this is my second time taking him and I would definitely take him again. Attendance matters and tests require studying. His lectures are entertaining, he's very funny and down to earth. He doesn't give away A's so if you're aiming for one you have to put in the effort. Great Prof if you're scared of public speaking.
great teacher. gives feedback and lets students challenge the tests.
Eric Maag is legit, when I first started out at swc I didn't know what to major in, I took an argumentation class with him and quickly fell in love with debate. Eric is fair in grading, he hates when people arrive late. Take his class you wont regret it :)
This man, holy cow. He is the real deal, motivational, comical, unique, never boring, challenging, etc. What's not to say about Maag, seriously. Highly recommend, however he is going on sabbatical this upcoming semester(s), but when he returns, you will not make a mistake taking his class. A+ prof, 10/10, would take again.
He is a great teacher and makes this class so much fun. If you don't mind talking in front of people this class should be an easy A.
Great professor. Tells many examples towards the topic that are odd but super hilarious. Took this class over the summer, and had no problem passing you just have to do the assignments and you will be good which are not that many either. Really cool guy to have as a teacher hands down.
He knew we were all there because a COMM class is required to go to State, and he was okay with that. He doesn't try to make himself or the class more important than either really are. Show up on time, complete your work, and always challenge him for a better grade on everything.
I was recommended to take professor Maags class and it was my favorite class of the semester. Hes very easy going and cares about the students, all while being light hearted and giving good feedback. Communication classes are known for being nerve wracking but I never felt nervous presenting in his class because of the environment he created.
I went into this class really nervous and shy because I'm not fond of public speaking, but Professor Maag made it so easy to talk in his class because of the flow he created for the class. He gives good feedback and interesting lectures. Tells you exactly what he expects for each speech which made it easier for me. Great professor, highly recommend
I was so nervous at first, but he made it easy to deal with. He tells you exactly what is expected of you and specifically to attendance. He expects you to be in class and on time. Tests are tough, so study for them and group project is important for your grade. He is great to look at so it makes the class time easier to deal with.
Prepare for your speeches and youll do fine!
If you come in and do what he says to do and how to do it your good. Your first abscence is a free-bee. Hes funny as heck. Be brepared for your debates or you will loose. But yeah hes cool!!!
Professor Maag is an easy going, firm, cool professor with great experience in his field. He is very fair in his grading scale as long as he sees you put in the work and make a great effort by giving it your best shot. He's Willing to work with you if you experience difficulty understanding the proper process, especially in an accelerated course.
Awesome professor, stay on his good side by showing up to class or he will tell you to drop. Tough grader, give it your all on the group project and FYI, your group members are in control of 25 points of your group project grade. Show respect and don't use your phone in class, he doesn't like it and you might have a bad time if you get warned a lot
really knowledgeable
I was in love with this class! Professor Maag is an easy going guy but he takes his job seriously, hes very straight forward with his grading process. Theres a lot of public speaking but thats expected. he creates a safe environment for those who are nervous. Hes such an inspiration and I loved his lectures. 100% recommend this class.
Mr. Eric took over our COMM 160 class when Mrs. Grace got sick & after she passed away. He did a great job helping us get through the final weeks without her & was very compassionate & caring about our class & how to do grades and help us. He did a great job giving us feedback on our debates and helping us grow. I appreciate his kindness so much!
While he does give good feedback, my problem is it's feedback you never thought you needed to do. There was no clear/precise rubric and you never really knew which points he took off when it came to grading your work. Read instructions carefully and take everything to heart, you never know if he'll take five points off for one small thing.
I took Mr. Maag's class in the summer 2020 (online due to COVID) and even though we never met each other in person the atmosphere was great. His dynamics made us bond with each other. He is hilarious, down to earth and super real. His grading criteria could be more clear but I think it was because it was his first time teaching online. Recommended.
The professor gives you what you need so no textbook needed :) As long as you do the reading and watch the examples you should be good. Yes you have to debate in a group (twice)so learn the material. He is very understanding and considerate when it comes to the debates so don't stress so much :) He is very outgoing and a nice person.
Fair/Easy grader, the weekly discussions and quizzes are super easy to do once you get the hang of it. The quizzes are open notes so fairly easy to pass with a 10/10. Really 2 major projects.
Took this class in the Winter intersession and even wished it was longer. I loved taking debate with him, overall an amazing professor even with the online mode.
There is a weekly discussion & quiz but its not hard. We did about two speeches in the beginning and then a group project presentation. Our final was a speech. Overall it was a pretty easy class. As long as you keep up with your work you will be fine
The professor is great. He made a ton of videos so even if it was asynchronous he was explaining everything, which is very much appreciated. The class itself was a little weird and really fast paced and then really slow (maybe because it was a summer class). Either way I would take him again because he's cool.
I really enjoyed learning debate from Professor Maag. As long as you complete all the assignments, expect an A in his class. I highly recommend this teacher to anyone who wants to learn how to debate.
Eric Maag is an amazing professor. Honestly, the best human possible. I 100% recommend him. He is caring and truly understands his students. Don't let speech and debate scare you; take the course. He is amazing!
apply effort and he's there right with you. do your best -he can tell & it will reflect in your grade. this online course during summer time students were sleeping not ready and didn't participate. by end of course my attempts at debate were considered extra credit due to lack of argumentative side. he's great. take class do speeches get A! no book
He provides lecture videos but they are painfully long. He gives you the information needed to pass but I wish he could disperse the concepts and not cram them all into a one hour long video.
Took his fast-track argumentation and debate course. I was beyond nervous for this class but this professor didn't make me feel scared or pressured. I appreciate his kindness and feedback, would take another course with him!
He is one of the most knowledgeable instructors I have ever had. Prepare to actively engage, do your homework, participate, and begin planning to practice your speech, and you will certainly pass this course. He is very flexible and will give you a lot of extra credit. I highly recommend him as you will definitely learn from this class.
Overwhelming amounts of assignments that are intense Be prepared to receive more than necessary emails weekly The first day of class he sent 21 emails will NOT allow any flexibility for late assignments at all I had Covid and asked for a extension on 2 assignments due that week he approved then deducted my score because it was late
He's a pretty chill/laid back dude, but his expectations are that of a high school teacher's. I wouldn't recommend taking this teacher if you have a busy schedule, he does NOT tolerate tardies or absences and will lock assignments if it is too late on Canvas. Other than that you should be fine, if you prefer structure rather than flexibility.
My complaints aren't with the professor, rather the course itself. Comm160 is incredibly hard. I took it in my first college semester, and it was extremely tough; that coming from a former AP student in high school. Eric however, is a really good prof. He genuinely cares, and is willing to help, which I respect. Put the effort in and you'll pass.
Overall Professor Maag was very kind, helpful and clear in all of his expectations. There were a few quizzes, two debates, and one final essay for the class, so it was not too difficult! I'd definitely recommend taking his class.
THIS PROFESSOR UNDERSTANDS THE YOUTH. HE CARES AND ENSURES THAT YOU UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL. HE GIVES YOU PRACTICE IN CLASS, HE GIVES YOU REAL LIFE ADVISE THAT YOU CAN TAKE WITH YOU. THIS CLASS AND THE PROFESSOR ARE AMAZING.
Dope teacher, although fairly difficult, it was the most fun class I've had in college. Regarding debates, you need to find a good partner, a strong voice and do extensive research on your own time to make it far. This class challenges your critical thinking skills and ability to think on your feet. Meet him halfway, he'll reciprocate your efforts.
Very group oriented, it is a communications class after all. Working in groups and presenting projects is his main form of grading.
There are two debates, one where research is allowed prior and another where you get the topic the day of the debate. Apart from that, there is a 5-7 page research essay on the first topic of debate. He is super helpful and understanding when it comes to debate and grading.
Great Professor! Caring and understanding that debate is not an easy subject to get a hang of. If you need extra help just ask him and he would be more than happy to help.
didn't let me add the class even though i had already registered and was never wait listed. added me 2 weeks late, never helped me even when i had questions since i was already behind ended up having to drop the class
By far my favorite professor at SWC! He has a good way of teaching and helping his students learn. He is super funny, making staying engaged during lectures very easy. The class itself was easy. Make sure you are prepared for debates and you'll pass! %100 recommend taking him!
COMM160 is the best class I have taken at SWC. Eric is experienced and understanding and will personally support you if you are willing to put in the effort and take the debates seriously. You will work closely throughout the semester with your debate partner so choose carefully because it will dictate your experience in this class.
The best debate dad ever lol. Chill and is great at explaining things in detail. Super helpful and gives great feedback for debates. Participate, be respectful, show good effort and you'll have a great time.
This class was tough, but Professor Maag genuinely cares and is willing to help. He has high expectations, but if you put in the effort, you can succeed. I found Unstuckstudy really helpful for test prep - it's a great study tool alongside the course materials.
