Chill teacher who is fun to listen too, such random discussions, lol
Most boring class I've ever taken, easily.
easy, just talk in class... about sociology stuff like boys and girls relationships, family relationships, etc. pretty cool prof. bought us food...
i felt more stupid by attending class
Lectures the whole class, but his lectures are interesting. Easy paper topics, very excieted about Sociology.
VERY boring... you won't learn anything, but easy A and he doesnt take role.
Easy class, doesn't take role, boring at times, discussions are very random, but if you listen they can be interesting at times. Funny guy.
Eric (prefers students to call him by his first name although he has a Ph.D), is a nice guy..his classes are not very demanding in terms of work but his lectures tend to be boring although he incorporates his random sense of humor...he is helpful too =)
No point whatsoever in going to class. pointless lectures. rambles on about god-knows-what. Not a good teacher at all. good person, but didnt understand what he was talking about. complete waste of time - really easy though
eric is a really nice guy but has no idea how to teach. he tries tho. anyways, if you want an easy class take him but be sure to do the reading
He is the least intelligent man I have ever met in my entire life. He doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. He paraphrases the reading - everyday! You will not learn anything. I feel like part of my has been wasted, having attended his class.
seriously, it seems easy and it is. but he's a sh*tty prof and sucks at teaching. his grading is very inconsistent and you really will have no clue what your grade'll be. DONT TAKE HIM!!!
he's a really cool guy, but his lectures are really boring and you don't really have to go to class as long as you read whatever was assigned.
He is a very easy teacher! You don't have to do the readings or even go to class! He wants everyone to improve so he can give them an A so on your first paper don't expect anything higher than a B+... take its fun and easy!!!
The material for this class was easy. it was all about gender race and differences but it was such a waste because you sit around in a semicircle and i didnt learn anything i already knew. Hes not that great of a teacher, hard grader

Magnuson is the best! his class is a joke! He is really chill and cracks me up! Take him for shiz!
Worst class I've taken at this school. I learned absolutely NOTHING. He doesn't know how to teach and he doesn't know what he's talking about half the time- he constantly talks in circles. His class seems easy, but he'll randomly grade really hard- you never know what your grade will be
Do not take him! He seems like he could be easy but he is a REALLY hard grader and he doesn't like giving A's. The midterm and the final are on random things and you don't learn anything in the class, so it makes it harder. I reccommend not taking him!
Wow this was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken! He is also a very understanding and good prof. Class is interesting and lecture is easy to follow.
sooo much fun and interesting. If you do the reading and can speak your mind, you'll do well. He was always one to say hi in the halls. He makes you call him Eric. He really cares about his students and what he teaches. I wish i could have taken more
The material itself..boring..but Eric is cool..he does his best to not make the experience too excrutiating.
Horrible! Can't teach...boring and a hard grader... learnt absolutely NOTHING!
He is super easy because there are no tests and you arent required to know the material. Just papers on your own ideas. He is very open and understands his material well. If you like to learn for the sake of learning, take one of his classes.
great teacher. class was always interesting. work load isn't too bad, it's managable. highly recommended
How can anyone not like Eric? He's hilarious. You'll spend large portions of your class time talking about absolutely nothing. If you want a laidback class with easy (and more or less optional) reading, this is the one to take.
Great teacher - knows the material. Nice guy, easy to get along with. He makes things interesting & fun. Very helpful if you show any interrest. I learned a lot.
real cool guy! dont do too much in class, but many good discussions. in the papers, you must write about something covered in class...even though not much is covered in class make sure what you write is from the text! shows good videos..
I honestly left this class every day feeling dumber. Yes, its easy but not worth your time. He's lazy, plays videos and makes the class lead discussion everyday, grades randomly and unfairly, takes attendance EVERY DAY, doesn't care about the work you put into the class, so you might as well put none. "Study guides" include everything in the book
He is a great teacher. A lil talkative, but awsome. He gives two papers, very short easy interesting topics, 1 3page and 1 5page, take him he is very easy, you dont read any of the books.
I would not recommend him to anyone that is taking him for non-major core. He gives low scores on the two papers. So don't expect a high grade for the second paper: either lower or the same. Even if you study for the final, he grades on your writing skills so you will most likely get a lower score than what you deserve. One of the worst experiences
i love eric! he is so entertaining and a really nice guy. he only gives 2 papers and a final, other than that no homework and attendance is not mandatory (we don't do much in class). he is a really cool teacher and if you do the reading they are actually interesting too
i love eric! he is really entertaining and a great guy. no homework, 2 papers and final, if you actually do the readings they are pretty interesting, he doesn't grade too hard on the papers, this class is fun, and pretty easy
He was absolutely amazing. i loved going to his class every day. he is so nice and funny, and he makes the material interesting. he is a teacher, and a friend. i am a sociology major and i hope to take him for upper division as well!! LOVED it!!
Amazing class, TAKE HIM! He goes off in tangents during discussion but he's a funny guy so it's nothing to complain about. He wants his students to actually learn and be able to apply his teachings to real life, not just memorize facts. Two papers, midterm, and final. I loved coming to his class it was so laid back but I still learned so much!
BORING. He states something soooo obvious in the first 15 minutes, after taking roll for 10 minutes and moving the desks around. Then...he repeats what he stated a thousand times without engaging students in what could be a really interesting conversation.
If you want to learn something, don't take this class. He believes in being your friend, not your professor.
class was a complete waste of time. he spent the first 15 minutes deciding which marker to write with, then spent another 10 mintues asking students irrevelent questions....tries too hard to be a "cool professor," but is really just a bore. takes attendance, tough grader on papers...don't take this guy
Very laid back teacher. Not a tough grader. Does not test about the readings, but when it comes to the papers the reading becomes mandatory. Nice guy, easy going class. Attendance is not mandatory.
he goes on tangents the whole class and SOMETIMES lets students talk and participate...the class gets kinda boring after a while but you can have a lap top in class so it's not so bad....2 papers and a final
complete waste of time. the discussions are based on his opinions, and he doesn't really listen to the student's opinions. grades easily on the papers, but i honestly have not learned anything. this class was a huge disappointment. he shows a lot of movies, but he doesn't connect them to the course. if you're here to learn, don't take this class.
So here is the deal for Eric. Chillest and easiest teacher there is. There is no mandatory hw which makes the reading optional. He doesnt really care about attendance. Class is boring but easy. He is a biased grader so if he likes you u will get a good grade if you dont try. Take him if you can. Participate and ull be good.
his papers are ridiculously hard. i wouldnt take him again. he doesnt teach in class but instead lectures the whole time when it is supposed to be a discussion course. class participation was 30% and he really doesnt give much time for participation. plays favorites. would stay far away. nice thing is he cancelled class like 3 times this sem
Such a boring class. His lectures are hard to follow and he says he is an easy grader but is definitely not. Attendance is optional. Likes to hear himself talk.
I loved this class! Eric was awesome and fun! We always talked about the most random and strange things in class.. I was constantly laughing! Easy A if you speak firm opinions in class and in your essays!
he was really funny but i feel like i didnt learn anything really and he got off topic a lot. attendance wasnt mandatory and he seems lenient but his grading isnt.
Very off topic and rambly guy but pretty easy class. Two papers and a final. Reading assigned every week but he never discusses the reading, it is used in the papers though. Nice, funny guy. Watch movies A LOT.
Said in the beginning of the class that the class was going to be mostly discussion, but lectured all the time. NEVER referred to the readings in class but we were expected to use them in our papers. I did nit feel that I learned anything new, me and my friend stayed on our phones and most people drew. Not too strict about attendance.
This was the absolute utmost boring class I have ever taken at LMU. Granted there was hardly any work besides a paper and presentation but it is not worth the hour and fifteen minutes of utter agony that you will go through. If you want a class where you can just attend and day dream then this is the class for you.
He doesn't grade because he feels that it is "unfair". Therefore, the class becomes an easy B. No work except for a paper and a project that he doesn't actually grade. He tends to contradict himself, and the class is not based on any fact. He continually states his opinions so you don't learn anything important.
Eric is great! He's a bit more progressive than the average LMU student, so many may not enjoy his more free and slightly off beat methods. Great discussions, always willing to stick around and chat about the readings or discussions some more, one of the best classes I have had at LMU. Interesting, intriguing, and fun to talk about
This class was the biggest waste of my time. Erik is nice and all but I am in the class to learn and I can't say I learnt a single thing in his class. He barely assigns work and the lectures were painfully boring -it was a struggle to stay awake during them. Avoid this class, you'd learn more from buying a book on sociology.
He mostly talks throughout the class. It was REALLY hard to stay awake just because his voice can get so repetitive and monotone. There are some interesting topics, and he cancels class a lot. It's a good class to take if you need to fulfill a requirement basically.
Lectures are kind of rambling, he never really gets to the point, just repeats himself. It's a very easy class though, mostly you just watch a lot of movies and listen to him talk. There are only a few very easy assignments that require you to do the readings.
Eric is super chill. He's a funny guy and I really liked his personality. Lectures were really long and boring, but the movies he showed were pretty interesting. Barely any assignments. Take this class if you're into doing no work!
He is the most frustrating professor I've taken. He lectures on his beliefs and his beliefs only. He does not teach you anything about sociology. He will grade you on how much he likes you. Class is fairly easy, the texts are interesting, but he will drive you crazy. Would not recommend. Find someone else.
Eric is nice, but avoid him. He is confusing as heck and not clear, especially when it came to the final and project. For the final, he wouldn't tell us what is on it until the week before final even though the class has been begging him for info for about a month. He doesn't "believe" in grades so on the papers, you get check plus, check, etc.
Eric is a great teacher! Not a necessarily easy A but every class is always entertaining and he loves when you participate. He likes to joke around so befriend him and all will be well!
Eric likes to talk, but he also likes to hear students talk. The topic is always relatable and he does well to keep everyone engaged. He tends to ramble but is overall very chill about workload and grades - understands we're humans not barely functioning student robots. He's always silly & funny in class. Mostly movies. Missing class is up to you.
I took his FYS- Creating a New World. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't taken their FYS yet, it's an easy class, he makes you do a few reading summaries which aren't that bad. He talks a lot that's true, but he's a nice guy overall. No tests which is great if you don't like taking them! Loves making corny jokes.
I had him for my FYS seminar Creating a New World and he was chill. Not a lot of work, no tests and he's chill if you miss class. He talks a lot and repeats himself which gets boring but overall he's a nice guy and cares about what he's talking about. He is bad at planning and didn't give good instructions so you have to ask a lot of questions.
He talks forever and repeats himself so much but the class was super easy. You can miss class and skip lectures and still be fine. He is a pretty fair grader and gives your the opportunity to ask questions if you aren't clear on the guidelines.
Eric is so nice and funny but DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He went on and on about how the course was discussion based and we would go over readings and homework. But, we never went over any of the readings. We just watched movies and he would talk and talk. Two papers and a project. Huge waste of time and money. Didn't learn anything new.
If you're looking for a simple fys take Personal Growth and Spiritual Development. We had four 3 page papers and a project for the semester. He gets long winded with everything, but he has good intentions. Overall a solid class, but it got a little boring at times.
I chose him because I his class fit my schedule best. All of his lectures were asynchronous which, means you have to rely on yourself to be motivated. Very clear about online work bc he emails before every "class" what is expected. Grades very easy on essays, but the final project is tough. Be prepared to interview 8-12 strangers! Also - no tests!
I would highly recommend professor Magnuson. I took his personal growth and spiritual development class which was an easy A. Discussion boards every week. Asynchronous class with maybe 4 synchronous lectures. I highly recommend this class!
This professor is great! I took his first year seminar. He LOVES talking and the lectures can get boring, but if you do the work you will get a good grade. He is a good teacher and very caring and funny.
Soc seminar was a great class at the time. Had a rough time in my personal life and was actually proud to end the course with a B. Since the capstone project was helpful for my career goals and I felt I did my best in his class I asked for a letter of rec for grad school. He didn't agree and stated it wouldn't be a strong letter citing the "B".
Professor Magnuson is a great! He is very kind and understanding. We only read from the books and watching documentaries about social issues. There are only 3 main assignments, 1 being the final, so very few things to be graded on. He loves to talk, and cares about his students and changing the world for the better!
prof Magnuson is truly amazing. He makes going to class worth it. He can be a tough grader sometimes but not to the point where you don't understand why. He is amazing and truly cares about the growth of the student.
hes is fine, but like the eric likes to talk a lot, sometimes it feels redundant and like there is no point, but overall I would take it again, but beware he says he hates grading but he is actually a hard grader... the size of ur writing matters!
Professor Magnuson is lecture-heavy and sometimes the lectures can become repetitive and boring. There were a total of 3 assignments which were all weighted very heavily, so DO YOUR BEST because he is also a tough grader. Make sure to ask for clarification because he is vague with his requirements. Not bad, but I wouldn't take this class again.
There are worse professors, but if you can DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. You will not learn anything, i have a total of three (3) bullet points in my notebook from the ENTIRE semester. He loves to hear himself talk so he will drag out a three-minute topic to take up the entire class time. He also doesn't allow technology in his class. Get out if you can.
i was expecting something completely different for this fys class. he spent each class talking about the syllabus/things he has talked about a million times already. you don't actually do any meditation/soundbaths in the class, instead we sat and listened to him talk for the entire time. he is a very nice guy but not fond of the class
His lectures are super boring. No meditation is done in class, you have to do it outside of class. Not a lot of discussion. He talks A LOT, especially about the syllabus. However, it was a super easy class; no tests, two reflection papers, and a semester-long research project. He's also an easy grader.
Professor Magnuson is a very sweet guy. Though he is a nice person, he isn't a great professor. 95% of the class was spent going over the syllabus, and there is no concrete grading format. Everything is extremely unclear and confusing. There is no real purpose of being in class since he just talks about whatever he pleases, but attendance is graded
If you're looking for an easy A for FFYS, take a different class. The classes mostly consisted of going over the syllabus over and over again and no material was actually covered. Professor Magnuson mostly just loves to hear himself talk and goes on rambling for most of the hour forty. He's a nice guy, its just hard to want to come to class.
This man is the #1 yapper. He's very interested in the topic and you can tell, but he talks about the same things; the syllabus and straightforward wellness topics. He's very relaxed and even admitted that he doesn't like giving grades. Class is easy and low-pressure but I found it hard to sit in class. Very easy to skip.
He didn't know what he was doing, so he gave a semester-long project that combined therapy and meditation sessions along with notes. His instructions are unclear, although the project is "personal based." He doesn't provide due dates in the syllabus, which you have to attend class to get; in class, he blabbers his mouth about pointless topics.
Terrible. Do not waste your time. Loves to hear himself talk, graded with check, check plus, check minus so you literally have no clue as to where you stand in the class. Hard to follow absolutely terrible. Would never take again.
Prof. Magnuson gets repetitive throughout all his lectures. To be honest, you don't really learn much in his class as he only rambles and never gets straight to the point. Movies are alright though. He says participation matters but it doesn't count towards anything or the final grade. Do not take him, he will bore you.
He yaps for the full 100 min and you will never ever get out early. The class is an easy A, it has no test just 2 papers, written final, and a semester long research project which is pretty easy. He goes over the syllabus every single class literally every single class, the repetition is insane. There's a little participation needed here and there.
this man will not stop talking. he talks and talks nonstop. it's always off-topic too. he went on about the color of his text in the syllabus for 30 minutes, then started talking about trees for the next 20. his assignments are wack and he gives little to no instruction about how to complete it. it's hard to sit through this class in the morning.
I genuinely do not understand what he is talking about most of the time. He often interrupts students while talking because he has so many things to repeat and say. Class time is mostly him talking and a movie that is boring. His grading makes no sense as it is a check plus/minus, so I'm unclear what grade I have at the moment. Ridiculous.
Absolutely a huge YAPPER, 100 mins course he yaps for 95 mins and 5 mins of mandatory attendance. Movies are also so boring, super hard to sit in his class. He does not give feedback and grade to you until the VERY END OF THE SEMESTER. If you don't want to have anxiety regarding your grade then PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIM. Absolutely the worst professor
