Eric is a great guy and professor-extremely intelligent. Course has 2 pretty hard exams, a non-cumulative final, 10 in-class quizzes (lowest 1 dropped) and about 5 take-home readings/problem sets (lowest 1 dropped). SUPER helpful in office hours & posts all of his lecture PPTs online. Textbook is not used. Really wants you to do well-but hard prof.
This guy is awesome. He really cares about giving you an education that applies to the real world. His lectures are as enjoyable as accounting lets them be, and hes hilarious. Super clear on what you'll be tested on. Work is very manageable if you put in a decent effort. Definitely a good choice
Really cool guy, but very hard class and EXTREMELY boring lectures which I am sure isn't entirely his fault. Weekly quizzes are challenging, but manageable. Weekly homework assignments were fine until about halfway through the semester where the homework did not relate to the notes at all. So pretty much have to google a lot.
great accounting teacher - makes you put all the concepts together which is challenging at times, but it really forces to know what you're doing. homework and slides very helpful for studying - you just have to know what you're doing every week. if you put in the work, this class is extremely manageable. very caring and understanding.
Great professor for such a hard subject. Makes sure that you have all the tools to succeed. Managerial Accounting as a subject requires learning a lot of the material outside of class as is, and he does a good job of teaching as much of it as he can. While the lectures can get a little boring at some points, its because of the material and not him.
He is a cool guy but a bad professor. He barely teaches the content in class and then expects you to complete difficult homework assignments with only one very basic example shown in class, and then he claims that the content is "so easy". You basically have to teach it to yourself. Wish I could have a better experience in this class.
Dr. Marinich is a great professor! Knowledgeable and well-prepared. Presents the material really well in lectures. Weekly hw and in-class quiz, so show up to class and pay attention. The exams are pretty difficult, so make sure you study well and use office hours if you need them!!
Worst professor Ive had at Miami.
Iconic quote: "This is section B as in Booling"
Dr. Marinich tries to come off as the young, "chill" professor, but he was the worst professor that I have had at Miami. His lectures are fine, but do not align with the exams, quizzes, or homework. I had to teach myself everything and the class average on all three exams was a high D. A horrible experience, a low grade, and not much takeaway.
If you go to class, do the work and study you will do well. Dr. Eric makes the class easy to follow and stay attentive.
The class isn't easy, but Professor Marinich really knows how to treat his students like people.
Tough class but if you put in the work you'll be fine. He makes accounting as bearable as it can be.
Eric is amazing. He genuinely cares about his students. He's always accessible in office hours and 24/7 via email. Go to his office hours early in the game. Accounting is all about muscle memory and doing the same problems over again. If you do 30 minutes of accounting every day you should be good to go
If you dont like him and are unhappy with your grade you arent putting the work in. His exams are just like the top hats and the warmups. If you arent doing well then go to office hours. Theres zero excuse to not be successful in this class especially if you put the work in. You should understand by now that exams dont magically poof into As
If you aren't an ACC major this is definitely a hard class. There are weekly quizzes and 2 exams (plus the final). He is a great guy and a respected teacher. However, those tests are rough. Our class average on the 2nd exam was an F. Just be aware that you will need to stay on-top of the material and study.
Absolutely incredible professor. He is hilarious and actually makes accounting somewhat enjoyable. He comes to class prepared and knows his stuff. I think it would enjoy school if every professor was like Dr. Marinich.
Okay, here's the truth. The class is tough because the exams are long and wordy. BUT Prof. Marinich is the best professor I've had at Miami. He's funny. He comes to class prepared. He makes accounting doable. If you want to succeed, I would print the slide decks and write on them during lectures. I would study a week in advance and make flashcards.
This class was the hardest class I've taken, but Marinich was still a good professor. The material is difficult, but he does his best to explain it through lectures, weekly quizzes, and homeworks. The exams are so difficult, going to his office hours for clarification is important if you want to do well.
I'm pretty sure you don't have another option for ACC 222, but it doesn't really matter because Marinich's a pretty good prof. He values input from the students and actually implements it- if you have any questions, he's willing to help. Every class has Top Hat questions so attendance matters, HW and quiz every week, so lots of grades.
Prof. Marinich does his best to make a hard class as easy as possible. Very open to student feedback and genuinely wants to help you succeed. That being said, the exams are very tough and worth a lot of your grade. Study hard, and ask questions where you are confused. Preparing for the weekly quizzes can help you get a leg up in the class.
Professor Marinich was great, this is a tough class but he gives you a ton of resources to help you. Do not try to memorize or exams will be extremely challenging!!! His exams are tough but they really test if you understand the concepts and haven't just memorized how to do a handful of problems.
Professor Marinich is not a bad teacher or a horrible person, but he just gets a bit hostile at times. He wouldn't ever target students, but he would often get triggered by something and lose some motivation for teaching an effective class. He's the only one at Miami that teaches ACC 222 so you'll have him, just be ready to teach yourself a bit.
Eric is a great professor, he adds flair to accounting and makes it slightly doable. His class is challenging but if you teach yourself and study hard you will be alright. During corona, he was not happy and was a tad hostile in the messages he sent us but still was able to deliver the needed material. Would take again
He really is one of the best at Miami. Usually large lecture classes are a snooze... he keeps it entertaining. He provides a lot of opportunities for points. Quizzes weekly and points just for showing up. Extra credit opportunities to make up your attendance points if you miss. Straight forward expectations for tests although they aren't easy.
Did a good job on the online format. Although the content is boring, he's super funny and tries to make the lectures entertaining. For the class format, you do one lecture with homework and a quiz per week. You totally need to study for the exams and quizzes but he gives you a lot of materials to do so.
Funniest man on the planet. His lectures are long but he teaches the material so well. Do the work and you will get an A.
Professor know the material very well and tries to make the class not boring. He really cares about his student and give very good feedback on each of question asked. Just pay attention to his lecture and do the practice problems and you should do just fine.
Dr. Marinich is one of the best lecturers and overall professors I've had at Miami. His candid and caring attitude sets him apart from all other professors; he truly wants his students to succeed. With no face-to-face lectures this fall, he went all out to post dozens of video lectures to help students understand the material. Funny guy too!
This is certainly a tough course -- quiz and test questions are wordy, and you need to understand what you are doing. Memorization will not do justice. However, Marinich is one of the best professors I've ever had. He knows what he is doing, and gives thorough, detailed explanations. Also always available when needed. Very respectable professor.
He's the only professor for 222, but he's great. The lectures are designed around what students tend to struggle with, and if you pay attention during lecture you will do well. All assessments are open note, so make sure you take good notes.
The professor was super kind, especially with online. I struggled with the material and he was very helpful. With online work, my internet was also very bad and he was very understanding. The textbook is a must. Do all of the work available and you will pass the class with a very good understanding of the material. Quizes and exams are difficult.
Funny guy. His lectures are very helpful and he has a lot of helpful resources for you to understand the content even when it is asynchronous. Quizzes and exams can get difficult though, and homework is not worth that much, but review questions are all old quiz and exam questions.
Probably top 5 best professors @ Miami. He is a funny guy and enjoys laughing with students and actually cares for their well-being. Additionally, very helpful in office hours and you will get to know him.
He is really the best professor that I have ever met in Miami, Acc 222 is not an interesting and easy course, however, he is able to make everything easier!!! Also, he has lots of materials that will help you understand each of the chapters if you watch the lecture video and just simply do what he asks you to do, A is easy to get!
Most caring professor I've had at Miami. Even with an asynchronous class, getting help from him was no problem. It's just a weekly homework and quiz, and the questions are so similar to the old exam and quiz questions he provides on Canvas. You do have to study the content a lot yourself though, but it's not bad.
I LOVE DR. M! This class was asynchronous online for me, but his lecture videos were so entertaining. He explains the material so well, gives great practice and examples, and makes it funny. You can tell he really knows and cares about his students because he would always anticipate questions we would have, even though the lectures were recorded.
Took his class online last semester. He was always rude and hesitant to help if you needed it. I asked for an extension due to having to work in school and the test site being down for a short window. He responded that "not one single student out of 700 had the issue" so I had to figure it out. Refused to curve too, if you asked he'd delete emails.
GOAT talk.
Hard course but provides all tools to be successful. Extremely smart and well planned out lectures, eric knows what hes talking about. If you show up and do the work its not too bad but there is a lot to learn. One of my favorite professors ive had at miami.
I had Professor Marinich for ACC222 over the Winter Term, and although this class was held fully online asynchronous, Dr. Marinich sent out emails every morning around 7am to alert us of the day's assignments. Since this was a sprint course it was a lot of work, but the recorded lectures were captivating. I would definitely take Marinich again.
Professor Marinich is one of the best professors I have had at Miami. He uses humor to lessen stress during lectures and is understanding of students. He has allowed us to use a sheet of notes for quizzes and the first exam. If you put in the effort to do well on the quizzes, the exams can still be tough but it is very manageable. Highly recommend!
I absolutely despise accounting, but Prof Marinich is awesome. He is hilarious and treats his students with respect. Weekly quizzes and tough exams, but if you take accounting, make sure you take it with him. He is just overall a really cool guy.
Dr. Marinich made this class genuinely fun despite the fact that I REALLY don't like accounting. This will be a hard class, so don't expect you'll do well just because you did well in ACC 221.
Pretty solid professor. I'm an accounting major so I think this class is pretty easy. I only study 3 things: lecture slides, review slides, and old exams. That will get you pretty far. His quizzes can be a bit tricky, but we've had 2 group quizzes which help your grade.
Dr. Marinich is a great professor and I loved his class (and thought it was pretty self-explanatory), but I know many people struggle with the topic. He does not give graded homework, but I recommend doing it to learn the material. Makes lectures extremely interesting and will help you tremendously during office hours. Exams are most of your grade.
Rushes through material. Class focuses more on trying to trick you with wording of questions rather than seeing if you know the material
I usually hate lectures but Professor Marinich made them interesting and held my attention. The homework didn't work during my semester, which was annoying. Quizzes and Exams were straight forward and based on the lectures. I've never done well in math so the fact that I did in this class is a huge green flag. (I got a D- in Bus calc)
Professor Marinich is awesome! I was scared to take ACC222 since I did poorly in ACC221 but Marinich taught the material in a way that I could actually understand. His slides are concise and to the point. This made it easy to study for exams and quizzes. The lectures don't always go the full 80 minutes which is nice. Overall, great class/professor
Professor Marinich is one of the best teachers I have had in my life. He truly cares about all of his students and wants to help you. His lectures are engaging and interactive, especially for such a large class size. Grading is always quick and consistent and quizzes and exam practices are very similar to the actual quizzes and exams.
Attendance was mandatory as he used tophat one day and a quiz next day. 12 weekly quizzes, three lowest are dropped. Two very hard exams (average was around a 70), lowest is dropped. No HW, and he is very helpful and wants you to do well!
His exams and homework questions are always harder than he says. His direction in problem during my office hours was solving too fast or not giving enough helpful information for mr to understand. Same goes for his lectures in all honesty. Project 2 had minimal direction and was not enjoyable or relevant.
This class will be difficult, but Dr. Marinich wants you to succeed. He is very accessible for questions and help outside of class and you need to utilize this. The exams are hard, and the quizzes can go either way, but make sure you put in the effort, or you won't succeed. He is really funny, and the lectures were surprisingly enjoyable.
Dr. Marinich is a very smart and likable professor. He doesn't overwhelm you with work. His tests and exams were challenging but the other points from Tophat and projects helped. He does go through his lectures pretty fast and this can be difficult to keep up with.
This class is way too difficult. He adds so much extra stuff in each problem that makes it so much more challenging then it needs to be. Guy is funny, but I would not necessarily call him a good professor. He speeds through lectures and makes the quizzes and exams difficult.
Accounting is not my thing at all so I struggled even with studying a lot but Dr Marinich made the classes pretty engaging. Exams and quizzes are pretty tough you need to be prepared to study a lot outside of class. I feel like this class could've gone a lot worse for me if I had a bad professor though.
Professor Marinich is great! He's laid back, but still cares. It's too bad he has to teach sections of 200 students. The only reason he isn't receiving a 5/5 is because his quizzes/exams are pretty confusing on purpose. A lot of the class is just learning semantics and how to avoid being tricked.
Downt to earth guy who's passionate about the course. All the information is relevant work and has purpose. Quiz every week and exam every 3 weeks-ish. Quizes and exams are no walk in the park. Attendance is mandatory. Bonus: he's funny in class. Class doesn't end early. Wants students to succeed and helps you with questions. Overall great prof.
The quizzes/exams are really hard; I took thorough notes, as quizzes/exams were open note, but still did bad on most of the quizzes. Prof. Marinich is a great professor though, and he is very knowledgeable about the material
This is one of the most challenging classes I've taken at Miami. Every week you have a quiz... don't slack on those. they're so important in helping you get a good grade. Make sure to study hard for the exam. Overall just grind this class until the semester is over
Marinich is a homie and I respect him as a professor. For Acc 222, show up to class and you'll pass. Definitely have to grind for the exams but every class period there's opportunities to get easy points to boost your grade. Would take him again 100%.
ACC222 is definitely one of the harder classes in Farmer. I found Marinich to be long winded, and he reads off of his lecture slides. Probably could've done the same with just his slides. Quizzes and exams aren't easy. Attendance is a must (part of your grade). Good practice resources given, I haven't touched the textbook he had us buy, though.
First day of the week, there is TopHat which is just free 10 points if you show up to class. On the second day are quizzes on what material was covered on the first day. The quizzes kinda vary in difficulty but most were pretty tough. Definitely recommend taking Eric. Super cool guy and wants to see u succeed but you have to work for it.
Dr. Marinich is absolutley hilarious in class and lectures excellently and clearly on the topics. Amazing guy overall and the content is not too difficult.
Take Marinich if you can. He cares a lot about the subject, but also knows not everyone is an accounting major and teaches everything in a way that isn't too technical. He lets you use note sheets on quizzes and exams and he does a great job of providing lots of resources to study with. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK, exams are all from in-class lectures
I really liked him personally, but the structure of the class needs to be improved. Some teachers think that making homework optional leads to improved results. Unpopular opinion, but it's the opposite. Students tend not to do optional things. He needs to expect more from his students.
Great personality which makes lectures easy to get through but he will not hold your hand you have to show up and do the practice problems and review to do well even though there is no graded homework
One of the most caring professors I have ever had. Eric went out of his way numerous times to ensure his student's success. Personally, a lot of work outside of this class was required but I do not believe that to be the common consensus
Marinich is simply OK. ACC 222 is just a GRIND from start to finish with material being taught up to finals. I would say take him, but just get ready to take exams and quizzes that are extremely long and are meant to trick you. My biggest suggestion is to take notes on the powerpoint before class because he will rush through it during class.
Beware of these reviews, a lot of the students are lazy and do NOT put in the adequate amount of work required to succeed in this class. Marinich is great, he has made this class extremely easy. One class is a lecture and the second class period is the quiz, if you do ALL of the practice problems and ask him questions you will do well in ACC 222.
Dude innovates and puts in the time so his students can succeed. What a chad!
No grades in class so if you don't do good on exams and quizzes, your grade will likely plummet. Funny professor but expects you to know how to do everything in 2 days and then have a quiz every week.
He is the GOAT. You will learn a lot. Cares a lot for his students DO NOT CHEAT IN HIS CLASS. HE GOT STUDENTS EXPELLED
Go to class even though its lectured. The exams are very hard. Its hard to know what to study because theres just so many study guides that it could be any variation of a problem. So much material it gets mixed up and just isn't very clear. Theres like 50 different things a single question could be asking for on one single topic. He's a great guy.
Marinich is a good lecturer and a funny guy but his exams are very difficult. You have to attend lectures to do well in the exams.
Marinich is fine. He does truly care about his students. However, he will make claims in class that he will not try to trick you on the exam. Do not believe that at all. He totally tries to trick you so I'd really pay attention to what he says. He's nice enough and he's pretty lax. But watch out for the exams.
Amazing professor, really cares about students. Knows his class is hard but wants to help. All studying material is old exams, so it is easy to be prepared successfully. Go to his office hours and he will love to help!!! Not much work outside of class. It is a hard class but Dr. Marinich makes it easy to want to out in the work.
Great professor who knows his class is difficult, but wants students to succeed. Do the homework and quizzes, prepare for exams, and you will be fine!
Is a great teacher, not a lot of outside work. Focus on the exam content and you will do good. He wants to see his students succeed.
Professor Marinich is really good. He is super caring and nice to his students and really takes the time. This class is very hard, so I recommend you attend every lecture. There is no homework but there are attendance quizzes that he has in class that he will give you the answers to. If you don't attend class, it will really affect your grade.
Dr. Marinich is very passionate and caring towards his students, and he is also very engaging during lectures. He offers lots of opportunities to interact with the material, and the course page on canvas is very well organized. While exams are challenging, there are lots of resources to prepare for them and he is always available to talk to.
Very tough class, be prepared to spend hours of studying per exam and still not do well. His lectures get very boring too.
LOVED his class! ACC is kinda boring, but he made sure we were well prepared on exams and always gave us freebie questions. Weekly online quizzes are sometimes annoying, but help you stay on track and prepare you for the exam. The people saying he's hard aren't paying attention or studying! Very clear what's on exam and lots of prep materials!!
Best professor I've had so far at Miami hands down. Engaging lectures, quizzes and attendance are free points (this could change), but prepare to spend a ton of hours preparing for exams. He sparked an interest in the subject for me, I can't promise he'll do the same for you but I can say he is the best professor to make this subject tolerable.
