Professor Marrs is THE BEST Accounting professor! He cares about actually helping students understand the content of his class. It's broken up into 4 quarters: ending with a quiz, midterm, quiz, midterm and final. Always available to help during office hours. His curves are set up only to help you. Definitely take his class for accounting!!
Eric Marrs is a GEM, he has very open and realistic expectations and really tries to get to know his students. He's very good at not making concepts harder than they need to be.
Professor Marrs is amazing! He always cracks jokes and wants you to succeed. This class could be difficult for non business majors, but if you put the effort into the class you will be fine.
HE'S AMAZING!!! best professor I have ever had.
Professor Marrs goes above and beyond to ensure every student's success. Approachable and welcoming. Writes his own notes, which cut through the slack and explain the material in simpler terms. Connects accounting to real world. Understands students' perspective. Definitely would take him again!
Prof. Marrs was a transformational professor. He met me where I was and walked me to where I needed to be for the course. He made the content real and inspired me to seriously consider accounting in my post-graduate life. He goes the extra mile (if you do) to be available and fill in any understanding gaps. I am grateful to have taken his courses.
Great guy, I'm only in the first part of the semester still but he's funny, understanding, he gives you a notes packet that you fill out together in class. There is a decent amount of homework, but none of it is busy work, it all helps to further understand what he's teaching in the most perfect way. He makes me want to take more accounting classes
Professor Marrs always tries to make his lecture interesting by putting in jokes or talking about real cases. He is very kind and will help you when you have questions. Great communication too. I am a Sherlock Holmes fan and when I found out he was too I just felt like I can relate to him on a whole new level.
Eric is the goat, I never try in other classes, but would feel too bad to disrespect Eric like that. I know mad accounting stuff rn.
No need to read my remarks: they're the same as everyone else's. Best professor at SMU, and I have had plenty of great ones. True gem. Take him if you want to love Accounting (I hated it until I took his class)
The only reason attendance wasn't mandatory is bc I took it during Covid. He is the BEST professor, take him for accounting if you can! He genuinely wants to help, go to office hours after each test and he'll walk you through each problem in detail that you got wrong! After going over the test in OH he even gave me back some points!!
Oh man! What a class, best professor I've had in Cox. While not a freebie class, if you put in the work you will do fine. Would highly recommend this professor to any business major, not just accounting majors. He is super helpful when you don't understand what is going on and his TA's are the absolute best for test prep.
Great prof, super personable and his lectures do a great job of explaining the difficult concepts.
Prof Marrs is awesome! Gave me a solid foundation in Accounting. You're going to be happy you took a good 2301 prof when you get into intermediate. Highly recommend everybody to take him if given the chance.
Eric Marrs is the homie. Accounting is not a walk in the park, but let's say hypothetically it was a walk in the park(not an easy one, think a park with a lot of rocks) he would make it a fun walk. Great teacher, has a good vocabulary, and fun to see. I would take Marrs if u get the shot.
Take his class he is the goat.
Wonderful Professor! Just call him Eric! He is the best. Periodt. His notes are so amazing and he likes to challenge you in a good way. Just read the notes and study.
Best professor at SMU. Must take for accounting
Professor Marrs is hands down the best accounting professor. he only teaches you whats relevant, and everything in the tests and quizzes comes directly from the notes packets he creates for you. weekly homework, but its easy and gives hints. super fun, cool dude. you have to put in the work, but your grade will reflect that. all free response tests
Professor Marrs is hands down the best professor for Accounting. He doesn't bother with technicalities found in the text book and wants to teach what's really needed. You get 1 homework a week that are pretty short. Although one of the exams was challenging, he was always free to give feedback and cares for his students. Definitely take him.
great professor, not an easy class but he is the best at teaching
Professor Marrs is an amazing professor. Wants his students to really understand accounting without having to memorize many terms and random information. Classes are mainly lecturing style, but gives real-world examples to understand concepts better. He gives you his past exams and quizzes to practice with but his new ones are very challenging.
One of the best professors I have ever had! Material is not easy but Prof makes the class interesting and explains concept really well. Prof is very accessible outside of class and is great at explaining challenging concepts. Tests are difficult-mainly application based but at the end of the day, you will learn alot. 11/10 would recommend!

The best accounting teacher you could ask for. His lectures are thorough and cover everything you'll need to know. He makes it really easy to take good notes since he gives you the notes before the lectures. If you ask a question, he will answer it perfectly and won't stop until you understand the concept. Take this class!
If you have any chance to take Eric, take it. He is far and away the best professor at SMU and somehow made accounting my favorite class by far this year. He clearly enjoys teaching, and always wants to help students in any way he can. His class is lecture heavy, but full of realworld examples. Holds review sessions and gives practice tests/quizzes
What an amazing guy. Loves to see his students succeed. Accounting is no walk in the park but he makes it somewhat interesting since he was originally a finance guy. I wish I was more invested in his class, which is why I ended with a B-. Must take
Marrs is the goat. super chill guy and made accounting not too bad. Still not an easy class but he is great at explaining and tries to make sure you actually understand the subject
He's my favorite professor!
Marrs is a must take Professor. He is amazing at teaching and explaining the concepts. He is extremely fair and cares about his students and the material he is teaching. He will also leave you with knowledge of the accounting and finance world that will stick with you in future classes.
Eric was my favorite professor that Ive had at SMU so far. Words cant even describe how grateful I am to have him as a teacher. Trust me take this professor if you have a chance. You will not regret it!!!!
The best teacher I have ever had at SMU! The class isn't easy and you definitely have to work hard, but Eric is so motivational and is so accessible outside of class and he really wants everyone to succeed. I highly recommend you take him for financial accounting, you will leave the class with so much knowledge and be well prepared for managerial.
I love Marrs has a professor. Accounting is a difficult topic and he is so motivational and seriously wants his students to succeed. I wouldn't recommend any other prof over him for accounting. The majority of the grade is exams but after the first midterm there is still 70% of your grade to make up so there's so much room for improvement.
good luck
I cant speak enough praises for Marrs. He's a captivating lecturer, knows how to break down the material, and is always ready to help. Make no mistake, this is a difficult course and you have to put in the work, but Marrs will give you the best grasp of the material. Hands down the best Prof. for the Intro courses and its a crime he's only Adjunct.
Eric marrs is the goat for no cap best teacher at smu. not the most interesting subject in the world but he cares about his teaching and just cool guy overall
The in class lectures are sometimes dense, but Marrs always goes over exactly what you need to be successful. professor Marrs was always available outside of class and eager to help, and he posts old quizzes/exams that were very helpful in preparing for exams and quizzes. Best class i have taken at SMU so far and he is hot.
Best professor I've ever had at SMU. He really cares that you get the material and do well in the class. Acct is a hard subject, but Eric made the class very easy to learn in. TA's were also super helpful for test prep and reviewing exams. Great class and would definitely take him again if I had the opportunity to!
Professor Eric is the best one in COX, and he teaches accounting very patiently and detailedly. I gained a huge personal growth after taking his class. I will definitely fall in love with him.
Eric is phenomenal at teaching the dense subject matter, with passion and detailed explanations behind every concept in his lectures. I regrettably did not put my best effort in learning the material as I wanted to. With that, I would suggest people to do the practice problems when studying and to make every effort to attend his lectures.
Marrs is funny and knowledgeable. Easily one of my favorite professors for my first year in college. I found ACCT 2301 to be easy, but I know that isn't the case for everyone. HW is a free grade if you do it, and classes are option (I would still go). 2 big quizzes and 2 big tests and a final. Usually, extra credit questions on each. Best 2301
Ima keep it a hundo p. Eric is hands down the GOAT. The guy sets the standard for teaching in Cox. He gives you the tools to be successful at the next level, and is a very genuine guy. If you can take him, do it. He is a unique professor that you will enjoy, and greatly benefit from. 350 letters is not enough for this beast-must take class at SMU
Professor Marrs is a great guy and an even better professor. He provides a great introduction to the world of accounting and does an amazing job of explaining all topics covered in the course. Homework is easy and usually doesn't take too long. Provides old quizzes/tests that are super useful in prep for the 4 tests/exams that are pretty easy.
I loved taking this class with Eric! At first I was super nervous to take Intro to Financial Accounting but Eric was available during office hours and could explain concepts I didn't understand in the lecture. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. If you show you care, he will care and you will succeed.
He has one of the highest difficultly ratings. Do not take
Favorite Professor. You have to work hard, but he gives you every opportunity to succeed.
This man is so hard to understand. He talks and speaks words but they mean NOTHING. My problem is he doesnt EXPLAIN how to do the problems, he just does them. So its really really hard to learn from that. Also, he pre-types notes so you dont really take notes which makes it hard to learn during class. People say he is the easiest but no.
Definitely not an easy A class. I had to work very hard and it's one of the classes I've had to study for the most. Yet, do not let that discourage you from taking Marrs because he cares that you learn and that you do well! If you go to office hours for help, do the HW, and study at least a week in advance of exams, you'll do great!
Overall, Eric Marrs does a really good job at explaining and walking you through any questions. Provides lots of material for practice and very helpful if you go to office hours. He is easily accessible and works with you to get a good grade.
I loved taking Marrs for Financial Accounting. I would 100% recommend taking him. He is a great teacher, makes class fun, class is entertaining, and you learn a lot. His class is very possible to do well in but challenges you. He is actually one of the reasons I switched to a finance major. Quizzes start easier and progress in difficulty.
I love this Professor. Accounting is a difficult class in general but Marrs wants you to learn and do well. He basically makes his grading scale to where nobody fail. There are only 2 tests (including final) and 3 quizzes but he gives bonus points on everything and partial credit on so much. Attendance is not required but go to class.
Professor Marrs is by far the best professor I've had at SMU. He's extremely smart, funny, engaging, and overall an amazing teacher. This class takes effort, but if you understand the material you'll easily pull an A. By far the best teacher to get for accounting.
The guy was nice, but this class was hard. If accounting does not come easy to you, I would not recommend. His lectures were often boring and it was easy to loose focus. Try to find another professor!
Best teacher of a material that I've ever had. Class is curved. His quizzes can trip you up, but all you need to do is put in extra time on your own to be ready. He is one of the nicest teachers I've ever had, and he gives you EVERY opportunity to succeed. You never lack practice material/notes in this class. If you don't get an A, that's on you.
Marrs is genuinely the best professor. He breaks down the material very well and is accessible outside of class. For his assessments, attend the TA reviews and do ALL of the previous assessments (posted on Canvas). He is super fun to talk to, understanding and helps you outside of class however he can.
His class was very hard, his lectures were interesting but surface level and his tests/quizzes are very in depth and you can never study enough. He is nice and understanding and curves his whole class, but I studied for hours, would go in confident and bomb because he throws some tuff, new things on tests. You can never know what to expect
I'd give him a 10/10 on personality and a 1/10 on teaching. Accounting is simply hard to learn, but he explains it like it's easy and assumes all students are fast learning. The tests are obscure and impossible since he experiments with new questions on each test. I only did good in the class because of self-teaching and prior financial knowledge.
Marrs is a great guy who really cares about his students. He breaks down everything into a lot of detail which helps to make the content easy to understand. A lot of people will say this is a hard class, but I actually found it to be really easy with Marrs.
Prof. Marrs is okay. He does a good job at breaking the material down but then tests students at a very high level. His lectures are him reading/working through pre-written notes. His advised way of studying is to do previous tests he posts; however, his previous exams are much easier. Unfair grading situation between sections and goes on rants.
Prof. Marrs' lectures are casual and aren't clear at first, but he's most helpful in his office hours, there he helps greatly. Homework is easy, hard part is studying practice exams to prep for midterms and the final. Curves the grades pretty well. Does multiple test reviews ahead of time. Go to him for help and study well and you should do good.
He is not great at explaining things, he reminds me of a mix of both the good mythical morning guys. Exam reviews were cake, but the final exam was hard.
This class was impossible for me. I think taking his MWF class may be more beneficial than his TTH. The lectures were hard to sit through during TTH + more people were able to clep out of the final in his MWF because he assigns the TTH class an extra midterm vs just an extra quiz for MWF.
Shouldn't be hard for those good with numbers and have a basic knowledge of accounting - but if you're like me, then it's gonna be tough. It's fast-paced, heavy lectures plus exams that are nothing like the practice. Make sure to find study buddies. Marrs is a majestic professor but not enough for me to ignore how stressful this class was!
The class is going to be hard regardless of who you take it with though, so take him. Take the MWF over the TH bc the grading scale is much better. I can not stress that enough. Exams were not similar to the practice tests and final was brutal. He understands the class is hard so the curve is good. Went from C- to B- as my final grade bc of curve.
Accounting is difficult, but if you have to take this class, choose Marrs! He posts past quizzes and tests, but don't just only use those to study. He and his TA hold review sessions before each quiz and test (a midterm and a final) -- go! His curving scale's great. I technically got a B- but ended with a B+. Super nice and chill guy.
I literally loved this class. Marrs is a great teacher that takes the times to really explain the "why" behind everything. He lets you see past quizzes and exams but don't just go over them- make sure you genuinely understand every topic. Also there is an option to test out of the final which is hard but doable if you really put in the work.
Professor Marrs is a fantastic teacher. He is an easy grader, goes through the units in detail and will answer any questions. His lectures do sometimes feel long and boring but they are to help students learn about accounting. Try to make sure you go to the quizzes and tests, he gives a lot of extra credit. Do the HW and go to class, its an easy A
GOAT. That's the review.
He is a great professor. I am not a numbers person so this class was hard for me but if you are going to take accounting for your first time take it with him.
Eric is a great guy and great professor who truly cares about his students. His notes are hard to follow and he's kinda all over the place. But go to office hours and put in the work and you should be okay. You're either an accounting person or you aren't.
This class is so hard. The tests are so much harder than the reviews he posts. Honestly not sure why everyone says he's so great
His previous exams are very representative of what is seen on his exams. I would even say some of his exam questions this semester were easier than what was on his practice tests. It's definitely not a class that comes easy to everyone, but his curve makes a good grade very attainable. Plus the Manny rule is a great way to get out of the final.
his class has become alot harder from the past. his exams are different from his past exams. i don't understand how to study for his exams; except, ask him for help but he gets upset when students do so
The undisputed GOAT of accounting. Only two tests the entire semester. Makes accounting interesting. Takes a lot of time with topics to help people understand better. Gives partial credit on questions and offers extra credit opportunities on everything including attendance. Overall very solid professor.
He makes it seem like the work will be easy even when we are constantly asking questions. The tests are not anything like he teaches as if he is trying to prevent students from doing well and he is just outright rude to some groups of us students. He acts nice until he doesn't then has this weird mood swing if you ask too many questions.
Fav teacher at SMU. Accounting is hard no matter what. You need to study throughout the semester to get ready for the tests. If you do weekly homework, go to office hours, and put in the work you will be fine. He gives two full bonus points to your grade if you have perfect attendance too. Grades very generously on tests too. Super great teacher!
Tests are hard but he gives a lot of partial credit and extra credit questions, lectures can be confusing but he posts them online and rewatching them can help, he gives practice exams that are helpful but be prepared to see content on the exam that was not heavily covered in class, get over 100 and you can skip the final
Professor Marrs is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. The class is challenging but he gives you all his past midterms to study off of. If you dedicate the time to study for his class you will be rewarded. Also his TA's offer review sessions and provide help via email.
Marrs taught in a super straightforward manner. His tests are hard, but you will eventually get the hang of them. There's 3, and honestly they're fair game!! Lots of extra bonuses from the project and attendance!!
Are you ready to have sleepless nights just to get a 70 on your exam? If you are, then be sure to take this class. Marrs purposefully makes his exams so much harder than they are supposed to be. His previous exams you really do not know what he is going to ask during the exams and that is why you study till the smallest detail.
Marrs is such a great prof! He cares about all his students and is super easy going! He wants them all to succeed! If you put the effort in and attend office hours, it will pay off! I think the one hard thing is you won't know the curve and what you have until the very end, so sometimes you can feel in the dark. However, He is great!
Try to avoid the T TH classes because the lectures are unbearable lowkey, but I thought the class was super straightforward. Hes also a great guy!
On one hand Marrs is a nice, awesome guy. On the other hand his teaching style is relatively confusing. The class is very test heavy and you will have to teach yourself most of the material, because his lectures go in circles and are overcomplicated. There's two tests, the final, a project. He gives extra credit and a curve b/c test grades are low.
This class is definitely challenging, however Marrs structures his class so that success is attainable. His lectures are focused around conceptualization while the exams are very technical - you must utilize his pratice exams to succeed. There is tons of extra credit and he is very helpful outside of class. Would highly reccomend taking
goat. best professor I have had at SMU. wish he taught managerial as well
Your grade depends entirely on how your classmates do b/c he uses the "Barry Zito" curve. If ur in a class with people who are great at accounting and ur not, your grade will suffer. This semester he gave us 8 bonus points on a project. Turns out he just wanted to make the grade cutoff higher. Wouldn't recommend at all
all he does in class is underline and read allowed a pre-printed transcript which he claims are notes.goes off on random conceptual rants but neglects to teach technical skills.tests are hard w/ trick questions.I attened every class/review, did HW, and studied weeks in advance to do awful on tests and get a B with the Barry-zito curve. dont take.
Marrs is the best ACCT2301 professor. He presents the content clearly and gives plenty of resources for the students. There are weekly homeworks, 2 midterms, and 1 project. He is available to help along with his TAs. He wants students to succeed and appreciates when they put in the work. A very worthwhile class, I highly recommend.
Financial isn't the easiest class but Marrs makes it so much more enjoyable. Seeing all the negative reviews surprised me, Marrs has been one of my favorite professors at SMU. Apparently, this semester was harder than others but that doesn't matter considering the class operates on a curve anyway. I would highly recommend Marrs to anyone.
Lectures are just him reading his script. Provides few examples in class & expects students to solve diverse problems on exams from that. Learned more from TAs and their study guides than in lecture. Don't rely on curve it gets minimized by EC from project. Accounting isn't that hard, but Marrs makes it way more confusing than it needs to be.
The absolute worst i have ever had and cannot understand his high rating, he is objectively a horrible teacher and person. His lectures are made of his reading from a per-formatted script, like everything else he does, and although you can teach yourself using online sources, that defeats the whole point paying what we pay for a college class
The GOAT professor: class was well-structured, lecture notes were given ahead of time and he would just go through them and explain concepts in depth, made the class really interesting too. Actually go to lectures, follow along in the notes, do past exams and you can get a 100. Made this class really easy and fun, Marrs is the man
The class is hard.If you want a blowoff accounting class go to a lesser university & not a renowned business college. Marrs provided us notes and actually teaches from them. Go to class, take the old tests multiple times, and expect accounting mastery that will serve you in future courses. Utilize his office hours. Lol to the clowns complaining
Hands down the BEST professor I've ever had. I have such a good grasp of financial accounting thanks solely to Marrs. He starts with the big picture before honing in on specific topics. Cares a lot about the students and loves to help however he can. He knew every students name on the first day of class from learning our faces beforehand.
This course doesn't make any sense at all and I mean because of Marrs. Accounting is not that hard and def not as hard as Marrs makes it where something that should be explained easily takes endless babbling of tangents. The tests are nothing but tricks and the opposite of whatever you plan on studying.
Not too much to say, best professor I've had. Study his practice test as they as similar to the actual tests and pay attention in class and you should be good.
the absolute GOAT of all acounting teachers. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Marrs really cares about his students and will give plenty of opportunity for you to do well in the class, all of his lectures are very entertaining and he is overall one of the best professors I have taken in college.
Professor Marrs is amazing! He teaches the material well and gives out extra credit on exams, such as the max on exam 1 being 127/120 pts. The mark for an A is a 94%, and if you attend class every day, you will get a whole 2% bonus added on to your grade. If your finishing grade is >100%, you are exempt from the final. He is a great person!
Absolute nightmare of a professor. Spends lectures rambling about personal anecdotes. Doesn't follow syllabus, grades unfairly. Avoid this class like the plague.
Great professor! Great class!
Super nice teacher. If you pay attention in class and study his notes and practice tests you will be fine. Homework doesn't help.
will never understand people's obsession with this man, can't teach, not the looker i was promised, awkward and makes constant mistakes yea wow daddy marrs
Here's your sign to never taking a course with Eric Marrs. He claims that adding "a little heat" to his exams benefits us, but in reality, most of us are barely hanging on with C's as finals approach. The exams are incredibly unpredictable, and I've never had to study this much for any class.
Eric Marrs has way too high of expectations for his students. He spent 10 years on Wall Street and thinks that accounting is intuitive. It isn't. We do not know as much as you and it's unreasonable to assume that it'll come naturally. Also made weird jokes consistently. My friends with other profs all have A's and have a fraction of our difficulty.
Marrs' lectures are often rambles, where something that should be explained in 5 minutes max takes 15-20 minutes due to his frequent tangents. He has this phrase, "the tests are puzzles, it isn't designed to trick you", but they are. All tests had errors and therefore made the questions impossible to solve. Overall, super hard course; hated it.
“Tests aren't designed to trick you” oh yes they are. “Putting a bit of heat” on our skills means asking us obscure questions designed to mislead you/ make you think there's an answer. He will literally ask for a dollar figure and the answer is “there is none, the answer is 0.” ? Another example: “what's the change of X?” There isn't a change.
Most overrated dude of all time. Friends of mine all have A's in accounting with other profs and literally have no idea what's going on. Marrs creates insane tests that 2 or 3 kids per class do well on. You will not be one of the 2 or 3. Makes gross jokes "mistakenly", for ex- on Mon, then repeats in the next section, on Tues? Hilarious lil bro.
People who like this guy are glazing because he is charasmatic or they're accounting majors. Awful at explaining concepts, never works on actual problems, and you can tell he gets a kick out of people not doing well. Huge ego. Can't stand him, and I've loved every single other prof I've had.
He's a good professor and gives all the materials you need to know. The tests are slightly challenging with the wording of the questions but that is also an accounting thing. Take notes in class, do your assignments, and you will do good in his class. I'd also recommend going to office hours after tests to see what you can improve on.
Professor Mars is a good professor. I ended with an A, but by a clinch. I think he's the best teacher to take if you actually want to learn accounting, otherwise other teachers are easier from what I've seen and heard. If you go to class, takes notes (unlike me), and actually apply yourself, you will get an A.
He was a fine teacher but make sure to keep up with the topics and do the homework. I ended up getting a tutor and then I was fine because I don't think he explains things well. Most people like him because he is charismatic but I did not like his teaching. If you're willing to teach yourself the concepts its an easy class but don't get behind.
Absolute worst professor and person. Huge ego with little interest in actually teaching. Do not take.
Pay attention in class or watch his videos from past years. Sets very clear expectations about content and grading policies. His lectures were interesting and engaging.
This class is hard. His section is the hardest of the professors' sections, but if you stick it out, you will have a better understanding than the other students in other sections. He is very entertaining, and the class is engaging. If you show up, study or get a tutor, and do well in the homework, you will be good. The curve is very helpful.
Professor Marrs is a hit-or-miss instructor - some love his teaching style, others find it frustrating. The class is challenging, but he offers extra credit and attendance bonuses. unstuck ai can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Yes, this is a hard class but you are in Cox taking it, what do you expect? He has a great grading curve, and the project is an easy A, along with attendance bonuses. If you dont want to take a hard class, dont take a class in cox. Go to office hours, get a tutor. Great prof, challenging class.. its accounting..
Tries really hard to rizz the freshman girls and it's borderline disturbing.
The type of guy who needs to be humbled a bit .
While he can't reach well no one loves Eric Marrs more than Eric Marrs.
Take Marrs. Accounting is hard but he knows how to teach! If you put in the effort you will be just fine. While his tests are on the more challenging side there its nothing crazy. So yes, this class is not an easy A but Marrs is great and just put in effort and you will be okay. There is extra credit questions on each test that can really help
Good professor, even better guy. First day of class and he knows everyone's names already without the name tents. Fast forward, 3 semesters later he remembers me by first first name in the halls. Maybe he has photographic memory? Not sure, but its a nice touch when you get called by your first name and get remembered years later. Take him.
TA in charged to give us a review before midterm 2 was completely awful and gave us a study guide that would "help us" on the test. Well let me tell you that it was completely useless. Take if you want to teach yourself.
Doesn't know what he's doing and he has the ta do all the work. Lectures make no sense but he's slated by through ceeeping on the girls and being daddy marrs. Some of us aren't buying it. Truth is coming to light as it will.
Prof. Marrs is a good teacher, but his exams are hard. He does give lots of partial credit, but his class notes don't help prepare you for the exam really at all and is best to study his past exams to get you slightly ready for it. He does help you out and is an approachable nice person, but I feel like he underplays how hard he makes the class.
I thought the lectures were engaging. He gives all former tests, so you know what to study for and exactly how to study. He also has videos and notes of how to work through the problems. This class isn't that hard.
He has such an attitude and is so hard to understand. He talks and speaks words but they mean NOTHING. My problem is he doesnt EXPLAIN how to do the problems, he just does them. So its really really hard to learn from that.
Great intro accounting professor. Lectures can seem tedious, but he just wants to make sure you understand what you are learning. He posts old exams/quizzes and as long as you run through those you will be fine. He is very accessible outside of class and gives easy homework and a project to help boost your grade. Take him if you can!
He breaks things down very clearly, so the students understand what is going on. However, he sometimes goes off on tangents, which is a bit annoying. He gives easy homework and an easy project at the end of the semester to boost your grade. Do the past exams or you will struggle. Overall, he is very willing to help you, and he is a great professor.
SO OVERRATED it is hilarious bro thinks hes the daddy of smu for alllllllll the ladies
Great professor for Financial. Graded by two midterms, one quiz, homework, a project, and the final. If you make over 100 (by the extra credit from attendance and tests) you don't have to take the final. Lectures can be boring at times, but you really do learn how to do everything. Practice for exams with the old tests and you will do great!
He's not good professor. Literally half the class cheated across all sections and have been for the whole semester. He finally realized it because someone snitched but our grades have been suffering this whole time. He does not create fair teaching conditions and he's just not a good teacher.
Eric Marrs showing pics of his dogs to rizz freshman girls so much that he forgot to run a fair classroom and now all our curves are messed up bc every one cheated
I shouldn't be getting the same grade as someone who barely put in the work and got an 85%. They've been cheating this whole class and he only finds out on the final and makes a big show out of it while punishing the rest of us.
Mars cares about the school, the subject, and his students. He worked hard to make it fair by lowering curve cutoffs, and anyone complaining about their grade being affected has to honestly ask themselves if they worked hard enough to not put themselves in that position to begin with. Harder content that the other ACCT classes, but better teacher.
Lectures are the most tedious wastes of time I've ever endured from a man who thinks he hung the moon in accounting. Exams are nothing like he teaches and have no correlation to the material. His rounding and curves are done with cheating rampant so you can never win unless you cheat too.
Marrs will be the best professor you take at SMU. Endless test resources, practice exams, TA sessions, and zoom review sessions. Genuinely cares about his students. After the cheating incident, know you will not be able to cheat your way through this course, but if you make an ounce of effort, and don't cheat, you can easily get an A.
I took his class before the whole cheating scandal. If I'm being honest, he's not a horrible professor, but he did have trouble connecting with different students' learning styles and keeping a clear head. He's definitely not the best professor at SMU, and I think people who say that are really swayed by his personality, looks, or reputation.
While there are lots of resources online, he does not teach them and you have to figure out how to navigate the material on your own. The teacher is more concerned with primping and preening, being liked by the undergrads rather than teaching. He is not a good professor at all and I was in the first section so have nothing to do w cheating
The class isn't that hard if you can teach yourself as that's what it amounts to. People used to idoloize this man bc he's not horrible looking but aat this point i think its lore. He is not a good teacher at all and only puts in half-time effort for his half-time job, and your grade will suffer for it.
I took Marrs before the cheating incident, but anyone complaining about his teaching style is in for a rude awakening in the rest of their Cox classes. Marrs cares—he knows each student's name among the hundreds he teaches. He provides every test from prior semesters, so reviewing them will prepare you well if you pay attention.
He'd be less difficult if he actually taught but he freaking READS notes to you. That's his class. There's no reason to go so you have to teach yourself. Not a good teacher and him catching cheaters is him just finally doing his job.
🗑 GPA tanker and the class and prof is straight
his lectures are boring and he is very judgmental. if you ask him a question he doesn't answer the question he gives a sassy response back and your even more confused than before. not flexible for students' time, especially when outside factors happen that are out of your control.
could not help but notice that the class was not well put together. he would just read off of the slides, which were not very well organized. Because of this, the lectures were incredibly confusing, and I didn't feel like I learned anything in the class.
Absolute joke of a class. The guy spends his whole time talking about himself and made up stories from his “private practice” while clearly talking to impress certain people in the class. Very unorganized like he never prepared. Definitely adjunct level.
Saunters around the room like he's some kind of savant when he can't even complete a single lecture without reading from his notes. Boy needs a reality check cause he's the worst teacher I've had in my entire academic career.
t often felt like class time was more about the professor's need for attention than about student learning. He frequently made personal asides that seemed intended to impress or charm certain students, rather than support course material. I came to learn, not to sit through awkward attempts at charisma
Unorganized, makes no sense, requires too much work but you can gpt your way through it, just not a good teacher and makes classtime suck so bad. He also has a bad attitude and doesn't like certain students. Every class felt like punishment. Disorganized, unsupportive, and hostile to even basic questions. Childlike attitude trying to be "cool".
Class is required but completely disconnected from the course. Tests are from a software. Lectures feel like filler. If you're not one of the frat bros he's always chatting with, don't expect much.
Did not teach anything before tests. Gives you the wrong material to study for the tests.
Bro doesn't know how to teach and just reads his notes to you like a child presenting his third grade book report.
I learned nothing from the course... 😭 ALL tests are from premade materials that he never teaches, literally reading from his notes and even still can't lecture the entire class with a set of notes in front of him, tries to preen for the ladies which is weird af and EQUIRED attendance course despite his completely senseless class, boy aint right.
I've never wanted to drop a class so badly. he has not talent in teaching and has favorites and grades based on how much you kiss a, such a joke of a professor and he's an adjunct anyway
Super rude. Gross behavior.
He literally doesn't teach anything and just stands there reading his sad notes........😂😂
Everyone will tell you to take him, DO NOT DO IT. He is teaching us things for intermediate accounting, and his lectures are a joke. He will stay on one question for the whole class, just saying the same things over and over again, also his tests questions trick you so instead of a 1 minute problem it turns into 10.
No idea why people say to take him. Worst professor I've ever had. Stands there and belabors the same point for an hour because he knows nothing else about his subject field. Better options exists. Take them. Stay away from this one. Don't know how he got a good reputation at Al but it's def declining as more of us speak out.
He's super chill and understandable. If you're having trouble with the class, reach out to him -- he's very accessible outside of class. He really wants you to succeed in his course. Also, he gives tons of practice exams, which are incredibly helpful.
This class is 🗑️ and so is his teaching. I know not his fault but the course is nothing like what he teaches, which instead is on and on about his fake storie about being some captain of industry.
Such a babbling mess who doesn't even know the material he is teaching, has to read from notes, embarassing
Marrs is a great prof and makes class engaging BUT the cheating in this class is actually insane. People next to me blatantly take pictures on the test to put into chat which screws up the curve for everyone who puts in an ounce of effort. Marrs if you're reading this PLEASE put a stop to this for the sake of students who actually care!!!!!!
Impossible to get a good grade because everyone snaps pics of the test with their phones and sends them to chat totally screwing up the curve and he seems helpless to do anything.
He allows cheating or at least isnt aware of how to stop it, so you'll never have a fair chance at doing well unless you cheat too bc of the way they curve, aso a bad teacher
People are constantly cheating on his exams and he constantly does constantly nothing about it.
Stay away. He is so so so bad. Wouldnt rec to anyone!
ABSOLUTELY do not rec this class with this guy, he has no control over integrity issues and he's just a reader of information that has nothing to do with exams.
Eric Marrs is the WORST professor I've ever had. Everyone said to take him because of his "cool guy" persona. DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM. He just yaps without teaching at all. His test, get ready to fail, because they are nothing like his lectures nor his practice tests. You can put 40+ hours into studying and still open up his test and not know a thing.
A frustrating class. He censors differing opinions and focuses on being popular rather than professional. His approach makes it impossible to learn anything substantial, leaving students frustrated.
Marrs is such a chiller. Take him if you can he's actually the best and gives extra credit at the end of the semester. If you just how up to class and put in the effort, you'll do fine.
No idea why Marrs gets such a bad rep. He's genuinely top 3 teachers I've had. He gives 100% into his students and lectures. Accounting is really boring/hard but he teaches it in a way that makes the material insanely simple. He can yap at times and be somewhat repetitive, but if you honestly try your best you will get an A. Love this guy
Bro o bc here self glazing when he should be figuring out how to stop people from cheating. Don't take him unless you know how to cheat as your grade will suffer. He also sucks.
Bad teaching, doesn't know how to explain things, liteally reads from notes, just the worst and somehow can't even stop cheating.
