Took his telecourse, enjoyed it very much.
Ready hard teacher, stuborn and anal about things
Took the teleweb class. His lectures were boring. Every class seemed unorganized and mechanical. I felt like he was talking to hear himself talk. He made us join Yahoo for class even though UH has WebCT, which I love. Not professional, not personable. He needs to work on his technique. He might know math, but he doesn't know his audience.

He knows what he's talking about. If you want to learn, this is the guys to go to!!

Don't go into Math 115 expecting a math class, it's all about critical thinking and looking at things objectively. So if his lectures don't make sense for a while you will understand why he's lecturing about non-math topics when you take your exam.
Not your ordinary math class--barely any math involved. He went more into statistics. He often picked on students, and got sidetracked by random things. Exams were easy, final was a take home. Homework was okay, but the group project sucked. Even if one of your group members slacked, you all got the same grade. Not really recommended.
I took His cable class. Even if you don't watch cable, you are OK just with the textbook. The tests were easier than the textbook examples. not too hard to get A.
hmm, Professor Matsuoka knows his stuff outside of math. Class started off very slowly but finally picked up its pace. Somehow, class always sidetracks to other situations which is very irrelevant most of the time. Very few homework but it's hard to make up the grade once missed. He wasn't horrible but i wouldn't take his class again!
exams are easy if you do your homework. took the television course. didn't watch most of the lectures. the first couple lectures are helpful, but after a while, it's easier when you read the book and learn on your own. he replies to emails quick.
goes to the book for a little while then explains too much, gotta pay attendtion to what he talk about cuz you need to write in his quizzes. don't know if his jokes are jokes somtimes. don't know when to laugh or be serious. do your homework do understand what going on.
When first taking Matsuoka you might telll yourself "wtf did I sign up for?" but he's a really good teacher. He's more than happy to help you if you have any trouble and he's genuinlly interested in his students.
cable course. He's very helpful, fast in replying to e-mails, weekly assignments, extra credit points for turning assignments in early and extra points for detailed answers. exams are easy if you put effort into it. Great professor to take any Math course. Very understanding if you need to makeup assign/exams.
At the start of the semester I couldn't believe how miserable, and condescending this guy was. But buy the end of the semester he almost grows on you. If you show up for all his classes it should be an easy A.
Very helpful
This class was easy. Dont watch the lectures, its too boring. Read "his" book and do the problems. You should be fine. If you dont study, you don't pass obviously. Homework problems related to test. Easy
Took the televised class and did not watch much of the lectures. If you do the problems and read you should be OK. You may feel like you are not even taking a math class.
Class is easy, I watched the lectures, very boring, you could just read his textbook and do well. Tests were similar to homework. As long as you study you should pass with a good grade.
Matsuoka is super wordy when he talks. (In his text, on the tv, in responding to emails.) Everytime you try to learn a concept by reading his text, you almost want to tell him to "get to the point already!" I gave up watching the classes on TV and learned the material by myself. The only good thing about this class is the "cheat sheet"
He is a very good professor! He is clear you can follow what he is teaching and he will help you if needed.
Interesting, funny, and unusual teacher. Loved him! You never know what to expect during his lectures and always walk away from class with more than just knowledge gained out of the textbook. I found this class to be a strange and surprising unexpected breath of fresh air. Beware though... there is a group project, choose your class friends wisely.
Stats class. Interesting & intelligent teacher. Doesn't really go by the book. If you attend class, take notes! We were able to use the notes on our midterm and final. Project can be individual or in group.
Not bad of a class. Can get boring because of wordy lectures. Do your homework even it is not graded and study, you should do fine. Extra credit is offered.
Can be quite boring. I kinda fell asleep in his class once. Sometimes I feel like I didn't need to go to class because he didn't mention ANYTHING about statistics that one day. He questions you every time you come late to class. Not a bad teacher, though. Just do your homework and you'll be fine.
he talks a LOT. at first i couldn't stand him...but as the semester went on, i was able to adjust to his way of teaching. but, it's kinda like drinking a beer...at first it sucks, but you just have to keep at it then he's not that bad...you may actually start to like him and his teaching style.
I dont feel he gives us enough information in his lectures. He explains things in a confusing manor and doesnt go into detail on each topic. He only scratches the surface of each topic and expects us to know everything on the test. Gives analogize that i think has little or no relation to the topic.
He does talk a lot, but you have to get used to it. He's interesting and kind of random sometimes; you never know what he'll throw at you. He gives extra credit, that helps. I fall asleep sometimes but he doesn't say anything. Will be taking another class from him because I think his teaching is efficient. You definitely need to refer to the book.
Very helpful and willing to meet outside of class to understand the material.
He is very helpful to meet outside of class if you don't understand the material. However, when he explains things in class his explanations are sort of confusing and he makes comparisons to math that don't quite make sense. Overall he's a good teacher just make sure you go to class everyday to earn extra credit and to take unannounced quizzes.
He is really good at helping out if you needed something. He is really knowledgeable about math. He give tips and any information that is good to know about. Just read the text book and do the homework. He offers extra credit sometimes. He doesn't put pressure when taking quizzes and exam. Read the materials and you'll do fine.
Best teacher ever. He is very knowledgeable in the subject. there was never a dull moment in his class b/c what we talk about in class relates to our everyday life... I Have Gained so much insight from his class. Very helpful and easy instructor. very leanient on grading. (we had take home mid term and final). i give him a A++ in my grade book.
Very good professor. Of all my calculus teachers, he was the best. Just as long as you attend class and do the homework you should be able to pass the class easily. Teaches straight out of the book.
I had fun. I made the mistake of reading and taking notes from third sources on the last leg. I just wanted to see how other people approach statistics. I confused myself by watching different videos. Read the book and watch the videos, the last part of the book is the hardest. Check his site for an early start.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/math115
Best professor every.... This guy knows his stuff.... What you learn From his class really changes the way things are perceived in life..... Highly highly recommend his class....
not the best teacher, but you learn alot about mathematics
If you want an easy A for Calculus II, take this class. The grading policy basically hands you an A. Teaching style is hella relaxed. If you want to learn and comprehend the subject, expect to spend a good amount of time doing the homework though. [Lets you RETAKE all exams MULTIPLE TIMES, and takes the highest grade!]
Matsuoka rocks Mathematics! If there was a king of math like theres a king a pop, Matsuoka would be it! He is so clear & such a great teacher. Im so bad at Math & I got an A in his teleweb course. His tests are easy and he offers fun extra credit assignments! TAKE HIM!! He rocks :-)
I took this course over the summer. He is awesome, he tells you what he wants. He gives homework assignments online and the exams is base on the homework. He is usually available during his office hours and he'll help you understand the material.
Appears to know his subject pretty well,as well as business and economy. As a teacher,I'll say he fail to be clear with concepts that we need to know.I taught myself most of the time.Easy class though, everything online. You can take exams multiple times as well.
Professor Matsuoka is so funny! His lectures are interesting and helpful in understanding the chapters! This class only had 3 exams and one large project. This class takes a lot of studying to get a good grade but it is a fun class overall!
Prof Matsuoka is a fun teacher, he tries to keep you interested in the subject during class. Knows subject well and relates to real-word situations. 3 exams (3 tries each)and take-home assessment, can take unlimited times. can turn in each homework late for 85% credit. On the neg side, almost everything i learned was on my own. Do have to study.
Easiest math teacher I've ever had. Let's you turn in work until the last day of instruction. All 3 exams due finals week.Do Homework assignments its very similar to the exam. Don't purchase the book in store you dont use it. Buy the online package for pearsonmylab it's cheaper. Fun teacher with a lot of knowledge. Highly recommended
Took STATS online in my 2nd sem of nursing school. This class was so easy and reasonable in terms of work and the exams. Allowed double sided cheat sheets for the exams. Just keep track of assignments, as with any online course. I recommend this course to all of my classmates.
Professor Matsuoka really goes out of his way to make sure students succeed in math. He takes the time to talk to his students and become involved in their learning. Mostly, he provides solutions to questions and unanticipated problems. He explains math in a thorough and relevant manner to make math enjoyable and purposeful.
Matsuoka is the best math professor ever. He explains everything very well. He makes it interesting and easy to follow. He could teach calculus to a rock. You will definitely *learn* math if you take it from him. You won't find a better math professor in these islands. Matsuoka IS math.
Professor Matsuoka is clearly passionate about math and does a great job transferring this to his students by making it interesting, relevant, and showing connections to the real world. If I could give the "Clarity" rating a 100 out of 5, I would. He knows the content like the back of his hand and can make it as much understandable as anyone.
Probably one of the easiest math classes I ever took in college! Just gotta do the homework which is 30% and study it up to pass the exams. Gives you a huge chance to pass his class. His lectures are long but he gets side tracked and talks about other things to keep lecture interesting. Really lucky to take him again next semester and in future!!!
Matsuoka is good. Homework is all via MyMathLab, as well as exams. There are quizzes which make you think and they tend to be take-home. He applies math to real-life experiences which makes lecture cool. He's funny and approachable. Do your homework cause it counts a lot and prepares you for exams. Enjoyed the class. :)
Very Very chill teacher! Took him for calc 1 and 2 and plan to finish calc 3 and 4 with him as well! No other teacher I'd rather learn calculus from!
The best teacher to take calculus from HANDS DOWN.
I love Professor Matsuoka! At first I was intimidated because he goes kind of fast. But as the semester progressed, I found his class to be fun. He is very easy to talk to, so don't be afraid to ask questions. Participation helps A LOT: Ooohh, ahhh.. Lol he is one of my favorite professors at LCC. Don't buy textbook, just get online access code.
AFTER TAKING HIS CLASSES, YOU'LL PROBABLY CAN SOLVE PROBLEMS IN YOUR SLEEP. YEP HES THAT GOOD AT TEACHING MATH. HES THE MATH! HE IS SO GOOD AT TEACHING IT, YOU CAN LITERALLY SLEEP DURING HIS CLASS AND COME OUT KNOWING ALL THE MATERIAL HE COVERED. THIS GUY IS MATH GOD.
At first he seems super intimidating, but he's actually a great teacher. He was one of the best teachers I've had at LCC. I thought MATH 203 would be my hardest class, but I ended up with an A. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he's a great teacher and with be more than willing to explain things.
Prof. Matsuoka is very helpful as long as you approach him. The exams are not that bad because we can bring cheat sheet. The project is what makes the class a little bit challenging and you really need to be on top of it.
I LOVE Mr. Matsuoka. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Hes a funny and knowledgeable guy. He presents course material in ways that are memorable. Be prepared for mymathlab. For everything. When taking exams, you get a whole folder paper sized cheat sheet that you can put anything on. That makes calculus 201749401x easier. He's gooood.
I took calc4 last semester from Matsuoka. Best math teacher to take calculus from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Matsuoka actually cares about his student's and doesnt stand in front of the class reading the book. GREAT lectures AND you can redo your lowest tests. MAHALO!
In one word: EASY. You have until the end of the semester to do all your hw, exams, and quizzes. 3/4 highest exam scores taken (1 page cheat sheet allowed and exam questions always posted for practice), quizzes are difficult but can redo. Attendance only if you want stamps for exam retakes (10 stamps 1 retake). Funny, quirky guy.
Very knowledgeable professor. Always willing to help you if you need it when he asks you. 5 quizzes and 4 exams total. You can take them whenever you want in the semester if it isn't past the due date and you're able to retry them all once everyday.
Will be taking professor Matsuoka again in the future!!! He's awesome and very knowledgeable! He pushes you to do your best. I didn't need much help in this class but when I did, he made it easy for me to understand. I finished this class within a month and a half I think.
Need business calculus? Not to fear Eric Matsuoka is here for you. He will explain everything in detail and make math fun, literally!
He's great! By far one of the best professors I've had. He makes math really fun and his lectures are actually really interesting. It definitely helps to take notes in his classes and he is very clear about what will be on tests and quizzes. He explains the problems so you can understand and if you do your homework you'll be prepared for the tests.
Enjoyed Professor Matsuoka's Math 111 and 112. Would take his class again. He gives 2 chances on exams and if you show up to class, you earn attendance stamps to trade in to take exams over for a better grade. He allows 1 cheat sheet to take all exams. A lot of projects but was easy to do. Online homework is a must and you need to keep up.
I took the whole Calculus I through IV gamut with Matsuoka. If he offers the class, and you need it for your major (hello, Engineering), take it with this great man! Memorable, often funny lectures, forgiving exam structure WITH RE-TAKES, and best of all, free candy for coming to class!
I took Mr. Matsuokas Stats class online for summer. His syllabus was very clear about what he expects of you and 88% & higher is an A. His exams weren't too tough they were similar to the homework problems on my math lab. There was one semester project, forum posts, homework, and exams. Really enjoyed his class! I recommend his online class :)
Professor Matsuoka is a great choice for MATH 115. At first the class itself seems intimidating but majority of the assignments are through Pearson, an online website, and you have unlimited tries on most of the homework problems as long as you do it before the deadline. This class requires a simple forum post and reply once a week. Take his class!
The are weekly homework assignments, quizzes, and forum-posts. Exams are straightforward. This online course utilizes a program called MyStatLab (accessible through Laulima). This program is where our Homework, Assignments, Tests, and other resources are located. If your ready to do the work, it is doable
Would not recommend. Did not make learning statistics fun AT ALL. Professor does not reply to emails in a timely manner (within weeks) and provides very little information and no guideline for project to follow. Too many assignments and not much help given. Exam 1 was very difficult.
He used Pearson for his course, super easy. StatCrunch is big help, I suggest getting familiar with it. The semester project can be tricky, I would choose a topic that you are seriously interested in. Offers re-takes for the exams with addition post replies.
Over 88 percent is A, but all the exam is doing by Pearson, so you cannot get partial credits of your works. In other words, if you put wrong number in the each box, then youll get miss point no matter how the questions are easy. Also, his final is take home open book, so I highly recommend you to go your tutor to help out if you want to get an A
Enjoyed 242 online. Uses pearson; you have unlimited attempts at hw problems so there's no reason to get below 100%! Exams are just like the practice exams; usually 10 questions. Really easy if you do the prac exams because you get a cheat sheet . Show ur work and forum replies aren't bad either. It's graded on completeness rather than correctness.
Professor Matsuoka's online Math 115 class made it easy for me to actually understand and perform better on tests. He allows a sheet of notes every quiz and an additional retry plus more if you do more forum replies. I got a B for the course as I am not great at Math but I'd take his class over any other class.
Hands down the best instructor! He gives more than one chance on exams to get the highest grade possible and you can do a little extra work to earn exra exam attempts. His exams arent hard either because he lets you use some notes at testing center. Awesome all around
I took his class for HIT176 and I definitely recommend taking him! We did weekly chapter forum discussions, 5 case studies, and weekly chapter homework via MindTap which are due before the end of Sunday. Forum discussions helped lots through my peers, especially with case studies. I would take him again if he had another HIT class!
Professor Matsuoka was a very nice teacher and was very helpful with feedback when needed. Even with an online class I could see some of the extra time that he took to take care of students.
No lectures, no recorded lessons, no zoom talks, just tells you to watch the crappy pearson videos that are impossible to understand. I wouldn't even say hes a teacher at this point because he DOESN'T TEACH. Idk why i paid for a class that i literally have to learn on my own with you-tube. Wish i got a teacher that did there job.
Nothing negative about professor. Hes good at his job, just that hes a tough grader and has a lot to say if you did something wrong lol. I took MATH115 online. A lot of HW will be done on Pearson and must pass exit test with 70%! Final project is worth 315 points and a lot of work needs to be done for A. Forum done every week, along with replies
Took his class for HIT 120 and lectures/grading criteria are straightforward. If you had his class for HIT 176, then it's almost the same except this course doesn't require you do any crazy homework via MindTap. Weekly chapter post and replies with other peers via forum needs to be done, ONE final exam, as well as occasional Learning Activities.
I appreciate that the class is conducted at your own pace with benchmarks to reach every week with reminders. You will have to teach yourself concepts if you have him for an online course. He encourages us to reach out for help and explains concepts really well if you do. One of the best and easiest online classes I've taken so far.
Professor sends out emails to remind us and personally sent me a couple to remind me of the bigger due dates. There is one project that you work on for the whole semester. Weekly math assignments and the final test have unlimited tries. Weekly forums but easy to complete. Professor us quick to respond to emails and is very understanding. Take it!
His class and Pearson exams are EZ enough to get an A as long as study throguh Pearson HWs. I would recommend practice Pearson HWs problems over and over to prepare exams. Ill definately take his class cal 4. If I knew him from Cal 1, I would straightly take his class to Cal 4 and other his classes. Hightly recommend to take his class if possible.
Probably the best Math teacher I've had. I go to Manoa and took his class over the summer. The difference between this professor and the ones at Manoa is day and night. I've never had a professor as caring or passionate about teaching as Professor Matsuoka. He teaches the class with a sense of humor and presents the course in a consumable manner.
Professor Matsuoka is a God! The way he can simplify complex calculus problems and visually represent them through objects and shapes we already know is very much appreciated. He is a huge sci-fi dork which makes attending lectures that much more interesting. He knows his material so any questions you have he will answer. Gotta give him the .
Best Calculus class! Thoroughly enjoyed lectures. Real world examples were relatable. Prof very available!! Stays up late to answer student e-mails. HW and Tests were online but was quite helpful as it teaches you how to do the problems. Definately take all classes from this prof.
There is a good mix of math and writing assignments in this class. I did not know much about statistics before taking this class, and was scared that I would flunk. But the online math assignments were tailored to each student, and the example math problems were easy to follow. The professor was kind and gave good feedback on the homework.
Professor Matsuoka is a great teacher who is very flexible and relaxed.
His online asynch class structure is very generous. Unlimited tries on homework and tests. As someone who struggles with math, Prof. Matsuoka's class was extremely beneficial. It is not hard to pass this class at all.
Each week is 3 sets of 20 questions BUT there are like 2-7 more questions w/in each question! Must be able to learn well on your own and watch dull videos on math concepts. Prof is very response. Also had to do a group project. This was my hardest and most time consuming class.
