A really great teacher. Responds to emails quickly and likes to communicate with his students. REALLY enjoyed this class.
Glad to be the second review of Dr. Minzenberg, sure there will be plenty more to come! I thoroughly enjoyed this class and was surprised to learn how fun anthropology can be. I found him to be a very down-to-earth and relatable teacher, really cool guy. I highly recommend this class, not because an easy A, but ppl should enjoy classes they take
Great professor, clear powerpoints. Would recommend to anyone looking to learn something in the world of Anthropology.
He is a very cool, mellow guy. Going to class is pretty fun and educational, but you definitely have to study a lot for the tests. Attendance is pretty mandatory only because you will miss a lot of information from the lectures. My best advice is to study study study and you should be perfectly fine in this class.
Great teacher, great guy all around. He enjoys his subject and he can teach it. If you get a B, but he thinks you deserve an A you will get that A. He is clear about what he wants and studying is a must, multiple choice questions on exams, but they are what he goes over. Cool, mellow guy, and fun!
He's a good guy. He's passionate and very helpful for students. He's class is not that easy so it requires some work. The material and the readings might get a little boring.
Dr. Minzenberg is one of the most interesting, wonderful professors I've ever had. That being said, the content of his class has been redundant given that I had Anthro 2 with Dr. Ray, and Anthro 22 with Dr. Zane, both of whom covered all of the topics and used most of the same examples to illustrate their main points. Good man, good class, old news
I got an A. Had to kinda work for it though but he's a GREAT teacher. 1 midterm, 1 final, 2 papers, 3 quizzes (drops lowest) Super helpful and tries to make the class interesting. Doesn't put powerpoints/notes up though so attendance is pretty mandatory since most of the tests are lecture based. TAKE HIM! One of the best teachers at SMC.
E. Minzenberg is one of the worst in SMC. There is no extra credit, his exams and quizes involve lots of critical thinking and they are pretty hard, tricky. You WILL have to study very hard to get a B or an A, not an easy class. He even grades you on Participation so you MUST be involved in class or he will take off points. I do not recommend him
He is very helpful and wants you to pass. He teaches on a powerpoint but puts everything on ecompanion so if you miss a day you wont miss the lecture. I got a B and I didnt work as hard as I should have. But he is very understanding to your situation.
His course was amazing, he's truly helpful and gives you all the tools to get an A. You will have to work for it though, so study study study
I had him at Miami University, and he was our advisor for Association of Latin and american students. He really liked to turn the tables and made us really think. I was more concerned about learning than memorizing details. Because of him I am now a Latin American Studies minor! JPT
I have no words to say what an amazing professor he is. Anthropology was not my thing and i got an A with him. He's helpful and doesnt want you to fail. all you have to do is your reading and he makes the rest easy for you. Dr. Minzenberg should also teach anthro 1. I refuse to take it with any other professor.
I love Professor Minzenberg's classes. I have taken both Anthro 2 and 14 with him. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed in his class. You will need to attend classes and do all your reading, but it you put in the effort you will do well in his class.
Best anthropology teacher at SMC. He is so passionate and really wants you to succeed. Reading is a must, but it's not a rediculous amount and it's also very interesting. I deff recommend him!
very lenient. drops lowest quiz score. a lot of powerpoint slides and movies. easy. however instead of explaining he tends to say "duh dadadada" a lot to mean so on. a little passive aggresive. but almost always extremely nice.
Interesting class but material can be pretty repetitive. Easy if you put in some time to study and make sure to read all articles for the quizzes (the actual textbook is fairly useless, as the exams test mostly on lecture). Gives extra credit. Not the most amazing class but its easy and interesting enough. He is supportive + knows students by name.
Easy class take good notes dont bother with the book, very easy class, proffesor helpful good lectures does not post all lectures so need to attend class. Easy to Ace the class
Grades the test/assignments quickly, which is a big plus. Lots of note taking and busy work, but overall not hard at all. Participate and participate some more. You have to decide in the beg. of the semester if you want to listen to him lecture or truly understand what you are writing, cause he does both at the same time!
Candid, laid-back teacher. Might seem slightly disinterested sometimes, but I like that... way better than an anal retentive teacher. He will let you be. Very human, and hey isn't that what this unique "cultural anthropology" class is all about?
Good teacher. Nice guy. Helpful. Enjoyable. Def Recommend him.
He is hunky! Good looking for his age. His class is easy, you need to do the story readings b/c the quizes are based on those. Midterms are easy if you know everything on the study guide. Begin studying in advance. Very helpful! Need to attend class to copy lecture. Does not post all lectures online. RECOMMENDED!
Favorite teacher by far.
Great class, tests fair. Study and you'll do great!
Clear, concise, prepared, relaxed. Highly recommend.
Love this guy! Prof. Minzenberg is extremely nice, helpful, and funny. He lectures straight from powerpoints. The quizzes are directly from the readings, and the tests from the powerpoints. Definitely take him.
You can tell the man really enjoys teaching, if you have any question in class he'll answer, but you have to read the short sections he gives you. He appreciates jokes, and having fun. RECOMMENDED
Great teacher! Just study and you'll do great!
All that you could ask for in a teacher: laid-back, smart, helpful, reasonable, passionate about his subject. And sexy too. Classes are very informative, require significant reading. Tests are based at least 50% on the reading. Easy B, not a difficult A in the least. Doesn't demand much of you. Interesting discussions. Ultimately recommended.
Great instructor. Lectures and reading material are interesting. Has a sense of humor. I wish I had studied a little more for the exams- I think I would have gotten more out of the class. Nevertheless, it was still a great class. Provides a lot of extra credit opportunities- take advantage of it!
He tells students 1st week of class that his class is easy if you study and try, but this is far from true. Very unprepared for lectures, sped thru ppt's (couldnt copy evrythng down), didn't go thru all of the lectures, and tests were very poorly written and some questions incomprehensible. Take a diff anth course and professor if at all possible!!
Don't take. Maybe he was once a good professor, but he admits to having a new baby at home and doesn't get much sleep. Well he really doesn't put much effort into his class either. The lectures are rushed and incomplete, and the tests are extremely hard, and I would study for at least a week, sometimes w a study group. Take a different course
He is a REAL teacher who actually teaches you something! He knows his stuff and he made the class very interesting with various activities + lect on PPTs. (He posts them not filled in so that you will COME. Bring laptop and it's easy to fill them in.) Interesting class and teacher. Not easy-A but he offers e.c. Always avail @office & encouraging.
Loved the class;; learned a lot;; the use of powerpoint presentations was very helpful
Fun class. Very interesting even for non-majors. Great prof, funny, approachable, relatable. Gives EC. Go to office hrs. He answers emails FAST. HARD to get his class. MUST READ to get an A but good readings. Learned & applied a lot. 2 midterms, 1 final. 2 internet assgn, 1 paper w/ presentation. Drops lowest quiz grade. Good class. RECOMMENDED.
The kind of teacher that makes me truly feel like I've grown as a student. He expects college-level work from you but is very fair. Offers a good amount of extra credit. Very informative no matter what class you take with him. He wants you to succeed and is always there to help. Very accessible. Sharp, funny guy. Makes class interesting. Read!
Really interesting material, very good professor. He is helpful, he is really clear on lectures. Exams are not too hard, but cover the important material. Reading must be done. He gives out lots of extra credit points too.
I took this class in the summer which I was bummed about, too fast for something so interesting and important. Dr. Minzenberg is a great teacher, you WILL learn so much. There is lots of reading and I mean lots, that's the only way you'll pass. Highly recommended!
Awesome professor. My only regret was that the semester had to end. He is informative and fun. His grading is very fair as well.
He's always in such a bad mood, and extremely rude. I'm never looking forward to his class, because he is so mean. And I can't wait to be done with it. He also really really hate white people even though he's white himself. Not a nice person!!
I've had him for ant 2, 14 and 21. I wish he taught more classes :( my absolute favorite at smc. very straight forward-lectures via powerpoints which he puts up. come to class with them already printed so all you have to do is fill them out as he lectures. if you read it isn't hard to get an A. lots of extra credit. I learned so much from him! TAKE
I thought it was super easy. Just take the notes off the board in class and read the stories. Doesn't test on material from textbook. Really straight forwad class tests are straight forward too. It was fun too he's a chill teacher
I read one comment saying he hates white people. That's a big misunderstanding. I'm pretty much as white as you can get, and I never felt this at all. He's just against unfair white privilege :) He's a great teacher, gives clear lectures, interesting stories, and grades based on many different types of assignments and testing. Highly recommended!!
He's an amazing teacher. Very funny and intelligent. He gets all his test material from the readings so make sure to read them as well as the power points. You can download these from eCompanion. Wonderful guy. Take him. If you study you will be fine!
Power points are a bit rough around the edges. He's a bit short tempered and hard to approach. He can be mean and grumpy. Very passionate about his experiences. I learned a lot and the tests are totally reasonable. Fair grading. Study and you'll get an A. Show up on time he takes roll right at the beginning. Overall I like him he's alright.
Eh, overall fair class I guess. The subject's certainly interesting. Anthro21 is cultural Latin American anthropology. Too much reading for the few q's on test. Lots of extra credit but not everyone will be able to do it. It requires a lot of free time (going to club meetings on campus + taking notes) and you may have classes going on at that time.
Extremly knowledgeable b/c he has worked in the field a number of years. Gives extra credit and his tests do require thinking since part of it is free response. Shouldnt be a problem if u study.
nice professor simple class procedure with notes. gives extra credit opportunity which helps a lot and a pretty interesting guy. tests are not hard if u study, but are interesting. And this was a scholars course.
I took his scholars class and he was a horrible teacher. His grading is beyond horrific and he is very passive aggressive although he is very good at hiding it. His class is extremely dull be prepared to fall asleep in class. Honestly i wouldn't recommend this class to anybody. If you can avoid it do so.
VERY passive aggressive, sometimes flat-out rude. multiple choice on tests is easy, but short answers are graded based on your ability to restate his ideas word for word. only saving grace is tons of extra credit, none of which you can do if you have classes running through student activity hour (T-Th)
HIS CLASS WAS PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD BUT NOT AN EASY A CLASS. YOU HAVE TO PUT EFFORT AND PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. DEFINITELY LEARNED A LOT FROM THIS CLASS!:)
I do not know what these people mean by "he is passive aggressive, rude, hard to approach" etc. Prof Minzenberg is passionate about anthro and is always there for his students. He is extremely nice and approachable. If you study you will get an A..
Difficult tests, u can absolutely not miss class, since the notes of the ppt is all u have to study for the test plus readings that are supplementary theyre not background info for the ppt. However essay questions are tricky as well and some multiple choice are as well. However i felt he was friendly and approachable. Got an A
Dr. Minzenberg makes all of the course material extremely interesting and encourages questions and dialogue in the class. The tests are difficult but straightforward to study for because all of the info is in the slides. I would love to marry him also.
Very interesting! Really enjoyed this class and he is a very funny professor! Had a wonderful time!
Extremely passive aggressive, like you can feel his energy of hostility by just hearing his voice increase with mild tension. Overall a decent teacher; though, I ended up with a 89.88% in his class(which I hope he rounds to an A, like he promised). Considerably knowledgeable about Subject At Hand. Believes in equality for all, but I don't think so.
Omg, I don't know where to start. This class was my favorite. At the beginning, I didn't know anything about the materials, but I got so much out of his class. Amazing teacher. Absolutely helpful. I really recommend him to everyone!
Hard teacher. Pay attention in class, participate, read. He's pretty much very straight forward. Super mega easy on the eyes. I learned, did what he told us to do (pay attention/do work) and made out with a low A high B, the work you put in is the grade you get.
All I can say was his class was awesome. I actually loved being there for four hours learning about culture and role of women and gender. You do have the do the readings, really. But you will enjoy. You will get an insight and be exposed to diversity and gender. He is straight forward.
Not phenomenal like many people said. He relies heavily on his powerpoints when teaching (I mean, he reads them!). Tests are so manageable - that can be disappointing. You'll gain some points from the essay questions. MC questions aren't tricky. And sometimes, I wasn't sure if he read what I wrote on the quizzes. He's passionate with Anthro tho!
Great Prof! Power-points cover everything on tests, reading quizzes are easy (lowest is dropped) & subject matter is intriguing. He's extremely passionate about Anthro and it shows. He wants his students to succeed. Show up, do the reading, show an interest in the subject and you'll get an A. I highly recommend this professor!
His lecture was not bad, but you have to study hard above your expectation get an A. Exams are very confusing and difficult.
so....difficult and confusing tests!!!You have to study more than your expectation!!!!!
Hilarious proff and his class is not boring at all. Mostly lectures but interesting material. Quizzes are easy but exams are a bit hard. Therefore, you really have to know how to study lecture notes. A lot of reading though. Overall I do recommend him but don't expect an easy A
He has pretty basic lectures based of PowerPoint, but is very personal and funny. Does not sensor which makes class interesting. Always responded to questions or concerns--very professional. Fair grader. Read to do well on quizzes
Very smart guy.
Awesome teacher!!! very down to earth and real. I enjoyed the class this semester. For anyone that is taking anthropology, this is definately the class you have to take. It ws fun, and I learned alot.
He's a pretty easy A if you put in some effort and read the readings. He gives out a lot of free points (ie film notes, common sense quizzes about the readings). 2 midterms and a final that aren't cumulative. He's an interesting professor and the material is straight forward. I'd take a class with him again!
stay on task with the reading and take notes. attendance is mandatory to obtain all the information. You need it all for the midterm. If you go to class, do the reading and take notes you should be fine!
Great professor. I almost considered changing my major to Anthropology. Extremely passionate and understanding. Just don't be late and go to class. Read the assignments because the quizzes are completely based on readings.
He's lectures are pretty god but you have to study more than you expected. There are many concepts you need to memorize for tests. Also, you have to do extra works for getting good grade.
Awesome professor. Hes cool really reasonable. gives u a two day chance to turn in late homework. Highly recommend!
quizzes on reading, gives a little extra credit, tests on lectures, required attendance, attendance is necessary because of easy in-class work being collected for points, posts lectures on ecompanion, sends helpful email reminders to students about in-class work, polite, relaxed attitude, usually follows syllabus, UC Berkeley graduate
This professor is a fast grader who often updates the online gradebook for students. He is organized and seems to be very experienced. He is always punctual and easy to understand. The readings are reasonable. Make sure you attend every class. This topic of study seems liberal so conservative students may want to take a different class.
Gives prep materials for tests and the tests are not cumulative. Extra credit is available and he is a SUPER FAST grader. Make sure to attend class and try to bring his PowerPoints to fill in the blanks that he leaves to get people to attend class. Class was okay if you do not mind learning about diversity.
PhD who has done real fieldwork in jungles of South America. Quick grader who is always punctual about posting items on class website and providing all necessary information to all students. Organized and prepared for class with reasonable treatment of students. Honest and straightforward.
He doesn't just let you memorize stuff for tests, he makes you apply it. So that's why his tests can be tough, because you have to really understand it. He is such a cool person, and extremely intelligent. He is extremely straight-forward, so if you are easily offended, toughen up. You have to do the readings. I took 2 classes with him.
His lectures are off powerpoints which don't really make sense. However, his midterm and two quizes are take home and straight out of the reading, so it doesn't really matter. Tons of opportunity for extra credit. Had us bring in food and bought us coffee and some apples. Made us scones another time. Overall great guy I'd take him! Fun class!
He's a good professor, that really knows what hes talking about, all he wants are direct answers to his questions, no bs, quite easy if you study a bit. Hes a fair grader and can tell who really puts work in and who doesnt. Take his class seriously and he'll take you seriously. if youre trying to crash just keep showing up and youll get the class.
Awesome teacher, if you have the chance to take one of his classes -- go for it!
Encourages freedom of expression, extremely well organized, easy to succeed by following lectures.
Participate a lot in his class, it will be helpful. The quizzes and tests are based on the readings, read ahead! Overall a really good professor, he grades super fast and he is very organized! *Thumbs up*
Eric was so cool and really, really intelligent. He gave a lecture one day that was really inspiring pointing out that people fight and die to go to school and we have it at our fingertips. He said to get excited about learning and I really took that to heart. I wished he taught the entire course. I would definitely take him again.
Minzenberg will inspire you to see academics differently, take his course - you won't be disappointed.
Comes off at a cool guy, demeanor slowly leaks away into the rest of semester and gets in the way of learning and organizing. Treats classroom like the locker room and is somewhat snarky. In reality he doesn't promote freedom of expression, he'll barely let you get a word in when commenting or take your point of of context. He did show a good film.
Awesome class and professor! He has traveled so much, and is so knowledgable about Anthropology. After taking Anthro 2, he changed my major to Anthro!! Anthro 2 and Anthro 21 are both fun classes that will teach you a lot. He is super hilarious and always clowns around. Easy class if you show up and study the powerpoints.
Prof Minzenberf has a very positive attitude in the class, always tries to connect with students. Helpful during office hours. Lectures out of a powerpoint. Must attend class and take notes on everything mentioned. Participation is key!
Dr. Minzenberg is an amazing professor. He was nice enough to show us pictures from his trips which related to the material he was teaching. He is a very funny yet caring professor. He is also there to help you. TAKE HIM!!
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!
Pretty easy professor. Very funny but he does grade kinda tough but as long as you know what you are doing then it should be no problem. I would take one of his classes again for sure!
Text: Get the book, you need it for examples on the test, supplements the info in the class lectures Lectures: From ppts - uploads on eC, vry informative Need prior knowledge? No, for non-Anthro majors AND social science ppl Teacher: he WILL help you if you need to talk, go to office hours if needed!!, comes off as "your friend"/chill prof?
He is overall a great prof. but he is very strict with grading which can be a bit hard if you arent specific enough. 3 tests, 3 quizzes, & offers extra credit! overal great class and would def reccomend anyone to take him! he is super chill, & makes the class very relateable & easy to understand. make sure you take notes on his lectures! take him!
such a fun class!! has amazing stories and pictures from his travel experience in LatAm. textbook is essential for your grade, he gives you reading quizzes. also take every assignment seriously, I got a B- on a midterm which dropped my A+ to a 90 making me feel like a cliff hanger for the rest of the semester
Minzenberg is awesome. You definitely have to attend class if you want to get a good grade, but he's a good teacher. Definitely learned a lot from him. Plus he's funny. He was also very understanding when I had issues. And liked the fact that he actually learned my name right away, yay. I hate being just a number. He has lots of cool life stories.
Minzenberg is a great professor! I really enjoyed how passionate he was about the subject. He's also really funny :) I would take a class with him again!
Good lord! I loved him so much! He was so nice and chill, I had couple assignments I turned in late but he still accepted them for just a little points off. Got all A in his tests, never even opened the book nor read much for this class. His lectures are everything. Don't worry though, his lectures are actually really interesting too.
This guy knows his stuff! Pretty opinionated, but also respectful to those with different mindsets. Participate in lectures or else the class will be boring. Ask questions, he is happy to answer! The class is over all pretty easy, just show up and pay attention.
One of the best professors at smc!
Minzenberg is such a rad, amazing, kind individual. He helped me out with extra credit when my work schedule conflicted with most extra credit opportunities at SMC. He's very witty and the classroom is just such a positive warm environment. Lectures are very interesting and informative. I learned a lot in his class. Just an all around great dude
Great professor, super knowledgeable about Cultural Anthropology. He spent a year in Brazil as an anthropologist. Very blunt, funny, and personable, if slightly overbearing on occasion. If you read the assigned chapters and take notes, you will get an A in his class. No surprises, no tricks. Highly recommended.
Very tough grader although he doesn't come across as such at first glance. Bring laptop to class to fill in the blanks as he goes through the lectures (this will cut your work in half when it comes to exams). Don't fall behind on the reading, and stay on his good side. The guy REALLY hates phones so don't let him catch you. Funny guy.
I have taken two classes with this professor and both were, by far, the two best classes I have taken at SMC. Very knowledgeable, interactive, and fair professor. Open-discussion/lecture style classroom environment complemented the material very well. Stay on top of the reading, study the lecture notes, participate and an A is achievable!
overall he is an ok teacher, but he lacks the capacity to lecture about more than South America. He tries to incorporate other places but it seems that he lacks true cultural knowledge of these other parts. Can be very inappropriate with the language he uses in lectures, prefers to hear himself speak. If you comment in class he moves onto his o.
This professor is a nice guy, but not the best teacher. I took this class for a credit I needed and I now regret taking it. The professor is harsh and test guidelines are not clear. If you're looking for an easy grade in an Anthro course, look elsewhere
Very fascinating course. Grade depends on 2 midterms, a semi-cumulative final, 3 quizzes with the lowest dropped, a fieldwork assignment, 2 SLO questions, 3 in-class movie notes, and participation in class. Necessary to read both the assigned textbook chapters and book for quizzes/tests. For the love of god do not use your phone in his presence.
The review below is not shortwr than precise on how Prof Minzenberg runs his class. Great guy to talk to in office hours. Don't use your phone in class because it is ,first of all, disrespectful to everybody in the class and irresponsible. Great guy ! He is the homie!
I took his class after receiving my BA in Anthro from UCLA, and this class is bogus! It was like watching a cheesy disney tv show! It's filled with nonsense and useless info. The class is structured to showcase the prof instead of focusing on real-world anthropological material. Only take it if you have to, otherwise avoid this "teacher"!
I took Minzenberg for another course before. The subjects we read about were v interesting & eye-opening, esp. in terms of getting to know different viewpoints on identity/human experience. It was that deep for me. This course to a lesser degree. It's just generally about LatAm civilizations, but his lectures are still interesting. Handsome dude.
Easy B, hard A. Is a fair & fast grader, drops lowest quiz. Encouraged class to reach out for help. Kinda snarky, may seem cold, but is actually funny & sympathetic. Interesting readings & lectures. Highly rewarding course. Beautiful person. Dr. Minzenberg is the only prof I had who took initiative to inform students about DACA renewal. Highly rec.
This was my first B at SMC, I ended with an 89. I feel like any other professor would have given me an A, but not Minzenberg. He's ruthless. He gave me 23/25 for attendance even though I went to every class. I wish I'd taken something different. He also yelled at us that if we didn't want to try harder we should go work at Starbucks.
DO YOUR READINGS I tried to do all my readings the night before. huge mistake. Basically his study guides are to remember every single term on his slides like??? Its really hard he wants you to be fluent in cultural anthro in order to get an A.
Professor Minzenberg is a strict teacher. He requires and expects everyone to do their readings and homework on time and with attention. His lecture is very informative and you will learn a lot if you are interested in the subject and pays attention. He isn't a particularly tough grader, although don't expect him to go soft on you.
2 Midterms based on lectures 3 Quizzes based on textbook 1 Final cumulative Professor Hes a cool guy, lowkey kinda hot. Lectures are focused on Central America, but overall interesting. Participation matters so speak up whenever you can. I enjoyed his class, highly recommend.
Professor Minzenberg is awesome. No ego, no BS. He's really approachable, clear with grading and assignments. 4 journal assignments, 3 quizzes, 1 midterm and a final. Lots of extra credits opportunities. Go ahead and take his class, you won't regret it.
As an international student, I had a little hard time with the class but Eric was supportive and understanding. If you want good grade, don't focus on memorizing everything but try to understand the meaning of the lectures. He had memorized all the students names by the second lecture! I've learnt more than just theories in his class.
Mr. Minzenberg is an amazing professor he provides a lot of interesting information. His lectures are super important so make sure to take good notes but also be aware whatever he may put on a test will be different from the study guide he gives you. Personally though if you're new to anthropology, I wouldn't recommend taking his class.
If you have the opportunity to get into is class - take it! He's a hilarious teacher with amazing stories and great lectures and slides. He cares about his students and is very approachable, definitely a professor to go share life stories with during office hours. I'd take this class 10 more times. It doesn't get better than Minzenberg.
If you take him, do all of the extra credit!! It doesnt matter if youre doing amazing in his class, just do it!! It literally bumps you up a letter grade up!!
Amazing Professor! Lectures are so well planned, and his personal stories add to the teaching moment. His tests are easy if you study. Lectures do cover a lot, so be ready to write or type. Take your time on the study guides, they're available pretty early. He's just an amazing, understanding professor.
Very unapproachable. He is witty, and has a smart-alecky of a personality. If you need this class for scholars credit dodge it if you can. Trust me, I wouldnt be saying this just to say it. His study guides are extremely unhelpful. He just copied all of the slides online onto paper. Lectures are boring, and overall a horrible experience.
Prof. Minzenberg was not my fav professor because he seems really cocky and talks about himself ALOT and his past experiences. it's nice when he connects some of it to his past, but i mean, its a bit much. i would not have gotten an A without the extra credit, so DO IT!! i didnt do the best on the exams, but he drops your lowest quiz score
Minzenberg had a good sense of humor and is definitely passionate about the subject. Despite this he is not afraid to put you down if you disagree with his politics. If this wasn't the case he would be a great professor. Tests are mildly challenging if you didn't study. Put in some effort and you will get an A.
He's by far my favorite professor! You wouldn't want to miss his class, not just because of the obvious consequences but because Eric makes the content interesting! He genuinely wants to help you so I advise you pop into his office hours as often as possible. Also he offers extra credit, how perfect could this guy get.
An important man. He resides on the palace 3rd floor. He is generous enough to deliver powerful 2-hour sermons to jaded youth. Has authority over matters in the kingdom, but his subjects adore him. Performs magic and healing for the success of his most devoted followers. Requires little food or sleep and rejects mortal sentiments. Bows to none.
Eric is definitely a memorable professor who actually cares about his student's success. He has a lot of cool stories that will help you better understand. Do the extra credit, it will easily boost you up a letter grade! He does not give participation marks just for showing up so raise your hand and ask questions.
Minzenberg is such a great teacher. He gives great lessons and he makes them interesting. Most of the lectures are based off of his own experiences. He also gives good feedback on the work you turn in.
PLEASE. DONT. Take this class. 3 quizzes, 3 exams, a midterm and a final. All exams are difficult, even if you study for days. This was my hardest class all semester. Minzenberg is so unhelpful when you try to speak to him about your grade. He has zero sympathy at all, no matter what your situation is. He drops his students after their 3rd absence.
Minzenberg is my least favorite teacher Ive had at SMC. He is very cold and does not care to help his students when they are struggling. He gives lots of quizzes and tests, and unless you know all of the material by heart, you will absolutely not get an A, let alone a B. Minzenberg is also not afraid to drop his students without even telling them.
I took Anthro 2 with Professor Minzenberg in the summer and I highly recommend his class. He challenges his students to participate in class discussions and brings his personal experience as an anthropologist to the class. Outside of class, he offers to help students with their personal educational and career goals. Highly recommend!
Don't bother with this one.
A large chunk of people received low scores on his exams. You have to actually read and study his lectures and take notes. This class is not hard to pass but you have to work for an A. Grades are based on discussion post and exams.
I enjoyed the reading material for this class. The lectures were informative. I only wish I was able to have had this class in person as I feel the lectures would have been even more in-depth. There are lots of extra credit opportunities, and the Prof is available to answer questions, give performance feedback and offer academic guidance.
Eric gives you everything you need to succeed in his class; you have to put in the work. Lectures are detailed & test questions are taken directly from the lectures. STUDY, TAKE NOTES & REVIEW. He's fair; he'll adjust grades if the whole class misses an answer. Do the extra credit if you have trouble with tests.
Hello readers, My name is Sinde' Tantua.I took Professor Minzenberg's class in the spring semester of 2022. He was so supportive and very helpful. I enjoyed his class. I would definitely recommend. Very honest and sweet.
Professor Minzenberg is amazing! He's passionate about his teachings and would share with us what he learned in his own experiences to help relate to the concepts he was teaching in class. If you want an easy class then this isn't for you, but if you want to actually learn, sign up for this guys class.
I definitely recommend prof. Minzenberg. The course was very straightforward; weekly lectures, discussion forums, and multiple choice/t or f exams with questions that directly come from the lecture (syntax of the question can sometimes be challenging). Nonetheless, the content is not hard at all and there are many extra credit opportunities.
The dude is absolutely the homie! You'll love this guy both as a professor and as a person. I plan to grab coffee with him when school starts again next semester. He is clear, understanding, concise, friendly, and more than flexible! He is also extremely experienced in the field which makes him and his lectures very interesting! +He got us bagels!
Professor Minzenberg was awesome!! He made his lectures very entertaining and is all around a very cool and interesting person. Definitely write a lot on exams and discussion posts and he gives lots of opportunities to get extra credit. He has great stories to tell in class related to the material and I would definitely recommend!!
Probably the best professor at SMC. Easy A, very interesting class, and you do end up learning stuff. Cool guy as well, he got along very well with everyone and was very accessible. If you can take him, it's a mistake to pass up that opportunity. There is a fair amount of reading but also lots of extra credit, so it's kind of hard not to get an A.
Professor Minzenberg is one of the best professors at SMC, if you need to take this class, TAKE IT WITH HIM. His lectures are so thorough and relate directly to what the discussions and quizzes are about, and also just a caring and nice teacher even on online flexible. This class is so interesting and even if you don't need to take it, take it.
Nice professor! Took it online but he was accessible. Grades are made up of weekly discussions and 3 exams (multiple choice). The topic is really interesting, and his feedback is really good! Take him if you can!
One of my fav prof, shows he loves the material he is teaching. I was hybrid, so he posted the lecture online and weekly class where we go over the material again so he can go more in-depth. His lectures are very interesting; he is not big on writing, but prep to write. Rec class for everyone to take, its interesting material and life lessons.
Really interesting class!!! I really enjoyed it. However, the tests were quite hard in my opinion (didn't have enough time).
He was a great professor, his expectations are clear and his grading is fair. He will grade on the curve/ give back points if a question was commonly answered wrong. The class can be taken in 6 weeks its impossible to fail if you follow his instructions. He truly wants students to succeed.
His online courses are not as great as his in person classes. Almost the entire grade is based on 3 exams, which are worth many more points than the couple of discussion posts. Exams were long and with very little time compared to the amount of questions and their difficulty.Offers some extra credit.
I had issues adjusting to my schedule for the spring semester, I didn't study, & bombed the 1st exam. Professor Minzenberg contacted me about it, & I am grateful for that push because I needed it. His push snapped me out of my lazy mode. You must study his lectures to do well in this course. Plenty of extra credits if needed for a boost in grade.
Professor Minzenberg is goated! I took Anthro 2 Scholars with him in Fall 2023 and it was a great experience. We read two interesting books, had fun and engaging lectures, and cool discussions. Rsonable amount of work / time needed out of class per week. Exams aren't overly weighted (
Took his cultural anthropology class online for summer 24. Loved it and all of the material taught, great teacher, I can tell he cares about his students and delivering knowledge to them. Had a finite amount of time to get everything done due to it being a 6 week period, but everything was paced very well. 3 exams and multiple discussion boards.
This professor is engaging and wants students to succeed. The class has weekly lectures, discussions, and exams that align with the content. While not easy, the material is interesting and there are plenty of extra credit opportunities. unstuck ai was a great study tool for preparing.
Very easy and fun class - half of the class is taught by him and the other half by Grebler. His portion deals with in-person lectures - they are very fun and engaging. He gets excited when you ask questions! I love this professor and always try to take his classes! He is very funny and very passionate. 1000000% recommend any of his classes!
Nothing too complicated for this class, everything was clearly outlined and explained which made the class enjoyable. Lectures / power points were pretty long but manageable, if you take decent notes on those you should pass the class just fine.
I have been attending SMC since 2021 to hopefully be able to go to my dream school at USC. I have taken 93 units from 2021 until now, and Eric Minzenberg and only ONE other teacher gave me a B. I even wrote 5 SEVERAL 5 page papers even for extra credit, and he STILL GAVE ME A B. I do not suggest taking him as he does not grade fair.
Prof. Minzenberg is a fantastic instructor! Easy A if you show up, participate and do the homework. That said, my advice would be ***don't**** assume a level of rigor compared to a 4-Year University like UCLA - you might be in for a rude awakening on transfer!
took it as a 8 week winter class. easy A! not too much work and was manageable. Some writing req. I didn't learn as much if that matters, otherwise I highly recommend!
