He's a really good teacher. REAL FUNNY! he reminds me of homer simpson. quizes are easy. Everything taught is straight forward. midterms are easy. He uses examples with comedy. highly recommended!

One of the easiest history classes you will ever take, but you will actually learn something and, on occasion, remember it for future classes.

i admit, u will have to actually go over ur notes and study a little for his exams. but his quizzes are pretty easy cuz he makes up the questions during class. if u have any questions, he'll answer them n help u. dont need to buy the book. overall, hes funny n intersting. i'd recommend him.

I think history is boring as hell, but Narveson made it interesting to the point where I actually wanted to go to class. He's also really clear about what you need to know for tests (he gives you all the possible questions ahead of time). I highly recommend him whether you like history or not.

All of his tests are based on the lectures; you don't need to buy the book. Lectures were interesting. I don't like history, but I thought his class was fun. I'd take him again.

HE IS THE ****!!!!!!! Funniest teacher ever!!! Knows his stuff super well, and explains things very clearly. Loves analogies (especially sexual ones) and gives many interesting sidefacts. I LOOOVEd his class! I absolutely reccomend it!

GO TO LECTURE & TAKE NOTES!!! The lecture has more material for your exams than the book. There are a few quizzes (each base on material from that day). Midterms & Finals are essays (topics given ahead of time). WRITE AS MUCH DETAILS AS POSSIBLE. Write EVERYTHIGN you got from the lecture that is relevant to the topic.

Great teacher, makes seemingly difficult material easy to grasp. Very funny and knowledgeable about his subject. Take his class, you'll like it.

Narveson is the man. He doesn't sugarcoat anything he says, so expect lots of awesome cuss words. He can make anything a laughing matter, especially his OWN subject matter. He relates history to things in modern day society to make it easier to comprehend. Pick him if you're taking a history class.

Mr Narveson is the****!!! His class is amazing and I'm not saying that just cause i am a history major. The way he teaches the subject is very clear and interesting. Full of useless and interesting facts that will keep you entertained til the last minute of the lecture. I highly highly recommend this class even if you don't need to take it.

His class was so easy. He gives you five questions, that you have to study at home, then on the midterm he picks out two out of five questions. You don't have to think, you just have to memorize.

Mr. N is one of the best teachers that I've ever had. I've taken both of his western culture classes and flew through them. He makes learning fun plus he dishes out a bunch of jokes to go along with the lecture. The class is actually entertaining enough to stay awake through. Very easy, very clear, very entertaining. Textbook is 100% unneeded, attendance is not required (though you will get a bad grade if you miss out on the lectures), and the tests are easy and reviewed many times.

This guy is probably the best teacher I've had throughout my schooling. If you haven't taken this guy, take him. Even if you don't like history, trust me, he makes it very interesting. He knows what he is talking about and has a great sense of humor.

His class was very interesting coming from someone who really hates history. You don't need the textbook. Just take good notes and you'll pass his class with an A, which I did.

don't let his niceness fool you for easiness. took the first midterm thinking i was going to get an A. boy was i wrong. make sure you study in depth the questions for the test that he gives out beforehand - count out 20 topics for that particular question to study to make sure you get your 20 points. i scored A's on the rest of the midterms.

Let me tell you something...I transferred last fall but I still remember this guy. I HATED history until I took a class with Narveson...now every time I study for something history related, I always try to put humor to it. He does a great job at doing this and it made me remember everything...take him, you will not regret it

Mr. Narveson is a funny/comedy history teacher, this guy is excited guy!!! he rarely care about the attendence and u will learn alot history from him. The only thing worry is he grade pretty hard on the exam and u only take 3 quiz and 2 exam and a final for him!!!

i took his class last intersession. great teacher and very funny. stories keep you awake and also help relate to the subject. material is covered through his knowledge of teaching. take good notes though cuz you'll need it. he will say "the book is just a waste of your time and money". grading is fair and mainly based on quizes, and the final.

EVC has some of the coolest history teachers ever! Being a history major, i loved this teacher cuz he knows his stuff and teaches it very well! I didnt even buy the book because he says it himself, it is not necessary, unless you do not show up to class at all. As long as you sahow up, take notes and listen to his lectures, anyone will be fine!

i hated history every since the 5th grade, never got it & never internalized anything until narveson! he's very visual & discrete. always to the point and very lively! whatever he tests on is what he lectures on so it's a must that you do come to class so you dont miss any vital information.

This instructor is a true character and a barrel of laughs. Ive always found history to be boring but this teacher rocks and makes history come to life. If your sensitive about your race then watch out for his jokes and sense of humor but he didn't offend me. You can earn an A but not easily if you don't attend and listen to lectures. No hw ever!

He's a pretty funny teacher. He only took attendance once, & he accepted everybody on the waiting list. His quizzes, midterms, & final are essay questions. He basically gives you the questions ahead of time, & then literally rolls a dice to see which questions he'll have you answer.

Extremely humorous. Lots of notes to take, but he explains everything where you can understand the first time around. Test questions are given ahead of time so study your ass off, and write down every word he says about the topics. Very awesome teacher, and is great at what he does. All topics are easy to understand and he also helps you with the test questions, meaning its an easy A! Just attend the class and take a lot of notes and your set. Gives test questions out a week in advance, and as long as you vomit your brain onto the tests, you'll get a high grade. Amazing at explaining the material in a way that will interest the student completely. you do not need the book, however you do need to attend the class and take notes because his exams will be exactly about the lectures. most of his exams are essays, if you are good at writing take it!

This is the only class that I am excited to go to and wishing time would have flown slower during lecture. Exams are quite easy as he will randomly (by dice) pick 2 out of 4 given topics for you to write about. He doesn't care about grammar just the main points. 2/3 of the class is cheating during exams.

Summer 2013-Mr Narveson is an awesome teacher!! No homework. No textbook needed. Just come to class take good notes and you will do fine.

He's very open minded about the topics in History. He gives so much enthusiasm and humor that it enlightens you with so much attention to his lecture. Mr. Narveson is amazing! He is well-respected by everyone because of his rad personality. I personally think history is boring, but I've never fallen asleep to any of his lectures. Take notes and review the study guide he gives out. The study guide is the exact exam you will be taking. There are quizzes but if you pay attention you'll be fine.

taken over an intersession. textbook optional. take good notes and you will pass this class. 3 easy quizzes, 2 mid-terms, and a final, no homework. grading and what material would be on tests was very clear. if you had (for example) a high B in the class and showed noticeable improvement on tests he would give you an A. made lectures entertaining.

History001 for Spring Intersession. M-F 8:30-12:20. he let us leave early. 1 final70pts,2 midterms50pts, and 3 Quiz11 pts. each. the midterms and final have essay question. quizzes are super easy. he is very social. he is hilarious. great teacher. he also teaches at San Jose college

I took Narveson for 17A as well as 17B and I can honestly say that I will miss his lectures! For both semesters I received an A, but I left with a better understanding and appreciation for American History. Attend class, take notes and study for the exam and you should be good to go. Hands down one of the best professors that EVC has to offer.

Profesor Narveson, is so funny and very flexible when it comes to his students & history. There's 3 quizzes worth 10pnts, 2 midterms worth 50pnts, & a final worth 70pnts. I recommend not to miss no class since each class session is taking notes & you'll need all the info for the tests. He definitely doesn't make the class boring you'll be laughing!

I LOVE this man! He is a human history textbook. Lectures are OUTSTANDING and make you laugh out loud. Highly recommend him. Your attendance is necessary because all tests and midterms are based on his lectures. I took this history class during the spring 2016 semester. Professor Narveson made the class real interesting with his historical stories, his lectures were more like fun stories, very detailed and understandable. Narveson is a great history teacher. Usually history class will put me to sleep but he made it very interesting and easy to understand. He has a great scene of humor and gets to the point. Took him over summer class consisted of lectures, easy quizzes, and essay tests. Easy grader and will tell you what points will be based on. Recommend!

I absolutely love Narveson. I took him for intro to American History and decided to take his United States Military History class because I enjoyed his class so much. He's hilarious and his lectures are very interesting. Just show up, pay attention, and you'll pass his class.

You can tell he really knows (and is interested in) the material. His lectures flow more like a story, so easy to follow. He can be kinda crude and non-PC but it's all in context and good fun.

Wow! I was really impressed that he lectured from memory instead of giving boring powerpoints as most teachers do. He's a great lecturer too, keeps things interesting and funny. He told us a lot of his life stories which were entertaining. I was a little worried I'd fall asleep every day during intersession, but it was a great time in that class.

The reason why I love history so much is because of the amazing teachers that make it not boring. He's really good at giving examples & gives historical events/figures a character so you get a feel of who they were. If you show up & pay attention, it's an easy A. Great teacher, super funny and he really knows what he's doing. Took him last semester for 17A and this semester for 17B. A real gem at EVC, definitely would recommend him! There's no homework, only midterms, quizzes and assignments on the occasion. Just show up, listen and you'll pass.

Narveson is a great teacher. Hes made lecture fun. The materials is easy, as long as you study youll be fine. There was only two assignments, a map and 1000 words paper analysis about any document in history you want. He go over exams and give u answer and tell u how he will grade them. Overall, a great and easy teacher.

Took his course from the many great reviews he had online. He's a awesome Professor with many colorful jokes during his lectures. Don't buy the book, you are tested on lectures only! That being said you MUST take great notes as he tests based off his lectures. Essay questions are given before tests but given at random (roll of dice).

Narveson is hands down one of the best professors at Evergreen, and definitely top three of any professor I've had. He has hilarious lectures and manages to keep students engaged in a history class. I took him about four times while at EVC and did well in each one. Text book is not necessary nor required. 10/10 definitely recommend.

Professor Narveson is very funny and flexible. Though his lectures are engaging, I did dozed off a couple of times. Keep yourself occupied by taking notes attentively, also, quizzes are based on materials covered just in class that day! He was really understanding about me taking my midterm in advance. The midterms are all based on lectures.

If you guys are looking for a good History teacher for History 17 A then take Narveson. His class is pretty straight forward where all you do is take notes, listen to his lectures and you'll be fine. His test and quizzes are based on lectures and his midterms are pretty easy because he rolls a dice to pick the questions and he offers extra credit.

Just a straight-up awesome teacher. His lectures are very interesting and you can tell he's really love history. He grading is based off of test and quizzes which are difficult as long as you take notes. He also gives a study guide for the questions on his test a week or two so as long as you study it beforehand, you should be fine.

Had Narveson for 17A so for a student to take his follow up class 17B shows just how amazing he is. It's an easy A if you know how his class works, just take notes, (record lectures if you have trouble focusing) study your notes and you'll pass. He tells you EXACTLY what he wants on his tests. It says HIST17B on the course code but this goes for both HIST17b and HIST17A having taken both courses it is safe to say this professor is simply the best. Super funny. Hands down the best History 17A & History 17B teacher at EVC! No homework, in order to pass take notes and complete the study guide for the midterm and final . One map assignment, 3 quizes and one primary source assignment! Take him you wont regret it!

Took this History 17 B with this teacher again and all I can say that Narvason is one of the best teachers here at EVC hands down and if you want a class that doesnt have a lot of hw take this teacher. His midterms are based off the study guide that he gives and his quizzes are based on the topics that we have learned throughout the week.

He made what he was teaching very interesting. I loved how he would tell us tales to make us laugh and yet use that to relate to the topic of what he is teaching. He goes over what exactly you need to study for in order to pass the exams which helped a lot so pay attention. The pop quizzes weren't hard if you had payed attention and took notes.

There will be 3 easy 11 question quizzes, 2 midterm exams with 6 ID's and 2 Free response, and 1 Final. All of these are easy if you listen to lectures or just read the outlines he gives you. Although he tends to push his political beliefs a little too hard upon his students, that doesn't mean he is a bad teacher. He makes the class very fun and entertaining in history ( who would've thought). Would definitely take his class again, had a great time.

Truly my favorite class at EVC this year, he was so accommodating during Covid-19. Very funny and does get off topic at times but still gets through the lectures and information. He gives the actual midterm and final questions in advance to study, so as long as you take some notes during his lectures you should be fine! Totally recommend this class

I took his class the first time and failed with a D, probably cause I was always on my phone and never listen to anything says. However give him a chance and listen to whatever he lectures, he knows what he is teaching, and is straightforward about what he expects on the exam. As boring as I find history, he makes the content tolerable. There is no homework besides the document analysis paper. To be prepared for exams, you MUST heed the lectures and take detailed notes. Idk why Mr. Narveson has bad reviews, but his lectures were like having a funny conversation with someone. He gives you all quiz answers beforehand thru obvious hints , and all his quiz questions are based on lecture, SO SHOW UP TO CLASS. he does not use a txtbook and his grading is very straight forward. u literally need to not show up to fail.

Took his class over online intersession, for such a small frame of time the assignments were very reasonably spaced out! Fast grader+responsive, midterms+finals were pretty easy with a list of terms to identify+free response. He has a specific set of terms he's looking for in free response. Definitely make a Discord to help each other!

3 quizzes, 2 midterms, 1 essay, & the final. Just be there, take notes on the lessons and study hard. He gives the questions & answers for the midterms before and shows how he will grade them. The questions would be random on the test. He will also give back your essay if you miss anything and let you submit it again. Great teacher.

Took him for hist10a and currently taking him for hist10b and honestly my favorite teacher and class that I have. Lectures are pretty easy lots of note taking but otherwise easy. Make sure to show the first week or else he'll drop you. Also make sure to show up the days of the quizzes what he teaches that day is what will be on the quiz that day.

Attending every class and taking notes will definitely get you an A. I know it can be kind of distracting sometimes because you're sitting there listening and listening. So, I highly recommend recording his voice or preparing a computer for typing all the time to keep you focused.

The only thing you have to do outside of class is one document analysis (1000 words). I'm actually two of his classes right now and plan on taking another one next semester.
