Very Rude and obnoxious
Great class if not part of major because you dont learn anything.
Easy Easy Easy
Easy for this class! Take it as a GPA builder and enjoyment class
Great choir director. Funny in his own way.
Complete narcissist! Very condescending, unkempt, rude. Spoils a great class!

Great guy, nice and helpful. Friendly also. I enjoyed singing in the choir.
He smailes whenever he hears music. Gets way to pumped up about it. Never stands up, unless going to go check baseball game score. Kind of a weirdo.
Enjoys music, cannot play an instrument to save his life, so there is some added comedy when he tries. Wouldn't recommend for a Fall/Winter class. I took him for Spring, it flies by...he is an awesome grader!
He does love music...I'll give him credit there...but he is quite odd and isn't very nice about things...I don't like his choir either.
I have been in his choir for five years now. I love singing in his choir. He knows a lot about music and wants his perforemers to do well. If you are taking choir as a goof off class then don't take it. Take it only if you are serious about the music.
He's sort of nice, but he's nuts! waaay too picky about the wrong things and i cannot believe he has the audacity to CHANGE the music if he doesn't like it! it's against the law! and he appoints unimpressive singers in leadership positions.

He is a little on the boring side, but is so easy. If you dont get an A in his class than you shouldnt be in college. I would take him for an easy A
this class is too easy. dr nisula is very good at what he does, but also very repetitive. he leaves the room and expects you to stay.

You might get more enjoyment out of watching reruns of QVC!!! This class was ridiculous. Show up the first day.....have someone take notes for you or get a copy of the midterm and final....He gives out tapes to listen too. In the end, you can negotiate for your grade. Way boring!!!
he is very unclear... he wants to change everything, and can't remember names at all. Also must be tone def because, he will change something that sounds good, and not work on a section that needs work.
This class is so easy! Everyone should take this class. You can cheat on the mid-term and final. He leaves class constantly. He is extremely boring, but I'll take boring for an A. Also there are always a lot of hot football players that take the class. For all you girls, take this class!!!!
He is a good guy and loves music. He also understands that not everyone in music appreciation will have a fine tuned ear, so he makes it easy. It is part of gen ed requirements after all.
OK this was the most boring class I have ever taken and he is the most boring teacher I have ever had.He is really passionate about his work but treats class like we are a bunch of retards! You do not need book and you do not need to go to the concerts..helpful to bring other work while he babbles o

It is so easy and anyone can pass.
Dr. Nisula is a man that enjoys music and what he does but just a little too much he means well but is very confusing at times and isn't open at all to suggestions. Very strict on grades so you BETTER go to the concerts or you won't be happy when you get your grade.
This class is so easy. Anyone can pass it. Do not buy the book because he teaches strictly from his head. The final and mid-term exams are open note. I would recommend taking this class because it is very easy.
This was the easiest class ever! The midterm and exam were open note so it was a breeze. We only had to write two short papers. Not a very organized or interesting professor though. Although it was an easy A, I wouldn't take Nisula again.
I love choir, but this guy is kind of ruining it for me. I missed one practice that wasn't even required due to an emergency, and he threatened me with my grade and a class trip that we're going to take later in the year, then remembered that I was very dedicated so he was sorry. Very unorganized.
Dr. Nisula is very passionate about music. He is not so passionate about his students. Maybe he just doesn't understand that we have lives too! He is a very talented musician and a very nice guy. For him as a person I give an A, as a prof a C. He can't control his class!
Easy easy easy. Don't waste your time going to class, just find somebodies old tests. Don't even go to the concerts, just write the papers on what YOU think happened. I don't think he even took the time to read them.
This class was a complete waste of time. He is a very interesting guy though. I will tell you...that isn't coffee in his coffee cup!!!
Weird guy...horrible class, but easy enough to get an A. Concerts are not nessessary to go to, just a waste of time and money. Easy to BS you way through class. You can get the whole class done in about 2 hours. 2 papers, 26 journal entries, and his tape, screw the tape!
This guy is nuts but his class is very easy. Don't bother with his crazy tapes or concert. Just make sure you do your journal, two papers, and have notes for his tests even though he leaves the room while you take them. You'll be bored to tears, but an easy A...just don't make fun of him...

this class is a waste of time. this guy is so ****ing scattered brain in class he has to be an alcholic
Dr. Nisula is a very talented man, but can also become irritating. He is super critical towards concerts, when in the beginning of the semester, he is lazy. He picks favorites, which can be very discouraging to the rest of of class. He also tends to be very vague with things that he wants...
Dr. Nisula is scatterbrained, but I learned a lot from him.
If you had a problem with Nisula in the choir, you probably cant sing and you definately don't know how to act in class.
This class is sooo BORING!!! It is a super easy class, but it is so hard not to fall asleep!! You can use your notes on the tests which makes it easy, but he is always late and is the most boring guy ever!!
He is an alright director but he is very unclear with instructions about concerts and such. I always feel left out of the loop. Also, he is not very empathetic to anything and sometimes says pretty harsh things. All artsy people are like that I guess though ;)
Very enthusiastic, and he is AWESOME!!!
This guy is hilarious!!!! He is so passionate about the subject and he refers to the class as "Ok Class" it's great, but go to class everyday!!!!!
Dr. Nisula is a very intelligent man and is a good prof!
this was a very easy class. there is almost no homework. you have to listen to a piece of classical music and tell something about it. you have one paper to write and ab orchestra to attend. you alomost never have to go to class..but you can use your notes on every exam taken. which is only to. reccommended for an easy A
Dont buy book- waste of money he teaches straight from his goofy scatterbrained head, just a weird guy. class was so easy, do journals listen to your cds and got o class once in a while, just copy notes from other kids because you get to use notes on his two exams. words cant describe the teacher.
hes. funny i have him one time a week for 3 hours and i leave after the 1st hour every time.. i got a B in the class. he's funny and its a good time while your there dont buy the book tho i havent took it out of my desk all year honestly.
If Dr. Nisula would stop worrying so much about hurting people's feelings and start reinforcing the classroom rules, I would enjoy attending his class. Instead, I'm constantly upset and frustrated in class because he is not fair to the students who care and attend his class every week. Intelligent, musical man, but needs to inforce rules.
Easy class, but I can't STAND Dr. Nisula. Painfully disorganized, scatterbrained, unclear about assignments. Tests r open note, and if you go early he will have the test sitting out for you to start (so feel free to cheat). Take the class if ur a slacker for an easy A. If u want to learn or r frustrated by others not working for grades, stay away.
He's always about 10 minutes late. You seriously do not need the book. Very boring, but we got out early. The 2 tests are open-note.
If you're looking for blowoff classes then this is the guy. His lectures are totally based off the notes and he doesn't expect much from you if you're not a music major. If you are a music major however, you won't get much out of it.
This is a ridiculously easy class. Little outside work and only two exams, both open note. Lectures are a bit painful to get through, but in the end its worth it for the A.
Horrible, horrible class. It is SO BORING! I have migraines already, and this class is what brings one on! I don't understand why the Univeristy requires us to take such a rediculous class! He is not very helpful and we have two exams throughout the sememster and that's basically you're grade, so if you mess up, you're screwed!
wow, very boring class a difficult to get through. doesnt last all 3hrs though so thats a plus. just make sure to go to class and take down the notes he tells you to. 2 open note exams and some extra credit is all you do for your grade, so make sure you do well....ok class? haha
It's simple, anyone who complains about this class is an IDIOT. It's SO easy, if you complain, people will for sure know you're lazy. Go to class, take notes, leave when he starts the movies, get the "secret note" that he gives after the movie from a friend... BAM, easy A. Actually, easy A+, he gives extra credit too! So, got it? EASY EASY...
Take his class during the Spring/Summer so you can zip right through it. Not much is required of you. Very friendly and loves music of all kinds. So should you.
Choir is fun and easy. Sometimes Dr. Nisula is a little scatterbrained and unorganized - but he always means well and always puts his students first!
Dr.Nisula is very scatterbrained. He puts his students 1st and I think that may be some of his problem. I noticed that the class is somewhat out of control at times and if he would just stand up and say QUIET AND LISTEN, I think that the sudents would respect him a little more. Over all he is a good teacher he could use some work, like every teacher
This class was very easy, didn't need the book either. Class always ended early and the assignments and exams were simple. I definitely recommend Dr. Nisula for MUS 117.
Dr. Nisula is very nice, but very scattered in thought and unorganized. I sang in both of his choirs for two semesters and lost most of my interest in singing in a choir. I wish the class would have been for students only and not for the community. While we are paying for the class, a bunch of older people are singing for free. Its not fair.
I took Music 117A. It was so easy. The Professor Nisula is all over the place but the fact is the class is so easy. You don't need the book, and tests are open book. I would recommend this to anyone.
So kind hearted, funny, and really does love his music. I think he is scattered minded, but it's just a sign of his genius. He's all together wonderful.
Great teacher! I love his class!
AWESOME.
Easiest class ever!!!! the class was pretty boring but Prof was entergetic and def knows all about music in all genres and time periods. Use notes on exams and the papers are only 5 points each. He is really a nice guy even though he can be scattered. Recommended for anyone who needs an easy pass for Mus credit.
terrible teacher, worst ever...-
Such an easy class! He was a little unorganized, but also entertaining to watch.
its good teacher , you just need take note in the classs and listen the CD after the class . You will get a best grade . BTW Don't buy the textbook
Professor Nisula is extremely nice and more than fair in his grading. He expects little of his students, however, and the class is much too easy for anyone to learn much about music. Notes are allowed on all tests and only one paper is required for the entire semester. Class is very unorganized and lecture is ALL OVER THE PLACE.
He is a nice guy and very helpful, but it would be helpful if he was a bit more organized. If you go to class and take good notes you will do just fine. I'm not fond of how he chooses to borrow a student's notes to write the tests, as not everyone takes the same notes. Overall, I liked him though!
Dr. Nisula is a bit scattered at times, but that's part of his charm. He is kind-hearted, almost to a fault, musically brilliant, and very generous. Be a REAL student, ask questions, and you'll be richly rewarded. He is an incredible choir and collegium director - a master! His arrangements are second to none – you'll do well to study them.
A gifted choir arranger and director. His artistic vision and arranging skills are top notch. I saw this dude in command of 2 large concert choirs once – 150+ people – he was like a wizard wielding pure emotion. Gives me chills remembering it! If you're lucky enough to perform with him, PAY ATTENTION, work hard, and make him proud!
While it is clear Nisula loves what he does, he is all over the place and is always ten minutes late to class. He is quite scatterbrained and unorganized, and it is rather difficult to pay attention in class. However the tests are quite easy. Don't buy the book.
Easiest professor ever! if u want high grade, take his class. he is willing to help u, this is my first semester, and i got an A in his class.
Dr. Nisula's class is very easy however he never knows what he previously taught. Lectures are mainly watching movies and listening to the music he brings to class. Doesn't really know how to play an instrument either. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. He never once used the word "book" the whole time!
music 117a sooooo easy. don't buy book though
NEVER used the book. The class is easy just have to take notes. He makes you listen to this CD and memorize it for midterm and final. That is the only challenge I had. Other than that he was a good guy, funny too.
Very easy! & he's easy on the eyes!
I had Dr. Nisula for the Classical Music class last semester, and am currently in his Music in the U.S. class. Both classes have 2 exams, and you are allowed to use any notes you've taken. We never used the textbook, so don't buy it! There are a couple writing assignments, a concert trip, and you have to listen to the cd's he give. Great professor!
Dr. E is a really nice guy and very knowledgeable about music. However, his rehearsal style is very odd, he will spend an entire class period on one piece of music and the same measures over and over again. If you talk to him one-on-one he is very sincere and cares about his students.
2 tests and 1 paper on the concert you attend. Easy A. Notes and book can be used on tests. Lectures are boring, but easy class overall.
2 exams and a paper determines your grade. You must attend a concert. lectures are very boring and usually consist of listening to music the first half and then watching a film the last half. Can use notes and book on test. Easy A if you show up and can only have 3 absences. Anymore result in a letter grade drop.
Eric is pretty goofy and loves music. Its a three hour class but don't skip any and stay for the entire period. Take good notes during lecture because you get to use them on the two exams. The only other assignments are a paper on Mozart, a paper about a concert you'll attend that semester, and a 26 entry music journal. No need to buy the txtbook
Easiest class I've ever taken. If you show up to class and take notes you will pass. Make sure not to skip a lot. Lectures never go to end time. One paper at end of semester that is two pages long about a symphony you had to see earlier. Exams are one page with like 30 multiple choice questions. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK- it isn't needed.
The constant talk of religious music is intellectually mind-numbing, but he 100% knows what the hell he's talking about. He wants everyone to see the beauty in music. This is a fairly easy, but you can learn a ton if you have an honest interest in classical music or you can open your mind to apply classical theory to other genres. A+++
Very very lovely teacher. This is the best teacher I have seen in all my life. God bless him and I really have big respect for this teacher. If you want to enjoy you life and be happy takr this class. I really really recommend everyone to take any class with him.
He really wants his class to appreciate music. He always wants the students opinions and really appreciates participation. Very nice man and willing to help. Dont buy the book, everything youll need will be in the notes. HATES cell phone use in class and will call you out for it. But overall hes a great professor and his class was easy to pass.
Easiest 117C teacher to have and get the credit for. Come and go as you please, but use your notes on your exams, doesn't like phones and will call you out on it but super easy to hide them. The man is like 80.
He was very confusing at times and his lectures are all over the place. Lots of boring videos
Very easy class to pass. There's the mid term(45 pts),final (45 pts), and one paper(10 pts). Attendance isn't mandatory, just make sure you can get notes from someone else in the class because you can use them on your mid term and final. Laid back teaching, obviously boring if you aren't interested in music but it's not that bad. NO phones allowed
Best general ed music teacher out there. Super easy, likes to take notes and "get the hell out of here." You can use notes on the test and gives extra credit if you present music to the class. Minimal effort class would definitely take again.
Lots of writing that for journals, but it's not hard just time consuming. If you show up to class every day, take all the notes you can, participate in class, and aren't rude, you'll pass. You can use your notes on the exams, and he uses someone's notes to make them. Lots of talking and movie watching, so not difficult.
Boring lectures makes you listen to a lottt of music watch a ton of videos. CANNOT use your phone easy to sneak though. Exam pretty simple if you take good notes allowed to use on exam. Must attend a concert write a short paper. I guess he just started to grade attendance. Overall easy A if you take good notes and MUST do your journal entires
The man is a music genius!! I came into class knowing that it was going to be an easy A class, but I wasn't very excited for the material. After taking this class, I came to LOVE classical music. Dr. Nisula is an amazing professor and knows his stuff well! Do NOT use your phone in class, he will take it away. You don't need the textbook.
He is very knowledgeable about music and doesn't get the respect he deserves. The class is an easy A if you do the assignments and take notes in class. Do not use your phone in class. Bad part of the class is it is scattered, he plays music too loud, and he actually wants you to know 20 pieces and their composers for the test (80% of grade).
Real Jem! Hes so cool! Would take again. Beware of cell phones he will call u out on it other than that youre fine.
His class is one of the easiest class to pass, if you take notes during class and you will do perfect on the exam. The exam is open book and open notes and is pretty much what you have on your notes. If you listen to the CD for the class before midterm and final, you will feel easy on the listening part of the exam. No homework but a concert paper
Pretty Simple class, Mostly graded by mid term and final. If you show up and write notes you'll be fine. All exams are open note. This class is the easiest A you'll get in college. Sadly, there are no phones and no laptops which sucks because I am a laptop note taker. Dude is very old. Do the EC given at beginning of the semester.
Do not buy the book he says the first lecture that you do not need it. This class was really easy and did not take much effort. Dr. Nisula is very understanding that this class is taken just for an art credit, therefore he grades easily. The class is kind of boring and seems to take forever, but he always let you out early.
Dr. Nisula was a very laid back professor that realizes we're not all music majors. He talks for a little bit, pops in a movie, or cassette, then you leave. Super easy to pass, show up, take a few notes, and listen to the CD he will give you.
Class tends to be boring due to me having no interest in music in the u.s. His exams consist of you using all of your notes, and you never even have to study.
The class is pretty easy and can be taken care of no problem. The exams are very easy but there is one caveat: These exams require you to recite the names of the compositions from a CD during a listening portion, so make sure you dedicate enough time to this study. Overall a laid-back professor with a good sense of humor.
Participation is key! Other then that the class is extremely easy. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK!
DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. All music needed is posted on canvas. All the notes he gives during class is what you are tested on so if you don't get those notes, you won' pass. He takes daily attendance. Grade is determined by 45pts midterm, 45pts final, 10pts paper on a concert you attend. Notes are used of midterm and final. Do the 3pts extra credit
Nice guy held a super easy class. No e-devices at all on policy but he hardly checks unless you have like a laptop. Hard of hearing, just save the trouble and speak up. Entire grade is two exams, one report on a 13 dollar concert, and one EC opportunity. Allows any notes on exam, literally did not pick up the textbook the entire class, EZ A
Makes you appreciate music in a new way. Fun experience and he is realistic about what he asks from students. He realizes not everyone is a music major. It's hard to come away from his class without a new appreciation for classical music.
Professor Nisula was a great professor. I had never played an instrument before and learned the basics of piano under him. He was very understanding that people had differing skill levels and was not a harsh grader. He always was joyful and interesting to listen to. The class is easy as long as you show up.
Very easy course and most people taking the class for the general ed class will be satisfied. If you are a music major though or are interested in a challenge I think you will disappointed. Nisula is not very tech savvy so you barely have any outside of class work. The exams are almost your only grade and they are pretty easy if you practice.
Easy class just show up and write down what he says. Kind old man who is very caring. Will give the final a week early so you have more time for your important classes. Understands not everyone is a musical genius.
Prof. Nisula was a good, respectable professor to have for completing a gen ed. course. The class was very easy if you have some background knowledge of music. If you don't have any experience, he will grade you based on how much you progress. He is very understanding if you are a beginner and is an easy grader.
Taking the piano class with him is the way to earn an easy A. Sure he is old and forgets a lot of things. If you show up to class and do the piano listening he assigns you should get an easy A in the class.
He was very sweet and passionate about the class. If you showed up and did what you were told, you got an A. However, he is not very tech savvy and he does not use Canvas really so you don't see your grades. He also does mark your grade down if you skip class a certain amount of times. This class is extremely easy but boring.
Nisula does NOT use Canvas, so you won't know your grade until the end unless you ask. That being said, the class is mostly based on improvement/participation, attendance, and a small handful of listening assignments you email to him. You NEED the textbook as he's a stickler for playing pieces from it. Otherwise, it can be pretty boring.
Professor Nisula is very kind and so enthusiastic about his class. The class is very easy and just requires you to show up, take notes, and listen to great music. Lectures can be pretty boring, but you can use your notes on the exams and the journal entries are easy. The concert is so fun to attend so you should if you can!
Professor Nisula is very old, not with the times, and quite rude to his students. He has a great passion for what he is teaching but the majority of the class time is just listening to classical music and nothing else. I say this not to be mean but out of respect for the students. Professor Nisula needs to retire.
Very nice, sometimes doesn't respect students and their ideas. He gets mad when you get up to use the bathroom and calls you out in front of the whole class when you do. Exams are on notes but, you'll have no idea what because, he doesn't make sense half of the time. Class is easy but, the only thing you are graded on is two exams.
The class is easy if you show up and do the work but it is hard to motivate yourself to do those things. He can be quite rude especially if you speak your mind and will nitpick your journals that you have to present in front of the class. The list he gives you can have few selections for songs and if you use the same as others he gets mad
The class with Prof. Nisula is a laid-back musical journey. While the lectures can be dull, the exams focus on identifying compositions, so using Unstuck study and other study tools helps a lot. Overall, an easy class that grows your appreciation for classical music.
He has a lot of passion but he isn't coherent. He is so old, cannot walk, cannot hear, can barely get a sentence out. By the second day of class half the people dropped. I am a musician, the class itself and the work is not the problem, it is all him.everyone spells out what they're saying or repeats themself MULTIPLE times because he can't hear.
VERY hard of hearing making the class difficult and annoying. He doesn't like phones to be used or even laptops. Easy grade if you show up and do the delicious lists he asks for. Wouldn't take again though.
Eric N. is a teacher that cares about music a LOT; but he's very old and his lectures are rants about music. He spells everything out as if we aren't college students ("string"), can't have your phone out without him ranting about it, & comments on everything. (A guy had a deep voice, made him count 1-10 & then called him the cello.) Should retire.
Professor Eric was a very clear teacher of what he wanted students to learn; however he could be very rude towards students and made passive aggressive comments. If you do the homework and don't skip lecture you will pass.
Not respectful to students at all. Made uncomfortable comments about religion and race. Double-check everything he says since he tends to mix things up. The class consists of him sitting there and just talking and spelling words out. Make sure you do the journals. Drops you a grade every time you miss class. Needs to retire like now.
Nice guy but is definitely a bit out there. Makes off hand comments about students sometimes and can get a little strange. If you just show up to class and do the 4 listening assignments, it's a cake walk. Easy A. Midterm and final are just you playing for him and its extremely easy. Would take again.
