Very cool teacher, Easy A

One of my all time favorite teachers of english, his class was focused around science fiction short stories which, although not a personal favorite, he made very interesting and digestable. Final and midterm not hard at all, u HAVE to take Pape.

Loved his class. Very interesting and insightful even if i am not a Sci-FI books fan. He never gives a 100% on any Essay because he belives theres no right or wronng answer out there, and I think its cool because every students opinion counts. :)

easy A. I only turned in 2 assignments and got a B. Likes to workshop as a class, not good for the shy types. You'll have to read your stuff out loud. And he doesn't actually teach anything...so dont expect to learn much.

Pape has very little assigments, and I believe he bases your whole grade on the first essay turned in your particpation/attendance, as he never returned our other 3 essays. So turn something in for every assingment, but make sure your first paper is grea

Great class to fulfill pre-reqs. and improve GPA. Fun class, casual. Unpredictable, unorganized. Just in it for a paycheck. Movie buffs, book worms, and abstract thinkers will enjoy analyzing stories like BLADE RUNNER and TOTAL RECALL.

Took this class over the summer, and because he likes to slack off, you can too. Turned in all the papers late, but he didn't care. Easy A if your papers are good.

Best teacher! He helps his students excell in thier writting. HE allowws extra time if needed and he makes students look at things in a different light then other teachers. He may appear easy, but many get pisssed when they get their grade and it is not an A.

pape knows his literature and lots of history to go with it which is important and makes it very interesting, he takes the mind to places one would not expect, as a lit enthusiast he is excellent, organization, timeliness, expectations all suffer perhaps because of his artistic make-up, No Regrets

Pape is the coolest English teacher at this school the books arent too too boring and he grades really easy aslong as you turn in something for work he'll give you atleast a C, really nice teacher laid back, takes his time to get to class get him if his class isn't already full

A great Lit teacher. On first inspection organization is zilch and presentation may be slightly impromptu, but he’s truly a wealth of knowledge and can deliver deep and insightful discussions. Be a good student and you’ll get an A.

Put a least some effort into the essays, and you'll be fine. He has a tendency to not stick with the assignment schedule during the semester, so it's kind of confusing. But other than that, if you're just looking for the transferable units for English 1A, take him.

Pape is a awesome teacher. Totally down with youth. You feel like youre being taught by a student with intellect for english. Dyes his hair, ride a motorcycle, lives it up in Frisco. A totally downass dude.

He is the best COME ON we dont even do anything in class...sure i know his life story but what the hell id rather listen to him then talk about poetry.

Chill teacher, doesn't stress on due dates just wants you to do the work, which isn't much at all. Easy grader, nice guy, if you ask a question about the assignment he can answer it as good as any other teacher, I guess he believes he doesn't need to give so many assignments to get his lesson taught. Take him, if you can even get in his class.

Cool teacher. We watched a few movies, matrix, blue velvet, etc. Gets off topic once and while, but that keeps the class interesting. We talked about motorcycles for a while in class. He rides a R1 and commutes from frisco, pretty hardcore if you ask me. I came to class everyday, turned in all the assignments and got an A.

teaching college. I had a few years back and now taking Engl. 1B this semester with him again. His books thou, are really expensive. Check it out online or in the bookstore, you'll see. Anyone got his books for sale? Email me. :)

he was very easy going and was very helpful when i was gone for two weeks he let me make things up and answered all questions that i had made sure i was set and didnt miss out on anything, plus his grading was legititmate.

OMIGOD I LOVE THIS TEACHER. His class was super easy, interesting and he gives alot of slack. I just did the assignments which were not that many and he even did take home final. I took English 1A and IC the best descion i ever made in at that damn school. The first day he might sound boringish. But trust me you will grow to love this msn.

Mr. Pape is the greatest. He is really really easy, pretty funny, and makes you write like 2 essays. I never showed up to class and he did't care. Take him if you want to have a good time and get an easy "A"(I mean easy).

the best teacher i have ever had in my ENTIRE LIFE!!! I dont thing I have even read a Paragraph in any Book and Got a B+ SUPRISINGLY I learned a LOT... from videos in class! I looked forward to attending his class. he makes class time learning FUN!

Mr. Pape is an excellent Eng. Tchr. He is one size fits all. For the slackers he's tops. For those of us TRULY interested in learning, he is the best teacher I've ever had. He lays the responsibility to learn on YOU, where it belongs. If you really want to know your grade, he'll tell you, otherwise, relax and learn. He considers you an adult.

Really nice to work with, doesnt mind if you're late to class which is helpful if you work. :D Makes english interesting its based on true crimes, had to leave town for a week and let me do my essay while i was away & turned it in when i came back. I appreciate helpful teachers when life tries to kick you down. Great guy!

He's an smart and interesting guy, knowing a lot of fun stuff you can't find in texts. He teaches you what the real world may be look like. I learned tons of new things from his class. If possibly, I'd love to take all my English classes with him. This is the class I like the best in the college. And this is the only class where you can be relaxed.

this was very interesting, had him for 1a and wish i had him for 1b. his concentration is on crime which i think personally was very entertaining. only 3 or 4 essays in the entire semester, easy A and you dont even have to go to every class. take him

Mr. Pape is my favorite English teacher! He takes personal interest in the success of his students. He is very flexible. This semester we did like 10, 4 page min. essays, but they were easy. Fun teacher... I recommend.

Fun teacher. hardly makes you do work. Essays are fun. I took him for True Crime, he knows alot. talks about himself alot. Fun guy. LOVES motorcycles. Rode an R1. Pretty sweet. Educationally, you learn a tad. Its more of a fun class if you really get down to it.

I love him. I wish I had him for every English class. BEST PROFESSOR EVER. He actually made me want to come to class, and English is otherwise my least favorite subject.

hes an interesting character. his instructions are simple and the class atmosphere is pretty relaxed. the first day there were abunch of people on the waiting list and by the end of the semister the class was stil full. hes very personable but takes forever to get back papers.

He is the most awesome teacher alive! I loved his letcures and his open ideas. he is down to discuss anything and everything. If u want a great teacher who really knows what he's talking about and loves what he teaches u should take pape. He was very good with criticism and offered help whenever needed. I loved his class.

Pape is the best teacher I had so far in West Valley. His class is just fun to go to. He teaches what he needs to teach and then we just talk about so many different random things that just make the class fun to go to. He gives out homework once every two weeks so its real ease. Recommend him if you are looking for an easy lay back english class.

EASIEST CLASS EVERRRR. you don't even have to show up. There are only like 4 essays the entire semester which are 2 pages double spaced. No final, just a 5-7pg research paper, which is based on true crime. i loved the class, such an easy A, it brought up my GPA. HIGHLY RECOMENDED CLASS! but add EARLY AS POSSIBLE, it fills up fast due to high demand

Insane class. I loved it. Great class structure. Mr. Pape had good lectures that got off topic quickly. I learned an amazing amount about English. My friend boned him. I enjoyed the two text books. The movies we watched in class were awesome

Mr. Pape is one of the funniest and easiest teachers at west valley. I got an A with out really any efforet but he did have us really think about stuff. We also got to watch CSI and Law & Order. Take him if u want an easy A.

He actually makes it feel like a college class, highly individually run. Have to read the book or you will fail his tests. I took him for Engl 1A then came back for 70B and am now taking him for 1B. He gives good feedback especially in creative writing. He will help you if you come to him but he won't hold your hand through the class.

An awesome teacher, those who knock him are disturbing over-achiever types. I'm a great student, transferring out of West Valley this year to a private school... all on academic scholarship, but I can honestly say Pape's class was one of the most entertaining classes I've ever taken. Loosen up people.

First time I took this class at West Valley College. He is a great teacher. His books and movies are very interesting. I love this class. I recommend this class to everyone.

Mr. Pape is out of control, its awesome! He gives you the room to develop into yourself [if that makes any sense]. He's very open about things, which should open doors for plenty of ideas for writing. Great professor, highly recommended.

Good class with a True Crime focus. Pape is a very fair grader. If you explain your argument clearly and back it up, you should have no problem getting an A. Also, do EVERY essay. His grades are all averaged normally (i.e. X+X+X+X / 4, where X's are your essay scores). All essays are worth 100 points, so missing one will get you an F in the class.

A lot of fun, cool, but a lot of reading. I did learn a lot of really weird stuff though.

So much reading! And if you don't do it, you can't pass the class. But his lectures are the funniest thing @ WVC, and he really makes things funny.

I took him a couple of years ago. I thought he was cute, but kind of disorganized. Now, the only thing I remember about WVC are things he taught me. Excellent teacher! But you get what YOU put into his classes! Now I wish I had payed more attention.

Mr. Pape has a great sense of humor and made me interested In the lectures. I Have a better Interest in and ability to writE after takIng his class. Plus he is cute and dresses well.

BEST ENGLISH TEACHER AT WVC, HANDS DOWN. I used to hate writing essays, but the subject material he uses (Sci-Fi, Fantasty, and Horror) keeps me interested. He's really helpful and his lectures are always interesting. If you can get into his class, TAKE IT! Seriously look forward to this class.

Pape is crazy awesome! If you do all your essays then you're crystal. His grading system is straight forward - everything is averaged out. Very approachable and dresses well. Don't really use the textbooks much - but DEFINITELY get In Cold Blood. Enjoyed the class, definitely helped me with my writing.

Easiest teacher ever! Talk to him and he'll more than likely grade you very fairly. Can get distracted but thats what makes the class so much fun. A great relaxed class to take if you have a stressful semester going on.

I love Pape. He's like the ice cream flavor that seems like the easy choice but keeps giving so much damn flavor! Granted, he can be a little disorganized. I've had 3 classes with him and he offers so much to students in the ways of culture, writing, and base lit techniques for business majors. He's straightforward with kids and is an easy grader.

Does it get any easier for English 1B? He teaches nothing. There are about 5 essays you write. As long as you follow the directions, you will get an A. He shows a lot of interesting movies and the book has interesting stories. Highly recommended if you like an easy A.

Best English professor at West Valley. Teaches how to organize your writing and how to write a good essay. Further, teaches you about life through assigned stories and in class lectures. Very helpful in office hours. Best class I have taken in my entire schooling career, he taught me a lot about life and people.

I liked how this class had a true crime focus. You do about 5 essays total. Totally doable and not stressful. Take this class if you also like true crime.

Mr. Pape is a very good instructor. He may not look like a traditional instructor but he is just as knowledgeable. His class was interesting and the papers we had to do were tough but easy if you read the material. He is a very funny very helpful instructor. Tests are easy if you read and know the material. No extra credit. No pop quizzes. :)

Pape is super chill and an easy grader. About 5 essays for the year, one is research paper. He is super laid back. I'm not the best writer but would still receive 89% on my paper, which is considered an A in his class. I four overall grade is an 89%, he will bump it up to an A. He goes off on unrelated topics during lectures which is fun.

Pape is VERY laid back. He is really fun and loves to get off subject, I would say he spends 60% of class time off topic. He did a true crime theme for ENG1A which was fun and interesting. His class is weird but good! If you really don't know how to write and really want to learn, I wouldn't take him. His essays are more like creative writing.

I would recommend Pape if you aren't an English major because he doesn't give much criticism. Its an easy A class that may not turn you into an excellent writer, but you will still learn a ton and have fun along the way. Pape is laid back, hilarious, entertaining, and there for you if you need help with writing your paper. Very fun class!!!

Pape was an awesome teacher for Creative Writing! However, I think that his class was too easy. The only thing graded was our final, so as long as we turned it in we got an A. I actually wish I would've learned more in this class; there was not enough practice with writing fiction. Overall he's a wonderful teacher, but not if you want to improve.

This has to be the easiest English class I've ever taken in my life. You only show up and pass. If you hate English, take his class, but if you want to improve your writing skills, don't take him. A++ for easiness.

Professor Pape is extremely laid back. I personally enjoyed his personality and humor, although some might disagree. Even though I enjoyed his class, I do not think that my writing abilities have improved. He gives little feedback on essays and often they say the same things. When you ask for essay advice, he will say that it is up to you...

Easiest teacher ever. Have to do some reading, but they're all short stories. Pretty unorganized but that's fine for a chill class. Don't buy books until you need to read it, you might not have to get to it. He grades super easily. Interesting lectures, but sometimes not clear on how it's relevant to course material.

Pape is an amazing teacher and even better person. His classes are laid back but entertaining. If you want an A on your essays, you must prove yourself but he gives good feedback if you get to know him and visit him in his office hours. Overall, pretty easy class and would take again. Pape is the real deal.

When you sign up for him, the catalog says "R Pape." Only homework was essays, and we only had 4 over the course of the semester. He talks about all of the short stories which helps you write your essays! Wants you to succeed. Very easy grader. Most of class is discussing life stories and morals.

A very facetious figure. I think it makes the class very interesting when he talks about his life, discussing different topics, etc. Overall a fun class, however, I didn't like how he rushed the class at the end of the semester when 3 essays were sprung onto us. Despite that, he's a very fair grader. Write something and you will pass guaranteed.

Super easy class! Very easy going and has very few assignments. Attendance is NOT mandatory. His lectures are fun because he connects with the class and ends up talking about other stuff.

The class was really easy. Like chill. We would talk about random topics pretty much the entire class period. I just wasn't really sure what his grading style was because I received B's on all my essays but he didn't explain why. If you want an easy class, take him.

I loved this class! The course was only graded on the papers you wrote, but he's a fair grader with all of them and gives you the prompts at the beginning of the semester. Lectures were a mix of videos and a discussion about topics that somewhat related to the paper.

Pape is the chillest guy and easiest grader. Lectures often go off topic and aren't related to assignments. He doesn't do canvas/zoom well. We got behind schedule and only had a week for the final exam essay. He changed it from 7 pages to 4 pages and changed it from a book on the syllabus to ANY BOOK OR FILM OF OUR CHOICE. Easiest final exam ever.

love this man. his philosophy that he should not be the one to judge our creative writing is by far my favorite. you have to do the work, but as long as its complete you get an A

All of our work is essays and he grades pretty fairly. The topic is true crime so to me crime essays are easy to write about. He talks a-lot during lectures but if you don't mind that definitely take his class! He is a good teacher.

Just a relaxed teacher. Makes taking English a breeze for people who hate English courses. His assignments were always interesting and he graded generously.

This professor made me actually enjoy English Class, and I hated English Class from Kindergarten up until this class. He told fun stories during class and he also had assignments that I actually enjoyed writing about. I got to write an entire essay on my favorite sport and on unsolved murder cases, this class was amazing.

Very lecture-heavy classbut was clear he took time to get to know students and would go the extra mile when needed. The only work required in the class was the essays which were straightforward and very completable.

Instructor Eric combines clarity, passion, and a touch of humor in his teachings, making complex texts accessible and engaging. And, his respect for diverse perspectives enriches our discussions, making learning dynamic and stimulating. Students are mostly graded on their papers.

Eric is such a fun professor to take. He will go on tangents in class about unrelated things, but the few assignments don't make this an issue. He gives great feedback on essays and is always helpful when you go to him with a question. His grading is pretty relaxed, and he is flexible on deadlines if you go to him first. I loved this class.

Instructor Pape keeps ENG 1B structured yet engaging. His feedback is detailed and truly helps improve writing. He sets high standards but communicates expectations well. Discussions are thought-provoking, and his grading is fair. If you put in the effort, his class is rewarding. Definitely worth taking!

If you're a STEM major, this class is perfect, he's funny, an easy A, and highly manageable. The professor keeps lectures super light and funny, and there are only 3 essays due the entire semester, all graded easily if you ask for his advice. However, if you're looking to really improve your writing, this class definitely lacks structure and depth.
