Parsons is an amazing professor, he inspired me to minor in econ after taking his 1014 class. The tests were tough, requires thorough understanding of the material. Very fair grading and spread greatly. I enjoyed learning through him, but the class did challenge me. PRINT OUT HIS NOTES & bring them to lecture.
Knows his stuff, wants you to succeed. Since his class is not only taught by him, the other sections make the test kind of hard. His grading style is VERY generous. Learn to print his notes before lecture. Do the homework as it makes or breaks your grade.
Hard freshman level class. Don't stop taking notes after the first exam just because it was easy! It gets harder, much harder! The perk is that most people don't do well on the tests so there is usually a decent curve. I think the average grade for the class at the end of the semester was a low 70, so don't blow this class off.
Great professor for a challenging course. Definitely have to go to class and make sure you know what you're doing. He keeps lectures interesting and is honestly probably one of my favorite professors I've had as a freshman. If you want to do well, go to class.
This is a really hard freshman level course. I highly recommend attending every class, something I didn't do, and taking notes on everything. Concepts evolve and become harder and harder as the semester passes. Parsons and the TA's are always willing to check work, take advantage of that. Ask questions before you get in too deep.
Good professor, he explains the concepts clearly. Print the notes before you go and be mindful of homework due dates. There's only a few assignments and they are not accepted late. Go to class. It's not that hard if you go and pay attention.
He's alright, the class is pretty rough.
I think Dr. Parsons was a great teacher. In a large lecture hall, he still tried to make sure everyone understood the concepts. Take advantage of his office hours, along with the TA office hours. They are always willing to help and explain.
Econ is naturally a hard class, but Prof. Parsons explains it in terms that most people would understand. He posts quizzes and tests online for study use, as well as many other resources. Depending on the class he curves it as well. I had a 60 but that was considered a solid C. If you put in the work you will get results. Overall a great teacher
The course material can be very hard, but he tries his best to make it as simple as possible, and for me I understood it perfectly. Some of his tests were super crazy hard but you get a whole sheet of notes front and back to use. The curve is huge. In my class at the end an A- was an 82% and a B- was a 65%
Dude was alright but the exams were usually barely based on the stuff learned in class.
Parsons is a great teacher. If you go to class, print out the powerpoint slides before and listen you shouldn't have a problem. He isn't boring and he is open to questions. If you still feel like you are struggling, I would suggest you go to tutoring. That has helped me the most.
You're going to need to be there to get credit for attendance, which is like the only way you will pass
Econ is a hard in general. Dr. Parsons did a good job at keeping the class interesting and tried to make things as simple as possible. He does give homework, I recommend going to TA office hours or his office hours to get help. Go to class because there are easy clicker points that will help your grade!
Really good professor. Hard topics to teach but he teaches it to his best ability. Make sure you go to every lecture as attendance counts towards final grade. Do Homework within 48 hours of learning a topic. But overall my favorite professor. He also throws in some jokes that I found to be pretty funny. Grade is curved a lot.
Professor Parsons was an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and how they are doing in the class. Take advantage of the study sessions that the success center has- go do homework there to understand the concepts. Take advantage of office hours and TA hours. Go to class!!! Clicker points are easy points. Tests are like homework.
He's the only Micro prof so ur kind of stuck with him. People say hes awful but in reality he is just so intelligent about Econ that sometimes hecan be too smart for a 1000 level course. But GO TO CLASS. Attendance & participation are huge for the class. The tests are based heavily on the lectures so go to class & pay attention and you'll do well.
Loved Prof Parsons, he made econ easy to understand. ALWAYS print off the notes and fill them out in class as he presents, will make or break your grade. Do the sample exams and understand how you got the answers.
Parsons class is lecture heavy, and the homework and tests are based off his lectures, so it is important to attend class. He does a very good job explaining the concepts of the subjects and uses good examples to help you understand the topic. Overall, he is a great professor and would of done poorly in this class if he hadn't of taught it.
Although the class was tough, He was a great professor!
Professor Parsons is great, and he wants his students to do well. There was a pretty generous curve due to the subject's difficulty for many students. Read the chapters of the book before lectures, use the book AND the PowerPoints when making test notes, and do plenty of practice problems to succeed in the class.
The class was tough and based off of just multiple choice, however he was a great teacher. He made the content understandable and he was very approachable.
idk man, its only the second week of school but ,the class got canceled, and this guy posted the lecture online!!! instead of giving us the lecture next time we were scheduleded to have class. Seems extremely overkill
This is a tough class, but it is do able. Parsons in a good teacher, but lectures heavy.
Not an easy class, but Parsons is a great professor. He gives you all the resources possible to do well on the tests (which are 80% of your grade). Only drawback is that he requires attendance, so people who don't want to be there talk the whole time. Overall, he's very good at lecturing and does a great job of preparing you.
As a junior accounting student, I can say that Parsons is the best professor I have ever had. His class is very hard, but he gives you all the resources to be successful. I had trouble paying attention so I would re-watch his lectures on line, and everything on his tests come from lectures. He can explain complex ideas in such simple ways
By far the best professor I've ever had. Helped me fall in love with economics and I eventually made it my major. Uses real world examples to relate to the content to make it interesting. Do not take him for granted! I transferred to a so called "better school" after fr year and the level at which he teaches economics at is nowhere to be found.
Really smart guy the class is hard but he is the best professor for it. Go to class and do the reef questions, don't forget to post to packback, and do the homework yourself!!
Parsons is a cool guy and is funny in class. He makes you work for your grade, but if you put in the effort it really isn't bad. But DO NOT SKIP CLASS. It's lecture heavy. You can't skate by with just the reading, and he explains stuff in class better than the book. So 10/10 Parsons is a real king
Dr. Parsons is easily one of the best teachers I've had. He truly cares about what he's teaching and it makes his lectures more interesting. He is pretty invested in student success and his exam reviews were always so helpful. While you weren't required to attend class bc of COVID, it was always a good idea to show up.
Honestly, Parsons was a great teacher in my opinion. He is an enthusiastic and caring professor that really shows it through his lectures. I will say that his tests are lecture heavy, slightly book heavy, and requires you to study hard. My advice is to go to TA hours or tutoring hours, those helped me tremendously. Remember to stay motivated!
Absolutely outstanding professor! He was able to take concepts and ideas that we often throw around in the news and get into depth about how to calculate and determine results using graphs and charts. His teaching was so enthusiastic that he convinced me to switch to Econ/Statistics!
I took ECON_1014 over the summer online. It was hard. Really hard. But I also wasn't a great student. As long as you stay up on everything, watch all the lectures, and ask questions when needed, you'll be alright. This was my first university class and though it was really challenging, I got a lot out of it. Would recommend.
Many people are intimidated by Economics. It's generally not a fun class. That being said, Parsons is the GOAT. He is an incredible professor that can makeup for the bad course content. I wouldn't take ECON with anyone else.
Dr. Parsons is a solid choice for ECON1014. The course was hard but he ensures that students are always on track and provides good feedback. Be wary of time management though, as you have tons of homework due and late submissions are not accepted for any reason, however, he does drop your 3 lowest HW grades at the end of the semester.
The rest of these reviews are on point. Dr. Parsons is the reason I switched to Econ as my major. His lectures are easy to listen to and he explains concepts extremely well. He tells you exactly how to succeed in his class; its just a matter of you putting the time in. Phenomenal prof.
Micro Econ is a challenging course but you can definitely do well if you put the time in. Prof Parsons makes things clear to understand and gives interesting lectures. The grading system is set up to where you don't have to get A's on the exams to still do well in the class. Would definitely recommend Prof Parsons.
great teacher. very passionate about the subject. He gives great examples in class. Lectures are very helpful. Gives tips from past students who did well to help us in the class. There is a good amount of homework, but it is not hard. This teacher really wants you to succeed so as long as you do the work, you will pass. he understands Econ is hard.
He truly wants you to pass. Challenging class but will help you do well.
Very clear when lecturing. Obvious that he knows the material extremely well as he doesn't take more than a glance before teaching the whole slide and then some. Doing the homework is the best way to prepare for the exam as well as the practice tests. Pay attention and you will learn. Parsons is the most efficient professor I have ever had.
Eric Parsons is a solid choice when taking 1014. Make sure you take the time to study for the exam, he allows a full sized front and back cheat sheet but still study. His lectures are pretty interesting and he's a cool guy in all honesty. Reading the book really helps you understand the bigger picture.
Eric Parsons has taught economics since the beginning of time and knows microeconomics like the palm of his hand. The textbook isn't necessary as long as you come to class and pay attention to the lectures. Do the homework yourself as it is the most accurate gauge for how you will do on the midterm and final exams.
parsons was the most chill and relaxed professor. class was simple and i was never surprised by anything. same 3-4 assignments due every friday and exams were 30 multiple choice questions. i failed the first exam and still managed a B+ cause hw and exams are weighed pretty fairly. wouldnt say all lectures r necessary. no worries if ur taking this.
Great professor who explains things well and doesn't make it seem horrible at all. Made econ somewhat easy to understand.
He provides enough homework for people to understand the content of them subject. Also he provides external links for learning more about the subject. His lectures are well organized and he has the mentality of wanting his classmates to succeed.
This guy is the best professor I've had so far at Mizzou. He loads his lectures full of so much useful stuff, and really cares about you learning about economics. He structures his class so you don't have you to worry about your grade. The evening exams and lots of assignments sucked, but he is really good. Definitely recommend for any class.
He was by far my favorite professor. He makes the lectures really interesting and keeps everyone engaged. He wants everyone to succeed and makes it very difficult if not impossible to fail the class. Would take his class any day.
Dr. Parsons was easily one of my favorite professors last semester. He explained every concept thoroughly, has detailed PowerPoint slides, and has a good sense of humor. He also posts all the lectures on Panopto, so if you ever miss a lecture you can catch up easily. Homework is a breeze, and the tests are worth a small portion of the grade.
Professor Parsons is amazing. He makes the lectures interesting and informative. Go to class, do the homework, and put some effort in before the exams and you will do good. There are also extra credit opportunities that can boost your grade quite a bit.
I really liked Dr. Parsons's class. He explained everything in an understandable way but still made it interesting by pulling in real-world examples.
This is by far the best professor I have had at mizzou. Explains Econ concepts really well and makes you feel really smart. He is super inspirational and encouraging and he has even caused me to change my major to Econ. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU GET A CHANCE! 10000/10 <3 all good vibes
This man is the best professor. Truly respects his students and does his best to accommodate to our needs. Deserves more recognition as an outstanding professor at Mizzou
Dr. Parsons is a rare professor that really cares about his students. His lectures are entertaining and he connects with the class. Show up and do the I-Clicker questions and you will get an A no problem.
I had Dr Parsons last semester in the fall, and he's the reason I considered double majoring in econ. He teaches you *everything* you need for the test, lets you bring in a cheat sheet with whatever you want on it, and is extremely generous with the grading curve. You'll do well if you remotely care to put in the effort
Amazing Professor, he is a veteran professor and is prepared for everything. The homework prepares you for the exams and take time getting your cheat sheet ready.
Has a clear syllabus, and the class is by no means easy, but if you are willing to put in the work you can get an A. Parsons is a passionate professor, and he is willing to help you get there. If there are circumstances and you email him, he will help you through them.
Professor Parsons was an amazing Professor, the tests were always very difficult however. If you keep up with the homework, the test grades don't matter as much.
Parsons is a really great professor. His lectures are engaging and entertaining. He does a really good job explaining concepts, both simple and complex, so that everyone understands them. Attendance isn't mandatory, but a 60% iClicker score means you don't have to take the final. He uses a textbook, but nobody ever read it. Overall very easy.
Professor Parsons is an awesome professor. He cares for his students and relates to them much better than other professors. His lectures are interesting and he makes somewhat tricky content easy to understand. Easily one of the greatest profs I'll ever have
Parson was a great professor! He was very engaging for the most part and really seemed to care about economics in general. Participation matters in this class only because there are iClicker questions during each lecture and if you get a 60% accuracy score on those throughout the semester, you don't have to take the final. Fairly straight forward!
The class itself was hard, but he does a really good job of explaining topics during lecture. Also, if your iclicker score is above 60% then you dont have to take the final
Eric Parsons was a great professor! Make sure you go to class! If you get a 60% on your iclicker score, you don't have to take the final. There was a decent amount of homework, so make sure to utilize your cheat sheet for exams. There are also quite a few extra credit opportunities.
As a STEM major, absolutely LOVED this class. Dr.Parsons makes his lectures very engaging, got a few laughs this semester, and overall teaches like he loves his job. Attendance really isn't mandatory but highly recommend attending because it is definitely an enjoyable class.
Great professor! His lecture style is very approachable, and he is understanding of student's obligations outside of him class. You'll be fine if you show up to every class!
Parsons was a great prof. He is very approachable and teaches as if he really wants his students to digest the material. Make sure to go to class and get that 60% iclicker so you don't have to take the final. Utilize that cheat sheet; just because he's a great instructor doesn't mean the class isn't hard. Plenty of extra credit opportunities too.
be ready to study for hours and still fail the tests. the test material is different than old tests and what is taught in class. pay attention in lecture and you can get out of the final.
Weekly assignments and hard exams, but homework is weighted more than your exams. I probably averaged 60% on exams and ended with an A. Gives a cheat sheet on exams, but it's advised to focus more on the content and focus on graphs than stacking your cheat sheet. Does iClicker so attendance is mandatory for grade. Go to Tiger Tutors!
Professor Parsons is a great professor for microeconmics. I failed the exams and still did the iClickers and discussions, homework and passed with a B. Tiger Tutors is super helpful. Was forced to take this class but went much better than expected
Eric is a nice guy, but overall, he is lecture-heavy and has a good amount of clicker. Tests are hard but only worth 40% of the grade.
I have zero interest in econ but I enjoy this class. He encourages people to explore econ as a major or double major and gives you every resource to succeed in his class. The tests are tricky, but only worth 40% of your grade so it's not hard to pass. Professor Parsons is the goat at MU.
Part 1: Eric Parsons is my favorite professor I have taken at Mizzou so far and it will probably stay that way for a while. His insanely powerful lectures keep me waiting impatiently for the next one. Every 5 minutes, Eric not only introduces a new idea but also summarizes the entire unit and curriculum with constant previous chapter callbacks.
Part 2: At first, I thought ECON 1014 would be boring. Sometimes I don't give a LICK of attention, but every 10 minutes I'll listen in and understand the meaning of life. I wish this class was a prerequisite for itself, so I would get to take it every semester. You know what? He is definitely the greatest teacher of all time. THE GOOOOOATTTT🐐🐐🐐
He was awesome
Parson's lectures were always clear and super informative. He makes learning economics fun and interesting. For a degree requirement, I absolutely loved this class. Very exam heavy. GO TO CLASS. If your participation is high enough, you can skip the final.
Good lectures and loved him as a professor. Exams are hard and class averaged like 50% every time, but still ended with an A/B. Pay attention from the beginning!
Great professor. Also lots of access to help with office hours and TA hours. I would recommend going to those anytime you don't understand something. The exams are fairly difficult, so study in advance. Take notes during lectures. He allows cheat sheets as well on the exams which is very helpful.
Great lectures
Professor Parsons was an amazing professor, he kept lectures extremely informative and gave lots of examples. As long as you attend lectures, keep up with the homework and study a bit, it's an easy A. He also has a sense of humor that keeps lectures entertaining. There are also cheat sheets for every exam!
Great professor and fantastic class! Parsons was the reason I decided to double major in Econ. Make sure to attend lecture and get those iclicker points so you don't have to take the final. The material can be difficult at times, but everything you need to know is in the lectures, SO GO!
So nice, if you attend enough classes you don't have to take the final
Great proffesor
love Eric. he is a king and is really passionate about Econ. gives good examples that a help make info real world applicable helping material make sense in grand picture
loved this class! great lectures and very clear instruction. If you have to take econ 1014, try and get eric parsons. Just do the homework and show up to lecture, the material is intuitive and he is a great professor.
Very good.
Literally the best professors and nicest guy- I didn't even need like Economics but he made it so easy
