Some of the papers have to be kind of long but the topics can be easy to write about. He also offers a lot of extra credit. Just dont be late or absent a lot and NEVER argue with him about Bush or wal-mart. Lots of opportunity for an "A".

Professor Plattner is seriously the greatest teacher I've ever had! I'm only a freshman, but he's a great teacher. He challenged my writing abilities with difficult topics, but this only helped me become a better writer. He truly did care about his students to. We met on a weekly basis to discuss papers, and always gave ideas or suggestions.

Awesome professor. I learned so much from him, and not just stuff about English. Meets with you for every paper, and will sometimes even write for you when you get stuck. I had Eric Plattner for the FYAS summer program. He was extremely intelligent and overall a wonderful professor. I actually looked forward to the class. He primarily grades you on what you did right rather than what you did wrong. I am so lucky that I had him as a teacher.

The class was pretty eye-opening for me. From the first day you can tell that he's going to challenge you on everything. It might be a pain in the ass the first week or two but it pays off big time. Hands down, the best professor I've ever had. He's a mad genius with a unique sense of humor and I'm not bothered by the fact that he wears the same Paul shirt every day. You will not find a more concrete grader and evaluator than Mr. Plattner. Gives a safety net of a B if you're active, do the readings and see him outside of class for the projects. Your grade depends solely on you since there is no room for him to improveworsen it; he will, however, offer great feedback and comments for your work.

AWESOME! Your writing is all turned in online. You have about 1-2 readings per week with a small reflection. Participate and show up, and you won't have an issue. He is an amazing person and really helps develop writing while leaving the creative process to his students. You meet with him once a week to discuss current projects. Best professor.

It's very possible that Eric Plattner saved me from dropping out my freshman year. I was having some familyemotional issues that effected my school work and Eric went above and beyond to help me through it. If you're willing to put in the effort your writing skills will greatly improve.

I cannot name another professor who has made me feel more at home and more comfortable with the freshmen college experience than Eric has. I love love loved his class, and though I had a lot of personal issues arise during the semester, he helped me get through them through one to one meetings. A great man and a great teacher. I hated Plattner at first. I wanted to drop his class the very first day. But I stuck with him and he actually ended up being my favorite professor and I really looked forward to our weekly meetings. My favorite professor by far. I normally don't care for academic classes (thus why I am an art major) but he made my 9:45 am class worth waking up for! Loaded with energy. One of his requirements is that you meet with him 1:1 once a week! He obviously cares for his students. Not very clear on assignments but very optimistic when grading them.

I took this class at 8am, and he made it worth coming. I only missed class once, and I felt like I had missed out. Plattner threw me off at first, and I hated his class. He wants you to write as if everything you have learned about writing doesn't apply anymore. BUT TRUST HIS PROCESS! I am a 10x better writer from his class and I admire how he cares for his students and truly wants them to succeed and will do whatever it takes to help them if they are willing.

Eric Plattner was my first experience with DePaul professors and I couldn't have asked for a better one. He's very cynical and uses a lot of dry humor. He puts a lot of emphasis on individualism and if you stay true to yourself in your writing his class is an easy A.

He's very weird. it's fun to laugh at the weird things he does

Platt helped me be more confident in my writing & always encouraged me to not be afraid to sound like myself & say what I wanted to say. I really appreciated the one-on-one meetings & he treated me like an actual writer. By far one of the more engaging classes I took!

My favorite prof, I've had so far bar none. The first instructor to make me feel like an adult and it feels like he actually cares about the student's development as writers as opposed to just grades. Assignments are told during the first class and you get a lot of time to prepare. Also one of the most hilarious people I've met.

Truly the best professor you can find. He inspires you to become a better writer and write the way YOU want rather than how the education system wants. His assignments allow you to be creative and really think. If you enjoy creativity in writing, you should definitely take him.

Just finishing my 2nd quarter with Platt and I've grown so much as a writer and reader. He encouraged me to explore my own thoughts & not just write the typical stiff thesis paper. He meets with you every week over your work and as long as you make those, do the readings and show up to class you'll be golden. He helped me find my voice.

I thought he was INSANE at first. He sends emails like he's your clingy best friend and is very intense at first. It might be since I was online for first two weeks of winter quarter. He grew on me over the 10 weeks and now I see him as a loving uncle. This dude is amazing and is a HUMAN first, TEACHER second kinda guy. You will learn so much.

This guy is so funky and cool and fun and it was such a pleasure to take his class. He has loose grading rules because he truly wants you to explore your creativity. I wrote about the coolest topics and had a wonderful time. Highly recommend this dude.

This was a highly enjoyable class to take. Very out-of-the-box way of teaching, cares genuinely about student success, less about the grade and more about the actual learning taking place. Never once makes you feel bad about something you wrote, even if you think it was horrible; instead gives valuable insight on how to make it even better.

Professor Plattner is one of my favorite teachers so far while being at DePaul. You can tell he cares about you learning the material and helping. I felt by far challenged in this class and grateful because even if I was pulling my hair for this course I could see my writing improvements. He genuinly wants his students to succeed.

Easily one of my favorite professors. Loves the material and teachers with passion and great guidance. Look forward to taking him again.

This class changed how I saw writing, which helped me a ton in my other classes too. We spent 99% of our time discussing readings, ideas, & our own work. Now I feel like I'm the one making choices in my essays. So glad I had Platt for my first writing class at DePaul

Great Professor, lectures are always engaging, really helpful during individual meetings, definitely makes the class much more interesting. I am a horrible procrastinator and having those weekly meetings made me much more responsible with getting my work done in a timely manner.

Platt is very helpful and doesn't make you feel like an idiot when you ask questions. really passionate for what he does and volunteers his time for help outside of class! Def the best English teacher i've ever had!!

Platt was one of the greatest professors I've ever had. He cares. A lot. He lets me write about what I'm passionate about. He helps build a foundation for my papers. He lets me think. Loved his grading system. It made me motivated to actually work. His lectures are fun. He gets to know everyone. If you have the chance, please take his class!!

Probably the coolest professor I've ever had. Bro is so chill and grades on a contract that is super easy to fulfill. Weekly meetings with him were required but very helpful and I learned a lot from him. Would totally grab a beer with him and discuss life sometime

You will not be bored in the class. He can talk for hours but he is super funny. He is very specific on how he likes things but he helps you through everything because you have to do meetings outside of class

Professor Plattner was excellent! He always made me feel capable as a student and that really boosted my confidence in a classroom setting as well as a writer. He consistently went above and beyond to make himself available to help us improve our writing through the weekly meetings. I am very grateful to have had him during my first year

one of the best profs i've ever had! he comes off a bit intense at first, but he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. (weekly one-on-one feedback meetings and responds to emails quickly!) if you're willing to step out of your writing comfort zone and apply yourself, you'll do great.

I love Plattner more than anything. Take him if you can, he'll change the way you think and write for the better. Medium challenging, but I enjoyed that aspect as it was very engaging and I actually felt like I was learning and growing. Obviously writing and reading heavy, but nothing that feels useless

One of my favorite classes! I loved going because not only was Professor a great teacher but he made all of our work fun and interesting. If we needed extra help for papers he'd have a sign up sheet for meetings that were extremely helpful. He showed us that he really cared about our education. He taught us a lot of things I'll carry on to WRD 103.

Platt is the best prof I have ever had. I was struggling severely with multiple mental health issues while taking his class and he worked with me every step of the way to ensure my success. His feedback is amazing, and his lectures are engaging no matter the topic. You can tell he truly cares about every one of his students, just amazing overall!

Excellent teacher. REALLY broke down the process, instead of doing the same old, same old that's been pounded into my brain, and why I've never been able to beat that last hurdle of actually enjoying writing. Always seemed like a chore. Platt made it fun.

Plattner was great. I was a junior taking WRD 104 late and he taught me a lot about exploratory writing. If you put effort and legitimate passionate thought into your work, instead of what you thought the professor just wanted to hear, you gained a lot. Also the conferences were immensely helpful. Would definitely recommend!

Professor Eric made the class more enjoyable and it was more than just learning about the course materials. He motivated me to write more and become more confident in what I'm writing. I'd love to take wrd 104 with him.

Eric Plattner is truly what I expect out of a professor at a school of higher learning. Really cares about what his assignments mean as the greater part of a whole. Also cares about his students. Nothing is half assed in his class. Wish I could take more classes with this professor.

One of my favorite parts of this course and professor were the weekly meetings. It wasn't a huge time commitment, but it was nice to constantly get feedback and help throughout the writing process. This was the first professor I've had that really made a huge commitment to be available outside of class. I wish all my professors could be like this.

He can be very intense at times. He is not for everyone but if you enjoy participating in class and having a good relationship with your professors, he's great. He cares a lot about his students and wants the best for their writing. You also have to meet with him once a week outside of class.

Professor Plattner is hilarious and very eccentric, which made 8am WRD 103 a little more bearable. He also meets with his students as if we all attended a small liberal arts school where the students receive more attention from professors, which really enriches our learning experience and really helped and removed my fear of writing

This is the best professor I have ever had in my life. He seems intense in the first few classes, but then he calms down. I think he might be a genius. Actually willingly came to came to class every day. Eric Plattner I love you.

The most important part of the class are the outside the class 121's. He can be very intense, true but he does meet with you outside the class and the meetings are mandatory

I really enjoyed this class. I learned how to get out of that dumb cocoon my other English classes trapped me in which means I can enjoy writing again! You're an awesome teacher who really invested your time in helping us grow as readers and writers--thanks!!

It is simple to get an A if you follow the contract! In class Plattner is very intense sometimes but he does meet with you outside class. Everybody has to attend the one on ones with him which are not during class or in the classroom

Plattner is not like any professor I ever had. His teaching style is rebellious...but in a good way. He forces you to approach and perceive the world from perspectives that are present in academia but rarely encouraged. The most important thing I learned was to not be afraid to express myself in my own way. He taught me a lot about myself.

I'm a 5th yr senior at DePaul and this class because of the instructors methods and earnest interest has made me a more effective writer and rhetorician despite my reservations that this course was going to be a droll "easy A" requirement. It was absolutely not that and I thank Plattner for this unexpected and constructive experience.

The best writing class I've ever taken. Plattner is not a normal English teacher in the best way possible, and he completely breaks down and reconstructs the method of writing you're used to. I've never been more motivated to write! Incredibly transparent about the grading process, and he gives you every opportunity to learn and change.

Plattner was by far one of the best english professors- he knew we came in from our high schools and wrote like robots to how they wanted. But, he let us write freely and in ur own voice and I really think I found my writing style because of this class. Just show up and be passionate about your writing and you'll pass with a B or better I guarantee

I love Plattner's style of teaching. It provides a freedom that I've never received before. The conferences were immensely helpful. It was so great to get feedback as I worked rather than after I had finished the work. He is by far one of the best writing teachers. I have never been more influenced by any one teacher.

Gr8 guy, awesome professor. Really cares about each students development. I have only had two other teachers that have been so dedicated to their students. It is a special feeling to know that an educator cares about you as a human being, and sees your potential and helps foster your growth.

Definitely a character that takes getting used to. Very transparent. Gives you an easy outline on how to do good in his class. Very accessible outside of class and gives great feedback that actually helps you improve your writing.

I would 100% take him again. Participation was mandatory. After 3, you will automatically get a C. Most of the grades come from the midterm and final portfolio. Amazing prof, he was very caring, I hope he returns to teaching.
