Hard Grader but lets you know what's on the tests.
Corney jokes!!
Let's you know what's on the tests...Can be boring but let's you work in groups
tells you exactly what's on the test. no papers, at least not for intersession.
good guy. good class. gets the job done.

not a hard teacher. boring at times, but attempts at humor were funny
Bottom Line: Plumer rocks my world. My favorite teacher at the U!
If you ask questions and seem interested there are no quizzes and one paper which is very easy to write, so it shoul be an easy A
Not preachy at all. He makes the bible as interesting as it posssibly can be. Group work is pretty cool. Class isnt a breeze, can be a tough grader, but he tells you what'll be on the tests. His jokes are corny, but he's funny anyway - HIGHLY recommended.
Great Prof. Just participate in discussions and think.
Not too boring, doesnt preach, makes funny cracks about the subject matter, really good
after countless years of catholic education, this is by far the best theology teacher i have ever had. he is great and obviously very well educated. just show him you're not just sitting there. group work, good test prep. plumer gets an A+
easy class
Very boring, but easy. only gives a few papers and thats your grade. The topics of the papers are unclear but if you talk to him he'll help you
very easy teacher, only gives a few papers and a final.
what is with these ratings. He's so boring how did he even get a job, and he's a tough grader... i feel bad for you people if u seriously say u enjoyed his class
This guy knows his bible, you better too if you want to do well on his papers.
easy teacher. just have some type of knowledge of the bible and the english language.
he's a harsh grader and very close minded...his class isn't that bad...he really knows what he's talking about though...nice guy...
I think he is a great teacher. I also think he was very open minded. He was willing to listen to everyone's point of view and give you a chance. He also made class fun and interesting. That was the main reason I took him for both classes.
i dont get these ratings - the man is so boring, can make you feel so stupid and the class is just painful. not the worst, but far from the best
what's with the guy saying "what's with these ratings?" im guessing u probably didnt show up for class and put no effort whatsoever. this man was a little boring, yes, but easy grader and helpful, disc. every class. seriously people need to s
He can be very picky in his essay questions. He likes to have his question blatantly repeated in an answer form. For a doctor in theology, he sure does have a hard time about picking out the right answer. Other than that you don't do much in class.
lectures are dry and confusing, but overall, its an easy class
Very knowledgeable man. Always willing to help. Would definately take a class by him again.
very nice guy! doesn't give many tests and if he does they are essays...can b boring sometimes but over-all is an awesome teacher!!! def take him!
Can be very smug and unwelcoming to ideas other than his. Boring guy, who you can tell has no life other than his mother. Class is easy, just take some notes and the rest is group work. A hard A to get, but you should get nothing lower than a B.
Fantastic! I wish I had him for all my courses.
I had a crush on him, which affected my ability to concentrate. Otherwise, I learned a lot.

Great teacher, classes are kinda boring but such an easier grader, very funny guy
great teacher who knows alot. classes get a little boring but group work helps move it along. hes a funny guy who means well and doesnt want to see his students do poorly. i've learned alot from him and much of the material has tied in with my other, non theology related courses
Dr Plumer is awesome! His class is a lot of work but if you study you will get good grades. Take his class if you can!
plumer is very scary and hard at first but he turns out 2 be extremely easy...just do the readings and write down every single word he says when he gives ne answer 2 his essays and u'll do fine...he gives surprise quizzes so beware!!
I liked Dr. Plumer very much during Summer session I. I appreciated how it was just a study of the Bible, not pushing any catholic beliefs, and also uncovering a lot of faults with religion. However, some others thought his grading was unfair, especially those in Dexter Hanely.
Very, very boring!
class was very boring but if you stick through it and write down everything he says (to stay awake) he loves essays of what he said in class. Pretty easy grader!
Dr. Plumer is so adorable and helpful but a bit confusing sometimes. I would take another class with him.
you have to take this class and dr. plumer is a nice guy
He can be funny sometimes and wierd other times. He is not a bad guy, class is not that boring he likes to have discussions to clear up what you read, and he just likes to have disscusion. Some videos now and then, and his quizes and tests are easy. He will tell you what he wants for answers.
Dr. P is cool. He has a strange sense of humor. Pretty easy grader and like discussion.
Nice guy and quite knowledgeable, however he is also a terrible professor with no concept of how a classroom should be run. Asks questions on things he never taught and makes fun of you for not knowing the answers. Tests had nothing to do with what we learned in class. Not the best choice in the department.
can be confusing and a little wierd at times, but in general its not that bad...loves discussion groups..tests werent that bad, just study your notes and you will do ok
Really nice, sweet man, dry sense of humor but tests are ridiculous. Extremely picky; if you don't put word for word EXACTLY what he wants for answers, say goodbye to your points. Don't try to word it your own way, it won't fly. Big on group discussion.
Dr. Plumer LOVES CATS and HIS NEW BOOK... He is easy but not that easy He gives you the essay quest before the exam but you have to know 1 or 2 essays for the exam. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE GOOD NOTES his notes ARE THE ESSAYS and if you can have him read your essays then you are GOLDEN. Thats how i got an A!
Dr. Plumer is very....unique. His class is a little strange, and sometimes I'm not quite sure why we were learning about certain things. Not the easiest tests, but I should get an A with not a lot of effort. He is not the best teacher, but probably your best bet for THEO II. Don't take olsen
Plumer is the MAN. He's a bit confusing at times, but his class isn't too hard. Just study the notes because it's the test.
Probably your best bet for theo II. Compared to my friends i didn't have a lot of work, just reading maybe a chapter a class. Test questions are ok. I put exactly what he told us and always got low 80's. Also volunteered in class and ended with a b- so a little confused about that. Interesting topics though, class went by quick.
This has by far been my most dreaded class so far at the U. He is so cocky and not helpful at all. His class is interesting but if you strive to get above a B I wouldn't take him because I think it's next to impossible to get higher than that unless your last name is Plumer. Sometimes I think HE doesn't even know the answers he wants.
Might just be the easiest option for theo2, which is why I took him, but he is veryyy closed-minded so just learn his opinions for the tests and you'll be fine. I got an A, but I think everything he said was wrong.
The questions he asks are really ambiguous and specific. But the exams are really easy as long as you follow the study guides.
Not that much homework, which is a plus. However, classes were uncomfortable and he liked to put people on the spot especially if you didn't have the textbook. His tests are short, but you need to write exactly what he says, which can be impossible. The topics are a joke, you talk about Newton and the rhythm method all semester, whatever that is.
Dr.Plumer's class at first may seem intimating but it's not bad. Didn't have much work which I enjoyed, his tests are a little tricky but talk to him beforehand and he will help clarify what he's looking for. Overall, good teacher! Don't listen to the comments below!!
Plumer is the best. He gives you the questions before the test. If you ask for help, he will show you exactly what hes looking for. He really took time to get to know me, and he's so funny. Just do what you're supposed to do and you'll do great in the class!
He can be rather scary and if you don't lie being put on the spot, I wouldn't take him. But, he picks interesting topics, although random, and likes class discussion. He likes things word for word on the test which can suck but it's not bad. I wouldn't go out of my way to get him but if you do, it's not the end of the world.
He has an attitude problem and will degrade the class if you don't know an answer which happens all the time since his questions are so specific and weird. He is very full of himself and I wanted to punch him every class because he's so damn annoying. I wouldn't take him.
This class was a joke. He picks the most random topics and you have no idea why you're studying certain things that have nothing to do with the curriculum. He loves calling people out and tends to pick a few people to torture for the entire semester. Wasn't that hard, but very annoying. I wouldn't take this class.
He is your best pick for theology 2. He starts off being really intimidating and hard but it ends up being your easiest class- no outside work and tests/quizzes are a joke. Take this class.
His class is a joke- you do absolutely nothing all semester. He'll act intimidating sometimes but he's not.. it's just his sense of humor. Tests are a joke considering you have the questions ahead of time along with the answers he tells you to put for those questions- they're usually only 3 short answer questions. The topics you cover are weird.
Plumer is..interesting. He's very funny and actually made the class extremely interesting. His teaching methods were weird but the man will teach you stuff. Tests weren't bad..you just need to write down what he says word for word. Overall, HIGHLY recommend
He is great. Didn't have much work, and he gives you the essay questions before the test. You need to put down exactly what he says since he grades them hard. A tough A to get but a B is reasonable
Do not be intimidated by Plumer the first class because it turns out to be extremely easy. I loved this class- you literally have no work all semester. Some of the classes will bore you to tears and others are extremely easy depends on the day. Oh and he gives you the questions BEFORE the test so it's completely your fault if you don't do well.
Terrible. His tests seem easy but if you do not write word for word what he has in his notes (which he doesn't use in lecture) you lose random points. I regurgitated everything he said in class because he tells you the essays, but I averaged around a B on every exam - which was considered good. Got a B- overall which pulled my GPA down; DO NOT TAKE
After taking this course I still reflect back and realize that I learned absolutely nothing. Plumer can be quite condescending especially when a student does not know the answer. His tests are not too awful because he gives you the questions in advance. However, missing a single piece of the answer takes away from the grade substantially.
Make sure you read before every class because the readings are what he bases his lectures off. He does boost your grade up if you participate in class. Tests are easy and he gives the questions in advance just make sure you pay attention on review day. Overall good teacher and would take him again
Dr. Plumer is a great theology professor! He is extremely funny and loves what he teaches! Try to read or at least have an understanding of what you were supposed to read before class and definitely participate! On review day he gives you all the possible test questions and answers so take detailed notes and you will do great! Take Plumer!!!
Don't take unless you really love Theology. Great guy, tries to make class interesting - I'll give him that. BUT, grading is HORRIBLE. You can write exactly what he says in the review and he will still just slap an 80 on the paper. Do not recommend.
Plumer was definitely an interesting professor. His lectures are relevant to the readings but he can get off topic. He gives a study guide the class before your test which has all the questions he could possibly ask. MEMORIZE THE STUDY GUIDE VERBATIM. Gives opportunity to earn extra credit on your overall grade, overall decent professor.
He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He keeps class fun by making jokes (most of them being sarcastic). Dr. Plumer and I didn't agree on every topic, but debating with him in class was always fun and informative! If you like to voice and defend your opinion, this class is for you! Overall, 10/10 professor and class.
A lot of reading. Boring lectures. Randomly calls on people. Unfair grading - if you do not use his EXACT words/opinions on exams he will take points off and if you do use his EXACT words/opinions he will STILL take points off. He specifically said that he will not give A's and "doesn't understand why students all want the best grade." AWFUL CLASS
Easily the best teacher in the Theology Dept. Lectures are intriguing, and he incorporates humor; interesting topics such as climate change and Cardi B are taught. Has a clear grading criteria for a reason- follow it and youll do great! Sad to see people be rude because they can't take accountability! Take notes, attend reviews, & youll thrive!
Plumer made theology extremely interesting, which is not easy to do; lucky to have him! Gives a study guide and holds a review class strictly for answering the questions. Lectures are great and humorous. He always makes time for students to review topics they dont fully understand. I would take him again in a heartbeat! Very clear grading criteria
His class consisted of his shoving his political agenda down our throats without actually providing any connections to theology. He only grades on the three tests and does not have a clear grading rubric. The highest grade I've ever seen anyone get on a test is a 93.5 (an A in his class is a 94) so it is impossible to get an A in his class.
He is an easy A if you go to class and participate, He gives study guides which have exact questions that will be asked on the test and reviews this study guide before the exam so just write down everything that he says and write this verbatim on exams. Takes off little points if you forget information so make sure you write everything he says
He shoves his political agenda down our throats. Thinks he is an economist. He has no facts to back up his claims. This is supposed to be a theology class! We talked about the Bible a few times in the beginning; now it is reading liberal articles. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, just don't shove it down my throat, especially in theology
Grading is solely based on tests. 90% of grade is based on tests in which he has very unclear rubric and frequently lies about test information, like time given and number of questions. This was a theology class and we never talked about theology and he just pushes his political ideas on the class. The readings were rarely created to theology.
Worst professor I have had in my years at The University. NO clear grading system. Doesn't encourage students to participate, because if you don't give the exact answer he wants word for word, he will say you are wrong. Class doesn't talk about theology merely about his political beliefs. Avoid him!
Doesn't like to give A's. Lie to you about test information. Goes out of order with lecture topics and then gets mad when you haven't yet done the readings for a lecture that was supposed to happen next week. Talks about his political ideas all class.
Kinda mean sometimes. Condescending if you don't know the exact answer. Will interrupt you when you are answering his question once he gets whatever out of you that he wants. Doesn't let you finish a thought.
I did not learn a single thing about theology. He just went on and on about random things and expected us to contribute to the conversation. His exams were easy, just an essay (which he goes over the class before). It's not worth it though- you won't learn anything. I took his class online and people would leave after attendance was taken.
Not great professor. Doesn't talk about theology and more about politics. Tests are simple, but you have to write out everything he wants word for word. Not worth it. I don't recommend it.
Overall he is nice and has good intentions, but was sometimes disrespectful to other students when he didn't get the answers he wanted. He also only graded us on three exams and was very unfair and provided inadequate feedback. Avoid if you can.
He has a terrible attitude towards students and his lectures are so outdated it's not even funny that people pay 40k plus for this type of mediocre class. He can barely use a computer and gives an attitude for exam reviews. For a religion course that most people don't even want to take, the school can do better.
He's funny for the first 3 classes but gets old really quick. Three exams and participation is the grading system. Grades harsh He gives you two days to miss and after that, you NEED to bring a doctor's note to be excused. If people don't answer his questions, he starts randomly picking on people throughout the class and puts them on the spotlight.
He's easily one of the best Theology 122 teachers! His class does get a little boring and is mostly just lectures, but he outlines the entire test for you the class before. He likes the test questions to be pretty much copied the way he explained them, so memorize the answers & definitely ask questions. One of my favorite teachers at the U!
Dr. Plumer is an interesting guy. At first he was intimidating but then I got used to how he lectures and have realized that he is very sweet. He wants you to participate a lot throughout class. There are three tests that are just essays and no other graded work. The class is not very hard and he covers some interesting topics.
Can be demeaning if you don't give him the answer, wants to catch you off guard, an extremly unclear grader. Avoid him if you can.
very quirky man, basically a PoliSci class. As long as you dont mind listening to his fairly liberal/left views ALOT in class, you'll be fine. Pretty easy tests just write down what he goes over the class before and use that, he basically gives you the answers. Didnt do any readings before class and passed. def recommend for an easy a.
Just make sure to go to class and participate. He does reviews for the exams. Memorize the answers he gives, and you will get an A. He also gives you two extra credit opportunities.
Tests were not bad but you will only pass if you attend the reviews and produce what he said verbatim on the tests. Lecture is kind of boring and there is definitely a lot of reading for this class. He does give extra credit though which is nice. One of the better Theo teachers though.
Hardcore liberal who forces you to agree with his ideologies and goes on useless rants completely unrelated to theology
He just tries to preach his politics on you. You won't learn anything. He said (twice) that Taylor swift doubled the US economy, and then doubled the Japanese economy. He said republicans are trying to ban condoms. He is too out of touch with reality to be allowed outside. His class is the most boring. Don't believe me? You'll regret it- I promise!
Big on participation but asks weirdly specific questions that don't relate to the readings, then gets angry when the class can't answer. Not really sure what the point of the class was, very unorganized and no clear learning goals. Few assignments so easy A, but tense class atmosphere and don't take if you want to actually learn something.
Dr. Plumer's class is based on 2 exams and the final. He provides a review before class, if you copy exactly what he says (sometimes he gets upset and does not finish the question) you should be fine. He comes off as blunt and rude but will work with you to an extent. Overall, take someone whose class is optional and work is online before him.
Dr. Plumer is a good option when considering that Theology 2 is a required course. While what the other reviews say aren't exactly wrong, if you participate and act like you care about the material, you will be ok. He also gives extra credit for consistent participation. Overall a good Theo professor, especially when compared to some others here.
Dr.Plumer is a top prof for Theo 2. His class is so easy, you could sit in class, not have done the readings and when he calls on you just make up an answer that sounds similar to everyone else's (as long as you don't sit at the end of the row). He pushes a liberal agenda and is so old he didn't know how to open the Bible on Google, hence the 3/5.
Plumer is an interesting guy, but theology 2 is a joke. He pushes a liberal agenda and you study a lot of global warming stuff and darwinism. You'll pull through if you take notes on what he says the class before a test. He's pretty funny sometimes though
Dr. Plumber is not a bad professor. Just beware that he tends to call on random people and tends to go down the rows. His exams are super easy. He tells you the questions and exactly what he is looking for. As long as you do that, you should get an easy 80 or above for his exams. We only had one pop quiz but if you talk a lot he won't give them out
Yea the other 1 stars are correct. If you don't pretend to be liberal, you will have a very difficult time. If you don't raise your hand, or answer a question wrong, he will make you feel dumb. Opened the bible 3 times through the semester, and each time he couldn't figure out how to open it on google. Needs hsi password reset at IT constantly.
Professor Plumer's class has its challenges, but if you actively engage and use study tools like Unstuckstudy, you can succeed. Attend his review sessions and you'll be set for the exams.
Very, very liberal. The first thing he said to my class was, "If you voted for Trump, you could leave now." That said... Only three essays and no quizzes or exams. He will call on you randomly though, and the questions he asked were always really political so don't say the wrong thing (wrong thing being not agreeing with his political views).
Well, if you want a Bernie Sanders character teaching THEO this course is for you! Forget to learn much about the Bible and if you like global warming, homosexuality, darwinsm take this course! I've never met a professor who gets so angry at his class that he has to dismiss the class. He is either in a great or bad mood, you will know right away!
You might not love his teaching style, but he's still the easiest option to pass this course. Sit in the middle, listen to others' answers, and you'll follow along fine. Laptops are allowed, so take advantage of AI tools. For bluebook tests, study the questions with GPT and you'll get through the class easily.
He's an average teacher. Homework is mostly reading, and I use ChatGPT to get the general idea. He cold-calls, so you need to know the basics. There are three in-class writing tests. He gives five possible questions beforehand, and it's usually clear which one he'll use. Not a bad class, just a bit boring
