he was easy... i went to class once every two weeks and got a B so its easy to get an A. He helps if you ask him, but very nervous front of a class.
New teacher. Not very clear but the material is easy and he is willing to help. If he likes you, he will give you breaks. Easy grader, too.
he's an ok teacher, but he explains the problems very unclear. although he is willing to help you when you need help.
He's a really cool guy. He'll help you if you need it. Although he could spend some more time teaching and doing examples on the board. One of the few profs that has a sense of humor
ok teacher dosent answer your questions. he is very helpful only if you ask him for it. his hand are always ashy but he is alright.
Young professor, very nervous but explains concepts well and gives many examples.
He is a nice teacher. He will try to help you if you have trouble with the material. His teaching method is a good way of learning. Don't expect to know the work if you don't ask for help. Stay on top of your work and make an effort to understand the math work.
Very young and nervous professor. However, is willing to help when asked. Don't be afraid of office hours, because he'll explain everthing in detail.
His teaching is okay, but its difficult to ask him questions and sometimes he got a few things wrong.
Like the others said, he's young, nervous and a pretty decent dude too. However, his lectures are very boring - he's so nervous it gets in the way of his enthusiasm. The easiest math class I've had in awhile.
Young professor, very nervous but explains concepts well and gives many examples. He will help you if you need it.
He is a very easy professor. He gives out lots of examples that explains the material which is good for computer science students. There are quizzes and tests that make up the grade, but if you are in class and follow the way he does the examples, you can easily get an A.
He's a new teacher so his lectures aren't as "smooth" as most seasoned professors but he's always willing to help if you ask.
A good teacher. His tests and quizzes are clear and you won't see anything on them that he didn't already cover. Always willing to answer questions. He's a tough grader, but that's only because the material is easy and because he reviews alot for the tests.
Easy Teacher. 3 Tests 1 Final. A few announced quizzes. Homework assigned but not collected. Points based on Tests and quizzes ONLY. VERY clear lecture. Copy everything he writes and you won't ever open the book. Only if the subject matter is difficult will you have to do a HW problem. Highly recommended.
Awesome math teacher; uses his own examples in addition to the workbook's; made everything clear; will make sure you understand; loved his hw schedule; I would recommend him big time
do not take this class!!! super hard!!!!
great professor. he is very clear, and if you need any help you can ask him. he gives quiz every week, but it's easy. Great Prodessor. I recommend him.
Good Teacher. Calculus is a hard subject and I've failed this class before in another college. He teaches really good and easy to understand. He has 4 Test and a final, but his test are easy if you do the homework. Homework are due every other class day. Hes not a fun teacher, but hes there to teach and he sure does his job good.
Great professor. Attend his lectures. Gives many examples, and discusses some of the theories / motivations for each concept. Grade based on homework assignments, 4 exams, and 1 final. Exam problems are similar to assigned homework problems. Very approachable. Answers any questions about problems / concepts you have. But he is always late to class.
Prof. Ratzlaff is an inspiring teacher, very clear and very motivated to see you learn the material. His clarity is unreal for the subject matter. Go to his class everyday. You will regret it if you don't cuz its hard to learn the material on your own. Turn in your homework and you will pass just fine. A+ teaching skills
DONT BUY THE BOOK!its a waste of money,if u attend every lecture u should be fine all his examples on the board is the same on the test except diff. #s.i pass this class with a A and i didnt even use the text book only his notes. just attend the class if you miss one or two days u might be a little lost.overall he's a good professor! take this clas
Great professor! I would definitely recommend him! I failed this class at a different school but when I took it with Ratzlaff, I passed with more than just a C! He makes an effort to make sure that all the students understand the subject matter. Heâ??s very helpful and approachable.
He is a good prof. His lectures are very clear. Write down all the things he says and u will never need your book. Tests are pretty much all from the lectures. Very few hw assigned that u turn in.
Not taking a math class in over five years I enrolled in this class expecting to fail. While Eric may not be the most personable guy ever, he sure is a great teacher. If you show up to class every day (miss one day and you're lost) and take good notes, you'll ace this class for sure. He will work around his schedule to accommodate students.
Great teacher knows what he is talking about. Very extensive knowledge of math. Does not have people skills, will not answer questions about homework in class. Rushes classowork, can't stand talkers or sleepers, stay on his good side and you'll be fine.
He is one of the best professors. He is crystal clear. It is a difficult course, but if you attend every class you can easily get a B or A. 4 tests (read the class notes, and you will do great), a small project (very easy), a couple quizzes (very easy), hmw (easy)...You have to take him...I got an A in the class
One of the Best. Crystal clear lecture. Always ready to help.
EASY-BREEZY. He explains everything in simple terms that even a high schooler would understand. Im re-taking this class and by far, he's WAYYYYY better than the other ones. even tho attendance isnt mandatory, u should go for hw. if u fail this class, its not b/c of him its YOU. YOU. YOU. I dont know how the heck u can fail it.
Very rude professor. Dorky. Quizzes every week. 3 exams and a final. Classwork. Optional homework. Easy class but very few opportunities to raise grade so don't slack.
professor was pretty straight forward. give you the dates of ALL exams and quizzes the first day. collects homework sometimes but will tell you when he does. about 5 quizzes and 3 midterms one comprehensive final. no need to buy my mathlab he doesnt use it.great professor and very clear
One of the best math professors around. He makes things very clear and easy for you to understand. He gives everything ahead so you can be prepared for it. Also his tests are very easy, a very easy class if you show up everyday. And he doesn't do online homework which is less of a hassle for you.
Do the study problems and go to office hours you'll get an A
Pretty good teacher, gets the concepts across. Tests can be a little overwhelming as they are very long and each question combines multiple concepts. You don't really have time to figure out each question sometimes, even if you know everything.
he made everything clear and easy for us to study. u must right everything he has on board and that is ur study guide for the test. HW r on mymathlab. I would recommend taking his class bc u won't use the book unless he ask for extra questions to practice
Attending class is not mandatory but you should go if you want a good grade. Take notes of everything he writes on the board because it will be on the test. 3 tests plus final, homework (online), and no quizzes. Small project, but it was simple.
Alright so I'm horrible at math, however Professor Ratzlaff teaches in a way that truly made me understand everything that was going on. If things still don't make sense, he will be more than happy to help you out during office hours. This class was easy when I focused on getting work done, but I got lazy halfway through.
This is the greatest professor you will have! He makes everything crystal clear. In his notes he writes a couple of sentences that help with the explanations. If you don't understand he's more than happy to help you during his office hours. You never really use the book. It's all my math lab homework which include at most 10-15 problems.
I'm not good at math but Professor Ratzlaff is so clear with his notes and makes everything extremely easy and understandable. He goes slow so everyone can understand and be at the same pace. Definitely the only teacher that anyone should take for math!!!
He is passionate about math and his lectures are clear. Make sure you keep an organized notebook. Tests are like the examples from the lecture. MyMathLab homework twice a week. One homework project but it does not take very long to do. Three midterms and a cumulative final.
Professor Ratzlaff explains every detail as clearly as possible. He is a great professor, but his exams are difficult.
Straight to the point lectures. Shortsort of easy mymathlab homeworks. Tests are a quite difficult but he makes the questions simple in which you don't need a calculator. Easy short project.
Exams are pretty much straight from the lecture so take good notes! Best way to study is by going over the notes, and practicing hw problems.
Eric is a good math professor. 250B is a very tough subject but he made it as clear as possible. The quizzes are not hard if you do the homework. He is just giving them to make sure you stay up on the homework (the homework is technically optional, but at this level you have to do it if you expect to pass the class). I'd take him again.
Professor Ratzlaff made math understandable and fun; his lecture was super clear, highlight with important concepts, and very easy for us to review for later exams. I think everyone should not only pass but also earn a good grade from his teaching, you only just follow closely with his lecture and homework (a fair workload), then you got it!
Great professor, highly recommend. Not the easiest class, but if you show up and do the work you should at least pass.
His lectures are really straight-to-the-point and gives good feedback when handing back test. Beware of random homework assignments and make sure to be there to receive them! My only complaint is he distributes assignments sparingly so that portion of your grade may fall if you don't come to his lectures. All in all great professor!
He is a very nice guy and he teaches really great. Usually homework would not be collected. Attendance was not really mandatory but sometimes he distributed extra HW worksheets(which you need to turn in) in class. His lectures are well designed and organized. Exams are not hard if you do show up and take notes.
Wonderful and brilliant professor. A good professor is one that explains the difficult material and makes it easy to understand. It is still math so you have to do the work, and study, but he is by far the math professor I have ever had.
This is the best math professor I've ever had in my three years at CSUF. He explains everything perfectly. He does randomly give in-class graded assignments to encourage people to not skip. There was barely any homework, maybe a worksheet every other week. Just do the optional practice problems he gives and the test questions are exactly like them.
Very clear and thorough. He breaks down the material step by step. It is obvious that he is showing what you need to know and what is expected from you when it comes down to classwork / homework / exams. Highly recommend taking this professor!
Best professor ever, very clear very helpful. If you show that you care about the class he will help you take good notes all the exams are from the note and from the examples he write. Use his office hours he is very helpful.
Best math 135 professor. Must take, he is very detailed with his lectures and examples which makes learning easy to understand. Exams are very similar to those in the lecture notes.
Good Professor but really tough class. He memorized his lectures and always came prepared to class. His exams are hard but he grades easy unless you have no idea what your doing. I would recommend going to the Math tutoring center every chance you get. Your grade is test heavy so make sure to study hard.
Lectures are pretty straightforward and the homework problems he gives us are not due but if you do the homework problems you are for sure to pass the class. Highly recommended doing them and pay attention to the lectures and you will pass for sure
Although I do like him as a professor, he doesn't drop any exam or make things easy for you at all. This is is an extremely difficult class and I would recommend that you take someone who gives some sort of relief in the crucible that is Calc 2. If you have never taken the course I recommend taking it very seriously and show up constantly.
Professor Ratzlaff is hands down the best Math professor I have had at CSUF. He is a fair grader and gives partial credit on exams. My course was 2 days a week and we had online homework due every Saturday and Tuesday, it was simple web assign homework with not a lot of work. We had 5 worksheets, which are a few questions, 3 classworks, and 4 exams
I struggled very hard going into this class barely passing my first exam. Once you get the flow of how you need to study for this class you will be fine. Eric is an amazing professor who has a passion for math. Don't skip a class, write down everything he writes on the board and do all the hw's. Try to understand the concepts rather memorize them.
Professor Ratzlaff is the ideal calculus instructor! His lectures and teaching methods are clear and easy to understand. If you come to class and actively participate in lecture and do the homework you can get an A. Be sure to check Titanium after every lecture... He assigns work on there often and it's an easy way to lose points if you don't check
The best Math professor CSUF has. 3 exams, final (cumulative), about 9 worksheets for homework. He made 270B easy to understand. GO TO CLASS.
I wish P. Ratzlaff understand that we're in pandemic and we not getting full resources. Fyi, I can't get tutor online bec it's always full. I asked prof if he'd allow final exam grade count and replace one of my bad midterm grade and he says 'NO' when my friend's class get EC + replace 1 midT w/final grade! Not very fair compare to other classes.
Great teacher. His lectures were definitely boring, but if you just took notes and showed up, you're definitely going to pass this class. Also, I'm pretty sure hes on the world leaderboard for Subway Surfers. Don't mention that to him because he might get mad. Overall, the homework is not too bad and exams are decent as long as you study.
Lectures go at a nice pace while being in-depth and tries his best to answer your questions. Great explanation of materials, I recommend printing his notes. Gives homework once a week or so. Make sure to understand the material, not memorize it, makes it easier when you do the test. Let's you use your notes, and any worksheets during the test.
He is the best math teacher in CSUF period. I Really recommend him if you wanna pass this class.
Took him for 270A and currently taking him for 270B. Just show up to class, take notes, study them, and do the recommended homework problems. He assigns worksheets from time to time. Test and quizzes are generally easy as long as you attend class and put in some studying. He doesn't require webcams and doesn't use proctorio.
About 13 hw worksheets given out. 3 quizzes and 2 exams + 1 final. HW is very fair and fairly easy. Exams can be brutal, but not proctored at all. Ask questions if necessary. Lectures are straightforward and he tries to make it as easy as possible.
Amazing professor, best I've had so far. Lectures go off what seems to be self-made worksheets by him, and they flow with the lectures extremely well. Prof Ratzlaff made the material easy to understand giving lots of relevant examples and breaking down each question thoroughly. 3 midterms, 1 final. Wish I could take him for every math class.
Straight forward, clear, and fair. Can't ask for more than that, especially for math. All exams and quizzes were open book. Just take him if he's teaching the class you need. If you have any complaints about him, then there really is no pleasing your entitled participation award receiving booty.
Ratzlaff is amazing, please take his course. His lectures walk you through every single type of problem you'll encounter in the course and he covers multiple examples of each. There are a few homework assignments which only take about 10-15 minutes each to complete with a lot of assigned study problems that are not graded. Best professor ever.
Professor Ratzlaff explains the concepts during his lectures very well. Goes through each step and explains them thoroughly and if you still need help, he is very helpful after class and office hrs. As long as you study, take notes, and do practice problems, you'll earn an A easily. Very chill as a person so don't be scared to ask him questions
This guy doesn't utilize Canvas announcements but updates the homepage with the 'announcements'! It's a bit annoying, to be honest.
Really chill guy and does an excellent job at teaching the material. 10 homework assignments, 3 exams, 1 quiz, 1 classwork assignment, and 1 final. To do well on the exams, review the examples in the notes that he goes over in class and do the optional problems that he provides on Canvas. Exams are a mix of multiple choice and free response.
He doesn't give study guides, so you'll have no idea what will be on the exam. He will tell you that the exam will cover the sections you went over but those sections are long and you could be studying stuff that won't even be on the exam.
Professor Ratzlaff, is a genuine and caring professor. The material in 170A or 250A is difficult, but Ratzlaff does a great job of explaining the concepts. However, because the material is so difficult, in order to succeed in this class is to review the material constantly. Do not skip class because you will fail. Lecture is long and tiring. 7/10.
The professor explained the concepts very clearly and carefully. The professor enjoys answering your questions. Be sure not to miss any of his classes, and if you do, find a way to get missed notes from other students. Remember, focus your teacher's notes and do all the homework that he gives you, and you'll easily get an A!
Pros: Explain materials very thorough, give a lot of problems for practice (not graded) and worksheets for grades, exams are sort of difficult. Cons: No-calculator rule, no study guides, and 4 exams in total for 1 semester.
He explained the lessons very carefully, so it's a win if you are a new learner, but it could be boring if you're a fast learner. He gave out take-home worksheets for grades (10 pts). His exams (4) were moderately difficult because he didn't let you use calculator even though this type of math is known to be tedious. Also, no study guides.
You might be traumatized the first few weeks of class with the pacing, but professor was super detailed and straightforward. 3 exams and a final. Exams are based off the handouts, stay ontop of it, understand the worksheets, you are gucci. I don't know why but this is the only class where I consistently get back pains from the chairs here.
Received a C in this class. When he grades exams, he cares extremely about syntax, you cannot miss a parentheses or you will be marked down heavily, you cannot skip a step or he will mark you down for not showing work. Exams are already worth 84% of the class and he does not drop grades, curves, or rounds them. I recommend taking someone else.
very very very monotone no energy in his voice if your not paying attention you will fall asleep. besides that good teacher
This professor was the best professor I have ever had, possibly the best teacher I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! I am surprised by the reviews posted recently, but I can tell those people in 170A that said those are capping. This professor lectures everything that is going to be on the exam, and is always willing to help you out anytime!
g.o.a.t. literally failed 170a, retook it with Ratzlaff and got a A. Straightforward in everything. Everything you learn in class is going to be on the test etc. Simple class structure as well.
Raztlaff is great if you don't mind a professor who quickly gets down to business and does practice problems for the entire lecture. Textbook pdf is given and only used for extra practice problems that I recommend you do. Homework consists of short weekly worksheets and you can expect the material on the exams to be the same as the homework.
Super straightforward lecture and does practice problems the whole time. The exams are all based off of worksheets he gives you so there's nothing to be surprised about. Also gives extra credit on the exams instead of curving which helps a lot. Overall easy prof & class.
Ratzlaff is quite a boring and monotone professor, so you might fall asleep in class. However, the exams are exactly what is covered in the lectures. There is no surprises. He is always available to help if you need help understanding something.
Eric Ratzlaff was the best math professor I ever had at CSUF. He taught the lectures very well and his lectures were straightforward. I was fortunate to have him for MATH 170A and MATH 170B
Eric Ratzlaff was the best math professor I ever had at CSUF. He taught the lectures very well and his lectures were straightforward. I was fortunate to have him for MATH 170A and MATH 170B.
His teaching style is very straightforward, and he does extra credit on his exams. It's a boring class, but honestly just read your notes again and you should be set for the exams. The homework is just worksheets which is 12 in total. Sometimes there's classwork, so watch out for that. Con is that he uses the homepage on canvas for announcements.
He is a really great math professor. He makes all the concepts clear and understandable. Attendance is not required but I would definitely recommend attending lectures. He makes it so much easier to understand compared to figuring things out on your own/from the book. This class made me enjoy math again.
Prof Ratzlaff is really kind. He is respectable and his lectures are excellent at explaining the new topics. If you are ever stuck, he is very available to your questions. He also provides printable handouts that go over the topics which you can easily study from! You have weekly-ish homework + non cumulative exams.
It is one of the most informative math courses I have taken as a CS major. The professor is passionate and drills the knowledge into you before he moves on to different topics. Attendance is strongly recommended, not required. Having an iPad or access to a printer for notes is a must. Lectures are long, so stay caffeinated, and you should be good.
Good lectures, very responsive to emails, grades within 24 hours. Lectures are long, if you miss/don't pay attention it can be hard to grasp subjects. Gives lecture note sheets. Some tests have EC, but does not curve or round grades. Overall, solid professor, very helpful and will take all the time needed to explain a subject if you need help.
One of the most straightforward professors in the math department. Homework and worksheets reflect the questions you'll see on exams and final. Lectures are clear and easy to follow. If you study the homework problems, passing the class shouldn't be difficult.
He said “ Grades are based on academic performance, not on effort. Do not ask for additional extra credit. Do not ask for a curve. Do not ask for a grade bump up at the end of the semester. It is your responsibility to earn enough points to get your desired class grade.” He is a tough grader and goes through lecture too fast. He is nice tho.
Great professor. Has notes you can print or download, which is game-changing. Lectures well, talks at a normal pace, and he teaches well. Homework isn't bad and reflects your notes. Most exams have extra credit. One of my favorite math profs here. Made understanding concepts easy. Also, GRADES FAST, expect to see your homework and exam scores soon.
