Welcome to the show... Highly energetic instructor who has a lot of enthusiasm for such a dry topic (accounting). His exams are beyond difficult and very tricky. He spends a lot of time in class completing worksheets with students.
The show is great! He's a tough grader (watch your spelling and punctuation, people!) but he really did make accounting interesting. Expectations are very clear. Exams are tedious but not too hard.
Excellent teacher a bit extreme though. However HORRIBLE EXAMS, does he think we must do a second, third or fourth GMAT exam?? and all the stuff with the grammer....god, get a life man
This finance class was taught from an accounting perspective - economics is not Reiner's strong suit. The exams were difficult and you'd better know how to write well and use proper grammar to do well in this class. The class is oriented towards the treasurer role and is not financial statement analysis. I would recommend this class.
THE hardest working professor in the business school. If not in UCD. Be prepared for a river of paper. First there is the book, and your notebook, then comes finance according to him book, then handouts everyday. HARD AS! Grader. Took off a point cause I wrote "zero percent." He wrote "0.2% is not 0%." Expect at least 1 or 2 trick questions on exam
He makes a very dull subject entertaining. He is picky and you do need to write down and study everything he says. He explains things well for those who have never taken accounting before. I would recommend him!
Great teacher, very passionate. I took the online class and it was tough, but his online lectures are understandable, helpful, and fun to watch. You will have to work for your A, but he doesn't make it impossible. You can tell he puts a lot into his lectures and the class as a whole, and it's motivating when a teacher really cares about the class.
The show is great. Very energetic. However, most of the exams are spent on the minutiae he mentions in class rather than actual accounting problems. All tests have trick questions so make sure you know the subject well. Was disappointed in the class overall. Class title was analyzing and interpreting accnt info yet there was pretty much ZERO of either. Basically, class is an intro to accnt class at best. Only analysis done was for final paper. Ok prof. Poorly executed class.
Tough but energetic prof. He loves to tell you how hard he is but don't believe it. If you know the material backwards and forwards you will get past his tricky exams. When he tells you to just know everything he means it. I would recommend him over some drab prof.
Mr. Eric is by far the best prof. at UCD. He is passionate about teaching and makes dry or hard to understand subjects easy to learn. Took him for both accounting and finance and would recommend highly. Most importantly you will learn, and remember, a great deal from this class. Lectures are fun, check out the show.
This is he worst instructor I have ever had. I am a senior now.
This teacher's grading policy is his own policy. It is so sad that he grades on grammar rather than on real calculations. Today's economy is suffering due to the numbers, not because of lack of punctuation.
I'm in his online class this semester and he's okay. He's slightly harder than the average professor, grades hard, and tests over pretty minuscule information. My biggest problem with him is that he posts lectures very late into the week, so you have to constantly log on and look at his class to keep up. One word to sum up his class: "meh."
horrible class!! he failed me for only a few points (10). i participated in every discussion. The exams and quizes are extremely hard, he doesn't give you a lot of time. The last exam was 148 questions! he won't even give you time to look them up on the internet. Please don't make a mistake! dont take it with him!!!
Mr. Eric is the man. He keeps you on your toes and makes the most out of a subject that probably doesn't excite most of the students. Very active and personalized teaching style. Don't take his course if you want an easy A. Take it if you want to learn something.
Mr. Eric was one of the highlights of my MBA. He is passionate and knowledgeable. He is likely one of the brightest teachers I've ever had. I learned so much in this course, and looked forward to it every class. He keeps you on your toes and you must PAY ATTENTION! I HIGHLY recommend you take this class right after Accounting.
TAKE FINANCE ONLINE IF YOU WANT TO PASS! Everyone I know who took finance this Spring failed their class. I was the only one to take Professor Reiner's class online, and as long you do discussions, read the book and practice, you should pass! He makes everything very clear and, though his lectures are odd, they make finance almost bearable.
Mr. Eric is the man! Took his Acct class over summer and switched profs to take him in the fall for Finance. Attend class and take notes and you will be set. He makes a night class a lot more interesting and will remember everyone's name by the 3rd or 4th class. You will not be disappointed. Oh, and bring a camera to class, trust me.
Mr. Eric is an awesome professor! His lectures are very silly but entertaining and supplement the text very well with easy-to-understand explanations. This class was really tough, but if you always participate in discussions, PAY ATTENTION TO LECTURES, take notes for studying, and do the review questions, you should do well.
Good teacher- makes sense of difficult material, but it's still a difficult class. So much info. Pay attention to lecture and study notes for tests. STUDY A LOT!
Mr. Eric is a great professor. He talks to students like adults and keeps them engaged by being a rockstar (literally, he calls his class "The Mr. Eric Rock & Roll Finance Show). More importantly though, he takes this difficult subject matter and provides clear direction on what you need to know. I laughed & I learned.
Not sure about Mr. Eric. He's entertaining in class but didn't really know the material that well. Luckily most of the grades in his class were tests, and didn't require his expertise.
Very clear cut, great workload and reading balance, very helpful lectures, fair grading (if not slightly easy), tells you exactly what he expects, allows the use of a cheat sheet on exams (he writes the cheat sheet), and overall a great guy. Very energetic and actually enjoys teachinghelping students.
One of the best business teachers at CUD. Have taken him for 3 classes. Classes are clearly defined and he grades fairly. If you put in the work he rewards you.
He's a great teacher! As long as you pay attention, listen to his lectures and study hard for his tests, you'll do fine. He offers one make-up test as well.
Good teacher, expects a lot of attention to detail and memorization. Definitely an easy class to pass as long as you put forth minimum effort and pay attention and take good notes.
An awesome professor! He wrote every notes on the board, and he will make sure you understand it before moving on. He will do the online course part, but it will be in video and some notes. He makes everything clear. If you want to learn something real, just follow him.
Mr. Eric makes a dry subject interesting and fun. He's very knowledgable and his lectures are helpful. The online content is very useful as well. There were 3 tough Exams, 3 Quizzes and a time consuming project. It seems that his classes are much tougher than other ACCT courses at UCD, however if you want to learn the material, take this class.
This was an extremely difficult class with large amounts of out of class work required but Mr. Eric is awesome. He makes a difficult subject interesting and is a very hands on professor with fun lectures.
I took him online because it was the only option available. He uses videos which isn't always the easiest method. He tricks you on tests on purpose and the test is timed so fast you barely have enough time to answer the questions and do calculations.
Great teacher! Very tough but makes a dry topic interesting! If you want to learn, take his class.
I took ACCT2220 and let me tell you it was a waste of time with him. I learned nothing. I might have as well just ditched. He is a waste of time and money. Funny guy and provides great stories, but shouldn't be teaching at all! DO NOT TAKE HIM! The textbook was a waste of money to buy as well. DO NOT do it! Very minimal grades in his grade book.
So far this has been the hardest class I've taken. There is a lot of material to cover in 8 weeks if you're taking it in the summer. Some things you will have to teach yourself or ask, like using the financial functions on a calculator. If you do the discussion problems and Selfie-Q's you will be ready for the exam questions. Time is tight on exams
I took this class online and didn't use the book once. Mr. Reiner creates notes and short clips for you to watch which were EXTREMELY helpful on the quizzes and exams. It's important to keep up with the material, but he doesn't over load with information. Would highly recommend him - he's very quirky!
Wouldnt respond to Emails. Class moved really quickly, and his lectures were unhelpful in taking the tests for the most part
Favorite professor at UCD. He is hilarious. His class is very lecture heavy. He will have some video lectures or written on canvas every once and a while. you have to go to class to stay current. Make sure you do discussions in canvas, really important. He doesnt count attendance but participation does matter (especially for canvas discussions)
This class was fine until the end of the semester. I was able to go weeks without needed to look at it and then all of a sudden it jumps into stuff that he doesn't know how to explain and basically leaves it to you to figure out statistics on your own. His tests are nothing like the "practice" he has for you to do. Also just super strange guy.
Interesting statistics class that bridges mathematics with business data principles. Mr. Eric posts up the occasional recorded lectures followed by discussions and practice problems with solutions. Discussions help a lot. The course requires you to stay on top of things more than a most online courses, but an A is totally doable.
Mr. Eric is amazing! His class definitely isn't easy, but if you put in the time, it's not too hard to get an A. You will also learn a lot and the class will give you a solid foundation for other more advanced accounting courses. Going to his lectures helps prepare you for the tests, since he only asks about things he covered in class.
Textbook didn't pertain to tests. Had 4 exams and 4 quizzes. Likes to trick students with none of the above, and rephrasing questions. Exams can be tough. Participation matters, but avg of exams replace participation. Lot's of reading for those interested. Grading is a bit confusing at first.
he is the best option for finance 3000, if you watch his videos ans study his practice exams you will get an A like me.
his exams are hard, he makes you memorize a lot. uses proctorio. lecture material is extensive every week. has a complicated participation method. (answer all (or most) discussion questions or avg of three exams). curves a lot of the exams and quizzes. I would have preferred taking him in class instead of online.
TOUGHEST CLASS EVER TAKEN AT CU DENVER. Be prepared to work your butt off hardcore to pass.
I am the most disciplined and committed student I know, and Eric's class single-handedly put me in therapy. Eric is a tyrant who lives to torture his students with an impossible grading foundation, suffocating work load, with a lazy and unavailable attitude. Our grades consisted SOLELY on quizzes and exams that are written to confuse students. RUN!
Good teacher, just grades on only a few things. The homework on Canvas is required to study or you won't do well on the quizzes and 3 Exams. DO THE SELFIEQ's!
If you dont pay attention to the reading lectures or the videos he post and take good notes, YOU WILL NOT PASS! There are not many homework assignment but tons of discussions, quizzes, and exams. On the bright side, if you dont do well, he will provide so much extra credit and opportunities to make sure you pass. Just gotta put in the work!
This class was challenging but I learned a lot. Requires discipline but if you really apply yourself and try to find the fascination in the subject matter you will do well. It literally came down to how hard can i push myself in this class. Study Study STUDY! The guy is a total rock n' roller so that's fun. Do yourself a favor and take online!!!
This class caused me so much anxiety. Its not uncommon to see students not pass the first time around, and to have to retake it. Lots of homework, plan on spending at least 5-10 + hours a week studying. His tests are designed to trick you, and his lectures are all done over video. He proctors all of his Exams- so you better come prepared.
Eric is a pretty chill dude in my opinion. If you want to do well on the exams, all you really have to do is study and memorize the lectures for like 2 or 3 days and set aside 2-4 hours per day. If you do this, along with the extra credit, quizzes, and selfieq's, you'll get at minimum a B-/B. I highly recommend taking the course online.
Eric is an awesome professor, he makes boring material interesting and easy to understand. But the class itself is not easy. There's so much material and if you miss a class you will fall behind. Make sure to set time aside to study, or else you will probably fail. Quizzes are all PROCTORED. Exams are lengthy and papers are a lot of work as well.
Eric is one of the best teachers I have had at CU Denver. He is hilarious, cares truly about his students, knows how to teach, and is just a fantastic human being. Be prepared, this class will take up a lot of your time. Constant exams and quizzes but gives you the study guide which covers everything you need to know. You will learn a ton!
Mr. Eric is an amazing professor with a wealth of knowledge, but beware, you have to work for it. Intense lectures that you have to memorize, and sometimes they can be difficult to follow. That being said, if he knows youre working hard, he will help you out anyway he can. But you have to put probably 2 hours away every day for each class.
If I had to describe Mr. Eric's class in one word, it would be unreasonable. On tests he'll trick you with answers similar to each other. He expects you to know 10 different ways to say the same thing. It is very common to see many fail, many pass, but no one with a C on his exams. Avoid at all cost, even if you have to take it next semester.
His online lectures are very clear and easy to understand. He uses a combination of video lectures and written lectures and as long as you read through the lectures and participate, you will get an A.
Mr. Eric's class is strange. If there is a "curve" on an exam and you get less than a 70%, you dont get it. Tests are very difficult as he intentionally tries to trick you into choosing the wrong answer. ie what does s and p stand for? standard and poor or standard and poors? All the exams are like this and apply to long hand math problems as well
If you find yourself having to take his course, here's what you need to do to pass. 1. Do all discussion questions. Your participation grade is either exam average or participation score. 2. Do all SelfieQ and study guide topics. If you do these you will pass. 3. Do flashcards/quizlet. He does trick question so you need to know things to a T.
Professor Reiner's syllabus is taken very seriously. You have to commit 15-20 hours a week to this class in order to learn. Know how to pace yourself and give yourself plenty of time to prepare for quizzes and exams. My tip is to get the week's module notes and discussions completed the first half of the week and study the rest.
I had the professor for a summer online course. He explains every topic very clearly. The class consists of discussion, quizzes, and exams. The test can be tricky at times but they are fair. He responds to emails very quickly. The class can be difficult but he explains things in a way so that you can understand the material. Overall, good class!
Effective cool professor. Follow the syllabus, do the required work, practice the discussion problems, study for exams (he gives study guides)-you will do great. I never did the discussions not required of me, just practiced problems, checked if right, read/watched lectures & studied for exams/quizzes. Study & participategood grade.
Mr. Eric is the best professor I have had in my college career. He is hard, and you need to study to pass his tests, but his lectures are great and he really wants you to learn. If someone has a question he will go over it until that person gets it, and he won't act disinterested, he really wants his students to pass.
This professor obviously loves teaching finance more than anything else. I took the course online; Ive never had more busy work/reading/quizzes in an online course before. He makes you use this third party app - unlike 99% of other online professors - which makes tests and quizzes much harder.
I highly recommend this professor for FNCE3000. I have taken many online classes at UCD and I can tell he really cares for his students due to all the effort he puts into making the online class more immersive. There is a lot of content so the class itself is a bit challenging but study and it will be okay. Amazing professor, take his class.
Avoid this class at all costs, there is 5 exams and nearly twice as many 50 point quizzes. That is the basis for your grade so if you can not teach yourself finance then take a classroom finance course with a different professor.
Professor Reiner is a great guy but his class is hard to the max. He does trick questions on quizzes and tests, and at times 2-3 problems are worth several letter grades. The online quizzes are PROCTORED and they are worth around 7 % of your class grade. No homework. The grades are based on quizzes and tests alone. Avoid this guy at all costs.
He is a great guy but his material was tough. Failed every test and literally did my absolute best. If you aren't working and have more time on your hands then take him. But for a full-time employee would not recommend it.
Mr. Eric was really funny and I definitely learned a lot in his class. He keeps the lectures interesting by applying real world examples and intermittently engaging in funny antics... I'm a finance major so I really enjoyed his class. Tests were hard but I learned. I can understand how people want an easy A but this is college.
Mr. Eric is a really charming guy who treats his class as a "show" where he is able to create a casual space. He will provide the packet that will guide the course so all you have to do is show up and fill out the blanks. The tests are based 100% from the study guides so it's not hard to get 100 in the class if you show up.
Very funny professor, however, his class is a bit difficult. It's hard to catch up if you miss class because his exams and quizzes rely heavily on his lectures (even though you don't get graded on attendance). Some concepts are hard to grasp because his lectures are a bit difficult to understand. You have to pay attention for a good grade!
If you've taken any macroeconomic class, AKA with kyle hurst. Then this class is similar and should be a breeze. Follow his lecture and you should be good for the tests. Make sure to do the problems and review concepts on study guide
Mr. Eric is by far one of the best profs I've had. If you need to take FNCE3000 take it with him! He explains the material so well and always makes sure everyone understands. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you skip a class, it might be a little difficult to catch. There is no homework but lots of canvas quizzes and exams!
I took Eric online for Finance and Statistics, he is a great online professor. He uploads video lectures which are informative and used as a basis for the Exams. He also provides very in-depth study guides. He is hilarious and unlike any professor I have had in my college career.
Mr. Eric is the best! His lectures are interactive and engaging! He make funny comments for definitions during lectures and those really help memorize the material. Yes, you have to work, read, participate during the entire semester, but you will learn a lot from his class and will get a good grade! Would take again!
I was at first impressed with Mr. Eric's enthusiasm, however, I quickly learned how it distracts from the lack of professionalism and understanding he lacks as a professor. He isn't a bad person, but he is one of those teachers that lacks understanding and empathy for his students and how they learn. His class is messy, & so is his handwriting.
Mr. Reiner is a really nice person. This class is hard, but he does provide good lectures and videos. In his exams, he does make questions tricky and hard. You seriously need to take the class serious and actual study very good.
Mr. Eric is great! Each week has it's lectures, practice problems, and required exercises, there are also quizzes and exams. Protorio is used here so study from the study guides Mr. Eric provides especially as exams are tough. The book is nice to have to supplement learning. The retirement project was a bit confusing but overall the class was great
Mr. Eric is an awesome teacher, but there is so much work. 4 online quizzes (Proctored) that are just are basically smaller exams, and 3 exams. Also dont but the textbook, we never used it. You must show up to class to pass. Class is not difficult at all, there just is a lot of studying and exams...
If you like professors who speak of themself in the third person, than "Mr. Eric" as he'll refer to himself 5000 times, is your guy. If you also plan on getting a masters in Finance, take his class. Because it requres you to be an expert to pass. Avoid this professor at all cost. His lectures are weird and short. He mostly teaches by paragraph
He made an online class entertaining and engaging. He was very effective at teaching the content and presenting more material to practice but only required certain things. It made the class very manageable.
The professor is very charismatic and makes the class very fun! The material itself can be very boring and difficult, but he makes it very enjoyable and easy to learn- if you show up to class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but the lectures are key to passing the class. Very funny and makes an effort to make class enjoyable!
Mr. Eric is awesome! He really made the class interesting. You have to do the weekly work but if you do you'll do fine. I didn't even use the textbook and just learned everything from his modules. Awesome professor! There's also a little extra credit on various quizzes if you need it. You will not be disappointed taking his class.
Based on some of the reviews I was scared to take Erics class but hes been one of the best finance teachers Ive had. Its a lot of work for sure you always have a quiz or test but if you watch his lectures and take notes you can definitely get an A! I wish he would teach the other finance courses hes one of the best online professors!
I took Acct 2200, overall a fun and easy class. HW is online, quizes and exams are tricky, pay attention to details. Lots of resources on canvas. Mr. Eric is lively and lectures are enjoyable. He explains concepts so you understand them in the real world, very useful for business/finance.
A lot of lectures and notes. Likes to put in trick questions for quizzes and Exams. What you study for is most likely not on the exams. hardly any extra credit points. get ready to take notes and sit in a lot of lectures. does not like to help and recommends terrible tutors
Professor does not care at all. It is all online. He is a terrible professor. He will not answer emails. He gives really bad advice. The lectures are super long. whatever is on the test is not really on the test. He will not help. Bad recommendations for tutors. Do NOT take this professor.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND TAKE HIM ONLINE! This class is a hard one. Like really hard, but if you study way too hard you'll make it. I took him online in the summer, and we have both video and written lectures. There's 3 quizzes & Exams and also homework. Everything graded is proctored. You need to make extra time for this class, it has A LOT!
I was skeptical about taking a class with him due to the reviews. However, this class is doable. You have to be there for lectures and/or look at his videos if online. If you do that and the practices, youll get an A. Finance seems hard, but if you practice you will understand it. Study a lot! Flash cards helped me. He is also funny and random!
Eric's class was very straightforward. His weekly lecture notes as well as the videos he made to accompany them were very helpful, and the practice problems were a great supplement. I feel like I actually learned something in the class. Don't buy the book, if you follow along with his notes you'll be fine.
I do not think it is possible to put in less effort as a professor. He focuses on definitions too much while teaching but then misleads students by focusing primarily on problem-solving on the tests. If you do not test well, I suggest taking the courses he offers with someone else.
Class is organized, expectations are clear, communication from prof is great, weekly (light) HW, biweekly quiz and/or Test, Organized lectures with videos and some notes along with plenty of very helpful practice problems, Study guides provided to help narrow curriculum, if you find this class as hard as so many, adjust your study techniques.
I have taken multiple classes with this prof so far because he is that good. His class and expectations are always clear. He gives you countless opportunities to succeed by providing extra credits and practice problems. Study guides are provided and they relate to his exams and quizzes. As long as you study and attend lecture, you'll do good
Mr. Eric is entertaining to watch. He goes over concepts and makes them really easy to understand and memorize. By the end of the course, you should be able to regurgitate the same information. His exams are straight from the notes, you study those and you will be fine. 10/10 will take his higher-level courses.
I have never dropped a class in my entire life until I got to "Mr. Eric's" finance class. I took his class online and every single assignment, quiz and test are timed and recorded. Literally gives recorded 9 minute assignments that are only three questions and by the time your anxiety settles down, time is up! Avoid this professor if you can!
Material is organized, expectations are clear, weekly small HW, biweekly quiz and/or Test, Organized lectures with videos and some notes along with helpful practice problems, Study guides provided to help narrow curriculum to study. Really annoyed that the weekly HW is proctored though
He is enthusiastic but disorganized and frustrating to follow. He uploads material in small sections so you have to string together several written and video lectures to get through one topic. When going back to study for exams, it makes it very frustrating to find the material. Never had a professor time and record homework before, but he did.
The course definitely comes with a workload, but this class/professor was one of my best in my LONG academic career. The best part about this class is how straight forward it is, if you follow the syllabus and go through all the modules and chapter readings you will get a very strong grade. Some seemed to struggle though, learned a lot!
Test heavy, even though Financial Management deals with mathematics and real-world scenarios - there were no written assignments like case studies or analytical projects. It was all test-based, you will be recorded in every test. 9 minutes for 3 questions, 90 minutes for 120 questions, and so on. Theory heavy, you need to cram all the formulas!
The "Mr. Eric Rock and Roll show" is what he calls his lectures, it is a foolhardy thing to think that you will enjoy the comedy in his lectures and get good grades. The course content is hidden and you don't see it until the week opens. You cannot plan for the future. All tests are theory-heavy and there are a lot of trick questions, it is hard!
Mr. Eric provides handouts for all of his notes and detailed videos on calculations. If you follow along through the Canvas material, it is straight forward. He provides a lot of practice problems and has quickly responded to my questions. Helpful study guides before exams to focus on theory and calculations.
Not horrible, pretty cool guy. But his method of organization is overwhelming. (1 of his modules contains 26 pages) Also, really dislike the fact the homework is proctored. Realistically, it is not a lot of work but the way he organizes his course, it feels like you have to go through so much in order to learn all of the content.
I wont lie, some of the ratings on Mr. Eric definitely scared me when deciding to make my choice. But lots of them are from lazy students who didnt do the work and go bad grades. I enjoyed Mr. Erics class. Yes everything is proctored, but he sets it up in a way for you to succeed. He give you detailed study guides and has lots of bonus points!!
Mr. Eric is absolutely hilarious! This is my second class with him and he truly enjoys teaching. Class is split into weekly modules, which include required exercises, optional exercises, and a mix on written lectures and video lectures. Each module has a study guide to fill out as you go, so you know what to take notes on. Organized, but hard.
I do not recommend taking this course unless you like taking a course that is only dedicated to testing - I wish I was joking. The entire course is based on exams, quizzes, and required exercises that are all proctored. It makes it impossible to learn all the information for one week and be expected to receive an A.
Mr. Eric is great professor. He materials and videos are good and he makes the class interesting. I got to learn a lot from mr. Eric.
If you are planning on taking FNCE 3000 with him, make sure you remember every single thing you ever learned in business school because he will have you use it and his "review" of material is nothing. I saw another review saying that only slackers dislike this teacher but I am very hard working and make straight A's and he was so difficult.
If you know you have to study for this class, make sure you do it because every quiz & test will bring down your grade tremendously if you do not get at least a B on them. Make tons of flashcards & make sure you fill out every single thing on the study guides. Do all the exercises and make sure you get them all right, they make or break your grade.
Mr. Eric is the best professor I've had at UC Denver. He's really in touch with his method of teaching and the material will stick with you for a life time. I learned a lot and enjoyed his style of teaching! He also cares about his students succeeding and gives everyone the opportunity to do so. I would take any class that he teaches.
The BEST online teacher I've ever had. I actually learned and RETAINED information. You don't have to read the text, he goes over everything you need to know in written and video lectures. Each lecture has a handout you follow along with and fill out. Fill it out, study it, do the practice problems, and it's an easy A. Also gives lots of bonus EC.
This course contains a ton of material, but Mr. Eric teaches in a way that makes it enjoyable and easily retainable. Nothing in this class is too difficult. Every homework (which are only two questions each), quiz, and exam is proctored, but his study guides provided before each quiz or exam gives the students with everything they need to pass.
I have never failed a class before and now I need to retake it. Even his homework are proctured and every test is comprehensive on everything you've learned.
At this point, you should be used to the low quality at CU Denver, but this is a completely different level. Absolutely everything is proctored, including homework. Sometimes he provides videos, sometimes he just has you read through his ramblings. The material is HIS interpretation of finance, not the world's - forget your accounting/finance.
Mr. Eric is hands down one of the best teachers in this program. There is a ton of material in this course, but he presents it in such a clear and entertaining way (who thought finance could be fun?) that I clearly understood nearly everything. When I didn't understand something, he was always helpful. Flashcards are recommended.
this is one of the worst instructors I came across. even community colleges had better instructors than him. he rambles a lot on his recorded video lectures and expects you to take notes from the videos plus the book. he studied psychology and sociology which has nothing to do with Finance or Risk management plus he has no actual
Currently taking this class... I have never struggled with a class like his before. He makes everything so complicated with all his modules. The homework and tests are all proctored. I wouldn't recommend him unless you want to be challenged.
Expects you to remember a lot of material and can only have a cheat sheet he gives you with only some formulas. Tests are overly comprehensive and uses tricky language to make you lose points. He's proud about how difficult he is to take classes with. Hard workers struggle with him as well. Slackers: do no take him.
Prof. Riener is everything that is wrong with the tenure system. His teaching style is antiquated and not helpful to students. All point opportunities in this class are in the form of proctored tests/quizzes. There are no projects, homework assignments, etc. He is passive aggressive in many communications. Tests are intentionally confusing. Beware
records you doing homework and tests, purposely tries to trick you on questions. Doesn't ask real-world question and rambles during lectures. Expects you to memorize 160+ questions worth of material with no notes. Very little opportunity to do well in this course, do not take it with him.
Reiner says he's funny but I didn't find anything he said or did funny. Finance is taught in his own opinion, not the real world's version, as some have said in past about him. There are exams and quizzes almost every week, recorded. Homework every week is recorded. I got with him to ask him for help and he basically called me stupid. Don't take!
He just rambles on and on, and he thinks he's so funny. Do not take this professor if you can, he is beyond difficult for no reason.
This is a heavy heavy load finance class. However, Mr Eric is entertaining in his lectures and really makes the subject interesting and meaningful. If you do all the work (and there's a lot of work), it is not hard to get an A in the class. Mr Eric gives you all the information you need including comprehensive study guides for his exams.
DO NOT BELIEVE ANY OF THE GOOD REVIEWS! This professor is terrible! So terrible that he even posted an announcement halfway through the course telling students how to properly withdraw from his class. I could go off about how bad he is, but there is just too much. Have to expect this with CU Denver...
I want to start off with that Mr. Eric is a nice guy and means well, but he is not the best professor. You will have to memorize every single definition to do decent on the exams. His lectures are from 2012. Lots of busy work!
Wonderful instructor, top 3 I've I've had at college/university. He actually teaches unlike a lot of college professors. His class is quite difficult and requires a fair amount of work, but it is not unreasonably difficult. This is not a blowoff class, you will need to put in a fair amount of effort to succeed. He does offer plenty of extra credit.
I wish I could hit him over the head with the class textbook but its digitial and impossible to get access to.
He is the best professor I've had in the MBA program. I was a little worried when I saw everything is proctored - homework, quizzes, and tests. He gives you everything you need, including study guides. It was a high workload compared to some of the other classes I've taken, but it was fun and I learned a lot. Thanks Mr. Eric for being a finance OG.
Overall good professor when it comes to lectures&assignments. If lectures are completed, the assignments will be easy. Exams/quizzes are a bit difficult & require you to know the material well. All of the study guides for exams/quizzes have been about 10+ pages, but can be filled through the lecture material. Must give this class time & attention!!
This was one of the WORST classes I've ever taken. Everything is proctored, including the homework, and every single study guide I've created for both the quizzes and Exams are about 20 pages long. I go into the tests feeling confident, but he uses a bunch of trick questions to stump you. DO NOT take this professor.
Mr. Eric is very straight forward with his work. The class is difficult but if you stay on top of everything and study the content it is an easy A. He gives you worksheets as well as study guides, you just have to stay on top of everything. Lots of work, but I learned a ton that helped me with future classes.
The lowest-quality class I've ever taken. Handouts are awful, written lectures are difficult to read-- literally because the format is so bad, and figuratively as he rambles. The video lectures also full of rambling, no effort with the learning materials. HW assignments are all proctored and timed. Avoid if you can. Wish I could get my money back.
His class is absolutely one of the worst Ive taken at CU Denver. His custom textbook is over $100.I've never had to use it.The lecture videos are from 2011 which means he hasnt done any actual teaching in over 10 years. His exams have a lot of trick questions.Dont bother going through the matieral because he will throw you a curveball for the exam
He is a good person and very good with communication. Also very understanding if you email him but he is a very hard grader especially on his quizzes they are very hard. Also was not happy he gave us an exam during thanksgiving break.
All the agenda is confusing and does not make a lot of sense, better/easier to just search up all the material on your own. All his assignments also have a monitoring software with a lockdown browser. The good side is that he offers bonus points for quizzes and exams and opportunities to change your exam grade for the best.
He is a funny and positive professor. Gives great feedback and does give extra credit. Would recommend!
Mr. Eric is very knowledgeable. He has his own lecture which is already simplified from super thick book. If you want to enroll this class please make sure to dedicate your time at least 10-15 hours a week. Required test is proctor. Overall, you will learn a lot of foundation of finance.
Professor Reiner was ok at best, HW, Quizzes and Exams are proctored, so read up on the materials and lectures he provides (it's a lot). The study guides are a true savior for tests and quizzes, so please use those. He was fairly reachable outside of class, but the class itself wasn't all that great.
Look -- Mr. Eric is so nice and super helpful. He provides literally everything you need to succeed. And SO MUCH extra credit/bonus opportunity! The material is not HARD, but its math. It's a lot of formulas to remember...so just study. Honestly if you do the work, you'll succeed. I was worried because of the reviews but he gives you EVERYTHING!
The only people giving this class a 1/5 are lazy. If you're expecting to not do anything and pass - good luck. This man gives you literally everything you need to succeed and the exams follow the review exactly. Good professors take a hard class and make it easy, bad professors take an easy class and make it hard. Mr. Eric does the former
Mr. Eric is hilarious! Short Required exercises, 2 exams, 2 quizzes need lockdown browsers, great summer course to take. He provides Great study guides. in SU24, he had a personalized textbook, but "buy" the individual textbooks instead, super cheap~. Watch all his short lectures and keep up with the study guide and you should be good !! :)
Best teacher I ever had. Takes what could be a hard class and makes it easy and interesting! He's bubbly during his lectures, and the test are not made to trick you if you study. Great and easy class IF you are actually looking to learn and not just skate by. You have to put in the work, but Mr. Eric does most of the heavy lifting. 10/10
Mr Eric is very clear and straightforward with his lectures, grading criteria, and the information that will be on the tests. The only way you can do poorly in this class is if you are lazy. There are no tricky questions, no complicated exams. Homeworks, tests and exams are timed but he gives you probably at least triple the time you actually need.
I pay college tuition so he can teach me lectures that he made in 2012. Disappointed with him and his teaching style. Makes you memorize everything for this course and you aren't allowed to have any notes and requires a lockdown browser on tests, quizzes, and even assignments! Stay away from this professor at all costs!
Professor Eric's class is tough but rewarding. The material is math-heavy, so studying the formulas is key. Thankfully, the extra credit and bonus opportunities help a lot. And Unstuckstudy has been a lifesaver for prep!
This class isn't as hard as reviews say if you do the notes and study guides. It's time-consuming but manageable. I appreciate that he doesn't require McGraw Hill. My main issue is the outdated lectures. Calling 2012 recordings "time capsules" isn't enough when students pay $1700 per class. They should at least be rerecorded with updated examples.
Fairly tough class. Lots of things to memorize, the class doesn't test your critical thinking or problem solving but basically how much you can memorize for a test and there is a LOT. Most the lectures are outdated as well which is disappointing given the cost. The sad thing is Mr.Eric seems like a super fun guy but teaching style is awful.
I hated this course. Awful teacher
I took Mr. Eric's FNCE 3000 class online and his lecture videos were very thorough and easy to understand. Overall, his class was pretty easy.
my second course with Mr. Eric!! He's fantastic at lecturing. His study guides are actually useful for the exams (rare!) He's so sweet and funny. Use his lecture notes (not long, just spaced out to be like 15 pgs), and reasonable workload. He does have lockdown browser enabled for all tests + quizzes. anyways put in like 2 hrs/wk & voila, an A~
I thought this class was well run, informative, and fun. If you're new to finance it will be a lot of new information, but that's what [grad] school is for! Mr. Eric is easy to communicate with and encouraging.
Took FNCE 3000 over the summer, Mr. Eric made the class super easy with his lectures and handouts. Lectures are outdated but they are very helpful, requires lockdown browser for everything but assignments are easy. His lectures are very detailed that I didn't even have to buy the book. He provides plenty of extra credit! Would take this class again
