Easy. Roth uses powerpoints of the definitions from the book, thats all. Make flash cards & you'll do just fine.
Pretty easy. Uses power-points but the definition from the power-points come straight from the book. Class is not mandatory except for the last two weeks for the research proposal presentations. Tests are a little hard but some questions have stupid answers.
really easy teacher. im a psych major so i love this stuff but i found that his lecture made it stick well in my head. tests arent hard and he gives you 1 or 2 free quesitons out of 45 on each of them, plus you get 10 extra credit points at the end if you dont miss any of the 3 tests or 2 quizzes.has a weird obsession with snakes, rats, and mustard
I took his honors section. He is sooooo monotone but the class itself is pretty easy. He basically reads off the powerpoint which is copied straight from the book. Beware- he expects you to read every page of the textbook from chapter 1 to 13. Tests were challenging but he curved at the end so we all ended up with decent grades.
Easy to understand, gives a couple of free questions for every test. He gives checklists of every term you need to know for the test. As long as you look them up in the textbook and not in your notes (unless it's a definition), you'll get an easy A in the class.
Run. Run while you can. He's a nice enough guy but tests are impossible even after hours of studying, and it's really boring subject matter. I didn't learn anything. I was happy just getting a C- because it's IMPOSSIBLE.
So boring, class lecture is so irrelevant. paying attention wont do you ANY good on the test, all comes from the book. TA did all the test making/grading. Tests were ridiculous compared to what we learned in lecture. AVOID! THere is a large curve at the end
Great class but stressfull! So much to learn!Very difficult but large curve and test forgiveness keeps grades up.Checklists provided but it would help if more specific. Aside from overwhelming material, Dr. Roth is great, knowledgeable, entertaining, approachable, and a little odd. Study hard, attend lecture and office hours, and you will do well
Overall Roth is a good professor. He is quirky and a little odd at times, but he is passionate about psychology and tries to keep class interesting despite boring material. 3 multiple choice exams, a research proposal and presentation, and a cumulative final. Highly recommended.
He is a really nice guy and very understanding and accommodating. I had to take my final early and he let me take it whenever I wanted. The tests can be a little difficult, but they are all multiple choice and he almost always includes a few answers that are completely irrelevant (like about mustard, which he loves).
I had him for brain and behavior. The amount of material on each test was slightly ridiculous. However, I studied my ass off and managed to get an A but its a lot of work. But he has a hugeeeee curve so I'm sure lots of people ended up getting better grades than they realized.
Roth is pretty cool. You have to study alot and read the book. He does curve well. Be prepared to talk alot about mustard and its magical qualities.
READ THE TEXTBOOK. For an honors course, he's not as helpful as you would expect. His powerpoints are right out of the text so if you take notes and read the book you'll do well. Lots of curving which is very helpful. Classes were very boring, but attendance is mandatory. Truly, just memorize the terms from the book and you'll be safe.
BIGGEST REGRET OF MY LIFE…. all textbook based, he's a smart guy but terrible at explaining his thoughts/publicly speaking I WISH THIS WASN'T A REQUIREMENT FOR THE PSYC MINOR BECAUSE IT IS EQUIVALENT TO POKING NEEDLES IN MY EYES… good luck -___-
Nice guy but not a great teacher. Lectures usually don't have much to do with the exams. Exams are mostly textbook based. Only good part is that he curves the exams pretty generously. Grades based off of two quizzes, four exams, a group presentation, and a research paper. In the end I wish I took a different professor.
The class itself was very difficult, and it was very textbook based. His lectures are not very helpful at all, yet attendance is still mandatory. Also, he's really weird and shares a lot of weird stories with the class that have almost absolutely nothing to do with the material... he's trying to be funny, but it doesn't work very well.
He is so funny, and makes class interesting. He basically teaches the textbook though, and attendance is mandatory. the curve is insane, and there is a lot of extra credit. its fairly easy except the research review paper at the end. but i got through it, and he is super funny. I would retake this class
HELL NO. Class is ENTIRELY textbook based, I basically had to teach myself the material since his in class lectures/explanations are useless. He does give out a lot of extra credit opportunity. 1 BIG BIG paper, 1 group project, 3 exams and 1 cumulative final. if you don't need this class for a requirement DO NOT TAKE IT, TRUST ME!
My biggest mistake ever. I think he forgets this is basically an intro level class. It was unnecessarily hard, but hes a pretty cool guy. Just not a good teacher. I never thought multiple choice exams could be so hard, but he found a way.
Professor Roth is a seriously nice guy, however, he is not the best teacher. To do well in this class, READ THE TEXTBOOK. I only go to class for the clicker questions.
This was a good class. He's not looking to hurt your GPA, he wants to help you learn and he wants you to want to learn. If you read and pay attention in class (emphasis on reading) you should do fine. He tells goofy stories that make class less dull. Good guy!
there is a lot of material and it is very specific. you have to study a lot
"If you dont have a strong background in Bio, Chem, Physics, Cell Biology, Physiology, Genetics, & any other related fields, DROP THIS CLASS!" Was the first thing he said on day one of the semester. That couldnt be a more true statement. I have never taken a harder class in all of college. know VERY specific parts of brain, what they do & why
Makes Brain and Behavior incredibly interesting. Difficult, and a lot of studying is required, but he does his best to make sure that everyone learns and gets a decent grade. Tests are difficult, but he curves the class to make sure the overall average is a B - VERY helpful. Science background - helpful, go to office hours!
This was definitely not an easy A, but if you study and take advantage of the free points he gives out you shouldn't get lower than a B. He's a really cool guy and makes his lectures pretty interesting. I don't recommend this course for people who aren't very interested in the subject.
Dr. Roth is a fun, positive teacher that is quite familiar with the class material and excellent at explaining difficult concepts. His lectures are infused with a dry humor that makes the material bearable. There's a lot of work and studying involved and the exams have tricky questions, but the pace is reasonable and he curves nicely.
Dr. Roth is a pretty laid-back guy and is very reasonable about his grading policy. He curves all of the exams so that you get a decent or good grade, but you have to put in a LOT of work if you want to do well. Also, he periodically gives pop quizzes which is annoying. The class is interesting, but be prepared to work if you take him.
My favorite professor I've had. Material is difficult and the tests are really tough but he makes lectures fun and interesting. He connects almost all material to real world situations and scenarios to help you master the material. I would not hesitate to sign up for another class with him!
This class is pretty tough. In order to get a good grade you need to READ THE TEXTBOOK AND TAKE NOTES FROM READING using the checklist he gives to take the notes. Make sure you know all of the brain structure in depth. DO NOT just memorize definitions, be able to talk about certain concepts-- doing this will help you on the test.
Prof Roth is an amazing professor and really knows what he's talking about. He makes lectures interesting and he's really funny too. However, this has been the hardest class. I worked my butt off for my B. Read the textbook! Connect the dots. Don't just memorize the material, know the material. Great but very challenging class.
LOVED ROTH. Class is challenging but he is very helpful. Once you get past the first quiz and test it gets a lot easier. He added a lab component which has hard practicals but was interesting. He curves VERY generously and gives easy assignments at the end of the semester to boost grades. Gives a group project which isnt bad. He makes funny jokes
Dr. Roth makes the class seem very scary when he goes over the syllabus, but it is really not too bad. He curves the class to a high B and offers lots of opportunities for extra credit. Tests are fairly straight forward. You do need to study and memorize a lot of vocabulary. There is one long research paper, but it is graded mostly for format.
Dr. Roth's tests are EXTREMELY difficult. You must do a LOT of studying outside of class to just barely get a B. Can't just know the definitions/meanings of topics, must be able to explain in depth and draw your own connections between them. I'm a psych major and had a very hard time in the class. Lab attendance mandatory.
Dr. Roth is a really good teacher. If you take the notes from the textbook, and study for a few days before the exams, you will be fine. He has some fairly interesting quizzes and projects, but they aren't hard. He tries to scare you on the first day, but he is really nice and curves tests to a B. Great professor!
My favorite professor!!! Really made learning Neuroscience fun. Yeah the tests are pretty difficult but if you just read over the textbook you'll be fine. Class can be interesting but sometimes he goes off on tangents. Curves HEAVILY so class average is around a B+.
You need to study to get a good grade but Dr. Roth really helps you out along the way and there is always a curve in your favor throughout the semester.
Love him so much. He loves zombies - he is crazy - and he makes class time fly by with his hilarious disposition and his entertaining slides and commentary. You will read and teach yourself most of the information, but the class is so great you don't even mind. Go to the study review sessions that he has before each exam and you are golden. GOAT
Dr. Roth is an amazing professor that cares about his students. I wouldn't say this class is an easy A because the lab practical is brutal, but there is a curve to help you. He makes the lectures interesting and makes a lot of jokes. I would definitely take Dr. Roth's class again.
He is a solid teacher if you participate and read the book you should have no issues with the class. It helps if you read ahead too.
Dr. Roth is one of the best professors that I have had at UD so far. He is hilarious and it's easy to pay attention in his class. The class isn't easy, but if you put in enough time and effort it's very doable.
Such an amazing teacher, definitely the best one for neuro classes! He makes the corniest jokes but that's what makes his lectures so interesting. You definitely have to read outside of class but he goes over really important things in class. Tests are kinda tricky but he gives a lot of extra credit. Just study & you'll do great!
Roth honestly cares about his students.. He gives ample extra credit and curves the class. He wants his students to learn neuroscience rather than always be concerned about grades. Only bad part of this class is the lab practical. Start studying on day one for it. It is absolutely impossible, especially if you, like me, didn't take NSCI100 with him
I absolutely loved Dr. Roth's NSCI320 class. I did not take NSCI00 before this class and I was able to understand and learn the material fairly easily. Go to office hours if you need greater explanations on specific topics, Roth is always super willing to help whenever you need it. I will definitely take more of his classes in the future!
Dr. Roth is a quirky guy which helps him make a difficult subject really fun. It's really important to show up to class. Do the readings and take notes on it before class and do the checklist he provides and the exams are a piece of cake. I really enjoyed this class and after two semesters with Dr. Roth, I'd take any neuro class with him.
Dr. Roth is THE BEST! It's neuroscience, so the material in itself is not easy. But, he makes it clear what is needed to get a good grade. The way he taught our lecture is that you read in advance to class and come to class with questions and talks about based off what you're confused on. He's hilarious and throws so many points out in the end.
Dr. Roth's the best! A passionate and hilarious professor who makes a tough subject enjoyable. Lectures are highly efficient--you read before class, show up with questions (YES, SHOW UP!), and he clarifies any confusions. If you study his exam checklists, read, and actively participate, you'll do well. Tons of extra points too. Highly recommended!
Dr. Roth is my favorite professor here. The material is hard but he finds a way to make lectures fun and interesting. Super punny guy and very understanding and willing to help with anything. He adds a really big curve and gives extra credit for participation. 10/10 would recommend his class!
Took NSCI 320 after taking NSCI 100; essentially a review of the material and I actually found it to be easier. Roth is a great professor, so I would recommend him to anyone. Lectures could feel long. As long as you put in the work, you'll do fine. Also gives a good amount of extra credit to balance out the much harder lab pratical.
Dr. Roth is the best professor for this class. Really makes students engage with the material. Expect lots of independent studying. Lab practical was the hardest test, so begin preparing well in advance to have a shot at all. Man is really passionate about what he does, and he helps you with anything you have trouble understanding.
Dr. Roth cares about how his students do in class. He is a pretty funny guy during lecture, but he doesn't actually teach much in lecture. The class is based around you outlining the textbook on your own and then he reviews any questions you have during class. However, if you need help just go to his office hours. He is very nice and gives curves.
roth was the worst. he was recommended by one of my friends and i though that as an intro class it would be easy. it isn't. the "textbook" was a joke & gave no information on brain structures. in class he only lectured if we submitted questions about chapters we had to read. when we had to go online it only got worse and he's kinda rude. avoid him
I took Dr. Roth for NSCI 100 & 320. He is a GEM. He wants students to learn, not memorize. Halfway through 100 I had a D-, but his extra credit & other assignments saved my grade and I ended with a B-. This semester in 320, I knew what to expect up front and I'm currently at an A (in his class, A95%). His class is tough, but he makes it bearable.
Dr. Roth is always a solid choice for any neuro class. Never makes the class too difficult, but at the end of the day the material is difficult and you just have to put in the worth. Gives study guides for every exam just do that and you'll do VERY well. Lab practical will be hard but just study. made this section about zombie brains it was cool.
I had him for 100 and 320. He's really helpful and gives extra credit and advice. It's not an easy A, but if you keep up with the work and get help when you need it- then it is a manageable A. Probably one of my fave professors
Neuroscience is a tough subject but Roth makes it enjoyable and entertaining. This is not my major and I took the class as an elective subject, but I learned so much and have a new interest in this field because of him. His classes were the only ones that I looked forward to attending despite it being over Zoom this semester.
Roth is a great professor. He used an unconventional but interesting textbook. Participation is important and he gives lots of extra credit. The A+ cutoff is higher at a 95. Study and you will do well!
The class is by no means easy but he curves the class average up to a B. If you're an average student, expect at least a B. The exams are most of your grade and you really have to study for them, he gives you a study guide for every exam. Dr. Roth is also hilarious, you'll learn a lot and have a good time as long as you stay on top of studying.
He's totally a good person, I just don't particularly love his teaching style, just not the best for me. Lots of learning outside class and then discussion during. Short timed tests which is annoying because I prefer to take my time. But yeah he's sweet and likes snakes. But that creeps me out a little bit.
This professor was not very understanding with his students. I had medical issues during the semester and was not understanding of these circumstances. His lectures were not informative. He talked about snakes the ENTIRE class and I had to teach myself a great deal of the material.
Professor Roth is a very nice guy! He understands that the overall course is extremely hard and he offers curves. However, it is test heavy and the whole course is cumulative. He also times the exams and makes it extremely stressful to complete the work. Tests are already stressful alone, add a pandemic to it, and 40 minutes to complete 60 mc...
Honestly, he is the worst professor at UD.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. The information is very difficult, and he doesn't help with that fact with the "lectures" he has. The textbook is not an actual textbook, it's a book about zombies that connects to what we need to learn. The worst part is that he sets up his exams where you have 40 secs per question, with no "backsies".
It's not a good class. Very little time for test questions & you can't go back and check. The textbook isn't an actual textbook its a zombie book and the zombie stuff just got annoying after a while. Focused too much on anatomy without ever really reviewing it in class. I don't think I paid attention at all during class but cameras had to be on.
I really enjoyed class with Dr. Roth. It was a challenging class as is inherent with it being an introductory course for a challenging topic. You really have to read the book and study hard if you want to end up with an A+. He gives you an outline from day 1 that has every exam term, concept, and anything outside of the text you need to know.
Decent guy. Whole class is cumulative, there is a lab portion that involves a hard practical exam, he grades participation, you NEED to read the textbook (which is about zombies), and NEED to attend class (he doesn't post his lectures). I hated his teaching style and found it really difficult to learn. Exams were impossible but he curves a lot.
Awesome teacher who really know his stuff. Class was centered around a case study on zombies, so a lot of fun and super interesting. Roth was able to explain complex topics simply. Test were fair. Lots of extra points available, so don't be too daunted by the lab portion
This was one of my favorite classes. His classes have a weird format (you submit questions you have about the reading and most of the class period is spent around answering those questions), but it is really helpful to have a chance to have all of your questions answered. The exams are really easy as long as you review as you go. Highly recommend!!
All exams are cumulative & there's a lab practical with blank answering sheets. Not a very difficult class as long as you study, but I dislike his teaching style. Class is loosely structured and he doesn't share/upload his slides. Plays a lot of zombie movie clips & goes off on irrelevant tangents. Depend on the chapter outlines more than lecture.
Dr. Roth was my favorite teacher. He keeps a loaded-content course easy to manage and the only homework was from the "labs" that we would do to help us prepare for the practical. The practical is the hardest part about this class. The exams are pretty straightforward and are exactly from what is said in class. Doesn't record so attendance necessary
I absolutely loved this class, and the lab portion which was v cool, however Im really interested in Neuro and was willing to put 100% effort into class. Exams are difficult but he gives you everything you need to prepared. He is very personable and sarcastic professor, I really enjoyed lectures, but you have to do readings to understand material.
Dr. Roth is a great teacher if you are willing to put in the work! For each lecture exam, he posts an exact guide of what is going to be on it from each chapter, and you just have to find the definitions in the textbook. The lab practical was easy because we spend 6 classes going over every brain structure in the lab on STARR. 10/10 would recommend
You can tell Dr. Roth is passionate about neuroscience which is great. Be prepared to read the textbook and take notes before lectures since he doesn't go into detail about everything you need to know. He gives out a list of vocabulary and concepts you need to know for each exam which is super helpful. He also gives out 10 extra credit points.
Dr. Roth is a great professor and really passionate about neuroscience. For this class, you definitely have to read the textbook and write detailed notes, but his tests are very fair. I would highly recommend him, he's great!
Dr. Roth always has great lectures and caters the content towards what people need help with. There are three exams, one of which is a neuroanatomy practical, and then the final exam. As long as you follow the chapter checklists and read the material, you should easily get an A. Such a great professor!
Dr. Roth is such a kind human. He loves what he studies and he loves teaching it to us. As a neuroscience major, this class was so fascinating and hugely built the foundation of neuroanatomy that is so so so important. It is a hard class though, it will take work, but it is fair. His study guides explain exactly what you need to know.
Genuinely wants his students to pass and tries to make lectures interesting. You need to read the chapter before class and he basically just answers questions for lecture. The exams are very fair and he adds a curve. Labs are basically for completion and super helpful for the practical. It's a tough course but actually very enjoyable.
I cannot recommend you enough times to NOT take this class with Eric Roth. Exams are impossible and he doesn't teach AT ALL. Save yourself the trouble and take it with someone else if possible, but if you can't avoid it with him, know you need to do well on every assignment and exam to get by. And he considers a class average of 70 to be good...
Dr. Roth is very passionate and wants his students to succeed. He gives various opportunities to boost your grade a bit. The tests and lab practical are super important but the lab experience was the best part of the whole course.
Lectures were unstructured so he goes off topic a lot but he's very knowledgeable and addresses specific questions well if asked. Need to read the "textbook" aka zombie novel but it does help a lot. Exams and practical were pretty challenging, but TAs did exam review sessions and you could go to office hours to review incorrect answers.
Material and tests are challenging, but taking notes from the book and paying attention to lectures helps. Very heavy on neuroanatomy for both the lecture tests and the lab practical. Lectures are structured around student questions which helps clear up topics that are unclear in the book.
Great class to learn about Neuro anatomy and physiology. Themed like the zombie apocalypse, and the textbook is a 12 dollar book so very budget friendly. Difficult course if you have not taken NSCI 100 but highly recommended.
This professor relied on your past knowledge of material, and did not teach what was going to be on the test but relied on you just reading the text box. This made it difficult to know what actually he was going to put on the test and how much of the key terms you needed to understand. It was hard to not teach the basics in a basic level course
Hilarious teacher. Each class is a "discussion" where students submit questions on the chapter they want to be answered and he goes over them. He sends out all the vocab terms for each chapter that you can find in the textbook, and the tests never stray from those lists. Lab practical is the hardest part. Very easy class if you do the vocab!
Dr. Roth's 320H class is extremely similar to his 100H class, down to even the same lab exercises before a practical. He likes to focus more heavily on neuroanatomy. Class is graded primarily by 2 tests (60 MCQ), lab practical, and final (100 MCQ). While the content is a lot, he provides a checklist of the terms and ideas that will be on each test
Great professor, challenging class but manageable. Curves all exams and lab practical so average is a B. Super funny so lecture is always entertaining.
Dr. Roth is extremely passionate about neuroscience. The class has lots of material so be prepared to work. Reading the textbook and taking notes is important. He gives out a study guide explaining what is on the exams. There is extra credit opportunities, & a class curve. I gained a lot of helpful knowledge from this class!
