This guys is great. Makes all his lessons very clear. Adds in some humor too. Messes with the sleepers alot, but all in fun. Makes mistakes on the board occasionally but not a big problem.

testing is extremely fair

The material isn't hard, he explains it well, and he even adds humor. The exams are very fair and are very similar to homework problems, so if you get those, you're guaranteed a good grade. What more could you ask for?

Such a great professor. He's funny and explains everything very well. His tests are usually really easy. Homework is not bad, especially if Vikram is your TA. It shouldn't be hard to do well if you actually go to class. The reviews are also really helpful.

Salathe's an excellent teacher. He focuses on teaching you how to think about the problems, not about memorizing formulas. There's a bit of homework, but it helps you learn the material. His exams are essentially the review sheets with slight differences. He's a funny guy, and you should try very hard to get him for Calc II.

Salathe is the man...he makes lectures funny and comprehensible. Only problem is, I somehow can't keep from nodding during his class, the scheduled time is a little too long. But don't worry, if you get a good night's sleep you'll have lots of fun in calc 22. He's a fairly easy grader and the tests are ridiculously easy. Just do the review sheets!

Best Math Teacher that I've ever had. Even though I've fallen asleep five times that's a result of 7:55 english that day, not his class. He honestly turns Calculus into child's play to understand. He's also one of the funniest professors ever. How can you complain when someone makes calculus fun and easy?

If you're wondering about his accent, it's from the Boston area... my friend asked him after class one day. He's a fair grader. He makes corny jokes but it can keep you awakee if you pay attention. He's good at explaining things if you can follow along. Also, don't fall asleep... he'll call you out.

I came into the class already with credit from BC calc and I learned much easier ways of learning all the material. I strongly recommend his class. Agreed! He's terrific! I am usually terrible when it comes to class attendance but I never ever miss his class!! He makes me want to go to class and I don't hate math anymore! He makes Calc 2 accessible to Eco majors. I would probably cry myself to sleep every night if it weren't for him. Also, why no chili peppers?

Prof Salathe is an awesome professor. You should always attend lectures because he explains problems very clearly. He speaks a little fast, but you get used to it and you can always go to him during office hours to re-explain something you missed.

An extremely nice man and very helpful - take advantage of his office hours if you're stuck.

Speaks fast and has a weird accent, but knows what he's talking about, cracks jokes, and really cares about his students. Will stay after office hours if you arrive when he's supposed to be leaving because he wants to help. Tests are based on the materials given and aren't difficult/don't have surprisingly challenging problems.

Funny and very interesting. Definitely recommend going to his offices. Everything starts to make sense then. Tests are easy and he grades them fairly as well.

Amazing professor. Used cats falling off buildings as an example. One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Tests are easy and answers are simple since a calculator isn't allowed. Takes attendance but not sure if he actually counts all of it.

Wonderful teacher. I remember him after 4 years. Allowed you to correct your test and resubmit it... because the point is to LEARN, not to compete for a grade!

I LOVED Salathe. He was so enthusiastic about what he was teaching. Always wore black pants and would get chalk ALL over them and wipe his hair back so it stuck straight up but never seemed to notice or care because he was so into explaining concepts to students. Tests were VERY straight forward. You can't help but love this man

Salathe was absolutely amazing. I've never seen a teacher use an eraser so vigorously. He was such a comedian and he always spotted people who were dozing off. Great examples, extremely clear explanations and always was open to questions in and out of office hours.

Mathematics, especially calculus has never been more enjoyable in his class. He cracks jokes, makes fun of sleeping people, and does a great job of explaining and simplifying the material for the students, something a good professor does. Highly recommended, needless to say.

Salathe is hilarious. He keeps class fun and interesting. He teaches to the homework and test. He gives good study guides. He teaches little tricks to help, so if you don't have a strong background in algebra/trig/geometry don't worry, he will help!

Only good calc 2 teacher

Best mathematics professor of any kind I've run across. His explanations are simpler than most and yet clarify the material in five minutes better than some professors do in an hour. He is not easy per se, but he is fair, and his tests reflect that -- certainly compared to other professor's tests, they expect only moderate mastery of the material.

Salathe is extremely helpful and fun. His examples are very clear and are meant to interest anyone, including those who do not like math. He is a great professor and always goes above and beyond to help his students.

He does a great job of explaining WHY you do what you do for each problem. Explaining the reasoning behind the steps of the problems made the material much easier to follow and understand. Homework could be very time consuming but was worth it because it was good practice for the exams. Exams consisted of the easier type problems from homeworks.

Hands down best teacher in my entire life. He really teaches you how to derive every formula so much that I never had to study at all. Exams were basically the same exact problems as the review sheets but different numbers. He set up an online textbook on getcalculus. com for only ten bucks. Get that or else you'll buy a 200 some dollar textbook.

He is hands-down the best professor I've had so far. He went through three weeks of class only using one simple integral to derive 14 different equations that nobody had to study because he went into such detail! Who else would make a related rate problem out of diluting the beer in a keg? I would love to have him for all my math classes!

Prof Salathe is a really great calc 2 professor. He's clear, and he really helps you learn the material. What's nice is he shows you where all equations come from, but you don't ever need to prove them. All his quizzes are very straightforward and are very similar to his practice tests. He's really funny in lecture; just don't text or sleep!

Clearest math teacher I've had. He's able to explain topics and concepts very clearly. Go to lectures and pay attention in class and you'll leave with a much more in-depth understanding of calculus. Professor Salathe is THE best in the entire math department of Lehigh. Those who think he's tough need to take a class with some other professors... Be ready to work hard cause calculous can be tricky and confusing at times. But luckily Prof. Salathe gets out of his way to make things clear and fun.

He can be confusing at times; he often loses track of the direction he intends to go with the concept that he is teaching at the moment, but he definitely covers 100% of everything that eventually goes on the test. The tests are a basic assessment of your ability to apply concepts, there are no "tricks" or challenges

The best math instructor I've ever had at any level. I can honestly say he does a superior job of explaining the concepts and develops a genuine understanding of where all the formulas come from as opposed to direct memorization. Also, a hilarious guy so going to class isn't a chore. Obviously, you still need to do your work, this is college.

Professor Salathe is definitely the BEST calculus teacher. His lectures are super fun and detailed. He will always approach you when he finds you're in trouble with some problem, at the same time teach you a lot of related stuff. Also he doesn't let you to memorize formulas, he'll teach you to solve in the way you can understand the best.
