Take this class if you are personally interested in taking a different view of international relations. He comes from a "political psychology" background - with strong russo influences. Class is pretty easy. But don't waste a seat if you're not going to listen - because lectures are worth the time.

I feel bad saying this, but Shiraev makes it clear every class that english is not his first language. He stutters a lot, makes long pauses, and struggles to find words quite often. Extremely easy A, but you won't learn much from his lectures. If you are planning to take this class as an elective or learn best from textbooks and don't plan on coming to classes, then Dr. S may be for you. But, if you are a government student and prefer to learn from lectures, you would be better off taking GOV132 with a different professor.

Class is by no means difficult, but if you learn best from lectures rather than a textbook, I wouldn't recommend. I don't feel as though much is learned during class time, as lectures often result in large discussions that stray from the original topic, which the Professor does nothing to remedy. All quizzes are open note, and HW is doable.

Shiraev's class is not difficult whatsoever. All quizzes and exams are open-note, and he does have make-up arrangements. However, his lectures are not productive, and don't correlate much with the weekly quizzes. If you're interested in IR, and are ready to read the textbook (shows up verbatim on exams), I would take this course.

He is an ok professor. The worst part is that he would put questions on the quiz that we did not learn until the following week. His class requires weekly quizzes but you do not have to attend class to do well on them. He talks about himself a lot and his accent is sometimes difficult to understand which is why I would not take him again.

Dr. Shiraev is a great lecturer and his class is extremely easy. Weekly quizzes/4 exams (all open book) and 2 very simple papers. There is a 5 point optional extra credit paper. He is clearly very experienced and knowledgable, and offers great career advice. Overall a very laid back class, if you put in basic effort you'll get an A.

Shiraev is probably one of the best professors to take, though it depends on what you want to get out of the class. Lectures are funny and honest about career opportunities in IR, but you don't need to attend them to pass. GET THE TEXTBOOK ONLINE, quizzes and exams are open note and verbatim from the book. Easy A if you do the routine assignments.

90% of the class was in weekly quizzes and exams. If you do not thrive in memorizing long textbooks for quizzes I would not recommend this class. His extra credit is what got me as good of a grade as I did. I did not personally enjoy the class, but the professor was really nice, I just wish that he had more ways to learn outside of the quizzes.

Professor Shiraev, despite being very kind and having great dry humor, is very prone to ramble in lectures. Generally, lectures cover basic high school topics, while his quizzes are oddly specific and cryptically worded. Fortunately, his quizzes are open internet (and often verbatim from the textbook) and for the papers he encourages using ChatGPT.

Such a fun class to listen to because of the motivational and funny lectures. Most of the coursework was weekly quizzes (posted on Thursday and due by Saturday at 10 p.m.) or class exams, which you were permitted to take at home or anywhere you wanted to take them. Both had time limits and had a specific time they had to be due, but they were easy.

Awful professor if it's required and not your major. His lectures have little to nothing to do with what the exams are about. Weekly quizzes. Quizzes make no sense and are heavily graded. I stopped going after spring break because I wasn't learning a thing. Recommend any other professor for this class. The TA wasn't helpful either.

Eric Shiraev is a very good professor. Class is not mandatory but highly recommended as he does summarize a lot of the textbook in his lecture. There is only one extra credit opportunity but the immense worth of the opportunity makes up for the lack of extra credit opportunities.

One of the easiest Psychology courses that I have ever taken. Prof Shiraev makes it very clear what he wants us to know for examination as well as making the applied content very course and career practical. While I believe that the content was covered at a semi shallow depth I think I walked away with some good knowledge and classroom practice.
