This isn't your average teacher. His personality is like Jack Black, though I don't know which movies. He plays music while the students work on their assignments, shows us how to write better with examples and ways to show up how to do that. Took an English 101 class with Dr. Stevens he is a nice guy and reminds me of Jack Black he makes class enjoyable and also makes it easy to stay on what we are doing class is a big part of grading and only like 4 or 5 can be missed to pass

I enjoyed this class. He was creative and incorporated the Walking Dead as the whole mold to the course. We were assigned to watch the first season of Fear of the Walking Dead and then assigned to groups that aligned with the affects of a zombie apocalypse. He doesnt believe in textbooks, willing to help if you reach out. Hes laid back.

Eric has a real genuine desire to give to his students. It's expected students have a desire to learn. If you don't and want to float don't take this instructor. You and him will both be irritated. Just do the assignments and use the plethora of resources you have and you'll get an A. YOUR GRADE IS NOT HIS JOB. It's simple, but not easy.

He is a well of knowledge and is pretty funny, understanding and also is straight to the point, no fluff being used. He is motivating to do your best work, and he teaches you how to improve before you submit your final work, definitely recommend.

He is really funny and explains things in ways that make sense. No book is required unlike other Eng 311 classes, which was so nice. There is a lot of writing overall with the papers and writing warm ups in each class. He does a learning log almost daily where you can give feedback on lessons. He really listens to it and makes changes if needed.

This class was not at all what expected, but I mean that in a good way. Instead of writing paper after paper, you spend the whole quarter focused on making and writing about one topic. Just show up to class, participate and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Mostly do essay writing that's due once everyweek, so you have a lot of time to work on it. Do group work or discussion about whatever the professor give you to think or work on during class time. Will once in awhile watch a video relating to what the class is working on.

This was a good class. The teacher really cares that you do well in the class. The 3 main assignments really do help you understand business and the zombie twist helps to have a little fun with difficult assignments. I had Dr. Stephens for ENG100T and i really loved the style of teaching he did. I decided to take him again for ENG101 and it was great. He's kind, and gives good advice on work. However you have to respect him, which isn't hard to do because he deserves it. He's funny so laugh at his jokes! Oh yeah class is also mandatory.

On all of our major assignments, he adds submission comments to us, explaining why we got the grade we did and what we can do to improve them. He takes attendance everyday, and you are graded on participation in class on certain days. I would not miss these. His lectures are very engaging and he makes class fun.

The entire class was about zombies, so if you are in to that kind of thing, this is great. I found the fictional subject to be ridiculous after a while. But he has a modern hip approach to teaching that is refreshing versus some of the geezers that I have had.

I would definitely take a class with him again. If you miss more than four days in the English department you wont pass the class.. its an automatic F. Despite this he made lectures fun and I was excited to go to his class!

Cool way of learning

Very good lectures and desires feedback on how every class went so that way he can make changes throughout the quarter as needed. In fact he did this in my class, it threw us for a curve ball, but it still ended well. There is a lot of writing that needs to be done in this class, but a lot of it ends up being part of the final project.

He is a great professor, he gives out very little homework except for the three papers that he has you do during the quarter. Although you do have multiple weeks to finish these essays'. Dr. Stephens is a tough grader, and has a lot of expectations for final assignments, but gives students a lot of time to work on the assignments, and does peer to peer workshops in class, so there is a lot of time to improve on work. Make sure you save the three days you can miss for good excuses because after 4 absences you get a 0/100 grade.

Be ready to be creative with assignments! There are weekly assignments due so just get them done ahead of time and don't get behind on work!

I'm not usually a big fan of English classes, but i genuinely had a good time in his class. There were a lot of bigger assignments, but as long as you didn't put them off until last second, you would usually do well. This is especially true given how many opportunities you are given in class to do peer reviews to make sure your work is up to par.

For this course you must write a business prospectus and he made it interesting by requiring students to make a product useful in a zombie outbreak.

Dr. Stephens is probably the best professor I've ever had at CWU. He is entertaining and makes his lectures fun and engaging. Be sure to put some effort into your assignments as he is a fair but firm grader. He allows for 3 absences before failing the course so keep that in mind. If I could take any more classes from Dr. Stephens I would no doubt.

Took this class online during the summer quarter which was only six weeks long. The instruction and course material were pretty poor, but on the bright side, I didn't have to buy a 400$ book. The pace of the class is fast and there is a lot of assignments due in a very short amount of time. If you take this class do not take it during summer.

I took Dr. Stephens during summer quarter and I can see how people would perceive him unfavorably but nobody has a personality or skill set that is 'one size fits all.' If you are looking for a compassionate, engaged and realistic professor, look no further! Put the effort in, ask for help and you will succeed. As a professor I think he does great!

I think the comments talking about Dr. Stephens is either condescending as hell or he has made a drastic change in the past year. From the class I take with him, (English 101) I see that the lectures are pretty well formatted, and open to discussion. He seeks recommendations on what he can do if we don't find anything effective, and doesn't bribe.

Each day was something new and something interesting, even if the topic we were covering was boring he tried to get us excited to go over it and learn it. 10/10 :)

Dr Stephens is a really kind man, very helpful and willing make changes to his teaching to make the course more helpful.

Dr. Stephens cares about his students and how well they are understanding the lessons. He takes time to get to know each student and makes the lessons fun and creative. He puts everything on canvas and always leaves good feedback as to how to improve your writing. He can be a tough grader but always explains why you got that grade.

Dr. Stephens really care about how you do in his class, he's always willing to help you just need to put in the effort into reaching out. he is not just a caring professor but a caring person he saw that I was having trouble outside of class and he helped me so much. I would fully recommend him any day. Thank you, Dr Stephens. For everything.

Dr. Stephens is an amazing professor who cares so much for all of his students. This is apparent in how he treats us all and genuinely wants to see us succeed. Multiple times I went to him outside of class for extra help and each and every time he never failed to amaze me at just how helpful he was. Not to mention he is always building people up.

My first impression of him was interesting. I was so nervous for my first class in college, but as soon as he came in, he said something funny, I don't remember what it was but it made me laugh and I wasn't nervous anymore. It was really sweet when he told the class that if anyone needed a place to stay for thanksgiving, they can let him know.

Love Dr. Stephens! He was so helpful via email, and he even met with me outside of class for career advice. My writing and design skills improved noticeably from this course. Thank you!

Dr. Stephens holds his students to a very high standard of excellence. Early in the quarter, I failed a big assignment. I reached out to him to ask for guidance and was very moved by his detailed feedback. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Dr. Stephens and I would recommend that any student take one of his courses.

Hes a great lecturer

Professor Stephens is one of the best professors I have ever had. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who was going to take an English class. I have always felt mediocre in my writing but I learned a lot in this class and he truly cares about your writing, now I feel like a better writer. Prof. Stephens wants you to succeed and not fail. I admire that.

Taking his online class was very nice, all of his assignments on Canvas were very clear and organized. He is very caring towards his students and provides many helpful resources to better your writing in ways that I have never really thought of. Loved this class!
