He's a great teacher. The work was difficult but in the long run it made a difference. His classes are always exciting to be in, and because of this not many students skip his class.
Dude's Crazy!!!!
Someone needs to buy him a crazy bright hawaiian shirt. He needs a little color in his life to go with his very colorful personality.

Eric is a great professor who wants his students to think logically and objectively. He doesn't tolerate laziness or stupidity, so don't think you can slide in this class. He takes his job seriously, but if you show talent he will help you along.
Stephenson is very passionate. He is also very arrogant. It was a great class.
Eric is a wonderful and inspirational instructor, but he's always ready to challenge each and every student that walks through the door. He doesn't tolerate ignorance.
Eric is the Chairman of the English Department, so he knows what's going on. He's one of the best teachers I've ever had, and also one of the most inspiring. Be forewarned--he has zero tolerance for anyone who won't take the time to do the work! He can be very mean if you don't understand, or don't do a good job. So do a good job! He'll reward it.
Challenging, fresh viewpoints and discussions
He's hard on you, but it makes you better at it that way.
Eric is perhaps one of the most enjoyable, ardent, and intellectually profound professors that I have ever had. He has a unique analytical approach, detests mediocrity, and is excessively fair and understanding. Students driven to succeed will do well in his class, those looking for an easy grade will most certainly fail.
The best English teacher.

Eric is by far the best teacher I've ever had. Not only was he the only reason I stayed in school but he helped me find a direction in life. Eric is not so much a teacher to me as a mentor. His passion for language is inspiring and he is one of the few teachers I've ever had who I truly feel like I learn from.
I do not recomend him!
He is extremely intense, but he teaches one more than the average instructor in each class. I was a student of his and moved on to go to UCCS. I use the things he taught me in every paper I write. If you want to learn how to write, he is the teacher for you. I will be forever grateful for the things I learned in his class.
He's extremely tough and rough. Careful how you write or he'll tell it as it is. Other than that he forces information in your head.
Eric is an extremely challenging professor who wants each and every one of his students to succeed and reach their full potential. He can come across as mean and harsh, but he challenges you to do what you never thought you could before. Don't be late for class...ever. If you listen and take all the lessons and advice into your work you will do well. Excellent teacher.
Best writing professor I have ever had! Proves to be a huge benefit to any major! Promise!
This guy doesn't mess around. He's there to teach, and you will glean wisdom from him or die trying.
Very good teacher, with a rather acerbic personality. If you can withstand him, you will learn much more than you anticipated.
You will never learn more about how to write. I learned so much. Eric makes everything understandable. Class is fun but the work is hard. He will let you know what is wrong with your writing and tell you how to fix it. There is no compassion but if you can get over that, you'll do very well. I would definately take him again.
He's arrogant, self-obsessed, spends half the class talking about how awesome he is, and the other half making up words. However, he does teach, and he teaches well. I'm already a fairly accomplished writer, but he has managed to make me more concise and capable. Don't like him as a person, but I would take his class again in a heartbeat.
Stephenson knows what he's doing and takes our education seriously. I learned how to write in his class for the first time in my life, and he demands his students to think for themeselves. 'Nuff said.
Eric Stephenson was by far the most hilarious, offensive, and interesting professor I've had. Every class was exciting (or uncomfortable), and I had a lot of fun with the course even though I don't like lit very much. If you don't know how to write, don't worry, HE WILL TEACH YOU.
He is just the best
I didn't realize how lacking my writing was until I entered this class, but thanks to his help it has really improved. He is tough and dead serious about teaching his subject, but not to the point of being impossible or boring. I look forward to every class.
Brilliant teacher. Probably one of the most passionate people I've ever met. If you plan on being lazy, I feel sorry for you, because he definitely won't let you slide. That being said, he is very entertaining, fair, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. He will even tell you how much he knows.
I was a terrible writer before this class. Eric really taught me how to write a cohesive paper. He was really harsh, though. You have to take his jokes lightly, or he may really hurt your feelings. He singles kids out in class, but is over all a genius writer. You can learn a lot from him. Do your work, this class is not an easy A.
Quite possibly the best English class ever, I learned more in 121 English with Eric Stephenson, than I did with ENG 122. Lecture material was low and completed quickly to get us to the "meat and potatoes" of writing. I did it over summer, the pace was... intense, to be honest, but worth it.
I absolutely Prof. Stephenson. He is insightful and incredibly passionate about what he teaches his students. However, he is not an easy grader. He makes you work but is more than helpful if you need it. I liked him so much I came back for his Shakespeare class. He has you read a lot and there are more class discussions than anything. RECCOMENDED
I love the way he teaches. I took him for ENG121, ENG122, LIT205, & LIT225 and I would continue to take him if I needed more LIT credits. He is well educated on the subjects he teaches. He truly loves literature and you can tell by the way he speaks about writers and their work. You will come out a better writer and you WILL get your money worth.
Eric is an exceptional instructor and truly teaches you how to write at the college level. If you are not a strong writing student you might struggle. But he prepares you very well for ENG 122 and any other class which requires writing papers. I always get an A on any paper I write now and it's because of what he taught me! Highly recommend!!
Great class! Not an easy A, but so worth the effort. Mr. Stephenson is one of those people you really love, or really hate. Either way, you're going to learn a lot. Suck it up, leave your ego at home and just let the arrogant goofball teach you how horrible your writing is. He was right, dammit.
As sad as it may sound, I did not know how to write a paper until I took Eric's class. He is a phenomenal teacher, and really walks you through step-by-step. Your success is his first goal, and he makes it a point to personalize the class so that he grabs your attention. I took this class 2 years ago, I still apply what he taught me to this day.
I have ambiguous feelings for Eric. He is outstanding and a genius. He is fair but you go through lot with him. His tactics are crude and in your face. It can be quite invigorating at times or frustrating as all... He has great passion as a teacher and he cares. If your a pushover you might rethink registering. If you can hold your own, go for it.
When I started with Prof Stephenson, I was going into the circus (Not kidding) and didn't take myself or my studies serious. Now, I'm a cadet in the AFROTC getting ready to go to field training. Quite honestly, I wouldn't have achieved the type of work ethic I apply to my schooling and training without his class. He teaches the idea of quality.
Stephenson can sometimes be a bit harsh, especially if he has to repeat something many times, but he's awesome at giving constructive, positive feedback as well. He won't let you get away with slacking off and he WILL improve your writing!
Eric is one of those teachers who will make himself a pivotal point in your education. I loved writing before I took his class, but I didn't know how to do it until Eric showed me. Now I have the confidence to say that I am a GOOD writer, and I owe thanks for that to this teacher.
This guy is a genius and one of the best professors I ever had.
I wish all of my instructors were as good as Stevenson.
I took ENG 122 almost three years ago. I was terrified of him, I didn't want to turn in my papers, let alone speak in his class. I now realize that he pushed me harder than any other teacher, and I am so thankful for it. The class is not easy, but if you take it seriously and ask for help, this class will change your academic career for the best.
Eric Stephenson did everything he could to help me be successful. He got me published twice and was willing to work with me in order to make sure that my papers were great and as long as I worked with him beforehand, the timelines were subject to change.
A force of nature perfectly describes Eric. He's something else. I love the goof, but prepare for him to talk about football and show his arrogant side a lot. His lectures and activities helped me a lot outside of his classes. He has high standards and don't expect him to let you slide by. One of the reasons I became a better student.
His lectures are fascinating and funny. He's very, very blunt and has made people cry. If you can take it, you'll see that he hates your bad writing because he cares about you and your potential. You'll get feedback from him that you won't anywhere else. The first teacher that I honestly wish I could take again.
if it wernt four PROF E-ROC I wouldnt not now how to rite a good payper he give me high good scores it was awesome take, his, class, ALLTIME yEaH! megusta porfavor! :)
Overall, A+.Prof. Stephenson is a great instructor. Although I took his course online, I felt he was always there to help & answer questions when/if I needed it. Get ready to work for your grade, though-he does grade fairly& gives awesome/helpful feedback. Assignments are clear-cut, but be sure to work hard & follow his feedback & it will pay off.
This teacher does not participate with his students on his online courses nearly as much as other teachers. He did not add into discussion posts and he did not correct papers. He only provided some feedback, but he did not allow for specific examples. It was hopeless to figure out exactly how to improve to get an A. This teacher does not give As.
There aren't really any quizzes/tests. There are only four essays which are fairly easy to do and there are also only four discussion boards. Overall it is a very easy class with minimal work.
Mr. Stephenson is an inspirational Literature teacher. He is competent beyond measure of his material. He is edgy though. I would recommend him to anyone is wants to truly learn. However, he wasn't very structured. We were scheduled to do 4 essays, and we only ended up doing 3. The last essay was only two pages and it was worth 40% of our grade.
Tough grader but well worth it. The entire class grade consisted of only 4 papers and 4 discussions. I had a tough time writing a paper for a different class and I asked him for help and he gladly obligated. He always give feedback and very timely in his responses. Accepts late work, changed my grade on a late paper to an A on last day, giving me A
Eric is very passionate about writing properly and is willing to go step by step to make you a great writer.
Professor Stephenson for sure makes you work for your grade. I really enjoyed his class. He pushed me to become a better writer. The class isn't worth many points so you have to do well on the essays and discussions to get an A. He gives good feedback and helps you grow along the way. Would definitely take again.
Mr. Stephenson is an A+ instructor. I took both 121 and 122 online with him and I couldn't have been more happier. Mr. Stephenson is a hard grader, it took a lot of hard work to get A's in his class but it was very much worth it. He helped me to become a better writer and a critical thinker which will help in the future. highly recommend him.
Prof. Stephenson is an interesting person. He only has 4 essays and 4 discussions, however his grading criteria is vague and he expects little to absolutely no errors to get an A on a paper. I tried to get help via email and he acted as though I was bothering him, and he was sorta rude in his reply back and begrudgingly "helped" me. Avoid if in HS
Professor Stephenson is funny and enjoys getting to know his students. He is helpful and is responds to emails quickly. He is always there to help you if you need it. He expects his students to attend class and do the work. He assigns 4 papers each semester and gives us plenty of time to complete them. He is creative and engaging.
Eric is a really great professor! He gives honest feedback as to what you could do better on your papers, and how to best pass. He also makes sure that you understand the content of the class, and will sometimes stay a little bit late to help you and give you one on one attention.
I took Eric's ENG 121 course online. We had 4 essays due and 4 discussions, about one essay a month. He was clear about what he wants in a paper. Once turned in he provides helpful feedback. If you pay attention to his feedback and improve those things you will succeed in the class. He is very responsive to emails.
Eric Stephenson gives clear grading requirements however, his feedback is not clear or specific. The entire course is graded on discussions and four essays. I would not suggest him as a teacher if you are looking for someone who will teach you outside of a book.
Brilliant teacher. Can be intimidating and very stern. Also can be extremely laid back. I've skated through most all of my classes with easy A's for my academic career, but he has high expectations and made me work for my grade. If you want to better yourself as a writer, take his class. Otherwise stay far away.
I didn't think this man could be more condescending, but I was wrong. He comes across as patronizing and treats students like idiots. His idea of feedback is general at best and then he gets more condescending when his "instructions" are not followed to the letter.
I went back and forth on this teacher. He could be very nice sometimes, but other times would make extremely condescending remarks. Rather tough grader, but not overly so. Mostly left good feedback, but I did have some trouble getting him to explain a formatting error he kept taking off points for even though I followed his instructions.
Stephenson is decent most of the time, but randomly snaps at students and is generally condescending. The entire class is made up of four essays, and his criteria is never clear.
I enjoyed Professor Stephenson. There were only four papers, and four peer reviews. He takes attendance everyday and allows only five absences.. His lectures are great and he provides good feedback on the papers assigned. Getting an A on a paper takes work but getting a B is cake. Adjust your papers based on his feedback and you will succeed.
This is an excellent professor, very professional and easy to communicate with inside and outside of his class. Laid back unless you show up late all the time. He is an Inspiring teacher. I hope I have more professors like him in the future.
Professor Stephenson is a sweetheart who really cares about what he teaches. He gives good feedback but beware there's only 4 papers in this class and that's what you will be graded on. Textbook is definitely not necessary and as long as you put some effort into your assignments you will do well in this class.
A great professor, Took him last fall for ENG 121 and am going to take him again this fall for ENG 122. If you take his feedback into consideration and work on what he suggests you can get an A. I would not go as far to say it is easy, but it is definitely worth the effort. I initial mistake in the class however was not utilizing Perdue OWL more!
One of the best educators at PPCC. His approach might be a little abrassive, but he will challenge you to use higher level thinking. He was never disrespectful in the classes I was in, but he won't sugar coat his message when he holds you accountable to your responsibilities.
He is a very good english teacher
He really cares and wants you to do well!
Eric gives you ample time to write your essays. If you procrastinate, this is not the class for you. To get a good grade in this class you have to write your papers early and revise them every day until it is due. Eric is extremely intelligent, but I agree with others about his sometimes condescending attitude. Nevertheless, he really helped me.
After taking Professor Stephenson for 2 consecutive semesters, I can easily say that he has single-handedly made me enjoy English classes again. My writing has dramatically improved, and so has my ability to structure and write essays. I know I'll be applying everything he has taught me for the rest of my academic pursuit.
I could tell that he truly wanted his students to excel in his class. He replied quickly and was happy to answer questions. He has a real passion for English and writing. He is smart, caring, helpful, fair, and encouraging. He kept me motivated when writing my papers (there were 4). His teaching material was accessible and straight to the point.
Professor Stephenson breaks down papers into manageable chunks and has checkpoints along the way. He is always there to help and wants you to be successful. There were 3 papers as well as discussions every other week, so the volume of material was quite manageable.
Professor Stephenson really took my writing to the next level. I went into his class thinking that I knew everything about writing-- and I came out of it knowing so much more.
Particularly valuable feedback. Almost all of your grade will be based on four papers. Grading standards became more difficult as the class progressed. Be careful the second to last paper carries the most graded weight. Follow his instructions VERY carefully. Does not give extra credit. If you get behind in his class... good luck.
I took his online ENG121 course, and honestly it wasn't that bad. There were four papers and four discussions. The papers weren't hard. Didn't have a lot of interaction with him besides feedback on assignments, but he seems like a nice professor who truly wants to help his students. He does grade hard though; I lost points from small grammar errors
I took an online class over the summer, and it was the easiest class ever. There were 3 papers and 5 discussion posts throughout the semester. He answered any email you had and got everything graded super fast. Definitely recommend this professor!
I tool ENG101/2, got A n B. He is nice. Would give you big essays but after that you won't be scared of any papers. He helps you if you need him. They only thing, him requirement are a bit weird sometimes. Def take if you can.
*This is for his online ENG 1021 Class. There are 4 essays in this class with a nice progression from guided help to independence. He is super good at communication. He gives a 48-hour period for email responses and typically responds quicker than that. He can be a bit nuanced, a typical English teacher, but over time you'll start to get it.
This is not the kind of class where you can crank out a paper the night before it's due and expect to receive an A. I spent a lot of time in the tutoring center for every single paper that was due (there were 4 total) and sent the papers into the OWL as well. I worked extremely hard for the A that I received in this class.
My favorite English professor ever! I 100% recommend this class. He has very clear instructions and grading criteria and he is good at answering any questions. One thing I did not like is the 12 page minimum research paper just because it had over the top amount of citations you needed and also a number of images you needed throughout the paper.
This was one of my first college classes and I couldn't ask for a better professor. I went through a rough event during this class and he made it a bit easier to deal with (school aspect).
