Mr. Svensen has taught in Dartmouth, an Ivy League school, which earned my respect almost immediately. He's pretty laid back and says that the average grade his students receive is a B. He is available for one-on-one time which was very helpful since there were 220 students in my class. Would take him again!
I liked this class. Prof. S was really funny. His lectures are fast and theres a lot of material so its sometimes work to keep up. I really bombed the 1st test but he gave good avise on how to do better which really helped me out.
Very clear with lectures, and super knowledgeable! Helpful with questions, and tests are pretty straight forward, just take notes and pay attention and it is a great course!
He is hilarious! His lectures can be boring but he makes it fun to come to class because he always has everyone laughing. His grading isn't hard. 10 percent is attendance so you need to come to class.
If you arent good at taking test, I wouldnt recommend taking this class. He gives four tests throughout the semester and thats it. No assignments, no homework. He does apply curves to the tests though, but nothing major.
I took this class the first semester of my freshman year and I felt like it was a good course. You can get away with skipping lectures but he gives away extra credit answers and things like that when you least expect it. He will get off topic often and there's always a curve on the tests. Your grade is only based on the 4 tests you take.
Extremely rude and heavy grader. Very particular about grammar inside papers to the extent he will take off points if each paragraph is not indented. Not afraid to belittle individuals in front of the whole class. Would not take again.
Prof. Svensen's presidency class was fun. We had debates and the entire class participated. Some debates were better than others but that was because some students didn't really prepare. What's really great is you have to write two essays and you can choose which ones to do. This really helps is you have allot of midterms that week.
Here's the thing, if you learn the lecture slides you can do really well. I got a 64 on the first test. went to office hrs and he reminded me that the lecture slides are important and I got As on the last 3 test. gives nice curves, like 10 points. Made an A. wish he'd teach texas gov.
This is a great class! You can get an A for half the class with a light amount of work. Lectures are important since he tells you want he wants on the essays. Debates were really fun. We even get to rate and grade the debate teams. Some teams really sucked but there was always a good one to listen to.
He posts powerpoints of each chapter online, but if you want details you need to go to lectures. There is most likely going to be a piece of info left out of powerpoints that could show up on exams. He loves to give exam questions from lists of 4 or more; like if there are 4 bullets on a slide you NEED to know it. Just do well on all exams for an A
Easy class to get an a if you study the lecture slides and terms from the book. He curves every exam. He's also funny. He cracked some joke about a guy missing a leg and it was the funniest. Those who say he's tuff just don't know how to study. He's also very easy to talk to in office hours. It really helps.
This is my favorite class this year. The first test was easy if you follow the slides and lectures are interesting. He's also funny.
Lectures the entire class with the aid of a PowerPoint. He stresses attendance more than reading but reading is still important. He gives 4 Exams no quizzes or other assignments to help your grade if you do badly, so study!!! A bit behind on millennial material, didnt know who Beyoncé was, lol.
This class is an easy A. everything he asks is on the slides. if you can't get an a in this class then your not trying. curves are also insanely big.
He's a great professor. Lectures the whole time and post the power points on blackboard. He tells you exactly what questions he's going to ask, gives you the bonus question, and bases the test exactly off of his power-points. There's only 4 test and they're only 25 question's long with a bonus question. Easy A.
Uses power points that are on blackboard, says exactly what questions he's going to ask from each slide and where the bonus question answer is going to be. Print slides, go to class and highlight the material he says he will ask questions over, I've never used the textbook and got above a 100 on every test and I did skip a few classes in between.
Easy class if you follow what he's saying. He tells you what's going to be on the tests. I mean, how can you lose with this guy. He's also smart and know his stuff.
He is a funny professor, and is generally very helpful when it comes it exams. They are a bit challenging if you do not study.
Easy class if you study. Just follow the slides and your set. He also gives big curves.
Took the final yesterday and it was exactly like he said. Cumulative part is hard but I still got over a hundred with the curve. He tells you exactly whats on exam.
If you come to class he seems to take care of students. I was a high B and wound of getting an A. He does nothing for students who never show up. They're annoying. Before the prof shows up with the exam all the students who never show up complain about how the exams have questions he talks about in lecture.
Great online course. He doesn't require weekly assignments so you have the flexibility to do your term paper and balance your assigned reading project with a busy life. The online discussions were a great way to meet him and other students and discuss material like a real class. I would take his presidency class next year.
I found this class hard. Government is not really my thing. Prof. S did make the class enjoyable. He was very nice in his office and really helped me since I was struggling. You really have to go to class and follow along so you can be prepared. His curves and extra points really saved me. Would have gotten a D but finished with a B.
He is the worst professor I have ever had!! I took him over Summer 2 so I can get my GE classes out of the way, he gives SOOO much work for a 4 week close and he only grades the tests!!! He is horrible!!!!!!!!
This is a fairly easy online class for American government. Just watch the videos and study the lecture slides and the tests follow the slides. There are 25 questions on four tests each test weighted evenly.
This was fairly easy class. Easy A. 100s on all test.
Just finished the second exam and I can say that this is my favorite class so far at Sam. This is the one class I want to go to and never miss out. Crazy high curves though I don't need them.
This class can be a very easy class if you pay attention. Attendance is not taken, but I definitely recommend going to class. There are 4 exams and discussions in between exams. Discussions are easy just put in effort. He also curves the exam grades based on the highest grade. Textbook is helpful, but you don't need it. Copy in library if you do.
Once you pay attention, this class is so easy. He gives you everything. Did OK on the first exam. But aced the next two. With the big curves I'm course to get an A. This is now my favorite class this semester. Please prof. S teach TX gov't!
A great professor. Very funny guy. His lectures are kind of boring but he makes jokes a lot to help cover the boring criteria. There are discussion assignments but they are not hard so as long as you do those and study for the tests, you're golden. He does not give a test review. There are no extra credit opportunities available.
Great class! Everyone has to participate in a debate where the class picks the winner. My side lost, but it was still fun. There are also two essays. He gives the questions a week in advance.
Really great teacher! Hes really funny and as long as you pay attention and know everything on the slides, youll get an easy A. Attendance isnt mandatory but he gives a lot of exam questions in class when going over the slides.
He is hilarious first of all. Definitely my sassiest professor. It is a boring subject, but he tries his best to make it interesting and funny. He doesn't take attendance, and you don't really have to show up since he posts his powerpoints online and that is what his tests are based off of! Great professor! I hope I have him again.
I personally loved this professor and found his class to be so easy. I took him in the fall and he only counted attendance once ( however apparently he counts more now ). If you show up he tells you everything that will be on the test and gives you the bonus question and the answers too. He has VERY high curves, at least 10 points.
He gives only 3 exams & the final so your grade is not based off of much. Personally Im not good at anything Government but he allows you to come in during office hours & will help you with specific test questions. His lectures can get long but he cracks a joke or a weird convo here & there to make it fun. He gives a BIG curve usually so thats good
good luck. 3 exams & a final. THATS IT. he basically sets you up for failure. He says know everything, reviews are garbage his exams are hard & understanding the material from the slide are easy. Studying isnt a problem for me but its all about guessing right. He is funny & gives a review session before the exam. Office hours help though.
I took him online, lesson quizzes are easy. His tests are very hard. You really need to read the lessons and understand them to get good grade on the tests. He does curve , which is good.
This is an easy class. As long as your prepared you can ace the test.
Four units and four exams, that's it. Watch his lecture videos as he will say what content is important and what is not. He will also state if content will be on the exam.
Easy online class. The lectures guide you and you can use the book on exams.
This was an easy class. I liked his voice and his lecture videos pointed me to the test answers.
Dr. Svensen is a good professor who really aims to better his students through challenging them. I found it difficult to overcome the threshold from A to A+, but overall a good experience.
There's only four tests and they cover a lot of material. Pay attention to the lectures. His study guides will lay out the important stuff. You can't just know the definitions, you'll need to apply them. Tests are multiple choice.
This was a great online graduate course. I loved the diversity of readings and the discussion forum where students interacted with each other.
This is easy. I take the exam with my notes and get an A every time. I just finished the class a week early since all I needed was my notes.
Easy class! Just make sure you actually read and you can get an A. I took him online and lets you use your notes!
Uncooperative, sarcastic, and unprofessional.
This is an easy class. Everything you need are in the lecture slides since he tells you wants on the exams in the videos.
He makes you work for it, especially in getting your paper argument right, but he's very helpful. There are a lot of readings but most are good. I really learned a lot.
He wasnt that bad I guess. He gave me anxiety so I never really went in-person. He gave you extra points on your grade if you had perfect attendance. Our class chose to take online test which meant our test were based on the PowerPoint lectures rather than our text book.
Easy class. Exam was online and lecture followed the book.
His lectures arent very engaging. Not a horrible prof, but not my favorite at all. It makes it hard for me to focus, personally. Its not a hard class, but he can be overly sarcastic and makes me feel stupid. Just my personal opinion.
Easy class. Exams are online. He is also funny.
Nice class. He's a nice guy and the material is easy. Online exams and random attendance on blackboard.
He's an okay professor, take him to get an A. Most information for tests can be found within his PowerPoints online. So, attendance isn't technically mandatory. Online tests and random online attendance surveys for extra credit. Do NOT buy the textbook.
I didn't think I'd like the class but I did. Four exams and Blackboard surveys for attendence. Tests are online and all you need are the slides. He's gets right to the point.
He knows what he's talking about and the material makes sense. The exams are the only grades and there are 10 easy extra credit points if needed. The lecture slides are on blackboard, but a lot of the test questions are from the lecture. He wastes a lot of time and says outlandish things, but he's very helpful and responsive with questions.
I liked the class and it wasnt too difficult. He's funny so that helps. He also tells you what to look out for on the tests.
This was my favorite class this year. One class presentation and three exams. He also takes attend. for your participation grade. A very interesting class! One of the better one I have taken.
He is a great professor. Only has 4 exams as grades but if you attend his class he goes over what is on the exam as he goes through his lecture slides. Attendance is not mandatory but is extra credit. He would like for you to read the textbook but I didn't and I got by just fine with an A as his tests are based off his lecture slides.
Coming from someone who never studied in high school, get ready because this class totally whooped my butt this semester. You will not pass this class unless you put in max effort to study and know the material inside and out. Attendance gets you up to 10 bonus points on your final grade which is only based on 4 exams. FORM A STUDY GROUP!
I had a difficult first semester at Sam and found it hard as a freshman. This was the one class I found I could do well in. He is funny and he tells you what is on the exams. Show up and you get ten extra points to your final grade.
the only grades you'll get is the test grades, and he does take attendance for extra credit. His class is very very boring. He does go over the contents of the test before taking them (like a little review).
All tests come from the lecture slides. Just make sure to pay attention when he says something is important since those tips are always on the test.
My best class this semester. Follow what he says during lecture and it's easy. Three exams and a final with attendance checks.
Get ready to read and review those readings each week. One good thing about all the readings is many of them are very interesting. Some are real good. Grading is clear and reasonable. Four exams that cover three weeks worth of material. If you can get past the amount of readings, you'll find the subject matter very interesting.
He is extremely funny and makes class enjoyable, however, his grading policy is what screws you over. He gives you 3 tests and that is it. If you miss a few lectures you wont pass the test. I passed 2 of my tests and scored a 67 on the last one and ended class with a C. His tests are extremely heavy on the knowledge given in the lecture. Good luck!
Very knowledgeable, responsive and funny. Take his class, you will learn so much.
This professor is amazing. He is very strict about talking in class but he's also very funny, and you are more than likely to pass his class as long as you pay attention and take notes. He does only grade off of four tests, and attendance is 10% of your grade, but this is more than doable if you just attend and listen.
Great class. Just follow along with what he says and your set. Most exam questions come from the slides.
My favorite class yet. Three exams, one presentation, and attendance are all you are graded on but he is a very easy grader. You get the exam questions a week in advance and you know your presentation topic way in advance. Some of the best lectures and discussions I've had a Sam.
This class was so hard but so good. The only downside is the amount of work for 4 weeks is almost impossible. But I did learn more than I ever thought I would.
This was a nice summer class for an easy A.
There are 3 tests and a final, but absolutely nothing to worry about with this guy! His tests are open note and online. Also, he does 10 random attendance days which are 1 point each towards your final grade. You can earn up to 10 points which will bring your final grade up a whole letter grade if you make all the attendance days! Take his class!!
Dr. Svensen was an amazing professor to have! Not only is he funny during his lectures, but he is very clear about what is on the exams and what to look out for. In terms of grades there are only three exams and the final, but all of the information comes from slideshows, so the book isn't necessary. Overall I highly recommend Dr. Svensen.
Eric Svensen was an amazing professor. You don't really need to use the textbook at all to do very well on his exams. Most of the questions come from what he talks about in class, but mainly from the slides themselves. He's very straightforward with the material, and is very funny.
The class itself isn't necessarily hard. It is extremely important that you attend the lectures. He goes over a lot of material and always seem to get sidetracked. He can be pretty cool, nice sense of humor. Personally I couldn't learn from him, however he also does special attendance days for extra points towards your grade so go to the lectures.
The prof i've had yet. Lots of reading but he is an easy grader. Take him. You will not be disappointed.
Great class. On of the best online classes yet. He gives the questions two weeks early, so theres plenty of time to do good.
Amount of reading each week was pretty overwhelming (and I read quickly). The amount of reading might be so bad if there was some sort of ebb and flow...but it's pretty much nonstop Grading seems arbitrary. One of those "there's no such thing as perfect" graders, so the highest you'll get on any assignment (even discussion boards) is 95 or 97.
Best class ever!
The least stressful and easy to follow class I've had so far. Take him if you can.
I never figured a class about political parties could be this interesting. The three weeks on ideology were the best.
