He is a nice man, that maintains order in his classroom (military background). He is very fair with his grading, but does require students to wear lab coats(others don't require coats). He is very nice and quite funny if you give him respect and are friendly towards him.
Easy and fair as long as you get your worksheets done. Big on safety though, will deduct points for safety glasses, sandals, etc.
Watch out nursing majors because he's gonna tell you he's not there to 'pass you.' Though he does do interesting experiments his test are really super hard. Good luck. I dropped and will take it with a different teacher.
He will scare you the first day of class but he is a really nice guy once you get to know him. His lab is not bad as long as you respect him and follow the lab carefully. I would definitely recommend taking him for this lab, but NOT for a lecture course!
He kept the lab interesting and was very clear
He's a very interesting teacher and he gives alot of examples to relate Chem to your life, it helps you understand alot more. Keep your cool during his tests and dont think too hard,,you'll do fine!
Not as tough as he initially presents himself to be. He notices the students that do pay attention and tries his best to make the course an intensive learning experience. After taking Sorrenson, he is a godsend.
We learned sooo much and I am glad that I took this class

this is the suckiest chem teacher you could ever have!!! dont take his class ever!
WOW. This was like drill sargent from hell. I took his class my first semester and was blown out of the water. He thought that he was the only teacher that anyone had and that we should devote our lives studying for his class. Enjoy eating, sleeping, and living chemistry if you take his class. He was outrageous with the things he wanted you to know. His tests were just way too hard for even a chemist to take. Do not take this class if you are taking other classes that you need to study for or pass.

Dr. Taylor presents himself as being very difficult at the beginning of the course, but he will answer any questions presented in class, and give review days before his tests. Don't out-think yourself in the test, and you'll do fine. He is a fair guy, and very glad to present you his knowledge, as long as you are respectful.
This is quite possibly the hardest and most blunt teacher you will ever encounter in your college career. They say he's been on probation for over 3 years because he grades so hard.
Very difficult and doesn't explain the material very well. I suggest taking another teacher. TOO MUCH STRESS IN THIS CLASS!!!!
the only way i made it through the class was by referring to old tests. he'll emphasize certain things in class and then ask COMPLETELY different questions on the test. He's an interesting teacher and very willing to help if you go to his office hours, his tests are just incredibly difficult to prepare for.
just horrible; DONT TAKE THIS MAN EVERRRRR!
Everything this man taught I will probably always remember. He is VERY hard but not impossible to pass. Study daily and ask him for help if you dont understand. Do your best not to drop his class, he rewards you and respects you more for not giving up.
Crazy hard
GET ANOTHER TEACHER!!! For nursing majors I suggest taking Lenord if you can. This man is VERY HARD! He will teach one thing in class and tell you to study it, then the test will be totally different material.
He is MAD HARD!! Very fun Professior JUST REALLY REALLY HARD!!!!!!!!!!! Be Prepared to work your @$$ off in his class
Just awesome
He's an alright teacher, but the test are about him and how smart he is not about how well the students knows the info. Gives good notes but doesn't test on them. Would not recommend him unless you want to be part of his egotistical games
Extremely hard; is willing to help in some ways, but makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. I have taken his class and failed terribly, but taken another teacher and did fine. DON'T TAKE DR. TAYLOR unless you want to spend your summer taking chemistry!!!
Terrible horrible no good very bad teacher. This is a freshmen level course and should be taught as such! Very hard and never willing to help. No tests, but takes lots of points off for random things. Get anyone else but Taylor.
Very high drop rate. This man is insanely hard. He is an excellent professor and he knows his chemistry but his tests do not reflect what he covers in class. And what does, he expects you to take that extra step. Not only do you have to learn the chemistry but he expects you to out think it. Very Stressful Class!!!!!
Every week two pre-labs and two labs were due. He takes off crazy points for everything. If a lab was 5 questions with a graph included he would give you a 4 out of 10, even if all the problems were right. He told us we had to do a notebook 3 weeks into lab and told us 2 weeks before due that we should have done it daily or not turn it in at all.
Although he was very willing to help me whenever I needed, his class is very hard. If I were you, I'd wait and take it w/ Leonard. I hear she's great. His tests don't reflect the lectures. Just don't take this class with him!
He is a jerk and could care less about his students. His lectures are broad and his tests are specific. He throws tricky questions in on the tests to "knock your confidence" a little because he is just that type of teacher. I am sure he is a fine chemist but quite the opposite in terms of a teacher.
If you passed this class with a B or higher you probably have an excellent understanding of chemistry on this level. Extremely tough class but you will know what you are talking about when you leave this class. He demands that you not only know the material, but understand it completly as well.
VERY HARD!! try to avoid him if you can. if you have to take him, dont miss class-ever! ask questions, he will try to help, but i think he's too smart to explain on an average level. stick it out, don't quit, and you'll likely pass, no matter what you really have. started w/ 90people in class, ended w/ 20!
he is so hard. he expects you to know way more than what he goes over in class or even in the accompanying section of the book. learn the background on every word that comes out of his mouth. terrible/
This guy is a jerk. He encourages you to talk to him but it won't help. His tests are very broad and unless you memorize the book you will fail. 90 people signed up for the class and 9 people took the final, and he still failed me... I was 3 points from a C. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!!!
Dr. Taylor is a very intelligent man, but he does not know how to get down on a student's level to teach. I made an A in his class, but it gave me a semester-long headache. His class is not easy.
One of the most intelligent men you'll ever meet! His class is difficult, but if you go to class, pay attention to lecture, and do anything he assigns, you should do fine. After this class you'll definitely have a better understanding of Chemistry. He is alot better than the other 107 teachers( i should know i had them), you'll learn all you need t
i Learned alot he is a good teacher... but that is where it ends his test are 2 long and are not on information covered in class... 4.0 student got a D
Heartless. Exams are tough, even with many hours of studying. He goes over everything once so be prepared with your book.
He is the worst professor I have ever had. Very educated man but has a tendency to patronize his students .He lectures VERY quickly and his test don't reflect the notes. My biggest complaint is that the questions on his exam are so vague it is very difficult to know which answer he wants. I have never failed a course until now ;-(
Took him for the Chem 115 Lab. It was pretty easy, but you got to know your Chem 107 & 108 stuff. Most of the Experiments are boring, but the good thing is that this class ends 2 weeks before the sem. does.
Lectures are easy to follow and non-technical, but if you want to learn, take someone else. Doesn't know about math, physics, or theory behind chemistry; he's an arrogant, military-trained knucklehead. His class is easy if you follow this: don't answer the questions as they're written on the test, answer based on what you think he's trying to ask.
For a 101 class, I'd def. suggest taking him. I was hesitant when I first read his ratings on here.. but he is a better teacher than you think, and yes, he does care about his students. He WANTS you to pass, and understands that 101 students are NOT chem. majors.
Test questions are killer. He tricks you by saying that you must be confident in your answers or you will get them wrong.
he is a horrible teacher. it is difficult to pass this class and is a waste of time to attend. i don't reccommend that anyone takes this class.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH TAYLOR! It will be way more difficult than it should be just because he's a jerk. He takes off points for NO REASON. Once he put "V. Good, -1" on an answer even though I got it right. He is arrogant even though when you go to him for help, he is useless. Save yourself a long headache and take it with someone else.
Do not let the negative comments scare you. Dr. Taylor is an excellent teacher and he will help you. He makes sure you understand everything before he moves on, you jus have to make sure you respect him and attend class. I repeat this is NOT a class you can skip and pass! If you take his class you will be well prepared for microbiology!! TAKE HIM!!
At first, he comes off as this arrogant guy who dares anyone to challenge his intelligence in class. But, after he sees that he's only making people drop and fail with his ridiculous tests, and poor style of teaching, he does changes his methods. I strongly advise no one to take any chem 108 in the summer because there's just so much to learn.
Don't Take the class if u can. If your situation is just as mine was that u need to take the class. Take the class only in summer.cause it will take your whole summer. This teacher doesn't know how to teach and how to grade. He needs to go back to high school to learn maths for sure.I think he bought his PHD degree from some Chinese Market.
OK guys, I'm an engineer and this is the only class i dropped (was passing w/ a "C"). I graduated w/ 3.97 (B on history 101 on my last semester). He can use metric the whole class and then use English units in the test (for chemistry this sucks). However, if you can dominate both systems you are in good shape. You definitely need to be prepared
Well just bombed one of his ridiculously hard test! About 5 questions were never taught and not in the book either. He is a nice man but assumes that everyone knows what he's talking about! Take someone else if you can.
Nice guy but JEEZ could you grade any harder?? I didn't miss a single lab, spent at least 6-8 hours a week doing outside prep work and there is no way I can make any higher than a B. Take ANYONE ELSE if your gpa is an issue for you.
He is a nice professor, but his grading sucks. Do not take him. Wait if you have to and get another professor. Rarely got 10/10 on labs. Did not understand why he took off the amount of points that he did. I wasted my time trying to make a good grade. Impossible.
Dr. Taylor is one of the most challenging teacher I have ever had, do not get lazy, attend every class, visit his office, ask questions and study every day. He comes off sarcastic and laid back, but his test are extremely hard. I never worked so hard for a B in my life.
Dr Taylor is a nice guy but a bad teacher. Demands too much. He will take off points arbitrarily and has no scale when grading. He will give you what he feels you deserve with no justification. He will takes points off if your wrong and give bonus points if its a perfect answer (must be to the decimal), so you can never get 100 on a lab.
Love this professor! I don't get all the negative comments. He is challenging and makes you work for your grade, but is helpful and a very nice person! Would love to have him for all my chem classes. Grading is a little irregular. If you can find somebody who already took the lab, ask for their manuel to help guide your calculations.

Very sincere man- wants students to shine. No question is too elementary...never shames the student - says ask. Says never give up - everytime it's hard, he just knows to encourage the group. Great communication skills....super nice guy. Only time he's strict is if student is disrespectful by coming in late. He's honest, fair, READ book/practice
Hardest teacher I have had so far. Dropped the class a month in. You must attend class. He is very sarcastic. Either you love him or you hate him. Brags about how many people drop his class. He seems like he wants to help, but doesn't quite get there. This is the course that made me change my major.
Dr. Taylor is the hardest professor I've had so far. This class is challenging and requires A LOT of studying. You MUST read the book and understand EVERYTHING, not just the material covered in class. I've never worked so hard for a B in my entire life! Even if you understand all material, do not underestimate the tests. Questions are difficult.
He made this class a lot harder & confusing than it needed to be. I worked my ass off for this class & am surprised I even passed with a C, because his tests are so hard.
Don't take the class if Dr. Taylor is teaching, DROP IT or sign up for another class. The most strict grader ever, no partial credit. If the answer isn't what he wants it is wrong, sometimes the book will differ from what he says also which can get confusing. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS WITH DR. ERIC TAYLOR AT UL.
Hands down the worst chemistry professor at UL. He made multiple mistakes on his exams and really doesn't fully know how to teach chem108. Its time for this guy to retire from teaching.
He is not that bad. His personality is intense if anything. He is pretty straightforward and uses the book a lot. There is no partial credit on the test. The tests are fill in blank and m/c. When he does make mistakes, he gives the class the points. He's a fair teacher.
He makes this class way harder than it has to be. DON'T TAKE HIM. I studied and went to tutoring but it didn't matter because how he formats his questions are so confusing!!
Pretty cool guy to take lab with. Grades pretty tough and is picky though, so I would recommend getting old labs to guide you. Likes to joke around and have fun with his students but takes safety and lab procedure very seriously. Gives quizzes sporadically so always read the lab before class. Maybe not the best, but not as bad as he appears
Dr. Taylor makes this class harder than it needs to be. Do not skip classes and except a decent grade. Go to tutoring if you can and ask questions when you don't understand something. He words his tests very confusing and isn't clear on what he wants you to put as the answer.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This class was challenging, but not in a good way. He gives so much information in lecture and you can study everything he said in class, but half of it won't even be on the test. I learned interesting things that have nothing to do with chemistry and i like him as a person, but it is not worth it. I worked so hard for my C.
This class was very challenging, but Dr. T always reviews before the test and welcomes questions during and outside of class. While he is a tough professor, his class is passable if you really work hard for it.
The above comments are misleading; it seems like they expect this Taylor to dumb things down. This man is foremost a biochemist and you will be fully aware of that when you listen to his profound understanding of the subject. He is an excellent teacher and he makes a course that is inherently difficult to understand comprehensible. Just study.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! I studied for HOURS for the first test and failed. Then, when he gave the test backed told us that some of us should change our majors. VERY discouraging and overall a HORRIBLE teacher. Do not take if you want to pass this class
Class was very difficult, but he genuinely wants to help. I was fighting to pass all semester but ended up with an A. The gives the hardest tests i've ever taken, but because most people fail them, he gives other opportunities to make up for it. He is kind of intimidating, but willing to help. Never miss class or a review!
Dr. Taylor was honestly not a bad lab professor. He did give a few pop quizzes, so make sure you read the labs before class. He makes jokes and knows what he's talking about, but sometimes can be hard to hear. He's big on safety procedures as well. Get someone's old lab book and someone's number and you'll be fine.
Get a front seat if you want to hear him speak!!!
Dr. Taylor really tries, but he moves very fast. I made the mistake of taking him Tues. and Thurs. so it was even faster... His test questions are over 9000 in my opinion. Not like the homework. However, he will help you out via take home quiz or test and holds review sessions after class where he covers things a lot slower. Tough class.
Dr. Taylor is a tough teacher. His tests are hard and you have to know both the topics and how to apply for each question. He did study sessions to help us better understand complex problems or just help in general. But his final is very easy, especially compare to his normal test. You should only take Taylor if you can handle tough tests.
He is very lecture heavy. There are only 3 exams and he drops the lowest grade. His exams are extremely difficult, but if you study hard enough, you can get a good grade. You must go to class and pay attention.
I would highly recommend never taking this proffesor. His test are ridiculously hard and he does not give partial credit. At the end of the semester, he gave opportunies to learn more with him outside the class room. He took attendence at these meetings, but it did not count for anything or improve your grade.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Anything you read, majority of his test questions are above the level than what it should be. You have an hour and 15 minutes to take a test that's half multiple choice and half problem questions. The problem questions are very complex that require a lot of math. Not worth your time. Take a different teacher!!!!!
Do not take this man, drop the class, probably the worst chem prof in the south. Does not care about his students, questions are incredibly hard and not clear sometimes as to what he wanted, working problems from the book didn't, that's how unnecessarily hard his questions were. Save your GPA and your time, just drop the class.
I had him for Chem 107 and again in 108 because our other professor busted his knee. I went to the study sessions after class and before tests. The problems in the book are simple and his tests problems are out of this world. He is very old school and likes to say "in my day." Do not take his class. Save your time and GPA.
My experience was not the best. His lectures were not clear at all. If you sit in the back of the lecture room, you won't pay attention because you can barely hear him. He is a very tough grader. If you are off 1 number of an equation, you got the whole problem wrong.
Do not take this class if at all possible!
Dr. Taylor has a bad reputation but he is very willing to help his students, you just have to be ready to work for your grade. If you go to his office he is more than willing to explain things in a way that is easier to understand. There's 3 tests and a final but he drops the lowest grade. Take him if you really want to understand the material.
I loved his class. He's really nice and likes when people go to his office. He is VERY willing to help his students. An A or B is definitely possible, but only if you're willing to study enough.
Buckle up. Class is lecture based and he blows through material fast. A lot of memorization. Very soft spoken so grab a seat in the front. Prepare to read the book.
Do not recommend
It really doesn't matter how well you understand his material, passing his exams are nearly impossible. Compared to his "practice problems", his test questions are miles above in difficulty and often poorly worded. Your answer must be absolutely perfect, otherwise you're not getting the points. Be prepared to fight for a passing grade.
Chemistry was my favorite subject before this class. The material on the test was way harder than what was taught in class. Gave a take-home test that was nearly impossible to pass. Overall could not wait until I got out of this class.
real hard, don't take if you don't wanna study consistently from start of semester to end
Whenever tests were given back the class would find at least 6 questions that were wrong. I made a 54 on the third test when it was actually supposed to be an 74. Very careless and unprofessional in my opinion. Likes to make the questions wordy and hard to understand for no reason at all. Though willing to help students, would not recommend.
Dr. Taylor has single-handedly made me hate the subject of chemistry. He flies through the material insanely fast and he has no idea how to make information more understandable. His tests are impossibly hard (there is almost no way to pass them) and the problems are nothing like what you work in class or for homework. Do NOT take this professor!!!
Dr. Taylor's lab was a nightmare. If u got calculations wrong, he would deduct points by accuracy. If u were off by 50%, he would take 3 or more points off ur lab work, which is a 7/10. He almost failed me because he didnt know how to properly open emails. If u were a 3 minutes late, he wouldnt let u do the lab. Literally, the worst professor at UL
Do not take him. The lectures are completely irrelevant to the test. We went over tests in class and he marked questions wrong that were right.
