The man's PhD supervisor won a Nobel Prize. It's safe to say Prof. Terry knows his stuff. He's approachable and friendly even if the puns are a bit corny at times! Be warned: Take this course only if you want to LEARN. If you want a 'bird course' take something else. Your grade will reflect your commitment, effort and "retained learnings".
Easy class, its a joke. I bet Terry wrote the first comment. HE wishes his class could be hard but everyone gets atleast a B.
This course requires one to work hard to earn their grade. I guess some people would say it's easy, but if you don't show up to class and do the homework, then you are screwed! Guaranteed. I did well cause I worked hard, but some people in my class didn't. So it's not THAT easy, unless you put the effort into it.
insanely unreasonable, marks very hard and vague on assignments. exams and quizzes are tricky if you dont listen to every word in class as he purposely tries to trick you. very mean and likes to call people stupid. thinks hes so much smarter then U of T people. highly unrecommended.
HORRIBLE Avoid like the plague! He makes you buy an overpriced book, then tells you not to use it and literally makes a fool out of anyone who does use it. He has a 'holier than thou' attitude which isn't necessary when you're paying so much for a course. AVOID THIS GUY take ANYONE ELSE for your finance courses.
his quizzes and assignments will kill your mark. scored ok on midterm and final but the quizzes and assignments brought me down big time. he makes them SUPER hard. you have to read the text and goto every class and take notes. not an easy course at all. mean guy overall.
One of the BEST PROFs ever, I actually learned something in his class. The man taught at Wharton so he knows his stuff. He works you like a horse and makes you to think outside the box (like the real world). Would definitly recommend him to those who want to learn and earn big bucks in finance. People who gave him a low rating are probably slackers
Great teacher. If you want to actually learn and understand the subject his class is one to take. I would recommend him for FIN601 as well since this course uses a ton of material from 601 (if you understand stuff covered in that course you will have easier time with FIN801).
VERY hard, but believe me it is a good course to take if you are going into investments!! He is not THAT bad, but he's hard.
Easily a top 2 prof in Ryerson finance. Classes are powerpoint with lots of in class examples. Problem sets are challenging to some, so ensure you seek extra help. Homework questions assigned each class and taken up the next class. A very knowledgeable prof with an extremely helpful learning style. Made this relatively difficult course easy.
Absolutely incredible prof! He is very enthusiastic about course material which makes the class much more engaging and interesting. Material is somewhat advanced, but will come very easy if you are numerically inclined. Overall, he is one of the best finance profs at Ryerson!
book is useless. Course is difficult study for it, prof will not give you a mark you dont deserve you have to earn it. Expect to be bell curved, however only the smartest of the smart get A's. So i Guess go for help if you need it do not hesitate since he does help you out alot but dont be a slacker and expect a B or even a C . you just wont get it
An absolute asset to Ryerson. If you are keen on Finance, you gotta take this course. It's challenging but it's one of few courses I feel that can truly benefit my career.
Stop commenting on yourself Terry.....DAM....All positive reviews are LIES
Horrible prof, suggests you buy the very expensive book then tells you its useless. Very full of himself and does not prepare students for the midterm. Treats students like they are in highschool with seating plans and prof made groups for the assignment which he gives no direction and then laughs and points when students mess up. Avoid this maniac
First off all the positive comments are either by him or his "grade 5" son. He gets off by tricking students and making very rude comments all the time. You need to relax there Terry, if you were such a hedge specialist you'd be doing big time on Wallstreet, not teaching for $100k a year. If he teaches 601, DONT TAKE IT (from student with high GPA)
he's my favorite finance prof so far. He's enthusiastic about the material and he puts in a huge effort to teach it. His midterm IS tricky like everyone says, but keep up and do your work it isn't bad at all! I don't like how he jumps around the book, but I still read everything.. it's helpful. If you like investments take him. awesome book too
his notes and slides are as useless as he is. he'll teach you one thing in lecture and test you on completely different concepts.he'll intentionally trick you on tests without giving fair warning during class. i don't know why we're spending thousands to hire people that cannot teach.
Eric Terry is without a doubt, not only a funny professor who makes class worth attending each friday, but he is also very helpful. for example, when i didn't understand a particular concept, i came into his office and he ensured that i knew what the concept was. as for testability, midterm and final are both fair. couldn't ask for a better prof.
Good prof. His antics and humor in class should keep you awake. You will learn he has a few catch phrases "What to do." Attend his class at all costs since he takes up assigned problems, and does a good job at helping students understand. Midterms and Final can be tricky so study hard.
Interesting class but the midterm and final exams are VERY TOUGH.
Eric isn't as bad as some people said. Just make sure you attend his class because he will cover all the important materials during lecture. Midterms and finals are TOUGH make sure you study for it.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES FIN 521 and 601 will ruin your GPA!!!
Terry is a good prof. Pay attention & go to class. If you have any questions, he will try his best to help you. Wish there were more practice questions! Slides are extremely useful. Midterms & final were tough.
I liked his sense of humour and he is always cheerful. However, he doesn't explain the formulas and the math very well, just skims throughout it expecting you to understand.
Great prof interesting course... for those that had trouble in his class.... ahhh... what to do...
Had him for FIN601 and FIN521. Interesting class, challenging prof. Tests are tough but fair. A lot of ppl failed the course because they did not understand his materials thoroughly. If you love challenge and are willing to put your time and effort, he is the best choice! I got an overall A- after my C- first midterm.
Awful, never explains anything. Openly laughs at students when they ask a question that he expects them to know the answer to. If he spent less time thinking up terrible jokes and more time explaining and working through some of the formulas, I would consider recommending him, as he does seem to know the material, he just can't teach.
He explains things through his slides and he is very precise about his slides, wants everything to be perfect, so he'll edit all he wants even during lectures. Clearly, he knows his stuff and he helps only if you have a good question. Had fun in his class and the content was far better than other Finance courses in my view.
great prof, knows what he talking about. midterms are challenging as hell, wish there was more time than the 1hour. keep open view on the practice questions exam and midterms are hard. aaah what to do ? drop or not drop ahahahahahahha
This course is VERY difficult. If you need to take it, then this is the professor to go to. If this professor wrote the whole exam you would be perfect, but the exam is made up of all FIN professors. This prof teaches all calculator functions and is hilarious. Overall, great guy.
Eric Terry is the best professor for FIN 300! He makes the lectures fun and the boring material somewhat interesting! He is really helpful and wants his students to do their best. You must attend the lectures if you're not a finance guru but at least this prof makes the 3 hours fly by. Overall, Terry is an awesome professor!
The professor was fantastic, he actually cared about his students. This course is difficult, but the instructor makes it bearable and is open to conversation. However, do not expect to pick it up easily. As well, sit in the front of the class and actively participate. Would highly recommend the prof! Thanks Prof Terry!
The course is tough. Terry does a great job teaching it though nonetheless. Even gives his own practice Qs and whatnot which very adequately prepare for the tests. Only take if you are serious about working hard.
This prof teaches only from his lectures therefore attendance is mandatory. He gives examples in his lectures. The short time he gives for the midterms and the final make it difficult to complete it to your best ability. The tests are fair because it is based off of his lectures. Ended up with an okay mark but probably won't take a class with him.
This professor tries too hard to be funny. He overuses the phrase "Ah what to do!". The midterm was hard and he realized he did not prepare us properly for it afterwards as he decided to give us harder final exam preparation questions. He is not very helpful either, brushes off questions and assumes students know everything.
Going to class is a must! dont miss any class. The prof is very organized with his notes. No need to buy the text book, just follow the slides and do the practice exercises and you do well. The material is hard so if you are looking for an easy A dont take this course. midterms are fair but you have to be fast cause they are only 1 hour long.
good prof. genius and master of the masters.
Harder than it has to be. He will try to "trick" students in many ways. Found him confusing even after learning from text book and online sources.
Provides great practice worksheets, Slides of his own that are very useful if you attend class. Intelligent prof, enthusiastic, he will make you enjoy derivatives. His midterms have no tricks, all is covered in class. They are hard though, time constrained. His final was not fair, 2hours , to long, very unorganized. Overall, hes better than most.
VERY unorganized, theres so many errors in his slides that you can't imagine! He re-uploads multiple versions every week without telling you, so get ready printing multiple copies of the same slides every week! Attendance are NOT necessary since he reads off them only during class!
Hated this class with passion. the prof is very boring and monotone. textbook was a waste of money. do not recommend!
I learned more from youtube videos than from attending this class. Don't bother buying the book, it isn't used.
This class isn't meant to be hard if you work for it, BUT he made it more confusing than it needed to be. Lecture slides are not detailed enough - 3 hour lectures should not have only 25 slides? Slides did not help with online homeworkINFO WAS MISSING. Reads slides in class. Learned more from friends and textbook. USE YOUR RESOURCES TO PASS.
He doesn't care about the students, like hes there but could be somewhere better. He makes the content hard and tells you straight up too bad nothing I can do. Pretty evil guy. But his lectures are pretty helpful.
Such a nice prof, and not boring at all considering what he is teaching. However, there was a huge difference between the textbook material, the lecture material, and the online homework material that made this class harder than it had to be. The exams were super difficult. My best advice is to ace the online homework since its worth 20%.
If you are looking for a professor that will explain in concepts in details, Eric is NOT for you. He only went over the powerpoint in class, explained them like everyone knew what the meant, and only did very basic examples from the powerpoint. He does use A LOT of puns which is funny at first but can get annoying. GET TUTORING IF YOU WANT TO PASS
I love him.
His notes and slides will help you fully prepare for the exams, you don't really need the textbook. The Midterm and Final weren't bad if you know the theory, and practice the math from his notes. If you practice a lot with his notes and his quizzes you can do really well in his class. He's really funny too and uses a lot of puns with his questions.
Very fair class. A few people I know failed the midterm which wasnt hard at all and he bell curved. If you study well, understand the material you can get an A. Midterm and final are not difficult. Even though it is open book, you must study well beforehand.
Eric Terry is a really smart guy, teaches well and if you like ridiculously bad puns, he's definitely your guy. Don't bother with the textbook. You won't use it even once for class. His slides and in class questions are more than enough to get an A. His lessons are taught like he wants you to get an A. Read his slides a few times and get that A.
Eric was an alright professor. When he taught, he made it seem so easy but it really isn't. He doesn't really explain anything, just reads the powerpoints and expects you to know it. The only good thing was his puns. They're funny but get old very quickly. If you want to pass with him, do all of the handouts, go to class and get tutoring
teaches most things by calculator, which is a lifesaver.. but he over-simplifies his lectures. goes through minimalistic details. If you don't know the calculator, then its hard to follow lectures. This course is extremely difficult in general. Definitely get tutoring & use resources to pass. get 90+ in lyryx important to pass.
terry is the finance g0d. teaches calculator functions and thats why i passed. the formulas in the course are brutal. i needed tutoring but im glad i attended his classes
Bad prof. Very annoying and awkward. He claims people are violating policies in the school when we ask for feedback. HARD exams, struggle to pass.
Terry is a hilarious prof, and his puns are priceless. Very knowledgeable and passionate about his job. His slides are enough for a good mark as well as the calculator. His practice questions at the end of lectures are almost identical to midterm and final exam questions. Would highly recommend his class!
Honestly he's a good prof but like you see here he really does over simplify, just wrote the exam last week and kids from other classes were saying the exam wasn't so bad while kids from my class were talking about it being pretty tough. Teaches the calculator though which helps a lot. If you happen to get him I recommend doing textbook questions.
This course is straight to the point. Eric Terry really knows his material. Go to lectures and pay attention and make notes. I got an easy A studying off the slides and lectures. Did not need to use textbook. Do not get left behind and do the practice!
He teaches you how to use the calculator which helps you ALOT. Pay attention in class, follow his slides, and do good on the midterm and labs and you will get an A. His midterms are straight forwards and not surprising as long as you went to class and did his practice questions from each lecture. Final is a bit hard, but practice and you're set.
To start, this course requires you to take the time to understand the concepts. Eric Terry's lectures are very straightforward but may get confusing due to the nature of the material. Just review and do the textbook questions (not a lot) and you'll be able to understand the course. He will teach you how to use the financial calculator which is good
Solid professor and would highly recommend, teaches you ALL the calculator functions and tries his best to engage the class with his puns which can be annoying to some but he puts in the extra effort. He does many examples in class which helps clarify the concepts with the use of the calc functions but he doesn't post some of them so go to class
This guy is extremely annoying and loves to show students how much power he has as a prof. His lectures are way to easy compared to the final. If your in his class, good luck trying to pass the final. (uses way to many puns)
His slides oversimplify what he tests you on so textbook reading is a must. Slides are also left uncompleted so class attendance is pretty much necessary. Grading for the group project was tough. Midterm was very lengthy and only 2 hours in length.
He's an excellent prof and has expectations set for the students. As long as you attend his lectures and do the practice he gives you, you will be able to understand the course very well. I learnt the hard way after not doing so good initially but in the end, I was fortunate enough to receive a decent mark doing what I mentioned earlier.
Absolutely horrible. So boring. He READS OFF OF ALL SLIDES. literally no point in coming to class. You will not learn ANYTHING from him. Youll just teach yourself
I hate math I still did pretty good in this class. Anyone who says prof Terry is horrible is 100000% wrong. He is a bit cringe sometimes with his puns but he's chill. He's a great prof, will explain everything if you just ask. Make sure you go to class because he doesn't post the answers to his in-class examples which are really helpful.
Professor Terry's teaching methods and slides are excellent. The content itself is difficult, but his explanation makes it easier to understand. However, one day, I asked him a question, he misunderstood it, got upset, and went out of his way to embarrass me in front of the whole class. After that incident, I would try my best to avoid him.
Midterm, 1 group assignment, online quizzes, and final exam. Prepares you well for the test questions as they are mostly right from the slides. Qualitative questions are a bit difficult tho. Online quizzes help boost your mark. Group assignment is also easy, just follow his instructions. Overall, nice guy and wants you to do well.
Always there for students and ready to help. Very polite and friendly. FIN300 is a tough course so be prepared.
Taking FIN300 online with Prof. Terry, I have to say that it has been a great experience. Hes a good lecturer that throughly explains how to do calculations, and for a minute or so he might go off topic which is refreshing during a 2-2.5 hr lecture. Hes also funny (sometimes unintentionally) and to summarize hes a solid finance prof. Thanks prof
This course can be pretty difficult and having this prof didn't help nor worsen my experience. I did well because of the mylabs and because I studied a lot for the midterm and final. His lectures are fairly boring but he does make jokes and a lot of puns. He is a nice guy, just make sure not to have your mic or camera on!
Good professor, nice guy. Has possibility for bonus marks on every quiz and wants his students to do well. Course is made up of weekly quizzes plus midterm and final, no papers or group projects. Questions are straight from what he gives as practice or during class so attendance is useful.
This is NOT an easy class. Lots of formulas and heavy concepts. HOWEVER, Eric is an amazing professor that wants his students to do well. Online, weekly quizzes with a midterm and final exam. Many opportunities to get bonus marks (on all assessments). Attendance and practice is key to achieve a good mark. Powerpoints and that's it!
First of all his lectures are boring and useless and you get much harder stuff on test compare to what he actually teaches during the class. His midterm was extremely difficult that may people dropped the course once they got their grades back.
Jokes around in class, and doesn't prepare us for the midterm. He reads the slides word for word. He is funny at times but other times seems like he tries too hard to make jokes
I like his lectures. He is very patient with those who put in the effort. Don't keep the questions to yourself. If you don't understand the materials, ask, email, or visit him during office hours with your questions. The class itself was interesting. I didn't even read the book; his slides and mylab were enough for the exams.
The professor overall is better then the other FIN300 Professors. He is great, he lets you know what to exactly expect for the exam. The midterm he decides on the questions so its free marks if you spend a little bit studying for it with his lectures and creating a cheat sheet for it. The final exam is hard though as it is not made by him. So study
Eric Terry is a pretty solid professor and is considered one of the better FIN300 professors. He actually teaches students how to answer questions on the financial calculator unlike some other professors. He also makes many puns and jokes during his lectures. The course itself is not the easiest and he tries to prepare students for tests properly.
Honestly, professor terry was an overall amazing prof. He was super nice when you asked for extra help, his lectures were straightforward, and the course wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The midterm was through the profs individually so his was pretty easy. The fin department made the exam, which is why it was harder, but overall he's great!
the course requires a lot of practice and extra effort to get familiar with solving the exercises. Not an easy class and attendance is important. the professor explains the concepts very well and allows you to practice. final is a tough one since it is prepared by multiple profs. In-class exercises are helpful to answer some exam questions.
I feel very well prepared for my finance course right now thanks to Dr. Terry. Hard course but his slides are very good. I really like how he actually teaches you how to do everything instead of just going over endless exercises. I remember he talks a lot about noble prize winners, history, and finance and economics findings that apply to class.
Eric Terry is one of the best FIN300 professors compared to the others, He is probably the only professor who teaches how to use the calculator. His slides are helpful and engaging. He takes examples from previous midterm or final questions. I do recommend taking him as a professor and showing up to class he takes up example answers.
Good prof that is very responsive to emails and in-class questions. All lectures are condensed into 30 slides which are gone over in detail. Has the tendency to tell off students sometimes, but that's the only negative. Overall 8/10, pretty good.
The class is very intensive and hard, but Professor Terry did a great job with his good lectures. His slides are condensed well and explain everything you need for the midterm and final. Attending his classes is important as he goes over in-class questions that will help him study for the midterm and the final. Best FIN300 prof to take.
His lectures are engaging! He tells you which questions were on the midterm/final. You don't need to read the textbook, just his slides. The final was a little hard because other profs helped make it so be prepared! The MyLabs don't have many questions. If you wanted more practice, there is a section in MyLabs that has sample tests and quizzes.
His slides were condensed with all the important information with practice examples that were done in class. He was engaging and super energetic during every lecture, which shows his passion for this subject. The midterm and final sample practice sheets provided are pretty similar to what you can expect on the actual midterm and final.
The professor gave concise slideshows and provided lots of examples throughout his lessons. He even gave sample midterm/exam questions which were very helpful, and showed how to use the calculator which is the most important concept to learn. He does talk a lot, but overall cares about his students. One of the better Finance professors.
The textbook is so confusing but prof Terry makes it very understandable in his lectures. Its important to attend lectures if you want to succeed in the class. He teaches easier ways to solve problems than they show in textbooks which is very helpful. The course is difficult itself but prof Terry does his best to make it understandable and fun.
This was the best professor I have ever had. He is so sweet and caring about his classes. He is encouraging and engaging even though he knows most people there do not want to take finance. He makes atrocious puns but he knows they are bad but he makes himself laugh and so does the rest of the class. TAKE PROFESSOR TERRY!!
Incredible professor! FIN300 can be challenging, but his slides are incredibly good and he teaches you how to use the calculator. He also gives practice midterm and final tests which are extremely similar to the real exams. very helpful.
Do not go with this prof. He's rude. Slides are good but his teaching can be confusing and easily goes off topic. Stay on top of the mylabs cause it is a difficult course.
I think hes an awesome professor. His classes are fun, material and slides are straightforward. You wont get many surprises in midterms finals etc.
This prof explains everything really clearly. Show up for the classes, and you can do really well. His exam questions are super straightforward, exactly like the ones he does in class. KEY TIP - go to the exam review sessions before the exam and you should be fine~
Good professor, lectures were interesting but have to participate to learn more effectively. Midterm review is done thoroughly and solid prof.
Prof Terry is one of the best professors ever!! He explains the concepts so well, makes class entertaining, and genuinely cares about students doing well. Midterm and finals are a breeze if you do the MyLabs and listen in class. Taking FIN401 and I wish he taught it too :(
good prof, he makes it easy to learn but the fact that he spends half of his time complaining about "invisible students" who don't come to class and will fail is super annoying.. like please teach the content I came to learn. Hes constantly shaming people which is so weird to me. don't like how he takes long breaks instead of ending class early
Kind guy but he talks a LOT and often gets off topic during lectures and he runs 2 breaks throughout the full 3 hr lec. Don't bother going to office hours he mostly rants and starts yapping about some next thing. His examples in class were funny tho and helped me understand how to use the calculator better.
He is a great prof who cares about his students and uses many examples to help students understand and practice. He does go off track sometimes but he is funny and energetic. He makes finance so much easier even though it is a slightly above-average course in terms of difficulty. If you pay attention in class you will have no problems.
He's an alright professor but can get off track quite a bit. My main problems are with the course itself and not the prof.
Terry is a good prof all around, he explains concepts thoroughly, shows how to use the calculator, and his slides are more than enough to do extremely well. While he might get off topic slightly at times, he does so to keep lectures lighthearted, don't get mislead and interpret that as he doesn't cover all the topics, he does. Terry is a goat!
Great professor! Lectures are engaging and he makes complex finance concepts understandable. Definitely attend classes - the exam review sessions and using Unstuck study for study prep are super helpful.
He often went off-topic, was unaccommodating, and regularly shamed students or complained about them in class.
this man has very low testosterone but asides from that he is a good prof that goes over concepts well. when he is not crying about as he calls them "invisible students" and talking about dumbing the midterm and exam down so a special needs 4 year old can pass he stays relatively on topic and provides easy to digest material
fin 300 is hard if u don't go to class is what i would say. prof makes it easier when he explains everything and enlightens the atmosphere with his jokes. He is really nice even when u ask questions, he answers very respectfully. I am usually lost but even I felt smart when I went to his class. choose him even if its early timings, 100% worth it
Overall a decent professor but gets way too hung up on students not showing up to class. The constant complaining about "invisible students" takes away from the lecture when in reality, students not attending class isn't personal. Annotated slides are also not posted which can make studying harder even if you attend all classes.
He makes early morning classes less draining. He's funny and teaches in a way where you can actually understand. Doesn't read off of slides , the course material is just alot of practice but the ‘hardness' of the class is out of his control.
Spends half the class talking about people not coming to class and bragging about how many students fail every semester.
He's actually pretty funny and he makes difficult concepts understandable. You NEED to go to his class to do well though-his slides are basically useless. I also dont appreciate how he yaps about how many students fail every year, but other than that, prof.Terry is a good instructor and seems passionate/educated in his field.
An excellent professor whose passion for finance is clear in every lecture. He makes challenging concepts easy to understand and keeps lectures engaging. Classes can run a bit long, but it's never an issue. Attend regularly, take notes, review them, and you're guaranteed to do well.
