I think he might be one of the smartest teachers I have ever met, I adore this prof. If you are narrow minded don't take his class, but if you want to expand your views then he is just amazing

Great teacher, very intresting
I took history of God with this man and woooooo, I will never forget it. You jut sit back in his class and are so entertained by his enthusiasm and charisma and knowledge on the subject. Don't have to do any homework at all to get an A, but you learn.
Guy just looves to hear himself talk;if you're a mature, thinking individual don't take his class; hype about him unmerited;to him every student is an idiot, especially if he/she is a Christian. He claims to teach about religion in a balanced way, but like FOX news, this dude clearly has own agenda.
he is enthusiastic, but his tangents don't add to the class
Such an awesome teacher. Smart, funny, entertaining. His tests are EASY and he really knows what he's talking about. THE most enjoyable classes I've ever taken.
I love his God class. He's one of the most intelligent teachers I've had(speaks hebrew, greek, aramaic...)Don't get offended and it's an incredibly entertaining class. He really mixes it up.Most quizes are take home and there's hardly any assignments.I thought it was interesting but I'm not religious.
Most entertaining teachers I have ever had. Very openmined and explorative. Will do shakespear if you ask him. He is like an encyclopedia on god, myth, and worship. Amazing teacher that basically offends everyone at some point, comes from a very liberal perspective so don't bring your baggage.
Took Comp Myth and New Testament classes. In the top 5 of best teachers I've EVER had. Looking for someone to teach you from theological perspective, don't take, he teaches Bible as history, not faith. If you're conservative, be ready for liberal tangents. Do the reading & you will pass tests EASY.
By far the best teacher at the JC. This guy is a walking, talking encylopedia of knowledge. He's extremely well educated and intelligent, very interesting and humorous. He expects a lot, but you won't mind. His class is well worth the effort. I wish he taught everything!!
This guy was one of the worst teachers I've ever had at the JC, that is just my opinion. He rambles on and on about whatever he wants. I think he knows his stuff well, but he also criticizes you on everything you write in your papers. Bad teacher, period.
Great guy. Excellent river rafter. Entertaining class and very interesting. He shares a striking resemblance to "Booger" (Revenge of the NERDS). Go Tri Lams!
Smartest guy I have ever met. He knows his stuff and then some. If you get offened easily don't take this class. But you will learn things that you will never forget.
Very brilliant professor, his lectures are very very interesting. I recommend this to anyone who doesn't take things too seriously. If you are overly religious, avoid his class, it will frustrate/offend you. Hard to know what grade you're going to get, so if you're hung up on that might avoid.
Awesome! One of the best teachers I've ever had... his classes are not only interesting, but very entertaining. His boundless enthusiasum and knowlege about his subjects will get even the most jaded student out of their doldrums and involved in the lectures.

My favorite class this semester! I love how much energy he puts into teaching, it sucks you in. He will say any and everything, in assorted languages, it's so entertainig! Eric is one of the most approachable teachers I've ever had and is so much fun. If you have to take a Humanities class, take it with him!
Good teacher. Very enternaining, knows his stuff, not much homework, mostly short quizzes and one paper. The final is just all the quizzes over again so it's super easy. I certainly recommend him.
The class didn't seem very hard, but I ended up with a B when I expected an A. I only bombed 1 of the 5 quizes, and I got an A on the final, so I can only conclude that he is a tough grader. The difficulty of the quizes seemed to vary; some were too hard, some too easy. He is a fun teacher though, and I was interested most of the time.
ENTERTAINING, BRILLIANT, and WISE! Eric is an amazing guy. He's a bit short, but great-looking! I was amazed by his knowledge of language and religion. He tells history like it is. If you're hung up on your beliefs - you may be offended. Don't be. His class is easy but you learn SO MUCH! Wonderful teacher - best at the JC.
A freakin' genius and entertaining to boot! Be prepared to question everything and to laugh while doing it. Eric ROCKS!
Weirdo! I was definitly NOT impressed by his crazy antics in class. You could never understand where he was going and all he would do was bash on Christianity. I am not religous at all, but he offended me emmensly. After working hard in the class I only recieved a C, I was extremely disapointed...I dont recommend!
brilliant, and so cool that words cant discribe. by far the best instructer that i have ever had..
I love this teacher!!! Awesome class, very interesting, REALLY fun projects..and his tests aren't bad either. Everyone--go take his classes now!
Great class, by far my favorite teacher in the last couple years. If you have the chance take him!!
He is a horrible teacher- caution! He screams at the students and verbly abuses christianity. He is confusing and crazy.
Great Class! and the teacher is hot!
Best professor I have ever had. As for the negative ratings, do not take his class if you are a religious person, especially if you are easily offended and not open minded. Other than that he encourages debate and is very enthusiastic,A+
Let me repeat what others have said: if you are a religious person with strong beliefs, who is not open to other viewpoints, don't take Eric. But if you are willing to listen to the evidence and decide for yourself--not what others tell you--and if you are interested in the TRUTH and not in blind belief then you will enjoy Eric's classes to no end.
Eric is brilliant and entertaining! He's an accomplished actor and made the class fun. He's also a scholar of ancient languages and civilizations of the Middle East. I learned much more than I had anticipated.
GReat teacher!
Highly recommend! I have taken all his classes because he brings the subject to life. His expertise in this field is fascinating and he only makes you want to learn more. One of the best professors around! SRJC is very luck to have him!
A very intelligent professor. I went into his class with very little interest, but surprisingly, due to his teaching style, I found myself facinated. If you are closed minded and/or don't like hearing negative things about Christianity, avoid him.
A TOTALLY AWESOME TEACHER!!! He's the most fun you'll ever have in a class. He's an excellent teacher too; he really teaches very well.
Cool dude. Makes class very interesting. Very, and he is pretty easy.Hhe talks**** about all religions, especially Christianity, but only because it's the most prevalent. Everyone should take this class even you christians. Seriously.
By far one of the most interesting teachers......no people I have come across in my life. Incredibly passionate about his class, and one of the more intelligent theologists you could possible hope to find. Take him for fun, interests, or for laughs, either way you'll come out looking for another of his courses to take next semester!!!
Eric is an entertaining professor, you definitely won't fall asleep in his class 'cause he runs around and sometimes yells during his lecture; however, his quizzes are confusing- I pay attention, take notes, and attend every class and I still struggle with the quizzes. The material covered is interesting despite the tough professor and hard quizzes.
This teacher is not for those easily offended by frequent use of profanity. He has great energy and a love for his material. He does go off on tangents and quizzes are difficult. I do find the language offensive and unprofessional and would not take him again as a result of it.
Keeps you awake but in a way that gets annoying. He runs around the class, yells and uses profanity. This may work for you but it didn't for me. Tests were okay as most of the questions come from the reading and not the lectures. @ essays 3-4 pages long. Not my favorite teacher or class.
Thompson is an amazing teacher and his classes are among the very best. People who are offended by his language must understand that the freedom of speech means the freedom to offend people, especially regarding religion. He is probably thee best teacher around in his discipline-- I have met no one who even comes close to the level of understanding
Eric is awesome! Never a dull moment. He has more knowledge than anyone I know about mythology, languages, and religion. I would recommend taking him.
Eric is a great guy, but there were several problems with his Hebrew class. Positives, almost no homework, only one tests, and quizes are only vocab no lab time. Negatives went off on huge tangents that were fascinating but only vauguely related to subject matter, taking notes on his lectures will not get you much usefull information
He very dynamic, and his energy is outstanding. However, I found the class rather difficult to follow. A background in religion is extremely helpful. Honestly, all the studying in the world wont help you. Listen and take notes, because his specific OPINIONS are critical to remember.
I love this guy - he is the absolute best at what he does! Other reviewers are right - he does swear a lot, so if you want to keep your ears clean and your nose in a book, take another class. If you want to learn more about religion than you ever thought possible, sign up with Eric.
E.T. is an entertaining guy to say the least. He knows what he's talking about and probably one of the best Religious Studies professors out there. At times he can tend to be a bit scatter-brained, but for the most part he is organized. Expect tangents and a lot of discussion. Religion is not "taboo" with Eric teaching. Enjoy the music too!
I signed up for this class wanting to broaden my knowledge of different religions. He is very smart and inteligent, but is very scattered and seems to improvise through the class. He has some sort of agnst towards christianity that some seem to adore but hurts others and does not give the other side a chance to stand for what they believe.
This guy's hilarious. Very animated! I recommend taking his class with an open mind, he's very informative even if he does get lost in tangents occassionally. But he's funny and keeps the class's attention with his personality and good nature.
Thompson is amazing. He is one of the most intelligent people you will ever meet. When he teaches it is very clear he loves religion. Not for the faint of heart, as he is very loud and dramatic. If you are easily offended or closed minded about religion I would steer clear of Eric but he is great and you will learn a lot regardless of his tangents.
I took History of god with Eric - He is outstanding! Hands down one of the smartest people I have ever encountered. To be truthful, he only people who do not like Professor Thompson are overly religious zealots who feel threatened by his genius. You will learn alot, and if you show up regularly you will probably do well!
Dr. Thompson is very dramatic, and History of God is a lively class. Either people adore him or hate him, but I try to stay in the middle. He's intelligent, quick, fun, but arrogant, and if you disagree with something he says avoid speaking up in class (go to office hours) unless you want to be humiliated: he has that effect. Expect a lot of tireso
Eric is very intellegent, interesting, and funny. I found him to be very encouraging and patient. He really wants the students to learn. Can be opinionated about others religions at times, but is still respectful of others views. He's very dramatic in a positive way. Makes the class a lot of fun. I highly recommend his course.
My favorite teacher!!! Eric changed my life and I will always be grateful to him. The man is a genius and very charasmatic. He is fair and always there for the students. If you actually want to learn something then take his class, you wont do well if you're a slacker. If you do the homework and actually attend class it's super easy to get an A
He is the coolest teacher EVER. He really, really knows his stuff, and lays the information out in a way that's easy to understand, and interesting. very animated (he's an actor) & engaging - and though he will disagree with you, he never puts you down. comparitive mythology & thompson blow my mind!!!
Teacher has LOTS of energy! He moves constantly, makes certain subjects interesting by acting it out. Lots of reading, but hardly any homework, but one big project. Class covers most anything you'd want to know about mythology.
I've spent 3 years at SRJC, and he is probably the best professor I've had. Very intelligent, and very knowledgeable. If you try to argue with him and don't have any actual evidence or rationale behind what you're saying, you WILL be humiliated, but that's your own fault. He doesn't cater to beliefs or coddle students, but you'll learn a lot.
Interesting, animated during lectures. However he would get off topic and rant which was boring and redundant. Don't take if you are offended by anti-Christian remarks. Lots of reading required. Overall, if you read and do the work, you will get at least a B. I got a B but felt like I did enough work for an A. Don't know that I'd take him again.
He knows a lot and is very entertaining, but sometimes I had no idea what he was trying to get across to the us. He does get off subject A LOT which was really annoying, he also has a following of students who ALWAYS take his class, and they can be annoying. But he knows a lot, take his class but be warned
Eric is fantastic. A super smart, funny and an enthusiastic lecturer. This is college, do your work- read, study, attend and you'll get a good grade. Quizzes on every section, a few homework assignments, weekly readings, 1 essay and a final. The final was taken directly from the quizzes so don't stress too much. Just a great class!
Eric Thompson is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's intelligent and funny and seems to love what he does, which makes you want to listen to him more. DO NOT take this class if you are offended easily. He is definitely controversial in his speech, but brilliant.
Well he certainly did not live up to all the hype.I liked the guy but he can be very abravise during lecture and condescend people for asking questions. His yelling was annoying, as was his arrogance and ego even though I share his same views. He was funny however, and didn't assign a lot of work.He could be better if he checked his anger now & then
If your young and want to be sexually titalated, have someone make faces, and spray you with spittle while teaching, then he's the one for you. He is confusing and you never know what he wants or where he's going. I would rather have a tooth pulled than ever take his class again. He's as knowledgable as he is full of himself.
took his class for history is satan. class is very interesting. but he is extremely arrogant!! he thinks he's the best. you never know what he's talking about. he jumps from topic to topic. doesn't clearly state what he wants. would not recommend if u want an easy class or if arrogant people annoy you.
Eric talks about what is literally written in the said any priest or minister. If you can't handle that, don't take his class. Doesn't use profanity; work is minimal but quizzes hard. Attendance not mandatory but he will get you in the end if you don't attend. Lectures are scattered but the information is there. His classes are greatand dynamic.
This is a great professor, if you enjoy hearing about how poor his students are performing in the class. He spends 1/3 of time, complaining or trying to figure out how to use the projector. He is incredibly knowledgeable on mythology, but he seems determined to keep it a secret. I did sense emotional baggage and a pile of leftover teenage angst, a
Thompson is a bible scholar, in every aspect. He is knowledgeable and a great source of information, and he knows it. Even while planning a minor degree in religious studies, I did not expect this much work from a history of Satan class. Spent much time the other day chastising students who miss class, only to spend it watching Buffy. Learned a lot
Eric Thompson Is very well versed in a verity of religious texts. Tests and quizzes are heavily based on the lecture, so attendance is a must. The required reading for his classes is mild to moderate.
If you want to feel horrible about yourself, take this class. His teaching is so scattered, he is incredibly arrogant and he makes you feel worse in his office hours (he doesn't even help). I have never felt so discouraged like I have with him. I am anxiously awaiting for this semester to be over so I never have to see him again.
This teacher sucks. He's not helpful, he'll tell you to look on the syllbus, and he test you on books we don't even read in class. So better go...every day...and his followers, who just cant get enough of him, will be there too....but as long as you pay attention and take good notes, its easy
Hes a very interesting and intellegent person but will makes everyone else feel like an idot. i hate asking him questions because he expects everyone to be genius's on the information hes been studing for years and made a career out of and makes you feel stupid for not knowing. He also believes hes teaching methods are as refind as possable
This guy was absolutely great. He just kept talking and we all kept writing down all the fascinating things he was saying. He didn't seem too arrogant to me, but he did get a little ticked at people who kept not showing up. You may have to do some actual work in this class, but he will give you fair grades especially if you show the effort you made
I'm really trying to get him so I could get this course, but it is NOT happening. His method of teaching is so scattered, I'm still trying to figure out if I'm taking a course on Islam or Christianity. I look around the room and know I'm not alone in my constant confusion! I had to buy 5 books for this course!Ouch! Two of which we have NOT touched!
He clearly knows his stuff, because what he likes to teach the most is how much he knows his stuff. Eric is condescending and arrogant, and prefers making sure you know he's better than you than making sure you learn the material. Lectures are often unclear and meeting him during office hours only invites derision.
He is very knowledgeable, and very intelligent, but yes, he can be condescending during his lectures. Several times he would go off topic while attempting to make a point, and this unmade point would then appear on tests. If you make an effort to read the material, and follow his lectures you should do fine, especially if you are into the subjects.
This was the worst teacher I have ever had! He is so rude to students and expects you to already know what he's teaching before you learn anything. His office hours are useless, he will make you feel like an idiot if you don't know something instead of helping you understand it. I would never take another class with him again!
Best college teacher I've ever had! I'm getting a degree in Humanities thanks to him. He knows his stuff and is down to earth, just really busy all the time. If you want to take a class that will change your perspective on the world, take any of his classes.
BEST teacher I've ever had the privilege of being taught by. Exciting and brilliant points of view. I was eager to please him with my essays and wanted to go to class. He is arrogant and rightly so, anyone with a mind like that should be. He only gets frustrated at you if your stupidity and ignorance is particularly advanced. AMAZING TEACHER.
His History of God class was far from boring. Eric is a very in-your-face teacher, one of the most animated men I've ever met, but also quite abrasive. The key is to remember that he's teaching from a scholarly position, so religious toes will likely be stepped on. I'm enrolled in his History of Satan class, looking forward to him again.
This is an okay class, i never really fully understood him as a person, and as far as his teaching it is not very good, he is very scattered with his notes and expects his students to always know and understand what we are talking about before he even does the lecture. no hw/ quizzes take home and occasional essays are not bad not reccomended.
This is not an easy class! You have to do all the reading to keep from falling behind. This was one of the best classes I have taken at the JC. be prepared for the online quizzes, as they are timed and require preparation. Thompson is NOT BORING AT ALL! I loved this class..
This class was difficult and required a lot of work and preperation before and after class. BUT, go see him during office hour and he will explain anything or even debate an issue that's important or something. I recommend his class to those who are interested in comparative mythology. Be prepared for the online quizzes and participate in class.
Jumps around a lot and doesn't stay on topic. One of my favorite teachers but attendance is necessary for knowing what will be on the tests. Lots of quizzes and tests. Really mean if you don't pay attention and say something stupid. Keep an open mind and leave presumptions behind.
Thompson is the kind of professor that is so interesting you will end up slack-jaw staring as he discusses religion, trying to write down everything he says. He seamlessly moves from one topic to the next which can be disorienting, but you'll be so interested it's hard to forget what he's telling you. He doesn't like late and grades tough but fair.
Eric Thompson KNOWS the bible. Jesus. He's translated it all from every language and is logical. A real "SRJC experience" includes one of his classes.
Eric Thompson is by far my favorite teacher. He is a true scholar of religion and knows his stuff. The most well read and well spoken person i have met.Yes he is confident in what he knows and does demand work but it is a college level class that will change your life and your view on things if given the proper attention.hands down the best class
Eric Thompson is knowledgeable. He is not "nice." He is actually extremely arrogant. He makes his own analysis and then does not let one remotely defend oneself. He is also not sympathetic. DO NOT MISS CLASS EVER!!! Unless you are on your deathbed, he will not care. Instruction-wise: Decent.Knowledge: Yes. Kindness: ZERO.
I was excited to take his History of God class because I knew nothing about the bible. At first the class was interesting but soon I got lost. His lectures are very random and unclear. I never asked questions because he is quite arrogant when answering. Every assignment was unclear and his grading isn't helpful; rather it's belittling.
He is extremely unclear about what he expects.Very energetic, which fools you into thinking he will be a great teacher. Boy was I fooled. 2 weeks in the true teacher came out.Never answers your questions and acts annoyed/like you're an idiot when you do ask questions.I wish I could have dropped this awful class. Highly discourage taking this class.
at the first class he seems really energetic and i thought it would be a good class, but it just got horrible after that. e is really bad about giving information, and when you go to ask him questions he acts as if you are offending him personally. he knows wh he is talking about but is very confusing and hard to comprehend. avoid his classes
Avoid Thompson! Class was an easy grade. I was genuinely interested in the subject but he spent most of the semester preaching to us about how Christianity and the belief in god was ridiculous. I found him arrogant and self centered and very difficult to learn. He is clearly not for everyone, but i genuinely believe he is simply a bad teacher.
Interesting class. Dr. Thompson is exceptionally knowledgable. Arrogant and condescending as well. Expects you to understand stuff the first time around, period. I never ask questions because I'm not an idiot and don't enjoy being made to feel like one. That said, I do not regret taking this class.
Terrible experience with teacher. Pushes his ideologies onto you and make you work for your grade like no other. I’m not very religious or was ever exposed to it and he expects you to have a lot of the bible memorized. The subject I thought was interesting but then I was very disappointed. He’s very arrogant and rude if you ask him questions.
Challenging, information-dense, makes you thimk. Thompson's a pretty cool guy, doesn't afraid of anything. Wish I could take this class again.
Truly a religious scholar. His lectures are clear, and always captivating. If youre genuinely interested in religion, take this class. If not, it will likely be very difficult to get an A.
Received A. Do not need textbooks. Very good lectures; very animated. Holds you to 10 minute mark, instead of 15 minute like most professors. Requires effort on writing assignments. Must attend class. Teacher is somewhat intimadting, but oh well. Overall=good course, would take again.
This is my third class of his tha I have taken. Needless to say he is great, intelligent, and a true scholar. He inspires all who care to listen. A truly awe inspiring teacher. So much knowledge and his delivery is engaging, funny, and thoughful. Dont pay attention to the negative reviews, Eric is great. Just be there to listen!
This man is ridiculously smart, and he expects you to be ridiculously smart as well. He expects you to understand the material, or he WILL fail you, because that is his job. Some students may see that as 'a negative attribute' for a teacher. However, you're in college. Get used to people expecting you to complete homework and learn new concepts.
Super knowledgeable on sub matter, but pompous & rude! Rambling, unstructured confusing lectures.Fairly easy grader.May need prior relg studies knowledge 2 make class easier.Found ofc hr time completely useless-explained how I hadn't understood a bible passage & he just told me 2 reread it. So helpful. would never take a class by him again.
I had him last year and he was good, I really liked him! but spring semester he totally lost it. He expected perfect class behavior and had material in class that you weren't sure of the importance. Pointless lectures and just seemed to be mad at us for no reason. Obscene emails too. But it was his time to go on sabbatical so he may be better now.
Instructor Thompson is not a " true religious scholar," nor should he be addressed as "Dr." In his bio he writes that he "completed my PhD work (1994)," however, under education he wrote: "1994 PhD (A.B.D)." Do you know what A.B.D means? It stands for "All But Dissertation." Yeah, he never wrote that research paper.
Interesting lecture knowledge. I had no idea Catholics have murdered so many people! :-) Asks for a 4 page essay then tells the class you needed 8 pages for an A paper, super frustrating! :( Dumped a ton of work on us during the last month!:-( Co-exist bumper sticker:-)!!!
Eric is quite enthusiastic about the material, but his lectures can be a bit chaotic and hard to follow. I can tell he is quite knowledgeable, and the material was fascinating. I did learn a lot and would recommend this class, but he wasn't super organized, and his tests were a little hard. I thought the final project was great, though!
The History of Satan was one of the most fun, entertaining and enlightening courses I have ever taken (I have taken a lot). Take really good notes and pay especial attention to the biblical section in the beginning and you will do fine. He gives clues for the quizzes. The papers and short and you can do a presentation instead of a final paper.
He is... Extremely smart and educated; knows it. Funny, animated. Interesting. High, high expectations. Rude. Condescending! Regularly unclear about assignmentstests. DON'T skip class. Get all of the books. Read carefully. You'll learn something new.
I was interested in taking comparative mythology, and it although I learned a lot, the class was not very comparative. It is obvious Eric is very knowledgable about his subject but the lectures jumped around. Attendance is very important and he has VERY little patience but as long as you do extactly what is outlined in the syllabus you'll be fine
I was really interested in the class, but the professor great. He's knowledgeable of all the content, but will rarely clarify. He will literally only help you if you go to his office hours, so don't even bother contacting his email. Even when you ask for help, he'll provide you with the "I don't know how I can help you, you should know this"
Great teacher. You need to be ready for his class and be ready to read the books that he assigns to you and you must know the content before the lecture to participate in class lectures and discussions. Gives out 4 Homeworks in which pertain to books to read for class, and one test which is the final. If you show effort you get a good grade.
One of the best classes I've ever taken, with one of the best professors I've ever had. He is super funny, and he makes class interesting. The only thing is that he talks super fast, so pay attention!
The most rude and condescending teacher I've ever had. Made you feel stupid for asking questions. Very sarcastic. He was arrogant and pompous and I will never take a class from him again. Subject was interesting but not worth how bad he makes his students feel.
He really makes you feel bad about yourself when asking questions. Expects you to know things before he even teaches it and then gets mad when you do bad on a test or homework. Does not let you have an opinion. I would net recommend him as teacher and will not be taking another class from him.
Even though he seemed very prepared for lectures to give us insight on the various mythologies, he was very unforgiving when it came to asking questions for clarification, making the assumption for all that we did not get the material because we were not reading. Only recommended going into this class if you have a strong interest in Humanities.
He is passionate, talks fast, and shouts in class. CONSTANTLY. Not for the meek/ADHD types. You have to pay attention always, he teaches at 80mph. Exams are based on assigned readings & daily lectures, take note on everything on the board. I learned a lot, was great to have a class where I wasn't bored between topics, he will move on without you.
By far the most knowledgeable professor I have come across on campus. Really will push you to learn; be prepared for interactive lectures, usually packed with information. It's important not to miss class, as most information is given through lecture. The books are a must.
Mr. Thompson gets very excited while lecturing and he is constantly moving around the room. His excitement always made me excited to show up for class. He is down to earth, always in a great mood and will help you understand things you don't. I loved this class and want to take all of his courses!
Eric is my favorite professor. He's extremely knowledgeable and funny. He makes tough subjects seem interesting and worth-while. I appreciate his dedication to this school and to every class he teaches. If you're struggling, it's worth it to talk to him in OH where he'll clarify anything you need help on. Bottom line, take his classes. ALL OF THEM.
Eric is well versed in religion, this course is so intriguing. Definitely need to go into class with an open mind since he will challenge all societal norms about Satan/God. Everyday he jokes & makes comical expressions that keep you at the edge of your seat. Science major so the class was kinda hard, but totally worth taking! Final is Ace-able!
You won't regret taking his classes. Extremely interesting material, lecture based class (which are actually the best part, trust me). He is a master of his courses, and has a hilarious personality. Participate and attend daily, and you'll have a easy time with passing the class. There's definitely homework, but it rarely becomes daily.
By far the best class I've taken. Pay attention and take notes, and it will be a breeze. He is hilarious and intelligent, and willing to offer help. His lectures are funny and entertaining, but packed full of information you'll need to know, so I can't stress good note taking skills enough. I would take more classes from him in the future.
Amazing teacher! He has a lot of knowledge and wants to share it. Take A LOT of notes! A very fun class. It was my favorite class Ive taken in a long time. I kind of joy to look forward to during Covid. Im taking more classes with him in the future!
Professor Thompson was funny and made the lectures enjoyable. He was very knowledgable and helpful. The class was kind of disorganized but this may have been because of Covid and the fires. The class itself was great though. Interesting myths from all over the world.
Thompson's classes are extraordinarily fascinating! I took both History of Satan (RELS 6.66) and Comparative Mythology (HUMAN 8) with him. In both online classes, Thompson went out of his way to record detailed lectures to accompany readings. While the modules were a touch disorganized, there was a clear agenda set for each week. Would take again!!
Extremely knowledgeable and gives incredible lectures. Was very easy going with homework and the work itself was interesting. If you dont mind reading I highly recommend his comparative mythology class
He is very passionate about what he is teaching. Zoom meetings are optional as he records them and posts them on canvas. Other recorded lectures are a must see to help with homework. Allows you to turn assignments in late without penalty. Always answers his emails.
This professor really knew what he was talking about and he absolutely LOVED to make sure you knew you didn't know what you were talking about. If you challenged anything he would make you feel about 2 feet tall. While he was exceptionally intelligent and funny, he was incredibly arrogant in the delivery of any kind of correction.
This is a 3 unit class with the reading material of a 5 unit. I took this class because I thought it would be fun, but the 200 pages of assigned reading in the first week killed that notion. He was funny and outgoing via recorded lecture but my classes that are crucial come first. He also translates course material from original text which is cool.
Spring '22: fun class! I'd take all of his classes! Tons of in-depth material, lectures, and readings (almost 100% provided for free). He pours immense passion into everything he does & weaves lectures through a holistic lens that is non-linear but highly intentional. Encourages feedback, is responsive, fair & caring. Participate and ask questions!
would not recommend this professor, absolutely awful at actually being a teacher. Yes, he is passionate about what he teaches but the lectures are extremely confusing and leave you more confused than anything.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY! He gives out ridiculous amounts of reading that doesn't make any sense, they usually are broken up old English wordings that you have to connect together. On top of that when trying to watch the lectures there are so many and each is 1 to 2 hours long and he just rambles on about the same thing.
With the discussions they are each worth 40 points and don't make any sense. He has long reading and lectures that also don't make any sense. On top of that takes points off of opinionated questions and answers in your essays. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
This class was egregiously boring. The amount of work assigned was ridiculous and while he may be passionate about the subject, his teaching skills are lacking. Not at all engaging and was a huge time waster. I cannot stress this enough, do not take this class, his assignments were poorly weighted and overwhelming with tedious discussion boards.
