he is very clear. He really puts an effort in his teaching. Notes are given in very detail, and comprehensible. However, midterm and final are not really review. In all, I actually learned in this class, so he has my recommodation.
This teacher is great. Show up to class and take notes on everything he writes down and you will be okay. I studied my notes before every test and hardly openend the book I am probably going to get an A. Is tests are very basic and pretty much straight off the notes. Great teacher.
Take another professor this class was a waste of my time. Dr. Van Tassel does not show an ounce of interest while teaching. He is boring and has the same tone of voice the entire lecture. There is nothing exciting about this class. The exams where ok, but he did not go over them in class. Neither, did he go over the homework solutions in class
Easy...easy...easy! Go to class, take the notes,no book needed and you will get an A. I got a B+ but only because I slacked off a bit at the end of the semester. Great professor, I recommend him!
The online course he taught for ECO 4223 was extremely hard due to the fact that certain, well more than half of the formulas were solved by different means than what he teaches you. For example, if you are taught A+B=C, a test problem will be C-B=A, but much more complex than that. One great thing he did though is provide an extra credit option.
Prof. Van Tassel is a really nice guy, and very helpful. Any time you have questions, stop by his office. The class itself was fairly easy (although a little boring). Van Tassel makes a few jokes here and there, and overall the class was a good experience. The tests are very much like the homework, so study your HW! This was the summer session.
I took this as an on line class over the summer and had 10 homework assignments a mid term and a final. Dr. V. has excellent lecture notes and all homework an Tests are based on the notes. Test questions are mutiple choice and are similar to homework problems. No trick questions. Dr V is awesome! Highly recommend.
I honestly wouldn't recommend this guy though he is nice and has a sense of humor. The class gets quite complex after the first exam but he keeps his lectures TOO simple compared to the homeworks and tests. The assigned book is absolutely useless and he doesnt go by it
likes to have students think critically, never used the book. i highly suggest pair up with another student to do hw and study for exams. make sure you have all the answer for the hw and the solutions to study for exam. class is very hard if you don't have to take; take macro instead!
I took his online class. If you read his summaries, you do not need to read the book, that's how good his summaries are. The tests and quizzes come right out of his summary. Sounds like he's making it easy so you dont learn anything, but no, he has a very effective teaching method so you learn a lot without the over-complications. Recommended.
I wish every online class was like this. Professor has superior notes he gives you. If you study the notes do the practices questions you will ace this class. I never used the book his notes were that good. No tricky questions on his tests. Had homework every week (5 questions) that will take you 10 minutes after you read his notes. TAKE THIS CLASS
Very laid back and very awesome.
This class was OKAY. If you could take another teacher I would. Not as easy as I thought it would be. He gives hw every week and his tests are KIND OF based on the homework but he makes the tests harder. Towards the end of the semester the material got a lot harder. He isn't that great at explaining if you ask questions via email. Visit his office
If you want to pass this course with this guy, i suggest you don't skip class. everything on the homework is relatively easy if you went to class. the exams are identical to the HW assignments so if you understand those, you wont have any issues with the class.
Attendance is not mandatory; however, I strongly recommend going. If you do, you will pass! Do the homework and you will score well on exams
He likes the subject himself. If you ask questions and pay attention, you'll do fine. No book needed, which I LOVE. Gives out homework which is helpful for studying. Study, go to class, pay attention, take notes = A. Like 3 hours a week to be sure will pass you with high marks.
Best Econ professor at FAU! No textbook required, and his lectures teach you absolutely everything you need to know, very clearly and efficiently. He also gives weekly homework which really helps for learning the material and prepare for the tests. Tests are easy if you take good notes and do the homework!
This class was OK. Weekly HW and 3 exams. You must go to class because he teaches everything step by step. Don't buy the book! He teaches using examples and then explaining concepts through the examples. You must do the HW because the tests are just like it. A lot of steps to remember and cumulative info. Not recommended if you're weak in math.
The textbook isn't mandatory, I just used class notes but I got a B in the class so I would recommend reading the textbook. Still, dont skip class and take all the notes he writes down and pay attention.
Took this class online and I thought it was going to be easy as long as I did the hw and understood it. Hw was easy but there were only 2 tests for the semester and did poorly. I emailed him to ask how i should prepare and he didn't respond until the 3rd email. Got 3 A's in my other classes but failed this, even tried SI but he didnt help explain
This guy is very good at teaching you concepts and breaking down the material. Hw was based on lectures. Exams were straight forward and similar to the hw (just different numbers). All in all, a great professor.
This professor actually did his job, which is taking complicated concepts in the book and making them so much easier. He teaches the basics of money and banking. 3 test, and hw.
Econ is not my favorite but I actually liked how he presented the concepts. Practice homework questions and you should be fine for the exams.
BEST PROFESSOR! Okay, first off, he is real. He "recommends that you buy that book" but its not necessary AT ALL. He knows that all these books are a waste of money and teaches class based off the book and his personal notes. Only graded on 4 Tests & homework. I NEVER bought the book and got an A+ in this class. If you're not buying book go 2 class
Professor Eric has a great teaching style . He calmly and carefully explains materials and he is always on topic. Few easy quizzes if you take good notes in class. Text book is not necessary and always available after class to answer questions. I strongly recommend him.
First off, don't buy the book;don't need it. 1 (5-question) hw assignment each week (10total) + 2 exams (worth 100 points each). Exam/hw questions based on his lectures. Exam oneweeks 1-5, and exam2 weeks 6-10. The lecture info is presented as A+BC, but you are tested on CD+E. Very confusing. Take with another prof if you can. I barely got a B
Prof. Van Tassel isn't the most charismatic professor out there, but he really gets the job done. He explains the material very clearly and gives examples that make the course work easy to understand. Not much homework, only one quiz every week on the previous week's content, as well as three exams. 10/10 would recommend for any business major.
I would take him for every class if it were possible. You do not need the book because his summaries are so thorough. I took this online and received an A . He takes complicated material and explains it in a clear and simple way so that you actually learn the subject. Very responsive to emails and quick to address any issues. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
Van Tassel is hilarious (if you like that ironic / "bland humor"). His class isn't that hard but you will struggle if you skip lectures and don't study. 1 HW a week all based on lecture notes and 3 tests make up his grading. Exams are literally the hw just with new numbers. If you go to class and study the hw you should pass. No textbook needed.
Good professor. You do not need to buy the book but the lectures do tend to be heavy. What is on the exams is almost the same as what he gives out for homework. One thing is that his lessons are a bit disorganized and can be overwhelming. If you don't understand something he'll explain it to you. I'm taking him for money and banking too.
Attend class, you need the notes because he does not go by the textbook. You have a hw assignment each week with only 5 questions. Hw is weighed more than each exam by 10points. Understand the material, study, communicate with him and you will be fine. Make sure you get at least a 3/5 for each hw assignment.
Great professor! Doesn't require or use the book at all, but everything is explained in class so don't skip. He gives weekly homework and 3 non cumulative exams. Very clear and goes over each concept thoroughly. The homework is just like the test, so do those and you'll be fine. Also has a great sense of humor. Best professor for this class!
Must attend class and be in time! Wouldnt have passed this class without taking notes. Doesnt teach from the book, but uses his own notes. 12 hw assignments (one per week) and three tests. Each hw is based on the weeks material. Provides a study guide for each chapter. Tests are 25 questions each. Trust me take him best teacher for this course.
I took him in the fall. He's a very low energy professor but his lectures still piqued my interest. One assignment Weekly very easy. Have to go to class though to understand the homework. Exams are closed notes but once you go to class your guaranteed to understand the material to pass the exams.
Purchased the textbook but never used it. The professor gives a good lecture word doc for you to read and understand. The class is math heavy. Each week is a five question quiz and then 2 midterms and a final. The last two are proctored. Final was the hardest. He helped with questions when I asked.
Attend class and take very detailed noted. He knows what he's talking about, but you will need to put in the extra work to do well. Didn't do very well on the first exam, but was alright with the midterm and final. Very math heavy!
There is a weekly hw assignment that is 5 questions and worth 5 points. There is a midterm and and a final. Both are open notes and open book, but the tests are not easy. There is a lot of math and you have to understand the underlying concept to know how to solve the problem. His lecture notes are good, but you have to teach yourself from them.
Tough class. TAKE HIM OVER PROFESSOR RHODD. You don't need the textbook. He writes his own lectures in easy to read PDF files. Read and take notes from them. Use them on homework and tests. Final is tougher than the midterm. Print the lectures and your graded assignments to use on exams. Open book and notes. Passable compared to Prof Rhodd's class.
His lectures have an example, then a practice question to make sure you understand the concept. Really is not that hard, but it is a lot of information. I got an A by, reading the lecture.. going to sleep to let the information sink in, wake up and read the lecture again and try the homework. I suggest you make a group chat He gives a pract test to
I did the online class of ECO4223 because I live in Orlando. The three things that count towards your grade are the homework, midterm and final. The homework is where you want to get really good grades because when you take the tests, it balances out to a good grade. I got a C and that is because he did a curve(YAY). He is a good professor.
Take this class online! Way simpler than in person. He gives dumbed down lecture notes to learn from with practice questions. The hw is weekly and should be used to study from. Practice quiz is also helpful.
BEST PROFESSOR BY FAR THIS SEMSTER! He takes huge concerts and makes them really simple, like you should have been taught this stuff in kindergarten. Wish he taught all my classes. He is a bit monoton so you have to get used to his lectures but he has a really dry sens of humor and really uses real examples to understand all concepts. Show up tho
never took a senior level class before that has been so dumbed down. 1st exam was like finance. know how to use the financial calculator if you dont wanna do it his manual way.. that was about half the questions Easy A. just read the notes he gives and wake up the next day after you processed it and you'll be set.
I wish he taught every econ class, lectures are very clear and the homework is exactly what is taught in class and is also exactly what is on the exams. If you take notes in class you should get an A, it is a very straight forward class. 10 hw questions every week that are a perfect study guide for the exams. take this course! he makes econ easy.
very easy, very straightforward, provides written notes, study those and you will do good on the 5 hw questions per week and the exams. highly recommend this class and this professor for any class you can.
Awful. You are graded on 3 exams and a decent amount of HW each week. His lectures are so monotone and it takes so much effort to just tune in. Please do yourself the biggest favor and DO NOT TAKE HIM!! He does not explain concepts well and provides no extra credit or any supplemental work. HW is heavily weighted, tedious, AND OVERALL AWFUL!
I took him for intermedia micro. He try to made the class as easy as possible. Intermedia micro would be a math class. A lot of algebra and differential calculus (calc 1). However the derivatives that you would do in class and the test would be really simple like 2x^2+4 which is 4x (hopefully you know that specially if you are an Econ major)
Take online. He posts his own PDF notes and assigned 5 HW questions every week. One attempt and even missing one hurts (HW 60%). 3 openbook tests. ACE THE HOMEWORKS, have the HW and practice problems worked out for the test. He had 2 videos for the last 2 ch which helped a lot. His Test/HW problems are VERY loosely based on the notes.
Professor Van Tassel makes things easy to understand if you pay attention. During the pandemic, he was very accessible and had a heart, he rounded my grade more than I want to admit. He's a great professor just do your end and you'll learn and pass
Prof. Van Tassel is simply amazing, he is very passionate about the subject and comes up with the funniest scenarios for problems. Never used the book, but you should get it if you're not a good notetaker. He tends to make mistakes on hw or test questions so be aware of the typos. Always welcomes questions and comments, nicest guy ever.
I will recommend this professor to anybody any day. Lectures are super understandable and he makes it seem like it's cake. He posts the lecture, then after you have a very small amount of hw questions. The test is also super easy, it's just like the lecture and hw.
Took online due to rona but his material was only written notes. No supplemental videos or anything so Youtube is your best friend. The HW only has 5 questions so if you miss 1 you're toast. Do the HW because it helps your grade. Tests are open note but STUDY, they are hard and lengthy word/math questions. Not easy but he's nice. Didn't round.
Professor's literatures are not easily explainable. When it comes to exams, everything taught in the lectures are wordy unrelated. Exam questions/problems are twisted making it hard to pass the exams. The Professor does accompany how to videos with lectures, but his class can be very challenging if not paid attention to.
You need to pay attention & really learn the info. There's no book, just pdf's which are his lectures & there are practice problems in it. Try your best to get all the questions right on the hw. Only 5 questions. For the test he lets you use your notes. I printed out his lectures and used my notes but I recommend studying beforehand.
Professor Van Tassel gets straight to the point when it comes to lecturing and doesn't waste your time on things that won't be on the exam. As long as you take notes and do the homework, you'll be fine on the exams. On top of the lectures, he's really nice and accessible through email. Overall one of my favorite professors.
i LOVED this professor. he made teaching so simple and kinda dumbs down the material and makes it easy to comprehend, i would hands down take him again. there were two lectures posted every week and one 10-question quiz, thats all your homework was. 4 exams total, 25 or 35 questions.
This class was very math-based, not concept-based so I didnt use the textbook. There were two lecture videos every week, and 10 HW questions. The three exams were non-cumulative and very similar to the HW questions. He provided practice questions for the exam that was similar to test questions and gave great feedback on questions about the material
Prof. Van Tassel was great. I took ECO3101 as a summer course, so all of the material had to be taught within a smaller time frame than a normal semester. However, Prof. Van Tassel made everything very clear and simple to understand. He also responded quickly to emails. Highly recommend and would definitely take another class of his if I could.
Took in the Summer online. He provides weekly notes that explain the concepts, and there is one 5 question quiz each week. The quizzes and three tests are the only things you are graded on the material is pretty easy, but he does his best to make the test very confusing and tricky and they are proctored.
This class teaches nothing about Money and Banking. It's just another math class with difficult and lengthy word problems. A pointless class that didn't teach economics.
Terrible teacher and extremely boring. Take this class if you want to fall asleep all he does is talk in a monotones voice. If you need help with the class dont bother writing him an email as he doesnt respond to them.
Very good teacher who has extensive experience in economics. Lectures are directly from the teacher not PowerPoint slides. Have to pay attention closely and practice the work after each class. This is not a easy class but manageable by working hard. There is a lot of calculus which I never took prior.
Dont listen to these negative reviews from lazy students who dont try all semester until the last minute and then go blame the teacher for their grade. His lectures/homework cover everything you need to know for exams, he makes his own material so all the examples you go over match the exams, no surprises or tricks whatsoever super easy course.
2 Tests and 10 HW assignment that are 5 questions so try not to miss any. Professor doesnt answer emails and is useless when it comes to helping out students. Would not take him again
I learned more from this professor than from any other at FAU. The way he teaches present/future values for bonds and such helped me out so much in upper-division finance classes. GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES... and you will do well. He teaches like a pro and makes it easy to understand. The class was three exams, similar to homework, no curveballs.
This class is just lengthy math word problems. You will never need to use this information. His reviews are awful for the tests.
Super chill guy. Not an insanely difficult class, but not an easy grade either. Math-heavy so be careful of that. The homework is quick (5 question canvas quiz) but you only get one take, and it adds up to be a test grade. One pet-peeve is he handwrites the notes rather than using a powerpoint, but pay attention and you'll be fine
Class was not hard, he didn't use textbook so dont buy it (in beginning he also said textbook was not mandatory so i didnt buy mine and still got A+ in the class). HW is 5 Q's every week and you only get 1 take but no time limit. He handwrites notes, doesn't upload it tho so u should come to every class. Tests pretty much straight off the notes
Everything is taught in lecture he does talk and work a little slow but the class is an easy A as long as you go to most classes.
I will have to say Tassel is somehow boring but funny at the same time. Take the class he's an interesting fellow. Loves to talk about his Dog. Theres not a textbook but his notes are pretty good. Show up to all the classes bro. I would take him again.
He is such a good professor, definitely one of my favorites last semester. I took him for microeconomics and he made the class so easy to understand. He uses silly examples about cars and pb&j that help the information really stick in your mind. The class itself was easy and so were the tests. No textbook is required but DEF go to the lecture.
Professor was a bit "slow", but very good teacher! Doesn't take attendance but I recommend going to the lectures. No book, he does work/examples on paper & posts them to Canvas. Exams were pretty easy & similar to study guide & homework. HW is 5 questions each week, one try but no time limit. Def would take again, he clearly knows what he's doing!
He really takes the time to teach his students and genuinely wants his students to do well. His lectures make difficult concepts easy to comprehend using real life examples. Go to the lectures because you will understand everything when it comes time for the tests. Only 3 tests they are exactly like the homework; homework is easy if you go to class
Class is 3 Exams. 12 Homework's. That's the whole grade. Teacher is chill and doesn't take attendance. His lectures are sometimes confusing but overall do help you understand. The TA was super cool, helped me review before the final and it really helped me. Would recommend as he is better than the other teachers. Chat GPT sometimes doesn't work.
Lectures are very helpful, he does a great job explaining topics. Simple homework, 3 exams. Definitely would take him again
It's important to go to class because he lectures through hand-written notes and not a PowerPoint presentation, therefore, you need to be there to understand. Lectures are interesting, he teaches the concepts first and then the math behind it. It's a simple class and you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches.
hes so chill and nice. hes trying so hard to engage the class but it was so early that we were all dead. bless his heart :( no attendance, but his presentations are hand drawn. he posts them later, but it makes no sense unless you were in class when he explained it.
Such a great teacher he handwrites his notes and doesn't just read off a PowerPoint 1 assignment a week and 3 exams literally the best just go to class to understand the topics and do the practice questions he'll give before the test
I love this professor. He explains things so well and has limited homework. He offers study guides before each major exam and is really funny in class.
Boring classes
Boring but good professor. He hand writes all his notes during class and posts them later. Very little homework so the exams are most of your grade but overall not too bad. He's good at explaining the concepts and often finished early.
GOAT professor, lots of experience, very smart and educated, and a lot of funny stories with good anecdotes and real world examples, TAKE HIM HES AMAZING.
He has a unique humor, which is nice. He is always up for jokes and makes the class enjoyable. The material is essentially a more math-intensive version of what is covered in undergrad. He is a good professor. I just wish he would post his own study guides.
