Demands too much from essay exams! Know key events and concepts!
He's challenging and thourough. If you are having difficulty in his class, he's readily available for additional help.
Good teacher... not an easy class though
Wonderful lecturer and good looker and dresser. Brings everything to life. Wish I could take the second half of the course from him.

He does not curve and goes through a lot of material in one class meeting. I did learn a lot from his class, but you must memorize a lot of facts if you want to get a high grade.
hard as hell, to much information...but you can get an A if you go and visit the TA's, they will hint you to what essays will be on the test and they'll tell you verbatim what you need to write!
The man lives, sleeps, and eats history! He is a great teacher and makes it very, very interesting. I would recommend this class to everyone.

Prof Walther is great! He is supportive and very knowledgeable. He is demanding, but it is worth it.
Prof. Walther brings history to life, if you go to listen in class and do skim readings you can pass witha decent A- or B+. He gives great detail in lectures, perfect for passing tests if enough is included in short time.
Best lecturer I've had at UH. You need to go to his lectures and read if you want an A... but it's not difficult if you do both of those things. He creates interest in whatever he's talking about; I never thought I'd enjoy a core class as much as I did hi
Very organized teacher since he will outline his lecture before class. I didn't read much for his class and I have a B+. As long as you go to lecture you will pass.
great lecture style, funny, lively. You won't fall asleep
Great teacher. Pay attention. Turn off cellphone or die. He isnt hot but he is still really cooool and intresting. Mumbles at time but other than that you should take him.
He is by far one of the best teachers at UH. His lectures are a great help. He uses funny quips in his lectures to keep it interesting. Pay attention and I guarantee you'll not only enjoy this class but learn something too in the process!
Dr. Walther is the best teacher in history I've had in all my time in the field. He is clear, concise, and loves his subject passionately. He's been wonderful in helping with schedule conflicts since I was a distance student. He adds interesting sidelights on the history he teaches to make it better
Grade determined in 3 exams, all in the same format consisting of 1 major essay, 1 minor, and defining 3 key terms. Interesting, funny lectures. I didn't study lecture notes for tests. I studied from the main textbook with his outlines as a guidance. No need to purchase the other 2 books.
he's a really laid back guy. he loves teaching and has great enthusiasm for it. his tests are essays but not long essays. only 3 tests. he's very helpful and understanding. you won't get bored in his class cuz believe it or not he makes history interesting
I love Mr. Walther's class, he is very enthusiastic about teaching. He really gets into giving us information. He is a real smart guy and I enjoy his class alot. I am glads to have a teacher who is happy about teaching history.
Tests are somewhat diff. because they are all essays, however, he is a great teacher that is full of life in the classroom. He isn't cemented next to a podium so he walks up and down the isles captivating your attention. Clever, funny, and overall a good teacher.
good class and greg peek is great grader so if u can get him to grade ur paper. the lectures are good and his book doesn't put u riot to sleep concidering it's about a bunch of dead guys that don't really matter much to society riot now
Dr. Walther is the best teacher I've ever had. He is really hard, but u take more out of this class than u will from any other...Dr. Walther will give u a good grade if you improve. Very organized class.
good lecturer and very clear. either take good notes or just read the textbook and you be okay. use alot of political cartoon. grade depend on your TA grader. test is 1 long & 1 short essay, and 3 short answers. essay take up alot of time but exam 2 & 3 easier than exam 1.
Overall great teacher. Interesting lecture. He doesn't grade, his TA's does. If you get the old lady TA, talk to him if you can change. GO to the office and ask for the OLD TESTS, they're VERBATIM! Read over lecture notes and text, no need to buy novel bc you have many test Q's to choose. Be a fast writer bc you only get so much time for the tests
some ta were hard but mine wasn't and if you don't agree with your grade go to him and he'll see if it deserves a better grade and normally he'll give you at least a letter grade higher
This man makes me proud that I am a history major. He really believes in what he says, and it shows. He will always take questions. Almost everyone attended his class because he's that good. Take thorough notes and be thorough on the test and you'll do great.
a very agreeable professor; formidable lecturer, but he grades HARD!!! He challenges his students ideas, in a good way, but expects quite a lot from assignments and essay exams. It can be hard to stay awake sometimes...
Take good notes! They will help you on the exams since they are essays. Skim through the book, but it is not necessary to read everything. Though the reader will help

Totally Hot!! Check him from behind! Great teacher, too!
Talkto the TA's, they help and take good notes! They will help you on the exams since they are essays. Skim through the book, but it is not necessary to read everything. Though the reader will help!!
Very reading intensive, but if you do it the 3 essay tests are a breeze. His TA's do the grading, mine graded really fairly and easily. His lectures are always long and takes the whole time and you have to go to class b/c he gives away test questions and ideas during it. I am bad at essays and I have an A so it wasn't too hard.
Great class I would reccomend taking it. He outlines all his lectures so just show up, take notes and look over them a few days before the test. Tests arent as hard as they sound. He tries to make his class easy for the students. Just write what you know on the tests i got B's without puting any dates and only a few names. Just write the basic idea
his is a very good prof. i didnt even buy the book, none of the 3 required and i got a B- in the class, i skipped a few class but when i went i made sure to write down good notes....review a a week or so before the test and you are guaranteed to pass....TAKE THIS CLASS
Great professor. Makes History interesting. I never like history until I took his class and now I love it. It's kinda hard because your whole grade relies on 3 tests, so if you do bad its kinda hard to make up for it. All in all great class.
Excellent Professor. Actually makes history fun by slipping in these little fun facts. Read the books and take good notes, and you should be fine. Only thing I don't like is that he whines too much about late comers and cell phones ringing, but the class is great any way.
he is a kind of easy teacher the only problem is that he doesn't like people being late. in our class he only took the best out of the two tests and those determined your final.

He has a nice butt! Great teacher! I loved this class. I never read any of the books and passed with an A. Very Easy.. He is a must take!!
His class was a lecture, very interesting, doesn't make you go to sleep. Can tell its his passion and answers questions throughly. Just go to class take notes, read the book and the essay exams (there is 3 in total) will be easy! Great class!!
This professor's tests are essays, & VERY hard !!! His lectures are confusing because he rambles on & on & often goes off the topic by saying lame & unfunny jokes. Even though he definitely knows a lot about history, he is not a good teacher. He speaks really fast. If you take his class, unless you can listen & write really fast, then good luck.

This class is boring. Not that hard. Fair warning: he does not give out a review but does tell you random topics that might be on the exam. There is no web page, which I thought stunk. The TA's I had, DID grade really easy. Class wasnt a lot of work. Could tell that the professor is passionate about History.
Tests aren't easy but aren't hard either. Don't buy the textbook, useless. Just take notes in class and your good.
Class can be easy or hard depending on your ability to study. If you go to all his lectures and take notes, there is no need to buy books. If you don't attend lectures, buy the books--they're similar to his lectures. Talk to your TAs before the test, they are very helpful. Essay tests, but provides potential topics. Study at least 3.
dr. walther is a great lecturer and knows wut hes talkin about. hist is his life. his exams are simple- essays and short answers. i used to be scared of these, but after taking the 1st one, i was fine. i made an A on each one, and i just took notes in class n read his txtbook n "reader". u dun need shattering of union. wish he as teaching hist 1378
Though I've only been in his class for 1 month, like everyone has said so far, just read the textbook, go to lectures, and take notes! I mean, it's not a super easy class, you have to do some work, BUT he is a really good lecturer, very funny. I was super scared for the first test, but it wasn't that bad... Actually, it was pretty easy! Good luck! Okay, going back.. you don't really need to read the books... and you def. DON'T need to read Shattering of the Union! It was a complete waste of time.
this man is a history genius! dr.walther's lecture are very good and interesting and professional. very easy to take notes from his lectures. going to classes are very helpful cuz it's basically like you're listening to a story. no need to read anything but the main textbook to get an A. test are all essays but easy if you STUDY! take his class!
This guy knows his stufff however the essay tests were hard for me. I guess I didnt read enough but if you read and go to class you should be ok. I got a C in the class but probably deserved it.
Awesome teacher, interesting lectures, attendance is best but if you miss a lecture you can get the notes from a friend and supplement with reading. 3 tests, all essay, but relatively easy, just throw as many details and dates in as possible, and you'll do okay. TAs grade particularly hard, this was the only class in which I made a B.
Make SURE that you read every chapter assigned and take GOOD notes. Tests are essay formatted so you will actually have to KNOW the material that he has covered in class. Overall a good professor but I wouldn't reccommend to the first semester freshman
Great teacher, really loves what he is teaching. One of the few teachers who kept me awake during lecture. 2 test and a final, all essay based. 1 Long essay, 1 short answer, and 3 identifications. Final is not cumulative. If you study, you'll be fine. That's all it is. Take good notes and read them over and over.
Very good professor, I missed too many lectures and couldn't keep up with the strenuous reading. He knows his stuff and does make it interesting. My TA was a very tough grader and wouldn't help me. Walther was extremely helpful and understanding of my missed classes. 3 written exams, that's it. You will pass if you read and really know the material
He definitely knows what he's talking about, but sometimes he can go on tangents. The only thing I really had a problem with was his need to constantly trudge through dense material... he never gave a break. TAs are good help though and not so bad grading. Just make sure you go to every class, lectures are very important and readings VERY important
The professor wz is HARD! Be sure to go to class test s come straight from the lectures. jackson (the ta) was very helpful with study sessions
great teacher. his lectures are interesting, but long and tedious. class is easy to pass. i stopped going to lectures about halfway through, but read the chapter summaries and studied the key terms and got a B+ in the class. just be sure to know dates and names.
He is hard!!!I'm a pretty good student and I thought i was gonna fail... surprised i didn't!!lol...i would just say don't take him a a first semester freshmen.
Very hard. Doesn't like late comers and early leavers. You need to attend the classes. You need to read the texts. (textbook, 2 other books) The exams are very hard. The TAs are hard graders! On the essays you need to be very detailed!!
Intelligent and witty, expects high standards from non-Honors students, which is good for individual students as far as morale and self-esteem, assuming you're capable. Definitely recommend to the more intelligent students.
3 tests. 1 per 5 weeks. none are comprehensive. tests are 1 big essay, 1 short essay, 3 identifies. going to class really helps bc bullet points are topins on tests. buy just the main hist textbook and readin it will help. dont buy other two small books. tests are pretty hard. must be very detailed!
Great lectures, but will feel inundated with information. Don't hesitate to speak to him or the TAs to clarify anything. Despite his strict nature he is rather fair natured and pleasant. Immature and disruptive students need not apply, go get baby sat at HCC. I would take him again and highly recommend him.
Excellent teacher! You will learn so much with him...make sure you attend the lectures, and read from the book. The tests are easy if you listen, you don't even have to read much. I got a B just listening to all his lectures. AMAZING!
Professor Walther is an excellent insturctor. I would take another class from him.
Walther is a great teacher, but you must go to class to get all the notes.
Need to attend classes for lectures. I didn't do as good on the tests when I didn't go to class. tests are pretty hard all essays and you don't know the question beforehand at all.
"must be in the classroom on time and are expected to attend for the duration of the lecture. If you must leave early, do not even come to class. Turn off all cell phones, pagers, alarms and chimes on watches. Disruptive behavior will result in me assigning an F course at any time" (Syllabus). Assigned 100 pgs of reading the first day. Dropped.
Very good and clear teacher.. Must go to lectures because he gives out hints on exam essay questions.. He is very passionate about history and I would defintaley take a class from him again.. If you listen, take good notes, and skim the readings then you should ace the class.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER- MUST ATTEND CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES. TEST ARE BASED MOSTLY ON HIS NOTES AND READER- YOU DO NOT REALLY HAVE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK. EASAY A IF YOU ATTEND CLASS AND STUDY YOUR NOTES!!DEFINATELY RECOMMEND
Attendance is not mandatory. He just lectures on and on, exams are essay exams, but if you go to class and read the text u should be fine. I got a good grade in this class.
He's a great lecturer! It's just that he gives no review sheet for tests and there's no review sessions unless you go to your TA. If he would have given a review sheet or review session prior to tests, I would have probably done better. History is not my thing, but Walther made it more interesting. I would recommend him if you're willing to read.
Walther is a very good lecturer. You MUST attend class if you want an A. You MUST read the readings if you want an A. Pretty much, you have to put a decent amount of effort into this if you want a good grade.
I love him! Go to class, take lots of notes, and read the readings. I NEVER read the txtbk. I passed with an A. If u can write essays then u will pass this class. My TA was really nice always gave me couple of points when I went to ask how I can improve my essays. GO SEE UR TA they love students who care abt their grade n they will give u xtra pts!
Beware! This Professor does not curve. The good reviews are from students getting As.
took history of the old south with him. ALOT of reading and writing. midterm and final are take home written, some of the questions werent even questions they were more like statements. Not very clear on what he wants until you get your grade back and theres paragraphs of what was wrong with your paper.
How can you not do well in this class? This man is a history GOD. He's without a doubt the best teacher I've ever had. He effortlessly makes you interested in the material and keeps you entertained during the lectures. Sure, he has rules, but so what? The man seems to know everything about everything, and if you pay attention and read the books, A+
He is an awesome teacher! I hate history, but he explains the material really well, and he has his own sense of humor to keep his students entertained. Attendence is really important in his class, if will miss a lot if you skip his class.
On my first day of class i thought I was on my way to failing it. I hated the fact that our tests were ALL essays but after I took my first test, the class suddenly seemed a lot easier! Just listen and take really good notes. I NEVER read the textbook and i still managed to get an 85 on my first test. He makes corny jokes which keeps it interesting
It's all about the TA's. My TA was horrible at grading, made me fail my first test when in comparison to others was better. He uses TA's a lot so if you want to risk getting a bad one then take this class otherwise he's a great and fun teacher. Had to drop it though thanks to my wonderful grader.
Dr. Walther is an amazing professor. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable, and you will learn a lot from this course. However, if you want an A, you have to earn it. The TA's grade hard. Don't forget this is a college level course though, it's not meant to be easy. I respect him not dumbing the course down just because it's for core.Itookittobechallenged.
Amazing lecturer. He's the typical guy one might see on something like Boy Meet's World who's so enthusiastic about what he teaches. Definitely someone to learn from at least once in your life. I hate American History but his lectures are definitely uplifting. Also pretty funny.
This professor is great. His lectures are well structured, with outlines in his presentations, and they're very lively. Lots of info, though! TAs may seem mean but are really nice and helpful when you talk to them. Go to their office hours... They tell you what you're doing wrong and explain anything that wasn't clear from the lecture or book.
First and foremost you have to take history, TAKE ERIC WALTHER. This man is epic. His lectures are full of passion and is very interesting. 3 full essay tests. TA grades these tests. No curves. Attendance is not mandatory. This man is in love with civil war era and during end of the class you will love it. Reading books (3) are required.
Very passionate about his lectures but his TA's will make it difficult to pass.
Great class. Lectures are mandatory, people! They're entertaining and overwhelmingly educational. Walther delved into the differences between coastal cotton and inland cotton, which is surprisingly integral to our history. Curious? Take the class.
He is seriously a great teacher. Attendance isn't mandatory but he says stuff in class that isn't in the book. His tests are kinda hard, they are essay tests so it's a little hard to study for them. He is a great teacher though, very thorough and detailed and he TELLS you what is important to write down and what is just interesting facts.
3 essay tests is your grade. TA's grade as if you are a History major. I regret taking the class not because of the professor but because of the TA's. I'm failing and I attend all classes, take notes, and do the reading.
GREAT PROFESSOR!his lectures are actually very interesting and I couldn't STAND history before taking this class. Attendance not mandatory, 3 tests (essays) and yes it is quite a bit of reading.definitely do-able. TA's are not as bad as some say just know your stuff when it comes to writing your essays. (you get options to choose essay topic)
Awesome teacher! Lectures are super interesting, just make sure you take detailed notes. I received an A in this class. Helpful hint-take great notes, then compare notes to textbook. First history class that I did not fall asleep in. Beware- all tests are ESSAY based. If you arent a good writer, this might not be the teacher for you.
This guy is VERY passionate about his job. His lectures are always interesting, so you won't be bored. Every now and then he tells you what will be a question on your test. I always just studied that question and made sure i knew it well. strongly recommend seeing your ta before your first test!
I loved this class. Lectures were very helpful and interesting. I even didn't notice how time passed. Questions from reader and textbook are on test. My TA was very strict but still I studied hard and made an A. Interesting class.Take this professor!
Easy class. Very organized. Tests are easy, however essays must include lots of evidence from the readings. Bad personality. Loves the sound of his own voice. Very rude to his students, while he adores his TA's. Highly discourages ALL emails because "there's just too much of y'all." Arrogant and moody, but it's still not too hard to make an A or B.
Dr. Walther is a great proff. and knows his history but way too much information all at once. His T.A.'s grade pretty hard and seem to expect a perfect paper in order to get an A. There is no study guide or review, exams are straight out of lecture and book reading.
This class is crap! I looked at this teacher on this website before enrolling in class, it seemed easy, however it's not. Take my word. The Ta's grade hella hard, so read the textbook! The class is easy to pass don't get me wrong, but you probably are'nt going to get higher than a B. His lectures are like hopscotch... EVERYWHERE! Nice butt, btw.
While attendance is not mandatory it might as well be 'cause if you miss even a few classes you will NEVER make an A in the course. I only missed a few, and I mean a few, got A's on my first two tests and yet still ended up with a B due to his attendance policy. Only take him if you want to work yourself to death and never miss a day period.
Long Story Short: Lecture is engaging, does NOT encompass what you will be tested on, is basically mandatory with the attendance policy. Tests will be graded with the utmost scrutiny and demand for detail. The amount of effort put into making a C in this class could make an A in another professor's class. Do not take this guy if you value your GPA.
I loved his lectures but this class was next to impossible. I worked hard to make a good grades on his test, but I could never do better than a B. You can make an A, but you MUST add great details to his ESSAY only test, and you MUST show up for every class. He is super tough! If you don't work very hard you will not do well.
I would definitely recommend Walther to anybody. His lectures are interesting and it's not too hard to pass this class. To pass you need 315 points in total I think, and you'll earn 100 for daily attendance, another 100 for the (easy) daily clicker quizzes, and the rest comes from 3 tests. So to pass you need only 40's on all your tests. Easy.
I absolutely LOVED his lectures, they were engaging and informative. BUT, the tests are hard. I knew the questions to the answers and still made low grades and I NEVER make anything lower than a B in history. The TA's are hard graders. Take if you have a light course load and are throughly interested in History. Not for slackers.
Walther was a pretty cool prof. My advice is to keep up with the reading and if you have to miss class schedule a meeting with your TA and get anything you missed. Details are very important on the exams, which are all essay. I ended up with an A so it's not impossible to get a very high grade in this class.
Walther is an amazing prof - interesting and engaging. He loves what he does and will always help his students learn. Detailed responses are expected on exams so be aware of that. And readings from the book are necessary for your daily clicker questions (for a grade). But all in all a great learning experience.
TA's do all the grading. They are nice but tough graders. Professor Walther is interesting and really loves what he does. Make sure to read and do the reviews thoroughly!
His lectures are interesting and funny. We only had a midterm and final- Bluebook style. He gives you 10 questions beforehand, puts 3 on the test, and you have to answer 1. The TAs grade the tests, but he lets you appeal the grade to him. Definitely take him. His one pet peeve is arriving late to class- don't do it.
Professor Walther could be rude to my class but he was definitely knowledgeable about the subject. His books weren't that spectacular but were useful for the tests. Go to class and study everything as he doesn't have a review. The TA's grade hard, so be meticulous about your writing and style. He wasn't very nice, but overall ok.
Tough, but great professor; you will need to read the text books. If you are a history student they are excellent reads, if not they aren't boring. Tests are essay based.
This class is tough to pass. His lectures are all over the place and he is not really open to questions during his lecture. However, I suggest taking advantage of office hours. The TAs and Dr. Walther are extremely welcoming and are willing to help you do well on your outlines (which are questions from the exam). Take this class if you will work!
Walther has an extreme ego and will you to buy and read his book, which actually isn't that bad of a read. Attendance is mandatory, lots of reading. The TAs as well as himself are open to giving help when needed which is nice. Mid-term and Final are all essay.
Practice your essays and you are good to go for an A. He is a great teacher absolutely informative. ALWAYS show up to class on the dead days, he may reward you.
Amazing lectures and the TAs help a lot
If you know how to a write a good essay under 1 hour on your midterm or know how write an history essay your a set to go.
Good prof but TAs do most of the grading. His lectures are pretty interesting and stay along with the assignments most of the time. Depending on your TA, grading is pretty hard on the essays and require a decent amount of detail. Very flexible when it comes to problems outside your control such as textbook fiascos or technology messing up for all
Half of your grade comes from showing up to class and completing online assignments. The other half will come from the midterm and the final which are both essay-based. To get an A all you have to do is complete the assignments, show up to class, and get at least an 84 on both of your exams. To do well on exams have TAs read over your outlines.
The TAs do the grading so see them before midterm and final. Be as detailed as you can for the midterm and final essays. 50% of the grade comes from attendance and online assignments which require only completion. Don't be late for class. Professor Walther is amazing but he lectures rather fast, you can always ask the TA later for the information
He adds humor to the lectures to keep you engaged, and there's only a midterm and a final. So, with the exception of learnsmarts, it's not a crazy amount of work.
Do not talk while he's lecturing or he'll leave. Make sure you laugh at his jokes and he does push you to purchase his own book on top of the textbook.
Overall , professor Walther is a good lecturer. He includes lots of tiny fun facts throughout the lecture to keep you interested. But those details will help formulate analysis on your midterm and final. He gives you essay questions ahead of time. Learnsmarts are a breeze. You can borrow his book from the library .
History is not my subject. I managed to make a B+ with little to no effort. Great history lectures to listen to. Keeps things interesting and fun. Easy midterm and final essays with prompts given to before hand. Great way to knock out your history credit with this professor. Just be sure to read if you want an A or listen and take notes.
He makes attendance mandatory and has assigned seats. Lectures are very detailed and heavy, but he doesn't post them online! He goes through his lectures very quickly with very little info on the screen so listening is a big portion for notes. Essay only midterm and final which is discussed better in labs, where TAs discuss lecture slower.
Literally take the hybrid of this class. The lecture is him basically reading the textbook with random facts thrown in. The class is graded off of the midterm, final, and the online chapter reading quizzes. The quizzes are easy because you can read about the answer in the book before you submit the question. TAKE THE HYBRID!!
Dr. Walther's lectures consist of him mainly reciting the textbook verbatim. There are assigned seats, and attendance is mandatory. There's 2 essays: midterm & final, list of possible essay prompts are given for both. LearnSmart assignments due weekly.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN! He is rude, sarcastic, and read his lectures that he expects for you to FULLY memorize for your writings. Unless you are a History major and out of options takes something else. This is an elective course and he treats it like is mandatory. He grades writing style and grammar, not content. Takes off point for writing min pages
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Both he and his assistants treat it like you're pursuing a history degree, and he talks way too fast in lecture for you to get all of your notes down properly. His slideshows are very vague, so you can't take notes off of them, and he doesn't share his powerpoints. He's also pretty rude.
Do NOT take this professor. You can barely understand his heavy voice, powerpoints are very vague so don't depend on them and he doesn't post them. Grades are based off 400 pts (100 midterms, 100 final, 100 learn smart, 100 lab participation) They give you 10 prompts to study for the essays and they'll give you 3 of which you choose one from!!
I wasn't expecting much from a mandatory basic history lecture class but I was blown away after taking Walther's class. He has a way of making every lecture more engaging than the last! He really knows what he's talking about and is very passionate about history. The midterms are very easy (essay form). I would actually get excited to go to lecture
If you take him expect to teach yourself the material. Especially when it comes to the essay based exams. He's looking for very factual information, no opinions whatsoever. I found his lectures hard to follow.
Just don't take him. Please. I regret taking this class. You basically need to teach yourself the material. You have to really listen and be able to take good notes bc his powerpoints have no type of helpful info whatsoever. The midterm and final are essay based. I'd prefer multiple choice instead. It's horrible. Just don't, sis!
This class isnt as bad as a lot of people say it is. Students arent really expected to do much other than attend class and do online assignments. For the midterm and final essays he chooses from prompts which he gives us prior to taking the test making it pretty easy. I never really paid attention in class, but still managed to do fine.
25% of your grade is attendance, 25% is completing your learnsmarts, 25% is the midterm and 25% is the final. His lectures were interesting, but you don't really need to take many notes or anything because the midterm and final are both essays and he gives you the prompts well beforehand to allow you to prepare. If you are a bad writer do not take.
It took everything in me to show up to lectures. He basically read the text book and there was no need to show up and it was super boring but the midterms and finals were essays and pretty easy. There were also online assignments that were pretty easy as well. Also, lab was super useless as well.
I really enjoyed this class. Had him my fall semester, its not a blow off class so be ready to read, listen and actually come to lab and lecture. He really enjoys teaching and you can tell. Yeah, you gotta get his book and kinda read it but it, but really not all that much. Nice teacher, good TA's and midterm and final are just in class essays.
Lectures are extremely boring and he isn't engaged wit his class at all
Not a terrible professor, hut definitely not the best. I found it extremely hard to pay attention during his lectures most days and sometimes could not even hear or understand what he was saying, as he had a mic but rarely talked into it. I tend to find history boring, but I feel as though he made it far more boring.
Definitely an easy A if you research all the questions possible for the written exam. All the other points come from learnsmarts which are easy 100s. Lectures are hard to engage but to me not crucial.
This was his first time teaching a film class. It was very unorganized and lacked in a lot of areas. I never knew how he graded things (he forgot to grade my paper once, and put an 'A' on it when I pointed it out after class), and never knew when to turn in our writings. It was a mess, but the easiest A of my life. Turn in the notes and you'll pass
His slides didnt match his lectures for 3 months. he reads off of a paper or out of a book, then looses his place frequently, causing the class to progress very slowly. I honestly havent been paying that much attention at all during lectures this past semester. My only goal has been to sign the attendance sheet. Just my perspective though.
There was not syllabus posted for 3 weeks. The TA's and their labs are what I liked most about this course, but even those aren't guaranteed to be helpful. I honestly didn't get much more from the lecutre that I already got from reading the text book. Easy frequent book assignments, 2 Essay exams. It was very difficult to pay attention at lectures
The class was very easy, the professor was not great at teaching the TA's were really good at explaining. The only thing that was tiring was the labs but it is an easy participation grade. Their is 1 test and 1 final both are essays and the topics are given at least one week before the test.
UShistoryThruFilm. Watched a lot of movies, forced to read 4 books. Had to write about each movie and book. At first he was cool with taking handwritten movie notes then out of no where gave me a C- b/c they were HANDWRITTEN. It was a mess. Unorganized. but hes the kind of prof. the takes responsibility and is super nice.
Unorganized
Took his HIST 1376 class my first semester, he is very disorganized and a little aloof, which his lectures reflect. The lectures do provide good material but aren't linear. Tries to add personal stories and jokes to his lectures for fun, easy grader, nice TAs. Overall a kind professor that just wants to tell his tale and be told he's doing alright
