Okay, here's the thing. American Heritage with bro. Walz is THE MOST BORING THING ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. I couldn't keep my eyes open. He's better, though, with smaller class sizes. A lot more interesting too.
Can't say I ever had Walz for American Heritage but his Industrial Age class was good. Not real strong in the entertaning department but definately a helpful and knowledgeable teacher. I'd give him a B+
He is a good teacher but the class is VERY BORING. Make sure you take it when you are awake, maybe not early in the morning or as a night class. If you pay attention and take good notes you should do well on the tests.
Good teacher and he is very helpful, but there is a lot of homework in the class. More than there should be for a 3 credit class.
Great teacher very well prepared. Listen and learn!
Very boring teacher. I found my head nodding frequently. Class is pretty infomative but too much homework for the 3 credit class. lots and lots of reading. If you take this teacher don't take him at 8am.
He made history pretty boring. There are no class discussions and generally people do not comment on anything. Use the online study test to narrow down what you need to study (half of the questions that are on the test are on there). I didnt do any of the reading and i still got a B.
I really enjoyed this class. Yes there is alot of work involved, but it is all in preparation for writing your paper and using Chicago Style of writing. Plus if you just do the work and turn it in, you're most likely to get an A in the class, I did. I'd reccommend him for History 300 any day of the week.
Fell asleep everyday-and snored too. The huge class size didn't help. Never read and still did good on the tests. Use the study guides he gives online- SO HELPFUL. Know the study guide- a lot of the questions on the test are almost identical.
I rarely attended, didnt use my notebook after first day, hung out in lounge during class after signing the roll. Got a B+, Easy teacher, its all about the tests.

I loved his class.. I learned alot, even though I didn't get a very good grade :/
the class is alot of work but it isnt that hard if you do the reading and keep up with it. not the most interesting class though, don't take it 8 am FOR SURE.
Hated the class and he is so monotone!!! I fell asleep everytime I went to class, but it doesn't help when you take the class as a night class, so it was once a week from 7 until 9:40 pm
The class was very hard. Make sure that you read and that you know everything in the notebook. He was a very good teacher and he was helpful, but it was still ver difficult.
For the first half of the semester the class was the bane of my existence, but after I got used to the workload it became one of my favorite classes. Bro. Walz is and EXCELLENT teacher who genuinely cares about his students. I've never had a class that pushed me so much to do my very best before. Yes, it's hard, but it's very much worth it.
If you want to learn, you will do well; if you don't, then start memorizing. I learned amazing amounts in this class Quiet teaching style but EXCELLENT Engage, ask questions, be involved, you'll do fine DO THE ONLINE PRACTICE QUIZZES and you're sure to ace the tests If you find the subject interesting, consider taking his night class SIT UP FRONT
I liked the notebook that he used. All the answers were given in class and the tests were mostly out of the small notebook. The tests were pretty hard, but he uses alot of the questions from the practice quiz so do the practice quiz. He is very understanding if you have any problems. Talk to him if you do.
Good teacher, but you really have to focus and.....STUDY to pass! If you do not like studying, don't take this class! He is a good teacher! He loves to help students who want to be helped. You have to put your part into it. This is not an easy A class.
Bro Walz is a great guy, the class is huge so all he can really do is lecture. I loved the class for the mostpart. You will need to study for the tests but all the stuff you need to know is in the notebook. Make sure that you know concepts he teaches instead of just memorization.
I'm in his class right now, and I'm not doing well. He gives you a lot to read and his tests are really hard. I study a lot, and it doesn't seem to matter. I went to him personally to see what he suggested as far as studying went, and he just told me to remember what I read. I thought, "Wow, gee. That was my first instinct too genius." Don't take h
Great Class! A LOT OF NOTE TAKING! Easy teacher though!
Hated history before I took this class. Was really hesitant about taking a night class as well, but it was impossible to fall asleep because writing in the notebook is mandatory (and not that bad). The tests were easy and the notebook was really helpful. I didn't like the group discussions online, but other than that it was a great class.
Such an amazing history teacher. He knows how to keep students interested, even for his 3 hour night class. If you get a chance, get him for American Heritage
He is a good teacher. Just show up for class and take the practice tests online and you should do fine
He was a good teacher, and I enjoyed all he had us do. There was a lot to do in this class, but it really hit what he was trying to teach home.
DO NOT TAKE THE THUR NIGHT CLASS! Three hours is way to long to spend sitting listening to one guy. He had a lot to say but his tests were insainly hard and there is a mandatory only discussion group, which you need to get an A in his class. Make sure not to get sick the last two weeks of class!
I took him for American Heritage and Hist 300, and loved both classes. He makes you work, and you actually learn stuff. He is not easy, but you learn a lot from him. Plus, he is a one of the nicest teachers I've had.
Great teacher. The nice thing about this class is he already has a topic picked out before the beginning of the semester. Because of this he makes it much easier to kfind sources and material for the topic chosen. Assignments are very guided. His classroom atmosphere is very condusive to class discussion. Better than the other teachers.
He is extremely helpful and willing to work with you. He makes learning clear and enjoyable
Brother Walz is an amazing professor! I am not much of a historical person, but he taught the class so well, I began to enjoy going to class just to listen to what he has to say about the history of this country.
This guy really knows what he is talking about. He is a wonderful teacher. Every time I walked out of class, I felt the spirit strongly, and I felt very patriotic. I consider myself lucky to have a teacher like Bro. Walz. I will definitely look forward to taking more classes with him.
Great teacher. It's a lot of homework, but we really learn, and he makes tests and quizzes easy as long as you've done the reading. As long as you do all the work, there's no reason not to get an A. Really nice guy, very helpful.
Brother Walz is a wonderful teacher. He has a lot of good teaching qualities. To name a few, he has a good sense of humor, he's willing to compromise on grades, teaches enthusiastically and he's super knowledgeable on the subject. I took him for American Heritage and would recommend him to everyone!
He's a great teacher! He makes history actually interesting and I highly recommend him.
He's a great teacher and actually makes history interesting
This was an amazing class. It lived up to my expectations. I would recommend his class and so would my friends. we loved it.
Brother Walz was a great professor. American Foundations took some time but if you read the material in depth you could do well on the tests. Also you could use your reading material on the test which was also very helpful. He was nice about questions and always said that you could go to his office for concerns. I would recommend him!!
Great teacher! Expect lots of reading, but you'll learn a ton. If you enjoy history at all, you'll stay interested and do good.
He's a cool guy and keeps conversations interesting. He gives incredible amounts of busy work and if you're shy, well that's too bad because he kills your grade if you don't speak a lot during class.
This guy is a the best American Heritage teacher. I took another teacher before him and had a really hard time keeping up with the class but Elder Walz is 1 really willing to help you. You will have to study though for the tests, but if you do. You will do great! Plus most of the tests were open book anyway!
I took the Thursday night 3-hour class and I still enjoyed it! He has the ability to make history really interesting, even if you are only taking the class to get it out of the way. He is willing to help but you will have to wait in line because there are a lot of students in the American Heritate class.
Great teacher and the reading is somewhat long, but the questions within the reading makes it easy to find the answer. He is helpful and cares about his students. You have to make at least 2 comments each class to have good participation... so don't be scared to speak up.
This class changed the way I write papers!! Bro Walz is super helpful. I've even gone to him with other history papers for other classes. He is a great guy and makes class interesting. This is not the type of class that you can skate through. It requires a lot of work, but this is college. This class prepares you for the rest of college.
Bro. Walz is a very interesting and fun teacher. Even my classmates who didn't like the topic found him interesting. He truly cares about his students and is very approachable. As long as you do the assigned reading, and pay attention in class, getting an A is not hard at all. I will definitely take more classes from him.
I really enjoyed Brother Walz class! He is very kind and understanding. Most of the lectures were boring. I would not suggest taking this class in the morning because it is very hard to stay awake. I liked that he used a notebook reader. The reading and outline for notes are all in the same notebook. Online tests were not too hard if you read.
I don't know WHY his easiness isn't higher, Bro Walz class was amazingly easy. You don't use a book [he makes a pack himself] and he's very enlightening. You get to use the packet when taking tests, the EASIEST A ever! Never got a B on his tests!
Amazing teacher. he gives you a booklet that has all the reading and work material in it and then for test you are allowed to use that book. all tests are done online so you dont have to go to the testing center. extra credit if you hand him your note book at the end showing you wrote stuff! my friend used my notebook to understand her other class!
Bro Walz is awesome. He teaches clearly, and is super smart, so he can answer your questions on the spot really clearly. You use a notebook that he wrote for class. As long as you answer the questions in the book, then you'll have all the answers for the tests (they are open book). Easy class that you learn a ton from. I'd recommend him to anyone.
Such an amazing teacher. Took several classes from him but history 300 changed the way I wrote about history. I always felt that he was accessable for help even though he was head of the history department. Great guy! Take the class!!
The booklet helped TONS. He wrote the whole thing himself. He is VERY knowledgeable on American History. I highly recommend him for this class.
He's very knowledgeable and encourages class participation. He has a notebook that you fill out daily, it's very easy to do so. He also has daily quizzes based on the reading asignments. What makes the class hard is writing the paper. You write a paper about how a certain era effected a county and the paper has to be written with primary sources.
Pick this class for American Foundations! It's such a good class. The tests are open book and online and the only homework you have is to read the book. That is all! But his voice can sometimes get a little monotoneish, so if you're the kind of person who sometimes falls asleep in class, don't take it in the morning.
Brother Walz is a very Knowledgeable teacher and the test is open book which is fairly easy!!All you need to do is taking notes and paying attention in class.
I had him my first semester for Am. Foundations. It was my favorite class! I love love love Bro. Walz! He super knowledgable and the tests are way easy! they are open book open note on iLearn. He is always willing to help you with whatever you need! HIGHLY Recommend this class!!!
Despite what other people are saying, I had a very hard time in this class. Brother Walz is an awesome guy and DEFINITELY knows his stuff, but I just had a difficult time with the content. History wasn't my thing. He wrote the textbook and all of the answers are in the reading and all his tests are online and open book. Tests are reasonable.
Truly one of THE best classes i have taken. Bro Walz is SO amazing! He teaches with such knowledge and he is so much fun! I was always laughing. READ YOUR ASSIGNMENTS! Its so key and you will get an A. Which he always tells you. I enjoyed this class so much and i would recommend it to anyone! Tests are online and open book! So worth taking!
Bro. Walz is such a great guy! I really loved his class however I would not recommend taking his night class. 3 hours of History kills. Also I love History and I didn't learn that much. The class is basically showing up, filling in the book and taking 6 online tests, open book! They are timed but if you do well on the test you'll ace the class!
The best history teacher I have had so far! He teaches clearly and is very organized. He takes time to talk and listen to students and answer their questions.
His class is a little repetitive. You do the same thing every class: listen to him lecture, using a power point while you fill in the blanks in a work book that correspond to the power point. You can use all your notes on tests. 5 tests and the final are the only part of your grade. As long as you attend lecture and take his notes, you'll get an A.
This is a hard class. Take it with Walz, he will work with you. I learned more from this class than anything else in my entire life. He is the most approachable teacher I've ever had, and clearly is there to help you. Do the work, put in the time, you'll do well. He is incredibly nice and gives great feedback.
Very clear on his expectations for his classes, even though it was a larger class, I felt like he cared about every individual's comments during discussions. Textbook was straightforward and tests were straight from the book that you do together in class. Best American Foundations teacher Ive heard yet. Highly recommended.
Brother Walz is an amazing teacher. He really knows his stuff, and he is very good about answering any questions that you may have.
Bro Walz is one of the best professors I have ever had. I do not like history by any means, but loved his class. I truly learned so much from him. He is very humble, understanding, and easy to approach. He really cares about the students. Easy class if you are willing to do the work.
Best foundations professor! Fill in your notebook from the powerpoint during class and you will ace the tests. Tests are open notebook. Very nice man, loves students and will help them at any cost. Take Bro.Walz for American Foundations!!
Bro Walz is amazing. He knows his stuff, and very patient if you can't understand a principle. He may sound monotone to some people but he can be funny at times. If you do your reading, each class period will be fun!
Brother Walz was an excellent professor. He is very calm and down to earth. He is not exciting, but he was far from boring. Great, clear, nice teacher. Also, has the Spirit in his classroom!
Bro. Walz makes his expectations of students very clear, values every student in class, and obviously loves history. His assignments are very doable as long as you work hard and regularly! Plus, Bro. Walz is a really funny guy. Highly recommended - you will learn how to be a true historian!
He is a great teacher. I loved listening to his lectures and he is extremely smart.
Attendance is mandatory. Class is never canceled. If you show up to class, do the reading and take descent notes ( what is on the power point) you can pass with a B. He is super passionate about the subject and wishes everybody would love it too. He does have EC opportunities and his class is designed so that if you try hard not to try, you fail.
Brother walz's character is hard to pinpoint. But from an observer in a 200 student class, he is a nice guy and teaches his subject well. He has his own textbook for students to read and answer some questions. Its a lot of reading, but easy work. Just takes time. This class depends on you having a desire to learn, otherwise it could be boring
This class is super easy if you just do the reading and take good notes. The tests are the major portion of your grade but they are all open book. Bro. Walz also puts everything you need on the test on powerpoint slides so all you have to do is copy them into the notebook. I did fall asleep in class a few times, so take the later class if possible.
Really easy! and a great teacher! Open book tests with an easy 3 hour timelimit, and a tons of extra credit.
Brother Walz is a good teacher. He knows what he is talking about. It's really just a lecture kind of class. You prepare before class by reading a butt load of stuff and then you come to class and take notes. Tests are all online and open book. Very easy as long as you somewhat pay attention.
Pretty easy class. Brother Walz really knows his stuff. The tests are a little hard, but he gives you all the material you need for the open-book tests, so it just takes patience on the tests. I learned a lot from this class.
Listen students! He's an awesome teacher and I mean it. He never gives out homework and his test are all open notebook. His exams are super easy and I can assure you you'll end up with an A for this class. Attendance is mandatory!
Great teacher. There are six tests to take, none comprehensive, and they are just about all your grade. He's a great teacher, interesting lectures, and consistent expectations that are easy to keep track of. If you do the work, (textbook reading at home and review/notes in class)you will never be lost in this class. I'd definitely recommend it.
I would never take another teacher for 300. He is incredible, and the nicest man! He paces you so you don't write your whole paper at the last minute and if you ever want to meet with him it helps so much! His class has a balance so its not as overwhelming as 300 is reputed to be.
REALLY GOOD CLASS! sometimes hard to stay awake, no graded homework, graded on attendance, and test scores. tests are open book online. you can open up his powerpoints as you take the test.
Boring teacher but the tests are open book. He wrote his own book.
Brother Walz is really nice, funny, and extremely helpful. All his exams are open book, and they really aren't that hard. If you are willing to put some time and effort into this class you will get an A. There are extra credit opportunities as well. TAKE AMF 101 FROM HIM!!!!!
I loved Brother Walz. I won't say he is easy, because he does require a lot of reading and filling out a guided journal for each class, but he is very straightforward. You know exactly what is expected of you. Brother Walz is willing to work with you, and very sweet. He has a very funny, dry sense of humor. He truly cares about each of his students
Brother Walz is a very nice teacher who loves his job. He really loves and cares for each of his students. Make sure to do the extra credit and always do your reading because that is the only way you will do well in that class.
DO NOT TAKE THE THURSDAY NIGHT CLASS. Seriously, you will regret it. Try to get a class that will allow you to get the material in chunks instead of being thrown on you within 3 hours. I think I would've really enjoyed this class had I not taken the 3 hour night class.
Bro. Walz is great I loved this class. Its a lecture class but its totally engaging I go in and sit down and time flies I don't even realize an hour and a half as gone by. I have learned so many new things and had old things more solidified. If you want to understand America better take from Bro. Walz he has become my favorite Professor
This is the class to be in if you just want an easy A. This is also the class to be in if you want to take naps. Brother Walz is a super nice guy but his classes are so boring. You just write down his slides into the textbook that he made. He is very knowledgeable but the only assignments you will have are online tests. Super easy, but very boring.
Waltz is super helpful. His test can be a little difficult and their long, but he is a great teacher. He loves what he teaches and he gives out some extra credit.
Brother Walz is a really nice, understanding teacher, but his class is boring and the tests are really hard. They're open note, but if you haven't done the reading they're nearly impossible. The reading is optional, but make sure you do it because your grade depends on it.
Brother Walz is an awesome teacher. He has some really great material. The problem is the his class can be really boring because all he does is lecture. His tests are all open book and there is no final. The test are difficult and require the reading to be done. It is hard to get a good grade because the test are the the majority of the grade.
Well I would say bro Walz is a great teacher. his class is very hard because all he does is lecture and you have to do all the reading. the tests are super hard but they are all open book open note.
Bro. Walz is a good teacher. His lectures aren't the most exciting thing, so I suggest taking the class at a later time. I took it in the morning and had to force my eyes open. Tests are all open note, so they are pretty easy. Read and do the workbook and you should do well in his class. I suggest him for FDAMF101.
Not an entertainer, per se, but a very knowledgable professor who is very approachable. Proves that ordinary people can excel in any field if they put their mind to it.
Brother Walz is a very nice guy. He is not very entertaining, but the classes are not hard. It is just a lecture everyday, and you have to do reading before you come to class. There are 8 tests, and they are all open book, and no finals and no projects. I would recommend his class!
Brother Walz is awesome! YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM! He cares so much about his students and loves what he teaches. All the tests are online and you take them at home. NO FINAL!
He is amazing at teaching cares about his students. He is quick witted and fairly funny. He defiantly knows his stuff and expresses the information simply and clearly. I never got bored in his class and I had his class from 7-10pm. I highly recommend his as a teacher.
I enjoyed his class. He made his own book that you can write in which is nice but you obviously can't rent. He was pretty monotone but if you paid attention you will learn a lot and catch is subtle but hilarious sense of humor. Tests were all online and open book and he gives A LOT of extra credit. Overall good class
He's a good guy, he's lectures aren't the most entertaining but if you listen to him you'll do all right.
He is a really good guy. We have a pretty big book and a lot of reading. It took me 2 hours to read for each class. I had 2 exams with 50 questions every other week and they are open book but really hard if you haven't read. You need to stay in class the whole time to count as attended. The class feels like forever if you don't like history.
He's an easy teacher. Open book, 3 hour tests on iLearn. The class itself is easy. Brother Walz can be boring but he can be animated when he chooses to be. Normally doesn't though.
I loved having Bro Walz as a teacher. If you do all the HW and the readings youll do fine. If you start to struggle he help you succeed.
SUCH AN EASY CLASS. Seriously. Open book tests, 3 hour time limit. If you read the material it's easy. Make sure you attend class, attendance is mandatory. Bro Walz is nice, but his voice is monotone.
I usually hate history, but Bro. Walz made me love this class! Of all the FDAMF teachers, he is probably the easiest one to please. Go to class, do the prepare reading, (highlight everything you think will be on the test!), and then the tests are open book/note. If you do that, it's an easy A. Easily my favorite foundations class!
Bro. Walz really loves what he teaches. His lectures can be kind of boring, but you take notes the whole time so it isn't that bad. All his tests are open book and online, they are hard if you don't read and pay attention in class. But if you do, they are fairly easy. He takes role everyday but gives you a few days you can miss without it hurting.
Great teacher really cares about the subject. Big text book a lot of reading and long/hard test but they are online and are open note. Good class I would take it again.
Brother Walz is awesome! I loved going to class and tests aren't that hard. Its an easy A if you go to class and do the reading. If you have the chance to take his class do it, you won't regret it!
Class is structured mostly around the readings from the textbook. He won't lecture that often if the class is engaged in the material and open discussions are taking place. He is a smart man and knows the subject very well. Be prepared for online quizzes and writing a list of questions for every reading assignment. This is the only redundant part.
Okay listen take this class online. It is open book. I chose bro walz because his past semester students took the tests on ilearn. he does not do that anymore. The tests are super hard and you have to read...A LOT! He was an okay teacher but very hard and the tests are not curved. I did better in anatomy. I only got a B because i worked really hard
if you want to take a class that will bore you to death, take this class. He gives you no information what so ever on what the test is going to be on. He wrote his own textbook and expects you to know the sections perfectly for the test. Very confusing, definitely try to avoid taking him at all costs
Lots of reading from the textbook that he wrote (usually 15-20 pages a night). Very few tests and grades are based entirely on the tests which are very difficult.
NOTHING is online anymore. ALL tests are in the TESTING CENTER and if you don't study everything to where you could teach it, good luck getting an A. The only grades you get are from the test. You have a lot of reading to do before every class, 20+ pages a night.
This is the first semester that his tests are in the testing center. As a result of this, they're not open book. It requires a good amount of studying. Also-- you need to attend class and pay attention. Do the readings and complete the journal entries. These will help you on the test and you can get extra credit at the end of the semester.
Brother Walz has set up his class very well. There is a text book (workbook) divided into sections. Before each class there is a reading and then questions about what you read. Then for the in class portion there is a section with guided notes that follow along with his power point. His class was very inspirational!
I ended up enjoying taking this class from Bro. Walz, but it was pretty challenging for me. His tests are hard but get easier towards the end. I really love that he has just one textbook that contains everything you need to know including an outline for the notes you will take in class. Lots of reading but super interesting.
Brother Walz is a really good teacher, but his tests are crazy hard! The tests are basically all that goes in the grade book. Get ready to STUDY!! Attendance is required to pass the class.
If you are in American foundations because you absolutely love it and you want to learn soo much about american history and it is a part of you, This class is phenomenal. BUT, if you are taking it because it is a foundations and you only hope to learn what you have to, like me, RUN. Crazy reading assignment, 20+ a night. And only grades are tests.
Bro. Walz is my favorite teacher I have. He knows the stuff really well. Takes as much time as needed for comments and questions (he loves questions) during class time while still completely covering all that needs to be covered and does a great job at it. He really cares about you and is very approachable if you need help. Read and you will pass.
I love Brother Walz. He is a great teacher. If you pay attention you will learn something every single time you go to class. Even if you aren't a huge fan of the subject you will still learn something if you want. He gives great material and fantastic resources! Use them! its up to you in this class. But its right in front of you.
Definitely recommend another teacher for American Foundations. Brother Walz is an amazing person, but... Class is completely made up of lectures off of powerpoints and it's as if he assumes you already know what he's teaching. The only grades are from tests. And in order to pass the tests I spend 4-7 hours studying before hand..
Brother Walz is an amazing guy. But, wow. This was my hardest foundations class. I would study for hours and hours on end and still get a C on the tests. There are only 6 tests so those will make or break your grade. As I said amazing guy, tough professor. He will be there to help, but if I could go back I would take from another professor.
Hated this class. Brother Walz is so painfully boring I was dying. I'm not that picky but I can't stand quiet hour and half lectures at 8 in the morning. Tests were super hard as well.
He has long lectures and is very passionate about it. There are powerpoints that he has and you will just copy what it says into the notebook he requires you to have. He wrote the text so it is bias towards his opinion. Try another professor. You shall not pass.
Long Lectures. If you hope to pass the tests, good luck. It used to be open book at home online tests, but students were unwise in the past, and now it hast to be in the Tc; now is super hard. Has study guide, but its vague-looking for specific answers. Can miss class up to 2 times. Must buy new textbook that you personally write in.
Brother Walz is so intelligent and is good at keeping students engaged. The tests are tough but studying even an hour helps a lot. I recommended him to all of my friends who have yet to take FDAMF
This was one of my favorite classes and one of my favorite professors. I genuinely learned a lot. Pay close attention to the lectures, fill the lecture section in the book, put an hour into the study guides and you'll be fine. Never got below an A. He really loves his students and is willing to work with you. I would take him a million times over.
Brother Walz himself is a very nice man, and I have some respect for him. His class on the other hand... not so much. The class is heavily biased toward republican and conservative ideologies, and at times I would have enjoyed hearing both sides of the coin. He wrote the textbook and materials, making it hard to see any other opinions.
Here's the thing about this course: 1) yes it was difficult at times. 2) It was totally worth it and helped me substantially. While Brother Walz gives assignments that can be a little challenging, he really helps you and makes it possible for you to do the best you can. He's so nice, and he believes that every student can achieve success. Take it!
Brother Walz is literally one of the worst teachers. I would spend around 8-12 hrs a week on this class alone. The homework is out of his textbook that he wrote and you have to read like 15pgs a night. The 6 tests are impossible and have stupid trick questions. Our class test averages were 66-80%. DOES NOT CURVE TEST! FIND A NEW TEACHER!!!!
Super hard. When I took the class, the tests were at home, open textbook. Then, a few stupid, stupid, stupid people somehow cheated, and now they're in the testing center. Without the book, the tests are ridiculously hard. Great teacher, kind of boring lectures, and hard tests. Get a different teacher if possible, but he's not a terrible choice.
I really enjoyed Brother Walz as a teacher. He provided me opportunities to do more than what was expected in extra credit opportunities. He did have some long lectures and if you're not very interested they can become boring. He is very positive in his feedback in class and out of class. I would suggest taking him as he was enjoyable and fair.
Brother Walz is an outstanding teacher, and I recommend any student who desires to increase their historical knowledge to take his class. You'll need the textbook, and will be expected to complete a reading assignment for each class. There are six exams, however, he provides study guides and answers any questions you might have.
Bro. Walz is a good teacher. Quite a bit of reading but nothing crazy, 15 pages two times a week. Be in class, get involved, do your readings, and you'll get an A. Not an Easy A but an A nonetheless. Some questions on his tests are tricky.. you kind of have to get to know him to know what he wants from the answers.
Homework is from a work book that he made. You have a journal activity due every class period. You'll need a printer for this class. Easy grader for HW. Gives tests like every other week. They are hard test.
Brother Walz was totally a great guy. He gave a ton of reading like 40-60 pages of reading MWF with some questions. It was easy and fun reading to be honest. He is great because he lets the students take the discussion where ever they want and we get a lot of cool conversations out of it. He is very traditional though so be cautious.
My favorite professor thus far. History 300 was my toughest yet most rewarding class, and Walz was perfect for the job. He knows how to teach to your level, and I learned so much form him. His expectations were high, but he helped you if you were willing to work for it. I was never bored in class, and really grew as a student and all around human.
Now this class was interesting. He is very very lecture heavy. He does try his best to add humor to his class. He gives points for showing up but only 5. No one really payed any attention because he lets you use your notes and anything else that will help on your tests. I liked his class a lot, and you can be entertained if you want to learn or not
This class has a simple set up, which makes it easy to stay on top of everything. There are six quizzes with corresponding chapters of reading from the textbook. There is an inch thick text book you have to read for the course, but it's not difficult reading. Great professor. Interesting lectures. Take the class from him!
Horrible experience, I have to retake the test because he is so hard. I got sick and missed a couple classes, I fell so behind even with him trying to help me. He didn't let me turn in late work even though I had multiple doctors notes saying I could not have come to class. His tests are super hard, you have to have basically everything memorized.
Assigns TOO MUCH reading, quizzes aren't easy. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is not worth it
Probably one of the best professors I have ever had. The class was excellent and he is more than willing to help you out if you need it. Not sure why people would have given him negative reviews, was definitely one of the the best professors in the entire depart, I have taken a few classes from him and they have all been excellent.
He isnt very nice and makes BYU-I feel like its not a private school
Brother Walz is an amazing history teacher! He is very passionate about America and the "old" principles of the constitution. He's very caring in the class and cares a lot about he's students. I would take any class from brother Walz, hands down best history teacher on campus! . . .Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of work involved, but worth it
Brother Walz is a quiet, more reserved person, but he definitely makes up for it. Funny, great instructor, and certainly knows his stuff. Definitely be prepared to read, since it is a history class. We had three different textbooks, a primary source book, and a couple of packets in the class. If you can do some reading, I recommend him a lot.
Brother Walz is a great teacher, and a genuinely good person. He cares about your grade and doesn't want you to fail, but he does require that you work hard in his class. He lectures a lot, but breaks it up with supplemental video clips and discussion. You'll read a ton, but it's not that bad. BYU Idaho is lucky to have Brother Walz!
History was not my forte so I obviously didn't enjoy. The textbook is written by him so you cant get used ones. There is ALWAYS homework and you will read a ton. Tests were open book.
A very good teacher. His lectures are filled with information that you need to know, and he will require a lot of reading. The tests are hard as well and you will need to study hard for those, but out of all of my classes that semester, I learned the most from him, and I enjoyed what I learned.
Brother Walz is a really solid choice for a history teacher. He had a very clear outline for the class and the expectations were straightforward. You read a lot and are required to turn in a page of answers every class but the questions aren't too difficult. He really knows his stuff and has been teaching for years! I would recommend him!
Brother Walz is funny, knowledgeable (and not afraid to say he doesnt know things), caring, and a totally normal dude. Had my doubts at first, but his class is super doable and educational if you actually read and participate in the discussions. Class is cut and dry: read, do homework, take open book tests. He allows more absences than most.
I loved him because he is able to teach you the facts, then get your opinions before he shares his opinion. He always asks for people's thoughts so you are able to learn from each other. I love the videos he would show us or the way he would use the class time. He is super helpful when it comes to feedback. Would totally take a class from him again
Bro. Waltz is a working-class hero. He wants you to succeed and even gives opportunities to excel. I looked forward to class every morning for the interesting topics, varying and creative teaching style, and the lively class atmosphere. He is fair-minded, kind, clear about expectations, and respectful. History how it should be taught!
Brother Walz is awesome. He is caring and compassionate and wants you to do well. He recognizes when you make an effort to participate in class and overall, teaches well. He is passionate about what he does as well.
Bro Walz is a good choice for history. He is caring, respectful and organized. A fair amount of homework, but also gives extra credit. Classes were pretty boring and the attendance policy was strict. Quizzes were poorly written and seemed like they were trying to trick you. Overall, though, he was not bad and the class was not too hard (eled major)
