B-O-R-I-N-G, but nice ??
BORING CLASS!!!!! INFORMATION OVERLOAD....three exams, a paper, short homeworks ever class....moderate amount of work...he is nice though
BBBOOORRIINNGG....really nice...but skips around in the book...hard to figure out what chapters you are studying...exams are either hit or miss..depending what info he puts on it...if you take him - do, if you have a choice - don't
Nice guy, does skip around alot
borin, talks and talks and talks for a 100 minutes staight...stay away..zzzzZZZZZzzz
He is extremely boring and talks in a monotone voice for 100 mins every class. Often contradicts himself as this is "not his study of work". Tests are very hard, and he does not answer questions when preparing for tests, only poses more question
Wiener's class get get really boring sometimes, but he's a really nice guy, easy grader, alwyas anounces tests and assignments. Also, he gives outlines for all of the chapters, so note taking is minimal.
i should not have passed this class but i did...with an A. one giant power point presentation. not at all engaging. he likes the material, but does not get you to like it too.
nice guy, not too difficult, likes participation and dicussion but has a hard time keeping the class awake for it. not much HW, and he gives out practice exams just like the real one. not a difficult class, but very boring at times.
nice guy but once you email him with questions, he gets pretty mean. not a fair grader unless all of your papers and oral reports are perfect.
Fairly boring but easy class. He gives you powerpoint notes for everything he teaches. Review those and the tests are a breeze.
looks like danny tanner-VERY smart guy.
Class could be information overload and this was my major, but he was nice though.

I learn a lot and worked hard in his class. He is very fair as far as grading and wasy to talk to. An very helpful professor and great eductator in the ecology field.
I have him for two classes this semester, and I gotta say they are very interesting. He makes the trips and lectures interesting. I strongly reccomend his classes.
he DOES look like Danny Tanner! That is so funny!

This man is boring. I barely did the reading and fell asleep in class, I worked hard on the presentation: He gives extra points for power point, and got an A. Overall he gave me a C+. Take Stead for env. studies.
Great guy. Very smart. One of my best classes at Ramapo.
even though his classes are kinda boring you can still pass his class. so long as you review the powerpoing presentations and read the assigned readings, you will do great in his class. you barely have to take any notes because he gives them to you.
Great professor, one of the best at Ramapo. Very accessible, smart, and caring!! He does expect alot, though, but he's challenging in order to get us to learn!! Highly recommend him!!
very good prof. Knows what hes talking about. gives sample test before an exam. very helpful. all his questions come from powerpoint slides. also helps if you pay attention.
good professor, nice guy...but a bit boring at times. overall not a hard course, i never read once and got A's and B's on his exams. just study the sample tests he gives you and you'll do fine. there's an easy paper/presentation too
My favorite professor at Ramapo. I had him for 2 classes this past semester, and I learned so much much more than I ever did in any other class! Very fair, very helpful and very inspiring! Take him for any Env. Studies or Ecology classes offered!
Awsome, he uses powerpoint in his lectures and gives you a copy of the slides, thisw makes it so much easier to pay attention to what he's actually saying. you learn more that way. Friendly, and approachable. Down to earth guy has a wealth of exp. Take!
grades veryyyy strictly. gives opportunity to revise, yet still grades harshly
Fantastic professor. Very thorough and easy to understand. Makes you think critically and abstract about environmental topics. Good course and is a fanatic of nature. If you like the env. field, you will find him to be superb. Very smart man, lectures are damn near right in the exmas. Pay attention!
If you aren't a science person then steer clear of this man.Grades ridiculously strict and tries to make things more difficult than they have to be. Sometimes keeps you after class is over..STAY AWAY!
I didn't know what to expect, but I loved this class. Prof Weiner is passionate about nature and science, and knows so much about it. Study the practice exams. Go on the nature walk.
really nice guy.. good professor. power point lectures. do and study the practice exams and you'll do fine on the tests.
I HATED this class..failed both his exams..very unclear..doesnt help u out at all..about 3 exams..paper n a presentaion...too much work..didnt like him at all..very boring...n he doesnt believe in letting u out early..DONT TAKE HIM..
People must really be lazy because his class was definitely not as hard as people below described it to be. Hes very passionate about the topic and altho boring, can be very easy as long as you pay attention and actually study. easy presentation/paper, exams arent too bad, gives sample tests, very nice guy.
Interesting professor, but grades by the book. We had 3 or 4 on-field experiences, which was so cool. He took us hiking to his favorite spots. If you want a stimulating class, or just want to have fun through experience, take this class.
Tough grader...but was a nice guy and we got to go on nature hikes and really gets into the class
neat class. you learn about stuff that matters. prof is really nice guy, understanding, lived in the amazon and africa.
He will push you to do your best, and as a result, you will learn a lot - perhaps more than you wanted to! It was a good experience for me overall, and highly recommended. He isn't a hard grader per se, but he won't give you an A until you've shown considerable effort.

His classes are a little boring, and he tells his classes he is a rough grader but his lectures are about interesting topics and he goes off topic a lot to talk about his experiences, really passionate about his work. I did not find his class to be that difficult if you do the work. Have to do a project nd present to the class, theres about 3 exams
Excellent teacher, truly enjoyed being in his class. He definitely knows what he's talking about, more so than most teachers I've ever had. His voice is incredibly monotonous, I found it difficult often to keep awake. He's a somewhat hard grader so be sure to keep on top of things. I took his freshman seminar class, had a great time.
he is a very nice man. tends to get off topic easily. some discussions are a little boring. overall i recommend this class. very helpful teacher and easy to talk to. work is managable.
Tough Grader!! He gives you SO much information and expects you to know it all. Doesn't really seem helpful. If you're not a science person stay away!! He doesn't tell you what he expects and then just gives you a crappy grade! Takes attendance and follows it to the T! Talks about Peru way too much.....
He has his priorities mixed up in life. He is too involved in his own little scientific world. This class is a gen-ed yet he acts as if everyone knows what he's talking about already. He evades your questions. He is too stiff. He's nice but not flexible, understanding, lenient, or helpful. He assigns math problems and assignments every week.
He doesn't hand anything back and makes excuses for how he is having a hard semester but expects your work to be impeccable. He tells you what margins, tabs, font, spacing to use on papers. 2 oral presentations and 3 exams. Final is cummulative. His tests are out of 90%. He expects you to know statistics and graphing.
he's a great professor to take if science is just a gen ed for you. he really is a genuinely nice guy and just wants to see everyone do well. he gives you plenty of chances to hand in late assignments and every paper you write for him is basic & easy. the tests are not bad at all, he tells u what to study. i got a B in the class without even trying
Had him for Ecology. Great class! I thought it was easy considering but that could just be me. There are 2 exams, a final, 1 group research project and a final research paper and presentation (ppr 2pgs & present'n 4-5 mins EASY). Questions on exams are fair game, he doesn't give you sneaky questions. Do the readings, participate and you'll do fine.
2 Long Exams, Too much Information and expect us to know it all. And a Final Cumulative. Take notes, and read the book, and participate.. if you ready to work your ass off you will do good. would not recommend for non science majors.
nicest man ever! his class was extremely interesting and he seems like he wants everyone to do well...if you go to class and participate and study for tests you will do well in his class
TAKE HIM. He's so nice and really does want all of the students to do well. You can tell that he loves what he does and this enthusiasm spreads to the class. Intro to Env. Science: Two exams, 1 paper, two projects. Nothing too difficult. I really enjoyed this class.
Good professor. Very interesting and extremely knowledgable on material being taught in the class. Gets off topic sometimes but material usually relates to the main topic somehow. Makes class fun and is very laid back and a really cool guy overall. Grading is a pretty fair B min. He makes up for it by being one of the coolest professors i've had.
No one loves group projects more than Professor Wiener BUT he's really nice. Don't think you won't be doing a lot of work, mostly powerpoints. Fun class, outdoor trips, and he totally knows what he's talking about.
I really didn't enjoy this class but i got a fair enough grade. Teacher is strict with grading, due dates, etc. Very little discussion with the students, he talked the whole time and would not allow more than a few questions. I would not recommend this class unless its required.
GREAT CLASS! Dr W is the coolest prof I ever had. Wealth of experience and keeps it interesting. He makes you think about what we're doin to the planet. The homework isn't too bad and he grades fair. He'll definitely keep you busy. Grades fair. I give him an A. I got a B, lol.
I really enjoyed having Professor Wiener. It was clear that he had very good command of the material and he did a great job of passing on his knowledge in a clear, understandable way. I thought the grading system was clear and fair. Most importantly, Professor Wiener is invested in making sure his students learn a great deal. It was a great class.
Professor Wiener really knows what he is talking about. He is a very knowledgeable, passionate teacher. He enjoys what he does and that really shows. Also, he cares a lot about about a students input even if it has nothing to do with the topic. Overall, he is a good professor who will teach you what you need to know and more.
general ecology. this guys is intense. he expects you to learn the material. he is a great teacher but this is not a class you can slide thru. you gotta put the effort in. great professor. nice guy.
This guy is NOT a nice man. First of all, his voice goes down every time he says a sentence so you struggle to hear him. Also, don't waste your time going to a review session- HE DOESNT HELP YOU. He does not answer any questions clearly. I don't believe he supports his students unless it favors him. Was excited for the class- now sorry I took it!
(Ecology): AMAZING professor. He really engages you in the info and makes it exciting. Great course. Exams require a lot of explanation (short answer etc). Study concepts heavily for thorough understanding you can relay. Learned so much in this course. He is very inspiring and has accomplished a lot- amazinggg professor. #1 for Ecology.
Great class. I learned a lot and became interested in ecology. You have to work for a good grade but he is a fair grader. I recommend Professor Wiener. He's passiaonte about his work and about students learning. You do a science project in the forest. This course has made me want to spend more time learning about nature.
Fair grader and fair exams though not easy by any means. His lectures are clear and thorough and I learned a lot about the topic. I came out of the class very interested in ecology despite dreading having to take it going in. If you have to take general ecology he's the guy to take it with.
Unreliable professor. Will constantly get distracted and repetitive. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST!
Really got me interested in ecology. I'm not an environmental science major but my major required I'd take this class. His stories from his experiences in the field are often interesting. I found most lectures entertain. He expects a lot on exams though. Very very specific.
This class was downright awful. Im good student & have no problem studying but he is the worst professor I have ever had. He's suer confusing and inconsistent, and it is impossible to understand what he wants - wont answer questions. IT FEELS LIKE HE WANTS YOU TO FAIL. He expects everyone to care about his research & memorize every example. AVOID!!
Class is intense. Doesn't answer questions and never gives clear guidelines as to what he expects, yet is a hard grader. Contradicted himself in lecture a few times and never seemed to care about our progress? Spoke way to much about his research, but I don't feel like I learned much. He confused me. I'm a good student, but wouldn't take him again.
One of my best classes. He shares his experiences in ways that make it interesting and makes you think about what you´re learning. I always looked forward to going to this class. Not easy but not crazy difficult either.
The stats class is very hands on. It is probably the best way to learn statistics that makes it interesting. Everything is very nit-picky so you have to pay attention to detail. at first you might not do so well but he gives you a lot of ops to correct your work. the workload is what you make it, you design the experiments. can use note for test
Every project was a group project, except for 2 short papers (1 page, single spaced). He literally told our class that it's his policy to not give A's unless the work is spectacular (i.e. something on par with his quality). I guess he's a nice guy, and I learned a bit, but not spectacular. Based the class on our group projects. Open notes final!!!
Like environmental sciences, or nature in general? Then he's for you. He's the man has great stories about the amazon. However, is a tough grader, he's a scientist, so he expects things to be accurate and on point. If you want to just cruise through then he's not for you. But if your open minded you'll learn butt ton.2% bonus for perfect attendance
AVOID. He is well-educated and knowledgeable in his field. With that being said, he expects you to remember trivial details on exams and tacts off points for everything. Goes off topic, unsympathetic, and doesn't give feedback or offer help. Talked way too much about his own research. One of the worst professors I've ever had
If you like environmental science/ecology then you will like him. If you are not into environmental stuff, you won't like him. He is a tough grader, his classes are hard, but I have learned so much. He cares about his students and will always go out of his way to help you out. He is a great adviser and even helped me with my career. He's great.
SUPER TOUGH. Very specific in what he wants. His way or the highway. You miss class or are late. You're done for. RIP
Quick breakdown: Dr. Wiener is a harsh grader, and especially annoying about attendance. Lecture wise, however, he relates content to personal experiences in research that are both stimulating and interesting (Peru, Brazil, Costa Rica). Out of the other ecology professors at Ramapo, I highly suggest taking him. Sure, he is tough, but you will learn
Sustainable Natural Resources: you learn alot but class isn't hard. It's an "Easy B" class. With minimal/normal effort you can easily have B or B+. It's tougher to bump it from B+ to A-, mainly bc it's tough to go over B+ on projects in class. Some of his expectations on projects are a bit too high, but you'll end up with your best work possible.
Pretty good professor but is an unbelievably harsh grader. Most the class fails the test and even presentations are hard to get good grades on. Only took the course because it was required but I definitely would consider finding a different professor if you care about your GPA.
Very passionate about what he does, and has inspired me in his Avian Ecology course. He can be inconsistent ( unpredictable syllabus, a bit nit picky, takes a while to reach out to him ) and his methods in fielding are a bit frustrating. Overall a nice and approachable person. You definitely will learn things in any of his classes.
He gives out group projects every week in this class, often giving only a few days for students to create a research design, collect data, and analyze it. These involved projects with very small windows to work on them is quite stressful.
He is most definitely passionate and knowledgeable about what he does. You will at least learn something in any of his classes. That said, DO NOT take his Research Design if you can help it. He's very nit-picky about grades and his expectations and syllabus are unclear and inconsistent, It's to the point that it is near unbearable.
He often gives incorrect information on a subject which is misleading, and his directions for assignments are wishy-washy, and can constantly constant change. While working on a project he assigned he will change some fundamental aspect of the project so we will have to do a major revision. He overloads us with work, and rushes us to collect data.
I love Dr. Weiner as a person but as a professor. No! He's a tough grader and expects us to come up with solutions to environmental problems that experts have not even figured out yet. Overall the class was and is manageable, but he's very unclear on what he wants in presentations. Thats another thing, you'll be presenting a lot! participate!
Bio majors do not take this class as your elective! I was an ENSC major so I had to take it. You will learn a lot in this class but it is difficult and he assigns group projects every class that you have to have done by the next class (3-4 days). The projects are very time-consuming! Good luck! Midterm + final are difficult.
Splits the class into different group projects. You will be out in the field 15 hours a week collecting data until about the beginning of November. We never see him out in the field...you will be on your own if you are in any other group but the bird group. Final worth 25% of grade which is dumb cuz we spend more than half the class out inthe field
I looked forward to going to different places each week. The quizzes are sort of tough. Everything else is easy and you learn so much. The exam is open book. Overall it was a great course.
Take this class if you are a science student. You do a bunch of group projects, the longest ones take a week or more. It's the best way to learn. The midterm and final are open-book and are a lot like the projects. Definitely one of my favorite professors at Ramapo. He is passionate and teaches you how to do real scientific research.
I like Prof Wiener and it seems that most other students do to. This is good, since if you're an environmental science major you'll have quite a few classes with him. Just be sure not to use your phone in class, that really ticks him off lol. Oh and for the field bio/ecol class make sure you have a reliable means of transportation!
Every assignment in this class is a group project. It seems like a pain at the beginning but it really helps you learn the material and get to know the other people in your major. He can be very nit-picky about wording and things, but honestly it is practical knowledge to have for the future if you're going into research.
Hybrid course, with most of the lectures being online. One group presentation a week on various topics. A lot of fun and discussion and learning. Everyone has to give three presentations over the course of the semester. No midterm but there is a final exam.
