easiest physicst teacher i ever had, watch out when he walks back and forth infront of the board, u will notice, he's really cool teacher, easy A sometimes he confuses himself in some problems.. ^^
he's really out there and gets off track very quickly
No Comments
Very easy. Don't need to go to class. just study from the book and homework problems. very boring. but is extremely helpful if you need it.
Seemed to read from book as lectures. Computer demo's and videos changed it up for the better. Pay attention and you'll do fine.
It boggles my mind how people like this remain at this school! Not only is this guy extremely monotone and boring, he brings his two little children to class frequently, where they run around and make lots of noise! He gets an "E" in my book!
This is an extremely boring teacher. His lectures don't help you, plus he doesn't have extra credit. If u don't want to mess up your gpa please don't take take this class with eric woods.
woods is cool, u never have to go to class. all u have to do is read the text book and get a good grade on the test.
personally I don't understand the low ratings. I thought he was an amazing teacher. He loves physics and space and loves teaching it. I dodn't have him for physics but have heard repeatedly that he makes it very easy the way he teaches
Absolutely great teacher, one time he brough his kids to class, they were like 3 yrs and 1 yr, he is really cool, and his tests are easy. Overall A
Dr. Woods is a very good teacher. Remember, phyics is HARD, he makes it seem much easier than it is. I got an A in his class. PRACTICE using the tools he gives you and pay attention in class and you'll do good.
He is a great teacher, and X of Space is really easy! The class is perfect if you dont go all you need to do is read, and if you do go you dont have to read.
good teacher and a nice guy, material is pretty simple, tests are for the most part easy
Eric Woods is an awesome teacher. He teaches Physics very well, and is very clear. HE SPEAKS ENGLISH GUYS!! He does many examples, and is very willing to help you if you dont understand. Tests are ok, just study.. he gives you a sheet with equations on it.
This guy teaches like a high school teacher. I definately recommend him. His test are very simple. there is no way you're gonna fail this class.
Cool guy
i think he just gives good grades so it makes him popular with the students and its so easy to cheat on his tests! thats a problem if you actually want to *learn* physics and want to major in it! bad teacher if u want to learn physics
Pretty easy class, although I found it hard to go to because of the idiots that just sit there and talk while he's lecturing(I hope you all failed). But luckilly, you don't have to go, just read the book and understand the questions in the practice tests.
Very clear, knows his stuff, which is often interesting. Also, he's very good about letting you make up tests.
Very smart man, an overall nice guy. READ THE BOOK. the tests are made up of everything from the book. you don't have to go to class as long as you read.
This class is very interesting. Some times his lectures are a little boring. Attendance isn't mandatory. You should go on all the days he has a video showing. Most of the stuff you learn is very useful.
his crazy face will keep you entertained for the first half of the semester, and other than that the class is really easy and all you do is watch videos at the end. if you plan on going to class, dont buy the book.
this is the most boring class i have ever had to take. I def. think it is more of a class for boys. If your not gonna go to class then make sure you do readings. overall the class is just too boringggg to sit through every other day.
WHOA - WTF ARE YOU PEOPLE ON? I hate this class, had a love for space now shot to hell, and besides that, the professor is a moron. Why isn't the TA our teacher. He knows his stuff much more and even though he can be rude when helping us, at least he knows how to convey what is on his mind.
He doesn't speak very loud so even if you plan on paying attention, you have to listen over all the other students conversations. READ the textbook, go to class when there is a video (which is usually pretty interesting), and go to the review sessions before tests.
class is interesting, but it is hard to get a lot out of it because of the size and constant lecturing
Willing to do whatever he has to do to make sure the class does well. He doesn't want to see anyone do badly. I HATE PHYSICS but he actually made me somewhat understand it. GREAT teacher
whats up with his face? easy class, just do the multiple choice review tests at the end of each chapter and your set. go to class too, but you only need to half pay attention, most of the stuff just sinks in, i just played tetris or slept, but got a B+ without studying.
Boring, but not a terribly hard class. If you go to class you don't really need the book... or you could do it the other way around. Either way you'll be fine.
I actually enjoy this class very much. For some reason, I vibe with the way he teaches and I feel that the class is very interesting. I love the computer simulations he uses and the projector pictures. If you suck at science but need the credit, I would highly recommend this course.
Once you get over the childishness of calling him two face (his beard is half white, half black, I suspect because of a chemical accident) He's not a bad teacher. He makes good use of slides, plays a couple movies, and if you do the practice tests from the text book a lot you're guaranteed an A.
Exploration of space is kind of a hard class. To get an A you either have to be really good at memorizing the practice tests or actually go to class and put in a lot of effort. However, it's really interesting and he's a nice guy, very smart and helpful. The class is so big its hard to pay attention.
very good
This class is great. All you have to do is pay attention in class, you really don't have to study the notes. And before each test just do the practice test. Great for those of you that need a Natural Science and aren't too good at hands on sciences.
Good guy, great class, easy to pass as long as you show up and somewhat pay attention. It wasnt a chemical accident that made the right side of his beard white, he has the "micheal jackson" skin pigment disease lol
He is an INCREDIBLY intelligent profesor. He knows so much about so much. He has the ability to explian himself and theories to students clearly. He is by far one of my favorite professors.
Pay attention in class: he deviates from the book a lot. Tries to be super clear and helpful and a nice guy. DOES have four kids, so he missed a couple days (and apoligized a ton for them). Tests moderate in difficulty and require studying. Occassionally gave extra credit :)
This guy is not all he's cracked up to be. I'm surprised at the number of good ratings he got. I mean, he doesn't drop or even curve any of his tests. They're pretty hard, and he really doesn't care how his students do. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think he's that good.
another boring gen ed. he put the notes online for us, so i never went to class for the last third of the class (got an A- overall). doesnt curve, just uses a set points system. class is easy, and his tests are easy if u study. avg gen ed, could have been worse for sure
Woods was a good professor. He explained things very clearly. Just try to go to class most of the time, find a friend or two in the class to study with, and use the excellent review sheet he gives you in the beginning of the year. He did drop the lowest test in my class (final excluded), and offered extra credit twice (but it was pretty tough).
um. well, the class was really easy. I just had to read through the notes before each test, and do the practice tests. He isn't bad, but he isn't someone that I loved either. And the beard!
i took space and thought it was so hard..got a 62 and a 56 on the first 2 tests and then dropped it. He gives u practice tests but they suck and dont help for the test. Hes a nice guy but the class was not for me
this class is a joke. i cant count the number of times i went on one hand.. and not use all my fingers... read the notes online and do the practice tests online and you can pass with a B or an A.. dependson how much you really care about this class
I really don't know how, but I never showed up, recieved a C/D average on ALL my tests, and some how got a B for the class? Do the practice tests and all is well.
easy class. just read the notes and do the practice exams and you'll pass....you dont even have to go to class to end up with a good grade.... trust!
easiest class u can ever take. easier than nap time(which it kinda is). never go to class, EVER..he reads str8 off his notes which are posted online. gives practice tests from which he takes 70% for the real tests..dont go but make sure u read the notes and do practice tests b4 actual test. easy class for a tough gened..all mc tests no hw/attten.
He is very clear about what you need to know for tests, but he can be hard because he requires you to know so much information.
While attendance isnt really necessary to do well in the class, I like to go because he is a very good teacher and you can tell he loves the subject.
Interesting class, he is a great teacher and really loves the subject. The notes for the class are online, if you read them before the test you will do very well on the test. Take this class, its interesting and easy.
Exploration of Space was amazing. Very interesting, down to earth, and nice man. Makes class worthwhile.
actually an interesting class and woods presents the information so its easy to understand. however, he posts all the notes online, so it's not necessary to go. i managed to miss several classes and still make an a.
I really didn't go to class as much as I should have and that's why I got a c, but the material covered is really interesting and I find this guy to be a really good professor. He really makes the material interesting...plus no attendance taken, no textbook, and four multiple choice tests for your grade
If you do bad in this class, you really shouldn't be in college. Not including test days, I went to class a grand total of 3 times and got a B. Nuff said.
He isn't a bad professor, but i didn't like his grading system. You grade is based off of 4 tests. You don't have to go to class b/c he just posts all the notes online to a "T". He's tests can get a little ridiculous b/c he'll give you 40 pages of notes and ask for exact details on the test. Overall, nice guy, good teacher. Take this if you need
This guy is the man, the course is good. If you really want u can not show up to class the whole year and still do good. Good teacher and if you dont like this course your retarded.
The class was actually very interesting even though I really do not like science that much. I would recommend this class for students with science majors just because the material can get too much sometimes. Grade is based on 4 tests only! However he does give extra credit! Good Professor.
Grade is based on 4 tests, not cumulative, and many chances for some extra credit. Great guy who really enjoys what he does.
Class was a joke. Kind of hard to understand all the material in class, especially if you never go. All lectures are put online along with practice exams. As long as you read the lectures thoroughly before the exams you will do fine. No homework in the class either.
I thought this class was okay. I hated the exams - it barely related to the material.
Very nice, totally approachable. Efficient grader, offers extra credit. Class gets boring or is hard to get through at times- definately helpful if you've taken some kind of physics or astronomy class before!
You 100% do not need to attend class. If you like to think (which most college students should) you will want to attend this class. You learn some of the coolest stuff in here. By the time you're done you'll feel like the tiny little speck that youare. Awesome class, awesome professor, awesome A. Did I mentioin this class was awesome?
AMAZING!!! Take this class. I hate science... i took it for the gen ed and omg, its so easy, actually interesting, and he is a great professor... i wish there were more classes like this here, i would like the school a lot more
Awesome classs, excellent professor.
HARD CLASS!!!! everyone loves it but i dont know why its booooring. i got a B- and i worked realllyy hard 4 it. idk i would NEVERRR recommend this class but thats just me!
No text book required, all notes are online along with practice tests. Attendance isn't mandatory, just study the online notes and practice tests and you'll do fine.
Very nice, tries to make the class interesting. No need to go to class, no textbook to read, the notes along with practice tests are online. Tests will be hard if you do not study, but if you know your stuff you'll do fine. He's very good at explaining things in simple terms too.
Thoroughly enjoyed this course. Very interesting material, material explained well. Exams are easy if you know your stuff. He's a very nice guy, so don't take advantage of him. No textbook required, and he states at the beginning that attendance isn't mandatory. Read the power points before class! Interesting stuff. Recommended.
I registered for this course, seeing that everyone said it was an easy course, and all these good comments about him here. I went to class, i studied, and i am an A student, but I couldn't seem to pass these exams. The lectures are much more simpler than his exams. Questions are crazy and difficult. dont take this class. i had to withdraw,+ no txtb
really nice guy, makes space as interesting as possible. tests are really hard. if u dont do really well consistently you will end up with a C. no attendence, one 10 pt extra credit, no textbook. all notes are online so u dont have to go to class but the best thing is to go to class and then copy notes from online. that will get u a GREAT GRADE
Amazing teacher!! Really has a passion for his subject, is great with explaining, attendance isn't required but lectures are really interesting. All notes are posted online, RE-READ THE NOTES OVER AND OVER AGAIN PRIOR TO EXAMS!! they are a bit difficult!! you really have to know your stuff. Extra credit is available. i recommend!!
Excellent teacher. I really enjoyed this class and he is very helpful if you don't understand something. Makes class interesting and tests are really easy as long as you study the notes for a couple of days before. Even if you're not interested in space it's still a good class. Be sure to sign up as soon as you can because it fills up quick.
Tests are more challenging than the notes given! Class is a breeze and usually interesting. No homeworks, 2 different opportunities for extra credit. Notes are all posted online. Overall, good class to take!
dont take this class. the test have nothing to do with the notes or the practise test. no class notes either so basically you have to use his online notes which are extremely long and confusing.
Do not underestimate this course. Up until the first test you will think this class is going to be a joke. It's not. I had one of the top grades in the class, but it took FAR more effort than classes usually ever take me. Study the online notes well and take the practice exams if you want to do well. Taking your own notes is not really necessary.
Very good teacher. This class is awesome. Exploration of space was my favorite class. His test are somewhat hard but if you follow the notes you should fine. It may help somewhat to come to class but its not imperative to getting an A. Great class!. Not an easy though, but if you put in some effort you should get an A
great
i enjoyed this class. attendance is not mandatory all the notes are posted online. i skipped a few times here and there. tests are hard but if you study and do the practice problems youll be fine
Great Guy. However, the lectures tend to be boring until the end. I skipped going most of the classes, went to the review sessions, looked at the online lecture notes, and got an A in the class. GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS. Oppurtunities to extra credit. When i did go, i really liked the class, i reccomend it.
First 3/5ths of this class were excellent and interesting. Last 2 were based totally in fantasy, and you are unfortunately tested on it as well. Still, a nice guy, very interesting material, coming from a person who was not interested before.
Great class, my favorite so far. Really easy if you take notes in class, read his online notes and do the practice tests. I had an easy time with it, but the rest of the class didn't as he had to lower the standards for each letter grade. Some material that he tests on is not in his online notes so go to class.
All the notes are online, so you don't need to go to class, however you will be missing an extremely interesting subject and passionate professor. Try to do all the extra credits. The exams are detail-oriented, so you need to study well.
Professor Woods is extremely passionate about space. A total nerd but a great teacher. All of the notes are online and attendance isn't mandatory but you should go, his tests are VERY detailed. Practice tests help a lot. An easy class for a gen-ed if you go and do the work.
my dad took exploration of space when he went here so i thought why not? ended up loving it, woods is a great teacher, keeps things interesting. go to the reviews before the tests, they help a lot.
Great teacher, who cares about their class and what they teach. Lots of information to learn, tests are rough, but an enjoyable class.
Professor Woods's Exploration of space class blew my mind. I just took it to get my physics credit, and came away from the class with a completely new comprehension of the universe. Now every time NASA does something in the news, I jump on the chance to learn about it. 5 stars.
Heard that this class would be dull and boring, but I had a GenEd requirement to fulfill. Luckily, what I heard was wrong. Woods, his TAs (Phil, especially) were great, as was his class. Thoughtful and informative, and often humorous, it was worth going to his class, even when attendance wasn't required, just to sit, listen, and watch. No textbook!
pretty good class, tests are pretty hard, no textbook needed and attendance is not mandatory. Posts all of his notes online, but it's a lot of material when to study for an exam.
it's an interesting class. woods is a nice guy, but his tests are just plain ridiculous. i don't suggest this class, it's hard for no reason. no textbook, and does give extra credit opportunities cause he knows he makes the tests hard for no reason at all
Class sucks. The notes and everything he talks about online has absolutely nothing to do with the test. oh by the way tests are your entire grade. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
I find this class interesting at least... but its not for you if you dont like space and that kind of stuff... if you dont go to class and only read the online notes, you'll probably do bad... if u take the practice tests he gives you will do fine... but the grades are based purely on 4 tests
Took Exploration of Space with him last semester. I may not have been a fabulous student; coming 30 minutes late to an exam. But its's interesting material and I did just fine. Being a Poli Sci major with no intent on studying much physics- I'm glad I took the class.
AWESOME CLASS. Prof woods is THE MAN
woods is definitely passionate about what he teaches and it shows. however, i feel like this class is much harder compared to the other introductory sciences (oceans, nutrition). i really like the content of the course, came to almost every class and review session and will probably end up with a b-. as others have said, unnecessarily hard
Very good teacher, made it so the class wasn't boring. Def my best professor so far.
Environmental Physics was a bit disorganized, but Prof knew that and gave the students a break on grades. Class is mainly about Global Warming with some physics randomly thrown in. Four HW assignments which were very hard and not covered in class. Three tests, two were take home and pretty easy. 5 pg paper/project. W/ the curve, was an easy A.
took explor of space, which was great so i decided to take env physics. hes a great guy and a good teacher and i usually looked forward to going to class. as said, mostly about global warming with some physics thrown in. class wasnt incredibly structured but he did a good job and was very open to student ideas as well. id recommend any class of his
Took exploration of space, he made things very intereasting and clear. I loved his class and hes a great teacher and person!!!!
He is such a good teacher! easy class!! i highly recommend it
Very entertaining professor who is passionate about what he teaches. No textbook is used for this course. Class content is engaging and I would recommend it to anybody who has an interest in space and needs to kill a gen ed. Tests are easy.
Professor Woods is without a doubt the best instructor I've had so far at Albany. He's passionate about the course content, and really excites his students about the subject. I took exploration of space with him, and came to class because I enjoyed it rather than because I had to. I highly recommend everyone to take one of his courses!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really interesting class. He gives you practice questions before all exams so it is easy to prepare. He also gives multiple chances for extra credit. He is really laid back, and a nice guy as well. I would definitely recommend him.
Excellent professor, truly makes class interesting! You have to have an interest in this class to do well. If you pay attention in class, you will do fine. No book, but Mr. Woods is more than willing to answer questions and provide information online.
Eric Woods is by far one of the best professor's I've ever had. The classes can get pretty boring, but some are really really interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory and theres no homework. 4 tests per semester.
one of the few sciences that doesn't require a lab. take it only if you're interested in the subject, its a very interesting class and eric is a great prof. no hw, texts, etc. just 4 tests throughout the year with a built in curve. very straight forward and don't let his look fool you, he is really nice and an awesome guy
Excellent teacher. Absolutely NO reason not to get an A. 99% of the material to get an A on tests is on online notes. Devote 5 hours straight to reading and jotting down the online notes, the night before a test and I promise you will get an A.
This professor is amazing. He's really sweet and simple. The only way to fail his class is if you don't go, and even then there are notes available online.
A really great guy, with a genuine passion for what he teaches. Take his courses - you won't regret it.
Fantastic teacher who knows what he is talking about and how to explain his lessons. He puts himself into his lectures and encourages students to look at space through the campus telescope. highly recommend taking his class
Class can either way. For the most part its easy, there is no HW and he put all the notes online. Just take the time out to look at them. Going to class would prob be better tho even tho its not mandatory. He explains things thoroughly and as understanding as possible.
woods is one of the best teachers i've had! hes very passionate about his subject, and it really shows in the way he teaches. even though it's not mandatory to go to class, i think it helps a lot to go. No homework, and he posts notes online. Very interesting class, absolutely loved it, definitely a class to take!
Eric Woods is a great, smart professor. Attendance is not mandatory and grade is based on 4 exams. If you go to class, take notes, review all the notes he posts onine, easy A.
If u need a gen ed, take this course. Not the mosit engaging, but his reading material that he post is excellent. come to the test, show up for extra credit and you will actually leave with a little more knowledge than u had. in no way was it a complete waste of time or money
His test questions do not come from his practice questions. My friends and I all took this class and found out that going to class will not help you. Everything is online
Awesome and amazingly interesting class. Woods loves what he teaches and makes it very fun to listen to him lecture. 4 test, 3 out of 100 final is 150 for a total of 450. Offers 10pts ex-cred for going stargzing once and another 40 if you make a really good space song or create a story. Deff very easy to get a B+ to A. Deff reccomend this to ALL.
Easy class, attendance helps a lot as he includes stuff he only mentioned in class on tests sometimes. It's also better than reading the modules, just attend and do practice questions, plus he's a great lecturer!
Wood's the man, plain and simple. He's clearly interested in what he teaches and it definitely made me more interested. I'm an english major and he made me want to learn physics. That in and of itself made the class worth it.
Exploration of Space. Really interesting subject, super interesting stuff. The teacher's great and everything, the only downside is that the tests are pretty hard. I guess if you take some time before the exam to thoroughly re-read your notes plus the online ones, you should be fine. Attendance is not mandatory.
LOVE Woods! He doesn't use a textbook, instead has everything very organized on blackboard. His lectures are extremely interesting, and he's hilarious, makes you want to go even though they're not mandatory. His exams are neither hard nor easy. If you read over all the notes and take notes before the exams, you should do fine. Best Professor Yet!
This class is insanely boring and completely unnecessary to attend! Just review the online notes a night or two before each exam and you'll be fine. I ended up getting 60s on all the exams and did the extra credit paper and ended the class with a B-, absolutely no work :/ Definitely recommend taking this as a really easy Gen Ed!
Not that easy of a class, actually requires you to either read on your own the notes he puts on blackboard, or just go to class! If you do either and review the practice test till you know all the answers you should be fine. With some work you definitely could get an A.
His exploration of space class is pretty easy. He's a good lecturer and for the most part keeps an uninteresting subject interesting. You do not have to go to class but if you don't then you must read his online slides. If you do either (or both) and study his practice tests you can certainly get an A. I recommend him.
A very interesting class with a professor who really knows how to teach. He teaches this class very well, and makes it very possible to give an A. Attendance is not mandatory, but his class is interesting, and very helpful to attend. If you attend class, and study his practice test online, you will be very happy with your grade. Favorite professor
Very interesting class. Woods is a great professor. If I was more into the physics aspect I would def. take one of his classes. I went into this class with low expectations but it turned out to be one of my favorite classes. Tests are very easy if you do the practice test online and take good notes. Highly recommend.
Took Wood's online APHY 103 class through Blackboard. Very easy class, especially if you don't want a lab or wanna catch up on credits. No textbook, he has "slides" on blackboard and requires you make one discussion post a day, along with 1-2 relatively easy assignments.. highly recomment
One good thing is that attendance is not required because all the course info is online BUT there is SO MUCH INFORMATION. I never knew how to study for his exams because I didn't even know where to begin. He never tells you what you'll be tested. 4 exams throughout, multiple choice. If you have no interest in space stuff, don't take this class.
Honestly, it's just way to much material to memorize for a GENED class. I had to S/U it. He is very clear and in class I seem to understand everything but once the exams come around I bomb them. It's interesting but I'd rather not have to memorize certain spacecraft maneuvers and all for no reason.
Yo screw da haters, this guy is awesome. I enjoyed the class and i know he enjoys teaching it
This guy is smaaaaaart. If you have an interest in astronomy and space, take this class. He is super nice, and the class is fascinating.
If you are taking this class cause you are moderately interested in space, don't! Cause it is an overload on information. If you are totally obsessed and into knowing the ins and outs of every space craft ever created and the planets, go for it. The teacher knows what he is talking about, but the information is just alot to take in.
Great Professor. I took his space exploration class and it was one of the best class i had taken at Ualbany.
No physical textbook to be bought, it's online. The material is amazing, he's excited about teaching. Makes it entertaining, I didn't want to miss a class because I loved learning about it. I wasn't interested in Physics before but this class made me curious for more and now after a few others I am a physics major. ALL students should take this!
Eric Woods is a very engaging, passionate professor. He really cares about the material he is covering and is very helpful during office hours. The material is boring at times and going to class is a waste. I went a total of twice and got an A. Just study the power points carefully.
Woods is a nice guy, there's no textbook because he posts everything online and class isn't mandatory, but if you are taking this class because you think it will be an easy A, DON'T! I definitely don't reccommend unless you are genuinely interested in this topic because it is a TON of information.
Favorite professor at UAlbany. Really passionate about the subject material, and he goes out of his way to make it interesting. Professor Woods is the best!
My favorite professor at UA, would def recommend this class
Such an amazing class, challenging intellectually, such amazing concepts and topics to think about. No textbook for this class and attendance was not mandatory but if you don't go to class you miss the great lectures. A great professor for a great class, I definitely recommend taking this class for an elective.
Take this class!!! Its really interesting. No textbook required, he wrote his own textbook online. Lectures are really interesting but not mandatory (But seriously go, you're missing out on the coolest stuff!) Counts for a gen ed but I took it as an elective! Offers extra credit and reviews for tests! Take this class!
Very passionate about the subject. Easy to understand. No text book. Wish there were more teachers like him at this school.
Great professor, loved interaction with students and always responded to many posts. Good material and easy to stay focused on. Would recommend to anyone interested in the solar system and space exploration!
4 easy multiple choice exams.
Eric is very very passionate about the topic and it is clear he has a vast knowledge of space. All of the information you will ever need is online, personally written by him, designed the same way he would teach a lecture. You can miss every class and still see every video, picture, diagram, and read every word he would have said in class.
THIS CLASS IS SOOOO HARD! i looked over the reviews here and i thought this would be an easy gened but ITS NOT. tons of information and you have to UNDERSTAND it to get through the class. failed the first two exams and i dropped this class right away. DO NOT TAKE IF YOURE NOT INTERESTED IN SPACE.
Take home tests. They are HARD, much harder than a regular physics test.. but still, it is take home. I received an A. And 15 of the grade is participation.. Very passionate, interesting lecturer, he definitely has a passion for Physics and it shows. The class structure is somewhat unorganized, I really liked it though Dont buy a book, either
He's a great professor. Tests are usually 5075 MC and are fairly straight forward. He has practice exams online that reflect the test very well. So if you just go to class and look over the practice test 2 or 3 times, you'll be fine. Also provides an extra credit assignment that can potentially boost your grade by half a letter. (87+ A)
Eric Woods is an amazing teacher! The information in the class is not the easiest to comprehend as other gen ed courses yet his passion for the topic of space is amazing. If you have a question, ask! he responds with great detail! the test are average and questions are a bit random. He is a professor which has passion for what he teaches!
Eric Woods was by far my favorite professor at UAlbany. Exploration of Space was the most interesting class, and I would take it again if I could. He has so much passion for the topic, and it makes the class just that much more enjoyable. Don't expect this to be an easy A, there are some more difficult concepts but the class is amazing!
Entire class consists of 4 exams plus an extra credit project which can boost your grade by almost an entire letter grade. Great guy. Tests are sometimes rough if you don't prepare for and study for them. Good class, I finished with a B+ and finished my science gen ed.
Woods is so passionate about what he teaches and he really inspired me with the Einstein relativity lecture. Your grade is comprised of 4 tests, none dropped. If you're not familiar with space then take good notes. So many interesting lectures! All of the tests will be a piece of cake if you study for a few hours and do the practice tests.
This online version of this class is a 6 week 1 summer course. It is ridiculously hard (coming from an A student in the Criminal Justice program). I would never recommend this to anyone unless you want to spend like 4 hours a day on this course.
Very enthusiastic professor. He really knows his stuff and you can see he is very passionate about the subject. 4 Tests, no homework. The material you need is on blackboard but attendance is HIGHLY recommended because you will be taking a TON of notes. Do all the practice exams, show up for class and you will get a good grade. I passed with an 89
I took him for 106 because he's so awesome. You have to go to class because of his grading criteria but all he gives are test. Test questions are challenging but they all Take home Test so you'll have time to figure it out. NO textbook, no homework, no quizzes. If you suck at physics, TAKE HIM
Exploration of Space is the hardest course i've ever taken. The tests are so hard even if you go to class and study like I do. I talked to all the people who sit near me in the class and almost all of them have failed all the tests also. Idk if prof woods is planning on failing all of us.
No attendance required but you won't pass if you don't show up, no homework. Only four grades , which are 4 tests
Lectures are boring, have to go to class though and listen to him. I suggest you DO THE READINGS before class, it's just a bunch of blogs he puts together. They are supposed to complement his lectures. Three exams non-cumulative & non-cumulative final with a couple questions from previous chapters.
Professor woods is very smart, but knows how to help his students understand challenging material. I loved his space exploration class, and honestly learned a lot.
if you like space and the universe then you have to take this guy. you can tell his passion for the stars and he has a lot of interesting material. it's important to go to every class.
Overall good professor. Makes lectures interesting, and offers a huge extra credit assignment at the end of the semester that usually bumps your grade up at least 2 letter grades. He also has practice tests online, which are VITAL to take before a real exam.
One of the best teachers at UA very friendly, nice, and conveys his lesson so that people that are not experts in science can comprehend
straight forward class. Study lightly for the classes and you'll get an A. He also a very good lecturer.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Material is actually really interesting. Class is made up of 4 tests and attendance/participation but he does offer a big extra credit project. The whole class clapped for him at the end of our last lecture. Highly recommend.
A great professor! He is so smart and makes the material interesting. Everything is so straight forward and he offers big extra credit. Highly recommended!
Make sure you show up to class and put in the attendance code, attendance counts as another test grade
Very interesting class, wish I still took it.
Basically if you show up and pay attention you'll get a B+ easily.
Very caring professor who loves teaching things hes passionate about. Always teaches with enthusiasm and makes lectures fun. Tests were fairly challenging and cover lots of material but everything is provided in class and on blackboard. Offers generous extra credit project that's fun. Would definitely lake another class with him
Professor Woods seems to be really interested in the subject he teaches yet his lectures are so boring. He shows so many videos that he claims we don't get tested on. His module notes are really not helpful and his top hat slides are just pictures. He does post practice tests with answers explained which help you pass. Only good thing is no final.
Best professor! His Exploration of Space class is very interesting and he loves what he does. If you pay attention, you don't need to study a lot. Highly recommend!
He isn't as terrible as a lot of people make him seem. It isn't a easy A unless you are interested in physics or space. YOU NEED TO READ THE MODULES AND DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! You can doze off which I did a lot of in his lectures. Make sure to get a 100 on top hat (attendance/participation) Also go to his office hours he will help you if he can.
He was a great professor who really cared about what he was teaching and encouraged participation and student opinions.
Do not take his class unless you are genuinely interested in space exploration. Even though there is no textbook, there is ALOT of reading and can be difficult to catch up with. He's very passionate about what he teaches but for a 100 level course, it is challenging especially since the readings are really long and have a lot of material.
I shouldn't have trusted the level of difficulty cause I walked in believing this would be an easy class but it really isn't. I have no idea what is going on and the readings are also really long and have a lot of material in them. Besides that, the professor really cares about what he teaches and he shows this off during his lectures.
don't take this course unless you want to be stuck doing two hour long readings after every class and have to go through all those readings along with practice questions in order to study for the tests because you will be miserable if you're taking the course just for the credit unless you have a true interest in space and planets
4 tests worth 20% each, last 20% is attendance and participation on the tophat website, was a really great and interesting class taught by a knowledgeable and funny professor.
Make sure you do the final extra credit project, can bump you up two letter grades. Professor Woods loves what he teaches and tries his best to keep it interesting, do decent on the test's and you'll be fine.
Show up to class, free points that will bump up your grade by a whole letter. Do the extra credit, it will bump up your grade by a whole letter again. Study for tests and you'll be great. Just show up to class, this is actually one of the most interesting classes in UAlbany. Great professor too, passionate of what he is teaching.
His review for tests are online on top hat and there are multiple correct Right answers then u go to take the real test in class (multiple Choce) and theres only one answer that can be correct how does that make any sense? passing but barely and its def effected my grade
took this class for a gen ed. i do not have an interest in science and find this class EXTREMELY difficult. he has 50 question review on blackboard and top hat that do not really help on tests. first two tests are the hardest. would not recommend this class to anyone unless you want to put in work for a gen ed class.
He is a fair grader
Pay attention in class, do the top hat review questions and you'll be fine. I never read any of the readings. So if you fail it's honestly your fault. I took it the semester the final exam was cancelled and he handled the situation well. Paying attention in class pass. Being on your computer the whole time fail. Don't blame Woods for your grade
I took him for the online 6w class. honestly not that hard. you have to do a discussion post every day which you google and isnt hard as long as you remember to do it. Theres 2 homework assignments and a paper. Everything for the homework is on Chegg so its not hard at all. The paper is kind of annoying but you also google everything. Pretty solid
Don't get me wrong, he really knows his stuff and goes in depth, but sometimes it can be a drag. This class is NOT an easy A unless you're really interested in space. Go to class, its a free 100pts! His practice exams aren't really helpful with studying. There are a lot of readings and videos to watch. He also curves tests but they're still hard.
Seriously do not take this class if you don't have to. I had no interest in space and the concepts were really hard for me to understand. Exams aren't awful but you definitely have to study a lot for them, he curves them but not by much. DO the extra credit project. He also never responds to emails which sucks.
You literally need to show up for attendance and to answer the Tophat questions. You don't even have to answer them right. Tests are all memorization, so looking at the review questions the night before guarantees an A. Show up to class though; I had an A average for the tests but a B overall because he never saw me after the first two weeks.
top hat questions that need to be answered while in class. If you get them wrong they do not count against your grade. test questions come straight from top hat. only downside is that he takes forever to email back.
Go to lecture and read the things he posts, you should be fine. Professor Woods knows A LOT about what he is teaching, but it can be hard to follow along if you skips some lectures or choose not to read what he puts online. Do the work, you should be pretty fine. Took for my gen-ed science course.
Really good teacher, whos passionate about his craft. His review sheets prepare you well for the tests, and if you look at it beforehand, you should be well set for his class. Easy A.
Professor Woods is a pretty good professor. Most of your work will consist of watching lectures, then answering small quizzes about them afterwards. He goes into a good amount of depth for the topics and his tests are not too difficult since he gives you questions to use during the exam. It's not as hard as people are saying, just study...
Graded on the cumulative grade of 8 easy quizzes. He puts up a quiz review and each question in the review correlates to the same numbered question on the actual quiz. Hard to fail.
There's just quizzes you do and lots of extra credit opportunities so make sure you take them! I had over a 100 at one point. He is so smart and knowledgable and genuinely made the class so interesting. I took it for my science gen ed and wouldn't reccommend any other class. Solid choice. 10/10.
Physics I was easily my favorite class this spring semester. It was asynchronous so we got to do work at our own pace. There were 6 total quizzes with weekly "extra credit" assignments. If you happen to take physics I with Prof Woods, know you are in good hands :)
Professor is nice but kind of boring. Definitely is very interested in what he teaches. The expectations for the class are very simple, there is no homework and you don't even need to go to lectures in person because he posts them online. There are 4 tests which are online, open book and follow directly from the study guide he provides.
Woods is a good teacher, kinda boring. Attendance isn't mandatory. He only grades you on 4 exams and that is it. He offers review questions on blackboard after every class, they are optional but if you do all of them, he'll take your average for those questions and replace your lowest test score. Tests are all online. Easy course overall.
Eric Woods is a great college professor. He is bright. Very understanding of student needs. Teaches without requiring student attendance, just a few (online) exams. 10/10 professor.
Fully exam based & everything is so straightforward and easy, his extra credit homeworks replace your lowest exam score in the end, hes such a sweet guy. 9/10
All 6 quizzes online - thats it.
Professor Woods is awesome. He is very passionate about what he teaches. The material, all of which is posted online, was very interesting, even if you aren't a physics major. The class is graded by 4 exams. There are optional extra credit review questions due each week which can replace your lowest exam grade. Overall, a very easy elective.
All 6 quizzes that your entire grade is based on are online and extra credit homework assignments are available to make up your lowest quiz grade. If this man ever needs a kidney I will gladly donate one, it was harder not to get an A than to receive one.
The easiest class you'll ever take. Three online tests determine your grade + a handful of HW assignments. Attendance isn't required, he makes the class easy and fun, and the content is interesting. Have fun getting the free A+
Eric Woods is definitely a great professor. He makes his class interesting during lectures. 4 online tests. The homework is optional but it's very easy and your average homework score can replace your lowest test grade so do them! Overall this is a very easy and interesting class so I would definitely recommend taking his course!
Only 4 tests that were all online. No mandatory homework. Lectures were kind of boring, but he is a very nice person. Easy grade.
I went to his class about 3 times and only graded on the best 4 of 4 tests and homework grade. If you do the tests and the homework it's a fairly simple class
Good professor. You do not have to attend class, He posts all the lectures, exams, and homework online. If you are in class, he tends to go over his time a little. You can tell he is very passionate about it. Sweet guy, but the work is physics so it's confusing. I wouldn't take it if it's not helpful for your major. I only took it for the GENED.
Very easy class, doesn't take attendance so you never have to go. Online exams r easy with the test prep he gives. The homework you need to rewatch the lectures. I don't learn anything from him in person but he is not boring, easier to skip his class and do it all online.
Easy A class I honestly never went just completed the homework and test which were online and partnered with classmates to complete them. Definitely have a groupme for the class and you'll be good. He also drops the lowest test out of 4 which is a big plus.
Professor Woods makes this physics class surprisingly easy and engaging. The online exams and optional homework allow for a flexible schedule, and unstuck study is a great study tool alongside the free course materials. An interesting elective that's worth taking.
All of his material was online and attendance didn't matter so I went to about half his classes but it was an easy A. I didn't find the lectures very helpful for the exams and I would just tend to use his review questions he posted right before the exams.
Professor Woods is a honestly good professor, his lectures are fun and he tries to get the class to interact and will ask questions. I will say it's a lot of information that he teaches, but if you pay attention it makes sense and is fun. All the test are online and he drops the lowest score. He also offers extra credit as well.
Good option for easy elective credit. Attendance is optional and all material is posted online so it's an easy A without showing up if you just review the slides before doing assignments. All assignments and exams are given online. If you're a morning person, showing up to the lectures isn't bad, he's a fun guy and makes them interesting. 10/10
an easy A. I went to his class once and never went again cause its low-key boring and his teaching skills sucks. only graded on 4 online exams, but he posts practice tests for them and they match up very well with the test. also has weekly optional mini quizzes that help boost your grade. drops lowest quiz grade with grade you got on mini quizzes
he explained the material clearly and was really good at breaking things down. if you didn't understand something, he was very patient and would go over it again in a way that made sense. really understanding and approachable, which made learning a lot less stressful.
Having to login every day to a class, where there is no criteria on what you are posting on, very little feedback. class isn't teaching me anything. Grading 50% for posting every day, and it's 50% of your grade is absurd, you can't work full time and do this class. Little to no, online structure and entitled approach to discussions being submitted
The online course is hard. You're expected to post to the discussions everyday but there's no specific questions, so everyone is talking about anything honestly. It's a ton of reading and YouTube videos but we're expected to talk about??? And it's worth 50% of your grade??
Most boring lecture I've had so far, learn next to nothing in them, extremely easy class with 2-3 quizzes with 2-5 questions each, 4 exams, drops lowest one. If you don't care about being bored out of your mind for the easiest grade of your life, this class is definitely for you.
