Very nice, energetic, clearly explains example problems step by step, that will prepare you for tests and homework. Textbook isn't used outside your own studying, recommended to skip it and buy the code for online homework that comes in the textbook. Young and attended the university, so knows what students need to know. Can't recommend enough.
She was great, best teacher I've had so far. Erika made practice sheets and solution sheets that went through each problem before each test. The course was tough but she was the best part about it.
Fantastic instructor. I struggled through the source material, but I know without her I would have failed it. Excellent clarity, SPEAKS ENGLISH, always clears up points of confusion if you ask. Of all the calc 2 profs available, I would pick her.
Erica Farelli is easily the best professor I've had at UMass. She is so helpful and always wants her students to succeed. Her teaching helped me get an A for the semester. TAKE HER CLASS!
I loved Erica. Her lectures were easy to follow and understand. Random attendance quizzes so go to class (easy 100 quiz grade). Weekly homework wasn't too hard. She is basically available at all times to help you. Definitely recommend her for Calc 2.
Theres really no way to make math fun or interesting but she is pretty clear in explaining everything and she's also really nice and approachable.
Great professor, she shows every little step on every problem. Tells you what will be on the tests the day before.
Erica is the best I've had this far and really helped me personally so much to adjust to college. She'll take time out of her day to help a student and will take time out of her day to say hi to old students. She teaches the material so well with examples and practice. She couldn't be any better. If you don't take your calc 2 class with her...
Very, very helpful. 100% recommend her for calc 2, I don't know how anyone with iffy math skills would do without her. She goes through problems step by step in lecture, and always stops to answer questions.
def recommend!
I never even opened the textbook once during class, that's how good she is. She goes step by step on every problem, explaining every little detail, and she truly cares about her students. She gives you hints on the exams, and, if you attend her lectures, it's a guaranteed A. Just be sure to show up for class - she doesn't put slides online.
She's incredible!! I hate math, but she almost makes it enjoyable… and I had a 9 a.m. so that's saying something. She goes at the perfect pace, always makes sure everyone's on the same page, and is truly passionate about what she does and her students. I never took pre-calc in high school, and managed to get an A in her class b/c of her! Def take!
shes incredible.
Calc III. Really awesome, young professor. She taught exactly what you needed to know, was excellent for difficult explanations. Wish she taught DIFFY-Q
She is really a great professor. She makes things simple, she is young and intelligent. I recommend taking a class with her. I took Math 104 first semester and I plan to take Calc 127 with her second semester!
If I had had her for a teacher in high school, I would have never had problems with math. I failed pre-calculus in high school but am walking away with an A. She's the best math teacher I've ever had.
Erica is super nice & chill. She gives great notes & goes at a steady pace. She's young, intelligent and has a sense of humor too. 1st exam was the exact same as the review sheet and the 2nd was the same as the review sheet just using different numbers. Final was easy and in highschool, I found pre-calc to be really hard. Given about a month for HW
Extremely easy class and awesome professor. Attendance isn't mandatory, but helpful to learn new concepts. Rarely use the book and the HW is no problem. She honestly cares about her students and takes any extra time to explain something you need. There is no better math professor on planet earth!
I love Erica. She explains things very well and knows how to teach math to students who have struggled with it in the past. Exams are extremely fair- definitely do the review sheets! Do all homeworks. She's great about taking questions mid lecture and is helpful at office hours. Also she has a great personality- class goes by quickly
Erica's review session basically tells you what's on the exam. People from other professors' classes ended up coming as well.
She is honestly the most incredible professor you could have. No one else can explain material with the ease and clarity that she does. She gives so many examples and tells you exactly what to study for the test. Even if math is not your strongest subject she will give you the knowledge you need to get an A. only down side is no one can live up!!
She is very nice, but her curriculum sets her students up to fail. 80% of your grade is focused into 3 exams, 2 midterms and a final The midterms are worth 25% of the grade and have 25 questions, meaning that each question is 1% of your final grade. Absolutely no room for error before you're struggling to win through with a B-
Erica is a great teacher. She does examples in class that are helpful for homework. She goes really slow and shows each step clearly. She doesn't tell you what's on the exam, but her reviews are helpful. She answers questions that students bring from review sheets or old exams with clear explanations. Definitely take her if you can.
A really great professor. Examples in class are clear and she's always willing to answer questions. Side note: textbook is basically useless, don't waste your money. Occasional inconsistencies between tests/material in class because she doesn't write them, the department head does for some reason.
Erica is amazing. If you're going to take any type of calc class, take it with her! Homework is relatively light and going to class will help you so much! She is great at explaining even the toughest concept and is always willing to help you! So friendly and really great overall.
Erica Farelli is easily the best math teacher I've ever had. She makes Calc 2 so simple and straightforward, she clearly cares about her students doing well, she's kind, she's smart, she understands what parts of the material are difficult and goes over them well, and just...she's just a great teacher, I highly recommend taking her class.
Basically everything you could possibly want from a calc teacher.
Shes really sweet and nice. The exam structures are very unforgiving, leaving little to no room for error. Homework is 20% so make sure you do all that. Boring topic but Erica makes it bearable.
This is a tough class, but she was absolutely the best math teacher I've ever had. Her examples are clear and she makes sure people understand before moving on. She's very nice and approachable. She is willing to work with you if you need help. The class is alot of work, but she makes it the best that a calculus class can be. Take her if you can!
She is awesome. Very straight forward. Makes the class easy and fun.
She exclusively uses a document camera and projector. It's a pretty good setup, easy to see. She teaches through many many many examples. She answers any questions you have (even the stupid ones) in a very understandable and respectful way.
If you can, take this class online! so much easier! she's such a great teacher, very understanding. Complete all the wiley assignments. All tests are online except the final which can be taken at any testing site in your area. Take this class with her!
Best math teacher I've ever had. Plenty of examples. Funny even in the morning. Asks for questions frequently. Down to earth and makes learning math painless and less daunting. All the homeworks are due online by the exam date, so you can do it at your own pace. Take notes and go to lecture!
Erica is the best teacher for this class. She is always helpful and answers questions in class and after class, and is down to earth and fun to talk to.
Very clear professor. Calc 2 is generally not an easy subject, but she walks through the material step-by-step to make sure the concepts come across. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go, you're really gonna struggle with the exams. Only complaint I've ever heard is that her class isn't very interactive, but I'd still recommend it.
She's cool, very young and hip. She's very nice in lecture but when i want to her office hours she was kind of rude. Her lectures are clear and concise and she provides examples for everything she does and explains! don't get behind on homework, shell give like 11 assignments and have them all do on the same day as the exam!
I hate math, so naturally I was dreading having to take it as a gen Ed. But Prof. Farelli was a great teacher, went slowly through lectures and made sure you understand everything. Easy class if you go to the lectures.
Erica's lectures are very clear on what she wants. Homework assignments are much tougher than the exams. She prepares you well for the exams because she's the one who writes the exams for the whole department.
Erica is the best professor's I've ever had. A lot of people think clac 2 is tough, but she explains everything so well and makes it easier. Test are pretty similar to practice and examples but there are 1or 2 weird questions thrown in,but its a math class so thats bound to happen. 2 Webassigns due every sunday.
Erica was a joy to have had as a professor. She explains the material clearly, is extremely approachable, and is charmingly awkward sometimes. Makes math painless.
Erica is a wonderful professor and really good at clarification. However she isn't the course head (Thurlow Cook) so she doesn't have the full insider on what's going to be on the test she doesn't make the exams. There were times when she would teach us last minute subjects that were gonna be on the exam. Also, attendance is important but optional
Best math teacher I had at UMass period
I took her course online, so I can only comment on her clarity - which is immaculate. Though I have done the course content before, I dont have credit for it. Yet, her lectures add a dimension of understanding to what I had learnt in the past.
I cannot stress my appreciation of and respect for this professor. She presents the ins and outs of level II calculus with crystal clear clarity and ease by walking the students through every kind of problem step by step. If you take notes in lecture, do the homework, and practice often for tests, you will get a solid grade easily.
Not many tests. Textbook is for homework which there is about 2 -3 times a week. Tests have practice sheets and extra problems online that are optional. Teaches through example problems. She saved my semester - I'm awful at math and I got an A.
I love her as a teacher but she is not the course director so the tests are much hare than class :? little difficult
DEFINITELY TAKE ANY OF ERICA FARELLI'S CLASSES. She never confuses and overcomplicates things, she's also super young so she's not an old worn out professor that rambles on about things. Just a great teacher all around, highly recommend.
Erica is a great teacher! She does a lot of examples in class which really helps in understanding the material, and she goes at a good pace which isn't too fast for people who aren't that great with math. I would definitely recommend taking her class if you're not a math person.
Put things on tests and homework that she never taught in lectures which isn't good because there are only 3 tests and they count for 85% of your grade. Did every homework and got an A on them but that wasn't enough to get a good grade.
Erica was the best math professor I have ever had. She teaches using only examples and makes her own tests so therefore if you go to lecture and take notes, it's difficult to do bad on her tests. She does not give notes out under any circumstances but it is not difficult to obtain them if you miss a lecture or 2. Would highly recommend her classes.
Erica is a great lecturer, goes at a good pace and explains the material well. However, even though she writes the exams - they are extremely difficult. Unfortunately, outside of class she is not helpful at all. She doesn't provide notes on Moodle or any help in office hours. And all but one of the TAs were really underperforming. Glad its over.
Erica is a great teacher and very helpful! Make sure you go to class because she will not give you the notes if you miss a lecture. Awesome teacher but class is a little difficult, pay attention and you will do fine!
Erica really cares about her students and she definitely wants you to succeed. I would highly recommend Erica to anyone who is nervous about taking a math class because she is very clear when she teaches and is willing to answer any questions.
Erica is hands down the best professor I've ever had, she goes slow and is great at explaining everything along the way, making it almost impossible to become lost. She's actually cares for her students, and is super friendly and charming. However the exams can be somewhat difficult at times, but she writes them so she can best prepare you for it.
Best math professor I've met in college so far
Tests are straightforward. Farelli is the head instructor, so she makes the tests. So, she makes sure that you learn the material that are on the tests. Practice class problems and do the Webassign homework and you will get an A. Lectures can be boring though.
Erica is the best math professor I've ever had. She explains everything so clearly and is so helpful during office hours and reassures you that you will do fine on the difficult exams. She is so sweet and so easy to talk to. Calc 2 is a difficult class, and she manages to make it fun and easy to understand! Do the homework, it's an easy 20 points!
Erica is a very clear lecturer and encourages you to ask questions if you are confused. I recommend going to class because her notes are great to study from. Would highly recommend. (She also responds to emails fast which is a bonus.)
Teaches multiple methods for each subject she covers, goes at a good pace. Book is only needed for a few homework assignments so not everyone needs it. There are three group projects and though they don't really help with what you just learned, they're pretty easy and can help your grade. Erica is by far my favorite math professor and is accessible
The best math teacher I have ever had! She explains materials very clearly by repeating a lot and going over every single step of a problem in incredible detail. It's oblivious she's a favorite because her 128 lecture is the only one not empty by the end of the semester.
Erica is hands-down the best Math teacher I have ever had. I've always struggled a lot with Math, but her lectures were so easy to understand that even I could follow them! Plus, her notes are amazing for studying later.
Speaks very fast and sounds robotic most of the time. The way to pass this class is to go to math night and get help from tutors
She's a great math lecturer and makes everything easy to follow however her tests are beyond unreasonable. The tests are worth 80% of your grade and each test question is based off the hardest lecture example for that section. There is no partial credit and tests are only an hour and a half. Take 132 where you can get partial credit.
Erica writes the exams for Math132 so she makes sure you learn everything needed for the exam. Explains everything thoroughly. Make sure to go to class so you can get the notes. She does post the notes online but without the work that you do in class. Highly recommend her for calc. Best professor I've ever had.
Erica is a solid math professor; clear lectures and expectations. Lectures can be a bit dry but they are always worth going to. If you have a high math ability, you may sometime feel she moves a little too slowly but she moves at a good pace for most people. I recommend taking calc with her!
Erica is a super nice and organized professor and will make Math 233 a breeze for you. She gives you the option to print out lecture notes (not filled in completely) so that you don't have to struggle as much with notes if you're not a good note taker. You get what you put into her class, do the homework, take notes in class, and you'll be good
Professor Farelli was the best math professor I have had. Her explanations of complicated concepts were excellent and she always ensured that the entire class was prepared. She also writes the Calc 132 tests so she always had her classes prepared well for the tests. Overall she was excellent.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had at UMass so far. Just make sure you go to EVERY SINGLE LECTURE and finish the homework BY YOURSELF. I'm sure you'll be fine in this class because she explained everything so well there's nothing on the exam that are not covered in class.
She's very clear in her lectures and very approachable
Erica is one of the best math professors Ive had in my life. She is extremely thorough and makes sure you understand whats going on. Shes so easy to talk to which makes asking questions easy.
If you need to take Calc132 I highly recommend her. All the examples she provides in class are similar to the ones on the exam. She's very clear on what she wants you to know on the exam and there are usually no surprises on exam. If you're struggling then go to class and copy down her examples. She's also the Calc132 head btw.
Great personality, great at explaining concepts. Super easy going. You have to go to class in order to get the notes - they're not posted. However I missed class and emailed her, and she printed out what I missed and gave it to me during her office hours. Only real downfall is that she isn't the greatest at responding to emails.
I have taken 5 math classes at UMass, starting from Math 101 (yea not a star math student). Erica is by far the best teacher I have had. She posts blank note sheets online, and you can print and fill them out in class which makes it easy to follow. She clears up points of confusion, and the tests are very fair. Definitely take her class.
I thought at first that she was a great lecturer. However, By the final exam I realized that she always selected "nice" examples that work out perfectly in rare situations. Her tests are the opposite. They're usually trick questions or bizarre scenarios you would not expect to see on a test. She is clear, but not consistent. A lazy way to lecture.
I really enjoyed Professor Farelli's class. She was extremely clear while teaching new concepts, and did lots of examples to make sure everyone understood what we're working on. Both in and out of class, she is very nice and willing to help anyone out who is struggling. Office hours are a great resource, and exams are okay if you get the concepts.
She has the ability to simply really complex material, and she cares more about your understanding of concepts that you memorizing endless theorems. She assumes you know nothing about calculus and does every possible step out, and she answers any and every question, so if you put in the effort, it's impossible to fail with her.
Math128 is just a hard corse in general but Erica is a great teacher. She teaches to the homework which makes doing it pretty easy but the notes that she does in class are all examples and she didn't really teach how to do anything. Exams are kinda tough because they're all application and if you do bad on one that's basically your grade.
Absolutely fantastic! She explains the material very clearly and is extremely patient. Best math professor I've ever had.
Erica is the best choice for Calc 2. She is the course chair and also writes the exams. She will tell you certain material she will not put on the exam and stuff she may put on, but her examples she provides in class should be sufficient to do well on the exam! She is patient and willing to explain anything, even if it puts her a little behind.
Very good for a hard class. Constantly repeats herself and tries to be as clear as possible. Highly recommend!
She is incredibly helpful in office hours, and had very clear lectures. All the notes are online and if you print them before class then you will be able to follow along easily. She is excellent and really cares, and is willing to help if you are struggling.
Erica is so good and explains all the problems thoroughly. She never skips steps and makes sure that everyone in the class can follow along to her lectures. 10/10 recommend.
Great professor, very clear but goes very fast sometimes and lectures can sometimes feel like forever. Don't let this be an excuse for you not to take her class. The multiple choice exams can be annoying especially if you make silly mistakes because they greatly impact your grade.
Erica is simply the best. You don't have to be a math wizard to succeed in her class. She explains everything from the bottom up and repeats key concepts. She obviously cares a lot about her students and it shows. Seriously, take Calc 2 with her. Exam averages are always the best in Erica's sections.
Probably one of the best teachers I have had at Umass so far. Even though the course material is challenging, Erica presents it in understandable terms. If you have not previously taken calc 2, make sure to go to lectures because you won't pass if you skip too many classes. Tests are difficult and are graded pretty harshly.
Go to class, do the homework and you've got a good shot at doing well with Erica as your professor. She goes through plenty of examples in class and is always willing to clarify something. Also, she really understands that this is everyone's first time learning the material and takes great care in making sure everyone is able to follow along.
It's been a couple semesters since I took this class, and every other math professor teaches wayyyy worse than her. When she asks a question, she won't wait awkwardly until someone speaks up, she just moves on ahead. Gold-standard of calc professors.
Took calc2 with her when I was a freshman and now I'm a junior. Over the years whenever my friends talk about how great their prof is I'd always ask, are they as good as Erica Farelli? And the answer is almost always no. If you are in her class, cherish it. It might be the best class you'll take at UMass.
I had her during the summer and even then, she was an amazing professor! She responds extremely quickly to posts on the discussion board, and has very clear and concise lectures. Make sure to do the homework because it will help you practice. The Midterm and Final count for a large portion of your grade, so study for them as much as possible.
