What a bad teacher to have!! She is not into creative writings what-so-ever! Plus, she's sort of a feminist!
This english professor needs to get out of SRU, she is the reason SRU has trained animals for students, if you don't do what she wants to the very T you will be certain to be crucified.
You have to hate men to get an A. This professor is a fat butch man hating ****.
This is a great prof. I tell every one to take her. She does have her views and likes to hear them but other than that she encourages you to work and takes an interest in her students and their work.
A caring professor who appears intimidating on the surface but take the time to get to know her. Good variety of readings and assignments to learn by.
Erica is one of the best professors I've had at SRU! She's so helpful! I felt completely comfortable asking her for help and she was always will to help out. As long as you come to class, do the best work you can, and turn it in on time, you'll be fine.

A good teacher who cares about students. If you do the work and try your best, then you will do well. She is fair to everyone.
A great teacher. Very nice and very helpful. I like that you could work on your writing to make it better.
Erica Scott was very helpful when i had her. Some people don't like her becuase she doesn't take anyones crap! If you do your work, which isn't hard at all, the class is a breeze. She is also willing to meet during her office hours.
You don't really have to read the short stories. Also, note how she doesn't care about your opinions. Her biases=the world's truth.
Is way too biased to other peoples beliefs and strategies.
She tried to get us to think about things, rather than just accept whatever was given us. SHe let us rewrite our papers and would work with you outside of class. A good teacher.
She was a very easy professor! Was a great class and very interesting!
Ok. Well, we did nothing all semester except a paper, which is the final, and read the book. Did not learn a thing, but if you give her what she wants to hear, you'll be OK.
she was terrible; seems to hate students
so incredibly easy. she's a nice person and is very fair. i think she is a great professor. one of the best in the english dept
She's a good teacher, but tough - in personality and on grading. Be prepared to work for your A. Always willing to talk to you about your grades and how you can improve papers.
She's so awesome! She is very willing to help any student, in or out of class and has a great sense of humor! But don't take her unless you're willing to work for your A.
She is a great teacher! Her class is so much fun and worth taking! However you are going to have to work for your grade and don't skip more than 2 classes or your grade goes down.
I never hated Shakespeare once throughout the entire semester, which is amazing seeing as you read one play a week, which really isn't that bad. The class is both etertaining and funny (plus you'll learn a few things about comma usage too).
lousy teacher in every way.
Seems like a nice lady but I would not take her again for anything. The class wasn't totally boring like I thought it was going to be, but she follows the same routine every week (film, journals, discussion). If she offers to help, take it even if you do not want to go and talk with her.
very helpful if you want it. you will have to work hard for your A but it is achievable. pretty interesting.
She is very willing to help you if you ask her for it! Her class isn't hard, you just have to do your work, which isn't much. she gives you chances to rewrite your papers.

I thought the class was very nice. She uses real life examples and makes sure we can somewhat relate our lives to the lives of these women. It makes it more interesting.
The class is very boring. She doesn't let us really express oursleves. She tends to get on a soapbox and chat away. She's very easy though and if you can stand all that, I'd take her. Another thing, she takes English VERY seriously so make sure that your papers are MLA CORRECT!
Scott is by far one of the best teachers here. She is kinda strict on the papers, but she can help anybody out at any time. As long as you do everything that she tells you, you will get an A
do not take her for college writing2. you have to go to all of her classes even tho you learn nothin, plus depending on what you get on the final paper is your grade, one paper=60% of your grade, i had a B all semester and ended up with a D on the paper and now i have to take cwII again
she is by far the most useless teacher i have ever had in my life - i took an english class, not a political science class - i really would like to know why this teacher is still employed
i like her, she seems cool... except for the midterm and 15 page paper for the final... we'll see
Dr. Scott is by far the worst teacher. First, she has this insance stutter where you can not understand a word she says, then she spends 5 weeks on the first paper but assigns the class a HUGE MLA works cited assignment and we had to look up and type 80 different examples of the types of works. I strongly urge to swtich teachers if you have her!
Dr Scott was a wonderful teacher. She was always willing 2 help students. She graded fairly easy. I am not a wonderful writer yet i still got an A in the class. She doesnt make u write many papers& none of them have 2 b terribly long.i would recommend taking her. as for the other ppl who didnt like her..they must just b idiots & couldnt get an A
Easy grader. Pay attention and read and you will definately passed. Classes were actually entertaining.
I really enjoyed her in this class because Women's Studies is her forte, but Im not sure I would like having her for another class. Really strict about the annotated bibs we had to do for midterm.
DO NOT take this lady, shes horrible. Our final paper was 60% of the grade, and I had a B the entire sem. and then out of no where she gave me a D on that paper. These other people who rated her our idiots. She picks favorites and grades unfairly. DO NOT TAKE HER
Dr. Scott is very enthusiastic. She's by far the best lit teacher because she keeps it interesting. The class is not too bad. No tests. A journal every week but those are easy. She grades the midterm easy. The only bad part is the 15 page final but she gives you a ton of notice so you have plenty of time to do it. Definitely recommend her!!
you can learn a lot! she is very fair to anybody, helpful, easy to understand, and considerate. as she respects anybody's opinion, you don't have to be worried or shy in class. she's very good at involving students. she's great!
very fair to everybody. pay attention to the rules of mla and do all the reading & writing assignments. use critical theories to support your opinions, then you should get A.
Tough, but I'd recommend her to a major. She gives you a lot of warning about the work and when it's due, explains what she wants, and is available for office visits. Only need the HUGE book for the introductions, since Shakespeare's work is public domain. Don't let her scare you and she'll like you just fine.
I love this woman and her classes. She's really intelligent and encourages upper-level work and research...it might seem like hell during the process, but you really come away knowing a lot.
If you have no background in paper writing you are SCREWED! She is funny and is very nice but tends to ramble however aside from the fact that your grade depends on attendence the lecture is 100% useless. But on the flipside you only do 2 actual writing assingments and a photodocumentary, so as long as you know what your doing you'll be fine.
waste of my life. if you are ready to write boring papers, then this class is for you. don't over-work yourself because odds are that she's not collecting that 6 pages of pre-writing that you did. don't even bother. but its not so bad. read the book.if you have her for honors you'll be fine. i ended up with a B in honors even though i dislike her.
Very helpful. Will spend a lot of time to make sure that your writing improves. Sometimes the assignments are confusing, but overall the class is helpful. Assigns reading from textbook and will randomly quiz on the material.
I had Scott for Lit of the Women's Movement, and I loved the class. She's funny, caring, and clearly cares about the material. Was an easy grader for the class (which was an upper level ENGL class). I'd recommend her to anyone.
English 102-53. Gives you a million instructions at once. Has no care to the other work that you have to do. Assigns a three page paper and you have one day to do it. One of the hardest classes i have ever taken. I am still no better at writing. your schedule revolves around her class and is very unhelpful. Do not take this class.
She is not consistent and is not very helpful. She knows what she wants on her papers, yet does not help her students reach to full potential. If you're stuck taking one of her classes, I recommend that you meet with her one on one... though it may not make a difference.
A lot of people didn't like Dr. Scott as a professor in my class. They said that she assigned too much with not enough time. However, I wrote all my papers last minute and got decent grades the first time. AND, she gives you back your paper to redo as many times as you need to to get an A! I recommend her because you learn a lot and it's easy!
If you want to learn to write an essay pick this prof. She'll make sure you're writing it correctly. It's going to seem like an overload of work, and you may not particularly like the essay topics, but it'll really help your writing. She's helpful too if you actually go talk to her.
this class was tedious! she made us do the same things over and over and over again! Basically she wants you to write just like the example papers. In the end i did well but it was just super annoying.
Class is boring; she reads word by word from book and tells us how stupid we are. Best advice: This woman tries to intimidate you, just try your best and listen to her and you should do fine.
Class asaverage in terms of easiness, etc. The professor herself was problematic however. She was rude and innapropriatley sarcastic all the time. She spoke to everybody like they were stupid and she made a habit of justot showing up to class without giving us a notice. This happened at least 8 times but probably more.
Horrible class. Gets off subject, goes on tangents, seems to outwardly try to offend students by bringing up sensitive subjects and saying insensitive things. Keep your political opinions to yourself. This seems to be the overall opinion of most of my class.
If you take this class online, DO NOT have her as your teacher. She is mean and constantly slams the class in her updates. The questions for the papers are not even questions. It is a very hard and very confusing class if she is teaching it. One of the worst and most rude professor I have had to date.
Terrible professor, class sessions had no clear purpose, articles assigned were often 30+ pages and written for grad students. 10 weeks into class and no grades given yet. We very rarely talk about composition or rhetoric, only feminism and Donald Trump and other stupid things
Awful professor. Never comes in with a planned curriculum and rambles on for 75 minutes about food or her nephew. Very unclear with directions and reads through things very fast. When she read my essay in front of me, she completely messed up some of the sentences. She is an very hard grader, but you get the chance to re-do. Wouldn't take again.
Dr. Scott gets off topic very fast, and her directions are never clear. She changes assignment guidelines very often, so you're further ahead to do everything last minute. She posts readings everyday and gives random quizzes on them also. The readings have nothing to do with her lectures, which aren't clear to begin with. I learned nothing.
gives ridiculous long articles to read but you never go over them. Thought it was going to be an easy class at first. Then got hard in the middle. She is a very tough grader on papers and has to have things done her way. Had to work hard to earn A. Will never take one of her classes ever again.
Very knowledgeable professor, fun class, very educational. She speaks very quickly and can be hard to understand. Class is very easy, if you read the assigned readings, show up to class and do the projects. Nice lady, good to talk to outside of class. Very funny, has a lot of cool stories, her lectures are fun to listen to. Very easy-going.
Love Dr. Scott! Tough but helps in any way she can. Likes people who participate. Gives many opportunities to revise papers and get a better grade. Sometimes she rambles on about things, so it can be hard to keep your attention. May seem kind of mean at first, but definitely warms up to you later.
I tried very hard in this class and I know that a lot of other students did too, but it seems like whatever we did was never good enough because she didn't write it herself. This was the toughest class and the directions were hard to follow as well. I ended up with a C, even after taking my papers to the writing center. I was in class everyday too
I took Dr. Scott for Critical Reading and it was absolutely nothing like a critical reading class. We focused more on gender studies than anything. Had us make a YouTube video as a project? I do not recommend taking her for Critical Reading.
Avoid taking this professor. She will give very little instructions on assignments and grade strictly. Her lectures are completely off topic and serve to teach absolutely nothing. The only subject studied in class is gender studies.
Complete waste of a class. Went everyday, did all of the assignments, and because I got a B on a paper there weren't enough points in the class to bring it up to a A even though I got all the other points possible. There were only 160 points for the semester I took it.
She assigns homework and papers without explaining thoroughly. One paper is due next week but she'll assign things for next month without explaining current assignments. Continually put down my class for bad grades but didn't change her methods or explain things any better. Asked for help and she only repeated the few things she told the class.
Gives a lot of papers without specific guidelines. Talks very fast and stutters, very hard to understand. will call you out in front of the class.
Dr. Scott teaches a class that is not designed to make you a better writer. But a better Dr. Scott. Honestly, do not try to be creative in this class. Only write exactly what she wants to see and you will receive a mediocre grade at best.
Dr. Scott taught me a lot about writing papers. Go to her office hours if youre ever unclear about an assignment , because she can be vague when discussing it in class. You have to put in work if you want the A. Schedule a conference with her, go to the writing center, and do peer review. She didnt require a textbook but had us print out a lot
Youll be able to tell her life story before you will learn how to become a better reader/writer. Waste of time. She gives an assignment due in 2 weeks but will talk about the final project more that is due in 2 months. Just avoid her class, thats all.
Dr. Scott is a very nice person and a very easy grader. The only thing you have to do to get an A in this class is turn in decent papers and show up to class. The only real issue I had is that the structure of the class could have been better. Overall though, I would take her again as she is very smart and helps improve your writings.
I'm very disappointed with this class. I expected a reading class that would teach me what a typical English professor would teach, but instead, it has turned into a Gender Studies class discussing gender stereotypes and how men and women are treated in society. The classwork is absolutely NOTHING like what is described on the SRU class overview.
Dr. Scott is not a good professor. Even though attendance was mandatory, we learned absolutely nothing valuable and she repeated the same things every lecture. She can be very rude to students when she was the one who caused the issue. I do not recommend taking her courses.
Erica Scott is oftentimes a misunderstood professor and person but appeal to feminism and to social justice for a win. Yes she may be repetitive but she cares. You have to make the effort but she will respond to you.
Love her as a person, but not as a professor. This is supposed to be a critical reading course, not a feminist course. Make sure you do not write about anything that might conflict with that set of ideas! She repeats the same thing many times. Class is mandatory. I'm surprised SRU hasn't updated to make this a critical reading course.
I liked her, but this is supposed to be a critical reading class, not a feminist class. That is ALL we ever talked about. The class itself was very easy but having to sit there and listen to her go on and on about gender rights and being a girl was annoying considering I didn't sign up for that kind of class.
took her class online and gives feedback and instructions passive aggressively; I never thought this was even possible. Always wants it done her way, but never clarifies why you missed points on an assignment. Feedback is either unclear or literally just incorrect. Do not take any class taught by her
not fun.
This isn't a very fun class to take to be honest. Heavily focused on gender socialization, feminism, racism, classism, and white privilege. While these are important topics, reading hundreds of articles and writing over 30 papers about this material in 15-day span is grueling and redundant. I recommend getting it out fo the way in Summer or Winter.
Dr. Scott's classes are heavily based on gender. feminism, and social issues. (Even though this is supposed to be critical reading) Participate in class and answer questions based on the readings. She grades tough so go to her OFFICE HOURS if you need clarity, this saved me. Makes a good impression as a student and she will actually help you!
I did not care for the professor because in my opinon we were off topic a lot, we didn't use all of the time so sometimes we ended up talking about different things, she also tends to be, in my opinon, too personal. I unserstand that tieing personal life in here and there is okay but all the time and you end up loosing the purpose of the course.
I would never take this professor again. Shes really tough with the criteria of grading.
Online all semester with no meetings unless you schedule on with her 1on1. Toughest grader and class is solely based on 4 papers and discussions. Would not recommend.
Very unclear. Never had an actual class. Received bad grades based off not setting up optional meetings with her. Grades too personally and want it done her way. DO NOT TAKE A COURSE WITH THIS PROFESSOR. Critical reading class was all about feminism and social media every week.
Terrible class. Instructions were always unclear and left everyone confused. Never had an actual class unless you scheduled a 1 on 1 meeting with her and those still didnt help. You had to teach yourself how to do the project just to fail it because it wasnt done her way. If you have the option, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!
No. Just no on this professor. If you have a choice between professors.... DO NOT CHOOSE DR. SCOTT. I have NEVER met a tougher grader in my life, and she grades on her PREFERENCE. It could be grammatically correct but if it is not how SHE would write it.... it is wrong. Don't get me wrong, she emails back very quickly but that is about it.
DO NOT TAKE HER. she is so unclear on absolutely everything. will help you out and still fail you. she grades on her terms and nothing else.
She is a very good professor contrary of the other reviews. Her critical reading class was easy as long as you put effort into your work. This was the least stressful class I had. I liked how the class was set up asynchronously. She answered emails within a few minutes. She was very nice. Her projects were broad which made them easier. Recommended.
For one paper, I got an F for citing my sources wrong. I had a meeting with her where she showed me how to correct them and gave me until the end of the semester (a month away) to correct my paper. Her class is easy as long as you do the discussions (which dont take more than 30 minutes) and meet with her when she recommends it.
