Professor Vogel rocks the house! She makes cultural anthropology a lot of fun, she encourages participation and her lectures are never too long. She cares about her students and making sure that they understand the concepts. She is also very patient. Not too much homework. Typically shortish articles with reading q's. 2 essays. class was great.
She's extremely helpful and understanding. Put effort into her class and she'll put effort in helping you. Her class is super straight-forward and its congruent with current events. Very fun class. I thoroughly enjoyed it and actually wanted to go. Highly recommend taking it.
She's so nice, easy-going, and understands students. This class is easy and interesting. You can tell she loves anthropology and all its aspects. I never had an interest in anthro and still kinda don't. but I would take this class again to have her in my life. Easy A. Best kind of professor there is
Lots of extra credit opportunity. Literally brought my grade up to an A+ when I was at a B-. Just do every single assignment. Super easy points. Test's aren't to bad. She is super nice and if you go to her for help she will do whatever she can to boost your grade.
I love Erica! She is so into everything she teaches about. All the assignments are super easy they just take a bit of time. She is all about helping the students and is ALWAYS there for anyone who asks. She gives lots of EC opportunities and the tests are exactly the study guides. I still talk to her every once in a while and still asks how Im doin
Amazing! She is amazing. She is always there for you and she gives the best classes ever. She is always willing to help.
Professor Vogel is a really good teacher, she offers extra credit, she comes from an understanding point and is really good with working with her students. Her class is really interesting and there is homework but we discuss it in class and a lot of the assigned readings are on the final. I would take her class.
Ever had a class where the book ends up teaching you more than your professor ever did? This is not that class. Erica is the nicest most enthusiastic professor I've ever met. You can tell she cares about the subject and her students. Her extra credit opportunities go beyond extra questions on tests and reading responses were almost too easy.
She's one of the nicest people you'll probably ever meet. That being said, she's also a great professor. There is a good amount of work in this class, so keeping up to date is essential to passing. The only thing I might change is the group project at the end of the course. That was a little rough depending on who's in your group.
SHE'S THE BEST! Best professor I have had. I would take another class by her. Show up and pay attention and you'll pass. She also gives out extra credit options so use them! She has a great attitude and you can really tell that she loves what she does. I actually looked forward to going to class.
Erica is nice. Homework intensive. Sometimes 2 papers/week. Disappointed the Global Issues class sole focus was immigration issues & NOT "global issues". Students panned textbook "Exiled Home" as uninspiring & unrewarding, but Erica insisted on using it at risk of students' declining interest and boredom. Would drop if I could due to textbook.
Prof. Vogel truly loves her job and this shows in her lectures. She is a fantastic professor who wants her students to succeed. Grades fairly and gives multiple super easy opportunities for extra credit. If you show up and pay attention you should get an A. She will always be willing to help in and outside of class. All in all a fantastic class!
Dr. Vogel is an awesome professor & you can tell that she's passionate about what she teaches. Her lectures are fun, interesting, & well-organized. There are 3 assignments (one is a zoo trip!) & 3 tests which are not cumulative. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities to help your grade. Overall easy & interesting class, would recommend! :)
Class is NOT for slackers. Midterm and Final are tough, she grades harshly on written portions. Not an easy A. Attainable if you are willing and able to work for it. Good luck
She is such an incredible teacher. Even though I had no interest in anthro before, I wanted to minor in anthro after her class. Yes, her midterm and final is a little tough because sometimes I felt more than 1 answer was applicable on the multiple choice. But if you study enough, you'll be fine. I got a B on both, but an A overall.
I went from failing Anthropology with different professor in the Fall 2016 to Spring 2017 passing this class with an A not because she is an easy A. She is an amazing professor her lectures and assignment is organized. She also provide extra credit assignments to raise your grade up. Her test is hard remember to study hard to pass the exam.
Great class. I loved that she did video lectures. Made it easy to want to learn and retain course info.
She is great professor, but sometimes I don't think she is great professor. Tests are tough. It is based on quizzes and book, but book part is hard even book part questions' score higher than quizzes questions score. Written question? if you have no enough time, you will not take those high point of written question because test time is short...
This professor is one of my favorites at Saddleback. I learned a lot and the energy kept me motivated. Easy class if you keep up with your work, a lot of reading but you learn a lot.
Professor Vogel was the first teacher I ever took an online class with and she made her directions and navigating the course easy to understand! She really did seem interested in Anthropology and I enjoyed her video lectures. I always emailed her questions about the course and she always replied promptly and was very helpful.
Professor Vogel is awesome! She makes the class very interesting with her lectures. Majority of your grade is discussion boards, so be sure that you're willing to actively participate before you take this class. Quiz questions are basically just content from the textbook worded differently, so you'll definitely have to get the book.
Professor Vogel is the bees knees. Honestly, most entertaining class I have taken by far. She's helpful, kind, and funny. I learned a lot in this class. The readings are actually pretty interesting, but you have to keep up with them or you won't do well. Super solid class. Love her to bits!
I loved her class she gives you great feed back I took her 8 week online class and it was pretty easy you have to put in the work for the grade you want. I wish I could of taken her class in person. At the end of the semester you have to write a paper about rituals/religion which was an interesting paper I've ever written about. Take her.
Pretty easy class & she's nice! The only thing I think is challenging is the weekly discussion boards since they require effort and detail, so time management is key. Quizzes are easy and the midterm/final exam are similar to the quizzes except they have short answer questions based on readings. Also you have a final paper based on rituals
I only took this class because it was required for my transfer. I did not expect to love it so much. Professor Vogel is an amazing teacher! I would definitely recommend this class even if it's not required.
Stellar Professor. Crafted her class well Outstanding teaching capacity Interactive and responsiveness Do not hesitate to take this class. Learned a lot A+ highly recommended
GREAT CLASS! Lots of reading but it is all super interesting. Tests and quizzes are easy as long as you watch all the online lectures and read text. I look forward to taking another one of her classes
she definitely makes you work for a good grade. there's a discussion post, quiz, and textbook reading every week. It's very time-consuming but the class is definitely worth it. you learn a lot.
I loved Professor Vogel! Her lectures and personality was amazing! Lectures were based on readings she would assign before the class, which were always not too long and super interesting. As long as you pay attention and take good notes you'll pass. She even goes over questions on the study guide with the class before the midterm and final.
I took this class online and it was the best decision. She is a great online teacher and is very helpful. Her homework is very clear and the date due is also. I would definitely recommend taking online.
discussion board posts make up most of the points. you can retake quizzes & a lot of test questions are recycled. the lectures are interesting and topical, and the readings can be skimmed and are primarily useful to intelligently answer discussion boards. the grading criteria is super clear and if you keep up with the work, you'll def get an A
This online class was fairly easy, and Vogel's lectures are very easy to understand. Be ready to read the selected material, and have work done by Thursday of the week. Tests and quizzes are very easy if you did the discussion board.
Professor Vogel is a gem. Her Cultural Anthropology class is not an easy A but not hard to get a B either. Her class consists of discussions, a midterm and final, quizzes, and a paper on rituals. A lot of the questions from the midterm and final are from the quizzes as well but some will be on the class readings so be sure to do the discussions.
Professor Vogel is not bad for Anthropology 1 although I recommend Professor Pittaway for Bio Anthropology (I only took her for the lab section). Her class consists of discussions, a midterm and final, quizzes, and a zoo project or a research paper.
I was worried taking this class because Prof. Vogel expects us to be in "college-level" in writing, but it's easy A!Discussion board is a huge percentage of my grade, they're lengthy, but I worked hard to get full credits! For final paper, as long as you follow the prompt, you'll be fine. Midterm/final have essay questions; study guides are given.
10 discussion boards that are worth a lot but are more tedious than difficult. Clear study guides for tests and quizzes are open-note. Video lectures are captivating, and assignments are actually fun to do. She is very accommodating if you have an issue that caused you to turn in an assignment late or not perform as well as you thought.
Professor Vogel led an amazing class. The lectures are very informational and the class is very well structured. I took the eight-week course which I found to be slightly reading heavy but still manageable. She is very caring and willing to help, even offering to proofread some papers for students who struggle with writing.
Her class is definitely the easiest class I have ever taken. she grades participation but the homework assignments and tests are so easy that not showing up a few times won't hurt. It's difficult to sit through a class as she doesn't allow phones and her lectures are super boring. barely anyone showed up to class or participated. def an easy A.
Professor Vogel is one of the best professors at saddleback so far she cares so much about her students success. There is a decent amount of homework assignments but they are all easy and interesting. She makes you want to participate in class, And that's coming from someone who is usually too nervous to participate! Highly recommend this class.
Professor Vogel is a very kind person. The class is a lot of busy work. Easy A, if you just show up and fill out all of the assignments. The end of the class is one of the more interesting of Saddleback. Overall pretty good.
If you need this course for any reason, Professor Vogel is the best choice you could ever make! So kind as a person, and very good at explaining difficult concepts in easy terms. One midterm and a final, no oral presentations, just in class participation. Two paper assignments, both doable. 10/10!
Super cute and sweet professor. Need to show up to class for participation points. Class was really not that hard. Hwk is reading articles and answering 3 q's for each article. Test is multiple choice and 3-4 free response questions based on her lectures and slide notes and not really that difficult if you just show up and pay attention in class.
Professor Vogel is absolutely amazing. I took her second eight-week online course worried about the amount of work it would take. However, she is very clear about her expectations and if you follow her syllabus and participate/submit assignments on time you'll be fine. She genuinely wants all her students to take something from her class.
Professor Vogel cares about her students and makes clear instructions on every assignment and test. There's a bit of busy work but if you get that done and study a little for each test then the class is an easy A.
I LOVE HER! She is really awesome and makes sure that students are at least having fun. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The assignments are awesome. There are 2 exams open note online and one in class with notecard--TOO easy. 1 essay. Super straightforward and nice grader. Super chill and nice
By far one of the best teachers I have ever had, if you're lucky enough to get her teaching you then you're blessed.
I had no desire to take this class and ended up really enjoying it! She made class super enjoyable and super easy! The transition to all online was so smooth and did not require a ton of effort to keep your grade high. Only 2 tests but heavily reliant on in class readings and lectures so GO TO CLASS!
It is a fast track online class, the class is straight forward and has clear grading criteria. It is just a very easy GE class as long as you pay attention and do the work. One essay, eight discussion boards, 1 midterm, and 1 final. She is not a tough grader as I thought.
Prof. Vogel is the best!! Her lectures are SO interesting and she is super caring and understanding. Always looked forward to her class, and even doing assignments was fun. She's really funny and the class vibe was very welcoming.
I AM SO GLAD I took this class with her. Erica is a super solid choice for those looking to fill a GE credit. Her classes can be a little boring here and there, but she is a super fun and cool person. LOVED the trip the zoo project. I recommend taking with friends as there are group projects
Took her class during the summer thinking there would be a lot of work, but it's very doable. She is quick to respond through email and is very understanding if you have to turn in something late. Very caring and overall great class.
This was the second anthro class I've taken, and I absolutely loved it and would take another with Professor Vogel in a heartbeat. She is clear in her expectations, passionate about what she teaches, and encourages students to ask questions and seek her out on campus. Her lectures are thorough, educational, and engrossing.
Her ANTH1 is slightly harder than ANTH2 but it is not a hard class if you prepare for the midterm and final. Do the homework on time and you will get an A for sure.
Professor Vogel is an amazing instructor. A very informative and enjoyable class. Midterm and Final, you must study for. I'd say if you put in the work, A is very doable.
Great Prof. Fast and clear grading.
Erica Vogel is one of the kindest professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking. She was the reason I changed my major to anthropology. Any course of hers will undoubtedly be interesting and enjoyable. I cannot recommend her enough.
I loved Professor Vogels class. The material was really interesting and her lectures were straight forward. Workload was manageable and relatively easy to complete.
Professor Vogel is one of the best instructors I've had! Lectures are clear, concise, and interesting. I've never felt afraid to ask a question or for help. She makes sure you understand the content and her expectations. She's genuinely invested in your learning experience
Took Magic, Witchcraft, and Religion with her. I didn't know much about the topics but still found the class fairly easy. Very fun class and had a lot of assignments that actually seemed relevant. Assignments were very manageable length and quizzes were few and far between.
Professor Vogel is amazing and very kind. She gets back to her emails quickly and is extremely helpful if you need it. This class has a lot of reading in order to do reading quizzes so you have to put work in, but Professor Vogel made this class a good experience.
I have taken this professor twice. She does a great job both online and in-person. She's quick to respond to questions you may have via canvas which is nice during the pandemic. There are some quizzes that go with the weekly reading and lectures but you have two chances. Also there's one paper and two tests.
I have taken Professor. Vogels various classes three times this year, the difficulty of these three classes(ANTH1, ANTH2, ES1) are considered not hard as long as you prepare the midterm and the final study guide. Make sure to do the extra credit she offered, bump your grades a lot. ES1 has three pages essay at the end of the 8 weeks semester.
Two chances for every quiz. Online class is open note for tests and quizzes. Responds quickly to emails. Do the reading and study for midterm and final. Up to 30 points of extra credit which massively bumps up your grade. 4-5 page research paper at the end which takes awhile so start early. Follow all her criteria; it's all outlined and specific
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! she seems easy but she doesn't care about her students I had an A all semester and she dropped my grade to a C at the end. Same thing happened to 5 different students only in my class! do NOT take her, trust me!
Professor Vogel is a great teacher & her curriculum online is built to really engage the class in some great discussions. The class goes by fast and its important to keep up with each weeks assignment. And Canvas discussion posts is huge in this class. Solid amount of work, gradually gets more challenging each week with great topics worth learning!
A great teacher you usually have one assignment per week which are easy to understand and follow, tons of extra credit opportunities and tests, and fairly easy
OMG I love her. She just has an aura around her that is noticeable even via her weekly video lectures. This class was so entertaining and you almost never have to read the textbook because her videos are always detailed about what we need to know for the quizzes and exams. Great class! Also lots of extra credit options
I've taken 3 courses taught by Professor Vogel and I have enjoyed every one of them. She is extremely nice and is very understanding. She makes the information digestible and makes it fun. As someone who has had an in-person class and one online with her, I can say that I think she did amazing at teaching both.
Great woman who cares about the students. Lots of EC opportunities but get your stuff in on time. She really appreciated participation and makes the material interesting. Lots to read and videos to watch but they really help you get the concepts down. Really can't stress how fun and understanding she is.
Lots of reading and some videos to watch, but generally the assignments are super easy if you actually read and watch what's assigned. Prof Vogel is super nice and gives quick and helpful feedback in my experience.
easy A
Easy and interesting class. A lot of extra credit offered as well
I love Professor Vogel! One of the kindest and genuine professors I've had. I highly recommend this class, it covers many different topics, all of which are super interesting. You can attend optional zoom meetings to exempt you from discussion boards, which I thought was awesome! I'm definitely going to try to take more classes w/ her in the future
Professor Vogel is so fun and excited about what she is teaching! It is such a fun class that actually lets you learn without feeling overwhelmed. Her tests were related to her lectures and the textbook. She was organized and genuine. I truly enjoyed her class because it was entertaining and informational. She is so educated and experienced!
Ive had Vogel for Anthro 2 (much easier) and 13 (still easy but a LOT of content to read and watch) and she is a solid choice. I enjoy her prerecorded lectures, usually sped up to save on time. The few zoom sessions I attended were interesting. Summer classes are doable and the full term classes are hardly a stress. Stuff due Thursdays/Sunday.
Im taking the 8 week course. Its a lot more than usual 8 week courses. Particularly because her discussion boards are thought provoking. Weekly quizzes. 1 paper. 2 exams! I did it, got an A. Insanely smart and accomplished professor. Shes a gem.
I didn't consider taking anthro until I met her. Her asynchronous class's workload is manageable and while the material isn't hard, you do learn a lot of valuable information, even if you half ass every thing. Shes very understanding and approachable. Never met a person who didn't like her.
Dr. Vogel is such a caring professor, her articles are incredibly interesting just make sure you have enough time to read everything. Her quizzes are relatively easy and the discussion boards are also pretty easy. There are three projects in the semester and she gives you enough time to do them. Extra credit too! Lectures are casual/ fun to listen.
I absolutely loved learning with Prof. Vogel! She is super sweet & very responsive to help her students. I took the 8week course so it was definitely a lot of work, but the lectures & discussion boards were fairly manageable & interesting to study. Just make sure to manage your time & attend her zoom meetings if she offers them. It'll be worth it!
I took this in an 8 week class and finished with a 99%. So easy. Textbook not needed. If you watch lectures and review study guides you'll be set. Short quiz and a discussion every week, but they are very easy. 2 exams - a midterm and final (non cumulative). The only criticism I had was that her lectures were a bit boring and mildly unstructured.
HON12H: Postmodern World; This class was fascinating. Professor Vogel is brilliant! Effortlessly likable. Understanding. If youre a competent student that is passionate about academia I would take her classes. Took her for Anthro1 last 8 weeks; Lectures are always a pleasure.
Great professor! The subject material is often very focused, you will do a deep dive into very niche topics. She's super involved with the school, so she frequently hosts academic events that are not only intriguing but worth extra credit. She ultimately cares deeply and is both a dedicated anthropologist and member of the saddleback community.
Dr. Vogal is a fantastic professor. I have taken two of the Anthro classes. Her lectures are engaging and her tests are straightforward. I recommend you read all the assignments assigned in order to do well on the tests but the reading is fascinating. Enjoy
Professor Vogel receives a 3 because her workload was very easy and the test were simple even though they made up majority of your grade. Even though her workload is easy, she is very disorganized and the lectures arent helpful or interesting unless you care about mostly classmates opinions. Easy grade but bad teacher.
I took ANTH 13 online, free textbook but we really only used it in the first chapter. Discussion boards every week with quizzes on that weeks material. Is always available by email for assistance and gives good feedback on assignments. One 5-6 page essay due, but is easy if you read the material and start early.
Very disappointed in the class, it was more about writing lengthy discussion boards and essays than learning about anthropology. Midterm and final exams included essay questions that were disproportionately weighted at 100-150 points for one question. Final essay paper was about the COVID pandemic and unrelated to Cultural Anthropology.
Great prof. Tough grader on exam questions but if you do the reading and fully answer the questions, correctly, there's no issue. Manageable time-lines. Heavy discussion boards.
Honestly, I only took this class because I needed the credits. Due to it being online, I really didn't try, and I still got a B. The class was graded on a discussion post every week, 2 essays, and 2 tests. I think that if you are into anthropology, you will probably like this class. If you are like me however, you can just cruise through it online.
I took her 8 week course and each week there was a quiz and discussion. In order to complete both, you had to watch the lectures since the quiz and discussions were based off of it. Some weeks there were documentaries but they lowkey weren't boring but rather interesting. Finished this class unexpectedly learning sm about primates and evolution lol
Good class experience. Sit next to someone who talks alot, makes class period/discussions less boring. Easy multiple Choice midterm with short response, lectures not important after that. Final project based on fieldwork, can be difficult to choose a fitting location, so start early. Lotta movie-watching during middle of semester. Nice professor.
Be aware that this class is easy related to Discussion Boards and Module exams. The problem is with the Final Exam (48 questions under 60 minutes) and an Essay (10 pages). I am an A+ student, and I was doing well until the Final exam, which was a grueling experience my three attempts to have my essay graded had an AI high percentage.
As a full-time working parent, I dedicate endless nights to my studies, but no matter what I tried, I kept being accused of Plagiarism. To verify claims, I uploaded my three re-written essays to Grammarly, showing between 1-5% of plagiarism. Not sure where this AI cheating percentage is coming from? or what company is in charge.
Her curriculum was a joke . All about genders and politically correct . She is very judgmental and you need to be careful not to challenge her . I totally lost my interest in anthropology.
Prof. Vogel is very knowledgeable. Loved the ethnographies and other readings for this class! She's incredibly accessible in office hours and gives great feedback for the written assignments.
Took her 8 week long summer course. Midterm and final are fully based on her lectures, which are pretty interesting in my opinion. Easy grader, but takes a while to publish grade. Discussion each week, which requires some reading, but is pretty easy.
She's not too bad, overall the class is doable, some discussions were time consuming but it was fine. She is insanely annoying about ai so be prepared to hear about it nonstop. She even accused me of using ai and dropped my grade from an A to a B.
So easy. I took this course for a GPA boost. She gives extra credit opportunities. Discussion post each week(20%).A little time consuming w all the reading. Exams are super easy(23%). 4-5 page writing assignment worth 30% of your grade at the end. As a STEM major, it was manageable.
A professor who knows her stuff & includes a lot of interesting reading. Heavy reading. One discussion board per week, but you have to provide comments 3 times on it. Mid-term and Final test are based on readings and lectures. Final paper's topic is your choice. Her grading is straight forward. She is always available via email & very responsive.
Professor Vogel was so amazing. One discussion post per week and the class was low maintenance. Her lectures aren't tediously long or boring and she makes it engaging. About 5 extra credit opportunities, 3 in-person and 3 online if I remember correctly. She's really nice and will give extensions as long as it is within reason. Overall really great!
Professor Vogel's ANTH2 class was a manageable experience. The workload was reasonable, with weekly discussions and a couple exams. While the lectures could be dry, the material was interesting if you're into anthropology. I found unstuck ai's practice quizzes really helpful for studying.
I really enjoyed this eight-week course. Each week started with clear instructions on what was expected, which made it easy to stay on track. There's a good amount of reading and lecture videos, but they're all very interesting. I recommend scheduling a meeting with her at some point in the semester, she is lovely, and extra credit is offered!
It was a lot of assignments but I felt that for an online course, it was manageable if you plan out your work and don't wait until the last minute. She also offered extra credit which was helpful!
She is so strict on AI to the point you can't even use Grammarly. If she finds out you've used AI even for the smallest amount of help she will reflect it by deducing LOTS of points on exams. I had to take this class to transfer I WOULD NOT recommend this class. Her office hours are useless and you have a ton of reading to do.
Medical anthropology was an easy, super interesting half-semester class that anyone thinking of going into medicine should take. Even though I'm not pre-med, it was a unique and eye-opening class. Instead of a typical final paper, you interview and write about someone's experience with illness. Prof is very responsive and kind. Underrated course fr
I usually never leave reviews. STEM major, final year with straight A's UNTIL this class. The professor is the worst I have had. Barely gave me any feedback despite me putting a lot of thought and effort into the final interview and the final exam (essay).
A class that will leave you a better person. Professor Vogel is very accessible and responsive over email. The readings are interesting and breezy for a humanities class. The final project is a unique and meaningful one. She offers to meet with everybody to provide feedback ahead of time, so there really is no excuse for doing poorly on it.
lovely professor
If you're going to be my doctor or nurse in the future I hope you take this course or something like it.
Was a wonderful professor, group project were an absolute blast and the material lectured was deeply interesting and engaging.
Fascinating class. It was a lot of work, but I learned a great deal and am glad I took it. She answers emails quickly and really cares, but takes a long time to grade, which is the only drawback. Would take again.
WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. I got a 17/20 on the first DB, despite the hours I spent completing it. I saw she is an unfair grader, so I looked to drop the class, only to see the drop without a W date had already passed by the beginning of the second week of school, which was also FOUR days before the first assignment was even graded. Worst 3-unit class.
Does NOT use McGrawHill & no textbook purchase. Now I did very well on all my discussion boards, midterm/final exams, & quizzes.. but the research paper was graded VERY harshly. It dropped my 98% to a 84%.. I had lots of sources but she claimed she couldn't find how my content came from any of the sources and was cited wrong which results in a zero
Make sure you are taking detailed notes during lectures. She asks for specific examples from her lectures in the midterm and the final exam, and takes off quite a few points if you don't have one. Feedback is given on most assignments and Extra credit is offered.
My favorite class I have taken at any school thus far. I've gotten used to pretty standard, lackluster online classes that pretty much consist of reading the textbook and taking multiple choice quizzes and tests. Erica assigns fascinating readings and assigns work that is challenging but truly makes you think. Will take her again!
