This teacher is very very hot! Who cares how he teaches he is so cute he's worth just sitting in his class.
He is nice but his exams are INSANELY HARD, he is the hardest Math teacher on Campus, so you have been warned
Great butt! He is a track coach so the class is filled with HOT looking dudes TOO! But Erich can't teach very well so get a tutor and just enjoy watching him write on the board and the athletes flexing in class. I love every minute of it.

Erich is a smart and demanding teacher. It is not easy to get an A in his class, but not an impossible mission, too. He is laways ready to help if you encounter any problems. To succeed in his class you have to be really sharp on math and logical thinking.
Not a great professor, I had him twice thinking, " hey he might get better as the sequence progresses, if your looking to transfer to a 4 year University, AVOID HIM, it probably will be the class taht will screw your GPA permanently.
He he knows math but his test are hard I had to retake the class.
Very helpful and very fair
This guy really knows his upper level mathematics, but teaching at the level of the students is a far cry from his capabilities. Take his class ONLY if you can't get anything else to meet your degree requirements.
Take his class only if you want your GPA to drop down to the basement.
He is a very helpful advisor and precalc teacher. His lectures are clear and stresses exactly what will be on the test. No quizes no graded homework just tests and a final. A very fair graded...A+
nice, very clear, but his test are soooooo hard
Had him last quarter and hated it. He never helped anyone very clearly, although he's actually not a bad guy as a person. Not ideal for those who need guidance in math. Difficult, and if you're in the honors track, avoid this course by all means or risk getting kicked out of the honors program.
He's a very nice guy, but his tests are difficult.
AS A PERSON ERICH IS REALLY GOOD AND FAIR. HE DOES NICE ADVISING, BUT IN THE CLASS AND TESTS YOU HAVE TO THINK VERY LOGICALLY. HIS TESTS ARE VERY LONG. HE ASKS 28 TO 30 QUESTIONS IN 50 MINUTS. IF YOU ARE REALLY REALLY GOOD AT MATH, THEN ATAKE HIS CLASS, OTHERWISE I DONT RECOMMENED HIM.
He explains okay, but his tests are very hard.
Very good teacher.Little hard on test but all u hv to do is understand material he covers in class and u'll do good. Highly recommended!!!
He is a very good professor!!! He is also very awesome at being an advisor, helping students plan out what courses to take and to take care of the transferring business. He is also willing to help out his students to learn the material, meaning the student has to see him on their own time. Awesome!!
He is a great person, but a horrible instructor...and this is coming from someone in honors. His test are next to impossible, and he is not clear on his material. I would highly recommend that you look elsewhere to learn Math 131 if you can.
all he does is teach the examples out of the book. no extra examples. does the work on the board, no participation to help you. he is a good advisor for classes to take, but not a clear teacher. test are hard and he is not clear on work
I have never had such a hard teacher. He doesn't care that over half the class is failing and in general just sucks at teaching a hard class. DO NOT TAKE if you expect over a C, it's not going to happen. Class avg was a 51%
He might know his stuff, but that doesn't mean the class will. He doesn't care if the whole class is failing and 95% of the kids have to drop out. Even if you put every effort into this class you most likely will fail. His tests are hard and is more difficult than what he teaches in class. Find another teacher dont waste your time and money

He is a good professor and teaches and presents the material well. Only drawback is that his classes' grades are primarily test grades... no homework/attendance grade, no extra credit, and no curve. To overcome all of this, one must study and really work f
Erich is a very skilled instructor. If you do all your homework, his tests are very "do-able." He always makes everyone feel very comfortable to ask questions in class, and he is very welcoming with his office time if you need extra help. He is an excellent counselor also!
I took the Math 131 class. Maybe it was just that particular class, but 3/4 of the class dropped by the end of the quarter and I think that only a handful passed the class. Besides that, Hauenstein is a really smart, non-geeky math prof that cares about his students. He does a good job of making sure you're ready to go on to the next level math class, and if you're not... you wont go on.
Helpful and fair but be warned. His tests are the hardest things I've ever seen. It took me half the quarter to realized getting the RIGHT answer was pontless and to just show that I knew HOW to do the math involved. THEN check my answers...if I had time, which I rarely did. I'm an average at best math student and wsa able to squeak out a B
Worst math teacher I ever had!!! He has time to help you but his test are hard as hell and that is all he grades on. DO NOT TAKE HIS AS A TEACHER. My hole class was failing with a 51% avg.
nice guy, horrible teacher. tests were impossible, only did examples from the book which were already done for us in the book. really liked him as a person, not as a teacher.
Great guy, bad teacher. his test are very hard lucky if you got a C, class is made up of only 5 test and the final. very fair about things and is very willing to help you outside of class. If you dont like to do HW this class is not for you. Will not learn with doing the HW.
Not the best at teaching, but he is passionate about it. Will help you if needed but always seems busy. Class was hard, everyone seemed to struggle. He likes to go off on tangents all the time, which made it hard to learn.
He's A nice guy, Buthe was always in a rush, does not teach clearly, does not show many examples at all and uses the BOOKlike a bible. Always rants about how his Religion is good. He can be an ass and Treats a good looking girl nicer than other girls and guys. If your NOT STUPID!Dont take him sorry but this guys SUCKS out of 30 5or6 finished class
Prof. Hauenstein gives clear examples in his class and explains each topic thoroughly. There is no need to take the final exam if you feel that you've already passed the class after the 4th test. Although he was frequently late, he is a great professor!
He likes to talk, a lot. A lot a lot. Like, he never stops the two hours you have him. Even though the algebra is super simple. He's a nice guy, very friendly. But his class bores me, even though I love algebra. He gives a lot of homework, but doesn't check it.
awesome teacher
Extremely knowledgable, approchable, and professional. He does not take attendance (thus it is not part of grade) and homework is optional. However, you will not do well in class if you are absent or unwilling to try some homework. Good teacher for those of you how do well on quizzes and tests, that is only source of your grade. I am taking again
He's such a nice teacher! Extremely helpful and always willing to work with you if you don't understand something. I would definitely recommend him to anyone! Class was hard, but he is fair with his partial credit. Then again, Calc is always going to be hard! No final for his class!
great teacher......makes up many lame stories that help in many math problems...best teacher for math in all of college of dupage
Alert, alert! Best math professor at COD. Try to take any of his classes if you can. This guy is so helpful and essay to understand. Plus, his class policies are extremely reasonable. You deserve a teacher like him!
Not a bad teacher, just okay. Homework was never assigned and tests/quizzes were the only grades. I wouldn't recommend him if you suck at test taking (like myself). However, he was extremely helpful if you asked for it. Not the worst math teacher I've had at COD.
He is extremely easy going. He is very clear and makes math easy to understand. He is very helpful and willing to assist you if you're struggling. He does not require attendance and there is very little homework. He's a great teacher if you have a difficult time with math.
He is a very nice guy.. but he never has extra credit, he is very strict on not letting anyone retake tests of quizzes when absent, his tests are hard/long and is more difficult than what he teaches in class. he is very smart on doing quizzes the last ten minutes so that anyone who ditches in the middle cant take them but i always felt rush when he
Nice guy but his tests are harder. He would show and example but once he tests you it is much harder and complicated than what he taught. I swear he tried to trick us everytime... very frustrating.
He was not an easy teacher but he was a very good one. Always willing 2 help, explained everything well, gave3-4 examples of each problem, made you think! Test n quizzes weren't easy but if you really focused he's an easy B! Recommended for new college students who aren't that great @ math. He's an outstandin example of what a teacher should be!
He is aight. i really meant he is aight. If you want to get B or lower you should take it...too much work! quizes almost everyweek...and just not that good. His exams are some of problem from quiz but still its not easy to get an A in his class. bottom line i wouldn't recommend ya to take him
Erich is one of the best teachers I have had at COD so far.I am terrible at math, and this is my second time taking 0482-very frustrating. No,the material is not easy, but if you make the initiative to get extra help outside of class,he is willing to do whatever he can to help you pass with at least a C.EXTREMELY helpful if your're willing to ask!!
Great teacher!!
Extremely helpful and accommodating. I had to leave the class a week and half early and he made it easy to finish up the class on my own in time for me to leave. The material can be hard but he's generous with partial credit and is helpful if you show up to office hours. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone looking to take calc.
Prof. Hauenstein in the most amazing math teacher I' ever had.If you're not interested in math and just want an easy grade, forget it. But if you enjoy being challenged and love to learn ,he is the best mentor ever. You'll leave the class with a throughout knowledge of whatever he's teaching, he is very smart and dedicated .
he is one if the best teachers that i have ever taken, you want to pass then attend his class, and look forward to doing your homework, a really easy teacher to learn from, very detailed on his work which makes it easier for you to understand. i took him for 0482, 0482, pre calc and passed with an A or a B on all of them. i recomand him overall
Stop deliberating and take his class. Your search for the perfect math prof has ended with Prof. Hauenstein. Incredibly helpful. You can tell he gets enthusiastic about math; it's cute. Tries to build rapport with you; great. Stop reading this and take his class!
Great math teacher. He is the perfect teacher for anyone who struggles with math. He told you from the first day that he would do everything he could to help you pass, which is true. His classes are not dull, sometimes he adds humor to a boring math lesson. Very likable person. Willing and eager to help and takes time to re-explain things.
He was awesome. Super nice and helpful. Always had time for me. He knows how to teach math so everyone understands. One of the best math teachers at C.o.d take his class!
He is awesome Teacher, very helpful and goes into depth with his lesson to ensure that you understand the material.
He is awsome!! I have a learning disability, his teaching made me feel like I was a wiz at math. He uses alot of analagies, to help you understand the math. I would seriously reccomend this guy. You can tell, teaching isnt just a job to him.
E. Hau is the man to go to if you are in need of some serious help in math! He is a GREAT teacher and always willing to set aside one on one time if you need help understanding material....take his class!
I did very poorly in math during high school, but Mr. Hauenstein made it very easy for me. He is fun, easy to listen to, and makes class easy because you WANT to do well for him. He is very encouraging and respectful. I would highly recommend him for those who struggle with math.
he is apparently a great teacher for precalc. but for calculus DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. my entire class failed. the test averages were below 50%. although i did my homework and understood the material, he somehow found a way to fail us all. doesn't care about his students grades
I loved doing math... until I have struggled with precalc because of Hauenstein. I don't know exactly why people say he's a good teacher but apparently he's NOT!!! Your only chances to pass is on quizzes and exams. NO points for attendance or HW. Whatever you do: continue to deliberate and don't take any of his classes!!!
I geniunly have a lot of respect for professor Haunstein... I took him for a summer course..and though he is a helpful professor... an 8 week course IS NOT EASY AT ALL..if you do not put in hours of hwk and studying to pass..I do reccomend him..but let me tell you again it he will not make it any easier than it actually is.
Precalc in 8 weeks is hard, but Prof H was very helpful.
This guy was never helpful. Don't take him...
I took this Calculus course thinking it would be easy since I took Calc in High School. I was wrong. He quizzes/tests on the most complex problems and limits your time (1hr and 20min for a 5-6 page test). Sitting in class is a waste of time, he only does easy problems and I already know the basics and he doesnt even test on those easy problems.
Hauenstein is probably the best calc prof at COD. He is very clear and uses funny examples in class. However, his tests are just too damn long. Demonstrating our knowledge in a few comprehensive problems should be enough; we're not competing for the Mathletes so we shouldnt be expected 2 whiz through the problems like we've been teaching for 30 yrs
ALSO: He spent WAY too long going over the first 3 chapters and now we're crunching 2 chapters into the last few weeks of the semester. Answering questions for 30 mins per class is nice, but I suggest you not do that anymore professor.
He always starts out as a good teacher but you will soon realize through his test and quizes that he teaches very easy but his test are nightmares. he would tell u 2+2 if 4 in class but on the test he would ask u (2x+3)^3 find the direvative and the intergrate then find x to where blah blah blah. something he never taught in class.
This guy is very nice and explains things well. HOWEVER, it doesn't matter how well you understand because his tests are needlessly long and his final is brutal. I knew how to solve every problem on the final but left 25% blank because of time constraints. I spoke with other students and they felt the same way. I honestly believe this is unjust.
I had him as my professor for 1431 as well as 1432. He wants us to do well and the enthusiasm he teaches with is undescribably uplifting. He's always a very positive mentor to talk to and beyond willing to help fuel interest in math for those moving on to Calc Series as well as any math course. I'm going to miss his course.
Like the previous comment, he teaches you how to do 2+2 but on the test gives you the hardest problems known to man. His quizes are similar to the test and he expects you to do homework which can be irrelevant to the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you are an A student
He teaches you easy problems on the board, but his tests are difficult. If you miss a day of class, he isn't very helpful (although he says he is). I just stopped coming to his class at the end of the semester because I knew that I wouldn't pass. He says that he will help you out, but he doesn't.
Honestly this teacher seems nice but has a horrible way of running his class. First he teaches the easiest material in class and then gives completely different problems on the test. I really tries to pass this class and studies hard yet he still failed me.
Knows the material thoroughly and makes very few mistakes on the board allowing for a very ideal learning experience.
Not the best teacher. If you are a hard worker, take him. Good luck.
Mr. Hauenstein is a poor math teacher. As people stated before his tests are completely different from the home work and quizes. I felt like he was trying to trick me. I formed a study group, and spent many long hours studying..I still did poorly on tests.
Erich is a really nice guy, and a very good teacher. His HW is not mandatory but i recommend doing it if you want to pass the tests. His tests are pretty simple most of the time but he usually throws one or two tricky problems in. All in all if you actually want to take the class and u pay attention u can easily come out with a B with minimal work.
I took him for Business Calculus, and am very pleased. He explains things clearly and is always willing to help. I am one of those people who understand math, therefore it wasn't too difficult. However, his tests are much harder than the homework problems. Do the homework, come to class, ask questions and you should manage to get an A ;]
best math theacher I had clear, explains the matirial in full, but the class isn't easy. He will teach you something even if you fail, like I did first time around. You'll discover your weak points and he'll help you fix them Tests are hard and harder then homework, which isn't graded.10 out of 13quizes count and final replaces lowest test score :)
Really good teacher. I took Business Calc with him and the class itself is difficult. You really have to work in the class. He gives daily quizzes & most questions come from hw. Exams are difficult, but if you pay attention in class and do the hw you'll be fine. Has great analogies/tricks to help you remember things. Recommended.
I highly recommend professor Hauenstein. He is really helpful and wants his students to do well. If the class is having problems he will spend an extra day or two on the problem section. Gives partial credit for answers. Be sure to do well on quizzes!! Keep up with your homework and ask questions when needed. No problem getting a B or A.
His tests will give you a heart attack. There were so many tricky questions. He will constantly refer to something called "math intuition" - which is rightfully appropriate. He was clear and helpful enough that I got a C. His class is very social. People talked to each other and helped each other because his tests are just so death defying.
Overall good professor. But like all other full time faculty, he can drop the ball occasionally due to his job security. He can be late to class often.
Not very good at explaining key ideas in the chapter. Goes over material briefly and makes up quizzes/tests on his own which are different than hw assignments given. Difficult 6 page tests
material we went over in class was very basic and he never discussed more complex problems that would be in hw, then only answered 3 questions on hw the next class. tests did not really pertain to hw problems, like mentioned before, it seemed like he was trying to trick me the entire semester
I got straight A's throughout high school in math classes, then all of a sudden when i take this class, i failed nearly every test and quiz. The only one I didn't fail was the one where I taught myself the chapter. He knows math very well, just not how to explain it. I see no reason for anyone to take his classes
He explains the problems really well, like I get the problem easily, but when it comes to the test you better study and ask for an extra help coz if you don't u will fail his class . And if you're looking for a REAL CHALLENGE take him, but I don't guarantee that you will get an A in his class coz it's too hard
He was an OK teacher. He tried his best to find comparisons between the lessons and real world situations, and at times they were confusing. However, if you decide to take his class, STUDY THE DIFFICULT SECTIONS OF A CHAPTER. The tests were difficult because at times, the problems on the test involved sections that weren't gone over in class.
Big mistake signing up for his class. The work load is overwhelming! I take at least 3 hours out of the day do perfect my homework and yet i still fail the tests. Hes not mean but hes kind of unaware of his students sufferings. Hes a nice person but his expectations are way too high.
HIs tests are soo long and so detailed. I'm a math person and I still struggled a lot. Do every single homework thoroughly to get a good grade. I don't recommend him at all, there are better ones out there.
Most horrible teacher I have ever had and I consider myself to be pretty good at math, I can easily get an A without studying, He talks too much and goes off topic. He gives the easy examples but doesn't really work out hard problems that wind up on the test. He covers so little material in a long amount of time. Worst teacher I've ever had.
Overall fair teacher, I must admit calculus is super hard for anybody so understanding it takes a while to learn and study. People can't blame the teacher for them not understanding. I highly recommend refreshing alegbra skills before taking this course. If you ask questions, he will ways work it out until you understand it! Very approachable!
He is a very helpful professor. You MUST study to pass. He will go over any questions you have in and out of class. The subject is hard but he tries to make a little easier for you. You get an hour to take the tests which may feel short if you don't study much.
Very hard class. Don't miss classss cause it's hard to catch up. If you ever think you will leave the class early, you will not leave early. This guy kills time like no other. Sometimes he finishes 30mins before class is over, but he provides you with more pointless examples. Has some awesome real life examples. Drinks orange juice every day.
Professor Hauenstein is one of the coolest professor at COD. He is nice and laid back and he definitely knows his math. I wish I could have taken him through the whole calc sequence. Definitely recommend!
You're graded on pop quizzes and tests. Test questions are from HW or previous work, but time constraints make it impossible to finish. Clear teacher. Easy to follow his work on the board. He is very willing to provide help outside of class. Partially recommend because an A seems practically impossible for the course.
Prof is a genuinely friendly person. He thoroughly explains the material, is honest, and doesn't hold students to unrealistic expectations. He doesn't post grades on blackboard throughout the semester, however his grading system is simple enough to figure it out yourself. If only more math teachers were like him, I highly recommend him!
Pretty friendly teacher and very fair on his grading. He is not like a high school teacher that doesn't take points off for a small mistake even if you got your answer right. He can also give out quizzes on a short notice too. He also doesn't care about attendance which is also a fair game for me personally too.
Spends so much time on easy examples, but on the test there are hard ones. He also puts things on the test he doesn't cover in class, so be sure to read the chapter in the textbook very well beforehand.
Good teacher, all other comments are by slackers. Math is hard, go to lecture, do your homeowrk. He drops 2 lowest quizzes & lets you take a final to replace lowest test. Pop quiezzes. he's a nice guy, sometimes funny & always has organge juice.
Not really sure why he got negative feedback at all. Hauenstein was one of my favorite teachers this semester. I think he does a really great job at explaining the lessons. He's also an extremely generous grader. Gives you points on the test for literally just trying. No surprises on the tests. He tells you what will be on it and bases it off hw
Nice guy. Truly cares about his students and is willing to help. However his tests are tough. He talks so much about random things we only get to one or two easy examples in class, then on the tests there are always hard problems he never went over. Its alot of teaching yourself from the book, which with math, is hard.
You're basically on your own, and for this specific class I wouldnt say it is completely his fault. The classes are 50 min. long and if there is a pop quiz, technically 40. He just cant answer all of the questions. But, at the same time, he is very tough to understand, pop quizzes every week, and there is material on tests that we didnt cover.
I had Professor Hauenstein for Calc 1 in the 8 - week summer session. He is a great professor. The homework is not graded or collected, but you will not be able to pass with out practicing some hw problems. There are 3 tests that are really long and difficult. He gives around 13 quizzes and keeps the 10 best quiz scores. Final is hard as well.
I had Erich for Calc 1 and he is awesome I am very impressed with the quality of teachers for math in this school he is difficult as hell but you learn a lot and its necessary for upper level math later on
Best math professor I have ever had. He cares about his students and is always available to help you out. Although tests are hard, keep up with homework and you should be fine. If you are struggling with math, he understands and gives great advice/ recourses.
Summer-8 weeks. His lectures were long, abstract, and boring. He did not provide enough examples to make the content concrete to understand. This left even a good student with substantial amount of work to do outside of class to regain pace with where he expected us to be. The notes were no where near sufficient and one had to rely on reading books
He is a really great teacher. I am taking him again next semester. Attendence isn't mandatory but you don't want to risk missing a quiz or test. Explains things really well. If you do you homework and pay attention you will get an A. What you put in you get out . I struggle with math but have never gotten lower than an A on all quizzes and tests!
Great teacher. Great with conversation and interaction. He offers a lot of time outside of class to come see him, but if it is unobtainable when you don't understand something, you're kind of screwed. He only has 50 minutes to squeeze in as much as he can but it is extremely rushed. Problems on tests are 10x harder than lecture problems.
Great professor! Tests are tough (compliment). 13 quizzes keeps best 10. Take all 8 chapter tests and final can replace lowest score. Advice for success: take advantage of his office hours, do homework, visit math assistance and learning commons, and don't give up! You will learn a lot and be well prepared for the next math class. Highly recommend!
clearest calc teacher I have seen he does a fantastic job explaining is easy to understand. his downfall is you need to get quick to finish his tests since they are long, and the only way to really get up to speed is do the homework over and over. A fantastic teacher that looks out for his students. attendance isn't required but he gives Quizzes.
he is not good. Currently in our 6th week of classing holding a low C. I've taken 2 math classes at cod and passed with flying colors. This guy knows his stuff but can't teach it. TEST are nothing like lectures. He leaves problems for you to learn on your own. He goes through the motions and doesn't explain why. take prof Fink. He is 10x better
He did not explain things well
Good professor. The only downfall is that the class is 50 minutes long. We never really had much time to go in depth during class & had to teach ourselves outside of class. Accessible outside of class & extremely caring. Do the homework and study and you'll get the grade you deserve. Beware, his tests are very difficult & differ from the homework.
He knows his stuff but doesn't know how to teach it. He isn't very clear in his lectures. Assigns a lot of homework, and you have to basically teach yourself the material. Homework and quizzes are easy, but he makes the tests completely different than the material taught during lectures. Really nice guy, but would never take him again.
Lectures were short and not very easy to understand. He would explain the simplest examples and then put hard problems on the test. He cares about his students but expects way to much for a pre-calculus class. I wouldn't take him again.
This guy is awful at teaching. He tries to act cool and use easy problems during class, then uses much more difficult problems on tests that were never even explained during class. The hard tests would be fine if he actually prepared his classes for them. He does this to boost his own ego, and make up for his inadequacy over being a C.C professor.
Although a cool guy, would never take him again. Do not make the same mistake as I did in choosing this as your professor. Does extremely easy problems on the board and assigns easy problems on the homework. The day of the test, you see the most complex problems that you have NEVER seen. The tests are long and extremely difficult. Beware
All his quizzes were homework problems and same with his tests. All the problems he chose were straight from the book. He assigns the odds but do the evens that are next to the odds! You'll get 10/10 on his quizzes and do great on exams. I didn't have to take a final, do good on the exams!do the homework! Most importantly do the homework 3 times;)
Trust me all you have to do is the homework problems odds and EVENS! The evens are usually on tests/quizzes! He helped me so much outside of class and right after! The kids complaining about him didn't put in the effort. He's a great teacher, one of the best at COD. Listen to me and do the homework 3 times, you'll get an A in his class. Work hard
His exams are little bit tough but he prepares everyone for calc 2.
He focuses on the easy problems during class that gets you started on the topic. Then half way through the homework you're stuck and have to teach yourself the rest. The first 20 minutes of class are just on homework questions and the last 30 minutes are to teach you the outline of the next topic. This class involves a lot of work!!
He expects you to know as much calc as him. On tests you are given 1 hour to do 3 pages that are filled with problems that take any calc 1 student time to do. He drops 1 test and 3 quizzes, but thats nothing for this class. You will never have enough time for exams. Also, he does easy problems in class, but the homework is 10x harder. Doesnt care.
Do HW and you are really good to go. If you require high school teaching method then don't take him.
He's a solid teacher. I recommend him. Yes, I only got a C, but I think that's more on me. I would take him again.
This review is on the 8 week calc1 summer course. First, I would recommend taking the full 16 wk course. Erich is a good guy and teaches well, BUT he has very high standards. You will be prepared for calc2 afterwards, but you will have to fight for your life to get a good grade. 3 of us had 4.0s going into this class, one of us failed and 2 got C's
I also took the Summer Calc class. Wish he taught calc 2! Stepping into calc 1 is challenging, let alone in half the semester length. He is one of the only calc teachers who gives partial credit (generously, too) but he also explains things perfectly, and has funny real-life examples. If you do ALL the homework, you'll get an A or B!
He's a nice guy and he teaches well. Very generous with partial credit and cares for his students more than most teachers. I would highly recommend him.
Because calculus 1 is a hard class, I took it 5 days a week. However, we only ended up using maybe 20 minutes of class each day for lecture. We would cover very basic problems, maybe 1 or 2 then it was up to you to do the 40ish question hw. Erich EXPECTS you to learn the material outside of class by going to math resource or his office. HARD CLASS
Erich is a nice guy and knows what he is doing but taking it for 5 days/wk it does not help. He spends more than half the class going over 1 problem from HW and then rushes through whatever unit we're learning. The HW helps for quizzes sometimes but the tests you will never be able to finish due to how long the problems take. SELF TEACH YOURSELF
Professor Hauenstein is a great lecturer. He explains the content fluently and organized. You can tell he knows the material very well. There's really nothing bad to say about the teacher himself but his class does not have wiggle room in terms of grades. Since there's no hw, you have to do well on his tests. Keep in mind, the tests are long.
Unless you are naturally inclined towards math Calc 1 (2231) is a very difficult class. Test were very rigorous and I was almost always racing the clock during the 50 min class period. If you decided to take it, Hauenstein is your guy! He is caring and available outside of class every single day, either in the tutoring center or his office. Great!
He was a nice person. He would put the easiest problems on the board to represent the topic and the homework problems were so difficult and the tests were even worse. He did give as many partial points as he could on tests. For a 50 minute class, the workload was extensive. The quizzes can be given the day after the lesson was taught or never.
Know your trig really really well and bring scratch paper to exams! The provided work space can get crammed on some problems, and if you want to redo the problem to make sure you got it right or just sketch out approaches to it, you're gonna need that extra space.
SUMMER CLASS REVIEW Homework is optional. But if you don't do the homework you will fail. Your grade depends on three test scores. If you are not a good test-taker like most of everyone DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM. Hauenstein is an excellent teacher though. He knows what he is doing and he explains the subject very well.
He usually came late to class and it concerned whether the class would be finished on time, but I think he understands exactly how much time is needed. Do all the homework and you will do well; the only test I did poorly on was the one I did not do ALL the homework. He cares about his students passing his class
Calculus is a hard class, but Professor Haunestein makes it bearable. I took the 50 minute classes 5x/week and there is a time issue, so if you want more time devoted to it, take a longer class period. Accessible out of class and always willing to help.
Prof H was the most generous professors i have ever taken. He really cares for his students, you definitely will have to put in work from your end, like doing the HW. If you visit him during office hours or the math center near an exam date, he will drop hints for you for what is to be on the exam! gives a lot of partial credit for dedicated kids.
Had him for a summer course. I thought it would be extremely difficult but the professor made it as easy as he could. also dont buy the book, if you want to get an ebook for free text me: 6052694284 we have to watch lots of videos from youtube and make sure you get the homework done so u are ready fpor the test, its always like 7 problems long
Nice guy and will go through the lengths to help you, but this class was awful. Only 50 minute long classes, which means he covers only the bare minimum during lecture. Some days had quizzes, which means you barely get 15 minutes to do and that's 15 minutes less of lecture. Quizzes and tests are also the hardest problems possible. Don't take
This class as an internet based class is difficult. Unless you have taken calc before I wouldnt really recommend it. Only 4 grades go in the gradebook which are the 4 unit tests. There is hw to build your understanding of the material but not mandatory. Posts videos from youtube for students to understand material. Have the weekend to do tests.
Horrible experience. 4 tests and no final. If you do bad on one test hard to come back. During the pandemic he was not available at all, his tests were nothing like the homework and you would get 5-6 problems so it was impossible if you struggle in math.
This was the hardest class Ive ever taken. In fall 2020, we were graded on 10 quizzes and 4 tests, which are the HARDEST problems you will ever see in your math career. I went to the tutoring center every day. The problems he chose to do in class were the easiest ones in the book. I worked hard to pass, and organic chemistry is easier than this.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever taken for math. I highly encourage everyone not to take him. His class is test heavy and he gives so much homework and they're barely worth any points. Told me at the end of the semester to "switch my majors because this isn't for you". Worst math professor ever, doesn't even encourage his students.
Whole course is graded on 4 tests and if you do bad on one, can't bounce back. Does not offer extra credit and no curve. Rely on outside help if you take this course, he posts guided notes in announcements. I don't know how anyone is supposed to learn math from reading him explain a problem. Also takes off points for every little things on exams.
Seems like a good guy. No lectures, no graded homework, etc. He sends out a note every day telling you what section you're working on, and then you do it in the textbook or try to figure it out on Youtube. Your grade is only based off of four very difficult exams with a couple questions each. You need to meticulously show all your work to get an A.
