A truly great soul who I learned a lot from. Amazing at what he does. Disclaimer: you need to be fairly smart, studious, and open minded to handle this one in its full enjoyment.

He is an amazing teacher. you can tell he loves his job, and he is interested in the students. I wish he was my ENG 1010 teacher. He is funny, and will let the slackers know what is up. I became a better writer because of him.

One of the best if not the best professor I have ever had. The way he explains this is so wonderful You learn it the correct way and remember it forever. Wonderful Class!!!! Great teacher who truly loves his job. He gets to know every student personaly.

Excellent teacher. I enjoyed every minute of his class, and was sad when it came to an end. He was very knowledgable about the English language and did an excellent job conveying that knowledge. My only regret is that there are no other classes that I could take with him.

He is very helpful, and makes class really fun. He taught me a lot in just the first class. He also likes to make lots of jokes.

Prof. Hintze made this class absolutely enjoyable. He had infinite insight to everything that went on in class whether it was related to the material or not. I would highly recommend taking any of his classes.

It would honestly be hard to find a better professor in the whole world. I dont know what he is doing here at community college he should be at a major university, but thank god he is here or I probobly would'nt of had him. He even looked for me in the library one day just to help me. If you dont take him go jump off a cliff. PLEASE take him.

Mr. Hintze is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He actually made English interesting and fun. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about him. He is tough with his grading, but it is for your own good. He is also very helpful. I learned sooo much in his class and am taking his English 1020 this semester. I am already looking forward to it!

Great Class... Learned a lot... Makes the class clear fun and enjoyable. Knows his stuff and makes sure you do to. 6 4page essays and two exams... exams are tough but the class is worth taking.

i love his class.. i didnt even look up to see how he was rated but im glad im in his class.. we do 6 essays throughout the semester which are 7 pages long but we go over the assignment in full detail so everyone understands the story/play/poem.. defiantly take this class, you won't regret it!

I loved Hintze's class!! He is so much fun and defiantly is worth taking. I got a B in his class but you must try. His 2 exams are "trick" tests that are there just to confuse you.. but just try your best.. im taking his 2070 class in the spring!

Mr. Hintze really knows what he's talking about and he explains things until you understand. The one hard part is you have to read really deep into the meaning of stories and poems but after the class you understand it entirely. PS he kinda reminds me of Mr. Woodcock just not as mean.

our actual professor got fired and he took initiative to teach our class for the last couple of days! i could tell he really cared about us. he;s very funny! i could tell he's a little challenging but super interesting! i wish i had his class instead of just having him as a sub.

Great guy who is passionate about English. If you show up, you will understand the subject matter. Also, make sure you follow his format, it is very specific and is necessary to have your work graded.

I had him for two semesters. I'm majoring in English and he was helpful for me, but he is also helpful to those who aren't. He really cares that you succeed and will work with you. Probably my favorite so far. He makes things interesting and does not grade [too] harshly. He's also very funny and I've never had a boring class.

By far my favorite teacher so far at CSM. He gives out a short story/play/poem, you take it home and write a 3 page paper on it and then you turn it in. Rince and repeat, but while actually in class all we do is analyze and interpret literature and it may just be me but that was a LOT of fun. Exams are easy, right off of the handouts he gives you.

THE BEST TEACHER!!! if u hate english or if u love it take him. i hated english until i took his class. He makes it very interesting, and he teaches you the princples of writing. he is very helpful, funny and exciting. you must follow his format or how to turn your papers in but other than dat a GREAT TEACHER!!!

Mr. Hintze is probably one of my favorite teachers at CSM. His expectations are very clear, he's very picky about the format of papers. I learned so much in his class, and would def take him again. He has an excellent sense of humor. You'll learn more in his class then you did throughout school, if you went to school in Charles County:P

Professor Hintze is one of the best English teachers I've ever had! He's clear with what he wants in the essays and he's always willing to help. He has a funny sense of humor and he keeps the class interesting. He opened my mind to a lot more analyzing and interpreting and it helped me understand literature much more. Prof Hintze, is one of my favorite teachers at CSM. He is very clear in what he expects. He pushes you to greatness. He is funny and interesting, so it helped me to want to learn..Not Boring

This is a great teacher and knows how to teach! However, he expects ALOT from his students, and the exams require all memorization (7 paragraphs & 5 quotes to get a C on an exam). Definately challenging, but worth it i thought.

My most thought provoking class at CSM. Instead of solely reviewing poetry for what it means to the reader, he taught us to look at poetry from other view points, creative positions, use of poetic devices, etc. He is an interesting professor who keeps you on your toes. I enjoyed his class. Very challenging, but fun.

Awesome teacher. He is very funny when you understand his jokes. Starts class ontime and attendence is manditory. Teaching is first rate b/c he breaks things down and questions the class in order to hear everyone's ideas. He loves uniqueness so do your best to be over-the-top but with support.

Mr Hintze is the best professor at CSM! He saw a talent in my writing and influenced me into switching my major to english! He always pushed me to do better, and i found myself progressing more and more each class. There are 6 essays and two tests. (midterm and final) Attendance is not mandatory, but this class is too fun to want to miss!

He was an awesome teacher! I normally hate English, but this class was fun. We used the textbook everyday, and the reading material was very interesting. For the 6 essays you write, he gives you a bunch of info to start with. The tests are easy, just study the vocabulary sheets he gives you. It was def a favorite class!

English major, but hated poetry until I took this class. It was an excellent experience. Got an A and learned a lot. Must do student packet (must write own poem) to pass class. Take him, the work is hard at times, but he's a fair grader and will help at any time.

Wonderful professor. He expects a lot, but he is extremely fair and I strongly recommend him. That is, unless you are lazy. His poetry class requires a large amount of memorization and you must write your own poem. Great class.

He keeps you entertained and I loved his energy and passion for his class.

Mr. Hintze is the best professor I have ever worked with. He is certainly not a pushover, but strives to help his students grow. He is very intelligent and a bit quirky as most are. Anyone who loves to learn will be satisfied with the experience.

He taught me more in three months then i ever learned in high school. he transformed my writting and his energy levels are so motivating and entertaining. Wayyy hot too ;)

Great teacher. Pay attention to the syllabus and the due dates. if your late or dont turn something in on WEBCT you get half credit automatically. watch your format to!!

Absolutely my favorite teacher! He's so funny but you have to work hard on the essays he assigns. He tells you exactly how he wants the essays though which was very helpful. There were 2 or 3 tests and if you study you should have no problem.

I adored him. He was so helpful and very clear about what he was teaching. Not hard at all, you just had to show up and listen to what he had to say. Very funny in a werid way. His jokes were just random. I recommend him!

Don't take this class if you're stupid; you'll probably end up dropping it.

I had Mr.Hintze back in 2010 while I was still at CSM. His humor, knowledge and the fact that he was clear and willing to help as much as he could made the class all the more interesting and enjoyable. I'm now at Towson University and I still have a class that has yet to compare. I still miss this class.You're crazy for not taking a class with him!

I started off with a D on my first paper. I was really upset. His class was a challenge to me. Even though his class was really hard, it made me become a better writer. Make sure to take notes and listen to his comments after he hands back the paper. At the end of the semester I received two A+ on my essays. P.S. Participation is a GRADE!

This class is very tough, but I feel that my writing improved a great deal because of this teacher. Though I only got a B, this was my favorite class that semester.

Really hard, prepare to work for it

Mr Hintze is an eye opening teacher who truly loves the world of written imagery. He has taught me so much human insight over the years and how to portray that through the artistry of writing. I love him.

This prof. makes the material being taught crystal clear. Whatever was not understood by either the class or just the individual student, Hinzy would was willing to give one on one instruction which went beyond instructions on just required essays/presentations, but instructions which have helped me as a student throughout my student career.

I had Hintze for three semesters and I absolutely loved his classes. Do you have to work to get and A in the class, yes, but it isso worth it. I loved going to class and I actually liked writing the papers for his classes. I would advise everyone to take Erich Hintze for their english class. He is an amazing teacher and he cares about his students.

My favorite professor! I like another student am now at Towson University, and have not found a professor who can compare. When i attended CSM i took both ENG 1010T & ENG 2070 with Hintze and both were great classes! I learned a lot, and enjoyed his humor! I also strongly appreciated the enthusiasm he had and his readiness to help students.

Great Professor, had him for ENG 1020. He's straight to the point. Mid terms an finals are straight from his notes. Helped me understand a lot more about poetry!

I hated English during high school, but I loved taking it in high school. It is really hard to find great teachers, and Hintze is a great teacher. I have learned so much in his class, and I have become such an amazing student because of him.

Professor Hintze is one of the best if not the best Professor I have had at College of Southern Maryland. The class is very interesting. You write anywhere from 3-5 papers, 3 pages in length, and have a mid term and final. If you complete everything and give your best effort, you will earna good grade. He is willing to help any student at anytime.

Extremely helpful. Clearly knows what he's talking about. Perfect credentials. Can come off as self-righteous at times, but it's clear his ego is down to earth. I would recommend this teacher to anyone.

This professor is one of the best I have had in my entire academic career. He is always available and extremely helpful. Willing to go that extra mile to help you succeed. I loved having him in English 1020 and Eng 2200. English 2200 was scary at first. He eased my mind a lot. Very encouraging. I would take his classes anytime

Interesting and knowledgeable!

Mr. Hintze is a phenomenal professor! This course is challenging but as long as you attend class and take detailed notes during lead discussions and his lecture then you will do fine on the tests! For his tests, write your paper at least 3 times before coming to class to take it! Come up with a code of some sort to remember your lines and line #s.

This professor is basically my academic God. He's done so much for me and has helped me so much. He's a great teacher and just a wonderful person to know for anyone going into the writing field. His class was hard, but more than worth it. He does not hand out grades; you work for them. It's rewarding to get a good grade in any of his classes.

one of the funniest, wittiest, yet incredibly smart professor i've ever had. This class is papers and presentations and if you put effort into them you'll get A's. Pop culture was a great interesting class and really fun to attend!

To be honest, after the first night I was terrified to keep taking this class because of the way the tests are setup. You have to write an essay that is atleast 7 paragraphs with quotes without any notes. Sounds awful, but if you just prepare the way he says you will be fine. He is a great teacher and I would highly recommend taking this class.

I transferred to SMCM and no longer attend CSM, but I had to comment. He's my favorite professor. He helps you understand the text and helps you think outside the box for his papers. Except for the first paper, I got A's, even when I compared love to a toilet. I was a computer science major. He inspired me to be an English major. Thanks Hintze!

Best teacher I have ever had and a remakable individual.

First class I wasn't fond of him (he's very sarcastic). He is 1 of 2 of my favorite professors at csm, and I'm actually sad this semester is ending. Loved his company, he's very open and open to anything a student needs. Take his class!!

Hintze is an excellent professor. His tests are challenging, but he influences personal growth and interest in any subject. His teaching methods are very lively and exciting. You have to be willing to study and attend class though. He is very helpful and meets with students durin office hours to personally go through essays and give advice!

I wish he could teach every class I take from now until forever. He's like Hugh Laurie's character from House, MD — very dry, very sarcastic, and he likes to hear himself talk, but it's never pointless and always entertaining. Take as many classes with him as you can. He'll make you a better writer and a better thinker without you realizing it.

Great professor

This course is just plain fun! You do all the work (writing papers) outside of class, but during class you will laugh your ass off. It is basically like talking to your friends about the latest celebrity gossip, but more fun. I probably would not recommend taking it if you are absolutely terrified of public speaking.

WOULD DEFINITELY TAKE HINTZE AGAIN IF I COULD. My first time at College of Southern Maryland, and my first English class. Coming into this class I had no idea how to write at all, and with him as my teacher I've learned a lot!!! He will sit down, and help you with your essay drafts because he wants you to succeed. I was ready to drop the class after hearing about the tests during the first lecture. His sarcasm made me stay. Absolutely love Prof Hintze. The tests are tough, no doubt, but with some work ethics and work its possible. He made me work hard for my A, but I appreciate it! I wish I could take more classes with him.

Professor Hintze is the BEST English professor I have ever had. His exams are really hard- they are essay questions that you have to memorize in full and write in class- but you can do it. He is very willing to help students in any way possible. Hotness-YES! If you like the mid-forties, confident, intellectual type :)

Professor Hintze is a Great Professor, he helped me to become a better writer. He encourages students to try there best, and always assign different types of essays which was exciting. There are also alot of extra credit oppurtunities, so take advantage. He grades tough, but as long as you follow directions you will improve.

He is such an awesome dude, but such a hard grader. His assignments make you literally go ????? and you have to work so hard for your grade. If you are genuinely super good at English and writing then this will be a lot easier for you. He is super funny but if you want to feel struggle and stress don't take this class

One of the best teachers i had by far

Do NOT take this professor if you expect an easy A, expect a B or C at best. The tests are not hard, BUT they can be if you do not adequately prepare. I cried during my midterm. He is a FANTASTIC professor, and really wants you to pass, but don't take his assignments lightly. He is brutally honest, almost to a fault, but he is a great teacher.

First: Hintze is difficult. His 2 tests require you to write a full essay in 90 minutes with quotes from the reading. However, Hintze's teaching style helps you to understand the weekly reading. Definitely ready to help, but incredibly honest and blunt. It's actually difficult to fail an exam if you fulfill the requirements. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!

Highly recommend. I hated him at the beginning of the class, but by the end I was convinced that he was the best teacher I have had so far. He likes honest humor, but just go with it. He talks tough, but he seems like a really decent person deep down. Definitely a teacher I will remember.

This is my last semester at CSM and so far in my college career this is one of the best classes I have ever taken and it wouldn't be that way if it wasn't for Mr. Hintze. This man really loves poetry and is exceptional at lectures and his knowledge of the subject. Made poetry extremely fun for me and the whole class. He is hilarious and a great guy

Professor Hintze is by far one of my favorite professors of all time, he absolutely loves what he does and wants all of his students to ignite the same passion. Maintain your attendance, this is no easy A, do the readings, amp up your essay skills,he recognizes you trying versus not! He remembers everyone and everything, very encouraging !

Professor Hintze is one of the best teachers you'll ever come across in CSM. Be mindful that his class is not easy. It requires a lot of writing; however, his teachings enables your essay to be sophisticated, coherent, and effective. If you're looking for an easy A, then this is not the class for you. Overall, he teaches life lessons and English.

Mr. Hintze is a great professor. The subject material and exams were tough, but he gave great feedback and had good office hours. He encouraged all his students to visit his office hours or schedule an appointment with him for feedback on what they did right or wrong on a paper. I would 100% take this class again.

Professor Hintze is HANDS DOWN one of the best I've ever come across at CSM. Although I took Pop Culture, I learned a little bit of everything from him. He's REAL, no extra BS. The class is easy, the papers are easy, and he's hilarious. DO NOT be afraid of public speaking in this class - it's a piece of cake. He's very helpful and easy to talk to.

Professor Hintze inspired me to pursue my writing, he really helped me but was also there for other students as well. His tests seem threatening, I was nervous at first, but after the first test your nerves should calm down. Get ready to write for them. I would highly recommend him.

Doesn't really care about the text book much, be prepared to write though. He's a tough grader but is willing to sit down and talk about how to improve. Beware of letting him give you a topic though.

The best teacher you could potentially have for English throughout your college career. I do not have a clue of why he is teaching at CSM he should be a teacher at a 4-year school, to be honest. He is going to challenge you but he is also going to walk you through everything step by step if you follow the instructions you will pass and be proud.

Best professor I ever had

Best professor I've ever had. My only fear is that when I transfer to my four-year institution, the other professors won't be as good.

I was never good at English my whole life, but this professor made English finally enjoyable for me. My essays have improved beyond what I thought I was capable of, and he definitely knows what he is talking about. He is hilarious, and his class makes my day. Great professor!

Would take this professor a thousand times over again. He really loves what he does and makes class enjoyable. All essays are done in class, but there is hardly ever homework. If you enjoy poetry, or simply just need credits, this class is definitely worth taking.

Best professor ever! I wish he could teach all of my classes. Awesome personality. I looked forward to coming to class. He has your best interest in mind and personalizes learning. He is out to teach, but help you lean and truly understand. He will answer any question and never make you feel dumb. Very passionate about what he does.

Amazing professor. Learned new things about myself and my writing that I didnt know existed. Wish I could have him all 4 years in college. Not sure how I got so lucky to have him as a professor but I am very thankful. I am happy the semester is over, but I will admit I am also a little sad. I wish we had more time together to continue my writing.

Okay, if you take poetry with Hintze its going to be challenging. BUT 100% passable because he gives plenty of time and really great feedback on all tests. He is my favorite professor EVER and I wish i was taking another class with him 10/10 guy

Class consisted of presentations about what we read and tests were written essays about things that influenced the writers of the time. He is probably the best professor CSM has to offer, if you are interested in poetry I highly recommend taking this course, it was the most interesting class I have taken at the college. Few assignments and you have to be willing to dedicate time for the exams, great feedback on them once returned. Overall a fantastic professor and hilarious.

Pop culture was very fun with him. He doesnt use the textbook since its outdated to how fast culture works. He encourages class discussion. Grading is clear and the classroom enviroment is very enjoyable

My God does he push you to your full potential. At first, him & the course work may be intimidating, but he is THE BEST CSM has to offer. He makes you work hard for your grade. I often cried trying to do his work lol; however, he helps you so much when you go to him & ask for help. He is incredibly intelligent & genuine. He actually cares about you

Very engaging, funny, and kind. Doesn't want to see you fail and he makes sure you don't waste a second of your time in class learning anything meaningless. You don't even need to use the textbook and he encourages that you don't, either-- he easily teaches you everything you need to know, and he's one of the best teachers that I've ever had. :)

He can be a bit intimidating at first but he has your best interest in mind. Hes also really funny and pop culture is really easy if you know how to write an essay.

Prof. Hintze is a great and engaging person. He is caring, informative, and gives great feedback. Pop culture is a class I would recommend any incoming freshman or sophomore to take. No textbook required, credits are transferrable and it's a very straightforward class. I'd enjoy taking an English class with him if given the chance.

Best teacher ever, he really has helped me with writing which I struggled with all my life. Please just take his class! You wont even want to miss a lecture, hes great educator and hes hilarious. Im only going to say hes tough because the content itself is a little hard but he makes it very easy for students to understand.

Professor Hintze teaches and answers questions until you understand. Everything he said was applied to the three papers we wrote. He also provides content for each assignment you will submit. If you look over the content videos provided before starting the course, nothing will catch you by surprise. Review his feedback and you WILL NOT fail!

You will end the semester with a boatload of knowledge that you did not have before.
