Dr. Mann is a great teacher and is really committed to his students. Plus, he brings so much personal experience to the classroom - he's traveled and lived and taught so many places overseas. I took two classes with him and look forward to his next one.

Lot of work: A Book Review, 40 pgs of textbook reading a night, 15 pgs of second hand reading a night, annoying little projects, mediocre tests. However, if you are somewhat passionate about History its not bad, I got an A! If your a slacker, forget it.

I liked this professor a lot. He was always there to help me...and now I changed my major to history beacuse of him. He is definately someone to take if you are not lazy.

I liked this professor a lot. He makes an effort to do things besides lecturing all the time - which is so often boring in other classes. It is a university level class - and he acts like a real professor...unlike many at Oakton.

Dr. Mann is an excellent teacher although very demanding. Far from an easy A, but you will learn alot. Clear and organized. He is very nice and always willing to help. An asset to oakton, he's the best teacher I've had. I actually look forward to his lectures! Highly recommended!

I am taking Dr. Mann's Modern Africa class. It is really an interesting class with an instructor who has actually lived in Africa and knows virtually everything about it. I took this class because I was interested in the topic and it was better than I expected. I hope he offers more classes on Africa.

I just took Dr. Mann's class on Non-Western Civilizations. It was really interesting. We did a ton of stuff on Iraq, Vietnam, Israel, Africa, North Korea and others. Prof. Mann is one of the few faculty at Oakton who really knows what he is talking about.

If you do your work, it's easy to get an A. Go in for help if you need it. He is very helpful and gives good feedback. He does make you work hard for your grade.

I really liked Dr. Mann's class. I never enjoyed history but he really made it all come alive. I like the fact that he used a course web page for all of the readings, so that everything we used in class is the newest thing out there. I felt sorry for him, since most of the students in class are there only for Gen. Ed. credit.

Wonderful professor, they should all be like him. He is very clear on what he expects of you. Very knowledgeable, and experienced. He is fun and speaks his mind, he is also the head of the History Department. His website informs you of all assignments all the time, you will always know what you need to do. Not alot of work and not hard.

He's a really good teacher, but I'm confused by a lot of the comments left, you DO have to work for your grade, it's not easy, and very demanding. He goes off subject a lot and has lectures on things that aren't on the tests, class isn't mandatory but tests have things on it that he said that may not be in the book.

I really liked this class a lot. After taking it in spring all of the things we learned are now happening in the news. If you want a class with a teacher that is helpful and not only knows the material but is excited to teach about it, then take the class. Make sure you buy all of the required textbooks.

He is the smartest man I know.Very knowledgeable about Vietnam. Theres a TON of reading, but I NEVER read and I'm getting an A No homework [except to read] random "take home quizes" he doesn't beilive in taking time out of class for a quiz. 10 page battle analysis paper and a 3-5 pg book analysis. So far I've learned alot. We watch a lot of movies.

Dr. Mann is one of the smartest, most passionate, and well informed teachers at Oakton or anywhere. In addition, he is a very nice and helpful guy. He teaches an interesting course that is fun and will not bore you. Show up to class, read the material, do the papers, and you will do very well.

BEST HISTORY TEACHER!!! He uses movies to explain a specific event, not boring movies but amazing culture films. His teaching mention is great!! HES FUN, WONDERFUL PROFESSOR! When you need help, he will be GLADLY to help you. I had a B- in his class BUT he rise it up to an A b/c i always attend classes. TAKE HIM!! NO REGRETS!

Dr. Mann is a great professor. This man knows everything about anything when it comes to history. Depending on the classes, he gives a lot of reading and videos to watch for homework. Which was a killer but I passed with over a 90% and was exempt from the final. Do the work and you WILL pass! He will not disappoint you. He's not boring and he teaches by PPT; which is on his website. Also, he travels A LOT so you will hear stories about him in different countries. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Three words: GREAT HISTORY TEACHER. Dr. Mann is a committed and intelligent professor who is not only willing to clarify on anything discussed in class, but makes learning about history both fun and engaging. The course load can be a bit heavy at times, but if you have an interest in or are majoring in history, please take any class he teaches.

This is a great class. I took World Regional Geography before at Oakton and it was the worst class ever. This class is great. Learned so much and it is only the end of week 4! The prof is great and knows what he is talking about, plus his personal insights is what makes what we're studying come alive! I hope I do well by week 16.

Amazing professor and one of the smartest people I've ever met. Very down to earth. He acknowledges your hard work and will reward you for it. You will have to work hard, but it's worth it.

I found this class to be very interesting. Covers a ton of contempoary topic about the world. Really great prof. He actually knows what he is talking about! This id the first class I liked going to after 3 semester s at Oakton.

I had heard that Dr. Mann was good, but he was even better than they say. He is interesting and makes me want to learn. He isn't an easy grade but I don't want a meaningless grade. I want to know I worked and earned what I the grade. Some profs dont' read your papers. He does. He cares about us. More profs should be like Dr. Mann.

I really liked this class. Friends of mine told me to take it and they were really right! What I like is that we look at several parts of the world that I never studied before. Really cool novels too! The lectures are great since the prof speaks from his own experiences in these places! Definitely would take again.

The BEST teacher at Oakton. No comparison. The man is a walking dictionary. Very few assignments, but the assignments require 100% effort and no slacking. Do not even try to BS his assignments, you'll be lucky to get a C because his assignments and tests are made to actually see if you can use what you've learned. No BS involved. Great class tho!

Dr Mann was a joy to have as a teacher. I'm a stem major but I genuinely looked forward to his class and I'm gladI took him. Work hard and show you care and youll do well. Overall awesome guy, loves teaching and fun to listen to!

Easily one of my favorite professors at Oakton. He is incredibly intelligent and very passionate about what he teaches. He really cares about his students. Tests are pretty hard, but if you study enough.. you'll do well. A few reading assignments. First history class that I am doing well in because I thoroughly enjoy the class.

He is considered one of the best teachers at the school. My friends took him, some of them go to different universities but heard of him. He is an amazing teacher. He is not afraid to tell you how it is, and gives you his opinions. In a way he is a little sassy, but in a very good way. Honestly my favorite teacher out of the 4 semesters at Oakton.

Dr Mann is super cool. I asked him once how many languages he speaks and he told me 6. He knows so much stuff about everything, seriously probably one of the smartest guys ive ever met. He assigns a lot of reading, like overkill amount but he just wants us to get it. i never really read anyways and i seem to be doing fine.

Lecture based, kind of hard. HIS isn't my best subject so I worked hard. He knows his subject well-he walks through his lectures so be ready. He's a great prof though, he wants the best for his students so he tried to help. Great man, super interesting. Class is a bit difficult, do the homework and pay attention. Must come to class. Prep for tests!

Dr Mann is the chair of his department and an extraordinary human being. He has a vast knowledge of many different historical subjects. I took his history of non contemporary Western civilizations, it was a lot of reading, but you will walk away with so much knowledge. The class is not easy but as long as you pay attention and participate you're OK

One of the top professors at the school. I was recommended by friends at DePaul to take him and I have no regrets about it. Seems he's known outside of Oakton, as other kids from UIC and Loyola come in for his course. Well earned reputation too. I'm a HIS major and for a 100 course, the content you learn is truly incredible. Please try this course!

I just started this class and was worried. I hated History but this class has been really great so far. The professor explains everything very clearly and this is way better than taking an online course! He is really approachable too.

I am taking this US class and I like that the professor uses visual materials. Not boring lectures. He is really helpful when you need him. I am gonna take him again. Also he doesn't do stupid exams wasting class time. He gives assignments that you can think about and remember class topics better. Really great.

I hated history before but now I really like it. I really enjoyed the class. Anytime you need to see him he is available. I like how we studied so many new things.

I took Prof Mann in Fall 2018. Really a super guy. He really likes what he does and when I needed help he was always there to help me out. A friend of mine told me to take this teacher and it was right.

This is my third class with Dr. Mann. I took him for U.S. part 1 and Contemporary Non-Western. I am now in his Vietnam War class. Super. He really brings it alive. First class we saw some amazing pics he took last year . Really brings History alive. Bunch of my friends are taking his this semester. I still want to be in his Latin America class.

Dr. Mann is everything you should want in a teacher: He knows his subject as deeply as a professor can - completely loves history, loves to teach, wants his students to understand and love the subject. Completely accessible, friendly, energetic, goes the extra mile. You will retain so much and of such high value that you will be thankful!

I always hated History. Names dates places. Boring. I took US History part 1 cause I had too. Really liked it. Take home exams let me really study and do better than in class. He is the first prof that emailed me back when I have a question. I am in the Non-Western class. Very interesting to learn about places outside of the US.

Took Professor Mann's US History class during Fall 2017 and his Non-Western Civilization class during Spring 2018. He is a teacher who cares about his students and wants to help them succeed. If you pay attention during the lectures and documentaries, take home exams and quizzes will be easy. I would definitely recommend Professor Mann's classes.

Everyone I know who has taken his class has gotten an A! All exams are take home and everything is accessible in the book or power points he gives you!

I took this History of Modern Latin America. Really enjoyed the class with this class. I like how he uses films made and in Spanish. I am from Mexico and I hope he does more classes on this. What I really like is how he emails back when you need help.

Professor Mann was very helpful at getting me through HIS 111. I took this course with him again because I did not do so well the first time around. When I took the course with him, I finally was able to see real results towards passing the course. He makes sure that you pass and that you understand the concepts taught in class. Take him!!!

After taking HIS 111, I asked him if he was offering HIS 112 for the summer. Turns out he wasn't but he offered to open up the course just for me. I took this course off campus and got it all done in two weeks. That's if you use your time to your advantage. I learned a lot and as a professor he can help out with anything you need.

My favorite teacher at oakton. Super helpful, extremely caring and all around great. He wants you to succeed and he makes the material interesting. We mostly watched history documentaries in his class. The tests were take home and multiple choice. Truly a wonderful person and teacher. Not power hungry like some other teachers at oakton! Fantastic!

Dr. Mann is incredibly knowledgeable of material in class. Entire grade was based off 5 hundred question take home exams that goes along with the readings. In class we just watched history documentaries.

History 111 with Professor Mann is the prefect class for a freshman looking for a chill class. Don't expect him to like you very much if you don't show up or come to class late. He won't get mad to your face, he'll just become kind of passive aggressive. You have no excuse if you get less than an A. Absolutely no excuse, it's such an easy class.

Show up, watch a history movie and that's class (sometimes will pause the movie to speak for a minute). ALL TEST ARE TAKE HOME, and the only other homework are Maps to fill out.

Take the class if you want an easy A. He gives short map assignments. There are few writing assignments that are only 1 page. Tests are take home. All information can be found in the textbook. You watch documentaries based on textbook material everyday in class. There is no excuse to get anything lower than an A! Dr. Maan is a great prof!

I enjoyed Professor Mann this semester. He's a great guy as long as you stay on his good side (dont show up late!!!!). Classes are pretty easy- but slightly boring because all we did was watch movies, and I'm someone who likes a little bit of a lecture. Exams were all take home and very simple!

Dr. Mann is a great history professor. Show up to class, watch a history movie (documentary) and leave. Basically no homework except for the take-home test(s). Super nice guy. Highly Recommend for a history teacher.

I took a class before with Prof. Mann. Really used to hate class but his is great. He does give take home exams which gives you more time to do the work well. He does lecture and uses documentaries as well. A cool combo that helps me retain course info. I had a class last year that was great too and took another this year.

Professor Mann is one of the best all around professors and I learned so much. Yes there are take home tests but that didn't stop me from learning something every week. This Mann definitely needs a raise for his remarkable teaching and wonderful attitude towards students. Best teacher I've had so far and I don't think anyone can top him. #1

I took the class history of modern china and it was fairly easy, no hw assignments only exams;1 multilple choice exam then 3 papers which was just summaries of the chapters you HAVE to read. 1 criticism though is that he didn't answer my emails towards the end of the semester. But overall easy class.

Made us watch an assortment of documentaries and write papers overviewing them, if you want to learn and remember history, I would not recommend this professor much. But for an easy grade and a basic understanding he is amazing. We had to do 4, ~ to 4-page papers throughout the semester.

Great professor, you get 3 exams, all take home, you do have to buy a History book for the class which is extremely cheap, ALL the answers to the exam are in the book and professor Mann's website tells you exactly which chapters have them, really easy, all you have to do is read. Taking him again next semester, easy A.

This guy is the best history professor in the entirety of this college. Super easy going and makes sure you understand the content fully.

Exams are take home. You have a week or so to complete it. The lecture is just him playing a historical video. I learned a lot and it was an easy class. More Professors should be like him!!

Professor Mann was amazing. I took his history of Modern Latin American class and was so amazing by how clear and easy the class was. You do have to get a textbook because all your homework exam focuses on information from the book. You get 4 homework exams in the enter semester, Thats right only 4! He also very generous grader.

This class is a breeze - just watch videos and complete take-home exams. While not the most engaging, it's an easy A. Unstuck AI was great for exam prep, complementing the textbook well. Recommended if you want a low-effort credit.
