one of the most boring classes and teachers of my life. the tests aren't easy either-she crams alot of info into each one
Professor Simms is a very good professor. Boring at times but knows her stuff and will take the time to make sure anyone understands the material. Her tests are a little hard but she curves them so just do better than all the people that got **** the night before.
*yawn* Dr. Simms might as well record readings from the book and play them during class time. All she really does is stand up there and talk at the class for an hour almost non-stop. She rarely invites questions and never invites discussion. Oh, and beware: She will turn into 'Angry School Marm' if she hears any talking and is especially pisse
Her class is stright forward, and her tests are fair for the most part. Reading the book is definatly needed, she takes questions from it that weren't covered in class. But everything is done on a curve, and if something ends up not being fair, she'll take that into account when grading.
tests are straight from book (minus a few questions), gives extra credit, boring but really easy. go to most of her classes, esp directly before and after a break cuz she gives "hints" to test q's. notes online.
I took her for another class and she was by far more inviting of discussion and paused much more often to ensure clarity. The material for this class was more advanced, and therefore more challenging which also lead to a more interesting class overall. I believe an effort was made to be a more interesting lecturer :) Read & take good notes!
Professor Simms can be very abrasive at times but as long as you can handle that I would definetly take her class. IT is very easy and as long as you read the book and go to some lectures you should be fine. She gives extra credit and curves exams and for the material she was teaching she made it interesting.
Extremely boring lectures- print all your lecture slides off UB learns, sleep in class. Her voice shakes when she's nervous and she generally doesn't make any sense. Drop her class and get another teacher.
She has mastered the art of teaching. Difficult, yet not for the sake of being difficult.
This is such dry material, but she really, really tries to make sense of it all by using great examples. Very friendly and helpful. Exams are extremely reasonable. She really wants you to learn the material!
lectures r fine...exams r reasonable...basically u read the chapters and the notes once and ur good to go....always apply a curve on exams...some ppl can get over 100%....unbelievable...
I took this class as a Gen Ed. The test are relativly easy if you take good notes and read the chapter outlines.
boring, redundant, unorganized. gives really undetailed notes even though it's pretty obvious she's just reading from her own, more-detailed notes. tests are really hard and badly written.
Interesting class for the most part. Yes you have to read the text, but only to understand the main points. Tests are extremely reasonable. Easy A if you do a moderate amount of studying. Go to lecture - it's only 50 minutes and there WILL be questions from lecture that were not in the text!
Great teacher! She puts all of her notes up online but it is only an outline of what she goes over in class. Go to class and she will tell you exactly what you need to read in the book. Tests are fairly simple but you need to study.
Voice is very whiny
the best of the best at UB. She is clear and tells you what you need to know. she is the reson i want to get into this field. her otes are posted and allows you to easy keep up with the class. i have talked to her many times and find her to be very caring and helpful with what every you need. Take all of her classes she is the best you will find.

She is a great professor! Very clear and concise, and is willing to help you if you need it. Overall, she made the class interesting and easy. I highly recommend people to take her
Damn..!! she makes an introductory course really difficult, to deal with.. Exams are difficult u will have to understand the concepts and then apply them in exam questions.. She has a wierd system of grading..she applies a curve..but u the curve may apply to ur grade or not..its all wierd..
Great. Exam are reasonable if you attend class and read the textbook. She made the class interesting and show you video in class which help you rmb concepts. After taking her class, I'm really want to take more psychology class. However, there she does not cover the entire chapter during class due to time constrain, but test on them.
She's not a bad teacher. I didn't even go to class every day and got an A. Read the book and understand basic concepts. Do the online multiple choice, they basically are her test questions. Take her if possible.
she is the most boring teacher ever.. she's horrible and she has a monotone voice, if you need a class to take a nap in.. take this class other than that dont waste your time.
Easy class. She explains everything very clearly. I rarely went to class and still got a B+
Class was very boring because of the poor teaching skills. Just keeps talking and gets pissed when she hears students talking. Tests are hard, go to class and read the text... then study!
In order to get a passing grade in this class, I needed to go to every class, take excellent notes, read the book, take additional notes from the book, and I still only got a C+. Class sounded interesting, I was wrong. horrible teaching style, when class avg was vry low, blamed it on students study habits instead of looking @ her teaching skills
Clear though a bit annoying, EASY tests, all multiple choice. If you go to about half of the lectures you should do fine. Never read the book and ended up with an A-
Don't let others fool you, if you go to class this class is easy and a real good time. Review sessions are your best friend.
Terrible teacher, goes over everything quick. Terrible grader, especially on the paper. Grades as if you are majoring in the subject rather than just taking it as a requirement to get into ur fields school. Dont recommend

Despite material that seems to be easy, this class is hard! She told us that she wouldn't make exams tricky but the questions always seem to have more than one answer. It also doesn't help that her voice is extremely annoying.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER! One of the worst Prof. I ever had! Her voice is annoying, test are very difficult, she'll make you hate the subject! Please dont do it to yourself!
I really like Proff Simms. Sure her voice is a little annoying, but her tests are not too hard and she offers extra credit at the end of the semester. There is a very short paper due (very do-able). She is really not as bad as people say.
This class is beyond difficult. All the material seems quite easy and anyone with a pulse can pass until you take the exam. She grades like your life depended on passing only her class. I repeat TAKING THIS CLASS IS DETRIMENTAL TO YOUR GPA, DROP WHILE U HAVE DA CHANCE!!!!
She was definitely a pretty easy teacher. She basically gave you almost everything that was going to be on the tests. You just had to skim through the chapters and look at the stuff she didn't go over in class. If you can't do well in this class it's because you clearly did not go to class or pay attention at all.
Her voice can be annoying at times but overall her class is pretty easy. She puts her lecture notes online but you kinda need to go to class or you'll be lost. Book is pretty interesting, not as boring as other textbooks. Gives out extra credit - up to 7 points after curve on your final average - and there's a paper but its not hard at all.
I found this material (text and lectures) very boring. The only grades you get for the class are from 3 tests and one paper. The tests are reasonable. Definitely read the book to do well in this class. I probably wouldn't recommend this class.
I would definitely recommend this class. Grade is based on 3 tests and 1 short paper. She also offers an easy extra credit assignment that can add 7 extra points on to your final grade after the curve. If you go to class and read the book, you should have no problem getting an A.

Oh my God she has the most annoying voice I have ever heard. All she ever does is give overkilled examples and basically reads from the slides. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO GO TO CLASS. Just read the book. I would never in a million year recommend this class to anyone
I don't know where to start. This class is totally different than what it sounds like( Assessing Individual Differences)Mrs. Simms is add in a way. Exams are very difficult. Definitely not easy get an A in this class. I sure didn't like her either!
She'll laugh at her own jokes when whole class just stairs at her. Avoid taking any course with her. I gave my 100% to this class and I'm bly getting an B
Horrible teacher, tests are toughh, don't recommend having as a professor
I have never been in a more slow moving, painfully boring class and I believe the only reason for this is Mrs. Simms. She has no student-instructor relationship. Her exams are out of this world. I gave my 100% to her exams and maximum I can make it 35 out of 45! and seems like all of my class makes agreeing w/ me about her.
She is in bad moods almost all the time.
she has a high pitch voice. spreads through the room, can't understand her. i think she is pretty much easier than gabriel. ive seen the notes and it had way much more material than simms. she has something like a curve on all exams. 4 exams and a paper. no final.
I thought it was just me falling behind in the class and not reading the book, but then I found out EVERYONE else had a terrible average in her class. I would not recommend this teacher to ANYONE, ever.
Her tests are really hard. You have to go to class everyday, read the material in the textbook, and understand her in lecture... It's not just me that thinks she is ridiculously hard with grading. She gives 40 questions on exams (somewhere around there), multiple choice or in my case multiple guess... You have to be really committed to the class
boring classes. extremely slow moving. actually dont have to go to class or understand the book that much. there is an online companion site that goes along wiht the book that gives you flash cards and 75% of her exam is on those flashcards.though easy to get a C in her class its really tough to get an A
I think the things that people are saying are ridiculous. Her class was so easy, I got a super A and I never went to lecture. She specifically says in lecture to read the book and the only people with anything bad to say are the ones who didn't. So seriously, anyone that complains about Professor Simms is really just bitter over their own mistakes.
I got a super A in the class it was really easy if you read the book and followed her lectures. I would have to say though she is one of the worst teachers I have had. You learn nothing new that you wouldn't get from a Psy 101 or abnormal class. She is also EXTREMELY RUDE and not willing to work with you on everything. I would AVOID her!
Her voice is very annoying. Enough said
the exams are ridiculously hard, even I gave my best effort. Avoid to take her unless you think you are GPA is too high
She does not know anything about the actual subject from herself. Her lectures are taken DIRECTLY from the book, so just take notes on the readings and you'll get an A - what I did. Other than that, asking her a question is completely useless because she doesn't know the answer and she'll just string a bunch of words together and call it an answer.
Nice professor
Great teacher, read the book, go to lecture you'll do well. Some say her voice is annoying, it can get there but I've had worse. Tests seem hard but she curves them well so as long as you know what's going on you're fine.
Really good teacher. Fun class. Gives lots of examples. 4 tests and a paper. READ THE BOOK. use MyPsychLab for notecards and quizzes. voice is not as annoying as everyone says. very interesting, gives extra credit and applies a nice curve to the tests. READ THE BOOK AND YOU WILL GET AN A!
Not an Awful teacher but soooo moody. The test are designed to give everyone a B
Hmmmm Don't go to class. JUST read your textbook and review. You will get A. The tests are 4 exams and 40 questions and you can get extra credits through online test(easy). Not fun, not interesting, but you can get A if you study the "text book."
The only con about this class is that tests are on everything in the textbook, even stuff she never went over in class. I don't find her to have an annoying voice at all, she gives good and funny examples to help you understand concepts. When I study for her tests I don't use the notes at all and still have an A- average.
she was a really great teacher and i really enjoyed her class. i would recommend her to anyone looking to take a psychology class
Her lectures are pointless. All you need to do is read the textbook. Her exams are really hard and she's pretty anal when it comes to grading papers. I wouldn't recommend her.
I am interested in psych tests but the way she teaches this class is not for people who are interested in giving and scoring psych tests but for people who want to do research and CREATE a psych test. There is alot of stats and inquiry stuff and tests are difficult and she expects perfection in her grading. CURVE ISN'T FAIR except to top 10% of clas
All you have to do is show up to class and do the online quizzes. She is fair in her grading and the test are not that hard. I usually only flip through the notes the day before the exam and get an A. Simms is really clear. I would recommended her to anyone. If you can take PSY 101 with her its definitely an easy A.
She is a nice prof. but notes and lectures are practically irrelevant to the topic of personality. Tests are difficult and tricky, study the notes, read the book and you still may not pass the exam. Once again she's nice and willing to help, but the exams and grading is definitely tough.
Decent teacher. Her TA's were helpful for questions. Paper assignment and 4 tests but no midterm. Go to class, and you'll do fine.
I am international student and I can say it is really hard. You have to always read textbook. The most important thing. Also you need to read your notes. Check the slides too. You have to write 1 paper (2-3 pages) and 4 exams (includes 40 questions). Exams are really hard. She always keeps repeating the same stuff in lectured. If you pay attention
Such an easy class, don't waste your time going to class it isn't necessary, just read the book. There are only four test and she gives you extra credit, and one paper that is super easy. Like i said don't bother going class because she likes to waste her time telling you to be quiet, just read the book and you'll get an a
Very easy class, but she's annoying. draws most of the (4) tests material from the book, so you need to read. however, she offers insane extra credit (10-15% per test) so it balances out. one written assignment is easy (3-4 pages). no attendance, so don't worry too much about going if you are a keen reader. TA's are qualified but don't do too much.
I thought Simms was an interesting professor. She gets excited about personality and plays video clips to relate and understand the topics. Her powerpoints are directly what's in the book so it's not bad. You just have to read the book when taking the online quizzes, but just getting an 85 or above gets you the point you need.
teaches from start till end, talks every minute of the lecture... test questions are tricky and the book is very very dry to read... quiz questions are hard, worst class ever...do not take will ruin your semester
She bases everything out of the book. There are 6 quizzes online throughout the semester, which helps you learn more than her actually lectures. I went and couldn't stand sitting there for more then a hour. She takes 15 slides and prolongs them to no end. Even though she tries to explain everything, she overdoes it. Plus her voice agitated me.
The information you learn in the class is really interesting, but if you don't attend the lecture and read the book, you're screwed on the tests. All she does is talk during lectures and you have to make sure you write down everything she says.
she was an awful teacher. i learned absolutely nothing by going to lecture. also her voice is very annoying and will get on your nerves. the book is what the tests are based on so read all the chapters!! also do all the extra credit online quizzes they will help you!
She is not a good teacher. Mostly everything on the test is based on reading the book and not on the material covered in class. However, she does offer a lot of extra credit which is very helpful. Overall, i would try to get a different psych teacher.
tests are all based on the book, it's worth reading to do well on the tests. she helps clarify what the book says
Not a bad teacher - just too repetitious! She literally says the same idea over and over and over again, sometimes to the point where she confuses the students who had it from the beginning! Online quizzes are fairly easy if you use the textbook and notes from lecture. The tests aren't easy, but if you show up and do the quizzes you're golden.
It was very hard to stay focused in Dr. Simms class. There is little that goes on in her lectures that is interesting. My advice is to take the practice tests in the textbook that appear at the end of a relevant chapter. 50% of the questions on her tests are almost exact copies from those practice tests.
Class is a little bit boring. She teaches the material from the textbook, so if you want an A, read the textbook.
She makes the most interesting topics boring. Without the curve this class is hard. With the curve its do-able.
In order to get a good grade in this class, you HAVE to read the book word for word. I started the semester thinking if I just went to every lecture and then skimmed the chapters, I'd be fine. Not true. After a not-so-great grade on the first exam, I decided to read through each chapter for the next exam and got a much better grade because of it.
Get the book, read the book, become one with the book...because in her class the book is the ONLY thing you will need her lectures are irrelevant
If you plan to slack off or looking for an easy A, don't take this class. Professor Simms is great and extremely helpful. Yeah, you're gonna have to read the textbook if you want an A, but it's honestly not that bad. It's helpful to attend all her lectures as well cause she explains things in a lot of detail. I'd recommend this class to anyone.
Erika was great. She teaches by the book which I usually hate but the book she picked is an easy read and actually very interesting. The tests are on both the class and book material so be sure to show up or at least ask someone for the notes. It's the TAs that know ABSOLUTELY nothing
Very interesting and funny professor. You have to read the book to get good grades on the exams. Prof. Simms is very helpful - she will answer questions during lectures and do a lot to help you understand if you are confused.
She is knowledgable and helpful however I did not find the class interesting and felt the material was very similar to other classes. She taught pretty much directly from the book. Not much to say.
Dr. Simms is a great professor! Her exams are a bit challenging, but if you study you will do well. The exams are mainly based on lecture, but be sure to read the book because she will ask a few questions that can only be answered if you read the book. She's very friendly and willing to answer any questions.
You rely heavily on the book in this course. If you do not read the book you will not pass this course because she relates to the book a lot. Her slides are useless and she doesn't explain things well. Read the book and go to class and you will be fine.
She is a great professor but most of the information on the exam is from the book so read the book
You must read the book and study it to do well. You could definitely do well without going to class. I am not a fan of her lecturing style. She likes to glance at notes and then speak around a topic for a while, and many times she spends way way too much time speaking about a simple topic. If you take the class, just study hard on your own time.
She's ok. She likes what she teaches, however, its all about the book! Tests are multiple choice about specifics from the book. Must read it to get a good grade!
She knows her stuff but her test are VERY HARD. She makes the material seem so easy in class but the exams are really based on the TEXTBOOK and teaching yourself. 17 one Quizzes, 3 exams and 1 extra credit opportunity. Huge curve as well. I wouldn't recommend if you need an easy Psy class to take.
Don't go to class because nothing she talks in circles about for 2 hours is going to be on the test. TEXT BOOK ALL YOU NEED BUT STILL REALLY HARD TESTS. she should just make this class online and stop waisting everyones time. Do not take this class if your looking for a good interesting psy elective all it did was ruin my gpa.
This class is super easy if and only if you read the textbook inside out! She gives extra credits for chapter exams on every test. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Her text might be a bit challenging but she is a very fair grader. I actually get over 100 average!
Possibly the worst experience since I started college. This class is really confusing and grading system does not allow any curve just a heads up if you are looking for bad grads,
Pretty easy class, can be a little all over the place given its 101 and the class by nature examines many topics. As long as you use the online text book and take the practice quizzes to study you'll get no less than a B.
She is pretty boring and difficult to listen to. She repeats herself a lot and sounds really nervous while speaking. Its not reassuring when your teacher is not confident in what she is talking about. The book is pretty interesting but you do need to go to class sometimes because there are a few topics covered in class but not in the text.
Took this class because I figured it would be interesting. Wrong. hard to pay attention in lectures. Everything done from book which is essential to complete online quizzes and tests. Tests are extremely difficult, no matter how much reading and studying I did, could not get higher than a 70. just do not take this class unless u want a C.
This class is definitely a class that requires plenty of attention and outside work. Lectures are not very interesting. I had a hard time figuring out what to study because there was so much information given to us and only 50 MC questions.
I liked this professor, I found her lectures very interesting and she presented the material in away that helped me learn it faster by providing examples that you can relate to.
I enjoyed the class and found Dr. Simms enjoys the material and cares about students earning a good grade and understanding the material. If you go to class, and read the textbook you can succeed in her class. The tests can be tough but she gives extra credit.
The class in and of itself is interesting, and Dr Simms (now Nus) is a good teacher. She knows what she's talking about. The exams, however, are INSANE. Read, read, read your book - the questions are vague and straight from the obscure parts of the text. Not much from lecture makes it onto the exams. Good professor and interesting class, though.
She does not press you to read the book, but you should. A lot of test question are from her presentations and some are from the book. If you have not read the book you most likely will not know the answers. Lectures are interesting and easy to understand. My advice study hard, read the book and you will do great.
She obviously has passion for this material, and that's something I appreciate. The lectures are long, and you definitely should read your textbook. Much of the information from the quizzes is repeated on exams, but attending lecture is necessary (full notes not posted online) and reading the book is a must for quizzes. Good class; would repeat.
She is a good professor, but you definitely have to work for and A. If you go to class, take solid notes, and read the book, you will have no problem. The exams are tough, but everything on them she has discussed in class. She is a cohesive lecturer, and is very passionate about the material. I would definitely recommend, but be ready to work.
She gives your the lecture notes, you just need to add your own notes as she teaches. There's about 3 main tests and they are mostly about lectures. There are a few questions on the book but even if you don't read, you'll be fine.
